zukka ficlet - knee pain 1.6k
“Bleeding hog monkeys,” Sokka cursed through gritted teeth as the leather strap on his knee brace finally snapped off. It had been weakened in their last fight with Fire Nation stragglers. A few groups were less than excited about the new fire lord’s orders—aka, to stop the attempt at world domination—and had finally decided to fight back. The gaang had been traveling the past few months to subdue them. Sokka insisted he was going to help, even though his knee, still wounded from falling during their fight with the airships, wasn’t as agreeable than his mind. Putting aside his slight lack of speed and faulty reactions in battle, it was causing him insurmountable pain. He had engineered a knee brace to help, and it had reduced the stress on his joints and allowed him to fight closer to his previous abilities, but the brace was now nothing more than a tattered mess of singed leather and half melted buckles.
Sokka balled up the frayed array of straps and chuckled it into the river he was sitting next to—an action that sent pain clambering up his leg, and making him yelp with a certain high pitched sound that certainly wasn’t manly.
“Sokka?”
Sokka immediately flinched into upright position. “Z-Zuko,” he chirped, attempting to casually lean against the rock he was standing near as Zuko emerged from the woods. “Fire Lord Zuko. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Zuko rolled his eyes and walked up. “I told you to stop calling me that." He came to a stop in front of him, and Sokka couldn't help but admire him. His hair was getting even longer now, and it suited him.
It had been quite some time since the coronation. Lots of time together, working to undo the damage his father had done. Both by his side in the fire nation as his ambassador, and now, traveling again. So much had changed, and while he certainly looked more regal now, with his long hair and patterned robes, he still made Sokka's heart race like he had at boiling rock all that time ago. Perhaps even more so, as they'd continued to get closer as they worked—
"Dinner’s almost gone, and you weren’t back yet.” A teasing smile played at Zuko's lips, despite his attempts to appear stoic and wise. “I thought you were stuck in a hole.”
“Hey!” Sokka said, with an accusing wave of his finger. “You weren’t there for that.”
“Toph told me,” Zuko said. “Several times.”
Sokka clicked his tongue in embarrassment, feeling his cheeks warm. Damn Toph. In an attempt to make up for her and Zuko’s lack of a life-changing bonding trip, she’d taken to telling any story that made Zuko laugh—and most of those tended to be at Sokka’s expense.
“But I see you’re above ground,” Zuko said, his golden eyes passing over Sokka, seeming to glow in the dim light. “And in one piece. So what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong,” Sokka said with a fake lofty air.
“You’re missing dinner,” Zuko said. “And it’s pig hen, your favorite.”
He never could get anything past him.
Sokka sighed in defeat and blew air to move a strand of hair from his face. “My knee hurts. I was trying to fix the brace, and I couldn’t, so it’s going to hurt more until I can get materials to make a new one.”
“You told Katara it didn’t hurt.” The words came in Zuko’s standoffish deadpan. Sometimes it was hard to tell when Zuko was just stating a fact in his rough voice or when he was being belligerent.
“Yeah, well. She’s having fun with Aang tonight. They’re all gross and obnoxiously lovey-dovey.” His looked away, at anything other than Zuko’s intense expression. Maybe if he studied the ants on the ground enough it would teleport him out of this conversation. “I’m not going to ruin that by making her bend water over my knee for an hour and then be all worried after.” He shook his head, and then met Zuko’s eyes again with what he hoped was a convincing smile. “It’s fine.”
Zuko’s stare was unnervingly sharp. Deadly. It was similar to the look he used to give them when they were about to fight, or the look he gave conniving fire lord generals who were faithful to his father’s old ways. Like he was really fucking angry and the only thing stopping him from setting things ablaze was Iroh’s voice in his head telling him to breathe.
But in an instant, it was gone.
“I’ll do it,” Zuko said curtly.
Sokka snorted. “You’ll do what?”
“I’ll work on your knee.”
“Yeah, thanks, but I don’t need my skin melted. When I do, I’ll give you a call.”
“Pain relief,” Zuko corrected, glaring at him like it should have been obvious that Zuko wasn't suggesting amputation by agonizing flame. “I’ve been…working on it. Uncle said the elements can learn from each other, so I figured there must be a way. I know your knee has been hurting so…I’ve been practicing.” He nervously rubbed the back of his hair. “It will help. Make it feel better, if only for a bit.”
Sokka blinked, staring at him with wide eyes. Zuko did all that for him? For him?
But Zuko’s pointed gaze snapped back to him, making Sokka’s heart flinch.
“It isn’t a choice. Either you do it with me or you ask Katara.” He stalked forward, almost threateningly, making Sokka take a half step back. “It would have been in a better place by now if you had rested at first. You can’t keep hurting yourself and pretending like it doesn’t matter—”
“Okay,” Sokka said, putting his hands up with a gentle laugh. Only Zuko would show he cared by trying to intimidate Sokka into taking care of himself. “Okay, we’ll do it.” He snorted, trying to offset the real emotions he was feeling with a joke. “What am I gonna do, run away from you?”
Zuko’s eyes narrowed. “That’s not funny.”
Sokka blinked. Maybe it would have been funnier if he hadn’t landed on his bad knee after saving Zuko from an arrow, but that was neither here nor there.
So he gave in and sat down, awkwardly, not knowing exactly how to react at what was about to happen.
Zuko knelt in front of him, which was already an image that made Sokka’s head spin, and then he rolled up Sokka’s pant leg, making Sokka’s entire body tense in embarrassment. But he didn’t stop him. He was just relieved that Zuko was so concentrated on his knee that he wasn’t noticing how much Sokka was blushing.
Zuko did a small motion with his hand, and flames erupted from his palm. But he concentrated, his eyes narrowed, and the bright orange fire subsided into a snaking ring that began to spin, controlled and glowing. It almost…moved like water.
Zuko placed it above Sokka’s knee, enough so the warmth radiated across his skin but didn’t burn.
Sometimes Sokka couldn’t fathom it. That someone he used to hate, sometimes even fear, was now someone he trusted so completely he’d allow him to not only bend next to him, but use it to help him, now, when he was vulnerable.
The heat was intense. Not unpleasant, but intense. Almost like it was blocking out the pain as it radiated up his leg, settling in his chest.
He let out a sigh, slowly settling into the position as the tension seeped from his shoulders. He hadn’t felt this painless in…a long time.
“I…I never did say thank you,” Zuko murmured. Zuko’s lashes were long, eyes downcast as he worked the flames under his hands. “For earlier.”
“You better not be doing this because you feel guilty,” he said. “Because I’ve saved your life about a hundred times by now. With that logic, you’ll be doing me favors until we’re both old men.”
Zuko chuckled. It was a low, good sound. A sound that made Sokka feel like he won a prize every time he earned it. A sound that made Sokka want to drop everything else and just focus on making Zuko smile.
“Gladly,” Zuko said with a low smile. “I’d do pretty much anything for you, Sokka.”
Sokka stilled, everything else fading from his view as he met Zuko’s golden eyes.
“But I’m not doing this out of guilt,” he continued. The heat pressed on, and the pain was gone from his mind. “I’m doing this so you don’t stubbornly give yourself chronic pain. Because I care about your knee,” he said. The flames dimmed, but his hand still glowed, and he slowly placed his palm against his knee. Sokka could feel the heat, and his heart was squeezing in his chest—
“And I care about you.”
His hand was still there. It was a marvel that Sokka’s brain was still functioning enough to form the thought that Zuko’s hand was on his knee as he stared up at him, saying that he cared about him.
Now. He should tell him he loves him now, right now, before he lost his nerve, again—
“Zuko, I…”
“We should get back,” Zuko said with a breeziness that Aang would have been proud of, and Sokka felt a rush of cold air as Zuko’s hand left him. Zuko stood, brushing himself off.
Sokka’s stomach dropped with a mixture of alarm and disappointment as the moment went up in smoke before his eyes. “Thanks,” he managed to blurt out.
“No problem,” he said. “Just one of the hundred of favors I owe you, right?”
“Right,” Sokka said in a faint voice. He let out a nervous, bubbling laugh. “We’ll have to grow old together just so you have time to make it all even.”
“Wouldn’t want it any other way.” Zuko smiled warmly. Of course it was warm. Everything about Zuko was warm.
Spirits. This would be the death of him, wouldn’t it? Loving this man who was so dense he would never catch onto any of Sokka’s flirting, and being so helplessly and terrifyingly in love he’d rather take an arrow to the heart than risk ruining their friendship? Was this just his fate now?
He stood, and subsequently staggered, his legs wobbly from a reason completely different than the pain from earlier, but Zuko steadied him. His warm hands holding his arm, the other on the small of his back, and he was so close that Sokka could smell the scent of smoke that followed him.
“You good?” Zuko’s voice was tinged with concern, sparking in his ear. “Is it still in pain?”
“No,” Sokka said quickly. “Just getting…used to it. It feels better. It feels great. I-I can’t wait for you to do it again.” Please.
Zuko blinked, some unreadable shock in his eyes at the words that had just tumbled from Sokka’s mouth, but his smile twitched onto his face. “I’m glad it worked,” he said. “And I can carry you. If it helps.”
Sokka’s face lit up in a blush and he smacked Zuko’s chest. “I do not need you to carry me.” I certainly couldn’t handle you carrying me. “Just…this. This is enough.”
Zuko readjusted, allowing Sokka to hold onto his forearm, the two slowly making their way back to camp. The pain from his knee was distant as he talked to Zuko about the earlier battles, relishing in ever laugh that he got.
Yeah.
This would be enough.

i'm going to delete this fucking document before i finish writing it so have what was supposed to be the intro to my pirate!zukka fic that is giving me a headache; as a treat 🥰
Everything starts on a random, unassuming, and sunny Thursday afternoon.
He’s strolling through Caldera, hood securely pulled up over his head to avoid recognition, both by the guards who are undoubtedly looking for him and the citizens of the town. He’s supposed to be in the palace square, there’s a hanging scheduled for today, but Zuko’s never been very interested in the…fanfare of it all. The announcement of all the crimes committed, the rich and snooty cheering along as his fa—Ozai reads about their crimes and eggs the crowd on with his propensity for dramatics, the executioner lazily sharpening his axe or checking the knots on the rope—whichever form of death Lord Ozai had decided would be more befitting for that particular pirate on that particular day.
It makes Zuko’s stomach turn, all of it, and so instead of fulfilling his duty as the future Lord of Caldera, he’s sneaking around the city in hopes of killing enough time that he won’t be back until well after the sun has gone down and the fanfare is over and he can avoid his father long enough to return to the duties he cares about doing. Like leading training for the soldiers or listening to the troubles of the town’s residents.
Or, if he’s feeling dangerous, fantasize about sailing the open—
He doesn’t get a chance to finish that thought as something—no, someone knocks him on his ass.
“Oh, shit. Sorry, dude.” Zuko feels his hood slip off of his head as he falls, which is almost immediately followed by low gasps and whispers around the market’s main square. He winces as he shifts on his ass, jumping back in surprise as a scarred and tan hand shoots into view. Even knowing who he is, most people wouldn’t give a second thought to helping him get off the ground, instead simply choosing to skirt around him and duck their heads lest Zuko summons his dad to make them suffer the consequences of Zuko’s own free will and clumsiness. No, he’s not bitter about it, thank you very much.
Anyway, back to his current situation.
In front of him is an outstretched hand, and when he follows the hand up to see who it belongs to, he can’t see their face with the sun’s rays creating a halo around their head. “I promise I don’t have scurvy or anything, dude.” Zuko feel a flush spread across his cheeks, not realizing how much time has gone by, as he reaches out to grab the stranger’s hand. Since Zuko is having the worst luck of his life today, the moment he’s standing in an upright position he trips over his own feet and topples forward into the strangers chest. Zuko feels his flush deepend as the stranger catches him around the waist, causing more muttering to break out around the town square.
Azula is definitely cackling about this somewhere.
Zuko hates that he really, kinda deserves it.
When he finally musters up the courage to look up and thank the stranger—y’know, because he’s a decent human being—the words get caught in his throat. The stranger is a very handsome, yet very unassuming individual, despite his stature. He’s wearing a simple deep blue tunic that does nothing to hide the myriad of tiny scars that are littered across his collarbone and chest. He’s wearing tiny silver hoops in his ears that give off a slight glint in the sunlight, and his hair is shorn close to the scalp from his forehead down. His eyes are a beautifully deep shade of brown, that Zuko has to stop himself from drowning in.
The image of a halo around this guy’s head seems fitting in this moment, because Zuko’s almost positive he’s an angel. The stranger chuckles. “Thanks. Most people call me Sokka, though.” Oh no, he’d said that out loud. “Yeah, dude, sorry.”
Oh no.
Zuko quickly straightens his posture, using his free hand to dust off his robes. The guy—Sokka—hasn’t quite let go of his hand yet, and though it’s slightly awkward for a first meeting, he can’t say he minds the contact. Zuko clears his throat before responding, “My apologies, I am usually not so out of it.”
Sokka’s reply has an air of confidence latched onto it. “So, you’re saying I’m special.” Zuko takes a moment to answer. He takes in the broad, strong shoulders and soft way Sokka’s eyelashes splay across his cheeks when he blinks and the scar that trails from under his left eye in a diagonal down to his chin and possibly his neck. He takes in deep freckles and deep brown eyes and Zuko can’t help but be swept away.
“We just met,” Zuko replies. “I do not yet know if you deserve that title.” When Sokka smiles in response, it only serves to solidify Zuko’s thoughts. He doesn’t think he’s ever been taken quite so quickly with someone he just met. On a whim, Zuko lightly squeezes Sokka’s hand where it’s still in his grasp.
“Yet?” Sokka’s grin widens, showing off a dimple in his left cheek. Zuko wants to kiss it. “So, you wanna see me again?”
Unfortunately, they’re knocked into by a group of kids who are likely rushing to spend their weekly allowances on dried candy and poppers. Shaken out of their bubble, Zuko takes in the side glances and whispers of those who witnessed the exchange and internally winces. He cannot let this get back to his father.
“I’m afraid I’m in a bit of a hurry. Duty calls.” Zuko ignores the way Sokka’s eyes seem to land on the royal crest that’s embroidered into his collar where his cloak has slipped off his shoulders. Damn Ozai for branding essentially all his clothing. In a moment of boldness, he asks, “Are you from around here?” For a moment, Sokka doesn’t answer, and Zuko takes the time to mentally berate himself from acting like an idiotic teenager with their first crush.
“Not exactly,” is what comes out of Sokka’s mouth when he finally replies. There’s a glint in his eyes as he answers, something Zuko isn’t quite sure he’s understanding the meaning behind, but he ultimately decides to ignore it. “Tonight’s my last night in town. Y’know, duty calls.” He says, resting his hand lightly on the sword at his hip that Zuko had honestly failed to notice. It feels like an inside joke, the way Sokka smirks as he completes the action, but Zuko also chooses to ignore that. His father would be having a conniption if he could see how comfortable he was acting with a complete and total stranger. With a pirate. “How about you meet me at Aunt Wu’s later tonight? It’ll be my treat.”
There are shouts coming from down the street, and when Zuko turns around he can see the unmistakable figures of his father’s guards marching their way down the street in his direction. Inwardly he curses himself for getting too comfortable, forgetting that he’s literally next in line to be Lord of Caldera and yet here he is holding hands and openly flirting with a lowly commoner. He goes to turn back towards where Sokka has gone quiet behind him, but is stopped in his tracks when the man in question steps into Zuko’s space and places his lips behind the shell of Zuko’s ear.
“Sorry to cut this short, darling, but that’s my cue. Meet me at seven.” The way Sokka’s breath hits his skin gives him goosebumps, and he just barely stops himself from shivering in response. “Don’t keep me waiting, my lord, otherwise you might hurt my feelings.” And just like that, the pressure of another body along his back is gone, and when Zuko turns around to respond, Sokka is already gone, lost in the crowd of blues and browns and reds. He sighs, barely hiding his annoyance when the guards stomp up behind him.
He turns, doing his best to put the most bored expression he can manage on his face. “Did the high and mighty Fire Lord run out of executions to hand out and finally realize I was missing?” When the guards don’t respond, simply part and turn back in the direction of the palace, Zuko sighs again as he begins the trek back to what he knows is going to be an earful of bullshit.
He feels deep brown eyes on his back the entire walk back.

On ice we fall (in love)
Zuko and Sokka rivals to friends to lovers slowburn competitive figure skating AU.
Foolsong
Zuko is an idiot trying to get over a breakup, Sokka is a hockey boy, and online dating isn't really that awful.
Blue
Iroh insists they create a new life and identity in Ba Sing Se. Zuko wants nothing more than to bide his time until his next opportunity to return home, until he realizes ‘Lee’ can get away with things Zuko never could.
Zuko dons the mantle of the Blue Spirit again only to los e his focus when the Avatar comes to the city. This time, however, his attention is drawn to the annoying Southern Tribe warrior.
winter solstice: an addendum

I'll Come Back Someday (For You)
“We’ll be together someday. I won’t stop looking until I find you again.”
Those words, Sokka thought, were a blessing.
After living through several lives without Zuko, they now feel like a curse.
They were the last words Sokka muttered to the Fire Lord on his death bed after saving Avatar Korra from an attempted kidnapping, and while he meant them, he didn't know that they would come true.
Yet, he tried, tried, tried again, and after cycling into his fourth life, he's starting to give up hope.
All until he walks into the Jasmine Dragon right next to Republic City University's campus.
(i'm sorry but) i'm just thinking of the right words to say
Zuko is the last person Sokka expects to end up as his roommate when he starts college. Sokka is the last person Zuko expects to befriend when he starts his whole life over. And no one who knows a thing about their shared past expects them to end up together. Except, maybe, Toph.
There's Bound To Be A Ghost At The Back Of Your Closet
Zuko needs a new dad, and Hakoda volunteers. A story spanning Zuko's old life, new life, and beyond
running right back to you
the air conditioning stops working at the Jasmine Dragon, and it's miserable until a cute stranger makes it a bit more bearable
Sorry, I Have to Move to Alaska!
Following a lengthy legal battle with Ozai, Iroh has full custody of his niece and nephew. Desperate to get Zuko and Azula away from Ozai (just in case) Iroh buys a tea shop in Anchorage, Alaska.
Sokka has been living in Anchorage since birth and nothing interesting ever happens in this city. Except less than a month into this school year, the mysterious new kid with a facial scar beats up a well-known student in first period.
purrfect for each other
because sometimes, it takes going to a cat café four times to realize you're in love with your best friend
The World We Dream About
A HS Theatre Kid AU where the gaang is in Hadestown, featuring all our favorite high school nostalgia moments and way too many tropes
when i'm set alight
“I’m going to go practice some firebending forms,” Zuko says stiffly, running a hand through the tangles in his hair. “Tell Aang to join me if he wants to once he wakes up.” Gold eyes dart up to where Aang had strung up a makeshift hammock and was still sleeping soundly, snoring like a buffalo yak.
“Alright,” Sokka says, watching as he walks out without another word, evidently having reverted back into his usual brooding self. “Have fun!” He calls after Zuko loudly, which he means to be sarcastic, but comes out painfully, embarrassingly sincere. His face burns, and as soon as Zuko passes out of sight into the the temple, Katara turns to him, leveling him with a Look.
“You like him.” She says, and it’s not a question.
Born Lucky
Zuko knew this would happen one day.
He really should've prepared better.
Of course, he'd imagined something like this many times. He'd see him-- or anyone from high school, really-- and he wouldn't even be recognized. They'd be immediately enamored with him and wouldn't even pause to think he looked like that one girl from high school.
Instead, he has a 24-year-old Sokka cradling a swollen wrist and smiling awkwardly up at Zuko.
like we're made of starlight
When former High Imperial Prince and Sith Acolyte Zuko defects to the rebellion Commander Sokka is tasked to keep an eye on him and bring him into the fold.

ok i know the sex ed post was ages ago but I saw it in your most liked tab and it got me thinking, particularly with zukka, that even though they had sex ed they wouldn't have had gay sex ed. zuko grew up with sailors + the royal family in homophobic fire nation, and sokka got probably taught by gran gran about having babies. so all i can think is that if they decided to take that step when older, they are gonna have no clue what to do. queue sokka very very awkwardly shuffling up to bato who he knows is in a relationship with his dad and saying can I ask a question. promise not to laugh at me. except bato is less amused and more mildly horrified that sokka has chosen him to answer these questions
oh my god yeah. like, i'm not sure gran-gran's sex ed would've been heteronormative - depends on what you think the southern water tribe's attitudes are - but there's a very strong possibility that sokka, as a sexist teenage boy who thought he was straight, may have been like GRAN-GRAN EWWW STOP LALALA I'M NOT LISTENING
like the convo went: here's how babies happen -> sometimes grown-ups do this without the intent to make babies -> people can also do it with people of the same physical sex -> sokka running away screaming
he now regrets that.
for zuko, i think he might have. um. hands-on experience. y'know. on the ferry. with jet. does that prepare him for being in an actual relationship? probably not.
i'm not sure either of them would want to ask for guidance tbh. both of them canonically have experience with women (azula saying "mai seems to be in a good mood lately" had an undertone to it, sokka and suki in "the southern raiders") and zuko has some experience with men, so they'd probably just assume it's fine. figure it out as they go. it can't be that hard, right?
that said the image of sokka asking bato for advice on having gay sex is SO funny. bato knew he was signing up to be a dad when he started dating hakoda but he didn't think he'd have to give The Talk. also he has to be really careful about what examples he uses since his current gay sex partner is sokka's dad. (i imagine bato had some other relationships, but they all ended bc they realized he'd never value them above hakoda.) also sokka is asking specifically because he wants to have sex with the fire lord and like bato knew they were dating but he's never gonna get over how weird his life is now. "my stepson is asking me advice on gay sex so he can fuck the fire lord". truly wild.
meanwhile zuko has started spending time at piandao's bc he needs a father figure since iroh fucked off to ba sing se (plus piandao knows fire nation politics & can help him navigate being the fire lord) so he walks in one day and is like "yeah i have a question. not about politics but uhh. personal stuff" and piandao's like "oh what is it" and zuko tells him and piandao is like "i'm so honored you're asking me" and goes to his library and finds him a guide to gay sex that got banned in the fire nation but piandao managed to find a copy (he has a lot of illegal gay lit) and hands it to him like. go have fun kiddo. i'm rooting for you guys.
the other possibility is that suki (who is still dating sokka, they have an open relationship) finds out they want to have sex and knowing the state of their sex ed decides that they need a Lesson. it's a very good lesson because kyoshi island has very good queer positive sex ed but sokka has some interesting feelings about his girlfriend teaching him how to have sex with his boyfriend. not bad feelings. just interesting
ANYWAYS this is a fun topic and thank you for the mental image of sokka asking bato about gay sex

zukka n 22 pls :)
22. a kiss in a rush of adrenaline.
"Sokka."
"I know."
"It's just that…if you don’t make it…”
"I know, Zuko."
"Sorry. You can do this. Win for me, yeah?"
Sokka spares a glance at him, seeing how he is worrying his bottom lip. Zuko meets his eyes, as if he can read Sokka's thoughts about Zuko's lips and his hands and his--
"Sokka!" Suki warns.
"Shit," Sokka curses, redirecting his attention to the television and glaring at the banana peel that his kart just ran into. "Sorry, uh, got distracted."
"Sokka just hit a banana peel," Zuko says, continuing his ongoing narration to Toph. "I think it's the one he planted during the last lap."
Toph lets out a cackle that Sokka chooses not to acknowledge, and out of the corner of his eye he sees Katara lean forward more. His palms feel sweaty. He's so close to gaining on her, he can't let Zuko down after Katara beat him in the last race. Funny, the fact that he could lose the pool of money reserved for the champion of their Mario Kart bracket doesn't seem to matter to him anymore.
"Katara is still in the lead but Sokka is catching up, they are approaching the finish line to start the final lap, they both just got a power-up..."
Sokka tunes him out as he crosses the finish line, focusing on the final lap, on beating Katara. He turns a corner, then another, then-
"Fuck," Katara mutters as she just barely misses the shortcut that Sokka takes, then she shouts, "Fuck!" when her position changes to 2nd and Sokka takes 1st. He doesn't dare let it distract him though, tries desperately to not get distracted by Zuko for once as his narration of the game gets louder from his excitement. Sokka just focuses on completing the rest of the track smoothly, dodging a shell that Katara sends his way, then-
"YES!" he and Zuko shout at the same time, Sokka jumping to his feet as Zuko chants, "He won, Sokka won!"
Suki and Aang cheer and Katara gets up to give her brother a firm congratulatory handshake and a smile that makes Sokka fearful of ever trying his luck a second time. He turns back to Zuko, finally letting himself fully bask in his smile and the way his eyes are wide and excited. He's on his feet, throwing his arms around Sokka so strongly that they nearly topple over, then Zuko is pulling back from the hug and Sokka's hands are grabbing his elbows to stop him from getting too far and he's leaning forward and-
Shocked silence falls over the room except for the music from Mario Kart and, after a few moments, Toph saying, "What?"
Zuko and Sokka are staring at each other in shock, Sokka's hands still frozen on Zuko and Zuko seeming unable or unwilling to step away.
"Uh, Sokka just kissed me," Zuko tells her. Toph cackles again.
"I did," Sokka says. It had barely been a kiss, just a peck really, but there was no denying their lips met. And he wanted it to happen again. But also... "Sorry, it was the adrenaline," he starts, but when Zuko's face falls Sokka grips his arms tighter. "Not like that! Like, I definitely wanted to kiss you, but I hadn't planned to do it just now, I was just excited and you were looking so-"
"Sokka, I will double my contribution to the money pool if you have this conversation literally anywhere else," Katara says, already going through the menu to start a new race, sounding way too unenthusiastic for someone who has been telling Sokka to make a move for months. Everyone else is still busy processing what just happened to say anything else; Aang's eyes are darting quickly between Zuko and Sokka, Suki is hiding a smile behind her hand, and Toph is smirking in their direction.
And, well, it's the push that Sokka needs as he grabs Zuko's hand and leads them toward the door to go for a walk and a conversation that has been a long time coming.
#i was going to choose which map theyre doing and who they play as etc but to be honest im too lazy to think about that rn#thanks for the prompt!#sophiasrant#ask me stuff#prompts#my writing#zukka

For the ask game — may I humbly request Zukka + “You don’t have to stay” ? 🥺👉🏻👈🏻
For this prompt game!
“You don’t have to stay,” Sokka says, taking a deep breath and fighting back the stinging heat behind his eyes, his fancy new shoes squishing unpleasantly with gunky basement-floor water and his favorite pants probably getting ruined and tonight was supposed to be fun and perfect and sexy and instead it’s awful and—
“I know,” Zuko says, tossing down a roll of paper towels from the top of the basement stairs that Sokka reflexively catches before it smacks him in the face, his gold eyes going wide before he ducks quickly away, muttering something about towels.
“Fuck, this is just—” Terrible, horrible, the worst timing of his fucking life, of all times for the sub pump to back up it chooses now, when he’s about to— “Ridiculous,” he says, trying to force a laugh and casting around for something high enough off the ground to put the paper towels on because they…really aren’t going to be enough.
“You don’t have to stay,” he says when Zuko reappears with towels, wincing when he notices Zuko’s nice, lovely clothes traded out for a pair of Sokka’s ratty sweats.
“Okay,” Zuko says, lips pursed as he eyes the steadily widening pool of water. “Should we get stuff off the floor?”
“I can’t believe this is happening,” Sokka groans, tossing the towels down as some flimsy stop gap of a barrier and squeezing his eyes shut as something twists in his chest when he goes to pick up the first cardboard box to find it already sopping and soaked through and fuck, he can’t even remember what’s in here but it’s probably ruined. “You don’t have to be here for this.”
“Hm,” Zuko grunts as he hefts up a box, casting around before shoving it on top of the washing machine and leaving a wet dirt-streak behind that makes Sokka’s stomach drop.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry—I can’t believe this is happening, it’s so—you don’t have to deal with this, it’s disgusting, and we were supposed to—” Well, Sokka had hoped for a lot of things, tonight. “You don’t have to—”
“Sokka,” Zuko cuts in, sharp enough to grab Sokka’s attention up off the dirty stain on his shirt. “I know,” Zuko says firmly, brow furrowed. “You don’t have to keep saying it.”
“Just,” Sokka flounders, “This isn’t what we planned, we were supposed to—”
“And life doesn’t always go as planned,” Zuko shrugs, like it’s that easy, like it doesn’t matter, like— “That doesn’t mean I’m going anywhere, right?”
Sokka opens his mouth and stalls out, throat suddenly tight and empty.
“Okay?” Zuko presses, somehow gentle and firm at the same time. “I’m not going anywhere,” he says as he eases the box out of Sokka’s hands, setting it down on a chair before grabbing at Sokka’s wrist, that determined-focused look on his face like he gets when he’s saying one thing but trying to make Sokka understand what he means because he doesn’t know how else to put it, and—and—
“Oh,” Sokka finally says, the word coming out small, his voice shaking in a way he doesn’t want to show but also…but also in a way he maybe doesn’t have to hold back?
“You don’t have to make it perfect for me, Sokka,” Zuko says, searching his face before giving him one of his quick, flashing little smiles. “It’s already perfect, just because it’s use,” he says, sweet and simple and devastating and almost shy as he leans in for a quick kiss that sets Sokka’s head buzzing, spinning, Sokka standing there feeling quietly stunned and warm as Zuko goes back to shifting boxes. Feel like he can just be for the first time…in he doesn’t know how long, doesn’t remember a time when he could just let go like that, but—
“Don’t forget to breathe,” Zuko says without looking up, amused, and Sokka huffs out a shaky laugh before sucking in a deep breath, then another, feeling more solid with each one and looking around the mess, his panicky thoughts finally tripping toward something useful—turn off the water, disconnect the pump, call Bato for his shop vac.
He can’t actually stop right now, he actually needs to take care of this, sooner rather than later. But…it doesn’t have to be perfect, maybe. To still be okay.

Zukka, #13. “Why am I always your second option?” because 😈
Wonderful wonderful,
For the prompt game! (No one has picked my favorite one yet, bonus points if you do 😘)
Anyway here ya go
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exactly five years after the end of the 100 year war. A celebration is in order.
“So Sokka, who are you going to invite to the celebration?” Katara calls to her brother through the now open doorway connecting their rooms.
“I figured I’d just bring Toph, you’re going with Aang and she never bothers to ask anyone,” Katara gives him a completely unimpressed look. “What?” He asks defensively.
“You take Toph to everything, and anything you can’t take her to, you take me to. Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, even our own events”
“So? Is it wrong that I feel comfortable around you guys? Who else am I supposed to ask? Suki is still flittering around the EK helping in reconstruction and damage control, and she’s dragging Ty Lee along with her.” He pauses, a sly grin crossing his face, “Are you suggesting I ask Azula?”
Katara placed a hand on her chest in shock, “Absolutely NOT! I’m just saying it wouldn’t kill you to meet new people,”
“Actually- considering the semi-frequent attempts on my life due to my station as emissary, it very well could,” He countered, Katara only rolled her eyes.
“You know, you could always ask Mai” She offered. That stopped Sokka in his tracks. With one hand still holding his half-done braid tight he turned to face her.
“And have Zuko light me on fire? Absolutely not. Why do you hate me?” Sokka whined as the dutiful older brother he was.
“Sokka, they broke up. Like 6 months ago. For La’s sake do you ever pay attention when I speak? I’m going to get Aang, he told me if the meeting ran over three hours so to go save him. Think about talking to Mai, okay?” She said the last part with a genuine tone, but Sokka simply threw her a particularly vulgar gesture as she strode into the hall.
He grumbled to himself as he finished braiding his hair in the water-tribe style, letting the ends loose in his signature wild tail. He stared at himself in the mirror for a moment. He was twenty one now, and definitely looked it. He stood just over six feet and his build had filled out so much that sometimes it was hard to not think it was it father staring back at him.
“You know what Katara? Maybe I will,” He flexed his arms in the mirror, smiling satisfied to himself, straightened his sleeveless blue tunic, and set on his way down the hall towards Mai’s room.
~~~
“I can’t Mai, I just can’t look at one more persons ‘ideas’ on how to improve any number of things. My head is spinning, I think if I have to go over these supply routes one more time I’ll burst in to flames.” Zuko slammed his hand down onto his wooden desk, his meeting robes were hanging off his shoulders loosely. Mai sat beside him picking her nails, as disinterested as ever.
“Just tell them that you’ve got it handled and don’t need any more input. You’ve been Fire Lord for five years now Zuko, you’re not a little kid anymore” His only response was a deep groan.
Just then a knock came, but not on his door, it sounded distant. “I think that’s for me,” Mai stood with a heavy sigh “I swear if one more servant offers me tea I’ll puke” she opened Zuko’s door with an impatient “Yes?”
“Oh Mai! I was hoping I could find you,” A familiar deep voice came from the hallway. Zuko immediately jumped to his feet and straightened his robes, tying the belt so tight he almost couldn’t take a full breath. He tried to come in to Sokka’s view as casually as possible and simply hoped that he didn’t look as awful as he felt.
“Oh hey Sokka, did you need something?” Zuko spoke before Mai could make one of her signature snide remarks.
“Oh Zuko, I’m so sorry. Katara told me that you were- I need a date to- she said I- oh never mind” Sokkas face flushed all the way to his ears. Zuko thought he looked adorable. For all of his bulging muscles and political skills, he’s still just that awkward 16 year old boy who thought he could fly a bison in to the heart of the fire nation.
To his surprise, Maj stopped Sokka before he could take his leave of them. He strode over to them sheepishly. He looked absolutely stunning, obviously having just gotten finished getting ready for the night’s festivities.
“I’ll leave you two alone,” Mai simply brushed past him to return to her own room.
“Oh wait, I-“ Sokka called after her, but her door had already slammed shut. He sighed and slid down the wall, firmly planting himself on the marble floor. “Why can’t I do anything right Zuko?” The Fire Lord eyed him quizzically.
“What are you talking about?”
“Katara told me you two had broken up, so I came here to- I don’t know, it’s stupid. And it doesn’t matter because I didn’t realize Katara was wrong. I’m sorry.” Sokka placed a hand atop is head in frustration.
This is it. Zuko thought to himself. He came here to ask me to attend the festival with him, but I need to make sure he knows Mai and I aren’t together.
“Oh, Katara wasn’t wrong,” Zuko sank to his knees beside him. “We did break up, she was just helping me with some trade routes,” Sokka chucked to himself, shaking his head lightly.
“Well it doesn’t matter,” what? “She obviously wants nothing to do with me,” oh
Zukos heart plummeted into his stomach. Mai, he had come to ask Mai to the festival. Not him. Ugh, how could he have been so stupid? Instead of the hot sting of embarrassment rising in him, all Zuko felt was… rage
“Mai?” He scoffed and rose to his feet. “You came to ask Mai to the festival?”
“Yeah.” Sokka stood and matched his defensive stance, “Something wrong with that?” The water tribe boy folded his arms over his chest, a scowl settled upon his features.
“Something wro- are you out of your mind?!” Zuko couldn’t choke down his emotions any more, but it seemed Sokka was not the best at reading emotions.
“You’ve been broken up for six months, and you’re obviously on good terms. Why shouldn’t I?” Sokka stepped aside into Zukos room so he could shut the door behind them. “Katara told me not to take Toph, I don’t want to go alone”
“Are you seriously that thick?” Zuko’s accusation hit Sokka like a bucket of cold water. “And to think that I- UGH” He threw his hands in the air.
“To think that you what?” Sokkas tone was much gentler now. He realized that there was something about this situation that he missed, and it was a big something. They stood in silence for a moment- then it hit him. “Oh, oh my La Zuko I am so sorry. You thought that I came to ask you?” All of the frustration had eddied from his voice, all that was left was confusion and a tinge of sadness.
“Whatever, it doesn’t matter,” Zuko waved him off, tightening his sash even more. “I dont know why I thought you would,”
“Me either,” Sokka noticed his mistake as soon as the words left his mouth. “No- not like that, you just never seem to want to go with me to anything.”
“What are you talking about?” Zuko snipped back
“Last years diplomat ball, Mai was busy, so you asked me. Three years ago the solstice in the south, you asked Katara but Aang showed up so then you asked me. Six months ago you asked Ty Lee to the opening of the new theater, but she had to leave but I was in town so then you asked me.” Sokka’s voice raised in volume with every account he laid out. “Why am I always your second option?”
It was Zuko’s turn to be embarrassed. He had misread this situation horribly. Sokka was trying to respect his boundaries, and Zuko had essentially just accused him of stringing him along. Really, it was Zuko who had done the pulling.
“Oh… oh Sokka I am so-“ He reached out but Sokka pulled away before he could make contact.
“Don’t Zuko… just don’t,” His eyes were as cold as ice as they fixed themselves to Zuko. “You always treat me like an alternate, and I’m always there. When everyone else falls through I am there. So don’t you dare accuse me of coming here under false pretenses, I have just been trying to protect myself,” Now that hit Zuko like a ton of bricks. Sokka felt the need to protect himself from Zuko. And honestly- Zuko didn’t have a good reason for why he shouldn’t.
Zuko had never meant to string him along of course, but it just kind of…happened. It wasn’t conscious, it was just because Sokka was always there, he was safe and comfortable to be around. In his royal training he was always taught it was polite to ask the highest ranking woman (or your partner, but it was always assumed that the Fire Lords parter would in fact be the highest ranking woman) to an event first, but he now realized that there’s no way Sokka could have known that. Zuko could definitely understand how that would look from the outside. How could he have been so foolish.
“Sokka you don’t need to protect yourself from me. I didn’t understand how you felt, I got wrapped up in customs and didn’t consider how it could possibly have made you feel. For that I am truly sorry…” Sokka said nothing, just pinned him with that same impassive look. “One thing I don’t understand though…” Zuko continued, Sokka raised an eyebrow, “Is why it went this far, I mean we only ever went as friends, you knew that.”
Of course Sokka new that, but that didn’t keep the knife in his gut from twisting. He couldn’t help but let out a bitter, humorless laugh.
“Oh Zuko, you really don’t get it do you?”
“What’s there to get? You’re my best friend, we went to a few events together, nothing sinister,”
“Oh is that what you’re aiming for?” Sokka began to pace the room
“Of course not… I don’t understand what’s happening Sokka, please tell me what’s going on,” Zuko had already made a fool of himself by assuming something once this evening, he wasn’t about to do it a second time.
“For Agnis sake,” Sokka took a sharp step toward him, it started Zuko so much that they both tripped and went flying backwards, landing in a heap of robes and curses. Sokkas head cracked against his mouth, splitting his lip open.
“Ouch,” Zuko groaned, he tasted blood. Sokka listed his head to look him in the eye, preparing to berate him for being so uptight but then… they were so close.
Zuko’s lip throbbed, but all he could focus on was Sokka’s warm breath mingling with his own, and his jasmine and musk scent dominating his senses.
Sokka stayed there, unmoving, steady. Zuko didn’t dare to even shift for fear that he’d get up. Of course- they’d been this close before, they’d sparred and slept next to each other on trips. But this felt… different somehow. Intimate. Was the word that Zuko’s brain provided him.
Then, a calloused thumb was wiping the stray droplets of blood off his bottom lip. Normally, it would have hurt, but Zuko’s entire body was buzzing with uncertainty and anticipation.
Before another thought could pass through his conscious mind, Sokka’s lips were on his. Cool and steady.
And it was like the answer to a question Zuko had been asking his whole life.

Hey!! I just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work <3<3
I had been a little down when it came to creating more content or being involved in Zukka side of the fandom but seeing your update reminded me to just have fun. And okay this is going to sound bad but I swear I mean this as a compliment; I thought I was wasting my time working for months and years on the stuff I made, but then I realized your fic series brings me so much joy and I'd never, ever judge you for the amount of effort you put into your writing. Seeing it's actually inspiring, to see that someone holds that much passion and creativity and you are sharing it all for FREE. That a person could take all this time to intricately weave together a story, create memorable OCs, breathe new life and make the ATLA world so much bigger than it ever was in canon.
So thanks for accidentally giving me a kick in the butt to stop being judgy about my own work and making me realize you and every fan creator is AWESOME.
I hope you have a wonderful day, your writing is a blessing.
awwww I wanted to say thank you for sending me this ask! I know it’s not easy to put yourself out there, even on anon, so I think it’s cool you felt confident enough to come here and tell me about how you’re feeling.
I don;t think what you’re saying is bad at all haha, because honestly, I feel the same way. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wondered why the fuck am I still doing this? What’s the point? Do people even still care? What if it’s not good enough? What if people discover I have no fucking idea what I’m doing? Why am i spending so much of my time and effort doing this?? I mean… the self doubt is super real, and shiiiiiit let me discover one person that feeds into my self doubt and I’m full on spiraling haha. (Be nice to creators damn it! we are doing our damn best lol)
I’m really glad you think my fic is awesome, and if it weren’t people like you reminding me, I probably would have given up a long time ago haha. I do give my fic a lot of effort, and I hope you continue to give your creations the same amount of love and effort! I’m sure you’re amazing, and seriously don’t give up! I care about your creations and if I don’t get to stop neither do you! WOHOOO!!
Thanks for the ask anon sorry it took me so long to answer
#I am the kind of person who is like AWWWW NO ASKS…#then I get an ask and I’m like YAY ASK!!!#& then I;m like OH NO HOW DO I ANSWER THIS ASK!?!?!?#but then if I don’t get an ask in a while I assume everyone hates me and then the cycle starts over again when I get another ask#but seriously anon DON’T STOP CREATING!!!!!#I wish the voices in our head weren’t constantly trying to discredit us#I also think the pressure we put on ourselves to be good enough is fucking dumb#like who cares if people like reblog comment kudo all that stuff#but ugh we all care so much#I love that you see all my passion and creativity in LIAB because I do put a lot of effort into that stupid fic#and yeah it stresses me out but when I see that it brings people joy and its worth it#& its not even that it’s stressful to write#I fucking love writing it#but yeah don’t think you’re alone with the ‘what’s the point’ thoughts#I’m sure we’ve all been there#at least I know I have been there#and kind of still am in there hahaha#thanks for this ask anon I hope I didn’t ramble too much#I hope you show me when you create something new! I’d love to see it#LIAB#ask

Hello, this is for that 'Send me a ship' thing. And the ship I'm sending is sokka/zuko please! Have a lovely day-
Ooooh, good one! I love Zukka, so this will be fun, ha.
I'll put the answers in a read more since it's very long, ha.
Send me a ship and I’ll tell you…
Who asks the other on dates: I think they both would, you know? They would alternate date ideas, with Sokka prefering more like... educational type dates, like going to libraries, while Zuko would prolly like more chill dates, like having a picnic by the turtle duck pond.
Who is the bigger cuddler: Sokka. Zuko does not strike me as a very clingy person, but Sokka would attach to you like a pentapus and not let go.
Who initiates holding hands more often: Hm... I think Sokka again, since like I said in the previous answer, he strikes me as a more physically affectionate person. After all, he was raised in the south pole, so he had to be comfortable cuddling close to stay warm.
Who remembers anniversaries: I think Zuko... they're both terrible at it, but Zuko seems like the more quietly romantic type who would want to do things on anniversaries. Sokka would want to, but his brain is constantly thinking up new things and he forgets the important dates. Not that Zuko minds it, ha.
Who is more possessive: Zuko. In my eyes, Zuko is a possessive person given all he lost as a kid. He holds the things he loves very close to his chest (metaphorically) and hates letting them leave his sight for even a moment. Plus, I think in The Beach he was a bit possessive of Mai, right? I don't remember since I dislike that episode and don't rewatch it often, ha. But also Sokka doesn't strike me as a possessive person.
Who gets more jealous: Zuko again for the reasons above.
Who is more protective: Hm... I'd say Sokka, if only because he's been the unofficial protector of the Gaang for so long that it's become a part of him and he's deathly protective of everyone he loves, but Zuko especially since Zuko seems bound and determined to get himself killed.
Who is more likely to cheat: Neither. They're both fiercely loyal and would NEVER betray the other like that.
Who initiates sexy times the most: Ehhhh I don't like thinking of this stuff too much, so I can't really say.
Who dislikes PDA the most: Zuko, if only because he was raised in a very conservative, restrictive family who never touched each other gently, especially after his mother left. PDA makes Zuko anxious that someone will come and make him stop or something.
Who kills the spider: Neither. They make Katara or Toph do it.
Who asks the the other to marry them: They both do. They both have an elaborate plan to ask the other to marry them, but both backfire spectacularly (like Momo steals the engagement necklace that Sokka spent months perfecting, or Aang misremembers what he was supposed to say and sends Sokka in the complete opposite direction of where Zuko requested he send Sokka, etc.) and they eventually just show one another the engagement item they got/made, and laugh over their stupidity.
Who buys the other flowers or gifts: They both do equally. Zuko likes to give thoughtful gifts that he carefully picked out, while Sokka gives things he found on the ground that he thought was neat, like a cool rock or a flower from the garden. Sokka also does the thoughtful gifts sometimes, but he prefers giving small things that made him think of Zuko throughout the day.
Who would bring up possibly having kids: I think it would be Zuko at first, if only because he has to have an heir for the throne, but Sokka would be 100% on board and would actually be much more excited (and nervous) that Zuko once the idea is planted in his head.
Who is more nervous to meet the parents: Well, technically speaking they have already met each others parents, but when meeting them as a romantic partner, definitely Zuko. Given his impossibly strained relationship with his own father, not to mention the fact he was Sokka's enemy and once terrorized the Southern Water Tribe, he'd be absolutely terrified that Hakoda will hate him and will forbid him from ever dating Sokka. Sokka would have to talk him down at least 10 times from a panic attack before the first official meeting. It ends up that the fears were completely unfounded since Hakoda respects Zuko greatly and is proud of how far he's come.
Who sleeps on the couch when the other is angry: Ehhh I honestly don't know... I'd say Sokka maybe? Not much reasoning on that. It's almost 1 am here and I'm too tired to think up more, ha.
Who tries to make up first after arguments: For petty arguments, Sokka, since Zuko is too stubborn and prideful to concede first. But if Zuko truly is at fault and he knows it, Zuko would be the first to own up and apologize sincerely.
Who tells the other they love them more often: Sokka says it more often verbally, again because he was raised in a physically and emotionally open environment while Zuko was raised with Ozai and Azula so... yeah. However, Zuko would show his love more often in small ways, which I'd give an example of but again I'm very tired and can't remember the example I thought up a minute ago, sorry.

ok theres this tag game and i cannot for the LIFE of me find who tagged me im so sorry BUT
youre supposed to put the first sentence of your fics and see if there's some kind of pattern. sounds cool let's go!
“You’d probably be good at this, Sokka,” Zuko called from across the kitchen where he mixed together rice flour, sugar, and water. - Short and Sweet
“So… you’re really breaking up with me?” Zuko asked again. - Maiko Breaks Up. Zuko Has Realizations
Sokka was no stranger to grief. - do not stand at my grave and cry
Sokka narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend seated at the head of the council table. - Impact
Aang blinked at the face of the boy who had just emerged from the bushes in front of him. - Zuko Amongst the Dragons
Zuko peeled off his soiled tunic, trying desperately not to think about what had happened less than a day ago below Ba Sing Se. - If I fade away (The awful things we do to make the head go quiet)
Izumi opened the door to Zuko's office, entering with a sigh and throwing her schoolbag onto the sofa against one wall, flopping down onto it. - Mother
He doesn’t know where he is. - It was Cruel and it was Wrong
The first time it happened was only a few months after Sokka had moved out of the Fire Nation Palace to take up his new position in what was now being called Republic City. - bad idea right?
"Zu...?" - A Problem Halved is a Problem Shared
“I’m sorry, but no. The crisis that started the United Republic is still too fresh in our citizens’ minds for us to give away even more land!” Fire Lord Zuko’s voice echoed through the council chamber, louder now than the last several times he’d made a similar point. - Playing the Long Game
Zuko sat at the desk in the bedroom, looking out at the beach from the window of the vacation home on Ember Island he’d bought with Sokka. - The Last Five Years
Zuko did a lot to support Sokka in their relationship. - In Which Sokka is Supportive Ally Boyfriend Goals
Zuko couldn't stop thinking about it. - The End of All Things
Zuko spat blood, hoping Sokka wouldn't hear, and that he also hadn't heard the wet cough bubbling up in his throat since he'd been returned to their cell from his most recent interrogation. - One Last Time
“Search them!” - Zuko and Sokka Get Engaged in the Most Zukka Way Possible
"We're not good for each other." - Keeping it in the Family
"...Who did this to you?" - Scratchy
"Hey, why are you walking like that?" - Hidden Pain, Shared Love
"I promise I'm fine... I just need some rest, that's all." - Keeping Score
He never really thought he had a problem. - Nourishing the Flame Within
Sokka looked up into Zuko’s eyes, giving a small smile. - Scars of Trust
Conclusion: Uhhh I don't really notice any major patterns other than that I like to start a story in the middle of an action, which I already knew and that I DO like to start off with dialogue because I LOVE writing dialogue and I also think that's like my strongest point as a fic writer. So.
Tagging: ok no this is SO fun that literally anyone who sees this should do it and tag that I tagged you so I can see! I want EVERYONE to do this!

Hi hi thank you so much for all the emojis!! 🥰
🕯️ ⇢ on a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy editing? why is that?
Pffftt well, I've been "editing" my book for the past two years, so..... Joking aside, I would probably give it a solid 8. Nothing is as good as seeing all the hard work you've put in and then just giving it that extra little cherry on top!
Now, if you're asking me about spelling and grammar editing.... Don't.
🛼 ⇢ describe your latest wip with five emojis
🧛♂️🗡📓👻🏳️🌈
🐇 ⇢ do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both?
I've never written a reader insert but now yall got me thinking 😅
🧃 ⇢ share some personal lore you never posted about before
I have this weird thing where everyone thinks I look like someone else, and it's caused some pretty hilarious phenomenons. One time at the airport, a kid started screaming and crying because I waved at them. I still, to this day, have absolutely no idea who they thought I was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
🎲 ⇢ what stops you from writing more in your free time?
So I have this fun little thing called ADHD...... But yeah, honestly, I'm incredibly chaotic, and while trying to keep up with the real-life stuff and all the distracting stuff and all the projects I got going...... Yeah, that's why I'm typically up until 2 am writing lol
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Yay another one!!!
Zukka (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Anytime Hakoda takes Sokka for some father-son bonding time, Sokka relentlessly insists Zuko come along. Zuko and Hakoda think he's just being a clingy boyfriend, but he just wants to show Zuko that he is deserving of love from a father figure and that Iroh isn't just doing it out of guilt.
(In turn, Iroh tags along from time to time, and their trips quickly go from family bonding to a dad joke battle)
🧸 ⇢ what's the fastest way to become your mutual?
Literally just come say hi!! I swear, contrary to popular lore, I don't bite!
🪐 ⇢ name three good things going on in your life right now
I'm very lucky. Everyone in my family is doing great. Having this great opportunity to finish and publish my book. And I have great, supporting and loving friends 🖤
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
"He was just one of this like shitty guitar players in a shitty band."
"And?"
"And he was in a punk band, and I did graffiti. Can I make it more obvious?"
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
I never finished Stranger Things' first season, I don't know that I even got through the first five episodes. I was so bored the whole time.
Bonus hot take; I had the exact opposite problem with The Walking Dead. Around season five, I got really bored.
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
Guys, go Google New England Vampire Panic. Very interesting to read about, and also a good band name if you're from New England!
🦷 ⇢ share some personal wisdom or a life hack you swear on
Even if you absolutely suck at it, if it's something you love, do it with all the confidence in the world, and you'll find your place.
+ Nobody's as confident as they claim. It's all a production. Fake it 'til you make it, but don't sell your soul over it.
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
So I've recently gotten into Baldur's Gate, and I just really fucking need Gale and Astarion on like a buddy cop mission where it's just absolute clown to clown communication. Gale being his waxing poetic self, and Astarion is far too emo and far too gay for this shit.
I don't know! I'm willing to bully all my friends until one of them picks it up or I just do it myself lol
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
Don't force it. If it's not coming to you take a break don't chase it! You'll only wear yourself out and hate what you did write.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it sure burnt down in one. Remember that.
🥐 ⇢ name one internet reference that will always make you laugh
Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?
🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Very specifically, "You're evil"
Muahahahahaha 😈
🍦 ⇢ name three good things about a character you hate
Oh man, I don't think there's absolutely anything redeemable about that woman.
1.) Uhh, when she shuts up, she's cute ig.
2.) She's fun to write because I don't get to be pure evil a lot.
3.)................... She's kinda the gateway to one of my favorite characters?? 👀
🥝 ⇢ do you lie a lot? what's the most recent lie you told?
Here's a fun little fact about me, I'm brutally honest sometimes to the point of offense 😅 and I don't ever really have a need to lie.
That being said, I love randomly lying to strangers for literally no reason. Just recently, someone was being rude and interrupted my dinner with my family, so when they asked what I did for a living, I gave them a very detailed description of how I work in a morgue. I've never worked in a morgue a day in my life lol but it got them to leave me alone.
🦋 ⇢ share something that has been on your heart and mind lately
Man, this might be too deep for tumblr, but it's that time of year again when I can't stop thinking about death and all that good stuff. I'll spare you guys the gritty details, though.
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
"Look, when I moved out here, I got a mess in Oakland waiting for me, okay? My friend got all this shit and fucked this guy over and this crazy motherfucker showed up ate half my burger and killed a fucking guy. When the boss showed up, told me to get his wife outta there, I did and I ain't never been back. I got know idea what's waiting there for me."
"Hm, that's unfortunate," I crossed my arms, "Especially 'cause I watched it happen in Pulp Fiction with you last night!"
"Goddamn it."
☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?
So I answered the username part over here, so I'm going to answer about my pen name now!
I actually changed my pen name fairly recently to Gabryél Grimm-Goretz. Gabryél is actually part of my legal name 😅 and so I thought it would be cool to use it because i never get to use it day to day. I went with Grimm-Goretz to kinda represent my family and heritage in a way while also leaning into how my writing is typically grim and gory.
🐝 ⇢ tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
Whelp, we've got a nice handful of followers over here now, and unfortunately, I can't tag everyone. BUT I want to tell you all that you are appreciated. You are talented, and you are loved! Never let anyone tell you you're not good enough 'cause they're no better 🖤
🌸 ⇢ do you have any pets? if you do, post some pictures of them
Right here! uwu
🎨 ⇢ link your favourite piece of fanart and explain why you like it
I'm gonna be a little bit of a punk ass and tag myself here lol Link link link
I did this piece last year in celebration of one of my favorite band's new albums, and yeah! I just love it. It came out so good.
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
When a narrator is like, "She smiled tit-ly, so deeply that her large pendulum breasts heaved, then jiggled tightly into her pink, completely see-through lace bra. Her breasts were no doubt expressing their own excitement." 🙄
For you 😌💞

that swamp tribe korra au idea sounds g e n i u s
JSAIDOJSAJIODAS THANK YOU ANON!! YOU JUST MADE MY NIGHT!! here, have some more of my thoughts since I've been thinking of this AU non-stop and have been researching a LOT:
Korra's animal guide is still Naga, but I'm changing her species to fit Korra and the Swamp Tribe more! Here's a sketch I made a few days ago of Naga, the Wolverine-Deer!!
+ Some other sketches of animal guide ideas!
Naga's deer side is more inspired by the Sika Deer, since their adults tend to keep their spots! I chose the wolverine rather than the badger because wolverines are typically loner animals that can take down both predators and prey DOUBLE the size of them, which I think fits Korra's character more!
I've also been doodling around with Korra's design a little bit, since I don't think it would be a 1-to-1 copy of her canon design. Still, I haven't been able to settle down on anything just yet - especially since I've been trying to give the Foggy Swamp Tribe more of a culture rather than just being the Water Tribe's hillbilly cousins. I'm trying to combine both Native American tribes that lived in Florida and other wetlands with the obvious Vietnamese inspiration their tribe has! It's...taking me a bit, though, since I am researching multiple things at once while also being A Responsible Adult, skldjaldaja
So far, I'm settling down on these facts for my fic (cause I WILL BE WRITING THIS - SOMEDAY!!):
Senna is from the Foggy Swamp Tribe. Tonraq is still from the NWT. After his banishment, his ship veered off course and ran into the Swamp Tribe's delta, where he met Senna and decided to stay! He's not the chief, however, as I'm thinking that the most enlightened elders of the tribe are the elected leaders (maybe one has to meditate at the Banyan-Grove tree first before leading the FST?), and it is someone else at this current moment in time.
Sokka isn't dead! I headcanon that he died due to injuries in the Red Lotus attack, and..well...I don't think that goes exactly as planned in this AU, sjadkajdlade. Due to this, and thanks to him figuring out first that the water avatar was most likely Swamp Tribe, he has a bit of influence in Korra's life!
(Zukka will be in this btw, since I Love Them, but they won't take priority.)
Korra wasn't taken by the White Lotus when they discovered who she is. The Foggy Swamp Tribe is very protective of their own and who they see as family, loyal down to the bone, and when the White Lotus says that Korra has to go to their Southern Water Tribe facilities to be taught bending, they REFUSED it. I like to think that the family unit and community is INSANELY important to the Foggy Swamp Tribe, and just because Korra is the avatar doesn't mean that she needs to be taken away from her home.
So, basically, Korra grew up with her community and has childhood friends rather than being isolated like in canon! This changes a bit in how she approaches Mako, Bolin, and Asami when she meets up with them eventually. (AKA, fuck the romance triangle, I ain't doing that)
The entire plot of Korra has changed - due to Sokka being alive, Korra's stance on non-benders is different. Due to growing up in the Foggy Swamp Tribe, who teaches the ideals of everything and everyone is connected and that connection is important, Korra also goes about defeating Vaatu differently. Due to Tonraq never making it to the SWT, almost everyone thinks he's dead (mail can't exactly get through tall trees or extremely vicious animals), so Korra never even met Unalaq either...
That's all that I have thought of for now! Thank you for the ask, Im so SO HAPPY that you like my silly lil FST Korra AU!!!!

Zukka shopping for the 3 sentence fic 👀👀
(whoops turns out that i actually will not be doing a lot these as 3 sentences bc i don't know when to stop lmfaooo)
"Sokka, seriously. Just pick one. I'd like to hit at least one of my stores before the mall closes."
"It's only two, we've got time," Sokka mutters distractedly, staring at the expanse of decorative journals in front of them. "And don't rush me. This is a very serious part of the process, Zuko. I need to find the one I vibe with. Studies show that there's a link between—"
Zuko just groans over Sokka's boring explanation and knocks one of their shopping bags against the back of his knee. "Can you vibe faster then? I'd also like to eat soon too, you know."
Sokka ignores him to rub his fingers against the front of a light-blue suede notebook, and Zuko huffs. Leaning heavily against Sokka's shoulder, he points a determined finger to the option right below it, a smaller dark plum journal.
"Go with that one," he says, and tries hard to not get lost in how nice Sokka smells from this close—or how Sokka inexplicably seems to instantly relax back against him. "There, mission accomplished. Can we go now?"
He says it partly as a joke; Zuko knows that Sokka can't be swayed once his mind is set on something, even with ridiculous things like picking the perfect journal for his poetry, but sometimes Sokka needs the reminder that things like time limits and Zuko's lack of patience still exist.
Except—instead of the usual scoffing or exasperated eye roll, Zuko is instead met with silence.
Sokka squints his eyes at the purple notebook, then glances over. "Really? What made you choose that one?"
The look on his face is almost—thoughtful, like he's been presented with pieces to a puzzle that he's determined to figure out, and Zuko freezes. It's a look that leaves him suddenly feeling far too exposed.
"Like, I'm not usually a purple guy," Sokka continues, sounding less confused and more interested as he studies the cover. He reaches out to pick up the notebook, forearm bumping against Zuko's wrist, and Zuko's finger falls as he takes a quick step back to put an appropriate amount of space between him and his friend. "Do I give off purple vibes?"
"It, uh—" he clears his throat, then has to do it again when Sokka closes the gap to lightly knock shoulders with him. "I don't know, that one just—it reminds me of you, is all."
The notebook had been randomly chosen as a joke, but—well, Zuko doesn't know much about the psychology of color theory or whatever it is Sokka likes to talk about. All he knows is what color red and blue together can make.
(He also knows that he's stupidly sentimental, much to his immense dismay.)
Sokka looks at him for a moment longer, then nods. "Okay, I can accept that. Thanks, dude. Maybe I'll write a dedication to you or something at the beginning for your help."
It's said offhandedly, like Sokka is teasing him per usual, but the sight of his unexpectedly shy smile as he holds onto the purple notebook makes Zuko feel like he's soaring.
#(after this they share a pretzel and zuko realizes that Oh this may be turning into a Date)#ngl liv in all honesty you might get another post bc i came up with an idea last night before remembering this is meant to be au's LMAO#enjoy <33#ask#my writing#zukka#zuko#sokka#got the ones scheduled for today! thank you to everyone who sent me prompts!!

zukka + sharing clothes !!!
“That’s... my shirt.”
“Hm?” Sokka hummed, looking up from his phone.
He found that Zuko was staring at him quizzically, brow furrowed and lips quirked up in amusement. “I said that’s my shirt.”
Sokka’s mouth fell open a little. “Oh. I guess it is.” He looked down at the band tee and smiled a little. “It’s cozy.”
“I think you should give it back,” Zuko suggested, stepping closer to the couch where Sokka was curled up.
“But what if I won’t want to?”
“Dire consequences will follow.”
Sokka whined. “There’s always a catch.”
Zuko flopped down next to him and pressed a kiss to his cheek, smiling. “Always when it comes to my clothes, babe.”
“So, what, are you gonna get back at me?”
“Maybe.”
“How?”
Zuko grinned and sunk deeper into the cushion. “Hey now, I don’t wanna lose the element of surprise.”
Sokka huffed, but still scooted closer.
•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
Roughly four days later, when Sokka walked into the apartment, he wandered to the kitchen so find Zuko nursing a cup of tea in a dark blue hoodie—his hoodie—with a smug look on his face.
“Zuko?”
“Yeah?”
“Is that...”
Zuko didn’t make eye contact as he tried for nonchalance. “Your favorite hoodie from last year’s music festival? Maybe.”
“Ah,” Sokka breathed, “is this your payback?”
“I don’t know. Is it?”
“It is.”
“Whatever you say.”
Sokka leaned against the counter, unable to conceal his fondness for the pettiness of Zuko’s actions. “Fine. Be like that. We’ll see how well it plays out for you.”
Zuko didn’t lose his smirk as he continued drinking his tea.
•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
After that, it was Zuko’s button down.
And after that, it was Sokka’s jeans.
And after that, it stopped being a competition and more of a ritual.
It wasn’t something they talked about a ton. It was one of those things that went almost unspoken about once they got into the rhythm of it. Zuko hadn’t even considered what other people might think until he was out at lunch with Katara and she took notice of his attire.
“Zuko?”
He looked up from his food. “Yeah?”
“Is that my brother’s jacket?”
Ah.
“Oh. Uh. Maybe.”
She gave him a look. “I know you two were going out, but I didn’t realize it was so... serious.”
“How, exactly, is sharing clothes a serious thing?”
“It’s—y’know!”
Zuko shook his head. “I legitimately have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Katara frowned. “Sharing clothes is something a serious couple does.” She leaned forward. “Are you and Sokka... serious?”
That question caught him off guard. He hadn’t really thought about it. Yes, he and Sokka had been going out. Yes, they’d become comfortable being affectionate outside of their formal dates. And yes, they stole each other’s clothes. A lot. And yes, they cuddles on he couch and kissed a ton and oh.
Well.
Were they serious?
“Uh,” Zuko breathed, “I’m gonna have to get back to you on that.”
•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
“I wanted to ask you something.”
Sokka was trying to make dinner (key word: trying) when Zuko brought it up.
“Uh, sure,” Sokka said, struggling to set the oven timer. “Shoot.”
Zuko cleared his throat. “Right. Um. It’s about us.”
“I sure hope this isn’t a break up,” Sokka joked, pressing the buttons in the oven in frustration.
Zuko exhaled a laugh. “No. I wanted to ask if we’re serious.”
“Serious?”
“Like, a serious couple.”
“Did my sister put you up to this?”
Zuko huffed. “No! Well, kind of, but not really. This is- look. Just answer me.”
Sokka laughed and leaned against the counter. “Well, if you wanna be, then yeah, we’re serious.” He thought for a moment. “If I may ask, how did this question come about?”
Zuko, slightly red in the face and a little jittery from the excitement of him and Sokka being serious, replied, “Katara said that sharing clothes is a thing serious couples do. So I was just. Curious.”
“Ah. I see. Well,” Sokka grinned deviously, “then we’re about to be really serious, because I’m stealing your nice button down tonight.”
“Hey, that’s my best shirt-”
“Mm, and it’ll look great on me. Thanks, babe!” Sokka ran out of the kitchen, laughing, leaving Zuko disoriented, a little annoyed, but mostly warm all over.
