Just because someone says they are anti-imperialism and colonisation and oppression doesn't mean they actually are
on the side of the people. The coups in French Africa have all been proclaimed anti-France the coloniser, but don't be fooled- they were all a military workings from the inside, security forces wanting a bigger cut from all the stealing and massive corruption. They just want to frame it in a way that their citizens will accept. If any of you think that it is in any way, shape, or form a government finally caring for its own population while resisting the evil European overlords you really need to read more about African politics and touch grass because that level of naivety can be dangerous.

Peace Talks: Niger 🇳🇪 Junta, ECOWAS & Niger 🇳🇪 President Are Haggling To Save Face
After a war of words was issued between opposing sides, it is excellent news that the Economic Community Of West African States (also known as ECOWAS) was finally able to meet with the Niger 🇳🇪 Junta & Niger 🇳🇪 President to seek out a diplomatic solution that avoids a regional proxy war.
ABUJA/NIAMEY, Aug 19 (Reuters) - A delegation from West Africa's main regional bloc ECOWAS on Saturday met Niger's ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and held talks with junta leader General Abdourahmane Tiani in the capital Niamey, a Nigerian presidential spokesperson said.
The West African group is pursuing diplomatic ways to reverse the July 26 coup. The coup leaders' acceptance of the mission could signal a new willingness to negotiate after the bloc on Friday doubled-down on its threat to use force as a last resort to restore democracy. It said an undisclosed "D-Day" had been agreed for possible military intervention. […]
In the meantime, Tiani said the junta was pursuing its own agenda and would launch a national dialogue to consult on a transition back to democracy, which "should last no longer than three years."
Both sides want a resolution to this crisis, as time is not on either side. ECOWAS wants to discourage further coups in the region & avoid a war that would extend to Mali 🇲🇱 & Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 (which would only benefit agents of chaos like terrorists & crime lords).
Junta leaders in Niger 🇳🇪 (as well as Mali 🇲🇱 & Burkina Faso 🇧🇫) desire an end to economic & military sanctions which ultimately hurt citizens & strengthen the hands of terrorists (the latter who is sadly winning throughout this crisis).
Despite the threats of war, it is unlikely that ECOWAS will invade Niger 🇳🇪 after the Senate in Nigeria 🇳🇬 rejected using military force against their neighbor.
What will probably happen is that Niger 🇳🇪 will announce a return to democracy timetable, which will be mimicked by Mali 🇲🇱 & Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 later on. ECOWAS, in return, will ease up on sanctions, & (alongside the United States 🇺🇸 & Russia 🇷🇺) provide military assistance in striking terrorist targets in the regions.
If peace talks fail, we will witness Mali 🇲🇱, Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 & Niger 🇳🇪 descend into chaos as terrorist groups like Islamic State & Al Qaeda affiliates conquer vast swaths of territory, turning the region into a never-ending war zone.

Major Security Concerns As Jihadi Fighters from Africa’s Sahel Begin Settling in Nigeria - Reports

This migration, they say, followed a trend of militants seeking refuge in wealthier West African coastal nations. Reports say that the situation poses significant security challenges and raises more concerns…

EU programme to restrain migrants risks galvanising Sahel jihadists
Migration levels in the Mediterranean are rising, provoking a barrage of criticism in European countries. Abandoned people at sea, overcrowded detention centres, outsourcing to North African partners and ignoring human rights violations are the result of political and humanitarian decisions by the European Union, according to EUobserver.
EU influence in the Sahara region is waning as post-coup governments consolidate power, driving out Western partners and clearing the way for territorial expansion by jihadist groups.
The vast majority of migrants travelling to the Mediterranean Sea, unable to emigrate legally, face a perilous journey. These predominantly young people, who perceive migration as the only possible way to enter adulthood, cross one of the most unstable regions of the world.

France just suspended student visas for three countries in the Sahel because of sEcUrItY rEaSoNs, because clearly an eighteen year old trying to study plant science is actually a terrorist trying to bring about the creation of Greater Burkina Faso. Totally not retaliation for circumstances out of these students' control and designed to further destabilize the region :)

Gum arabic, a vital ingredient used in everything from Coca-Cola to M&M’s sweets, is increasingly being trafficked from rebel-held areas of war-torn Sudan, traders and industry sources say, complicating Western companies’ efforts to insulate their supply chains from the conflict.
Sudan produces around 80 per cent of the world’s gum arabic, a natural substance harvested from acacia trees that’s used widely to mix, stabilise and thicken ingredients in mass-market products including L’Oreal lipsticks and Nestle pet food.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), at war since April 2023 with Sudan’s army, seized control late last year of the main gum-harvesting regions of Kordofan and Darfur in western Sudan. Since then the raw product, which can only be marketed by Sudanese traders in return for a fee to the RSF, is making its way to Sudan’s neighbours without proper certification, according to conversations with eight producers and buyers who are directly involved in gum arabic trading or based in Sudan. The gum is also exported through informal border markets, two traders told Reuters.
Asked for comment, an RSF representative said that the militia had protected the gum arabic trade and only collected small fees.[...]
In recent months, traders in countries with lower gum arabic production than Sudan, such as Chad and Senegal, or which barely exported it before the war, like Egypt and South Sudan, have begun to offer the commodity aggressively at cheap prices and without proof that it is conflict-free, two buyers who have been approached by traders told Reuters. While the acacia trees that yield gum arabic grow across Africa’s arid Sahel region — known as the “gum belt” — Sudan has become by far the world’s biggest exporter due to its extensive groves.[...]
Before the Sudanese civil war, the raw gum would be sorted in Khartoum and then trucked to Port Sudan, on the Red Sea, to be shipped via the Suez Canal around the world. Since late last year, however, RSF-affiliated gum arabic started to appear on sale at two informal markets on the border between the Sudanese province of West Kordofan and South Sudan, according to a buyer based in an RSF-controlled area, who declined to be named due to safety concerns.
The buyer, a major trader in the West Kordofan area, said that traders collect gum from Sudanese land owners and sell them to South Sudanese traders in these markets for US dollars.
