Smile like Smilodon, because it’s Fossil Friday! This saber-tooth cat roamed the Americas during the Pleistocene, and went extinct some 10,000 years ago. Scientists estimate that its signature teeth, which could reach lengths of 7 in (18 cm), grew at the rapid speed of .24 in (6 mm) per month—double the growth rate of an African lion’s teeth. To unsheathe these knife-like canines, Smilodon could open its jaws twice as wide as today’s big cats.
You can spot this fearsome predator in the Museum’s Hall of Primitive Mammals. We're open daily from 10 am–5:30 pm! Plan your visit.

Hello reader, and hello to who this drawing is of, (if that person is reading this)
I don't wanna get too emotional, but this is a drawing of my gf I made a while ago before we broke up.
--(I dont like to draw humans that much, which is why I drew her as a furry. I've made her a few different fursonas. Making people fursonas is how I show my love haha.)
I don't usually like to share personal things, so I won't be share details and names will remain anonymous.
It's been a few months since we broke up, and we were together for over a year. This was the first REAL relationship I've ever been in. I've been in multiple relationships in the past but none that felt this deep. This person had shown me what it is like to really love someone, and I thank them for that. It just hurts that they no longer feel that way about me. But that's fine. I don't hate them for it. I just hope that whoever else they end up with makes them happy. That's all I ever wanted for them because I do still love them. It will probably take a while longer for me to fully let go.
I'm posting this artwork as a way to help that, to help me let go. I've had this artwork piled in a stack of "to post" artworks for so long, so I felt finally going through with posting it would be healing.
I've also been working on an animation about this breakup as something else to help me out of the depressed slump I was in. I will be posting it soon. I am doing a lot better now, so I don't need anyone to feel bad for me.
I don't really know how to end this, but I guess I wish everyone well, and I hope anyone going through the same thing has their heart healed soon❤️‍🩹

Astrid is too cool to care about being “cringe”.
She is free to like what ever she likes. She lives without needing to do things ironically <3

Machairodus aphanistus
Testing out CSP's textured brushes and... WOW. I'm so happy with the result that when I looked at it the day after I finished it, I could hardly believe I had made this.
I'd never painted a saber-tooth cat before. Machairodus will be one of the subjects on my Masters thesis project, but this one hasn't been reviewed by my advisors yet. It was more of a practice piece to see if I could improve my digital technique. Well, mission accomplished!
As mentioned, Machairodus was a saber-toothed cat that lived during the Miocene epoch, circa 23 million years ago, and it's estimated that it went extinct 10.000 years ago. It was approximately the size of a lion, but with a longer snout, narrower head and smaller eyes. It was short of legs, so paleontologists suggested it was an ambush predator who wrestled with it's prey (horses, swine, antelope and cervids) and then used it's long canines to slit the throat. The species portrayed here, aphanistus, was discovered in Cerro de los Batallones, Spain, and in Portugal we know it might have occurred due to a single canine tooth found in Santarém.

Happy Halloween! Here are two quick drawings I did for two very good friends. First one combines one friend's favorite dinosaur (Spinosaurus) with one of her favorite classic movie monsters (The Invisible Man). The second one is a Smilodon cosplaying as Karlach (aka best girl) from Baldur's Gate 3 - this particular friend is a cat-lover, and we've been enjoying playing the game together (or more accurately, I've been enjoying watching her play, since I'm absolutely terrible at video games lol). Both of these drawings are ink and colored pencil on Bristol paper.
