Alia Bhatt enchants in Sabyasachi custom-made Saree at MET Gala 2024.
This marked Alia Bhatt's second appearance at the highly anticipated fashion event, making her one of the select few Indian celebrities to grace the prestigious gala.
Tumblr media
This year, Bhatt took the opportunity to showcase the exquisite artistry of Indian fashion, stepping out in a breathtaking creation by renowned designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She described it as "A call to the Garden of Time," an ode to artistic expression and the enduring nature of beauty. She emphasized the power of time and meticulous craftsmanship, highlighting how creations made with dedication can transcend fleeting trends. She recognized the Saree as the perfect embodiment of tradition and innovation, and in the skilled hands of Sabyasachi, this vision blossomed into a masterpiece. Creating this masterpiece was no small feat. It took 1965-man hours & 163 people to create this ethereal look.
The 2024 Met Gala theme, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," served as a springboard for creative interpretations. The official dress code, "The Garden of Time," drew inspiration from a 1962 story, hinting at a floral and botanical extravaganza on the red carpet.

Looks at the world of Indian fashion, exploring the work of such designers as Fightercock, Kavita Bharthia, and Gayatri Khanna and discusses the innovative techniques being used for textiles, sculptural draping, and pattern cutting.
Indian haute couture is conquering catwalks worldwide. For many, Indian fashion conjures multi-colored saris and gold embroidery, but the designers featured in this volume are turning that cliché on its head by creating global styles without losing sight of tradition. This book documents the scene, with an in-depth look at designers as diverse as Fightercock (a collaboration between Abhishek Gupta and Nandita Basu, who claim on one of their t-shirts that "The Revolution must wear Fightercock"), AtpuG varuaG (who won Breakthrough Designer of the Year at the MTV and Zoom Style Awards in 2006) and Kavita Bharthia (who is known for both Indian and Western styles, impeccably finished on handlooms, which incorporate cottons and silks, scarves, stoles and knits). Other featured designers include Gayatri Khanna, Anamika Khanna, Small Shop, Anuj Sharma, Ashish N Soni, Ayesha Depala, CUE, Deepika Govind, Drashta Sarvaiya, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Manish Arora, Nachiket Barve, Namrata Joshipura, Nimita Rathod, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Prashant Verma, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ranna Gill, My Village, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Savio Jon, Shantanu & Nikhil, Shantanu Goenka, Swapnil Shinde, Varun Bahl, Wendell Rodricks and Bounipun. Contemporary Indian Fashion offers a host of experimental techniques for textiles, pattern cutting and sculptural draping, as well as the mixing of natural and synthetic fibers and unlikely juxtapositions such as jersey or chiffon with leather.

Also some of the fcs you suggested for my cool biker are great, I personally would probably use Medalion Rahimi, but do you think it’d be okay to use an Iranian fc all of sudden when the rest of the muses are consistently Indian? Sorry for being difficult, I’m just trying not to offend anyone 😅 I’m doing my best to do the right thing lol though I suppose she’d be generations later than the rest so it doesn’t *necessarily* matter
Hello! It’s me again with that lineage ask you answered! You have actually helped me out tremendously! I’m getting back to you like you asked. See the idea is that all the characters are all part of the same lineage, so when I was asking about Avan Jogia I was mostly asking if he would be a conceivable fit within that lineage. Sorry for not making that whole thing clear. Make no mistake you helped me out a bunch! My angrier gruff character will now be played by hrithik roshan, an absolutely perfect fc for the character *and* there’s plenty of gif hints for him! Between him and ram charan my muses are looking pretty handsome!
Oh, that's my bad I'm so sorry! I assumed since you didn't say Indian it was for a separate bloodline / muse but here are some Indian suggestions for the biker girl! Those matching Hrithik's bloodline (Punjabi and Bengali but sadly I couldn't find people of both) but also including people I don't know the specifics of:
Rola (1990) Bengali / Japanese, Russian.
Himanshi Khurana (1991) Punjabi.
Koushani Mukherjee (1992) Bengali.
Tuhina Das (1992) Bengali.
Navneet Kaur Dhillon (1992) Punjabi.
Wamiqa Gabbi (1993) Punjabi.
Swastika Dutta (1994) Indian.
Sauraseni Maitra (1996) Bengali.
Janhvi Kapoor (1997) Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Tanu Grewal (2001) Punjabi.
Ishaa Saha (?) Bengali.
Supriya Ganesh (?) Indian - Instagram links to a charity which helps Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan!
And then Avan Jogia muse, again Punjabi and Bengali but sadly I couldn't find people of both, also including people I don't know the specifics of:
Sabyasachi Chowdhury (1989) Punjabi.
Suhail Nayyar (1989) Punjabi.
Nikhil Parmar (1990) Indian.
Parmish Verma (1990) Punjabi.
Aashim Gulati (1990) possibly Punjabi.
Neel Bhattacharya (1990) Punjabi.
Singga (1992) Punjabi.
Sam Otto (1992) Indian.
Kapil Talwalkar (1993) Indian.
Sayak Chakraborty (1994) Punjabi.
Anirudh Pisharody (1994/5) Indian.
Archie Renaux (1997) Indian and White.
Rish Shah (1997) Indian.
Riddhi Sen (1998) Bengali.
Jayden Revri (1999) Indian, Jamaican, English.
Hope this helps you! Again, so sorry!

East Meets West: Bridging Fashion from Burberry to Sabyasachi and Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika
This case about Burberry made me think of Indian fashion and the axis of traditionality/heritage to modernity. It’s fascinating to see how global brands like Burberry parallel or diverge from Indian counterparts like Sabyasachi and Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika, especially in their approach to blending heritage with modern trends.
Burberry's Timeless Elegance Burberry, with its quintessentially British roots, stands as a pillar of luxury and tradition. Famous for its classic trench coats and the iconic check pattern, the brand merges historical elements with modern needs seamlessly. Under leaderships like Angela Ahrendts', Burberry expanded its reach while keeping a tight grip on its classic British heritage, ensuring that each piece tells a story of timeless elegance.
Sabyasachi's Regal Craftsmanship Crossing over to India, Sabyasachi is a brand that echoes similar sentiments but in a decidedly Indian context. Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the founder, emphasizes the grandeur of India’s artisan traditions. His designs are a homage to the past—lush fabrics, intricate embroideries, and vibrant palettes that speak volumes of India’s rich textile legacy. Much like Burberry, Sabyasachi caters to an elite clientele, offering pieces that combine the old-world charm with contemporary silhouettes.
Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika's Bold Modernity On the other end of the spectrum is Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika, a label that challenges traditional norms and embraces a more rebellious, modern aesthetic. Shubhika Sharma’s creations are colorful, edgy, and experimental, incorporating unconventional materials and bold designs that stand out in a crowd. This brand caters to a younger, more daring demographic, looking to make a statement rather than adhere to classic styles.
Comparative Analysis: Tradition and Innovation What’s interesting is how each of these brands, though operating in different cultural and market contexts, manages to find a balance between tradition and innovation. Burberry, maintaining its luxury heritage, adapts to the modern market with digital integration and global expansion strategies. Sabyasachi, while deeply rooted in Indian craftsmanship, continues to evolve, embracing new techniques and styles to keep his designs fresh and relevant.
Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika represents a leap towards modernity, focusing less on tradition and more on creating new trends and expressions in fashion. This brand is much like the new voices in the fashion industry worldwide, which prioritize breaking norms and setting new boundaries.
Conclusion: A Tapestry of Styles The comparison between Burberry, Sabyasachi, and Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika illustrates a global tapestry of styles where every thread counts. Each brand, whether British or Indian, tells a story through its fashion, influenced by its heritage but driven by the modern world's demands. As global consumers become more interconnected, the influence of traditional and modern design elements blends even more, creating exciting, dynamic fashion landscapes for us to explore.
These brands show that whether in the lush countryside of England or the bustling streets of Mumbai, fashion remains a universal language, spoken fluently with both classic and contemporary dialects.
