regarding dr ratio's team join voiceline with aventurine

idk where it originated from but i've been seeing this notion that the ENG voiceline is horribly mistranslated and ratio is much more caring and friendly in the original CN. THIS IS LITERALLY NOT TRUE HE IS JUST AS BITCHY IN BOTH LANGUAGES

as a native chinese speaker i actually really love hsr's localisation and i would like to clarify the misconception + explain the cultural nuance/context behind this particular voiceline

i think this tweet might've been the original source for this misconception? op's translation of the CN line is very literal and completely lacking in cultural nuance. while the sentence 管好你自己 does literally translate to "take care of yourself", it lacks the automatic positive connotation that this sentence has in ENG. CN is a high context language -- aka the meaning of a sentence can be totally different based on context clues like tone, body language, etc.

ratio's tone in this line is not the tone of someone who is concerned for a friend. it's standoffish. when said in this kind of tone, the meaning of 管好你自己 is closer to "mind your own business", making the ENG "keep to yourself" a more accurate localisation.

in addition, the word 管 has connotations of controlling/managing something -- directly translating this to "take care of yourself" means it's missing a lot of important nuance.

granted, the second half of the line is a bit unnecessarily aggressive in ENG. the CN is more like "I have no need for your concern", and explicitly saying that he believes aven's concern to be "false" in ENG is definitely a lot ruder than the original line.

However. in my opinion it's not Too far off base. the way he emphasises the second half of that voiceline in CN carries an implication that he actually disdains aven's concern; we can extrapolate from context clues that he feels this way because aven's concern is just an act. tldr; eng line explicitly saying "false display" does make it ruder than CN but it didn't just come from nowhere -- the implication is already there in CN

this is not to say that ratio doesn't care about aven or see him as a friend. imo the reason ratio is so standoffish in this line is because any display of concern from aven here has the clear intention of teasing ratio. they both know ratio can take care of himself perfectly well. this is just how their dynamic works -- aven makes silly playful comments and ratio deflects them by acting cold.

in conclusion: ENG voiceline is not a mistranslation. hsr localisation is definitely not perfect but in this particular case i feel they've done a fairly good job of conveying the original meaning. thank you for coming to my ted talk

DELTAFELL - JEVIL

Jevil has escaped from his non-metaphorical prison and now works as an assassin, hired by King. His talent at finding and killing people has earned him the title “Headhunter” among Darkners, as well as “It” and “That f*cking clown”. Unfortunately for King, Jevil takes a little too much time for his jobs, as he likes to torment and mess with his victims for a bit before killing them. He’d actively hunt you down throughout the chapter, acting as a more sinister antagonist while the Lancer stuff happens.

For his secret boss fight, you’d be told by Shawm that the secret to defeating him is in the castle basement, or Jevil’s former cell. After walking in there, Jevil would follow you in and close the door behind him, trapping you. He’d call you all fools, mock you while also thanking you for reminding him of his freedom, and congratulating you on finding yours. Then he’d fight you.

There’s two ways this fight would go. Secret bosses are some of the only Darkners you can fully kill in a regular playthrough, turning to a red mist upon doing so.

He has 2 themes, a regular battle one and a boss fight one. Regular battle would be called Ringing Rosies, and the boss theme would be called Time Crunch (reference to the Big Crunch, the concept of the collapse of the universe)

Option 1: Kill Jevil. Upon being beaten, he’ll say:

Op from the future here: sorry this is a long one 💀

1. I really don't know. I love all of them in their own special way. Phase 1 is of course iconic. I love the art style, the lore is great, the music is amazing, the videos are so good. I just love phase one all around, but overall I tend to think about it less than some others.

Phase 2 is great but pretty vague sometimes, and I don't know, I just don't have all that much attachment to it. We did get Rise of the Ogre for phase 2 though, and it's amazing 🤩 Demon days is wonderful and I love other specific things from phase 2, but it's not on my mind a lot. Phase one and two are also the peak of the MTV era of Gorillaz so I love that.

Phase 3 is SO GOOD, and I think it's gotta be my fave but I feel like it's a basic bitch answer to say so. There's so much depth to Murdoc in phase 3, signs of his underlying guilt about the El Mañana incident and his mistreatment of 2D, his madness being obvious on pirate radio, the book of MAN (even though that was never made canon), etc. We don't really get a closer look at Murdoc's trauma, per se, but we can really see some of the consequences of that trauma come out a few times. He's at his worst on plastic beach and I think that was a fantastic direction to go with him for phase 3. Murdoc is my favorite, if you hadn't noticed already, lol, and we get a better look at him sometimes on plastic beach. The art is fantastic, the music is fantastic, we got two guys in a love hate relationship stuck on an island together, we got Cyborg, we got the Stylo car chase, we got the FANTASTIC Arabian orchestral sessions, Russ went mad and we got some lore on him, Noodle was shown being even more badass, 2D got eaten by a whale 😀 (not sure if that's actually canon anymore because I've heard some people say that it's not, but it was talked about in a recent art book, and referenced in lost chord, which I also love, so it most likely is lmfao) I just wish we could have actually seen them all reunite, and I wish there wasn't so much permanently lost media for phase 3. So yes, that's my favorite, ig, judging by how much I wrote about it.

Phase 4 is pretty good, although I don't froth at the mouth over Humanz. We got some iconic songs and unforgettable videos out of it, and although it's overused, we also got "da baff" from it so phase 4 is alright in my book. We also got the hilarious mocap interviews, EDIT because I didn't even think about it while I was writing this the first time, but Humanz is really relevant rn for obvious reasons that I feel very strongly about, and it's a great album to listen to and relisten to in light of current events.

Phase 5 is GREAT! What can I say? As a 2doc shipper phase 5 is some of the tastiest stuff ever. I might read into it a little due to my biases from shipping 2doc, but 2D gets lots of depth and complexity in this phase. His conflict over Murdoc being gone being obvious in the lyrics that obviously allude to him is scrumptious. Phase 5 is actually what turned me to the Dark Side✨ (shipping 2doc) so I'm very fond of this phase for my 2doc roots. The Now Now is so good, and I SO WISH that we had more videos/content for this phase. I wish they could have utilized Ace more because I LOVE ACE. Kisses for him and for prison Murdoc who's p5 cg model I love. I hate that Noodle and Russ are so absent, but that's a constant from here on out really (and also in p4). I love the references to previous phases that we got in this phase too.

Phase 6 is mega confusing. I still can't wrap my head around what went on in p6. Maybe I just haven't looked into it enough. Maybe it makes sense to everyone else, but ehh I dunno. The portals were a strange addition and I'm glad they didn't stick around in p7. Song Machine is great and I love that it meant that they went back to their experimental roots more than they had for a few albums. I wish we could get a Song Machine season 2 but sadly Jamie and Damon have said that's probably not ever happening. I love the videos and the meshing of the characters and the real artists in the studio working on music together. The machine bitez videos are some of my favorite Gorillaz things ever as well. It's so amazing to hear Noodle and Russ in those especially. WE NEED MORE OF THEM. ESPECIALLY RUSS.

Phase 7 holds a special place in my heart and soul. Lots of people aren't too fond of it for obvious reasons, but I really like p7 because it's where I joined the fandom. My younger sister went to one of their concerts with a friend of hers who was a fan and she came back raving about Gorillaz. She showed me the Silent Running video and it started the ball rolling very fast. I can understand why long-time fans aren't too happy with p7 but I'm just glad to have been there for it lol. I actually really like the lore for this phase! The whole Cracker Island album is really good too, imo. Very good phase 😄

2. I'm not really sure about this one either lol. My tastes in 2doc fic are so specific and I can't really put my finger on what makes it work for me. A little bit of all I think. Everything's got its time and place. The first fic that I read for 2doc that I actually enjoyed was a pretty well known one called The Answer. It's got a little of all this as it's canon divergent, so, ig canon ignoring sometimes, sorta fluffy sometimes, highlights their toxicity and co dependency, and fixes stuff in the end, so it's everything I want in a 2doc fic! Also it really dives into Murdoc so I really enjoyed that. If it's your thing I highly recommend it if you haven't already read it lol

3. Favorite genre of music?? I listen to all sorts of things. From video game music, to Broadway, to rock, to emo, to pop, to fan music, to dubstep, to hiphop, to orchestral, to piano, to alternative, to etc I've got a little bit of everything and I listen to all of it lol. I've got so many genres from a handful of different decades, and I don't think I could pick a favorite if I had to lmao

okay i have some things to say. and i know all of my followers are here for bg3 content but i have to talk about the most recent episode of 9-1-1 on abc

Okay. I will start this by saying, I have loved Buddie for years now. Super cute, I love you Eddie, I love you Buck, im smushing your faces together like barbies. But i truly cannot get behind everyone saying that since Buck has been confirmed to be bisexual that they are going to make Buddie canon.

Firstly, lets not treat this new relationship with Tommy as a stepping stone to Buddie. This is Buck's moment right now, and thats all it needs to be. We rarely get this kind of rep, a straight "ladies man" esque character, in his 30s, learning that hes queer and what that is going to mean for him. Let Buck have this without rushing to get to Buddie

Second, I personally just do not think that it would write well for Eddie to also come out. With Buck, we have been seeing since the beginning that this man has been queer. There has never been a doubt in my mind that Buck would come out as bisexual, they have made so many quips about it in the show. It feels right for his character. I don't believe the same can be said for Eddie. If he were to come out now after all of this, if they made Buddie canon, to me it would simply feel like fanservice. Like they are catering to there audience, it wouldn't feel at all genuine to me. And I don't think its the most interesting or well written plot they could go for here.

Do I believe that Buck has/had feelings for Eddie? Absolutely. I think Buck should have a moment of realization of "oh, all of these big confusing feelings I've been having for my bestfriend might be explained now". But I don't think Eddie will reciprocate. And that's okay. They have a very beautiful friendship, and I think the best thing the writers could do is show a healthy male friendship that is heartfelt and vulnerable between a straightman and a queer man and have that just be okay.

As sweet as Buddie is as a ship, I'd very much like to see this relationship with Tommy fleshed out first and foremost. Flesh him out as a character, we've seen very little of him and I'd like to know more. I think if they really want to make Buddie canon, it needs to take its time, and they need to do it right. Well written queer characters are sometimes hard to come by, and i would hate for that to happen here with rushing into things. Personally, Ive been loving this theory brought up to me by a friend that Eddie actually helped set up things between Tommy and Buck. But who knows we will simply have to wait for the next episode.

Leaving my ex who has BPD was one of the best things I’ve done for myself even though I stayed four years too long. By the time I hopped off the emotional roller coaster of a relationship I was depressed, anxious, and unrecognizable by family friends. PwBPD are master manipulators and will attempt to warp your perception of events, leaving you to question your own sanity and so much more. The emotional abuse is on another level too. Here’s one of many examples, Imagine someone cutting themselves with a knife in front of you only to say “the cuts weren’t even that deep” or “you know I wasn’t that serious.” Just pure gaslighters. You think they care they hurt you? Nah, your feelings will be dismissed every time or they tell you how they are feeling is more important than how you’re feeling. The whole relationship was walking on eggshells to not set her off because pwBPD VERY emotionally unstable. One minute they love you the next they are screaming at you. I think their fear of rejection and abandonment outweighs the love, if any, they have for you. I wasn’t a perfect boyfriend but goddamn did I take accountability for every mistake I made. It may sound fucked up but until a pwBPD seek years of treatment and therapy I don’t think they are capable of a healthy relationship. You’ll recognize a pattern with their new partners. I could go on and on about what I went through in our relationship but I’m not tryna type all that lol just know if a person youre thinking about dating tells you they have BPD, run far away from them. I see a lot of people clowning on the people of Pelican Town for not repairing the community center themselves or clowning on Lewis for embezzling and. like. Those criticisms aren't entirely unfair. But I think instead of coming at it from a perspective of "why can't the townspeople do this" we should be asking "why and how can the farmer do this?"

Like. Think about it. The farmer arrives in Stardew Valley on the first day of spring. By the first day they're obviously different. By day five the spirits of the forest who haven't been seen by the townsfolk in years or generations are speaking to them. By the second week they've developed a rapport with the wizard that lives outside town.

In the spring they go foraging and find more than even Linus, who's spent so many years learning the ways of the valley. Maybe he knows, when he sees them walking back home. Maybe he looks at them and understands that they're different, chosen somehow.

In the summer they fish in the lakes and the ocean for hours on end, catching fish that even Willy's only ever heard of, fish that he thought were the stuff of legend. They pull up giants from the deep and mutated monstrosities from the sewers.

In the fall, their crops grow incredibly immense; pumpkins twice as tall as a person, big enough that someone could live inside. The farmer cuts it down with an axe without even batting an eye. Does Lewis wonder, when he checks the collection bin that night and finds it full to the brim with pumpkin flesh? What does he think? Does he even leave the money? Does he have the funds to pay the farmer millions of dollars for the massive amounts of wine they sell? Or is it someone--something--else entirely?

In the winter, the farmer delves into the mines. No one in Pelican Town has been down there in decades. No one in living memory has been to the bottom. The farmer gets there within the season. They speak to the Junimos, ancient spirits of the forest and the river and the mountain. They taste the nectar of the stardrops and speak to the valley itself. They change Pelican Town, and they change the valley. Things are waking up.

And what does Evelyn think? She's the oldest person in the valley; she was here when the farmer's grandfather was young. (How old *is* she, anyway? She never seems to age. She doesn't remember the year she was born.) Does she see the farmer and think of their grandfather? Does she try to remember if he was like this too, strange and wild and given the gifts of the forest?

And does their grandfather haunt the valley? He haunts the farm, still there even after his death; his body died somewhere else, but his spirit could never stay away for long. Does Abigail, using her ouija board on a stormy night, almost drop the planchette when she realizes it's moving on its own? Does Shane, walking to work long before anyone else leaves their house, catch glimpses of a wispy figure floating through the town? Does the farmer know their grandfather came back to the place they both love so much?

Mr. Qi takes interest in the farmer. He's different, too; in a different way, maybe, but the principles are the same. They're both exceptional, and no matter what Qi says about it being hard work and dedication, they both know the truth: the world bends around the both of them, changing to fit their needs. Most people aren't visited by fairies or witches. Most people don't have meteorites crash in their yard. Most people couldn't chop down trees all day without a break or speak to bears and mice and frogs.

The farmer is different. The rules of the world don't work for them the way they work for everyone else. The farmer goes fishing and finds the stuff of fairy tales. The farmer goes mining and fights shadow beasts and flying snakes. The farmer looks at paths the townspeople walk every day and finds buried in the dirt relics of lost civilizations.

The farmer is a violent, irrepressible miracle, chosen by the valley and destined to return to it someday. Even if they'd never received the letter, they would've come home.

They always come home eventually.

finally decided to go back and read this and actually take my own advice.

i wrote this at a time where i hadn’t experienced a real earth shattering heartbreak. i wrote it with only assumptions i’ve seen my entire life. i’ve seen friends and family go through breakups, i’ve had shit hurled at me my entire life and so i tried to formulate it into something that i could understand. i thought if maybe i had taken all my sufferings and multiplied it by hundreds that i might be able to capture jenns pain.

i wrote this in 2020-2021 i think? but 4 years later and ive finally faced that earth shattering heartbreak i tried my best to convey and all i can really say is that i was pretty close with my intellect at the time, but i was still pretty far off.

talking about more serious things-

there have been nights i’ve wanted to die. nights i’ve drowned myself with all the alcohol i could handle. sometimes i wanted to numb the pain, and sometimes i just wanted it to end completely. when i look back on things, i know that the breakup was inevitable. even months prior he instilled such anxiety in me that i’d want to go out and drink with friends just to be able to approach the situation without coming off as a coward. but when things finally came to a peak, my first resort wasn’t even to drink, i had just wanted to die. it was so bad, im convinced that a part of me died that night. i honestly felt like i was losing the other half of me. there’s always gonna be a hole in me, never going to be filled, it may shrink and be healed little by little, but it’s always going to be there.

it’s been a rough past couple months. i’ve spent so much time going back and analyzing every past conversation we’ve had and get so sad. i’ve had countless dreams since then and they’re all bad. i didn’t think i’d be losing my soulmate in 2024. we had our future all planned out and talked about having grey hair together. i never imagined myself as someone who would be distrustful, but i’ve acquired trust issues. i keep my inner circle tiny now, it’s all i can really trust in at this point. i’ve taken up hobbies, such as reading (tbh nothing new but i read plenty more physical books than i have my entire life), i journal, cook and bake) play games and watch movies/shows just to keep my mind busy. it’s been hard but i’ve been doing my best to heal my mind and heart. healing is a journey and it’s hard, there’s no timeframe or one correct way to do it, but i’m figuring out what works for me. i had gotten to the point where i finally had to do right by myself, put myself first.
