#SP The Fractured But Whole

I’ve talked about Stan Marsh the Animal Lover before and how much I enjoy that side of his character. I love that even after You’re Getting Old and Ass Burgers, where he is in a depressive, careless state, he still finds it in himself to love and take care of animals. These screenshots from The Fractured but Whole really heal something in me:

Look at how happy he is with the kitty, his little hand around the animal and his big, toothy grin. He looks genuinely happy here.

Also this screenshot of him protesting animal testing:

He looks so sad and hurt at the prospect of these animals getting hurt. His frown, his eyes, his hand reaching out. Reminder that Stan is canonically an animal rights activist and eco terrorist, he’s not just talk when it comes to this.

It’s lovely to see this side of him alive and well, especially because I do believe that deep down Stan still cares and values things despite saying he doesn’t, that’s why he’s still close to Wendy and Kyle. These are two characters who are so passionate and angry and have such a moralistic side to them it’s crazy, they care so much about so many things and Stan being close to both of them shows that he does still care and appreciates people who care. He wants these people around him, to ground him and remind him of what’s important even when things seem dire.

What I really appreciate about Stan Marsh is how much he absolutely loves animals. He is not just an animal lover in the passive sense like a lot of people are, not someone who only seems to care about domesticated animals that are seen as “traditional pets” like cats and dogs, his love extends to all animals. He is really about it, with his longest list of crimes falling into “eco-terrorism.” He’ll steal a bunch of baby cows and participate in a sit in, in order to ensure their liberation (“Fun with Veal”), he’ll bomb ships and attack people when they kill whales and dolphins (all for the love of the animals, not caring about the clout that it brings him, as can be seen in “Whale Whores”) and he’ll refuse to shoot wildlife even though he wants to connect with his uncle, because he is unable to kill an animal (“Volcano”). And even after Stan turns cynical, even after he has to deal with depression, addiction and the reality that he doesn’t care about things the way he used to (“You’re Getting Old” and “Ass Burgers”) Stan still finds it in himself to care about animals. That part of him doesn’t go away or turn cynical, he still posts selfies with cats and talks about how cruel animal testing is and how it should be stopped. His cynicism didn’t get him completely, he still cares deeply about things and his love for animals is an example of that.

Time Sensitive Post

Ok, South Park side of Tumblr, I need your help. I am playing South Park: The Fractured But Whole. I am doing the the yaoi side quest, but I have a problem. I am at the point where Mitch Connor is mayor, so the city hall is locked. I need to get into city hall because I didn’t get a piece of yaoi in there, but I don’t know how. Is there a way for me to get in there still, or do I have to restart from the beginning of the game to do this side quest?

Note: I do not have any saves before that point as I did not know I was going to be locked out, so I can’t load an old save. Also I’m playing on the Switch.

I am so disappointed about snow day, dude. Like I played the previous games for 9 hours straight, every day, for nearly a week, when I was actually supposed to be studying for my English final exam, but I genuinely wasn’t able to play snow day for longer than 30 minutes. Also I still can’t seem to figure out how to actually hit anybody with ranged attacks, and I don’t know if that’s just because my aim sucks donkey butt or if it’s the game’s fault… should I give up on the game or does it get better?
