Fun fact anon here(Though technically not anon because I want to share an image) While I don’t want to call you out on the lore for the creatures, though I will, did you know: That sound is quite literally vibrations.

Any sound you hear requires a medium to travel through, which is why you always hear people talking about how there’s no sound in space. That’s because it can travel in a vacuum. To illustrate sound as a wave, I’ll point out one of my favorite things that I think is neat.

The Doppler Effect!

Here’s a handy dandy image that does more to illustrate it than I could in a long winded explanation:

Basically, the added initial speed of the ambulance (or any other object) increases the “speed” (frequency/energy/whatever the correct terminology is, this isn’t exactly speciality) of the sound waves, making it sound higher pitched. And if the object is traveling away from the listener, it sounds at a lower pitch. Like a train.

Some radars even use the Doppler effect to track objects.

Now I could talk about what happens when you pass the speed of sound, but for the sake of brevity on an already long ask I’ll leave it unmentioned.

I actually did know about the doppler effect! I learned about it while studying for the physics section of my MCAT for med school admissions!! I did well in physics while in college but i hated it. Chemistry used to kick my ass. But jokes on my professors; I passed babyyyyyyyyyyy.

I didn't know that it's what is used by reptiles, though. That's so interesting! You know, I used to hate snakes but now I think they're so cute??? I watch youtube videos about them and I think that helped. I do the same with spiders (tarantulas) but yet I don't find them cute...i don't think i ever will. too fuzzy and i hate the way spiders move like omg stop that.

if I didn't already have a puppy, I would get a snake. maybe in a few years! after i get out of school and all that.
