Angel Dust has a clear validation problem.
I had been thinking about this ever since episode 2 and episode 6 all but segmented this onto my subconscious.
Angel clearly doesn't care whenever anyone slut shames or just overall insult him- he lives to get a rise out of people. Hell, Hazbin Hotel's VERY FIRST SCENE on the Pilot was him going full "oh yeah slut, very creative." And going after Travis life- but not on a insecure way, he very clearly didn't care. Fast forward to the actual show and it's more of the same- he doesn't care whenever Vaggie or Husk or anyone else threaten him because he enjoys the chaos and it's open about the fact he is only there to no pay rent. He just doesn't care about what others think of him.
Except.... When he does.
You see it's interesting because back on that origin comic (that I don't even know if it's canon anymore but for a characterization point I'll take it.) when Charlie states they need a quest and even pays him for his time (Angel was working on the street when they meet him) and she goes full "this is an investment, on you." He leaves the limo all "oh...ok....sure...." Clearly moved or touched by her faith in him, even though he still thinks it's misguided trust.
Back to episode 2, it's pretty much the anthesis of this. For once, someone else seems interested on changing his ways and THAT obviously excites Charlie, who referred to Sir Pen as "the hotel's first real quest" now to be fair with her, Angel is very vocal about how he thinks the Hotel is BS and hadn't show any intention to change his ways soon- but y'know that still must stings like it hasn't even been a week and this girl that is all sunshine and rainbows already gave up on him lmao but it gets even worse- on the roleplay thing, look at the fucking role he is giving- A CRACKHEAD- like he had to pause before saying that shit- and to rub salt on the wound, Sor Pen performance ends with the "no sex before marriage!" Line. Like out of all sins one could commit- you pick Addiction to Drugs (more specifically CRACK) and Sex. Yo girl what the fuck- and ofc, only Sir Pen gets congratulated, because Angel was critical of the whole thing and the former was full on enthusiastic about it- the last shot before the bedroom scene we get us Angel staring at Charlie validating Sir Pen's efforts and how he is going to be redeemed so fast before Angel sadly goes upstairs.
Now the room scene..... Yikes. The fact that the roleplay was all and on about the drugs thing and how the last voicemail/Angel's imagination? Things we heard it's "Addict trash like you doesn't change"... Hahaha all the yikes with that fucking roleplay. So yeah it's very fucking clear from the get go Angel has....issues. Hell even after "It starts with Sorry" when everyone goes back to sleep he doesn't looks happy, just resigned lmao
(Which it's funny because on the very next episode he saves Sir Pen from the war thing going down but I digress)
Now episode 4- oh MAN where do I even start. Now remember how in the first paragraph I mentioned how Angel disses Travis but like, in a confident way? Not on the way someone affected would react? Well this ep is everything but that lmao "I don't give a shit about what a drunk ass bartender thinks of me" reeks of insecurity by the tone alone I am sorry. Notice how he looks very taken aback when Husk calls his act out before he doubles down and goes full "I am actor dumbass" bit. Man's defenses were penetrated in a way it hasn't before and he needed a moment to put more bs out of his ass because God forbid someone in this Hotel knows how horrible his life is and how much he hates himself- and then his advances were thoroughly rejected for good ("It's never gonna work on me") and he absolutely losses it. Not being able to compute that someone that clearly stared at him long enough to read him, doesn't want to fuck him. Disgusts from people that barely knows him he can take- being told to his face it's not working, he can't. And it's not even because he particularly want to fuck anyone there- that is how he sees his own worth. He makes Val money, everyone around wants to take him, his services are apparently FAR from cheap ("you know how much I am WORTH?!") and he had based his whole self worth around it- no matter how many times he gets taken advantage of on a random club on 3am or if is his own fucking abuser (he literally only opened Val's voicemails after the whole ep2 fiasco) people either despises him because of his overt sexuality or want to use him for it (there is also the middle road where his worse habits are enabled and that makes him 'fun' company- but I'll be there in a min) there just can't be a reality where he is told to his face that he is destroying himself and any connection he can have WITHOUT the alterior motive of wanting to fuck him- right? I mean even Charlie's hope on him was proven to be limited, so why bother?
Enter Loser, Baby.
And yes, my beloved Huskerdust atem- you see there is something fucked up about it. Angel only joins in to sing as well after he goes full "I am a hoe that likes drugs tehee" but unlike always, he is...not proud of it. He only sings about it because Husk sang how "it's ok to be a-" like expecting a negative, and it's ONLY when Husk completes it with a "Baby that is fine by me" does Angel truly smiles. He just had a whole breakdown, he doesn't has the energy to put his facade and his "I don't care what you think" actitude. But because Husk validates that he is able to follow along.
There is also the "This guy it's not that bad" part. Angel softened up at that because, again, Husk validated him- the real him. He saw through his facade and embraced it.
In episode 5 there is this little scene where Charlie is talking to her father over the phone and everyone else is silently supporting her from behind. And Angel, the ever realist- is just....grimacing through the whole thing lmao but to his credit seemed to support her regardless- but what cought my eye through the whole thing is that when Charlie goes full "Dad, this is important to me!" The camera focus on Angel a bit....touched? See the scene you'll get what I mean.
Then episode 6 came along. Cherrie comes along, and her and Husk play devil and angel on Anthony's shoulder the whole night. But there is something interesting about this- Angel never.... really stops Cherrie, nor explain why he would avoid drugs- Husk does. He ONLY explains himself when Cherrie confronted him about being so protective of Nifty. When Cherrie offer him the pills he doesn't goes full "I am sober now" cut and dry, instead he goes full "er....I dunno, I am tired. Maybe another time?" after Husk does the whole "I thought you were better than that" bit. Cherrie enables Angel- she clearly CARES about him, there is not doubt about that- but Hell is made with good intentions, validating his excesses and taking an active part on it is how they bond- and how his relationship with her makes him feel a bit better about himself, even when at the end of day it all comes crashing down (hello end of Addicted) and what is the first THING he smiles at after his confrontation with Valentino? "You did good, kid".
Ao in synthesis, Angel craves for validation in all and any way he can get it- regardless of how good the intentions of those giving it are. It either can be an validitation of his usual behavior (Cherrie) an validation of him wanting to better himself (Charlie, Husk) or just.... validation of his body as a whole (those weird sharks he ran to at ep4) it really depends of how much his mental state is on the gutter that day.
And then there is Valentino.
It's clear Angel's self Worth issues are not much better thanks to the way he is treated in and out of the studio- but, and knowing his familial relationship, it's doubtful they CAME from there, and it was an unfortunate result of it.
Valentino and the Vees pray on the vulnerable- that was DIRECTLY stated at ep2, and what is more vulnerable that a drug addict whose own family rejected? Sure Angel had been on Hell for a WHILE but his foundation was already shaky to begin with, he is street smart and posseses more common sense that some of his peers (literally the only one that stated they SHOULDN'T bring every psycho that tries to kill them to the Hotel lmao) but this need for Validation running deep on his core makes him the ideal pray for any asshole that is willing to drop a few "oh you are so pretty 💜"s his way until it's too late. How tragic would it be- to have the first person that validated him in a WHILE be the one that hurt him the most.
#i dunno where the fuck this came from. its just did#hazbin hotel#angel dust#huskerdust#ish#it still counts#because Husk:s validation of Angel is like the backbone of their ship a d it actually started

Judging Obey me! Brothers bedrooms/hcs cause why not
——————————————————————————
Lucifer:
• freakishly neat
• like you know those people that are so perfect/symmetrical that they’re almost scary, that’s his room
• type of guy to say “ah i was just tidying up, this place is such a mess!” and one thing on his desk is moved a centimeter to the left
• satan and belphie definitely come in there sometimes and move everything off by an inch
• it fucking enrages him
• he gets on the brothers asses to clean their rooms
• they don’t listen
• at most, if he’s drunk or had a really long day he might leave his clothes on the floor or his toothbrush out
• he’s such an old man he’d be doing math equations to fold his fucking sheets exactly
• really though, i feel like it’s a total control thing
• i mean my dudes entire life is out of his control, a pride demon, who’s very about control
• his brothers don’t really listen to him, he’s indebted to diavolo, etc.
• i think it probably brings him a lot of comfort to have one controlled space for himself, where he knows where everything is and has everything how he wants it
• sorry got a little deep but yk
• also???? the skeleton dude??????
• like i love him he’s iconic BUT WHY LMAO
• imagine you wake up in the middle of the night AND IT FUCKING MOVES
• nah i’d be packing my bags and staying at purgatory hall for the rest of the week thank you!
• coming back with a bible and some holy water
——————————————————————————
Mammon:
• complete and utter 180
• his room is such a mess it’s a problem
• plates, glasses, ramen cups, wrappers, all over his nightstand and floor
• when the garbage is going out he’ll come down the stairs balancing so much trash he could make a goddamn acrobat jealous😭
• only thing that’s truly spotless is his car
• if you nag him enough he’ll clean up a bit though, though definitely complain
• clothes are a whole other thing, he has an insane amount of clothing, not more than asmo, but a genuinely absurd amount
• because of this, his floor is always covered in clothes
• his room is probably one of the messiest, rivaled only by belphie
• but mammon definitely wins by a long shot
• the biggest reason his rooms a mess is just cause of the pure amount of stuff he has
• bros a grade A hoarder, he’s got stuff in there you didn’t even think existed
• he also just,, isn’t in his room super often
• he likes going out and doing stuff, plus he’s usually working jobs + modeling to fund his spending
• and if he’s not, then he’s probably in mc’s room so it makes sense he doesn’t care as much
• his bathroom though…is surprisingly clean
•on the surface at least
• he’s got a shit ton of skincare and hygiene products, some makeup too (definitelyyy not stolen from asmo)
• he’s a model so he definitely takes good care of himself
• though..i don’t think he’d ever deep clean his bathroom, or know to, if you asked him he’d be like “what no?? the sink cleans itself with the water!”💀
——————————————————————————
Levi:
• his room really isn’t all that dirty
• i mean he’s in there all the time so it’s at the very least habitable
• his biggest issue is really just having a bunch of dirty dishes he’s too “busy” to take down to the kitchen
• his idea of busy is being huddled up in blankets watching season 3 of “I’m a generic anime protagonist who just met a really pretty girl at school but i’m painfully socially awkward and then i find out she’s my childhood friend who moved away???”
• his figures though…
• shockingly well taken care of, like he’s literally the perfect owner he cleans and dusts them obsessively
• if anyone touches them, he knows.
• he has them positioned in a very specific way, he’s able to notice even the slightest discrepancy
• he’s a really good caretaker to the things he cares about
• henry 2.0 for example, his tank is always spotless, he’s well fed and treated very well.
• levi is also very hygienic, he takes good care of himself too generally,
• though he sometimes needs to be reminded to eat, drink, sleep, etc. cause of a new anime or game coming out
•when that happens he’s even more holed up in his room, if he’s close with the mc he might drag them with him, prepare yourself to be trapped in there
• his setup is godly, i don’t know much about pc building but i know he has the good shit
• you’ve seen his room, bro has 4 monitors WHO NEEDS THAT MANY?!?!?!?
• got the mic with the pop filter too you know he’s absolutely violating the other people in the cod lobby
——————————————————————————
Satan:
• messy, but not dirty
• cluttered would probably be the best word
• his main issue is just his INSANE amount of books and cat hair…lots of cat hair.
• when he’s fostering a cat his bed is covered in the stuff it’s horrible
• the cat may be cute but the full sized scarf you can make out of its hair sure isn’t!
• you better hope your mc isn’t allergic cause you literally won’t be able to enter his room if you are
• not to say he doesn’t clean it, cause he does, he has that sticky rolly thingy
•but i swear to god it’s like it’s glitter THERES ALWAYS MORE😭😭
• his books are a fucking hazard
• cause why are the stacks so high and so close to his bed💀
• i know for a fact they’ve collapsed on him while he was sleeping
• multiple times
• he’s learned not to keep any cursed books in the stacks by his bed as a result of this
• also with that fucking candle right there???????
• bro has no self preservation skills apparently
——————————————————————————
Asmo:
• goes without saying, he’s neat
• not a clean freak like lucifer, but he likes to have everything in order to make his life easier
• his makeup and skincare especially, he has a mini fridge for it and all
• an absurd amount of perfume too, his room is like a bath and body works but with more high end stuff
• this extends to his bags too, if your out or at RAD and need perfume he’s gonna pull out like 6 and be like “take your pick!”
• but back to his room, his room smells so fucking good
• it also just has a really calming energy, it’s very comfy
• he’s strict though, no outside clothes on his bed, shoes off at the door, etc. etc.
• there’s usually a lot of bags around from his shopping sprees
• type of dude to have a white noise machine or something when he sleeps just get that vibe from him
• another clutter guy, his room is one of the best with cleanliness, but there’s lots of stuff in his room, it’s cute though, he pulls it off
• i really don’t have any complaints about his room at all, it’s cute and clean so he gets a pass
——————————————————————————
Beel:
•hmmm
•i’m putting beel and belphie’s separate cause i’m criticizing their separate sides
• he’s not overly clean but not overly dirty either
• his room really is a perfect limbo
• except for his bed
• his bed is fucking disgusting
• i just know theres crumbs EVERYWHERE
• you lie in his bed and it makes a fucking crunch sound
• okay joking he’s not that nasty, i’m sure he’d probably change his sheets frequently
• if for no other reason, cause of belphie getting annoyed at him cause his beds uncomfy to lay on
• but with all the midnight snacking he does i would not be surprised if he brought half the fridge back with him at night
• his room itself i’m thinking is pretty clean, probably some clothes on the floor etc, but he never lets it get too bad
• unlike some people (i am staring directly at mammon and belphie)
• when he has his midnight escapades he pretty much always brings the dishes back in the morning so it’s not a huge problem.
——————————————————————————
Belphie:
• clothes everywhere
• him and mammon definitely are the worst offenders
• but listen he probably doesn’t let it get nearly as bad as mammons cause of him trying to be considerate of beel
• but if he was in a room alone…good god
• he just simply doesn’t have the energy to put shit away
• some things will sit on his floor for weeks, months, years, decades, before he moves it
• a lot of the time it winds up being beel who grabs his stuff and puts it where it’s supposed to be
• this is why he’s such a brat, always getting spoiled smh
• his bed though..
• the most comfortable thing you will ever have the privilege of laying on
• there’s so many blankets and a shitload of pillows, it smells good, ur instantly so warm and comfy and the mattress is so soft you literally sink into it
• it feels like you’re literally on a cloud you’ll never find a better sleeping spot
• no wonder he never wants to get up
• i cant help but think that the twins room is a little boring, so it’s hard to give a lot of commentary on it
• i wish there was more personality like with the other bedrooms in the HOL
• seriously though they gave them the 2017 opposite twins sims 4 speedbuild delux😭

As fellow member of the Church of Boba Fett ♥ May I please have anything for the song 'Sunflower' - Post Malone.
Can be of Boba, can be anyone. No context (even tho I break this rule a lot lmao), any style, any pair, can be a wip, or just write it as you feel it, hear it, vibe to it. Anything. Go! ♥
*casually vibes* ♥
GAAHH my Boba bestie this took far too long to answer, and I am SO sorry you had to wait! Just had a death in the family so I had to take some time away to process. But I’m back with a lovely one shot that I had a blast writing!
The Church of Boba Fett needs as much content of our beloved green tin can man as possible, and I hope this was worth the wait 💚🖤
Boba Fett knew you wanted him.
It wasn’t a matter of an overly inflated ego on his part or a lack of obvious flirtation on yours. To put it simply, you were pure sunlight, something brilliant and blazing in his often bloodstained world of crime and order. Something untarnished by the very violence he’d been born into.
The violence he’d committed.
It wasn’t even so simple to say he didn’t deserve you. Yes, that would be true, however dramatic a statement in his opinion, but there was something else. Something that itched in the back of his brain even as he watched you from atop his throne, seated near the back of the room, engaged in conversation with several people who, from his perspective, would easily kill you for the right price.
He cared for you, truly, truly cared. And Boba knew that logically, the best way to protect you was either to send you away, or claim you as his own. None would dare lay a finger on you if you were his. He’d ensure it.
But still, he hesitated.
At the end of the day, it was a simple truth. A manacle over the proverbial ankle, truths clamping down to tight they might as well have choked him.
You were fiery, passionate. Full of vigor and sparks, so capable. But you were also innocent. Untouched by the bloodshed he knew like breathing. And he could not, in good conscience, pull you into a world you were never meant to be a part of.
He sighed, his breath hot and weighty on his lips. His armor suddenly felt too heavy on his chest. Even heavier as the hours bled to the evening, visitors finally slipping out of the throne room for the evening. But not you - as stubborn as Fennec in so many ways, who made her point quite painfully made via a raised eyebrow, followed by a smirk, then her final wink as she left the room.
Boba was very grateful for his helmet when you stood, shyly ambling toward his throne under the guise of cleaning, nimble fingers picking up pieces of trash that littered the ground. For some reason it made him angry. You were too pretty to lower yourself so.
Damn it. He was too attached.
“Don’t worry about that, mesh’la.” His voice cut through the room, tone a tad harsher than he’d intended. “Leave it for the droids.”
You blinked, finally looking up at him, then glancing away in an unsuccessful attempt to hide your blush. Stars, you were like a sunflower. Radiant, ethereal, and too perfect for his broken hands to sully.
“Okay,” you dipped your head in acknowledgment, still hovering on no move feet, as if waiting for something. Disguising with with a nervous dusting of the throne’s steps.
Words hovered unspoken, thick as the tension in the air. Worry wove into your brows like a sudden change of weather, tension of an oncoming storm. Did you think he wasn’t interested? How could he let you down easy? Tell you that he was interested, but…
But, what?
Kriffing damn it. Boba Fett was afraid. Afraid of hurting you, of marring your sunshine. Of not being good enough for you.
“Well, it’s getting late. If you need anything, just let me know.” You dipped your head in a goodbye that came across too hasty, clothing rustling as you went to flee.
The sight made everything in Boba revolt.
“Wait.” The word slipped from his mouth before he could stop himself. You spun on your heels, expression undeniably hopeful. Oh gods, this was too much. “We need to talk, little one.”
You blushed at the moniker, but swallowed hard as you approached.
“I…”
“You don’t have to do this.” You cut him off with surprising bravado, hands clenched at your sides until they were shaking. “You don’t have to let me down easy. I’m not stupid, neither are you. Look, I appreciate everything you’ve done: letting me work here, protecting me, giving me a chance to get back on my feet. Nothing has to change. I’m…used to it.”
Boba blinked behind his helmet, shock rippling through him like a tidal wave. Stars, she was more perceptive than he thought. There was a strength to her he hadn’t previously seen, and also…an old wound. Maker, he’d been a kriffing jerk.
“What,” he kept his tone soft, lacking the harsh edge it normally carried. “Are you used to?”
It was your turn to blink. Clearly, you weren’t expecting the question.
“I…” you nervously crossed your arms, chewing the inside of your cheek. “I’m…used to…being ignored. People don’t look at me and see someone worth pursuing. Just,” you looked up, meeting his unseen gaze, “well, just someone who is useful. And that’s okay, you know. I’m happy here, truly, and I don’t need anything else other than-“
“Easy there,” he gently interrupted your rambling, the words softer than even he thought possible. You blinked again, but pointedly refused to meet his gaze. “Look at me, sweet girl.”
After a moment’s hesitation, you obeyed, and something in him constricted in pain when he saw the tears forming in your eyes. Boba chose his next words carefully.
“I‘ve never ignored you. Always noticed your smile.” He removed his helmet with a sigh, meeting your gaze with his own. “You deserve someone as bright and lovely as you - someone who can usher you into new depths of love and happiness. I’m broken, scarred, a killer…”
“You think that would stop me?” Your voice was surprisingly strong despite the tear that slipped down your cheek. “You think I haven’t already thought of that? Boba…I know who you are. What you are. And that’s why…I find you so endearing. Why I want to be with you.”
You thought him endearing? Boba could barely believe it, if not for the sincerity in your tone. He fell silent, pondering your words, and you stood there, braving his silence, wiping the tear away with a trembling finger.
Finally, at long last, Boba caved. He couldn’t hold back any longer, or deny you what he felt you both knew to be true. And he’d left you waiting long enough.
“Come here, little one,” he held out an arm like a white flag, and you didn’t hesitate to approach. He guided you onto his lap, holding you close against his chest, and felt you relax against him. “This okay?”
You nodded eagerly, curling closer, fingers clutching the fabric at his shoulder.
“I want you, mesh’la.” His voice was a low rumble as he caressed your cheek, making you shiver. “If you’ll have me.”
“I want you too,” your affirmation was like a song in his ears. “I want to be yours. Only yours.”
“Then you will be mine, little sunflower.” He ran a hand though your hair, then your jaw, fingertips lingering on your chin and lifting your lips to his. “Always.”

hello aci, critically important midnight lore question. what are everyones (mumbo, scar, grian, and anyone else you would like) favorite chores to do? (cooking, laundry, dishes, etc) and what chores (if any) would they rather dive into life threatening danger to avoid? on the off chance this is a repeat question sorry orz
Hi Chel!! <3
Oh this is a fun question :o Hmmm
Scar likes cooking, as we know by now, and would rather punt himself into the sun than do laundry (technology is pretty set back in this world so most laundry is done by hand, which Scar despises, but redstone machines are notorious for the redstone failing if the machine gets wet so redstone washers are generally seen as absolute rubbish). He hates how his hands get all pruney and go numb and afterwards they're all dry and stuff from the detergents and he ALWAYS manages to burn himself on the iron when ironing the clothes and he just despises laundry, really...
Mumbo enjoys dusting and sweeping/mopping and organizing things- he finds it calming and gives him time to think- but would rather set himself on fire than put his hands in dishwater. (He is determined to design and make a dishwasher that won't destroy the redstone components but everyone knows redstone + water is usually disastrous...) Dishwater is yucky, we all know this, but he's loathe to waste water by keeping the tap running.
Grian actually likes laundry- his talons means less wrinkly prune-feeling and his talons don't go numb from running the clothes across a washboard, and he likes the sound it makes. Because laundry's a long process at this point (again, pre-machinery, electricity is still relatively new in this world and redstone + water = bad) he likes to do it at a time when Mumbo is still asleep and Scar is either also asleep or working. Unlike Scar and Mumbo, he actually doesn't mind any chores- as long as he's not the only one doing them. Unless it's laundry, he will actively shoo the others away from laundry. It's the one chore he thoroughly enjoys. (Luckily Mumbo isn't overly attached to laundry bc the moment Grian moved in he took over LMAO)
Mmm as for others... Tubbo doesn't like doing ANY chores, but if he had to pick one it'd be taking out the trash- quick and easy. The one chore he absolutely hates, though- the one he would rather go back to Midnight Alley than do would have to be cleaning the bathroom. Scrubbing the sink, the bathtub, the toilet- he despises it. Definitely bribed someone else to do it when it appeared on his chores list for the week when he was a teen.
Cub doesn't particularly enjoy any specific chore (partly because, you know, he's the King's assistant and doesn't DO chores). This man here does less chores than a literal PRINCE (Scar) and LORD (Mumbo) and GOD (Grian) what the fuck
Lizzie is an "all the chores!!" type person but in reality she, too, enjoys cooking and hates washing dishes. Joel is indifferent to chores in general, and would rather help Lizzie cook, but he washes dishes bc Lizzie doesn't like doing it. So I guess his favorite chore is "help Lizzie/make Lizzie happy" 😌
Jimmy and Scott...... absolutely hire someone to come and clean their house once a week. They're old enough to have enough money to rival Mumbo, I think. Not Cleo, but at least Mumbo. All their chores are done at their bakery, and their favorite chore is definitely setup for the next day. Their least favorite chores are wiping down the counters where the dough was BEING prepared (Jimmy) and washing the dishes (pans and mixing bowls and stuff) (Scott).
Cleo... has other people to do chores. She's there to conduct business, manage the Coven, teach younger/newer Vampires, etc, household chores are generally performed by second, third and fourth tier Coven members (Lord's Turnlings/children, Coven Vampires (unrelated to the Lord) and Coven non-Vampires). However if we include the above among her "chores" then her favorite is teaching new Vampires how to... well... Vampire. And she would rather wrestle a basilisk than deal with the fucking Council-
BDubs likes gardening, of course. He loves maintaining the grounds of their Coven house and connecting with his Fae side. He basically helps support Cleo in his day to day life and also highly dislikes dealing with the Council, but I don't think he'd rather put himself in mortal danger than do it
Etho fucks off so much that he gets away with doing pretty much nothing one might consider a chore. Mans is just "peace out *gone*" and the sweeping's still not done. He brings new seeds home for BDubs' garden and unique and new food for the Coven Humans, though- he enjoys that.
Joe is banned from doing chores.
Ren loves doing ANY chore because he makes a game out of it, and often drags Martyn into it with him. Martyn enjoys anything to do with Renchanting and at least tolerates all other chores, but he hates cleaning the bathtub after a full moon because Ren is such a fucking puppy that when he transforms into a feral wolf with no sense of humanity left in him, instead of trying to hunt he demands Play In Water/Bath Times and thE DRAIN IS FULL OF FUR REN WHAT THE F-
Pearl hated sweeping and mopping. She just did, no real reason. She would rather fight god than sweep. Her favorite chore was to run errands, bc it got her out of the Palace for a few hours.
Grim is a typical 14 year old and groans any time you ask her to do anything (but she's also traumatized responsible and does it anyway). She haaaaaates making beds, because sheets just don't cooperate and you have to do them every day and even change them out which means fighting with sheets again and just- yeah.
Anyway I hope this vitally important Midnight Lore serves you well my friend <3

okay so like
first tehre was a lot of confusion abt which subjects we had
then somehow out of three two subjects students already got fixed and locked
so when the third subject teacher asked who wanted to do this one day before the festive vacation i raised my hand
and she picked everyone except for me and one other girl
she picked the girl sitting DIRECTLY NEXT TO ME and not me
nd im very good at SST btw i love social science and i get good grades in that out of 20 i got 19.5 last time so im validated too
and
i was like what no i am gonna do this
so i approached her and said "hi helo i wanna do this" and shes like "we have like 7 ppl already..." but i insisted so shes like "okay ill keep you as an extra" and drew a line under my name and put my name along with the other girl whom she had not picked lets call her s
so
then
she forgot (??) to put me in the gc in which they were discussing it
but she put s
lmao
and it was the vacaction and i dont have my own phone nor the teachers contact info
so i just. didnt know till after the holidays upon which i appraoched her and asked why i wasnt there and shes like oH oOPs or whatever and tells me i can help out if they need anything
so i went there but the kids just basically made me gvethem my statinary and then treated it like trash
and then disrespected me (whole diff incident) upon which i got mad and called a kid who had been dismissing me very much a problem and then i felt bad cuz i usually dont do shit like that like i just
dont say mean stuff back
but i did
anyway so
none of the kids, all of whom were in my class, reminded her i was supposed to be there too
idk if they forgot or what but s was literally next to me she knew she approached the teacher at the same time as me
so like. wow. after all my effort, after almost dying with the sleep deprivation and work load im just. forgettable. lmao
Do no harm but take no shit it's good you said some mean stuff to them and your teachers an idiot
Also you're not forgettable not to me

My sweet girl - Aizen Sosuke
(Authors note: this is my first time writing a yandere fanfiction so please bare with me if it is mid or even lower than that LMAO! Also I notice the quality of writing has gone down by each chapter, which is a disappointment on myself. I want to give you guys a one shot that has story and plot so please bare with my long updates where it seems as I've been dead haha, also a past few of my one shots have no been edited so I'm sorry.)
"Wake up, wake up now!" Her subconscious thoughts screamed as she slept comfortably in her futon. "He's coming to get you and there's no escape, wake up now!"
"Aizen Taicho, you can't keep staying up late every night doing everyone else's work!" (Your Name) scowls as she picked up the papers on the floor and the trash that had been left behind. Throwing them into a pile and wiping the dust off the book shelf's.
"Ahh my sweet lieutenant." Aizen smiles as his glasses fell lower, standing up from his chair to stretch he follows her lead on cleaning his office.
"Don't bother Taicho, you have a meeting in 15 minutes. The room will be clean once you get back." She ordered him as his eyes darken behind his eyes.
"And what would my sweet lieutenant be doing while I'm gone." He teases from behind her reaching for the higher shelf as she gasps and scoots herself away, obviously blushing.
"Work, a few of the seated officers can't seem to get anything right around here."
Aizen finished the dusting as he picks up the trash as he warmly placed a hand on her head. "Such a sweet girl." Making his way lower to her heart. "Am I teasing you that much your heart is beating faster?"
"Huh?! No! You are my Captain!" She lied facing away from him to take a seat on the couch. She reached into her bag to start working as his smile fell. "Which seated officers aren't doing their jobs?"
"It's okay, really." She stressed not paying attention that Aizen was disappointed they were making his sweet lieutenant overwork.
"I'll be off to my meeting."
Aizen decided to make a quick stop to those seated officers as they sat one by one in a line looking up to him in mercy. "As a shinigami in the gotei 13, you think slacking off is part of the job?" He asks as his spirit pressure crushed their lungs. One by one they grabbed their throats begging for air as he looked down in disgust.
"These damn kids can't handle a little bit of pressure, surely the gap between the strong and weak has gotten greater the past few decades."
"T-taicho." They coughed up as he stopped and knitted his brows. "Must I hear of it again, your punishment will be worse." After he put on a smile to them and walked off. "I expect good things children."
Waking up from a chilly air (Your Name) looked at her surroundings to find that her papers were already done and neatly clipped together on the table, Aizen was no where to be seen as she yawned. It was nearly dusk.
"(Your Name)."
She turned and screamed before falling. "Taicho! You can't scare me like that!"
He smiles and sets down some dinner for her. "There has been intruders that invaded soul society, I don't want you leaving the barracks till we figure out how to eliminate them. One brought down Zaraki Taicho ."
She widen her eyes a bit. "Zaraki Taicho? Who are they?"
"Are you listening to me?" Aizen asks as she nodded her head, the severity must be high because even Aizen was not smiling no more. "You must not leave the barracks." He warns her with a piercing tone behind his voice. "Taicho has never spoke to me this way."
"Of course Taicho, anything for you."
Aizen smiles again and stood up. "You may sleep in my barracks if it makes you more comfortable my sweet lieutenant."
"Where are you going though?"
"Research." He says before setting down and laying her down on the couch. "You will be safe here."
"White, everything was white. I must be going insane." (Your Name) thought as she tossed in turned, something wasn't right. She tried to wake herself up but nothing would work. It was as she was lucid dreaming and controlling it.
"Aizen Taicho?" She called out running towards him, the place was barren, she didn't like it at all. She felt suffocated. It lacked oxygen and sunlight. No color. No personality.
"My love." Aizen muses as he sat on his high chair looking down to her. This was not the Aizen she knew, he seemed so evil, where was his kind smile and his glasses, his nurturing aura?
"I want to go home, let's go home Taicho." She yelled but he smirked and came closer to her face to pull her chin towards him, the fear in her eyes were unpleasant to him as his facade erased. "We are home darling."
"Wake up wake up!" She thought and jumped out of bed.
"No No No!" (Your Name) screamed, it was not a dream. This was real. Where were the doors? What happen to the soul society? Was she asleep for that long?
Searching the room she tried to find a exit, there were no windows, just a bed, couch and table. Falling to the floor she wailed in pain. Even the door was bolted and locked, anything she tried it wouldn't bulge.
"Whats going on?" She had no idea, her intuition must meant that Aizen must have been the master mind behind everything. Covering her mouth she cried, she was disgusted and she felt dirty. After all these years being his lieutenant he was always so caring and loving.
This was not love, she could never turn her back on the soul society.
"I see you are awake now my love." Aizen calls out from behind, his voice sounding strained and stress. "This is our new home, learn to love it." He demanded in his voice with a threat she has never heard from him besides the night she fell asleep in his barracks.
"It was you? The whole time?" (Your Name) asks backing away from him reaching for her katana that was no where to be around.
Aizen chuckles a little and stepped closer to her but she refused and inched away from him as far as possible.
"How, why-"
"My love, they would kill you if they knew we were together."
She widen her eyes, did he really think she would want him now? He was acting so weird, so devious.
"I don't want this, please taicho! If you loved me-"
Aizen shushes her with a quick grasped as he laid them in bed and she closed her eyes from fear, she feared him. Something in his eyes held madness, she was going to go mad as well.
"I've always loved you, this is me protecting you from the enemy. I don't want to hurt anyone but if you refuse me I have to teach you a lesson."
Opening her eyes she looked down, he had her pin. Something about him was intoxicated as she fell into his touch. Aizen was more than delighted as she complied to him but he knew. He knew his lieutenant wasn't so much a baby to fall so quickly. Aizen was expecting her to act as soon as she could.
(Your Name) couldn't tell if it was days or weeks that past by, she only knew that wherever Aizen went she had to follow. If she wasn't allowed to then it was back to their room. The room, she hated it so much. She cried more than ever in her life and she never cried. She was never sensitive but this place was mind fucking her mental health.
"I refuse." She said to servant one night as they served her dinner, she missed the days where she had freedom to do whatever she wanted. "You must eat." They plead as she threw the food across the room before turning the other way.
"If I can't escape I will find other ways to escape."
A familiar spirit pressure filled the room as she got up quickly to see Aizen in a sour mood, even though there was still a smile plastered on his face, she knew he was raging.
"My dear, you made a mess in our room." He says walking towards her as he ordered the servant to bring another before excusing themselves. "Why act like a brat now? You were doing so good these past week."
"I-"
Setting her dinner down on the table he grabbed her body and set her on the bed. "Eat now, you have to be healthy."
"No."
"No?"
She shook her head but before she could say anything else a hand was around her throat as she tried to screamed but food was being forced down by his mouth. (Your Name) tried to hit him off but his pin was like a metal chain.
"You aren't a baby bird (Your Name) making me force you to eat like this." Aizen face was twisted sadistically as he covered her mouth forcing her to swallow.
Her body was shaking as he left go and she picked up the spoon, she ate quietly and slowly and the whole time he watched her. "That's a good girl." He praised kissing her tears away.
The following weeks were no better as he watched her eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. If he couldn't be there he had Gin do it. She could tell something about Gin was off but she couldn't pick up what. There were days she gave Gin a hard day but he wouldn't say anything to Aizen. Did he pity her?
"Ya wanna leave don ya?" The snake asks her one day as she sat on the floor like a baby that had broke its toy.
"What do you want?" She sneered at him before hugging her knees and staring at the wall again.
"Nun ya, poor baby, suffering all alone." He teased. As she looked back to him.
"You sure I'm the only one suffering?" She asks Gin as his eyes wavered a bit but he smiled again.
"Such a weird girl."
He whispered something into her ear as her eyes widen but he smiles and waved off leaving her shook.
That night, she was met with an angry Aizen, apparently she was giving Gin to much attention. He was jealous the snake had made you smile while he couldn't seem to put one on your face anymore.
"I'm sorry Aizen Tai- Sosuke! You asked me how my day was." She pleaded as he grabbed her by the neck towards the bed.
"Look at me love." He commanded as she saw the menace in him.
"Shall I kill him? Should I slice his body in half? Should I make you watch as I torture my favorite subject?"
"No! No! I swear Gin wasn't the one to make me smile."
In the back of her mind she replayed what Gin had warned her about "Be careful, his eyes are everywhere, but not mine."
She knew Gin pity her, but it sparked a hope that someone felt bad for her even from someone coming from the likes of him.
Grabbing Aizen face she forcefully placed her lips onto his even if the gripped around her neck never loosen. She had to play the game in order to survive.
"I only want you, my one and only love." She whispered into his ear as he slightly calmed down.
"You made me do this (Your Name)." Aizen whispered into her ear as a restraining kido wrapped around her wrist.
Her eyes widen as she turned to face him, there was disappointment in his eyes as he stared in disgust.
"You don't love me." She said to him pulling on the restraints, it stung and burned the more she pulled on it.
Without saying any words he left the room.
Ever since the incident with Gin, Aizen had not been to nice to her. He simply fed her enough to be alive and punished her body in sexual ways that made her uncomfortable. He was testing her loyalty by using Gin and she failed in Aizen eyes.
The restraints were still around her wrist as she looked down onto the bed sheet, apparently some Shinigami had made it to Hueco Mundo, she prayed they would find her room but the chances were slim, Aizen had locked her down the deepest level.
"My love." Aizen asks as she looked up to him, her eyes were dark and they died, losing the color of life. (Your Name) did not answer as she acknowledged he was there by staring at him.
She felt tiny and broken, who was she to oppose him.
"Are you happy?"
She started to shake quietly as Aizen waited for her answer, he was always mentally abusing her. One day he would treat her like a princess and the next day it was as if she was trash on his foot.
She was scared any answer she gave him never exceeded his approval.
"Yes." She lied looking back down at the bed sheets.
"Then smile." He ordered her as she tried to move the muscle on her face but it felt so numb by now.
Slowly smiling to him she felt like screaming in his face so bad.
"Thank you." Aizen touches her hands removing the restraints but she didn't move as he grabbed her arms and kissed the marks.
"My love, I apologize for hurting you. Will you forgive me?"
"No."
"Yes." She says still smiling and reaching for a hug. "I love you." She choked out as his embrace of warmth made her sleepy.
"I love you too. My one and only. We will always be together." Aizen assured her with a smirks as she smiled too but deep inside she was crying.
She knew Aizen would kill her before anyone could try to save her.

🚬details: (M) reader mending a broken SeolA
🚬word count: ~3k
🚬a/n: hihi!! remember how i promised i wouldn't be gone long lmAO i swear my writing process is literally just a burst of h*rny energy every few months i'm so sorry. anyways i hope you enjoy this one, i've been hyperbolic time chamber training my writing (cringe) and i hope it shows. without further adieu...
*flick... flick... kshh..."
Rotting wood and melted plastic. Something else... maybe a hint of old leather boot? You had a faint idea as to what cigarettes tasted like just from the smell, but tasting it for yourself left an unbelievably foul bitterness in the back of your throat. You watch as the burning edge smolders on, a single ticking fuse out of the 20 in the pack in your pocket. Halfway ash at this point, you go in for another puff.
Ah, you got it. The haze of a boys locker room.
You stumble to the trash can to put it out, eager to replace the taste in your mouth with, say, old malt liquor or urine. You toss the pack of cigarettes into the trash, crashing into it's walls with a loud bang. A muffled yelp comes from behind it. Curious, you walk around to see a woman sitting down with her arms wrapped around her knees. She looks up at you, dried mascara stained, streamed down the side of her face. Her lip quivers.
"Are... are you alright?" you bend down on one knee out of sympathy, eliciting another jolt from the girl. "It's alright, it's alright..." Bruises paint her arms, her legs, there isn't an inch of skin uncovered. You notice she's shivering. You take your jacket off. It's tattered, probably needs a wash or two, but it's better than the sheer one piece she had that probably wasn't middle of winter appropriate.
You carefully hand the jacket over, but she doesn't reach for it. She didn't jump this time, which was a win in your book. "Well," you slowly take a seat, jacket in hand, next to the woman. "I'm not wearing the jacket. So I guess we'll both freeze." No response. "C'mon, before you freeze to dea-"
"Smoke. You smell like smoke."
She had a warm voice, warmer than any jacket could muster.
"S-sorry. I don't usually, I just wanted to try tonight."
She takes one look at the jacket, then at you. She pensively reaches for the jacket, and drapes it over her shoulders.
"I hate smoke," she mutters.
"Me too."
The two of you sit in silence for a while. You didn't know if it was helping her, but you stayed anyway just in case. Her stomach rumbles, and she looks up in an embarrassed panic.
"When was the last time you've eaten?"
"...one or two...
days."
Fuck.
You stand up and dust the grime off the butt of your jeans. "You like chicken?"
"H-huh?"
"Fried chicken. There's a place I've been dying to try down the street. I'm headed straight there, I'm starving."
"Your jacket-"
"It's coming too." You hold your hand out to help her up. She doesn't take it, but she begins to follow your lead.
"Right. 24 piece bucket here we come..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You watch as the dainty girl in front of you scarfs down piece after piece of chicken, picking the bones and licking her fingers clean as she goes like a machine. You've had 2, she's had 15.
You exaggeratedly pat your stomach. "I-I'm stuffed, would you like the rest?"
She eyes the rest of the chicken, then you. She shyly bows her head in thanks, and slides the box in front of her.
You reach into your pocket for your wallet. She looks down in dismay. "I-I'll pay it back. In full- no, more."
"Mhm." You pull a $20 out of your wallet, leaving it about as empty as the box of chicken in front of you. "Worry about getting full first. Where're you going after this? Got a place to stay?"
"Um, I'll find someplace..."
"The street doesn't count. Listen...I've got a reaaaally comfy couch in my living room... tuscan leather! Well, just regular old leather. But it's yours if you want it."
"I couldn't."
"It's either that or I book you a hotel. Your choice." The woman eyes your already thin wallet.
"I... I promise I won't stay long."
During your short convo she had finished off the chicken and started cleaning up the crumbs at the bottom of the box. You take the box away from her. "C'mon, I've got leftover ramen in the fridge."
"But I was eating that..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You open the door to your rather tiny studio apartment, dirty clothes littered the floor and trash piled up on the kitchen counter. You panic a little at the sight.
"Sorry, I wasn't expecting guests. Take a seat, make yourself comfortable while I clean."
"The least I could do is help." The first thing she picks up is a single dirty sock.
You rush over to take it from her, stumbling over a pizza box in the process. "D-don't worry about it, I got it. Uh... you probably wanna shower. The door to your right. Help yourself to anything in my closet, I don't mind."
You speed up the cleaning, hoping no more erotic landmines lay bare on your living room floor. A voice calls out from the hallway. " I-Is this okay?" The woman pops out holding one of your white T-shirts and a pair of shorts. "It'll be a tad big, but I'm afraid everything will. Go for it."
You finish cleaning about 30 minutes into the girl's shower; the place hasn't looked better since you moved in. You hear the shower shut off as you plop down on the couch, a job well done. You turn on the TV, hoping to find something that'll pique the girl's interest. You find it's a bit hard to appeal to the tastes of a stranger. Romance movie, no, that's awkward... horror slasher, god no, the girl's spooked as is... you settle for music. You put on your favorite Jazz album, Stoneflower by Antônio Carlos Jobim, as the bathroom door opens. Without taking your eyes off the screen, you ask, "so how'd the clothes fit?"
The T-shirt and shorts plop down at your feet, thrown by the girl. Your eyes dart towards her, hair still damp and body only concealed by a towel wrapped around her waist. She lets go of the towel, revealing her tight, toned body, her supple breasts, and hips satisfyingly thick.
"I can't pay you back now... but in the meantime..."
Your eyes wandered her from tip to toe - a slight blush on her cheeks, her arms trying to cover her breasts but failing, maybe intentionally, her toned abs despite her lithe physique, her... bruises. All over her arms and legs. Too many to count. You couldn't.
"No."
"H-huh?"
You pick up the shirt and shorts and place them in her hands. You pat the seat next to you as you return to yours. "Get dressed and sit down, this man is about to blow your mind with trumpet alone."
"B-but-"
"You heard me. Quick, quick! You're about to miss the solo!"
Some time passes, with the two of you sitting on the couch, just enjoying the ambiance. At the end of the album you stand and clap jokingly. "A masterclass in bossa nova. We didn't deserve Jobim. How'd you like-"
You look to the girl to see her fast asleep, curled into a ball on her side of the couch. Guess only you could enjoy fine art. You reach into your closet to find a spare blanket, draping it over her and turning in for the night.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You crack a couple eggs into the medium hot pan, sprinkling some salt and pepper right when the yolk begins to denature. Another sunny side egg from the gods, as you like to call it. You didn't really know how to cook anything else, but you had eggs down to a science. It was all you could afford, anyways. It seems breakfast had woken up the girl for you, who's head darted up at the scent.
"G'mornin. Breakfast'll be ready in a bit. Mind grabbing the leftover rice from the fridge?"
The girl yawns and groggily rubs her eyes awake. Cute.
"I have to go to work soon, so I won't be eating with you, unfortunately. What do you want for dinner?"
"I'll be off soon you don't have to-"
"What. Do you want. For dinner?" you repeat gently with a smile.
"...beef. Grilled beef."
"Noted." You grab the jacket she was wearing last night and begin to head out. "Watch the house for me, uh..."
"Seola." she says without hesitation.
"Watch the house for me, Seola."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You exit the grocery store, 2 pounds of sliced beef in hand. It was your 11th grocery trip that month for brisket. You were getting a bit tired of it, but Seola wasn't and that's all that mattered.
You shake the bags in your hand as you open the door to your apartment. No response. Strange, considering the sound of grocery bags sent her running to the dinner table eager to dig in.
"Seola?" you whisper as you gently knock and peek into your bathroom. Not there.
"Mm." You hear a voice come from your bedroom. It wasn't the first time she's been in there; you caught her once trying to clean one day as "payment" again. You had rushed her out before she found something of your "manhood" in there.
"Seola I told you not to-"
You open the door to find Seola on the floor resting against your bed, nipples protruding out from your borrowed shirt, your borrowed shorts drooped to the floor around her ankles, her hand sandwiched between her legs, and a pair of your unwashed underwear held to her face with her other hand. Seola's eyes widened at your sudden entrance, quickly hiding your undergarments behind her and closing her legs together.
"I didn't- I wasn't- It's not what it looks like..." Seola's face went beet red.
You walk over to Seola and crouch down, not knowing what to do with the briefs-stealer in front of you.
"...lemme see your hands," you say, after a short awkward silence.
Seola hesitates for a moment, thinking she knew what you were looking for. She sheepishly offers up the tidy-whities, avoiding eye contact as she did.
You scoff, grabbing them and tossing them off to the side. You hold her hand instead, interlocking her fingers with yours. You stroke her forearms, now free from any sign of bruising.
"You've... We've come a long way, stray. I, uh... feel the same way...but... I wanna take things slow. For your sake."
Seola places her free hand on your cheek. You couldn't tell who's, but someone's heart was pounding out of their chest, loud enough to hear. You move to plant a kiss on Seola's awaiting lips. Your passionate, aggressive kisses are stark contrasts to Seola's gentle, reciprocal kisses. You had to stop yourself as Seola places a hand on your chest to take a breather. She nods, reassuring what you were doing was okay. Seola takes ahold of your hand and moves it between her legs, her folds scorchingly hot to the touch. A gasp escapes her lips, your hands were still cold from the weather outside. Her legs clamp around your hand, slowly reinvigorating the warmth in your hands.
You part her legs with your newly warm hand, as you move to position yourself face to face with Seola's inviting slit. You plant dozens of kisses, along Seola's inner thigh, above her pelvic bone, dangerously close to her vulva, before finally landing one final one on the tip of her rose bud - sending waves of electricity all across her body and eliciting a yelp from the overstimulated girl.
You snap out of your aroused trance and look Seola in the eyes.
"Everything okay?"
"J-just too much at once is all. But... I don't hate it..." Seola cups your cheek again with her hand. "I'll let you know if I want to stop so... keep going..."
You sit up and begin to lift Seola's shirt off as she reaches for your belt buckle. The two of you fiddle around in blind enthusiasm, a deep haze washing over the two of you making it hard to even think. You pull your own pants off as Seola watches intently, eyes locked on to the bulge in your briefs. You sit still for a while as Seola does the same, admiring each others bare bodies.
You break the standoff by pushing Seola down against your bed, kissing her more aggressively than ever before. You move to her neck, sucking as hard as you can, desperate to form hickeys, replacing her bruises with ones of love, of lust. Seola moans directly into your ear, a siren's song taking over your conscious. Her fingers trace the back of your neck, making their way upwards to run through the back of your hair. You pull back for a moment to purvey your next fare. Your eyes lock onto Seola's nipples, homing onto one with the cusp of your mouth. You suck, hard.
"AH!~"
Your eyes look up, still vacuumed to her breast. She bites her lip and nods.
Green light.
You continue sucking, raising your hand to grasp the unattended breast. Your thumb rubs circles around her areola, the rest of your fingers resting against the side of her breast. You get a little carried away and lose your balance, causing you to stumble a bit. For stability you move your knee closer to Seola's crotch, heat emanating, almost burning your leg. Seola slides down slightly, enough so that her soaked underwear makes contact with your knee. She grinds. Up and down, at a sedated pace. You feel her steamy slickness, almost as if she wasn't wearing any underwear. Another moan lets loose from the girl's lips.
"Mnhh... fuck..."
You unhinge from her nipple, now as red as her cheeks. "Didn't know you had a sailor's tongue, stray."
Seola weakly grasps your cheek, looking into your eyes. "Shut up..."
She looks away shyly, visibly steeling her self to say: "...and fuck me..."
Green. Green all the way.
You pull your aching cock through the hole in your boxers, seemingly putting Seola in a trance as her gaze locks onto it. You snap her out of it by pulling her chin in for one more kiss, before beginning to rub against her slit with your entire length, the two of you sharing each other's smolderingly hot erotic cores. Her breaths turn from deep, heavy sighs to shallow, more shaky breaths, the pleasure almost too much to handle.
For you too; you can't hold back anymore. Slick with precum and Seola's nectar, you position yourself to finally enter the source of her wetness. Your member begins to pervade Seola's walls, an indescribable tightness encapsulating your cock, your lower body, your entire brain, slowly inching your way forward until you have nothing left to give.
You lay still, fearing that any more movement could send you over the edge. Seola notices the strained expression on your face, and doesn't care. She pushes you down to the floor, a deep want on her face. She lifts herself up, a vacuum trying to milk you dry, and crashes down with her entire body weight, breaking your resolve.
Seola tries to brace for impact, her eyes clamped shut and a hand over her mouth. But to no avail. A pressure with the force of a nuclear bomb erupts from your cock inside of Seola, flooding her with seed with every pulse. Seola collapses midway, her cheek face down on your chest as a deep guttural moan escapes her throat. Your cock continues pumping, a seemingly endless stream of semen bursting from your dam.
The two of you lay breathy, still connected, not a single thought being able to be formed between the two of you other than, "Fuck."
Seola pushes herself up against your chest, an erotic drunkenness making her stumble a bit before sitting up. "Fuck. More." She rises, a thundershock rippling through you from the sensitivity. Seola lowers herself again, buckling her knees, too shaky to even continue. She collapses against your chest again. She mutters, motionless, "More...more..."
You pull energy from every last reserve from your body to hoist the girl up and plop her onto your bed. You've given this girl everything she's wanted, now's not the time to stop. You push past your hypersensitivity and slide into her once more, and again, and again, each thrust a devastatingly lustful gut punch that sends your instincts into overdrive. Her walls, now slick with cum, convulse and contort around you, signaling to you once more what she wants. You look into her eyes, glazed over in pleasure, as you lean down and kiss her one last time, sending you over the edge as you pump the last of your reserve, every last drop, into her needy pussy.
You pull out and collapse next to Seola, not a single inch of your body able to be moved. You feel Seola place her hand over yours, taking every bit of her energy even just to gently squeeze. You reciprocate with every bit of yours.
————————————————————————————
You wake up, after god knows how long. Seola's cuddled up to your chest, almost purring with content after the night before. You pet the back of her head, wondering what you did in a past life to be this lucky. Seola groggily nuzzles up to your chest, not wanting to let go.
"I'm here. I'm not going anywhere." You assure her.
"Mm." Seola groans and grips you tighter, despite the affirmation.
"I fucking love you."
"Love you too. Sailor." Seola whispers, as she drifts off back to sleep.

~Soft Fuzzy Man~
Hiiiii! So I know I haven’t posted in like forever but like two weeks ago @theungratefuldead and I wrote some stuff about characters in lemon demon songs. Here’s soft fuzzy man x reader Pt.1 lmao (pt2 on the way!).
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: I didn’t take this srsly while writing it, i use the word hand too many times, lime, i used lyrics as dialogue im sorry, hospital mention, poisoning, idk there’s probably more but this is all I can remember
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a dark and stormy night- well according to your roommate. It was barely sprinkling and neither of you had seen or heard lightning, but they insisted that it was stormy. Nonetheless, here you stood in front of the creepy, old, abandoned house that you and Vex walk by every morning on your way to the community college the you go to. Vex had suggested the two of you explore it as a “fun halloween activity”. And well, it was October 29 so time was, according to Vex, “running out”.
“What are you waiting for, go in!” Vex pushes you through the door. They had always been the adrenaline junky thrill seeker between the two of you, but you thought this might be taking it a bit too far. You land on your hands and knees, already feeling the splinters from the distressed floor boards pierce your skin. You get up and dust yourself off. Your hands stung as you plucked out the small pieces of wood.
Vex came through the door, creeping up behind you. They shouted in your ear when they got close enough, “Boo!!” You fell to the floor again.
“That isn’t funny, Vex” you said, standing up again. “Jesus, who died in here, it smells like death.” Turning on your flashlight, you walk through the entry way into the kitchen. You look around and find several old appliances covered in rust, mold, and whatever else was growing in this house.
“Wow, this place really is abandoned, huh, Vex? Vex??” Your roommate didn’t respond. “Vex?” you say quizzically, turning to look behind you. When met with no response, you look to a nearby hallway and see a light further down it, becoming dimmer as you hear the faint sound of echoed giggling.
“Dammit they fucking abandoned me,” you muttered under your breath. You jog after them (you had never been much of a runner). All of the doors in the hallway were closed, screwing over any real chance of finding them. You decide to go on without your roommate and decide it might even be better without them trying to scare you every five seconds.
After a few minutes of looking through rooms with decrepit and broken down furniture and very few items of interest, you decide to go upstairs. The second floor was much cleaner than the first, with much less mold, far fewer cobwebs, less peeling and staining of the wallpaper, and a lack of the odor of death. It almost looked like someone had been there recently, but you knew that couldn’t be the case… right?
You walked into a room on the left side of the staircase. As you entered, a cold feeling washed over you, leaving your entire body feeling a fuzzy chill, similar to what you imagine tv static would feel like, as you looked around. You noticed that the room was surprisingly well kept, with a complete lack of mold and trash. Only a single cobweb could be found in the corner of the room. All of the furniture was (for the most part) clean and in tact, aside from a mystery stain on an antique red love seat. There was a white, fluffy pillow with the word “Love” in pink cursive writing across the front.
You look over to the vanity on the other side of the room. Scanning the top of it you find a silver necklace with a fluorite crystal on it. You reach out a hand to grab it when it suddenly starts levitating. It rises into the air and, seemingly by magic, places itself on your neck. The walls and floor started shaking. You turned around.
“What the- ah!!“ Your words were cut off by a harsh tug down on the jewelry around your neck as a very attractive ghost appeared in front of you, a blue smoke surrounding him.
“Hi, sweetheart~” he spoke in a smooth, deep voice. It was sweet to your ears and reminded you of red velvet cake. You stared blankly at him, your mind and body in an intoxicated trance from his presence. “Can you see me?” He waved a hand in front of your face. “Why can’t you see me?” He let go of your necklace, causing you to fall back into the ground.
“Ah!” You stood back up, wondering if this was just a weird dream. “Are you… real?” You reach out a hand to touch him but he disappears.
“What does it matter? I may just be a trick of the light, but I’m here to love you all the same~” Suddenly the ghost’s voice was behind you and you could feel his hands caressing your shoulders. “Don’t be nervous, baby. I’m not like other guys who have a surface.” He reappears in front of you and takes your hands in his. Blushing, you try to pull your them away but he doesn’t let go.
“Wha-“
“Don’t go, honey! All you really need is a soft fuzzy man like me~” He pulls you into a hug, resting his hands on your lower back. A wave of euphoria washed over you. Unlike the warm hug of a living human, he felt cool and tingly around you. Also unlike that of a living person, he simultaneously felt there and not there, like hugging someone in a dream. It was intoxicating, his presence was like a drug.
You placed your hands on his chest as he let go of you. He placed one of his hands on your hip and the other held your jaw. You lean in and kiss him. His tongue enters your mouth and swirls perfectly with yours. You moan quietly into his mouth as you wrap your arms around his neck. He pulls away, leaving a string of saliva between you and a tingly feeling in your mouth.
He pushed you down on the red loveseat and straddled your hips. After taking your shirt off, he started to leave kisses down your body, starting at your jaw and ending right below your collarbones. His lips left a cold, tingly sensation on your skin. You begin the grind your hips up into his as he starts to leave a hickey in the crook of your neck.
You wake up in the hospital. Your mind is fuzzy and your entire body feels cold. When you finally come back to reality, you notice your roommate standing over you.
“You’re finally up! Thank the gods. How are you feeling?” Vex spoke with their usual energetic demeanor but with a large sense of worry and grief behind it.
“What happened? Why am I in the hospital??” Your voice was shaky and quiet.
“I found you upstairs laying on a couch and hugging a pillow. Your lips were blue and your hands and face were really cold. When I tried to wake you up, you didn’t respond. Not even after I yelled directly into your ear!” Vex continued, their usual sense of energy shining through the worry in their voice.
“So, I took you to the hospital and here we are! The doctors said you have quite a bit of lung damage so they think some sort of poison gas caused whatever this is.” Vex gestured to your body.
“Although, they said they can’t figure out what gas caused it, they’ve been running tests on you for hours. I hope you have health insurance! Hey what’s that on your shoulder?” Remembering what had happened at the abandoned house, you quickly tried to cover it by pretending to scratch your neck. In the process, you realized that you were no longer wearing the fluorite necklace you had found in the house.
“Wait a second… where’s my necklace?”
Just some soft headcannon for my 2k Celebration! You can check out the original post here
Pairings: Mirio x reader, Shoto x reader, Bakugo x reader
Buy Me a Ko-fi! | Masterlist
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆ 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆ 。・:*:・゚
Mirio
This dude^^^^right here^^^^\
HAS 0 CONCEPT OF PAIN
Like he feels it he KNOWS its theree
He just CHOOSES to ignore it
he could have literal slashes all over his body and insists that he’s okay
He main priority is to get healed ASAP of course
BUT HE WONT SIT DOWN
he will be cracking dad jokes, insisting he’s fine when he’s clearly NOT
You cant even get ahold of him hes just soooo fast
He will only really chill out if you FORCE him and he sees how nervous he’s making you
Its gonna be wierd cause he gonna be worried about you
Lots of soft touches, asking if your doing alright, and cracking jokes to make you smile
Honestly this baby has a heart of golddddd
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
“Mirio, please Im begging you-” you sighed, your feet scrambling to keep up with the hero, the first aid kit clanking in your hands.
“Begging me? Geez, didnt realize you were that worried!” he laughed good naturedly, his body sauntering over to open the refrigerator door. “Honestly, babe, Im fine, honestly!”
You squinted your eyes at him, his arms outstretched as if to show you just how “fine” he was.
What a big ass lie- his suit was in shambles, his skin scraped and dusted with dirt...he was a wreck.
“Mirio, you look like you got hit by a bus,” you stated plainly, your face clearly not buying his remarks.
He simply laughed at you, his beaten body reaching into the fridge and pulling out some food.
“Ah, c’mon, y/n, you gotta believe me, Im feeling perfectly fine!”
Oh, so now he wanted to make food?! When he looked like that, completely trashed and bruised?!
You shook your head, your lips pursed- deseprate time called for desperate measures.
MIrio began to look through the drawers, trying to find some utensils in the small kitchen.
“Hey, sunshine, do you know where the-uh,uh- sunshine?”
You had his tattered suit balled in your hand, your body pressed up against his own. You face was mere inches away from his, his blue eyes wide with shock as you kissed him square on his mouth.
Mirio dropped the loaf of bread in his hand, his digits wrapping around your waist and giving it a squeeze as your hands began to work his suit off his battered torso.
Mirio smiled on to your lips at the feeling of you working his clothes off him.
“So this was why you were desperate-” he chuckled softly,his hands pushing you flushed against your body.
He was quickly snapped away from his hazy thoughts once he felt you push away, your hands quickly opening up the first aid kit and getting some supplies out.
“Nope- I just needed to give you a distraction,” you smirked at the boy, his pout making you laugh
Mirio gave you a sad look, his lips pouted out as if like a child.
“Ah cmon sunshine, now thats just cruel,”
Shoto
Shoto has nerves made of STEEL
And same with his pain tolerance
You could probably give this boy stitches and he’d only wince like twice
Honestly it kinda scary how calm he can be
If your kinda new to bandaging people up, he’s got you COVERED
Like will guide your hands and tell you what to put on what wound, etc etc
Hes a sweeetyyyy pieeeee
He will be blushy hardcore tho, no matter how long you’ve known each other or how long you’ve been dating
Hes a soft baby, and the feeling of your hands on his bare skin makes him melt into your touch
But even though he’s good at taking pain, make sure to remind him to breathe
Cause he has a tendency to hold his breathe, and it literally freaks you out when you see his lips turning purple lmao
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
You had your legs cradled against Shoto’s thighs, your hands busy at work to patch up an open wound left on his chest. His hero suit was pooled around his navel, showcasing the beautifully pale skin of his torso.
You had to admit it- the boy was built like a god, and you couldnt be more pleased to be so close to him, even if it was because he was injured.
“Are you doing okay?” you asked quietly, looking at him with waiting eyes.
Shoto gulped, his cheeks gaining a little red hue- you were so cute sitting on his lap, and the way you looked at him could have made his heart stop from just pure happiness. He felt so calm yet so nervous around you, and he was intoxicated by the feeling.
“Y-yes, thank you,” he stuttered out, his tone a bit more flushed.
You simply smiled, happy he was feeling okay, continuing with your work-
until you felt heat radiating under your legs.
At first you didnt pay any mind to it, letting it seep into your pants and warm your skin...but it began to hurt a little, almost like if a laptop was burning under your thighs.
You cocked your head looking up at Shoto’s face, his eyes downcast as if lovesick and his cheeks a fiery red...he was flustered.
“Shoto,” you mused quietly, taking your finger and resting it against his chin. His eyes met yours quickly, those bi-colored eyes wide in an owlish expression.
“Yes y/n?” he asked nervously, his tone deep and rich like honey.
You gave him a small smirk, tilting your head ever so slightly. “Are you nervous? Because your kind of heating up on me-”
“Oh, I-Im sorry!” he instantly apologized, his hands wrapping around your outer thighs, “I wasnt paying attnetion, I-Ill cool you down...”
Shoto’s kept his hands cradled on your sides for the rest of the time you were working on his wounds, his face a reddened mess as he sent cold sensations down your skin.
Bakugo
He definitelllyyyyy got hurt from training, fighting Deku, or both
Your probably gonna have to get used to bandaging him up cause his pride wont let him get patched up
but he will be too rough to properly fix himself up
tHIS LITTLE BRAT THO
He thinks he is being all tough,,,,
but honestly he’s not
Like he might be quiet at first, only a couple groans here and there-
but once you pull out that bottle of alcohol for his wounds hes gonna be FERAL
just throwing a damnnnnn temper tantrum
Once you get that part over with he’ll calm down...maybe even say thank you if your lucky smh
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
(This scene was definitellllyyyyy inspired by Indiana Jones and Ive been DYING to write this since like Christmas)
“Shit y/n, it fucking hurts!” he yelled, his vermillion eyes a deep red as he spoke through gritted teeth.
He was holding his scratched arm away from you, shielding you from being able to properly clean it. You couldn't help but roll you eyes- yeah, cleaning the wound stings a little, but you it wasnt like you were doing durgery on him. He seriously was a little too much to deal with at time.
You leaned away from the whining boy, an exasperated sigh leaving your lips.
“So where does it not hurt then, Katsuki,”
Bakugo gave a sulky look, his eyes squinted at you as he pointed at his elbow
“-Here.”
You leaned forward quickly, your lips placing a soft kiss on the skin. Bakugo’s cheeks immediately erupted in red, his eyes wide and all pain erased from his face as he gazed at your slightly annoyed face.
“And-and here,” he stuttered out, his voice a little less forceful as he slowly pointed to his collarbone with bandaged digits.
This needy little prick-a small smirk enveloped on your face as you leaned in gently, careful to not press your body too much on his as you left a small kiss on his skin.
Bakugo watched you with wide eyes, his whole body tingling and the spots where you kissed him leaving electric sparks on his skin.
“Anywhere else?” you asked, your eyes glowing mischievously as you looked at he flustered boy.
He grunted slightly, his mouth swallowing thickly.
“And-and here,” he slowly stated, his hand pointing to his lips.
You simply rolled your eyes, your smile growing on your lips as you happily obliged to his request.
Chester and the Jesters (FNAF SB fanfic) C4 - Electricity by any other name
In Summary:
The new tech sure does seem a little strange. Chester (at least, that's what their name tag says) doesn't seem as concerned as they should be about the high turnover rate here at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza-Plex, or the numerous rumors about what happens to people who take the night shift. And to make matters worse, there seems to be some kind of criminal on the loose! The cops say they think the criminal is hiding out in the woods somewhere near the pizza-plex. Stress is high at the plex these days, but Chester is stoic as ever. Say, come to think of it, no one can seem to remember where Chester's application went or who they interviewed with. Their employee file is misplaced or missing just like everything else in this place. But the new tech does a good job completing their tasks, and has their own badge and everything, so of course they must belong here. It's not like someone would sneak into the plex and go this far out of their way to impersonate a low level technician. Right??
Things To Know (always read responsibly!):
Biggest warnings are for blood, death, knives, murder, the police, violence, also the OC is at one point hit by lightning. All fun stuff
About 70,000 words in total, 9 chapters, so roughly like. 7,500 words per chapter
This is an OC story, not a reader insert or a self insert! But if you want to imagine otherwise be my guest lol
Angst, fluff
OC x Sun & Moon, there's romance but zero spice
Occasional swearing
Heavy focus on Sun and Moon but most of the rest of the gang is there too :)
Afton doesn't exist, sorry peepaw, Vanessa is here but she's very chill. She's a kickass gamer girl lmao
Moon does an attempted murder but its fine. He's just a lil guy ok
OC uses they/them and also sign language most of the time
Impersonation, lying. There's also manipulation. Yall I wasn't kidding about the angst
There's also a lot of focus on how they're all robots, very cool robots with feelings lol
That's all I can think of, as always please lmk if I should add anything!
Ao3 Link: Right here!
Start reading here: Chapter 1
Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5
C4 - Electricity by any other name
Chester woke up in a comfort they didn't recall falling asleep in. As they sat up and rubbed the sleep from their eyes under their glasses, they realized that at some point someone had placed a pillow under their head and a soft blanket over them. It must have been Sun, seeing as no one else knew Chester was up in the room behind the balcony.
Chester could hear kids screaming and laughing from beyond the curtain. The daycare, and by extension the rest of the building, must be open. Chester didn't have any clue what time it was. There wasn't a clock in the room, and they'd plugged their faz-phone in to charge in the employee stock room when they'd clocked out last night. Their head still hurt, and they felt really groggy and just… bad. Plain bad. They wanted to go back to sleep, but they weren't tired enough, despite the grogginess that refused to fade from their brain.
With nothing else to do, Chester started cleaning the room. Without leaving, they couldn't do much besides organize things and pile all the trash in the corner. Chester put all the parts and bits for the staff bot in its own pile. They put all the undamaged daycare supplies in a neat pile near the door. Once everything was as neat as it was going to get, Chester brushed the dust off on their pants and looked around for something else to do.
Hunger gnawed at Chester's stomach. They were thirsty, too. There wasn't much to be done about it for the time being, so Chester sought distractions instead. Their eyes landed on the pile of staff bot parts. They did still have their tool belt with them.
Without a guide of any sort or any real understanding of what they were doing, Chester found the task of rebuilding the entirely dismantled staff bot to be more than a little difficult. Still, there was nothing else to do, so they got as comfortable as they could and did their best to puzzle it out. They were slow and methodical, ruling out what pieces couldn't go together first, doing trial and error with pieces they thought were likely to go together. Half of the bits were damaged beyond hope, most of them unfortunately being things like joints and connectors. It almost looked like the bot had been ripped apart joint by joint. Still, Chester did what they could with what they had. They tried to picture the staff bots they'd seen in their mind and recall what they could from what they'd read.
It was extremely slow going, but it was going. Without the pressure of the consequence of failure, Chester found that they were actually starting to have fun. Building a robot was cool enough on its own, but this one proved to be particularly interesting. There wasn't much Chester could do about the damaged wiring, but they weren't trying to get the thing to turn on. They just wanted to pass the time putting it back together.
The frame of it was light, but there were loads of small support beams to connect along the frame. The hands were simplistic, just a handful of joints to bolt together. There were small pressure sensors meant to fit into the palms. Chester had seen bigger, more complicated sensors in the diagrams of the main animatronics. The others had sensors all along their fingers as well, not just in the palm, and a few throughout the rest of their frame as well. The sensors told the animatronic when something was touching them, as well as how much pressure was being applied.
They'd actually become so absorbed in their reconstruction of the staff bot that they didn't realize Sun had come into the room until he spoke up, startling them.
"Hello new Chester! Oops, sorry for startling you. I'm just here for a recharge!" Sun strode across the room, opening a panel in the wall near the electrical box. He pulled a long cord from inside, then popped open one of the circular buttons in his chest, revealing the charging port underneath. He plugged the cord into the connecting port and plopped down to the floor, sitting cross legged and leaning back against the wall. The light of his eyes dimmed and he hummed a slow little tune.
"Thank you for the pillow and blanket," Chester signed slowly, unsure if Sun would still be active if he was in the middle of charging.
"Nooo problem friiiend~" Sun drawled. He slowly lifted his hand, staring at it for a moment before it curled into a thumbs up. "I see youuu cleaned up in here! Clean up, clean up…" Sun mumbled a little song, quickly trailing off.
"I did, I hope that's okay." Chester glanced around at their work. The room was still dusty, and there was still that pile of trash in the corner, but it was looking a lot better than before.
"Sureee. I don't mind!" Sun hummed a continuous note for a few seconds. "Sorryyy if I'm a little sloooooow. Everything is running onnnnn power saving mooode while I charge. Can't turn off completelyyy orrrrr my fansss will stooooop running and I'lllllll overrrheat. So for nooooow I'm a littleee slooooooow."
"That's alright." Chester realized they couldn't hear the sound of kids playing anymore. "Is the building closed for the night?"
"Yeeep! All locked up niiice and tight abouuut… fiiiiive minutes agooo." Sun resumed his quiet humming.
"In that case, I'll give you some privacy. My shift starts soon." Chester got to their feet. They changed out of their Hawaiian shirt, swapping it for their work uniform. Nametag in place and their employee profile form secure in their pocket, Chester straightened their hat and made for the door, grabbing their shoes on the way. They paused in the doorway, glancing back at Sun.
Sun barely seemed to notice them. He hummed quietly, but was otherwise still and silent.
"…Thank you for letting me stay here. I'll be back again at the end of my shift," Chester said.
"Youuu betcha," Sun said.
Chester left the room, descending the spiral staircase and making their way out of the daycare.
It was another busy night for Chester, though thankfully far less perilous than last night. They picked through small restaurants in the food court and did their best not to outright chug a large cup of water. Besides their list of tasks to work through, Chester had a few other matters to attend to. Firstly, they wanted to print copies of some of the technical books so they'd have something productive to read during their off hours. Second, they were in desperate need of things like a change of socks, a toothbrush, maybe a comb.
Another visit to lost and found later, Chester was one cheap duffel bag richer. The bag was covered in funky designs and fun colors and, most importantly, could hold the stuff that Chester needed to find. Now that they had a reliable and (mostly) private place to stay, they could store a few things they needed there. And if they, for whatever reason, needed to make a quick getaway, they could just grab their new duffel bag and go.
Chester faced down a gift shop. They stood in the entrance, duffle bag slung over their shoulder. They picked at one of the bag's straps, eyes trailing over shadowed shelves of overpriced merchandise. There wasn't a security guard to watch the cameras. Chester reminded themself that stealing from a large corporation like this wasn't the end of the world. They'd certainly stolen worse for less before.
Chester took a deep breath and stepped inside. They passed racks of sweatshirts and hats and graphic t-shirts all sporting different familiar characters in bold colors. They looked over shelves of plushies and a rotating stand packed with keychains and magnets. They breathed a sigh of relief when they spotted a small selection of socks with funky colorful prints. They grabbed a pack, stowing them away in their duffle bag. In a pack with a compact mirror and a small collection of face paint was a comb and a pair of hair scrunchies. Chester took the pack, mainly interested in the mirror and the comb. They lucked out with a toothbrush, finding a little collection of small kid toothbrushes near the back of the gift shop. Monty's likeliness was depicted on the package, flashing his pearly white gator grin.
They didn't need the notebook, its cover a simple depiction of the Fazbear logo and boasting the inclusion of a free pen and sticker sheet inside. But Chester had frequently wished they'd been able to take notes while they read and while they worked as well, just so they could jot down things they'd figured out on the job or questions they wanted to find the answers to. And besides, they were already stealing several things, what was one more item?
Chester picked up the notebook, but paused before they could put it in their duffel bag. They stared down at it. It looked wrong in their hand.
I don't need this, Chester thought. They set the notebook back in its place. They were stealing enough already, and they really couldn't justify taking the notebook.
Leaving the gift shop behind, Chester zipped up their duffel bag and headed to their first task. The bag was just heavy enough that they couldn't easily forget it was there.
On their way back to the daycare, Chester stopped by a bathroom to clean up and put their new toothbrush to good use. Their gums bled a little, but they were relieved to finally be able to clean their teeth. They broke a tooth of their comb getting their hair under control. It had started to become matted under their hat. They briefly entertained the idea of using the face paint just for fun, but quickly put it out of mind. They grabbed a fresh bandage for their head as well as some cleaning supplies, then returned to the daycare. This time, they remembered to take their shoes off upon entering the daycare.
Sun greeted Chester as they stepped past the double doors. Chester pulled their duffle bag over their shoulder in a small attempt to hide it behind them.
"New Chester!! How was your shift?" Sun asked.
"It went alright, actually. Did you… have a good… charge?" Chester hoped that wasn't weird to ask.
Sun laughed, though not unkindly. "I did! We're all topped off and ready for another fun day tomorrow!" Sun did a fun little twirl.
Chester wasn't sure what to say next. They usually didn't do well with conversations, but they were especially awkward since they were sort of imposing on Sun. They were, more or less, blackmailing him into letting them take over his room. A shot of guilt ran through them.
I'm a horrible person.
Sun spoke up, interrupting Chester's train of thought before it could get too far away from them. "So I've been thinking… since you're going to be staying here for… a while. I thought we should probably be friends! So that way it's not weird or awkward! We can just be friends hanging out together. Won't that be fun??"
"I don't think you want to be friends with me," Chester signed slowly, not meeting Sun's gaze.
"Why wouldn't I??" Sun tilted his head to the side.
Because I'm a bad person. "I'm not a very fun friend," Chester signed.
"Well I'm plenty fun!! I can be fun enough for the both of us," Sun assured. "Why don't we play a game together?"
"A game?" Chester paused. "What kind of game?"
Sun, spurred on by the not outright rejection of the idea, started to ramble excitedly and bounce from foot to foot. "Any kind of game you like!! We've got board games or imaginary games or active games- or we could do something else! We could do arts and crafts, or we could have a sleepover, or we could do a puppet show!"
Chester took a moment to reply, somewhat enamored by how smoothly Sun was bouncing from foot to foot. They wanted to try and give Sun's animatronic guide book another shot, see if they couldn't figure anything out from its pages. "I guess I wouldn't mind a board game."
Sun cheered extatically. "Fantastic!! Great choice! That sounds like so much fun, friend!"
At Sun's further prompting, Chester chose a game from a bookshelf packed full of game boxes at random. They dropped their duffle bag and shoes off upstairs while Sun set up a game called 'Sorry'.
Chester had never played before, so they picked up the instruction booklet and started to read.
"I could explain the rules, if you like!" Sun offered.
"Oh, you don't have to do that," Chester signed quickly.
"What if I want to?"
Chester studied Sun, unable to glean much from his relentless grin. "I suppose that would be alright then, if you really didn't mind."
"I don't mind at all!" Sun assured, then launched into an enthusiastic explanation of the rules. He told Chester how the little pawns worked, and how they traveled clockwise around the board, unless a card said otherwise. There were little 'slides' on the board that Sun was especially excited about. He told Chester about how sometimes you could send another player's pawn all the way back to their starting area, making them start over on their trek to maneuver the pawns all the way around the board and into an area called 'home'.
With the rules out of the way, they were ready to play. Sun got unlucky with the cards and wasn't able to get his first pawn out of the starting area for a few turns, giving Chester a bit of a head start. They started to get the hang of things fairly quickly. The only problem was that their hands would sometimes miss slightly when they went to grab a card or a pawn. They did their best not to be too obvious about it.
Chester's attention moved to Sun's hands as they moved over the board, drawing cards with easy precision and maneuvering pawns across tiles. When they weren't busy with the game, they were busy tapping at the edge of the table or fiddling with the ribbons tied around their wrists. Chester couldn't imagine how many tiny parts and pieces went into just Sun's hand. Every motion was entirely smooth and seamless. Even the glamrocks weren’t as finely crafted as all that. Sun's casing was different as well, not metal like the glamrocks but a more flexible, almost plastic material. Chester wondered if that was part of how he was able to move so quickly and fluidly.
Sun lifted a hand to study it himself. "I don't have something stuck to my hand, do I??"
Chester startled, realizing they'd been staring. Embarrassed, they hurried to explain themself. "You don't, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare. You're just very interesting."
"Interesting??" Sun looked down at his hands. "How do you mean, friend?"
"I don't mean to make you uncomfortable. I apologize," Chester signed in quick motions.
"I'm not uncomfortable! I'm just curious," Sun assured.
Chester considered how to explain their fascination. They signed slowly, piecing together their attempt at the right words as they went. "Robots in general are very fascinating to me. You in particular are interesting for a lot of reasons. Your design is very complex and clearly highly advanced. Your range of motion not only matches but outpaces a human's. I could study just your hand alone for hours and not get bored."
Sun stared at Chester, then looked back down at his hand. "Really?" Sun flexed his fingers experimentally. "No one has ever been so interested in my hand before. One of the other techs once complained for hours and hours about all the little connectors when one of the kids accidentally got glue in the joints and the tech had to clean out all the connectors."
"I couldn't imagine complaining, had I been in their shoes. I'd have counted myself lucky." Chester very much wanted to open up Sun's hand and see all the little joints and connectors for themself, puzzle out how they all fit together and worked to make Sun's hands move as they did. They didn't voice this to Sun of course, fearing they'd make him uncomfortable.
"That's kind of you to say! I think!" Sun waggled his fingers at Chester before setting his hands in his lap. "I do believe it's your turn, friend!"
"Right. Sorry." Chester focused back on the board. They kept their attention on the game, trying not to think about how they were playing a board game with an animatronic. More than that, they were sitting in a daycare, where they currently lived surreptitiously in the walls, because they were hiding out from the police. Not only that, but the animatronic sitting in front of them, as well as the others lurking the halls, were apparently a piece of paper away from manslaughter.
On that note, Chester realized something. They had yet to have to show Sun their employee profile form. "Hey… you don't seem to mind the fact that I don't have an employee profile in the system. Why is that?"
Sun tapped his pawn across its remaining two board tiles, ending his turn. He angled his faceplate up towards Chester. "I did notice, that first day we met! But employee profiles go missing all the time, and your nametag barcode is valid! Even if it is a hand me down." The light in Sun's left eye went dim for a moment before lighting back up, simulating a wink.
Chester picked at the card in their hand. They absently moved one of their pawns forward a few spaces and set their card in the discard pile. "So then… what is it about security mode?"
"What about security mode?" Sun tilted his head curiously.
Chester elaborated, mostly just walking through their own thoughts. "The other animatronics don't seem to mind either, during the day. They probably run through the same things you just did and decide it's not a concern. But at night, when they're in security mode, they get caught up on the missing file. So what is it about being in security mode that makes them unable to come to the same conclusions?"
Sun tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Hm. Well, none of us are really meant to serve as security personnel, so the software we run in security mode is a little restrictive, from my understanding. Any unauthorized person in the building is a security risk. Not that you aren't authorized! Just that you would appear unauthorized without an employee profile. Since you have a valid barcode, I imagine that the two send conflicting messages. And since security mode is so limited, the others probably just get confused as to what to do!"
'Confused' was one way to put it. "Okay… but what about you?"
"Me?" Sun pointed a finger to himself.
"You don't seem… confused," Chester explained.
"Oh, that's probably because I'm not in security mode! I don't ever leave the daycare, so I don't have the software for security mode," Sun said. "My focus is always on the kids!"
"Really?? What happens if you see an intruder or something?" Chester asked.
"…" Sun froze, his fingers pressed flat over the surface of the table. "…I don't need to worry about things like that!"
"Okay." Chester was still confused, but they had a different question to ask. "Why don't you ever leave the daycare?"
"Why would I ever want to leave?? This is the best and most fun place in the whole world! Everything I know is here, and I don't ever need to leave!" Sun laughed.
"Are you allowed to leave?"
"If I'm going to parts and service," Sun answered, sounding a little strained.
"Are you scared to leave?" Chester asked.
"Scared?" Sun tiled his head once more in confusion. He considered the question, fingers tapping away on the table. "What is it like to be scared?"
Chester was a little surprised at the question. They thought about how it felt to be afraid. "For me, it's like lightning in my belly. My brain goes really fast, and it gets hard to breathe. It makes it hard to do certain things. It's difficult to focus on anything besides getting out of danger, whatever the danger may be. It's… particularly unpleasant distress over the possibility of an unfavorable outcome."
Sun nodded slowly. "Yes. I am scared to leave the daycare." He focused on Chester. There was a faint tinge of static in his voice. "I think I'm scared very often."
Chester wasn't sure what to make of that. They signed, "me too."
"You don't ever seem scared," Sun remarked.
"I've been told I'm remarkably unexpressive," Chester said.
Sun hummed thoughtfully. "I'm not good at expressions, either!" He tapped at his cheeks, where his grin came to a point on either side of his face. "The kids don't seem to mind. Some of the adults don't like my smile, but I think they'd like it even less if I was frowning all the time!"
"I like your face," Chester signed, not really considering what they were saying until after it had been said. Their embarrassment didn't have a chance to grow before Sun replied.
"Thank you, friend!! I like your face too!" Sun swayed happily, his faceplate doing a little spin.
Chester laughed quietly. "Thank you."
The rest of the game passed without issue. Sun ended up winning, because Chester refused to make any ‘mean’ moves, even to their own detriment. They felt too bad about knocking Sun’s pawns back to the start, and wound up drawing a lot of progress reversal cards. They didn’t much mind having lost, though. They still had fun.
“It’s about time for me to start getting things ready! The daycare will be open soon!” Sun hummed happily as he packed the game away.
“I should get some sleep anyways. Thank you for the game, Sun.”
“Of course!! We can play again the next night too if you want!” Sun offered.
“Yeah, okay. My shift is really short tomorrow night, I have a day shift the following day. So we should have plenty of time for a game or two,” Chester signed.
Sun seemed absolutely ecstatic about that. He was quite literally jumping for joy, waving his hands around merrily. “I can’t WAIT!! Sleep well, okay?? I’ll see you soon friend!”
Chester gave Sun a little salute before heading up the spiral steps. The little voice in their head wondered if Sun was faking it, or if he actually did enjoy spending time with Chester. Chester couldn’t imagine why Sun would like them, given the situation and their general personality. Maybe he was simply making the best of things and was happy enough that Chester didn’t mind playing along.
Chester put it out of mind for now. They laid back with their pillow and blanket, next to their duffle bag full of stolen goods, and did their best to sleep.
Payday came the day after, on their day shift. Rosa was waiting for them in the employee stock room with a check in hand.
"Do you need any help setting up direct deposit?" Rosa asked.
"Checks are fine," Chester stated.
Rosa shrugged and chugged some coffee from a thermos, then hurried off.
Chester stared down at the check. It hadn't even occurred to them that they'd be getting paid, since the whole thing was just a big ruse. Chester wasn't sure how to feel about the money. They had worked for it, sure. But the job they were working wasn't really theirs. They were an impersonator, an imposter. They'd gotten the job through deceitful means and were lying about their identity, they were only here to hide out from the authorities. However, Chester reasoned that they weren't exactly a stranger to making dirty money. The money wasn't even all that dirty; sure, Chester was living a lie, but the work they were doing was honest. Well, in a sense, anyways. Chester pocketed the check, grabbed their faz-phone from its charger, and punched in for the day.
Finding an ATM machine in the building that offered the option to cash the check was difficult, but there were plenty of ATMs to inspect. With a pocket full of paper bills and their morals wrangled into submission, Chester was absolutely ecstatic, their mind racing with all the food they could buy. Not only would they not have to steal food anymore, but they could buy it hot and fresh, and they could eat as much as they could buy.
On their break, Chester struggled not to weep over their burger and onion rings. They hadn't had a proper meal in so long, they didn't care that it was just bland mall food. To them it was the most wonderful thing they'd ever eaten.
Chester was too busy enjoying their food in the breakroom's back corner to notice at first that someone was actually talking to them.
"Helloo?? Error, Chester not found!"
Chester finally looked up. At the foldout table next to theirs sat a small group of staff members, most of them new faces. The one who'd spoken was a technician, their nametag reading 'Katherine'. They had a choppy buzzcut and a strong jaw. They were smiling at Chester in a way that didn't seem particularly friendly. The others around them were doing a poor job of concealing their laughter.
All at once, Chester was brought back to their school years. They resisted the urge to roll their eyes and brushed their hands off before signing. "Sorry. Did you need something?"
"I was asking why you always sit alone on your break and stare blankly at everything. You some sort of weirdo?" Katherine asked. "Why don't you ever talk to anyone?"
Chester wasn't sure how they were meant to reply to that. They felt that Katherine was trying to poke fun at them, but they couldn't be bothered to care very much. Their coworker being a little mean to them was the absolute least of their worries.
"Uh oh, they must not have a pre-programmed response to that." Katherine looked at their friend group with a smile. "They must get along really well with the robots. That's probably why they came to work here."
"Kat, would you shut the fuck up?"
Everyone turned as another technician stood. She'd been sitting quietly in the opposite corner, and now stood to glower at Katherine. Her name tag read 'Vanessa'.
"Don't be jealous because Chester does a better job than you," Vanessa said. She walked passed Katherine's table and sat herself down at Chester's table.
Katherine scoffed. "As if!"
Vanessa turned to face Chester, ignoring Katherine as she loudly stated, "Don't let Kat bother you. They're a dick but they don't really mean any harm."
Katherine scowled and swiveled in their chair to face away from Vanessa and Chester.
"It's fine, I wasn't bothered," Chester signed.
"My sign is a little rusty, so forgive me if I don't make you suffer through my attempts to sign back," Vanessa said with a smile.
"It's no trouble, I can hear alright," Chester assured. They still had that damn constant ringing in their ears, but they could still hear. The ringing was even ignorable, at times.
"Great! I've decided that we're friends. My name is Vanessa, I can see ghosts and I'm damn good at my job." Vanessa smiled and offered a hand out for Chester to shake.
Chester shook it, studying Vanessa curiously. She had long blonde hair under her hat, pulled back in a ponytail, leaving a pair of dangly bunny shaped earrings on display. Her eyes were big and bright and peered sharply at Chester down a long nose.
"Are there any ghosts around right now?" Chester asked.
Vanessa shook her head. "Nah, most of em don't like the crowds so they stay in the access tunnels during the day. Did you know that this place used to be a diner? The pizza plex as we know it was built on top of the old diner years after the place closed down. They still had animatronics at the diner but they just stayed on the stage and played songs for patrons. Then they started trying to upgrade the animatronics and make them more personable for the crowds and accidentally gave them low level sentience. The animatronics went batshit and killed some people and that's why the old diner shut down."
Chester spent a moment reeling from this information. "I guess the ghosts informed you of that?"
"Yep." Vanessa took one of Chester's few remaining onion rings and ate it. "They rebranded everything, spent a lot of hush money, and opened this place up. Pretty wild, huh?"
"If it's true, yes."
Vanessa winked at Chester. "So, you liking the job? Gonna stick around a while?"
"I think so." Chester nodded. They ate the rest of their food quickly so Vanessa wouldn't steal any more. "How long have you been here?"
"About a year. It's a pretty fun gig, all things considered. It sucks that people come and go so quickly, though. I've been in need of a new buddy to bother since Brandi left," Vanessa said.
"Oh, Brandi quit?? I was wondering, I hadn't seen her in a while."
"Yeah, moved on to bigger and better things. I think a lot of the rumors around here got to her." Vanessa shrugged. "You don't mind the rumors, right?? A lot of them aren't true. No one's ever been killed in the new building. That night guard rumored to have been murdered by a bot one night literally lives in my apartment complex. They work at the grocery store down the street now."
"Has anyone ever been injured on the job?" Chester asked.
"That I can't say. I wouldn't put too much weight in the rumors. People tend to get freaked out by the animatronics just because they're quirky." Vanessa waved a hand. "Anyhoo, my break is almost over. I hear you're usually on the night shift, is that right?"
Chester nodded.
"When's your next day shift?? I'll try to find you and we can take our breaks together. Maybe even double team some tasks?" Vanessa offered.
Chester hesitated, fumbling with their empty plastic plate. They were nervous about the idea of trying to accomplish tasks in front of Vanessa, but at the same time, they might learn a great deal from being able to watch a legitimate technician work.
"Nevermind, I can just check the schedule! I'll see you around, okay?" Vanessa grinned and waved at Chester as she got up and left the break room.
Chester's break was nearly over as well. They carried their plate to the trash, wondering if their newly acquired learnings were of passable skill yet.
"Hey, Chester." Katherine tapped Chester on the shoulder. "Sorry if I pushed any buttons earlier. Listen, I wanted you to make some friends, but… just be careful around Vanessa, alright? She's a little…" Katherine drew a circle beside their head with a finger. "She has, like, full unironic conversations with the custodian bots. Other times she talks to herself and claims to be chatting up ghosts. She's a little coocoo for cocoa puffs, ya know?"
Chester wasn't sure how much weight to put in Katherine's words. They didn't much mind if Vanessa was a little weird anyways. "Thank you for the heads up, but I think I'll be alright."
"Fair enough. See you later, C-bot." Katherine pat Chester on the shoulder and returned to their table.
Chester left the break room, their belly pleasantly full. They put their fellow coworkers out of mind and got back to work. They had a lot of learning and practice to do if they wanted to be sure Vanessa didn't find them out.
"Scuse me!"
Sun shifted the toddler he was currently holding in his arms to better see the child who'd tugged at the leg of his pants. His facial recognition software instantly gave him the child's name- this was little Rachel, who came to visit the daycare every other day. Sun crouched down to be on Rachel's level. "My my, so polite! How can I help you, friend?"
"How come you keep looking at the tower?" Rachel asked curiously, pointing at the tower in question. The red curtain behind the balcony was drawn tight over the room beyond.
Sun hadn't even realized he'd been staring. Thinking back, he supposed he had been keeping a rather close eye on the room. Rachel had always been very observant, for as long as Sun had known her. He tousled her curly hair. "Don't you worry little friend! We just like to keep a close eye on everything. The daycare needs to be in tip top shape so we can all have lots of fun!"
Rachel giggled, slapping her hands over her head to protect her hair from Sun's ruffling. "Tip top shape!"
"That's right! Tip top, tip top!" Sun spun his faceplate. The toddler in his arms reached out their little hands to pat at his face, making a delighted noise. Sun's nearest ray instantly retracted as tiny hands got near.
The motion camera by the door gave Sun a ping. He straightened up and turned to face the new arrival.
"Hellooo there!!" Sun waved at the well dressed man who'd just stepped through the daycare doors. This was a new face, but the daycare pass in his pocket was valid, the name matching the one on his license- Roderick Smith. Sun stepped past a pair of kids playing with glamrock-shaped plushies on his way to greet the man. "Welcome to the superstar daycare! Are you here for a tour? Would you like to register a child?"
Roderick turned his gaze from the daycare to eye Sun over. "Pick up kid," he said, enunciating exaggeratively and speaking a tad louder than was necessary.
"I'm already on it!" Sun bounced the toddler at his hip. The toddler giggled happily and started to play with the bells tied to Sun's wrist.
Roderick did not seem to find Sun's joke amusing. "…Elijah Jones is his name. I'm here to pick him up."
Oh dear, this wasn't good. "I'm sorry sir, but you're not a registered adult! I'm afraid I cannot release young mister Jones into your custody," Sun stated.
"What?!" Roderick planted his fists on his hips. "Why not??"
Sun wasn't a fan of the man's volume. Briefly, he recalled something Chester had said to him; 'it's like lightning in my belly.' Sun felt like his battery was on the fritz, electricity curling in his torso. "It's a safety policy, sir, to protect the children. If you haven't registered then I can't be sure if you're an authorized guardian of a child."
"What are you trying to say? Are you telling me you think I'm trying to steal a kid?!" Roderick fumed. "I'm here to pick up my sister's son, I'm not some sort of criminal!"
"I don't think you're a criminal, it's just that we have to follow all safety procedures-"
"This is ridiculous. Why am I even talking to this thing?? Where's the staff?" Roderick looked around, his eyes landing on the unmanned security desk. "Is there no one watching these kids?!"
The sensation in Sun's torso was different now. It was like he was overheating, even though a quick system scan read normal temperatures. "I am the daycare attendant. Sir." Sun's voice came out tinged with static. Sun had to remind himself of his role. The kids were watching. He should be kind. He did not want to be kind.
"Where is the actual staff??" The man pointed at the empty security desk. "First you make me pay for a pass just to get in this place and now you won't even let me get my kid. You know what? Forget it. I'll just get Elijah myself."
When Roderick started to push past Sun, Sun moved to block his path. He quickly set down the toddler in his arms. "Sir, I cannot release any child into the custody of an unregistered adult."
"Get out of my way, clown!" Roderick snarled.
"Jester," Sun corrected under his breath, volume turned too low for the man to hear. He did not move.
Roderick looked ready to try shoving past again when someone interjected.
"Is there a problem?"
Sun and Roderick turned to see Chester standing a few paces away. Chester was wearing their uniform and their typical stern expression.
"Finally! Get this robot out of my way, I'm here to pick up my kid," Roderick said.
"I heard most of the situation." Chester paused to clear their throat. They hadn't spoken aloud in a long while, and their throat was hoarse. "Did you register yourself as an approved adult?" Chester asked.
Roderick huffed. "No, I didn't realize that was such a big deal. But it's not like I'm trying to steal a kid, which is what your clown robot would have you believe!" Roderick said, gesturing at Sun.
"I don't think you're trying to steal a child, sir," Chester said.
"Thank you!" Roderick shot Sun a mean look.
"However," Chester went on, "We have absolutely no way of verifying that you are who you say you are. We make no exceptions here when it comes to the safety of the children entrusted in our care, as I'm sure you can understand."
The man fumed for a moment. Chester stared him down with a rigid intensity until he wavered.
"Fine. I'll call my sister and get this cleared up." The man stormed out of the daycare, pulling out his phone.
Sun looked at Chester, who relaxed visibly as the man left. Chester offered Sun a smile they hoped was reassuring.
"You didn't have to do that," Sun started.
Chester shot a few signs off before Sun could finish. "That guy was being really rude. You're just doing your job and keeping the kids safe. It’s no trouble to me."
Roderick returned, pocketing his phone. "Alright, she says she added me to her profile, so I should be on the list now or whatever it is. Can I take Elijah and go already?"
Sun confirmed that Roderick was indeed now on the list of registered adults. He left to retrieve Elijah and make sure the boy had all his belongings with him and was ready to go.
Elijah was sad to leave and pouted as he pulled his shoes on, but once he spotted Roderick he lit up again.
"Uncle Rick!!" Elijah ran to Roderick, arms outstretched and making grabby hands at the man. Sun followed behind, watching to be sure Elijah didn't trip in his excitement.
Roderick's face softened as he picked up Elijah. "Hey, kiddo. Your mom sent me to pick you up today, since she's running late at work. You ready to go?"
Elijah nodded. He grabbed Roderick's tie in his tiny fists and started to fiddle with it.
"Sorry for the inconvenience, sir," Chester said, fighting to remain civil.
"Yeah. Keep your robot in check next time," Roderick said.
Sun bristled. I am kind, he reminded himself. Even when others are not.
Chester scowled. "Sun was right and you were wrong."
Roderick, who had turned and was halfway out the door, stopped and stared at Chester. "Excuse me??"
Chester almost regretted saying anything. Their throat felt dry and they hated the way Roderick was glaring at them. Still, they forced out the words, fueled by something hot deep in their chest. "Sun was doing his job and keeping the kids safe. You were the one behaving improperly. Keep yourself in check next time."
Roderick gasped. Chester shut the door in his face.
Sun stared blankly at Chester as they turned back around, staring at the ground as if surprised at their own actions.
Sun finally spoke. "Chester-"
"I'm sorry," Chester signed quickly. "I shouldn't have been mean to him. I don't know what came over me. I don't even know why I…" Chester looked at the door to the tower. "I'm sorry."
Sun ran another system check. The check assured that nothing was overheating, but Sun was doubtful. "Chester. Thank you," Sun said earnestly. "That was… thank you."
Chester smiled. "I hope he doesn't complain and get you in trouble."
"Me? You're the one who was short with him." Sun laughed. He turned his attention back to the toddler he'd set down earlier, who was pulling at the bottom of his pants and making grabby hands at Sun so he'd pick them back up.
Chester paled. "…You don't think I'd get fired for that, do you?"
"I'm sure if you explain the situation your manager would understand!" Sun assured. "I wouldn't worry, good technicians are hard to come by, so they wouldn't want to get rid of you."
"Right." Chester took a deep breath. "Let me know if you need anything." They retreated back up the spiral steps and into the tower room.
Sun watched them go until his attention was pulled elsewhere, spotting some kids getting a little too rowdy.
Chester kept to their room the rest of the day, though they kept an ear out for any more trouble.
That night, once all the kids had gone home and the pizza-plex was closed and locked up tight, Chester eagerly headed for the food court while Sun plugged himself in for a charge. Chester was starving. That, and the ease of what had become routine of hitting up the line of little restaurants in the food court, meant that they weren't as careful as they should have been.
Chester was halfway through a small cup of pre-cooked frozen onion rings when they heard a noise coming from the back end of the restaurant. Dread froze them to the spot as their head snapped up. They'd been caught red handed.
The animatronic was hunched in the back corner of the restaurant, partially hidden by a shelf full of canned unprepped toppings. She looked up in surprise upon noticing Chester was there. Her hands were buried in an overturned garbage can.
Chester stared at Chica, her hands full of garbage. There was a mess of it on her face as well. Chica stared at Chester, their onion rings in hand and packed in their cheeks.
"I won't tell if you wont tell??" Chica offered.
Chester nodded.
The two went back to their business. Chester finished their onion rings quickly and hurried out of the restaurant.
The rest of their shift passed without issue. After their run in with Chica, Chester was on high alert and avoided the other animatronics with relative ease. They kept an ear out for the sound of jingling bells, but they hadn't seen the animatronic who'd attacked them since the incident. They did bump into that one custodian bot, the one wearing the blue cap. The bot stared at them with an unwavering gaze. Chester wondered briefly about the bot. None of the other bots stared at them. Well, the wet floor sign bots did, but they always looked away if Chester noticed.
Chester made quick work of their tasks, managing to get quite a few done. They’d lucked out with a bunch of easier ones, all simple repairs and easy replacements. They were back in the daycare before they knew it.
Once again, Sun rattled off an impressive list of activities for them to do. Chester tried to get Sun to pick the game tonight, but Sun insisted that he would have fun regardless of what Chester picked. True to his word, when Chester suggested they sit and draw, Sun happily got out all the drawing supplies and laid them out on one of the kiddie tables.
Chester decided against trying to sit in one of the tiny toddler chairs and sat on the floor instead, legs folded beneath the table. Sun on the other hand, settled his comically tall frame precariously atop one of the chairs and immediately got to doodling.
It took Chester two tries to grab the pencil they were after. They felt like their aim was starting to get better, but it was still frustrating trying to pick up smaller items.
"How are you feeling, friend?" Sun asked lightly.
Chester shrugged. They signed with their free hand, mostly focusing on what they were drawing. "I'm alright. I have been constantly groggy. At least my headache is getting better."
"Have you been dizzy at all? I noticed you sometimes have trouble getting up the stairs," Sun remarked.
"You noticed?" Chester paused, feeling slightly embarrassed. They'd thought they had been doing an ok job of hiding it.
Sun had stopped drawing and was now giving Chester his full attention. "Have you been feeling nauseous? Bothered by lights or noises? Having trouble concentrating?"
"What's with all the questions?" Chester huffed. They didn't meet Sun's gaze. "Don't worry about me, Sun. I'm alright."
"Chester, you may have a concussion."
Chester stared down at their pencil. They knew they weren't doing great, but there really wasn't anything to be done about it. They glanced up as they spied a strange blue light flashing in Sun's eyes.
"When did you hit your head?? Chester, I think you need to see a medical professional." The concern was transparent in Sun's tone.
Chester realized Sun must have just scanned them. They pulled their hat down tighter over their head. "Right. I'll… I'll do that." Chester didn't enjoy lying, but they couldn't exactly explain why they couldn't leave the complex. They busied themself with drawing.
Sun wrung his hands together, the bells on his wrists jingling from the worried motions. His sunrays all shrank in, slowly popping back out one by one. "Are you scared of the doctor? Don't worry, lots of kids think the doctor is scary! But its their job to help you, and I hear they give you a lollipop when you're done!"
He'd seen right through their lie. Chester kept sketching, just so they didn't have to look at Sun. "Not that I don't love a good lollipop, but I really can't go to a doctor right now." Chester risked a glance at Sun, who had folded in on himself and was now bouncing his leg. "I'm sorry for lying."
"You are forgiven." Sun put his hands on his knees, forcing his leg to still. "We're just worried about you, friend."
Chester's hand stilled. They put their pencil down. "Why?"
"What do you mean, why?"
Chester looked at Sun incredulously. "Why are you worried about me?? Why would you care about me? I'm the asshole who blackmailed you into letting me take your room! Sun, I'm not a good person."
"No bad language in the daycare," Sun said on impulse, though he rushed to turn the volume down as he ran the line. He quickly put his volume back up to normal and carried on. "You're not a bad person just because you don't have anywhere else to stay!! Really, we don't mind you staying here at all!"
Chester wasn't sure where this was coming from. All of a sudden they were feeling a horrible rush of guilt and anger with themself. Here they were, making bad choices and hurting people, even though they could now afford the choice. They'd done nothing but steal and lie and deceive and hurt since they'd gotten here, since they'd gotten away. "I threatened to tell on you about the lights if you didn't do what I said. That was wrong of me! I shouldn't treat you like that. No one deserves to be treated like that." Chester took a moment, clenching their shaking hands into fists. They squeezed their eyes shut and breathed, calming down before going on. "I'm so sorry, Sun. You've been unreasonably kind to me, and I've been…" Chester stared down at the table. What were they doing here? Sitting here, drawing with Sun, pretending to be his friend. "I'm sorry. You can have your room back. I won't tell anyone about the lights, I promise."
Chester stood up, planning to grab their duffel bag and leave the daycare. Sun shot up as well, surprising Chester when he grabbed their arm to stop them.
"Chester… thank you for the apology. I know you don't want to tell me why you don't have anywhere else to stay, but that's okay. You don't have to. You are in need of help, and I want to do whatever I can do to help you. I don't think you're a bad person. A bad person wouldn't have helped me deal with an upset guardian, wouldn't have been kind and polite to me, wouldn't have gotten so upset over being mean to me. You can stay in my room for as long as you need, okay?" Sun slowly released Chester's arm, as if they might flee if he moved too quickly.
Chester had no idea what to say. They lifted their hands to sign, only to lower them again. Their eyes threatened to water, but they quickly fought back the tears. They took another deep breath. "I don't know what to say. Thank you, Sun."
Sun's head did a quick spin. "Of course, dear. I'm not mad or upset with you. Will you stay?"
Chester thought about going back to their little supply closet, maybe stowing their stuff away in one of the empty employee lockers. They looked at Sun, tried to imagine never coming back to the daycare. "…Are you certain you don't mind me staying?"
"Not in the slightest. I promise," Sun assured.
"Okay… I'll stay. Thank you," Chester signed.
Sun wrapped Chester up in a big hug, squeezing them tightly. Startled, Chester let out a nervous little laugh and awkwardly pat Sun's back.
"Would you like to keep drawing? We can talk about something else if you want," Sun offered, releasing Chester.
"Yeah, okay," Chester agreed. They returned to the table with Sun and took a deep breath as they picked their pencil back up (they even managed to grab it on the first try).
"Sooo have you been making any friends?" Sun asked. He went back to doodling, amassing a collection of colored pencils and crayons.
"Actually yeah. I think. Her name is Vanessa, she's a technician. I'm told she's weird, but I'm also told that I'm weird. I think Vanessa is alright," Chester signed. "I've also been getting along with Monty, the gator guy. One of the golf club dispensers in Gator Golf got jammed, and he roped me into a game since he was kinda bored. It was right during lunch time and there weren't a lot of people there."
"That sounds like fun!!" Sun bounced happily in his seat.
"Do you have any friends?" Chester asked, returning the question.
"I've got lots and lots of wonderful friends!! The kids are all so sweet and we have so much fun together! Sometimes Freddy or Chica will stop by and pay me a visit too. Freddy is very polite, like you! Have you met him?? I think you two would get along great."
Chester recalled almost bumping into Freddy the night they'd snuck into the complex. They'd been avoiding him and the other animatronics to the best of their ability since. "Not yet," they signed. "Hey… how many animatronics are there?"
Sun ticked off his fingers as he counted the animatronics. "There's the four glamrocks, Freddy, Roxy, Monty, Chica, and there's also DJMM, and of course, yours truly!" Sun put a hand to his chest, popping his sunrays in and out all at once.
That… wasn't right. Chester hadn't gotten the best look at the animatronic who'd bashed their head in, but they'd seen enough to know he wasn't any of the others. "Are you sure there's not one more?"
Sun's hand twitched. He lowered it to the table. "…What?"
"I… met… another animatronic a while ago. He had red eyes and a circle head like yours. I didn't get a great look at him, it was dark and…" and he was hard to see while he was chasing me and bashing my head into the ground, "I do remember bells? There were jingling bells on his costume."
Sun sat absolutely frozen. No bouncing leg or tapping fingers, no loading symbol sunrays. He stared at his page full of doodles, but the hand holding the crayon was still.
Chester glanced up at Sun. They wondered if he was thinking. Chester was about to prompt Sun when he suddenly snapped to attention.
"How strange!" Sun sounded strained. "How did. How did you meet this bot?"
It was Chester's turn to freeze. They couldn't let Sun or anyone else know about the incident. "It was just a brief meeting. Didn't even say much. Who knows, he could have just been one of Vanessa's ghosts," Chester joked.
"Who's to say?" Sun laughed, though the sound came out high pitched and strained. "Say, what are you drawing over there??"
Chester looked down at their sketch, gladly accepting the change in topics. "Just a rough diagram of Freddy. I've been reading those technician books all day long, I see diagrams every time I close my eyes."
"That's a very good drawing! You even got the little compartment on his arm where he keeps his spare microphone," Sun remarked, leaning over the table to look.
"Yeah! You all have these neat little details like that built in, it's really fascinating. Like how Chica's voice box has all this extra space for downloading voice files, so she can impersonate or mimic the others. That way she can cover for them in performances if someone else has technical issues. Or how Roxy's eyes can see through walls, so she always knows where everyone else is on the bumper car race track." Chester paused, wondering if that was why Roxy had found them so easily their first night shift, despite their attempts at avoiding the animatronics.
"My voice box is like Chica's! Mine can even create new voice files, so we can do all sorts of fun voices for story time," Sun said.
"Really?? That's cool!" Chester paused and looked up at Sun. "Hey, I've noticed that you sometimes say 'we' or 'us'. Can I ask why that is?"
"…I would appreciate if you didn't," Sun said.
"That's okay. I've got secrets too." Chester didn't press the matter. "What are you drawing?"
Sun relaxed, straightening his posture as he held up his paper for Chester to see. "It's a cozy little cottage and a creek in a field of wildflowers," he explained.
"Wow, that's amazing!"
"Thank you, but I can't take all the credit. I just copied this from a picture I found online. I thought it was really pretty so I wanted to draw it," Sun said.
Sun and Chester drew and talked about easy things for the rest of the night, until it was time for Sun to prepare the daycare. Chester tried to help clean up the art supplies, but Sun insisted he could handle it. Chester ascended the spiral stairs and listened to the faint sounds of Sun rushing around the daycare as they fell asleep.
best day ever checklist.
Pairing: Owen Joyner x reader
word count: 7.6k+
an: I originally posted this on a different blog but I’m moving it here! for the sake of this, pretend he’s living in LA again lmao other than that, this is just pure cuteness that I dreamed up : ) let me know what you think!
You really should have known better. Falling in love with your best friend was a disaster waiting to happen. It was the storyline to so many romantic comedies, but honestly, in the real world, things didn’t quite work out the way they did in the movies. Sure, it was a nice thought, but experience had told you that it wasn’t real. It was like fairytales and pixie dust. Things like that just didn’t exist.
So, why would you do this to yourself? It wasn’t like you had done it on purpose, but it wasn’t like you tried to stop it either. The way you fell for him stemmed from a culmination of things. From laughing at his jokes, to laying your head in his lap while you watched movies. From late night drives around the city, to pulling pranks on your grouchy old neighbors that undoubtedly hated your guts. You and Owen were two peas in a pod, and you enjoyed his company more than anything else. However, you couldn’t have him in the way you wanted, and that point was made glaringly obvious when you saw the shared post on his Instagram story that morning.
She was pretty, you couldn’t deny that. Lush blonde hair, perfect eyebrows, and a bright smile almost as captivating as the boy in the picture with her. Almost. You couldn’t stop staring and your stomach wouldn’t stop rolling as you tried to place where you had seen her before. She didn’t look familiar, but if Owen was posting pictures with her, you had to have met her before. Unless he had been hiding her from you. But that was so very un-Owen-like that you knew that wasn’t the case. Her name on her Instagram handle didn’t ring any bells so maybe you had purposely blocked her existence out of your mind because you didn’t want to feel like you did right now. A whole lot of good that did you.
You eventually shoved your phone as far away from you as you could as you laid your head back down on your pillow in defeat. You hated this. You knew that you shouldn’t allow yourself to feel this much sadness over something that really had nothing to do with you, but you couldn’t help it. Your heart ached as you thought about the part of him that this new girl was getting to have, and you pushed your face deeper into the pillow as you let out a low groan.
After a few minutes of wallowing, you finally pulled yourself from your bed and started getting ready for the day. You originally had plans to hang out with Owen and some of his friends, but now you were wondering if that was such a good idea. Would she be there? Would you have to pretend that you were happy all day while you watched the two of them fawn all over each other? It sounded like a terrible idea, but you also knew, deep down, that you couldn’t cancel. You couldn’t let your best friend down just because you had caught feelings. No, you were better than that.
You were just finishing up with your hair when you heard Owen’s ringtone sound from the other room. You had forgotten your phone on your bed, and you hurried back to your bedroom to grab it, swiping accept on his call on the fourth ring.
“Hello?”
“Open your door, I’m outside,” Owen ordered, though you could hear the smile in his voice. You rolled your eyes, though he couldn’t see it, and turned to make your way to the front door.
“Do you have breakfast?” you asked, and Owen scoffed on the other end of the line.
“I know better than to show up at YN YLN’s house in the morning empty-handed,” he replied, and a bright smile spread across your lips as you lifted your hand to release the lock on your door, your hand then falling to the knob to pull it open.
As soon as your eyes met his, he lowered his phone from his ear and held out the brown bag in his other hand.
“For you,” he smiled, and your heart jumped in your chest. You happily took the bag from his hand and then stepped to the side so that he could enter your apartment.
He wasn’t wearing anything extravagant, but he still had a way of stealing your attention with the simplest of outfits. Today, it was a plain white crewneck sweatshirt, a pair of black jeans, and his favorite black baseball cap sitting backwards on his head covering up his soft blonde hair. It had gotten longer recently, and he had yet to cut it, which personally, you were grateful for.
You sighed happily as you peaked into the bag before shutting your front door, seeing that he remembered to get your favorite breakfast sandwich as well as an extra serving of hash browns. You turned to thank him, only to see that he had already made his way to the kitchen, and you quickly followed behind him.
“So, what’s the plan for today?” you asked, as he took a seat on one of the barstools at your counter. He looked up at you as he shrugged, his elbows leaning against the edge of the countertop.
“I figured we’d just hang out. You know, the usual,” he replied, and your brow furrowed slightly.
“I thought we were meeting with your friends?” you asked, and almost immediately, Owen’s cheeks turned pink.
“O-oh right. Yeah, they cancelled. Said they couldn’t come. But it’s alright that it’s just the two of us… right?” He sounded a little panicked, which was completely unlike him, as you quirked your head curiously.
“Of course, it is. Why wouldn’t it be?” Owen sat up a bit straighter as he shrugged again, but he didn’t say anything more.
Instead of focusing on his weirdness, you went back to unwrapping the breakfast that he had brought for you, and you moved to take the seat next to him after grabbing a glass of water. You hummed happily as you took the first bite, and when Owen looked over at you, you gave him a tight-lipped smile. He just laughed and shook his head in response.
If you were being honest, you had already forgotten about the Instagram photo. You had forgotten all about the pretty blonde girl and who she could be, because right now, it was just you and Owen. It didn’t matter if there were other people around, and a lot of the time, you liked it better this way. It was like this so often, it was second-nature at this point. It was easy.
“Actually, I was thinking that we could go for a drive,” Owen spoke as he noticed that you were almost finished with your breakfast. You nodded eagerly, excited for a day of just listening to music and driving around the city, one of your favorite ways to spend time with your best friend. In the confines of his car, it was easier to pretend like the two of you were the only ones in the world, and you didn’t have to share his attention with anyone else.
As this thought passed through your mind, you realized just how selfish that was, but you also couldn’t find it in yourself to care.
Once you were completely finished, you threw your trash away and then moved back towards your front door to grab your shoes. Owen was quick to follow you as he grabbed your keys from the table just inside the door, and you smiled gratefully at him when he handed them to you.
The two of you talked a bit as you made your way down to his car, and you were a little surprised to see some bags sitting in his backseat.
“What’s all of that?” you asked, as you pulled open the passenger’s side door and climbed into your seat. Your head turned to look over your shoulder to see what the bags could contain, but Owen had used double bags and even tied the top of them together so that you couldn’t see inside.
“Don’t worry about those,” he murmured, and when you looked over at him questioningly, he avoided your gaze. For a moment, he was back to acting weird, and you still hadn’t figured out why.
“Ooookay,” you replied dramatically before resting against the back of the seat, your eyes peering outwards across the hood of the car. You could feel that Owen was hiding something from you, and you had no good guesses as to what it could be.
But then you remembered his Instagram story.
You tried to pretend like you were just quietly looking out the window, but when Owen started to pull out of the parking lot to your complex, he noticed your sudden silence.
“Are you alright?” he asked, his gazing fixing on you for a minute before pulling out onto the main street. “You’ve been weirdly quiet this morning.”
You should have known that Owen would notice. Owen noticed pretty much everything when it came to you. Well, aside from you being hopelessly in love with him, anyways. While you thought he was acting strange, he was thinking the same thing about you. The irony almost made you laugh.
“And you keep dodging my questions,” you retorted sassily, and you saw his face flush once again. This was not the drive that you had been expecting or hoping for, and you couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed as you turned back to stare out the window. The music that was playing through the stereo of Owen’s car was the only sound that could be heard as a heavy silence fell over the two of you.
“I swear the bags will make sense later,” Owen offered a few minutes later, finally breaking the tension that had filled the air. It wasn’t like the two of you to argue, and you knew that if you hadn’t seen his story earlier that day, you wouldn’t be reacting to his passive response in this way.
You looked over at him, and when he felt your eyes on him, he glanced over again as he flashed you a small smile.
“I promise.”
You knew that you were being silly getting so worked up over it all, and you took a deep breath as you were ready to expel it away. You didn’t want your day to be ruined just because you couldn’t contain your feelings, and with one last shake of your head in attempt to loosen the grip of the thought from your mind, you smiled back at your best friend.
“I’m sorry, you don’t… you don’t have to explain it,” you sighed, and Owen glanced over at you again as he came to a stop at a red light.
“Is something wrong?” he asked, seemingly sensing that there was something else that you weren’t saying. If you weren’t upset with him about his avoidance of wanting to talk about the materials in the back of the car, he wasn’t sure what could have been causing your rapid shift in mood.
“No,” you answered quickly, maybe a little too quickly, before reaching for the volume control of the radio. “Besides, this is my favorite song. I can’t feel bad during my favorite song.” Owen didn’t miss the way that you admitted to feeling bad in the first place, but he knew that this was indeed your favorite song, and he wasn’t about to ruin it for you.
The two of you sang together for a little while, and by the end of the fifth song, you had caught on to the direction that he was driving. At first, you thought that he had just been aimlessly driving through the streets of L.A., but then you realized that he was indeed heading in a particular direction.
“Are we going to the beach?” you asked excitedly, turning the radio volume down once again just as Owen was in the middle of belting out the bridge to the song that was playing.
“Excuse me, you threw off my rhythm,” he huffed playfully, and you rolled your eyes.
“You didn’t tell me we were going to the beach! I didn’t bring anything with me!” you cried indignantly, though you weren’t really that upset. The beach was your favorite place, and despite whether you were dressed appropriately or not, you knew that you were going to have a good time.
“If I told you it would ruin the surprise,” he murmured under his breath, and when you asked him to repeat himself, he just shook his head. It was just another strange behavior from him to add to the day, but now you were too happy about your ending destination to even think about being upset.
You fell into a comfortable silence as you tapped your feet to the rhythm of the songs on the radio, your eyes watching as the familiar scenery leading up to your favorite place passed by outside of the car window. Owen didn’t seem to feel the need to fill the silence, but that wasn’t uncommon either. You were so comfortable with one another, you didn’t have to be talking the entire time to enjoy the time you spent together.
About fifteen minutes later, Owen was pulling into a parking spot, and you were just about to jump out when he reached over to stop you.
“I need you to stay in the car,” he said as his bright blue eyes met yours. Confusion washed over you as your hand that had just reached for the door handle fell back into your lap.
“But… why?” you asked, as you searched his face for any kind of expression giveaways that you might find there. You were sure, once again, that he was hiding something from you, but you didn’t really know how to feel about it.
“Just trust me, please? I just… you have to promise that you won’t leave this car until I come back for you.” His words were earnest, and you could see the pleading in his expression as he spoke them. He looked nervous for a guy that was just hanging out with his best friend, and you were dying to know why.
“Owen, what-“ you started, but his hand gently squeezed your arm, and the rest of your words died on your lips.
“Promise me.”
You felt your heart sink to your stomach as you tried to put two-and-two together. He had brought you to the beach but hadn’t even given you a heads up about it so that you could prepare. Were you actually going to be staying at the beach or was this just the first stop of the day? And why didn’t he want you to get out with him? Was he meeting someone else here? Was he meeting her?
Regardless of how nauseous the thought made you, you knew that you had to do as he asked. No matter what, he was still your best friend and you trusted him until he gave you a logical reason not to. So, instead of protesting more, you slowly nodded, and Owen flashed you a smile before quickly turning away to open his own car door. You watched as he stepped towards the backseat, and then pulled its door open so that he could grab one of the bags. There were three of them, and you were a bit surprised that he only took one, but then again, you had no idea what they were for anyways. Maybe he was making deliveries.
He moved quickly as he shut the backdoor and then hurried in the direction of the beach. He disappeared around the corner of one of the buildings that housed bathrooms and outdoor showers so that you could no longer see what he was doing. Somehow, this made the sinking feeling in your chest even worse.
You tried to push away the thoughts of the pretty blonde girl, but you couldn’t help it. While you waited, you pulled out your phone, and while you knew that you shouldn’t, you pulled up Owen’s Instagram story again. The picture was still there, and you let out a heavy sigh as you clicked on the picture to take you to her profile. If you were going to hurt yourself, you figured that you might as well go all the way.
Your breath caught in your throat when you saw that the picture in Owen’s story was the most recent picture she had posted. You clicked on the picture to see the caption, and you were a little disappointed to see that it was just a simple sun emoji. There was no giveaway to what kind of relationship they had, and as far as you could tell, it was the only picture she had of the two of them together. So, what were they?
By the time you closed the app, there was a sizable pit that had formed in your stomach and you leaned your head back against the headrest of the passenger’s seat. It had been about ten minutes now since Owen had disappeared and you were starting to grow concerned on when he might return. The longer he was gone, the more your doubts started to build. He had said when he was in your apartment that it was just going to be the two of you, so what was taking so long?
It was another ten minutes before you saw him round the corner again, heading back in your direction. He had his hands shoved in his pockets, and his eyes were focused on the ground in front of him. Your heart stuttered in your chest, much like it always did when you saw him, and when he lifted his gaze to meet yours through the windshield of his car, butterflies erupted in your stomach. He stuck his tongue out at you teasingly, and much to your surprise, instead of walking over to his side of the car, he came to a stop outside of your door before pulling it open.
“Let’s go.” It wasn’t a question, and while you had previously convinced yourself that this wasn’t a stop you were meant to get out at, you jumped at the opportunity. You quickly unbuckled your seatbelt, and Owen held out his hand for you to take as he helped you to your feet.
“Seriously, what is going on?” you asked as Owen dropped your hand and closed the car door behind you. There was an odd look on his face now, though he was trying to hide it with a smile.
“I’m going to show you, calm down,” he teased, as he shoved his hands back into his pockets and led you in the direction that he had just come from. You bumped his shoulder as you walked, and he pulled his hand out of his pocket so that he could wrap his arm around you, pulling you into his side. He ruffled your hair slightly, causing you to protest through a fit of giggles, but you didn’t move to pull away. Once again, you had your easy-going best friend back in a position that was so common it was second-nature.
You were so caught up in the sudden playfulness, that you almost didn’t see the set up in front of you. You didn’t see the white volleyball sitting next to one of the beach’s sand volleyball courts, and you didn’t see the basket with a small blanket laid out underneath. It wasn’t until Owen pulled you to a stop and finally dropped his arm back to his side, that you seemed to notice what was going on outside of him.
“What… what is this?” you asked, as you looked from the little set-up and then back to your best friend. He was rubbing the back of his neck nervously, but then gestured towards the paper that was sitting on the small blanket- something that you hadn’t noticed was there just a moment ago.
“If you read that, it might explain it.”
You didn’t completely understand why he couldn’t just tell you, but you were curious enough that you did what he said. When you leaned down next to the basket, you saw two of yours and Owen’s favorite sports drinks and a change of clothes for you. You looked up at him briefly, but he nodded for you to read the letter, and you sighed as you picked up the piece of paper.
Welcome to the best day ever! It read. The first stop on our adventure today is partaking in one of our favorite beach activities: volleyball! While this is stop number one, there will be a total of three stops that will take place throughout the day. If at any point you want to stop and go home… well too bad! Ha, just kidding : ) but seriously… change into the volleyball clothes I brought and prepare yourself for a wild and crazy day.
You didn’t understand. You had no idea why he was doing this. It wasn’t your birthday and you were sure that it wasn’t any kind of special day regarding your friendship. When you looked up at him again, he had slipped off his hat so that he could remove his crewneck to show that he was wearing a tank top underneath it. You swallowed hard as you tried your hardest to keep your gaze fixed above his neck, and when he looked back at you, you raised the paper questioningly.
“This doesn’t explain anything,” you said, and Owen laughed as he leaned down next to you.
“Sure it does. It tells you exactly what we’re doing, and what you need to do. So, take those clothes, head over to those bathrooms over there, and let’s get this day started!”
You gave him another pointed look before looking down at the clothes that he was talking about. They definitely weren’t yours, and for a second, your heart stopped. Did these belong to the other girl? Surely he wasn’t crazy enough to borrow something from her for you to wear… would he? He could be kind of clueless sometimes, and if you really thought about it, you might have believed it. But then, you went to pick them up and saw that they still had tags on them, and you knew that they had been recently purchased.
“How did you know my size?” You asked, as you looked over the tank top and the shorts. You were going to poke fun at him over the fact that the tank top said ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ across the front of it, but you had bigger questions that you needed answers to in that moment.
“You’ve been my best friend forever, YN. You think I haven’t caught on to something like that?” He teased, and you rolled your eyes. Then, another thought occurred to you.
“Not all of this stuff should have fit in that bag from earlier. How… how did you get this stuff here?” Your eyes met Owen’s, and there was a soft look in his eye despite another faint blush flowing across his cheeks.
“You sure ask a lot of questions when I’m just trying to do something nice for you. Could you just go change so that I can beat you at volleyball like I always do?” You scoffed this time as you grabbed the new outfit and rose to your feet.
“You wish, Joyner,” you huffed, and Owen laughed as you turned to head to the nearest bathroom building. You weren’t overly fond of the idea of changing in a public bathroom like this one, but you were also eager to get back to him, so you didn’t waste any more time.
The clothes fit perfectly, and as soon as you stepped back out onto the beach, your mind started working itself into overdrive again. Owen had arranged ‘the best day ever’ for you, and you still had no idea why. By all accounts, you felt like you weren’t the person this should have been meant for, considering the social media post in the past 24 hours. You had no idea what was going on, and you wanted to ask him about it, but he seemed prepared to derail the conversation at a moment’s notice and you weren’t sure that you would get the answer you were looking for.
When you returned to him, he was sitting on the edge of the blanket, his phone in his hand as he looked up at you. A bright smile spread across his lips as you threw your previous outfit on the blanket next to the basket, and you bent over to grab the volleyball.
“Well, shall we battle?” You asked, a teasing lilt in your voice as Owen pulled himself to his feet.
“You’re on, YLN.”
You ended up winning 21 to 16, much to Owen’s disappointment. Or, at least you assumed he was disappointed though he never truly showed it. You knew that he was competitive, but he didn’t seem bitter in the slightest, though you made it no secret that you were happy that you had won.
“Man, if this day is filled with more activities that I can kick your butt at, this really will be the best day ever,” you laughed as you made your way back to the blanket, and when you glanced over at him, Owen rolled his eyes.
“The sun… was distracting me,” he replied weakly, and you playfully shoved his shoulder.
“Just admit it, I beat you, fair and square.”
“I would never do such a thing.”
You reached down to grab the drinks that Owen had brought out of the small basket, and handed the one that you knew he had picked out for himself before twisting the cap off of yours.
“Thanks for this, by the way. My favorite flavor and everything,” you grinned just before taking a long drink. The California sun had been beating down on your for the past hour or so, and you were parched.
“I know it is,” Owen replied gently before taking a drink of his own. It was the little comments like that that were throwing you off because he wasn’t saying them loud enough for you to think that you were meant to hear them, but he also didn’t say them quiet enough that you couldn’t make out the words. For now, you decided to ignore them in hopes that maybe something in the next two stops would help you understand.
“So, where are we off to next?” You asked, as Owen flopped down onto the blanket and you settled yourself down next to him. He looked over at you, his baseball cap now sitting next to him as he carded his fingers through his hair.
“You really don’t want any of this to be a surprise, do you?” He asked, a smile in his voice as you shrugged before taking another sip of your drink.
“I just know you aren’t good at keeping secrets, and I don’t like not knowing what’s going on in that head of yours,” you replied honestly, and you watched as another unknown look crossed his face. He was quiet for a minute, but then he turned his eyes to look back out over the sand.
“Well, whenever you get changed, if you want to, we can head out.”
Your heart jumped in your chest as you reached over to grab the clothes that you had been wearing when you arrived, and you ran back over to the changing rooms. You glanced over your shoulder as you walked, and you just about stumbled over yourself when you saw that Owen had slipped off his tank top and was just sitting on the blanket, shirtless, with his crewneck in his hands. He was looking at something in his lap, you assumed his phone, and you had to tear your gaze away from him before he caught you looking.
You really had to pull yourself together.
You changed a little bit slower this time, and you didn’t allow your thoughts to drift. This day was confusing enough, and you had overthought everything to the point that none of it made any sense. Maybe it was simple. This was just a nice day that your best friend had planned for you. He wanted to make you smile, that was it.
By the time you returned back to his side, Owen had already cleaned everything up, and had it stuffed back in the two bags that he had previously had wrapped inside of each other.
“You ready?” He asked with another bright smile, and you nodded as you followed him back to the car. It was a short trip to the beach, but it was a nice one, and you made sure to thank him as you were walking.
“You don’t have to thank me,” he replied as he glanced over at you. “It’s just something that I wanted to do.” You wanted to ask him why but once again, you refrained, and just climbed into the passenger’s seat of his car with a soft smile on your face.
Your next stop turned out to be a nice lunch at your favorite restaurant. It had been ages since you had come here, especially with Owen, and you could feel the excitement rising inside you. You had been craving it for weeks, and you were sure the only reason he had brought you here was because he had gotten sick of hearing you complain about how much you missed it.
“Before we go in,” Owen started, his hand reaching out to stop you again as you reached for the handle of the car door. Like at the beach, you looked back over at him, but he was already digging into the backseat for one of the other bags. When he finally came back to the front of the car, he handed you the bag, but started pulling some of the contents out of it.
“Owen, what are we-“ Before you could even finish the sentence, Alex was swiping his baseball cap off his head and quickly replacing it with a black top hat that he had pulled out of the bag. It was soon followed by a monocle, and he also produced the red silk that you knew was one of his bowties.
You had already started laughing, but when you saw the rest of the contents of the bag, you really couldn’t stop. There was a big, black floppy hat, a pair of oversized sunglasses, and a bright red dress that you had never seen before.
“So, you’re going to have to somehow sneak this in so you can change in the bathroom but… fancy lunch date, anyone?” Alex asked, his voice light as you finally managed to look back up at him. There were tears building in your eyes over how much you were laughing, and you couldn’t help but think that he was the most ridiculous person that you had ever met. And you were lucky enough to call him your best friend.
“You’re a crazy person,” you giggled, and Owen shrugged as he turned to flip down his rearview mirror so that he could work his bow tie. “Why didn’t you just have me put this one at the beach?” The question caused him to freeze, and you knew immediately that he hadn’t thought of that.
“It’s more fun this way,” he reasoned, and you rolled your eyes as you wrapped your hand tightly around the handles of the bag and then reached for the car door once again.
“I’ll meet you in there then?” You asked, and Owen nodded, his attention focused on the task at hand.
You felt a little nervous as you walked inside and moved past the host to head to the bathroom. When you came out, you weren’t going to look like the same person at all, and you found yourself wishing more and more that Owen had asked you to do this before you left the beach. Then again, the embarrassment was half the fun and you knew that was why he had planned this.
After doing something competitive, he wanted to do something silly. It was part of the great balance of your friendship, and you appreciated the change of pace. You loved the way your heart was pounding when you stepped back out of the bathroom, now completely unrecognizable to anyone but the person you came with, and one quick glance around, you could see the top hat through the window leading to the patio area, and you chuckled before heading in that direction.
The top hat, monocle and bow tie didn’t exactly go with his crewneck, but Owen was sporting it confidently. You saw a few people glance over at him questioningly, and when you slid into the seat across from him, you earned a few looks yourself.
“You look dashing,” Owen cooed in a fake British accent, and you laughed into your hand as you tried to keep yourself quiet.
“You look pretty dapper yourself,” you managed to get out before erupting in another fit of giggles, and Owen started laughing with you. It was ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous, but you were both having too much fun.
You took your time while you ordered, and Owen managed to keep up his fake British accent through the entire event. You were sure that the waiter didn’t believe for a second that he was from anywhere outside of America, but he was kind enough to keep his judgements to himself. You lost yourself in your little made-up world with him, and even tried out an accent of your own. It didn’t work out.
“Are there anymore random outfits to this day?” You asked a couple of hours later after Owen had paid (you had tried to pay for yourself, but he had managed to coerce the waiter to pretend like your credit card wasn’t sitting on the table next to his) and you were walking back out to his car.
“No, I promise that the clothes you had on this morning will be fine.” While Owen was waiting for the waiter to bring his card back, you had gone back to the bathroom to change back into your regular clothes. A few of the patrons were once again surprised at your change in attire, but just like you had managed to do all afternoon, you ignored them.
Once you got into the car, Owen informed you that the last event wasn’t until later in the evening, so driving around the city was the time-filler activity until then. You weren’t about to complain. After playing volleyball in the sun and then having a nice, filling lunch, you were a little tired and could use the break.
Somewhere in the first half of your day, while you were getting swept away in Owen’s activities, your stomach had started turning over itself every time Owen looked at you. It was something that had been happening more and more frequently when he was around, but now it was becoming more noticeable. His smile would cause an involuntary one to turn up your lips. His laugh would cause your heart to thunder in your chest, and sometimes his hand would brush yours as you both reached for the volume dial when a particularly good song came on, and you would have to refrain from jerking away, feeling electricity spread up your arm at the contact.
He was your best friend, but he was alarmingly more than that now. You wondered if he had any idea what kind of fire he was playing with setting up a day like this for the two of you to enjoy together.
In the midst of driving around to pass the time, Owen would stop at some of the stores he knew to be your favorites, and you would walk around for a bit. It was nice and relaxed and exactly how you would normally spend a quiet afternoon together. You knew that there was still more to this day that he had planned, but if it were to end at that moment, you would have been content.
When the sun started to set, you were informed that it was time for your next, and last, activity. By now, you didn’t really care what it was, because even without it, Owen had given you the best day imaginable. You didn’t even stare out the window to try to figure out where you were going. Instead, you turned up the music and sang One Direction songs to Owen while he sang them back to you. It was perfect.
It had been a long time since you had been to a movie under the stars, but when Owen finally put the car in park, you realized that was exactly what his final plan was. When you saw the sign and realized that it was for your all time favorite movie, the first thought you had was why you didn’t know that it was playing here. The second thought was how sweet and amazing your best friend was for bringing you here so that you could see it.
He didn’t try to stop you now as he quickly got out of the car and then moved to the backseat to grab the last bag. When you moved to join him, he took your hand without immediately dropping it - something that he hadn’t purposely done all day, though he had many times before - before leading you over to an empty patch of grass that was right in the middle of the viewing area. You had a perfect view of the screen, but you weren’t paying as much attention to that now. No, you were too busy watching the boy that you were with.
Owen eventually dropped your hand as he started going through the contents of the new, and last bag. There was a rolled up blanket, a hoody that you recognized as his, some snacks, and a couple bottles of water. Everything you needed for a night like this. You could feel the emotion start to overwhelm you.
He didn’t say a word as he laid out the blanket and then handed you the spare hoody.
“In case you get cold,” he murmured when you gave him a questioning look. Your heart stuttered in response, but you didn’t offer him a verbal one. You watched as he slipped his baseball hat off again, his hands pushing nervously through his hair before he finally looked back over at you.
“Seriously, Owen, what’s going on?” The lightness your voice was gone, and it was replaced with concern. Your best friend was nice and wonderful and all great things, but he didn’t do things like this without a reason. Was he sick? Was he leaving? All negative thoughts filled your mind and you immediately felt like you could cry.
“YN, there isn’t anything-“
“Is it because of her?” You cut off before you could stop the words from flying out of your mouth. You hated that you brought it up. You had managed to push her out of your mind for the last few hours, but now that you were faced with such uncertainty, it was the first place your mind went. Owen only looked confused.
“Her? Her who?” He asked as his hand dropped back down to his side, and your gaze fell to the blanket on the ground. You knew now that you had brought her up, you were going to have to face the truth of it all.
“I saw your Instagram story this morning with Serena. She’s… she’s really pretty, but I just had no idea-“
“No idea?” Owen asked, his voice still heavy with confusion. “No idea about what, YN?”
You squeezed your eyes shut as you felt tears start to build behind them. You wished that the night had ended after your Target run an hour ago. You wished that you didn’t have to deal with this on your ‘best day ever’.
“I had no idea that you were seeing someone.”
Despite being outside and surrounded by people, an eery silence fell over you. Owen wasn’t quick to reply, and the more seconds that ticked by, the more heartbroken you became. Maybe you would need to call an Uber to save you from this night.
“Y-you think… YN, Serena and I are not dating,” he finally managed to stutter a few seconds later. It felt like an eternity, but his words finally gave you the little bit of courage you needed to look back up at him.
In the setting sun, Owen’s eyes looked bluer than you had ever seen them, and your breath caught in your throat. Whatever shock he had been feeling from your words seemed to be fading as panic started to settle on his features.
“Oh my god, you really thought… oh, no, YN. No, no, no, that’s not what you were supposed to think at all!” Your brows furrowed as you stared up at him, but he had started to pace a bit in front of you, making you feel even more on edge. “Have you been feeling that way all day?” You nodded in response to the question, and Owen groaned as he slid his fingers through his hair.
“Owen, please explain to me what the hell is happening,” you insisted, and while you had hoped that he would stop moving, he didn’t.
“Serena- she’s a friend. She’s someone that I met while filming and we… I’ll admit, I guess when I shared it, I was hoping that it would make you a little jealous, but I didn’t think-“
Another wave of confusion flowed over you at his words. He was trying to make you jealous?
“Wait, what do you mean, ‘you hoped it would make me jealous’?” You cut him off, a hardness forming in your voice that you hadn’t known was going to appear. Owen immediately stopped his pacing at the sound, and his wide eyes stared worried back at you.
“It’s not… okay, yes. But it’s not like I wanted it to like, ruin your day or anything. I just… in hindsight, it was a dumb move, I’ll admit. I had this whole day planned for weeks now, and Jeremy even helped me set up the beach thing, and-“ Owen was rambling now, and all you could do was stare back at him while he worked through it. “- well he told me that I should just tell you that I liked you instead of feeling like I needed to do this big gesture, but it isn’t that easy, you know?” He had started pacing now, but you hadn’t missed his words. The blood rushed through your ears, and the world felt like it shifted a bit as they hit your eardrums.
I should just tell you that I liked you.
“You’re my best friend, and I-“
“Owen.”
“-saying something like that has the power to ruin things and I couldn’t stand-“
“Owen.”
“-I mean, I don’t even know if you feel the same way, and if this was all for nothing that’s fine, I just don’t want you to think I lied to you-“
“OWEN!”
Finally, you managed to grab his attention as he slowed to a stop and you were able to step towards him. The expression on his face was a mixture of wild panic and confusion, and you smiled a bit at how cute it was.
“Would you just shut up and kiss me already?”
It was a bold move, and it seemed to take Owen by surprise a little bit as he didn’t make a move for a solid five seconds after you spoke.
“You… I should what?” He asked dazedly, and you giggled as you raised onto your tiptoes, your hand gently cupping the back of his neck.
“Kiss me.” It turns out, he didn’t need to be asked twice.
His actions mirrored yours as one of his hands came up to rest just under your jaw as you leaned your body into his and he closed the distance between you. His lips were soft- softer than you had imagined they could be- and his thumb brushed against your cheek as gently pulled you closer. Lightning shot through your veins though he was the one grounding you so that you wouldn’t get shocked, and after a few seconds, you could feel him smiling against your lips.
“You should have stopped me sooner,” he murmured when he took a second to pull back.
“I don’t think that I could have, even if I tried,” you teased, just before he leaned in to kiss you again.
Kissing your best friend who you had feelings for was like seeing the Northern Lights for the first time. It was bright and beautiful and you swore you saw colors that you didn’t even know existed before. Owen had set out to make this the best day ever, and you weren't sure that he knew just how well he had exceeded at it. But, you kept kissing him, and eventually you sat down on the blanket for the movie and you kissed him more.
He was perfect, the day was perfect, and the pain you had felt that morning seeing the unknown girl on his story dissipated completely as you knew that the only person that had him in this way was you. He liked you back, and you didn’t have to second-guess it anymore. From the unannounced breakfast, to the beach, to lunch, to wandering around the city together, and now ending your night on a blanket in the park watching your favorite movie together… it was the perfect recipe for your own personal best day ever.
Tapping your fingers on a surface repeatedly is a past time that Iida found rather irritable. Along with chewing or clicking on pens, bobbling your knee, fumbling with your hands, things like that.
Though, Iida couldn’t help himself from tugging and tapping on the light red watch strapped firmly to his wrist, checking it habitually.
Uraraka eyed Iida as he tiredly rubbed at the bridge of his nose, staring down the black clock hands as they moved too slowly for his liking. “8 more hours till I can see (L/n)-kun again...” he mumbled ever so quietly, pulling his grey sleeve back down.
He drummed his fingers on the side of his desk once more. Uraraka pursed her lips.
————
“Ne, Iida-kun, you look sort of...restless, these days. Did something happen?”
Iida looked up from his lunch. He hadn’t realized he was picking at his rice until Midoryia set a hand on his shoulder. He untensed and grasped his chopsticks correctly. “I assure you everything’s..alrig-“
“Who is ‘(L/n)-kun’, Iida?”
Uraraka butt in, both hands clenched and resting on the table. Iida stood silent for a tad too long.
“W-well I heard you mumble something about ‘8 more hours till I can see ‘(L/n)-kun’ again’ in class today a-and I was just wondering-“
“It’s no one you know.” Iidas voice was uncharacteristically dismissive and unstable. Two words that never would be used to describe Iida Tenya.
Iida abruptly rose from his seat. “I apologize. I need to do something.”
He briskly walked towards the exit of the cafeteria. Midoryia watched as he discreetly fumbled with the straps of a light red watch barely hidden by his blazer sleeve. He turned back to the table, to Uraraka and Todoroki.
“What do you think happened to Iida-kun? He barely seems like himself...”
“It’s been like that for about a month now, has it not?” Todoroki tapped on his chin with the butt of his chopsticks. Uraraka sighed.
“think it has something to do with this ‘(L/n)’ person?”
Todoroki shrugged. Midoryia sighed, bringing a forkful of rice into his mouth before stopping. “Actually, I think I remember Iida asking me about someone like, a month ago.”
“Was it ‘(L/n)-kun’?” Todoroki and Uraraka questioned, almost in unison. Midoryia let his fork drop back into his bowl. “I...I’m not sure. I think he was asking me about a name like...Ryota? No...Tadashi? No no, that wasn’t it...”
Midoryia rubbed at his chin, before a name popped into his mouth. “Oh! I remember! He asked me...”
———
“...Midoryia-kun, have you seen (L/n)-kun this morning? I haven’t seen him and he has my Quirk-Law textbook.”
Midoryia looked at Iida like he grew a second head. “...gomen, who?
It was Iida’s turn to look confused. He stopped eating his breakfast and faced Midoryia fully. “...(L/n)-kun. (L/n) (Y/n)?”
“Theres no one here named that, Iida-kun...” Midoryia awkwardly gulped down his water, filling his mouth to prevent him from accidentally saying something harsh. He wasn’t sure if he was in the wrong, or Iida was just plain on delusional.
Iida pursed his lips and turned to Uraraka, Tsuyu, and Todoroki. Perhaps Midoryia was just feeling a bit amnesic. Plus, (Y/n) was real close with Uraraka, even if it was slightly to close for his liking. So, she was bound to be able to answer Iidas inklings, right?
“Uraraka-kun, surely you’ve seen (L/n)-kun this morning, am I wrong? A-and what about you, Tsuy-I mean Tsu-chan. Todoroki-kun.”
All three of them gave him the same look of disarray Midoryia had gave him. Tsuyu shook her head while Todoroki grunted out a “no.” Uraraka pitifully set a hand on Iidas shoulder.
“Iida, are you feeling alright? There’s no one here named ‘(L/n)’...”
“Sure there is!” Iida was starting to get a little frazzled. Is this some kind of sick joke? If it was, he’d be willing to laugh it off right now. Surely any second, (L/n) would come running down, claiming he overslept and scarf down his breakfast. Where was he? He was waiting.
One by one, everyone surrounding Iida started to oogle at him, watching as their level headed class rep unraveled at the seams. “W-why must you all look at me like I’m crazy! Have you all forgotten about your own classmate?!”
Iida cursed himself for raising his voice. He let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding while Yaoyorozu silently counted all the people eating breakfast.
“...19...20. Yeah, no, everyone’s here. All 20. We have not forgotten anyone, Iida-san.”
Iida grit his teeth, a wave of worry piercing down his spine. “20? You can’t have counted 20 in this class if you have not counted (L/n)-kun!”
Everyone copied the look of confusion Iidas friends made. He broke into a cold sweat, grasping at the corners of the table. “(L/n)! (H/c) hair? (E/c) eyes? Accidentally stepped on Bakugou-kuns toe and had to be sent to the nurses office last week?”
People murmured and shook their heads amongst themselves. Some with genuine confusion and others with plain worry. Iida’s lost it, is what their probably thinking.
Iida stammered. “H-how can-“
“Iida-chan, don’t you think we would’ve known if we forgot someone? And don’t you think it’s weird we all collectively forgot this person you’re talking about? Sorry to say, Iida-chan, but this (L/n) person most likely isn’t real. Or we just don’t know him, kero.”
Iida opened his mouth to say something. Tsuyu looked at him with her blank stare, before subtly gesturing to everyone else with her head. He looked around the table.
Everyone either nodded tentatively or downcast their eyes as to mask their pitiful agreement. Everyone seemed to silently agree with her. Iida was stunned into submission.
He scrambled out of his seat. His voice cracked in disbelief. This was a joke. It had to be. “I-I’m going to go wake him up. He’s...he’s probably still sleeping. That’s all. You all are just being delusional.”
He walked as calmly as he could away from the common room, but once he turned the corner, he started sprinting. He hiked up the fabric of his pants over his calves as he ran, running up the stairs next to the elevator. The elevator would’ve took too long.
Running up to the fourth floor, he skidded to a halt in-front of (Y/n’s) dorm. Iida’s hand went up to grasp the doorknob, before hesitating and letting it rest flaccidly on the handle.
“(L/n)-kun?” Nothing was heard or called from inside the room. He really is a heavy sleeper. Iida swallowed the growing lump in his throat. Why was he so nervous?
Outside (Y/n’s) room, he knocked gently on the frame of the door. His voice wavered. “(L/n)!”
There’s no response.
“(Y/n)-kun!”
Nothing.
He really didn’t want to enter his room like this. It was a breach of privacy. What if he was just changing? No, if he were changing he could’ve surely heard him knock and call out his name. He has to be asleep.
He really left him no choice. Iida gently opened the door.
“...(y/-“
White.
He was face to face with an white, blank, empty room. The supplementary provided curtains were drawn closed and there was dust gathering around the bare floorboards. There was no trace of the dimly lit room, with papers strewn across the wooden desk and a bed that was never folded or made. There was no trace of the oddly sweet smell that came from his room, that never really bothered anyone, but no one ever knew was caused it.
There was no trace of (L/n) (Y/n).
Iida felt his knees buckle from underneath him. His legs promptly folded together, his engines digging into the skin of thighs. His jaw went slack. He heard footsteps echoing closer, eventually dying out with the assumption that that someone was behind him. He felt uneasy. He felt like throwing up.
“Iida...?” Uraraka’s voice was soft, like treading on thin ice. He heard Yaoyorozu hum softly, worry lacing her vocal cords. He panned his head slowly towards them, not wanting to look at the blank room once filled with life anymore.
“He’s...gone.”
“‘He’ was never here, Iida-San” Yaoyorozu crouched down, tucking her elbows in. “Do you need to talk to a professional...?”
“No! I need to speak with (L/...” Iida’s voice trailed off. There was no point in fighting a losing battle. He knew Uraraka and Yaoyorozu wouldn’t believe him. No one seemed to.
“...most likely...”
———
Uraraka’s eyes widened. “I...I remember that!”
Midoryia shoveled some food into his mouth. “Yeah, he seemed really out of it since then. He didn’t even notice when Kaminari-kun cheated on last weeks quiz.”
“Don’t you think it’s odd he still hasn’t gotten over this person even after a month? Iida isn’t the type to dwell on things. Whoever this (L/n) person is, he’s obviously important to him in some way.” Todoroki slurped up more of his soba. Midoryia and Uraraka silently agreed.
“Well-Deku said it himself-this person isn’t real!” Uraraka knitted her eyebrows together, slumping back in her chair. “And even if we tried asking Iida, he’ll probably blow us off again...”
“Still...he got me curious...I wonder what ‘(L/n)-kun’ looks like...”
Midoryia’s ears perked up. He shuffled around in his pockets, fishing out his phone and booting up a search engine. Typing vigorously, Todoroki and Uraraka leaned over the table and across his shoulder to see what he was typing. His screen turned pink, displaying a website.
“M-My mom was talking about this place a few days ago...I-we could get some information out of Iida-if he lets us take him-and know what (L/n)-kun looks like-!”
The bell rang, cutting Midoryia off promptly. He saved the address down in his notes, sending the web address to his two friends and pocketing his phone once more. Todoroki set his tray on top of the trash can, dusting off his blazer.
“It’s decided. We’ll go after afternoon classes. I’ll go get a permission slip from Mr Aizawa to leave campus. I trust you two can convince Iida to come along?”
Midoryia and Uraraka nodded. It was a plan.
———
The four stood in front of a small corner shop, it’s sign looking like it was made of cheap plastic, with the words “Art through words” written in dark pink cursive.
It was very off putting, but it had been gaining popularity through social media and other networking apps. Apparently it’s very popular with people who lost a loved one or police looking for a sketch of a villain.
“I...still don’t see why you two requested my presence he-“
“We just wanna know something.” Was all Uraraka said. Midoryia and Todoroki had a firm grip on each of Iidas shoulder blades, shoving him in through the narrow door while Uraraka strut in happily.
The doorbell gave a small jingle. A pale, soft-eyed woman looked up from her desk, her reddish-pink lips quirking up into a soft smile. Her wavy blond hair flowed as she stood up from her chair, leaning over the receptionist desk and resting her elbows on the surface.
“I take it you must be ‘Izuku’. Thank you for calling earlier.”
Midoryia hummed. The lady smiled warmly, leaving her desk to lead them to a door. “Well, follow me, kids. Sorry, my receptionist is on break-I don’t want you to think I’m some sort of scam arti-“
“No no, we’ve seen you around on videotube...and your quirk is amazing...”
“I’m sorry, may I ask who and what we are doing here?”
Everyone turned to Iida. The woman smiled gently, taking a seat behind a sketchbook propped up by an easel. The 4 took a seat across from her, sinking down into a pink couch. “I apologize. Let me give you my formal greeting.”
“My name is Kaitekina Byouga. I can illustrate anything someone describes with complete accuracy, as long as you aren’t lying about your description.” Iida pursed his lips.
“My business usually caters towards people who lose loved ones, so it’s strange to see such...young teenagers in my studio,”
Iida stiffened. He finally caught on. ‘Lost loved one’. It was obvious. He supressed a pointed glare at his friends, choosing to adjust his glasses instead.
“Alright,” Kaitekina flipped open her sketchbook, setting it back down on the easel. “Who’s going to describe something to me?”
Everyone gestured at Iida.
Do guardian angels exist?
Well, that’s a subjective question, and there really isn’t a yes or no answer... But if yours does, they’re doing the shittiest job of the century.
The amount of times you’ve been hurt in the past, both physically and emotionally, is stupidly high. You’ve always had an aptitude for getting injured, stories of broken bones and gashes making up basically half of your entire life. Your friends and family pride themselves on having a fully loaded arsenal of embarrassing tales, practically making it a rite of passage to visit the hospital with you. And don’t even mention the heartbreaks- those just seem to follow you wherever you go.
When you move to a different city for what must be the 10th time, you vow that it’s going to be different, no matter how obvious it is that it won’t. You vow that there aren’t going to be any incidents that land you in the hospital, nor any relationships that just end in chaos.
Suffice to say, all of that goes haywire on your first day in town.
Without a car to drive you to work or any friends to hitchhike off of, you take the subway, line #224 to Solace Building. There just so happens to be a new girl group song you’re obsessed with, blasting on the highest possible volume in your earbuds, when you’re shoved from the back right into the subway tracks. “Fu-”
Time slows down as you start to fall, the dusty railways coming too close to your face for comfort before a warm hand wraps around yours, the socket of your arm straining to carry your entire weight as you’re jerked back sharply.
You collide with a warm body, soft curves lessening the impact and delicate, impossibly strong hands steadying you on either side of your waist. By all logic, you should’ve knocked your savior over, should be sprawled on the ground right now with dirty palms and a heat-flushed face. “Are you okay?”
When you step back sharply, you’re met with the sight of the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen in your life. Her heart-shaped smile and delicate features are framed with cascading brown hair, and she has ethereally flawless porcelain skin. She’s the kind of beautiful that makes the plainest outfit look designer, that could make you believe sea glass to be pure diamond. “Uh. Y-yeah. I’m good.”
“I’m glad,” she chuckles, smiling even wider and tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. Maybe she doesn’t realize the effect she has on you, humming as she dusts something invisible off your bag. “You should be more careful, Y/N, wouldn’t want someone as pretty as you being killed by a train.”
If it was anyone else, the words would sound creepy, especially with the added factor of the girl knowing your name. “How-- how do you know who I am?”
She juts her lips at the card hanging off your bag, your name written in big, bold letters. “Nametag. Y/N Y/L/N, employee in Solace Building?”
To hide the heat in your cheeks, you look to the floor and stutter out, “Well. Since you know my name, uh, isn’t it fitting that I know yours?”
It’s not nearly as smooth as you’d like it to be-- usually, the natural flirt in you would’ve made an appearance-- but the petite brunette extends a hand, tipped with gentle pink nails. “Jisoo. Kim Jisoo, if that’s helpful at all.”
Your next words are interrupted by your train arriving; when Jisoo doesn’t follow you on, you turn to look at her with your eyebrow quirked. “Are you...?”
“Not my train,” she smiles, shaking her head, even though it’s the only one arriving for hours where she stands. “Good to meet you, Y/N. Stay out of trouble!”
It’s an odd way to end a first meeting, but you don’t think much of it as you grab the nearest seat and pull out your phone to search her up. K-I-M J-I-S-O-O, you type, eyes scanning the screen fervently as the train starts.
Plenty of people show up-- after all, Kim Jisoo is not a rare name-- but none of the dozens of profiles you click through are the beautiful girl who saved your life. It’s too late when you look back out the window towards the station, the only thing you see becoming brick wall.
The next time you almost die, you’re just walking to the coffee shop across from your apartment.
The activity should be safe, considering that not many people in the area own cars. At first, you think you are safe, crossing the silent street with no problem and receiving your usual order just fine; you’re on your way back to your lonely little apartment when you hear the screeching of car tires on the road.
“Watch out!” someone screams, but you’re frozen in the middle of the crosswalk. You forget how there wasn’t a single car in the street when you were crossing as you stare at the grill coming close. The car doesn’t stop or slow down, and you scrunch your eyes shut with your arms raised up, just waiting for the impact.
It never comes. When you hesitantly open your eyes again, you find a familiar figure standing in front of you, the force of her hand having knocked your coffee onto your blouse. The car bumper is pressing into her bare leg, which is miraculously clean of a scratch or bruise, but she doesn’t seem to notice as she turns to grin at you.
“Sorry, I ruined your coffee,” Jisoo frowns, her hand coming up to almost touch the steaming stain on your chest. You stare at her mutely, following obediently when she grabs your wrist and pulls you back to the coffee shop. “Can I buy you another one?” she offers, plucking a napkin off a street-side table.
“Kim Jisoo?” you say disbelievingly, not even feeling it as she dabs the coffee away. “You again?”
“Me again,” she confirms, pulling some more napkins out of her purse with a smile on her face. “I hope you’re not disappointed; after all, I just saved you from dying. Again.”
“No, that’s not...” Taking a deep breath, you smile too, wrapping your fingers around her hand to gently brush her off. “It’s okay. I’m glad to see you, actually-- I searched for your profile to thank you, but I couldn’t find anything.”
Jisoo shrugs, opening the door to the coffee shop for you. “Oh, I’m not really on social media. If you wanted my number, you could’ve just asked.”
You laugh lightly, tossing the crushed cup in your hand into the trash. Of course it’s odd that she isn’t on social media in the 21st century-- with her face, you’d expect Jisoo to be a major influencer. “Then I’ll ask for it. Later.”
“Of course. Order what you want, I owe you one after all that,” she offers, plucking a couple loose 20 dollar bills out of her purse.
Once again, you’re faced with another weird habit of hers, but you order anyway and thank her after she pays. Before you can say anything else, though, she gets a text and frowns at her phone. “Oh, sorry, I have to go. Catch you next time?”
“Sure,” you answer, forgetting to tell her that she still forgot to give you her number. You stand dumbly on the sidewalk and watch her go, taking a deep breath and looking both ways before you set off towards your apartment for the second time that day.
Maybe next time?
The third, and hopefully last time, is the absolute weirdest of all.
You seem to have a thing for being knocked into ditches-- this time, a group of teenagers barrels into you while you’re walking by the side of the only river in your entire city. You open your mouth to tell them off, but before you can, an especially hard shove from an stocky little boy pushes you right into the water.
Luckily, the fall isn’t high, so you don’t hit the water with much force, but the boats cruising along and the recently terrible weather stir the current strong enough to pull you right under. In the icy water, you feel your fingers let go of the phone in your hand, your lungs slowly being crushed by the pressure of your surroundings.
It’s hard to tell how much time passes while you’re in the water. From what your doctors have told you, trauma is difficult to remember clearly for a while, but you vaguely feel hands linking in front of your chest and forearms bracing under your armpits to drag you out of the water.
The heat of the summer sun warms the stone under your back and you can hear whispers sounding around you as you flop onto the floor. Hands push hard on your breastbone, once, twice-
After maybe 30 pushes, fingers pinch your nose, and soft lips meet yours. It feels more like a kiss than CPR, no air really being blown into your mouth, but nonetheless, you feel water leaving your lungs, and you open your eyes in shock, coughing out loud.
To your (somewhat) shock, it’s the same girl hovering over you. Jisoo’s skirt is wet at her knees where she kneels beside you, her hands still hovering over your chest. She must’ve been the one giving CPR, then. Sitting up, you hack violently until most of the water’s out of your lungs, the other girl waving away all of the spectators. “How’re you feeling?” she asks, once you’re alone on the sidewalk.
Your hands move faster than your brain, pulling her forward by the nape of her neck until you kiss again, something about her tasting familiar in a way you can’t quite place. “Who are you?” you breathe once you’ve pulled away, searching her warm eyes for an answer.
She smiles again, handing you your miraculously dry phone instead of answering. It should be waterlogged and dead, but nothing seems to make sense when concered with Kim Jisoo. “How about you take me for dinner or something before asking the serious questions? Soup should be good to warm you up.”
Hand clasping in hers, you’re pulled to your feet with strength that doesn’t match her petite stature. You barely remember that you look like an almost-drowned rat, your lips purple with cold and your hair stringy with icy water. “Sure. Soup. But you need to answer me first.”
She exhales, hitching her bag higher up on her arm. “I’d say I’m your guardian angel, but you wouldn’t believe that, would you?”
“I wouldn’t,” you answer, eyes narrowing as you follow her down the street. “But maybe you can convince me. Over soup.”
-I Only Need You- Draco Malfoy x Female Reader
A/N: My male reader flopped harder then my life, so imma stick to female lmao.
Summary: It’s a regular trip to Hogsmeade when Draco comes across a girl he has never met before.
Warning: Soft Draco and shitty friends, also a bit of cursing.
House: Gryffindor
♡~🐍~♡
“Hurry up Y/n!” shouted Hermione from outside your door. You chuckle quietly and you pull your black knitted cardigan over your white turtleneck. You stare at your outfit one last time, hoping it would keep you warm enough against the harsh cold outside. “I’m coming out, hold your horses” you replied back with a soft laugh. Hermione was always so punctual.
You grab the handle of your door and twist it, pulling it open. You were greeted with the sight of Hermione crossing her arms as well as Harry and Ron standing a few feet behind her “Ready?” she asked and you nodded in reply. She smiles and turns to walk out the common room with the rest of the group.
“Any minute more and i think she would of gone mental” Ron commented, making both you and Harry laugh. “You know how she is with our Hogsmeade trips” you shrug as you talk “Yeah because she loves Butterbeer” “You are right about that Ronald”
♡~🐍~♡
“so what do you guys want to do first?” You asked, rubbing your hands together to create some warmth. The snow fell around you, as much as it was freezing you couldn’t deny that fact that it was beautiful. The snow laying on the ground like a thick white blanket was a sight to see. “We could go to Honeydukes and get some candy?” Ron suggested.
Hermione rolled her eyes in annoyance “We always go to Honeydukes. I think we should go to The Three Broomsticks and get-” “Butterbeer” you three said in unison. Hermione’s face heated up in embarrassment as the rest of you laughed. “Shut it!” she huffed and crossed her arms. You put a hand on her shoulder “Lets go get some Butterbeer” she had a pout on her face, but nodded nonetheless.
♡~🐍~♡
As all of you walked into The Three Broomsticks, you looked around for a empty table. As you all made your way over Hermione was giggling with excitement. You smiled at her child like behaviour for a drink. You all sat down. You and Hermione sat next to each other as Ron and Harry sat across from you too. A waiter came over and Hermione spoke up “Can we have four Butterbeers please” the waiter nodded and left.
“Hermione calm down, your shaking in your seat” Ron laughed. You smiled lightly as Hermione huffs like last time and looks away. After a couple minutes the waiter came out holding a silver tray with there drinks. They placed each drink in front of them and smiled “Enjoy” they said politely and left. Hermione instantly started to drink hers “It’s still so good” she hummed.
You smiled and took a sip of your butterbeer. She was right, it was still a good drink. As you all chatted away and drank Butterbeer you notice Harry stare out the window for a moment before turning to ron and Hermione “Padfoot” he says. You stare at him with a confused expression. Hermione and ron nods and stand up, as well as Harry “we’ll be back in a bit” Hermione said, gazing at you.
You go to stand up as well, but Harry shakes his head “Alone, you stay here” he says “What why?” you question. “Just stay here Y/n. okay?” Harry said in a rather harsh tone. Y/n’s smiles sadly and nods “Yeah sure” and soon enough they left.
They always left you out of things. They went on the adventures and always left you behind. They were the golden trio and you were just a side character in there big story. You sigh and take another sip of your Butterbeer. You questioned if you were really there friend sometimes, like you were now. You looked up from your drink to gaze around the room when your eyes make contact with cold grey ones.
You tensed up slightly as the eyes bore into yours like they were studying your soul and everything about it. You tear your eyes away soon after. Draco Malfoy. Why was he staring at you? Why did you stare back? You shake away your thoughts as you finish the rest of your Butterbeer.
“Is this seat taken?” you heard a low voice speak, looking up you see the blond Slytherin staring down at you. You feel small under his gaze, he was indeed intimidating “Um no, not anymore.” he takes a seat across from you where Ron sat and shuffled a bit “I couldn’t help but hear your conversation with Potter” he started. You raise a brow Had he been watching you? “i just wanted to say sorry” he says, a genuine smile gracing his lips. You blink a couple times in shock.
“Oh, its quite alright. I’m used to it” You replied, being casted out by your own friends had become a normal thing you no longer questioned. “How come i’ve never seen you before?” he asked. You shrug your shoulders “If your not part of the golden trio and going on dangerous adventures, you fade into the background at Hogwarts” bitterness laced your tone, which Draco could definitely hear. “That i agree with. Why don’t they ever take you with them?”
“I wish i knew as well. Maybe because i’m not like them?” You replied, not really sure of your own answer “What do you mean by that?” he asked, genuinely interested “I’m not smart like Hermione, i’m not brave like Harry, i’m not. I don’t know what Ron is actually” “Annoying?” Draco suggested, making you laugh slightly. He wasn’t totally wrong. Draco smiles as he hears your sweet laugh.
“I think you should ditch them.” Draco suggested making you shuffle in your seat “I don’t know, i don’t want them to be angry with me” she frowns slightly. Draco reached over to grab your hand with his. You feel the cold metal of his rings on the skin of your hand. He rubs his thumb in circles on your hand in a soothing manner “You don’t deserve to be treated like that..i just realized i never asked for your name. How rude of me” Draco chuckles.
You smile and shake your head “No its fine, Im Y/n” he smiles as you say your name “That’s a beautiful name” he says as his hand continues to hold yours “This is gonna sound strange, but do you want to go for a walk around Hogsmeade with me?” he asked, he looked slightly worried. Fearing rejection. You nod slowly “I’d like that very much”
♡~🐍~♡
It had been months since that Hogsmeade trip. You and Draco continued to hang out, growing closer and closer. It was inevitable for you two to grow feelings for each other. You unfortunately had not listened to Draco when he said to drop the golden trio, you were to nice for that even if they had been ignoring you for two weeks now. Currently you were walking around with Draco, taking a stroll out the outskirts of the forbidden forest was something you two did often.
“Y/n!” you both heard from behind you. You turn around to see your ‘friends’ looking at you with a smile “Hey Y/n, we were wondering if you wanted to hang out?” Hermione asked, her eyes landed on Draco and she scowled “What’re doing with him” Draco rolled his eyes “We were having a nice stroll till you three came along” he snapped back. You put a hand on his arm. He visibly calmed at your touch.
“You shouldn’t be around him Y/n he’s a dirty Slytherin. We’re your friends come on” Harry scoffed. You looked at them in disbelief “Friends?! You only hang out with me when it’s convenient for you! You leave me in the dust to go on adventures or some shit! Oh, but please tell me how i’m your friend?!” you shouted at them. The trio looked hurt at your words “We are your friends Y/n! There’s just some things we have to do alone” Hermione exclaimed back.
“Oh cut the bullshit. If i really meant anything to any of you you would have told me a long time ago. I’m done with you three” You turned your back and began to walk anyway, wiping harshly at the tears that came down your face. “Y/n!” Draco shouts as he runs in front of you. He grabs your face, tilting it up to look at him “Hey, don’t cry” he cooed and and wiped a few stray tears with his thumb.
“I’m proud of you for standing up for yourself” He smiles, you give him a quick smile and put your hands over his. “I really couldn’t have done it without you, Draco” You reply, making his face flush lightly. Your eyes gaze around his face, surprised to find yourself leaning in. Draco does the same. You close your eyes as his lips land on yours. He was soft yet forceful with the way he kissed you.
Draco’s hands let go of your face and travel down your back, pulling you flush against his chest. You gasp in surprise and your hands land on his chest. He pulls away, leaving you breathless from his kiss “Wow” he muttered making you laugh “Yeah wow” you repeated. “I’m sorry about your friends Y/n” he says in a saddened tone. “It’s okay, want to know why?” “Why?” he asked.
“Because, I only need you”
♡~🐍~♡
Ayna x MC (Kennedy, they/them)
~2k words unedited but thats nothing new now is it?
-
Ayna’s fingers fasten a necklace clasp behind her neck, every movement careful and precise as she readies herself. They move to her hair, fixing it for the nth time, just to assure it’s perfect.
It has to be perfect, all of it. Every hair, every pore, every fine detail - it’s all been carefully thought through for weeks now, for this one specific date.
Valentine’s Day.
The end all be all, at least this year. She’s never given it much thought before, but she’s never really had a reason to. Until this year. Until this crazy, wild, borderline disastrous year. Until the day Kennedy stumbled into her class, all smiles and longing looks.
Until she spent days looking forward to coffee house meetups, until short texts could make her whole day, until every class was an excuse to share a small smile. And, unfortunately, until those meetups were forced to end, until those texts stopped coming, until class was just a reminder that even smiles were dangerous.
But not today. She had a plan today, a foolproof, perfect plan. No planned meetups, no trackable texts, nothing too out in the open. And she’d be damned if it failed.
She turns from the hanging mirror, shrugging on a jacket and tugging on a nice pair of shoes before straightening. Her reflection stares back at her, carefully done makeup and slightly askew glasses. She quickly adjusts them, tucking back one last strand of hair.
With one last glimpse at herself, she grabs the bouquet of roses she picked out earlier in the day, bright red petals resting on her table. And with that she leaves, exiting her building and venturing onto Vancross campus.
She eventually steps out onto one of the many winding paths leading through the school’s grounds, carefully making her way to the expansive library settled in one corner of campus. It’s familiar warmth shines through the windows, yellow lights on even in the darkening night for cramming and over enthusiastic students.
Ayna’s fingers tighten over the door’s handle, tugging it open as a small, excited grin overtakes her lips. She steps inside, flowers poised in her hands regardless of how cheesy they may be, and scans for
They’re with her. Sitting with her, talking with her, laughing with her. They’ve been doing everything with her, and today’s no different. Today’s not special, not exempt, not reserved for Ayna.
Huddled close at a table, books spread before the pair as they whisper, heads so close. Arms touching, smiles wide, chairs so close. They’re so close, that’s all Ayna can think about as she simply stands there, all her previous excitement evaporating from her body.
And they don’t even notice her. Kennedy’s gaze doesn’t flicker in her direction in the way it always does. Their cheeks don’t flush when they’re caught like they always do in the lecture hall. Their hands don’t fidget with barely contained nerves, atop the table, a pen twirling between anxious fingers.
Their gaze is glued to Evelyn’s features, their cheeks dust in a blush from her words, their hands are relaxed as they lean against her shoulder. They don’t even notice Ayna.
She turns on her heel, quickly rushing out the library’s front doors and into the dusk settled around campus. Her heels clack with some strange anger, some swirling in the pit of her gut as her fist clenches, crushing the bouquet she spent so long picking out.
And all for naught. This is all for naught, that’s the worst part. The outfit, the shoes, the hair and makeup - all for absolutely nothing.
She stalks to a trash can resting beside the pavement, glaring down at it with pale knuckles and a furrow in her brow. She breaks, like a glass hitting concrete. She breaks, stuffing the ridiculous flowers into the bin over and over again, until she’s just needlessly exerting herself, needlessly scratching herself on discarded thorns.
Little nicks on her skin, tiny imperfections to ruin it all. A visual of her failings, a marking to remind her of this disastrous night. A brand forged without fire, one that’ll remain in the morning, even after she’s washed off the rest of tonight. Even when the mascara and curls and jacket are discarded in the next few hours, the cuts will stay, at least for a few days.
She breaks once more, from the trash bin as an angry and hurt tear slips down her cheek. A crumpled fist hurriedly wipes it away, before she’s stamping down the paved path once more, shoulders tight and expression pinched.
“Hey! Ayna!” a voice rings behind her, out of breath as quick footsteps draw closer and closer. “Hey,” a hand softly grasps her sleeve, a smiling face slipping into her line of sight.
“Hey,” she mumbles back, her gaze trained on the pavement beneath her feet, feet that haven’t once halted.
Kennedy slows by her side, falling into step with her easily. “Tatum said he saw you come into the library then leave, what’s up?”
Ayna’s shoulders lift in a halfhearted shrug, slumping with an exhale. “Nothing.”
“You sure? You seem kinda… distant.”
“I’m fine.”
“Well, okay,” Kennedy relents, head swiveling as they search for something to occupy her attention. “Um, happy Valentine’s!” Their hands clap together excitedly, expression alight with a beaming smile. “I wanted to call you or something earlier, but Winston was hovering over me all day and I don’t know… You’re usually busy this time of night and I didn’t want to bother you.”
Ayna shrugs again, her hands fisted in her pockets. “I’m not busy.”
“Really? Then let’s do something!”
Her gaze snaps up, shock sparking throughout her mind. “What?” she blanks, stopping in her tracks to further scrutinise Kennedy.
“Yeah!” Kennedy’s grin is brilliant, even in the low light, before they glance about the quad. Their hands slip into Ayna’s, fingers tangling with hers, before they’re tugging her along, away from the light posts and travelled paths.
She’s led past the bushes, to a secluded bench, empty branches hanging above it, stretching from a large tree. A soft breeze stirs them, whistling through the leafless wood.
“Okay,” Kennedy starts, sucking in a deep breath. “So I know this is super late, and I don’t really know how to go about this, but…” they meet her eyes, hope glimmering within, “would you, Ayna Seth, do me the honour of being my Valentine?”
She blinks. Not a single other muscle moves, her breath halts in her lungs, her brain malfunctions entirely, and the only thing she can do is blink. Again. And again.
“...Ayna?” Kennedy squeezes her hands where they still rest in theirs.
“You really… Really?”
“Yeah, of course. I’ve been trying to find a good time for ages, so I figured… Are you bleeding?”
“What?”
“You’re bleeding! Your hands!” they grip her forearm, tugging her down to the bench, where they carefully cradle her hands in their lap. Their fingers hover over her skin, not sure what to do as they send uneasy glances up to Ayna’s eyes.
She inspects the scratches now, all of them shallow and mostly painless. “It’s just a few cuts,” she mumbles, Kennedy’s panicked gaze quieting her.
“What happened?” they whisper, as if worried the volume of their voice could inflict further damage.
“I, um -” Ayna steals her hands back, folding them in her lap to hide them. “The flowers,” she worries her bottom lip between her teeth, “They had thorns.”
“You should be more careful.”
“Okay,” she nods, still biting her lip.
“Are you sure you’re alright?”
“You’ve been wanting to ask me out?” They speak at the same time, concern brimming in Kennedy’s eyes and disbelief in Ayna’s.
A grin quirks Kennedy’s lips as they settle against the bench, arm draped over the back. “I asked first.”
“Barely,” Ayna chuckles lighty.
“Still got there first.”
Ayna shakes her head in exasperation, a fond smile lifting her lips. Before it all falls away, replaced by a crease between her brows. “I, um,” she shifts in her seat awkwardly, struggling for the words. “I don’t think I’m as comfortable with the fake relationship as I thought I was…”
“Okay,” Kennedy answers quickly, easily.
“What?” she balks, jaw working for words. “Are you sure?” is all she manages.
“Of course,” they chime, just as quickly, as easily. “If you’re jealous or uncomfortable, I’ll do whatever I can to put a stop to it.”
Ayna’s jaw snaps shut, a frown curving her mouth, “I’m not jealous.”
“Oh really?” Kennedy’s voice hums, a teasing lilt to it.
“I’m not,” Ayna’s frown deepens.
“Okay…” they hum again, leaning closer as their voice lowers. “So you’d have no problem with me, say, asking out Evelyn for real?” Their eyebrow raises, head cocking to the side. “Or what about Blaine? Maybe Zaira…?” they tap their chin thoughtfully.
Ayna starts, “Don’t do that.”
“Why not?”
“Because…” her voice tapers off, replaced by the bouncing of her leg and the picking of a nail.
“You’re jealous?” Kennedy supplies with an amused smile.
Ayna deflates, sighing heavily, “Yes. I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“Being… jealous,” she almost spits the word, distaste heavy on her tongue and sloshing in her stomach.
Kennedy shifts closer, their body warm against Ayna’s in the cool night air. “Don’t be. It’s normal, it’s fine,” they take her hand, their palm covering tiny cuts, tiny imperfections with warmth and comfort. “I’d get jealous if you were walking around with someone too.”
“You’re not weirded out by it?”
“No, it’s normal,” They squeeze Ayna’s hand, thumb brushing lightly on her skin. “It’s human. You’re human.”
“I still don’t like it,” she scowls, eliciting a nudge and smirk from Kennedy.
“That’s fine, too,” they reassure, a more serious expression taking over. “So what happened with the thorns?”
“I got you roses,” Ayna’s cheeks flush dark, “Even though I know it’s lame, and then I kinda, uh, threw them out.”
A wide grin breaks across Kennedy’s face as they sidle up against Ayna, throwing their arm over her shoulder. “One:” they count off on the hand resting over her shoulder, “that’s adorable, and two: why’d you toss them?”
She doesn’t move beneath their arm, sitting stiff and rigid, her voice the same, “I got jealous and ruined them. I wanted tonight to be perfect, it was supposed to be perfect, and I ruined it.”
“Stop that. You didn’t ruin anything,” Kennedy scolds. “I told you, jealousy’s human. And I tend to like the things about you that make you human. It’d be weird if my Valentine was a robot,” they tease, nudging Ayna until she joins them in smiling.
She finally faces them fully, her own eyebrow jutting upwards, “I never said I’d be your Valentine.”
“You didn’t, did you?” Their arm retracts, leg folding on the bench as their body rotates towards hers. Their palms clasp in their lap as they lean forward, a smirk on their lips. “So what’ll it be, Ayna? Be my Valentine? My perfectly imperfect Valentine?”
She chuckles, shaking her head as she finally relaxes, the teasing familiar. “That doesn’t make any sense,” she smiles softly, tucking a fallen strand of hair behind her ear, unbothered by it.
“It does if you turn off the robot brain,” Kennedy lightly taps Ayna on the nose, laughing when her face scrunches.
“The robot brain is a part of the Valentine’s package.”
Kennedy squints, eyes roving over Ayna’s features. The askew glasses, the smudged lipstick, the flyaway hairs. “Are the roses also a part of it?”
“Mmhmm.”
“Then I’m all in,” they grin, just as infectious and brilliant as always. “So? Valentines?” they prod, wiggling their eyebrows playfully.
Ayna smiles softly back, scratched hands rising to cup Kennedy’s cheeks and close the already shrinking distance between them. “Valentines,” she murmurs against their lips, a whispered promise. Before they meet, light and soft and full of the light that’s held beyond the bushes.
