Is there anything else you dislike Danganronpa Rebirth? Mastermind, Characters, Writing, or the vague themes in it?

Oh believe me Ayumu is just the tip of things I am not a fan of with Rebirth, to the point I'm kinda glad it got cancelled.

Masterminds is a big one as Akira is a very boring generic "I am a Junko Kinnie" villians, this is what I hate about Junko Enoshima. The fact 80% of Fanganronpa masterminds have to be inspired by her to do their evil and not for their own reasons. Its like booo get better material.

And Akira is the mastermind in both verisons, the Japanese verison is slightly better as his motive is he hates Ultimates who don't want to be Ultimates anymore. But the English one is even worse since he's just a lol Despair guy.

Narumi is even worse. In the Japanese version she was just a normal survivor and nothing wrong with the character there. But in the English version...well she is a classic case of, "oppressed minorities behave like terrorists to protest against their oppression and then act surprised when people hate them" This is a very problematic trope and one with many unfortunate impliciations. It didn't work in RWBY and it won't work here.

So we have one boring mastermind and one problematic mastermind which brings up very uncomfortable themes. The fact Narumi is the brown skinned character of the cast does not make this any better.

There are some characters I question being there as Kasumi Izumo is a character who really shouldn't be in a Killing Game as she's the Ultimate Spirit Medium. When you can channel the dead and not only give them a chance to say final words to the cast but also reveal the culprit and oh yes she does do this, it kinda ruins the impact of some of the deaths. I think this is the reason why Komaru Naegi wouldn't really work in a traditional Killing Game as she can just channel the victim and they say "X did it". Of course you could go the Spirits of Justice route where the vision of the victim isn't a absolute and even the dead can get things wrong but it still cheapens the impact of the whole thing.

The writing as a whole both Japanese and English is full of holes and isn't really planned out well. The Japanese one I can excuse because the whole thing was meant to be a April Fools joke that got way out of hand, but the English one has zero excuses for that and while they clean up the blatant transphobia, it does leave massive holes elsewhere and in a sense it being cancelled was a blessing.

As for the themes the idea in the Japanese verison of there being a program where Ultimates can get their talents removed is a interesting idea given how Talent-focused the Danganronpa world is, so for people to want to embrace normalness is a good idea but lol no we get a Killing Game so that idea is bust. And the English verison does away with that and comes up with a even worse idea about having a false flag Killing Game to make people feel bad for Ultimates but it was set up for Ultimates and you can see why this isn't very thought through.

Long story short; Rebirth was a complete mess of a story, and you can see why both versions got cancelled as no matter if its the Japanese or the English verison both have their fair share of issues.

Its still better then The Mistake but that's not difficult.
