Danganronpa Rebirth - Voice Actor Headcanons.

So here’s the latest update of this little series on my blog where I assign official voice actors to characters that don’t have them. Today we’re doing another Fanganronpa, Danganronpa Rebirth.

Now as per usual, I need to point out a few things.

This is NOT CANON. These are HEADCANONS and are unofficial. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.

I am aware of RebirthVoices being a thing, and this post is not to besmirch them or their work or effort. This is just a hypothetical cast that Chunsoft would probably hire assuming Rebirth was actually a canon game in the series.

I did the same thing with other fangans in the past, SDRA2 and Blowback. Check those out if you’re interested.

This series ended up becoming a lot more popular than I initially thought, so I’m just gonna keep up the apparent good work. So without further ado, I hope you enjoy my ideas. Or don’t. Your choice.

David and Kaede are both the protagonists. David is the primary one, and he is usually seen with the personality of Pre-Chapter 2 David. Kaede is the secondary protag that occasionally takes over throughout the story when David is unable to.

there is no set antagonist or “support” character, since, I think those roles are versatile

I know rebirth is really, really dead, but I wanted to talk about this for a while.

A lot of autistic people, myself included, say that a lot of the times, some of the best/most relatable autistic representation is unintentional, and one of the first characters that comes to mind when I think “unintentionally autistic characters” is Saiji. I know the team came out and said that Mikoto was actually canonically intended to be autistic, and I don’t necessarily think she’s bad representation or even completely unrealistic representation (in fact, I loved seeing hyperacusis specifically represented in something I love) but to me, Saiji just felt like more obvious representation. 

Autism is something that affects a lot of things, but the primary effect of it has to do with the way we socialize with others. People on the spectrum do not have a lot of the same innate awareness of social cues or mannerisms that allistic people do, so a lot of interaction can be either attempts at mimicking observed behaviors or complete blind guesses. Some people aren’t really aware that they can’t pick up on things, but others, especially those who were considered “high functioning,” are acutely aware of it and just don’t know what exactly they’re not understanding. 

Now, going back to Saiji, a lot of his interactions with others very explicitly show what I just described. He makes it clear at multiple points that he isn’t really sure how to approach others or hold a conversation. He has also expressed worry in not just the fact that he might end up going on a tangent about his talent, but how others would perceive him based on it, which could be interpreted as not only implying he has a special interest (another symptom of autism) but also reinforcing the idea that he is hyperaware of his own neurodivergence and the way if affects his interactions. There were also some smaller things like his very formal speech patterns, which can be associated with high functioning autism as well (note: a good chunk of the cast shares this specific trait, but in the case of Saiji, it can be noted when piecing together the whole picture).

I know a lot of these things were explained by staff as him not really having any friends growing up, but considering that too is super common, I really just can’t help but relate to him from a neurodivergent perspective. I think a lot of writers end up writing autistic characters unintentionally for many reasons. It’s a whole spectrum that can present itself in many ways, a lot of the times more subtly than most people would assume because of something called masking (i.e, that whole mimicry bit I was talking about at the beginning, though not everybody can mask and those who do often deal with high levels of stress because of it). Many allistic people will interact with people who will show some level of symptoms, but wont necessarily be aware that those people are autistic and will write characters with traits they’ve witnessed. Many autistic people will write characters based on their own experiences and not realize that their perspectives on things may be different to those of allistic people, thus creating unintentional representation that way. Hell, even autistic people may even interact with other autistic people who have different symptoms from them and unintentionally write characters with those traits because it is such a broad condition.

Anyways, this was a whole fucking tangent, but it’s just something that’s been on my mind for a while, especially because it means so much to me. I just hope this is comprehensible T-T

Anonymous asked: are you guys able to take requests for any fanganronpa with sprites? if so, can i request some matching yukari koime (danganronpa blowback) and saiji rokudo (dr:rb) icons, 500x500, square, with themes of fairy kei and pastel colours, and maybe even the small heart eyes you use for lovecore requests? if you can't do the yukari icons, then just the saiji ones are alright!

I was and I still am very sad about this but we must remember that the team worked hard on this series. This project inspired many other to come and I'm glad I was able to discover Danganronpa Rebirth Voices.
