One thing that genuinely astounds me is how certain people are under the impression that Aemma Arryn and Alicent Hightower are equal victims, who would comfort each other in the afterlife for what “big, bad” Viserys did to them.
As if Queen Aemma wouldn’t pull Alicent’s hair by its dark roots for what she did to her only daughter, Rhaenyra.
But seeing as how Alicent is in the Seven Hells, Aemma likely wouldn’t get her chance.

I was listening to 'Bloodlines will burn' because it's so beautifuly haunting and sad and I like torturing myself and then, I came across these pictures while listening
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.......😭 my beautiful queen! You did not deserve that! They caused her to lose something she always wanted - a daughter.
Look at her eyes in the first pic... 🙃🙃I'm fine. I'm fine. Why would I not be fine?
Visenya could've lived. She could've grown up to be a beautiful woman just like her mother. And she would've been a fierce dragon rider like her mother and father.
Daemon could've taught her High Valyrian and how to wield a sword.
Nyra would've loved dressing her up and doing her hair in the style of Old Valyria.
I know Jace, Luke, Joff would've adored her. They would chase her around the Painted Table and tickled her.
Baela and Rhaena would've been overjoyed to have another sister and girl in the family.
Baela would take her on a ride above Dragonstone on Moondancer.
Rhaena would've picked out the dragon egg that would lay in the crib of her little sister. Or maybe Rhaena would've given Visenya her own egg in the hope of it hatching and bonding with her.
Visenya was robbed of her life before it even started. She was robbed of knowing her parents and siblings. She was robbed of their love. And they were robbed of hers.
I will forever hold a grudge against TG, just for causing Nyra's miscarriage, not including all the other horrible shit they did to Rhaenyra and how they've treated her for years.

of course it’s an alicent profile pic saying this shit:
Tumblr media
the thing is, i would’ve agreed with the original sentiment of this post if it wasn’t for the tags, but then this person goes mask off and proves to me that they were only pretending to offer meaningful criticism.
cause all i see in these tags is buzzword 🗣️🗣️ buzzword 🗣️🗣️ buzzword 🗣️🗣️
i just wanna know, why are the targaryens always singled out as the house that ‘regularly cannibalizes its own?’
these don’t exist ig: the she-wolves of winterfell, the current lannisters, and literally every House ever.
why are the targaryens held to such an unfair standard? and why are they held responsible for the sins of their ancestors?
it is literally so funny. but like… in an astonishing kind of way.
in these tags there’s no objective language used 🙅‍♀️ no care for nuance 🙅‍♀️ and no meaningful interaction with the main themes of the series 🙅‍♀️
OP kind of tries to pretend, but it’s all surface level shit. it’s clear that they’re blinded by their hatred of the targs and dany.
because george never holds things his characters can’t control against them. what a character should be judged by is their actions, and imo, that’s what george writes about: how individual characters actions and choices can shape the world around them (bonus if the character is a cripple, bastard, or broken thing and is trying to protect others); and he also puts a lot of emphasis on a characters intentions and how they come to their decisions, which gets us his famous ‘human heart in conflict with itself’ thesis statement.
george, someone who’s interested in the choices of the individual and how they get there, clearly thinks it’s important to showcase how different characters handle great power, otherwise he wouldn’t have so many POV characters in positions of such great importance.
on that note, asoiaf isn’t an anti-monarchy piece. you could easily claim that it’s a criticism of systematic oppression, systematic violence, corrupt institutions, and unbalanced social structures; it’s a sort of think piece on how people in positions of power destroy the lives of the common in their petty fights of greed and ambition, all whilst ignoring the incoming humanity ending threat.
and through this thought process, you get the title of the first book: a game of thrones. the political shifts are a game for these powerful people, and this motif is one of the most important statements to understand in order to interact with the series discussion on what it means to be a good ruler. this motif also comes up in a conversation jorah and dany have about the smallfolk: “It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace. They never are.” it’s high lords, not royals. it’s a critique of the whole social structure and political system, not a criticism of one family.
so, if you’re of this belief that petty power disputes are dumb and are angry that most high lords don’t give a shit about their subjects, then you should love daenerys, who’s one of the few characters who’s using her power to make lasting societal change.
now, is she perfect? no. no she’s not. cause she’s a teenage girl trying to take down a slave trade that’s been around for thousands of years (hilarious that she’s actually fixing the mistakes of her ancestors…). but dany is learning and is doing her best to get better and is trying to empower the powerless. that sets her apart from almost every other ruler in asoiaf and makes her one of the most important POVs in this book series quest to find out what makes a good ruler. something something gods make kings and queens to protect those who can’t protect themselves…
with that in mind, i agree that the conclusion of the series won’t be a character sitting on a throne because of their blood or because of some divine right mumbo jumbo. imo, a character will only sit on a throne if they’ve been smart, gained allies, formed alliances, have control of an army, have gained loyalty from the people they wish to rule, have been honorable, maybe have a dragon or three, and are a hero.
dany has checked off almost all the boxes, so i think it’s safe to root for her. and considering the foreshadowing, i think it’s logical to guess that peace will be ushered in, even if it’s a hard won peace. and what’s wrong with believing that daenerys will be one of the ones who helps usher in this peace after all the work she’s done to protect those who don’t have the power to protect themselves?

probably the best evidence i have for the idea that sansa will be a queen in some capacity by the time the asoiaf series ends is the fact that westeros has never had a canon-confirmed redheaded queen and i just don't think that george rr martin (both r's stand for "redhead appreciator" btw) would do that unless he was going to make a redhead queen in the books

Nesta Week 2024, day 1: Queen of queens
so today i wrote this short drabble for Nesta week, and i hope y'all like it ♡
aprox. under 500 words ♡
@nestaarcheronweek
The bells started ringing and Nesta knew it was time – so she looked over the plains of her dress once more and then she was out of the tent, following the path laid out before her. The path she was meant to conquer – the wind whispered in agreement with the ground beneath her feet, and it seemed like an answer to the call of steel, now awaiting her arrival at the ceremony.
She moved between bright torches and she wasn't nervous at all – the stress disappeared as soon as she saw the surroundings. Her land — the one she had bled for, the one which chose her as it's ruler, the one which shall become a shelter for her people. A new beginning.
And so there Nesta has found herself – standing at the top of a hill, their set up camp behind her and a clearing in front of her, with every warrior soul who had decided to follow her here. And in the middle of it all – a quiet song only she could hear – laid Gwydion, Truthteller, Atharaxia and her made dagger, which had yet to be named. Her heart beckoned her to race toward the blades, but she only regained her composure, stilling her mind, and started slowly making her way down.
She could feel magic rushing through her – starting from the soil, making it's way up and up, and then finally flowing in loose strands of her braided hair only to be gone with the wind. It was welcoming – as if the territory has already started to flourish in her short time staying there.
When Nesta reached the meadow each and every whisper shut down. Our queen has come – their faces seemed to say, and so they bowed. Not in fear, nor because they had to — only because they had belived her once and have never stopped since. Because she'd led them to victory and became the ruler they wanted to follow.
She felt so honoured and prideful that it was almost overwhelming. Everything felt new and huge – but she was a rock in the midst of a violent sea and she won't shatter, nor yield. Never again.
So when she kneeled down in front of the swords and the daggers, she was sure. Sure of the vow to her court and it's people. Sure of the vow to herself. Sure of the vow to the whole world.
And she was sure of the crown – made of white gold, with some egdes sharp as knives, while others were delicate like feathers – now sitting atop her head, just where it belonged.

I’ve said it once and it seems it needs to be repeated:
The Blacks are a family.
The Greens are a political alliance.
If you take a look at the Greens’ dynamic, there is a lot of individuality and self-serving interests:
1. Otto Hightower only cares about putting his own blood on the Iron Throne. He pimped out his daughter, and he used his great-grandson’s death for shameless political propaganda. He would sacrifice anyone in his “family” to get ahead.
I laugh every time TG stans compare him to Corlys Velaryon. Corlys was ambitious as well, but he had limits, and he was more than willing to put his family first, unlike Otto. After Rhaenyra’s death, Corlys put aside any personal aspirations for the Iron Throne, to ensure that Rhaenyra’s son ascends the throne, as the rightful King.
2. Alicent Hightower is a greedy upstart, who uses her children for her own personal ambitions (and vendetta against Rhaenyra).
3. Aemond doesn’t have an ounce of loyalty in his blood, and was more than willing to usurp his own brother. Everything he did in the war, he did for himself.
4. Helaena is never depicted as being close to her mother’s family. She loved her children and spent more time with them, as well as with her father, Viserys. The Greens used her as their personal broodmare and after she died, they were quick to try to replace her.
5. Aegon doesn’t give a damn about anything. He doesn’t want any responsibility. All he wants is to drink and hump.
6. Criston Cole only cares about sucking up to Alicent, and doing everything in his power to destroy Rhaenyra’s life, because he’s a spiteful turd. And he doesn’t realize that the Hightowers are only using his skills and fueling his hatred for their own personal interests. The idiot actually thinks he’s one of them, when he’s actually just a guard dog.
7. Daeron: everyone forgets his existence.
You call this a family?
The Blacks are united for a common cause: place the rightful Queen on the Iron Throne & put an end to injustice and usurpers.

okay ive been brainrotting about them for a while soooo imma make a post where i ramble!
my children are Blazetalon/Blazebright (she/they), the orange tabby, Goldfire (she/her), the golden-ish cat with the scar between her eyes, and Dreamchaser (he/they), the dilute calico tabby with a scar over one of his eyes.
Goldfire and Blazetalon are childhood friends, as they both grew up in the same family unit in IceClan. Blazetalon was found abandoned as a kit, and Goldfire's mother, Goldenstream, had recently lost a kit, so Goldenstream decided she would care for Blazetalon as one of her own considering they were around the same age as her kits. So Goldfire and Blazetalon were a bit of a slowburn ("a bit," hahahaha) with both believing they saw the other as a sibling until eventually they both realized that wasn't true.
Dreamchaser first met Goldfire at a gathering, a couple of moons after she became an apprentice. They became friends pretty quickly, Dreamchaser developed a crush about halfway through their apprenticeships but Goldfire was Oblivious tm cuz she'd just broken up with her previous gf :( But Dreamchaser drinks his Respect Women juice so he doesn't try to push anything on her and is content with them being friends for the time being (esp since they're from different Clans, though my Clans are a bit more lax about cross-Clan relationships than canon)
Once they become warriors, Dreamchaser and Blazetalon become friends as well- and while there's a bit of mutual attraction, Blazetalon is already kinda-together with Goldfire's brother, Blackface (who would most definitely not be okay with polyamory) and also Goldfire was finally starting to show reciprocation for Dreamchaser's affections so nothing really comes of it (yet)
Then a lot of shit happens, Dreamchaser leaves MoonClan after a lot of Internal Politics (leader dies and deputy is disgraced, rando who Is Not Fit For Leadership takes over) so he nope's out of there to join IceClan (and if he can finally be with the cat he loves, it's even better!) Goldfire and Dreamchaser finally become Officially Mates, but shortly after their kits (Eclipseheart, Elkdapple, and Eveningshade) become warriors, Elkdapple gets murderized and just a moon later, Heronfur, Dreamchaser's rival for the position of deputy, kills Dreamchaser.
Goldfire goes into an almost-depressive state, even though she's been appointed deputy by Blazetalon (who is now Blazebright because StarClan don't exist here) Blazebright (who broke up with Blackface after he left to join FlameClan for. reasons.) helps her heal, then they realize "wait i was in love with you this whole time. whoops." and they get together yayyy <3
and then Blazebright dies in battle so Goldfire is leader, but at this point she's like... slightly over middle-aged? so she doesn't have much time left unfrotunately :(
Then when Goldfire dies (a peaceful death, the girl has suffered enough) she joins Dreamchaser and Blazetalon in the afterlife! she doesn't want to have to choose because she loves them both, then Dream and Blaze reveal that they love both her and each other so the three of them "live" out their afterlives as a wholesome polycule in cat heaven forever and ever <3

FINALLY watched Ready Or Not (2019) with the fam and FUCCCCKKKKKK FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT WHEN WOMEN ARE COVERED IN BLOOD AND FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES TOOTH AND NAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL FUCKING YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#ramblings of a lunatic#it is. dare i say underrated? like I genuinely think it's so good but i feel like it's left out of discussions on modern slashers#yeah it's not THE MOST depthful piece it's not a jordan peele movie but it's still got it's moments (''FUCKING RICH PEOPLE!'')#idk maybe it's just bc it doesn't have one particular killer and that's what most slasher fandom revolves around far as i can tell#i can't say anything I'm boring I'm a big final girl stan#I've only seen one scream and went into it only knowing that my friends really liked the killers in that movie#and i was like yeah they're neat but mostly i came away screaming SIDNEY!!!!! FUCKING SIDNEY PRESCOTT LET'S GOOOOO!!!#(note i have only seen 1 scream movie. also i know there's a lot of complicated scholarly discussions to be had abt scream-#-and it's depictions of two close male killers as like. a deviant homosexuality thing and how that eclipses-#-the parts of scream that are arguably feminist. that's a whole other can of worms. i did really love Sydney tho)#i love grace too a-tier final girl. Samara Weaving is a scream queen in my heart she's so good in the role#my only complaint is i would've put a sort of. Up (2009) married life esque scene w/ Grace and Alex getting to know each other#but i get that that's a hard sell to put off and also in the context of the film grace and alex haven't known each other that long#which works directly against the biggest strength of the married life sequence#so honestly I'm not fussed#anyway yeah. fun time! even my mom enjoyed it despite the fact she normally doesn't like gore
