The Transfers (Riverdale one-shot)
This is a Riverdale (CW TV show) one-shot. The gifs are not mine. I found them here on tumblr. All credit goes to the rightful owners.
I would like to thank @amazingphanisnotonfire-imagines for making an Instagram profile for my original character Hannah Pearson.
Summary: Hannah Pearson is a member of the Southside Serpents and Sweet Pea's girlfriend. After Southside High shuts down, she transfers to Riverdale High with the other Serpents.

This one-shot is set in an alternate universe where Jughead didn't break up with Betty after she did the Serpent dance, Jughead and Toni never kissed, the Black Hood got Betty to choose his victims but didn't make her end her relationship with Jughead and her friendship with Veronica, Archie and Veronica didn't break up and Veronica didn't start dating Reggie, Alice, Polly, Cheryl, Kevin, Toni, Fangs, and Principal Weatherbee never joined the Farm, the Farm never kidnapped Betty, Toni, Cheryl, and Fangs were never kicked out of the Serpents, the Pretty Poisons don't exist, Toni and Cheryl didn't break up, Jughead and the rest of the Serpents didn't start playing Gryphons and Gargoyles, FP and Alice never dated or had an affair, the Stonewall Prep storyline never happened, and Principal Honey was never hired.
On the Heathers casting sheet, which you can find on Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Twitter page, Sweet Pea wrote the initials NM, and Fangs wrote the initials FF. Based on that, we can assume Sweet Pea's first name starts with the letter N and his last name starts with the letter M and Fangs' first name and last name start with the letter F. I chose the name Nathan Montgomery for Sweet Pea and the name Francis Fogarty for Fangs.
Jughead Jones led Toni Topaz, Sweet Pea, Hannah Pearson, Fangs Fogarty, and the rest of the Southside Serpents through the doors of Riverdale High School. Sweet Pea gripped Hannah's hand tightly as they walked down the hallway. Toni and Fangs walked beside Sweet Pea and Hannah, glaring at anyone who looked at them the wrong way.
The Serpents stopped walking when they saw the table that Veronica Lodge, her boyfriend, Archie Andrews, and Kevin Keller were standing behind.
Veronica smiled. "Friends! On behalf of the students and faculty here at Riverdale High, welcome to your new school! To ease this transition, I've set up a registration desk, where you can get your locker assignments, class schedules, and a list of sports and extracurriculars. We encourage each and every one of you to drink deeply from the cup that is fair Riverdale."
"Stand down, Eva Perón!" Cheryl Blossom yelled, walking down the stairs, followed by Reggie Mantle and a group of girls in blue and gold cheerleading uniforms.
Veronica sighed and looked at Jughead before facing Cheryl.
"There's the school spirit I so fondly remember," Jughead said sarcastically.
"Cheryl." Veronica acknowledged, glaring at the redheaded girl. "No one invited Fascist Barbie to the party."
"Wrong, Veronica. No one invited Southside scum to our school." Cheryl said, crossing her arms over her chest.
The Serpents tensed.
"Listen up, ragamuffins!" Cheryl yelled.
"Ragamuffins? What kind of insult is that?" Hannah asked.
Hannah was tall and slender. Her long brown hair was parted in the middle and styled in loose curls. She was wearing an unzipped black leather jacket with the Southside Serpents symbol on the back, an unbuttoned long-sleeved green and white plaid flannel shirt over a white tank top, dark blue denim jeans, and black combat boots with black laces. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a pretty peach colour. She had a double-headed snake tattoo on her left arm, but it couldn't be seen underneath her jacket. She didn't have any other tattoos besides her Serpent tattoo. She didn't have any scars or birthmarks. She didn't have any piercings.
Hannah was 16 years old. She joined the Serpents when she was 15. She did her Serpent dance to Warrant's song Cherry Pie. She lost her virginity to a guy her age one night at a party shortly after she joined the Serpents. They weren't romantically involved. It was just a hookup, nothing more. At some point, she and Sweet Pea realized they were attracted to one another and started dating.
Cheryl looked at Hannah with raised eyebrows and then started speaking again. "I will not allow Riverdale High's above average GPA to suffer because of classrooms that are overcrowded with underachievers, so please do us all a favour and find some other school to debase with your hard-scrabble ways." She looked the Serpents up and down with a fake smile on her cherry red lips and held her hands together in front of her.
"Why don't you come over here and say that to my face?" Toni asked angrily, moving towards Cheryl. Jughead, Sweet Pea, Hannah, and Fangs followed her, ready to fight.
Cheryl got in Toni's face. "Happily, Queen of the Buskers."
"She is just asking to get her ass kicked," Hannah muttered to Sweet Pea. She was about to lunge at Cheryl, but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
"Okay, guys, can we just put our differences aside and start over?" Archie stood in between Toni and Cheryl. Hannah's gaze went from being focused on Cheryl to being focused on him. "A clean slate?" He looked between Cheryl and the Serpents.
"You don't speak for the Bulldogs, Andrews, and need I remind you that these greaser snakes showed up at your place trying to kick your ass," Reggie said, giving Archie a pointed look.
"Happy to finish what we started." Sweet Pea threatened, shoving past Toni and moving towards Reggie. He stopped in his tracks when he felt Fangs and Jughead's arms hold him back.
Veronica stood in between Reggie and Sweet Pea, putting a hand on Sweet Pea's left arm. "I'm so over the toxic masculinity in this hallway right now," she said loudly, her voice full of annoyance.
"All right, that's enough pomp and circumstance! Everyone, get to class now!" Principal Weatherbee yelled.
Reggie backed off.
Veronica took her hand off of Sweet Pea's arm. He began to walk towards the staircase. Jughead shoved him, causing him to pick up the pace. He could make out the rustling of papers as he and the rest of the Serpents walked down the hallway.
"Stupid Northsiders," Sweet Pea grumbled.
"It's okay, babe. Everything will get better." Hannah said, rubbing Sweet Pea's arm and getting him to calm down. "And if it doesn't, we'll just kick their asses," she added. He laughed.
Hannah walked into the math classroom. Math was her last class of the day. Once the clock struck 3, she would be able to get on her motorcycle and go back to her trailer.
None of the other Serpents had math at this time of day besides Jughead, who was sitting next to a girl with fair skin, blue eyes, and long straight blonde hair tied up in a high ponytail wearing a white t-shirt, an unbuttoned pink cardigan, dark blue denim jeans, and beige ankle-length boots.
The girl was named Elizabeth Cooper. She was Jughead's girlfriend. Hannah met her at FP's retirement party. She was as sweet as apple pie and was one of the few Northsiders Hannah could stand to be around.
Hannah sat on the other side of Jughead and smiled at Betty. "Hey, Betty."
Betty smiled back. "Hey, Hannah."
The teacher wrote an equation on the whiteboard and explained it to the class.
Hannah listened intently while writing in her notebook. Despite what people like Cheryl and Reggie may think, she was actually pretty smart and cared about getting an education.
The clock struck 3, and Hannah left the classroom and walked out to the parking lot. She got on her motorcycle and drove to her trailer.
Betty laid in her bed, cell phone in hand, browsing Instagram. The name Hannah Pearson showed up in the list of suggested followers. She tapped on Hannah's profile picture and checked out her profile. Hannah had 99 posts and 85 followers and was following 100 people. At the top of the page, there were pictures of Hannah, a picture of Hannah's black Honda CB550 motorcycle, and a picture of the outside of the Whyte Wyrm.
Betty scrolled down the page and saw a close-up of the Serpent tattoo on Hannah's left arm, pictures of Hannah and Sweet Pea, and pictures of Hannah, Toni, and Fangs. She couldn't help but smile at how cute Hannah and Sweet Pea were together and how close Hannah and her friends were.
Betty hit the follow button. A few minutes later, she got a notification saying that Hannah had followed her.
A few weeks had passed since the Serpents transferred to Riverdale High. The Bulldogs and the Serpents had been in their fair share of fights, and Principal Weatherbee had banned the Serpents from wearing their leather jackets and showing their tattoos. Sweet Pea had to wear a turtleneck in order to cover his tattoo, much to the amusement of the rest of the Serpents.
Hannah was talking to Fangs in the student lounge. She stifled a laugh as Sweet Pea walked in. "You look great, babe."
Fangs turned around and burst into laughter.
Sweet Pea was wearing a white turtleneck underneath an unbuttoned blue and white plaid flannel shirt with long sleeves, dark blue denim jeans, and black combat boots with black laces.
"Shut the fuck up," Sweet Pea grumbled, making his way over to Hannah.
Hannah tried to conceal her smile. "It suits you."
Hannah was wearing a grey tank top underneath an unbuttoned red and grey plaid flannel shirt with long sleeves, dark blue denim jeans, and black ankle-length leather boots with silver studs on the buckles. Her long brown hair was styled in loose curls. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a pretty peach colour.
Fangs smiled. "Yeah. It...Um…It brings out the colour of your eyes."
Sweet Pea shoved Fangs.
"It's really not that bad. I've seen Fangs wear much worse." Hannah said.
"Hey!" Fangs exclaimed, offended.
Hannah kissed Sweet Pea. "You would look good in anything, I promise."
"Thanks, but that doesn't make me feel any better." Sweet Pea said.
"Are you guys busy tonight?" Fangs asked.
Sweet Pea shook his head. "No."
"Do you want to go see Love, Simon at the Bijou with me?" Fangs asked.
"I was going to invite Toni, but she's too busy trying to get with Cheryl Bombshell." Fangs rolled his eyes.
"Sounds like fun. We'll be there." Hannah told Fangs.
That night, Sweet Pea, Hannah, and Fangs arrived at the Bijou in Sweet Pea's truck. Sweet Pea held Hannah's hand as they walked in and found their seats.
Fangs nudged Sweet Pea and Hannah. "Guys, look."
Sweet Pea and Hannah turned around.
Toni was sitting next to Cheryl. She made a flirtatious comment, causing Cheryl to blush.
Hannah smiled. "Aww, how cute!"
Cheryl and Toni became a couple a few weeks after their date.
Principal Weatherbee lifted the ban on Serpent jackets and Serpent tattoos, and the Serpents started wearing their jackets to school again.
Betty and Jughead lost their virginity.
Hannah stood beside Sweet Pea, laughing at something stupid he had said. Fangs was on the other side of him. Jughead was in front of them. She looked around the park and saw Cheryl standing next to Toni and laughing. She smiled.
Jughead's father, FP Jones, whistled, getting the attention of the Serpents.
"Listen up, now! All right, listen up!" FP yelled.
"Some 60 years ago, the very first Serpent meeting took place on these same riverbanks. Now, it makes sense that this is where we gather now, where I…Where I say my goodbye. Jughead, would you step up here, son?" FP asked.
The crowd started muttering.
"What the fuck is going on?" Hannah whispered to Sweet Pea.
Hannah was wearing her black leather jacket with the Southside Serpents symbol on the back, an unbuttoned long-sleeved blue and black plaid flannel shirt over a black tank top, dark blue denim jeans, and black ankle-length leather boots with silver studs on the buckles. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a pretty peach colour. Her hair was straight.
"I have no idea. To be honest, I thought we came here to get drunk and celebrate how far we've come." Sweet Pea said.
Hannah laughed.
Jughead walked towards FP.
"What are you doing?" Jughead mumbled.
"What I should have done a long time ago," FP muttered.
"I'm retiring from the Serpents." FP announced. The muttering got louder. "For real this time."
FP put his arm around Jughead's shoulder. "Now, my boy has never stopped fighting for this crew. Hell, he almost died for it." He turned to face his son. "That's why I'm giving you the mantle."
The crowd cheered. Sweet Pea hit Fangs, making him wince.
"And now, as your first official duty as Serpent King…" FP nodded to Toni, who made her way towards FP and Jughead and handed FP a red leather jacket with the Southside Serpents symbol on the back.
"I think you know what to do with this." FP handed the jacket to his son. Jughead smiled.
"All right, all right," Jughead muttered. "All I can say is…I love you, Dad. And the Serpents will not die out. Not on my watch."
The crowd cheered.
Cheryl walked towards Jughead, and they smiled at each other as he gave her the red leather jacket.
"Welcome to the Serpents, Cheryl." Hannah said.
Cheryl smiled at Hannah before making her way over to Toni and kissing her.
"One more thing." Jughead pulled out his cell phone. "We have a new Serpent Queen." He called Betty.
Fangs started dating a girl named Emma Walker.
Emma was a Northsider. She was on the cheerleading squad with Betty, Veronica, Cheryl, and Toni. There were no other Serpents on the cheerleading squad besides Toni.
Jughead finished writing Anatomy of a Murder, his book on Jason Blossom's death and the effect it had on the people of Riverdale. It made it to the top of the New York Times Best Seller list.
After their lunch date at Pop's, Sweet Pea and Hannah went back to his trailer.
Hannah walked into Sweet Pea's bedroom. Sweet Pea followed her. He shut the door.
Hannah took off her black combat boots, dark blue denim jeans, black t-shirt, and Serpent jacket, leaving her in just her black lingerie.
Sweet Pea left a trail of kisses on the side of Hannah's neck, rubbing his hands up and down her legs. Hannah groaned in pleasure, taking off Sweet Pea's clothes, leaving him in just his boxers.
Hannah straddled Sweet Pea's body as they laid on top of the bed. She kissed down his body, creeping closer to his boxers. Sweet Pea flipped them over so that he was on top. The two kissed each other all over as they made love.
Sweet Pea and Hannah collapsed on the bed next to each other.
"You up for round 2?" Sweet Pea asked.
Hannah rolled on top of Sweet Pea. "Definitely."
At the beginning of junior year, Hal and Alice got divorced, Emma and Fangs lost their virginity, Hiram and Hermione got divorced, FP became the sheriff of Riverdale, Veronica opened a speakeasy in the basement of Pop's, Cheryl lost her virginity to Toni, Hal and Hiram were sentenced to life in prison, Alice and FP's son, Charles Smith, shut down the Farm, Hermione got people to stop playing Gryphons and Gargoyles, burned every single copy of the player's handbook, and arrested the Gargoyle Gang, Gladys and Jellybean moved back to Toledo, Fangs' mother succumbed to her illness, Toni's grandfather died of old age, and Pop Tate died of old age.
After the fall of the Gargoyle Gang, a new gang arrived in Riverdale. They were called the Scorpions. Each member wore a black leather jacket with a big red scorpion on the back. They dealt drugs and street raced for sport, just like the Ghoulies had.
The Serpents and the Scorpions were enemies.
At the beginning of senior year, Fred died in a hit-and-run accident after stopping alongside the road to help a stranded motorist.

It was the night of the senior prom.
The dance was being held at the Five Seasons.
Veronica, Betty, Cheryl, Hannah, and Emma had gotten ready for the dance at Betty's house.
The limo Veronica had rented pulled into Betty's driveway.
Archie, Jughead, Toni, Sweet Pea, and Fangs stepped out of the limo and stood in the driveway, waiting for Veronica, Betty, Cheryl, Hannah, and Emma to step out of the house.
Archie was wearing a black suit, a white dress shirt, a black necktie, and black dress shoes with black laces.
Jughead was wearing a black suit, a white dress shirt, a black necktie, and black dress shoes with black laces. His beanie rested on top of his head.
Toni was wearing black high-heeled sandals and a strapless black dress with a floor-length skirt. The sweetheart neckline showed a hint of cleavage. Her long brown hair with pink highlights was styled in loose curls. The curls were pushed out of her face but still left to fall down her back. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a light shade of berry pink.
Sweet Pea was wearing a black suit, a white dress shirt, a black necktie, and black dress shoes with black laces. The first two buttons of his shirt were undone. His Serpent tattoo was on full display.
Fangs was wearing a black suit, a white dress shirt, a black necktie, and black dress shoes with black laces.
Archie's jaw dropped when he saw Veronica walking towards him. "Wow. You look stunning."
Veronica was wearing navy blue high-heeled sandals and a navy blue floor-length dress. It was strapless and had a sweetheart neckline. The neckline showed a hint of cleavage. The top was folded pieces of soft fabric, and the bottom billowed when she walked, giving her the appearance that she was flying. A small silver chain with a tiny diamond hung low on her chest. Her shoulder-length wavy black hair was in an elegant updo, leaving her neck bare. Her brown eyes were framed by long dark lashes, her lips were plum and shiny, and her cheeks were rosy.
Veronica smiled and gave Archie a peck on the lips. "Thank you, Archie."
Archie walked towards the limo. Veronica walked beside him. He held the door open and took her by the hand, helping her get in the backseat.
Jughead's jaw dropped when he saw Betty walking towards him. "Wow. You look incredible."
Betty was wearing pale pink high-heeled sandals and a pale pink dress with a floor-length skirt and a sweetheart neckline that turned into off-the-shoulder sleeves. The neckline showed a hint of cleavage. A small silver chain with a tiny diamond hung low on her chest. Her long blonde hair was styled in barrel curls. The curls were pushed out of her face but still left to fall down her back. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft pink eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.
Betty smiled and gave Jughead a peck on the lips. "Thank you, Jughead."
Jughead walked towards the limo. Betty walked beside him. He held the door open and took her by the hand, helping her get in the backseat.
Toni's jaw dropped when she saw Cheryl walking towards her. "Wow. You look beautiful."
Cheryl was wearing red high-heeled sandals and a red dress with spaghetti straps, a v-neck, and a floor-length skirt with a slit in the right side that reached the middle of the thigh and revealed her right leg. The neckline showed a hint of cleavage. A small silver chain with a tiny diamond hung low on her chest. Her long red hair was styled in barrel curls. The curls were pushed out of her face but still left to fall down her back. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft pink eyeshadow. Her lips were cherry red.
Cheryl smiled and gave Toni a peck on the lips. "Thank you, Toni."
Toni and Cheryl walked towards the limo. Toni held the door open and took Cheryl by the hand, helping her get in the backseat.
When Sweet Pea saw Hannah walking towards him, his jaw dropped. "Wow. You look amazing."
Hannah was wearing green high-heeled sandals and a green dress with a v-neck, two spaghetti straps criss-crossing over the open back, and a floor-length skirt. The neckline showed a hint of cleavage. The sides of the dress were cut out, exposing a teasing fraction of skin. Her Serpent tattoo was on full display. Her long brown hair was styled in loose curls. The curls were pushed out of her face but still left to fall down her back. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a pretty peach colour.
Hannah smiled and gave Sweet Pea a peck on the lips. "Thank you, Sweet Pea."
Sweet Pea walked towards the limo. Hannah walked beside him. He held the door open and took her by the hand, helping her get in the backseat.
When Fangs saw Emma walking towards him, his jaw dropped. "Wow. You look gorgeous."
Emma was tall and slender with fair skin and blue eyes. She was wearing lavender high-heeled sandals and a strapless lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline, an open back, and a floor-length skirt that flared at the hips with a small train. The neckline showed a hint of cleavage. Her long brown hair was styled in barrel curls. The curls were pushed out of her face but still left to fall down her back. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft pink eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a pretty coral pink colour.
Emma smiled and gave Fangs a peck on the lips. "Thank you, Fangs."
Fangs walked towards the limo. Emma walked beside him. He held the door open and took her by the hand, helping her get in the backseat.
The limo drove down the road.

2:00 p.m.
It was graduation day.
The ceremony was being held in the auditorium. The graduates were sitting in the first row. They were clad in blue graduation gowns and blue graduation caps with gold tassels. The guests were sitting a little farther back.
Betty was the valedictorian. She walked up to the podium and gave a speech.
"Have you ever read a good book or a good story, and when you're on the final chapter and the final page, you feel a sadness you can't explain?"
"Sometimes, if you're lucky, the story or book will have an epilogue or a sequel. I stand here before you, my fellow graduates, to tell you that although this chapter in our lives has ended, the story is far from over."
"We are all still so young. We have time to fall in and out of love and to make mistakes. We still have the opportunity to fail and succeed and to change our minds like we change our clothes. There are tears of sadness running down some of your faces. Why? This isn't the end. This is the beginning of something amazing."
"For some of you, maybe it's college. Maybe it's your dream job. Maybe it's getting married and starting a family. Or maybe it's finally accepting who you are and not being afraid of who you could turn out to be."
"Just promise me one thing. Don't forget what these past few years have brought to your life. Don't forget about the people that taught you all about friendship, bravery, and courage. Don't forget about the smiles and frowns, the laughter and tears, and the breakups and makeups. Don't run from your mistakes. Learn from them and embrace them. I wish you all the happiness in the world. I can't think of a group of people that deserve it more."
Thunderous applause followed Betty's speech.
Betty returned to her seat.
Principal Weatherbee announced that diplomas were going to be handed out. He started calling names.
"Archibald Andrews."
Archie made his way towards the stage. He shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking his diploma back to his seat.
A few more names were called.
"Cheryl Blossom."
Cheryl made her way towards the stage. She shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking her diploma back to her seat.
A few more names were called.
"Elizabeth Cooper."
Betty made her way towards the stage. She shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking her diploma back to her seat.
A few more names were called.
"Francis Fogarty."
Fangs made his way towards the stage. He shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking his diploma back to his seat.
A few more names were called.
"Forsythe Pendleton Jones III."
Jughead made his way towards the stage. He shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking his diploma back to his seat.
A few more names were called.
"Veronica Lodge."
Veronica made her way towards the stage. She shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking her diploma back to her seat.
A few more names were called.
"Nathan Montgomery."
Sweet Pea made his way towards the stage. He shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking his diploma back to his seat.
A few more names were called.
"Hannah Pearson."
Hannah made her way towards the stage. She shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking her diploma back to her seat.
A few more names were called.
"Antoinette Topaz."
Toni made her way towards the stage. She shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking her diploma back to her seat.
A few more names were called.
"Emma Walker."
Emma was the last to graduate. She made her way towards the stage. She shook hands with Principal Weatherbee and the superintendent of the school board before taking her diploma back to her seat.
Principal Weatherbee addressed the crowd. "Everyone, please rise."
The crowd stood up.
Principal Weatherbee turned to the graduates and said, "Graduates, please move your tassels from right to left."
The graduates did as they were told.
"Congratulations to the Riverdale High School class of 2019!" Principal Weatherbee exclaimed.
The graduates threw their caps in the air.

Heyyyyy K, did you heard about the tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters and damn so many amazing musicians were there.

Entrevista com Shannon Leto a KAOS2000
Entrevista do Shannon Leto para a KAOS 2000 realizada em 19 de abril de 2006 por Philip Anderson.
K2K: Você começou a banda com seu irmão, Jared. SL: Foi meio que um acontecimento em nossas vidas. Eu comecei batendo em panelas e ele começou a tocar guitarra ainda muito jovem. Isso só meio que progrediu ao longo de nossas vidas. Lembro-me de estar sentado no meu quarto, montando meu kit lá e ele tinha um amplificador Marshall e um violão. Era 1996 ou algo assim. Estávamos conversando e decidimos que queríamos compartilhar esse trabalho com outras pessoas. Então trouxemos um baixista. Em pouco tempo, estávamos tocando fora de Los Angeles, em diferentes locais com diferentes nomes. Nós não tinhamos o mesmo nome, escolhíamos nomes aleatórios, então ninguém se anexava a ele. Só queríamos tocar na frente das pessoas. K2K: Foi assim que o Butthole Surfers começou. SL: Oh sério? Então nós quisemos fazer um CD. Procuramos a família certa para se conectar. Foi assim que... como estava acontecendo ao longo de nossas vidas. O segundo álbum, não foi tanto assim. Havia uma direção que nós queríamos seguir e os outros indivíduos complementaram essa direção. Eles tiveram grande contribuição neste álbum que todos nós queríamos. Queremos uma banda. Nós queremos uma banda de rock, nós não queremos... Nós só queremos uma banda. Todos contribuíram e o som é do jeito que é agora por causa da contribuição de todos em conjunto com os lugares que nós viajamos. K2K: Quais são alguns dos lugares favoritos que você tocou? SL: Eu amo Nova York. Eu amo cidades pequenas na América. A energia é apenas doente porque é tudo o que eles têm. É "Esse Show", sabe. Nova York foi ótimo. Nós tocamos neste lugar chamado The Avalon duas vezes em uma quinta-feira e sexta-feira. Isso foi legal. K2K: Alguma história selvagem da estrada? Ou você é bem focado? SL: Muito simples. Uh... Nós realmente não podemos dizer, sério. (Risos) Na medida em que fazemos shows mais loucos... ninguém estava louco mas temos alguns fãs muito dedicados. Fomos fãs há cerca de três anos. SL: É mesmo? Obrigado. K2K: Eu gosto de vocês desde o primeiro álbum. SL: Bem, o primeiro álbum foi somente Jared e eu é e cada experiência que nós já tivemos através da música, da vida, através de tudo que colocamos sonicamente e visualmente nesse álbum. Este nós queríamos desconsiderar e sermos mais despojados e menos complexos. Fizemos tudo isso. Nós sempre queremos mudar e evoluir. Desconsideramos essa maneira de gravar e fizemos isso mais despojado, cru, um tipo de negócio mais pessoal. E eu acho que conseguimos. K2K: Tudo o que eu ouvi até agora tem sido incrível. SL: Obrigado. K2K: O primeiro álbum soou tão temperado para um primeiro lançamento. A música e tudo soou como se você tivesse feito isso para sempre. Você tinha esse pregação. SL: Nós amamos a música. Somos verdadeiros músicos. Nós amamos todos os tipos de música. Nós crescemos ouvindo todos os tipos de música e fomos sujeitos a diferentes tipos de instrumentos, e isso vem em tudo. O que também aparece que foi refrescante para esse tempo na gravação, foi que ouvimos grupos como Yes, Pink Floyd... você leu todas essas coisas. Ouvimos muitos grupos incríveis. K2K: Com o tipo de música que você escuta, quantos anos você tem? SL: Eu tenho 36. K2K: Você simplesmente não ouve as pessoas citarem essas bandas mais. É chato que, enquanto essas bandas estavam por aí na década de 1970 e só agora temos a tecnologia para realmente fazer algo com seus estilos. SL: Eles não iriam durar estes dias. Não com o que está acontecendo. K2K: Mas se o rock progressivo entrou agora, com toda a tecnologia... Vocês estão trazendo isso. Isso é incrível. SL: É definitivamente uma grande oportunidade. K2K: De onde veio o nome 30 Seconds To Mars? SL: Ele vem de um velho livro. A Aggress Apocraphyx. É uma citação no livro. Foi daí que o nome veio. Realmente é sobre o crescimento exponencial em tecnologia. É sobre isso que, na sociedade, nós estamos neste estado constante de projeção em tudo que é basicamente "Agora, agora, agora, agora." É difícil reter qualquer informação com tantas coisas vindo até você. É quase como se estivéssemos a 30 segundos de Marte, conceitualmente falando. Há muito mais do que isso implica. É grande. Sempre digo a mim mesmo que posso escrever num avião. Como um passeio de avião de 5 horas, estarei escrevendo por 5 horas naquele avião. Se estou no meu quarto ou em algum lugar, duas ou três horas. K2K: O que você usa para escrever? SL: Final Draft. K2K: Autores favoritos? SL: Brett Easton Elliott. Ele fez "American Psycho". Eu li assim antes do filme. Surpreendente. K2K: Fotógrafos favoritos? SL: Richard Avedon. Ótimo. Surpreendente. Eu aprendi muito com ele. K2K: Quais são as inspirações musicais ou líricas da banda? SL: Jared escreve todas as letras. Para música, se inspira em tudo. Para letras, nas experiências de vida. K2K: Você tem um estilo único que leva você lá fora. SL: Eu acho que é tudo o que nota que eu ouvi, uma emoção acontece e então eu tento traduzir essa emoção através da expressão de uma batida de tambor na bateria ou outra melodia que contraria isso. Pode ser uma letra que possa causar uma emoção. É tudo emocional para mim. É um processo emocional. É um tipo bruto da coisa que eu aproveito e coloco para fora. K2K: Qual é o seu maior impulso na vida? SL: (longa pausa) Exploração. K2K: Introspectivamente ou para fora? SL: Ambos. Fortemente dentro e quase igual fora. K2K: Ah sim, como baterista, o que você acha de Terry Bozzio? SL: Ele é um artista. Aquele tipo... ele é um tripper. Ele está em sua própria pequena existência em seu quarto. Ele é aquele cara que... ele é o garoto que é muito inclinado musicalmente mas que se trancou em um quarto desde que ele era criança, todo o caminho até agora. Ele nunca teve uma vida realmente. Era a bateria. Isso é o que eu acredito. E com isso você pode fazer algumas coisas fantásticas. A disciplina que esse cara tem é incrível. Ele está no seu próprio nível. E com isso, Shannon teve que se preparar para o show, e rapidamente desapareceu até o showtime.

In cancer patients receiving chemo-radiotherapy, how can physical therapy intervention benefit in functional activity, fatigue, and overall health?
With most cancer patients, physical therapy and physical activity/exercise are thought to play major roles in maintenance of functional mobility . At times, as a physical therapist, it can seem like we are doing more harm than good as we talk our patients into exercising or mobilizing when they feel fatigued or are not feeling well due to chemo-radiotherapy. This literature review is to research cancer patients who are undergoing chemo-radiotherapy (CRT), and assess how they tend to respond to physical activity before, during, and after treatments.
In a research study performed by Guinan, he looked at esophageal cancer patients and the effects of CRT in these patients. Results showed that lean body mass and grip strength was reduced during treatment. Gastrointestinal symptoms improved, while weight/height, physical activity, and nutrition did not change (2018). Because strength and lean body mass decreased, it was concluded that individuals undergoing CRT, would benefit from strength training and nutrition updates to better maintain strength from pre to post treatment measurements.
Another research study performed by Samuel, assessed physical exercise and how it affected functional capacity, quality of life, fatigue, hemoglobin, and platelet levels in a patient. The exercise group consisted of an 11-week program with aerobic and resistance training. Results showed significant improvement in functional capacity, quality of life, and prevention of worsening fatigue in exercise group. Hemoglobin and platelet levels showed no change (2019). The conclusion was made that exercise activity can improve valuable factors such as functional capacity, quality of life, and fatigue levels in patients with head and neck cancer receiving chemo-radiotherapy.
Gandhi studied the effects of a walking program in patients with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy. 44 subjects were involved in this study. It was concluded that a 7 week pedometer based exercise program improved functional capacity, quality of life, and skeletal mass in patients. The program also looks to have prevented deterioration in fatigue levels of patients receiving chemotherapy (2020).
An additional study was performed following 227 breast cancer survivors and their exercise activity before, during, and after chemotherapy interventions. 68% of patients without a structured exercise program did not exercise during treatments. Additionally, 32% of patients who had a structured exercise program did not maintain it and were no longer exercising 12-months post chemo (Schmidt, 2017). This study discovered many breast cancer patients are underactive. It was concluded that breast cancer survivors would benefit from a specifically tailored exercise program to adhere to before, during, and after treatment in order to attain positive effects.
It is important to understand as physical therapists, how valuable our expertise is for cancer patients undergoing rigorous chemo-radiotherapies. Because these therapies often leave individuals with decreased functional abilities and increased fatigue, it is important to know that we can help with these problems. Educating our patients on this can help them reevaluate their opinion on physical activity, as well as benefit them long term.

Wortgeschichte Nr. 134: zügeln, Zügeltag
Der 1. April und der 1. Oktober sind in weiten Teilen der Schweiz offizielle Zügeltage. Wer in der Deutschschweiz aufgewachsen ist, weiss natürlich, dass das keine amtlichen Fastentage sind, sondern dass dann viele Wohnungsumzüge stattfinden. Aber schon im nahen Ausland ist erklärungsbedürftig, dass zügle «von einer Wohnung in eine andere umziehen» bedeutet. Der Wohnungswechsel hiess aber auch in der Deutschschweiz nicht immer und überall so. Der Sprachatlas der deutschen Schweiz belegt Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts dafür Wörter wie bündle (Laufental und Umgebung) bzw. püntele (unteres St. Galler Rheintal, eigentlich: «seine Habseligkeiten bündeln und wegziehen»), wandle (Mittel- und Oberthurgau, eigentlich: «umhergehen, sich bewegen, reisen»), plündere (St. Galler Rheintal, Seeztal, Glarus, Gaster, Schwyz und Uri; eigentlich: «den Plunder [den Hausrat] befördern»), (d Wonig, ds Huus) tuusche, wächsle (Wallis, Sprachinseln im Piemont), roobe (Wallis, Graubünden, Sarganserland; eigentlich: «Dinge zusammenpacken, an einen andern Ort befördern»), firhergaa («fürhergehen», Saastal) und zie, züche oder z Huus zie (Innerschweiz, Freiamt, Zürich, Nordostschweiz). Und wie kommt das Zügle zu seinem Namen? Zuerst belegt kennen wir es aus Saanen, wo 1615 einer vor dem Chorgericht angeklagt wird, «dass er am Sonntag züglet, item dass er nit gar ein fromme Hand habe.» Der Angeklagte hat nicht einfach seine Mietswohnung gegen eine andere getauscht, er ist auch nicht am Sonntag in sein neu gebautes Einfamilienhaus eingezogen, sondern er ist von einem tiefer gelegenen Wohn- und Wirtschaftsgebäude in ein höheres gezogen oder umgekehrt. Ein Gerichtsprotokoll von 1643 aus dem benachbarten Gsteig verdeutlicht das: Der Angeklagte habe sich «unfründtlich und unnachbeürlich erzeigt gegen der Nachbaurschafft, als Gott der Herr zur Heimsuechung ein schwerlochten Schnee in Früelingszytt, als man schon allbereit zue Forsatz [Vorsass] züglet, geschickt.» Dieser Wechsel zwischen Gütern war in alpinen Regionen mehrmals jährlich nötig, um jede Stufe optimal zu bewirtschaften. Manche Bergbauernfamilien üben diese Praxis, auch Transhumanz genannt, bis heute aus – und auch dabei werden traditionell bestimmte Termine eingehalten; insbesondere wird nicht am Mittwoch zur Alp gefahren, und auch ein Alpaufzug am Zehntausend-Ritter-Tag (22. Juni) soll Unglück bringen. Schon 1613 hat gemäss Gerichtsakten in Saanen einer «dem Anthoni Weren Höüw ab Primillod züglet», also Heu von Primelod (unter dem Staldehore) ins Tal geführt – hier steht das Wort noch unabhängig vom Wohnort, es geht allein um den Transport. Wenn eine Bauernfamilie von einem Wohnhaus zum andern zog, führte sie aber auch den Hausrat und die Viehhabe mit, den Zügel, und ausgehend von diesem Transport hat zügle die Bedeutung «den Wohnort wechseln» entwickelt. Bauern im Mittelland kannten diesen Wohnortwechsel nicht. Es ist daher kein Zufall, dass erstmals im Saanenland vom Zügle die Rede ist. Wer dagegen ebenfalls periodisch umzog, waren Bedienstete. Bei ihnen finden sich auch erste Hinweise auf bestimmte Zügeltermine. Gotthelf etwa schreibt, «mit jeder Weihnacht zügeln sie [die Knechte und Mägde] weiter.» Und auch die Berner Patrizier zügelten früher im Sommer auf ihre Landsitze und im Herbst zurück in die Stadt. Erste Hinweise auf die verallgemeinerte Bedeutung «(unbefristet) in eine andere Behausung ziehen» finden sich ebenfalls im Saanenland: Auf die Klage seiner Frau, seine Behausung sei so schlecht, dass sie nicht bei ihm wohnen könne, wird ein Ehemann 1642 «vermandt, er söli ein Behusung rüsten oder etwan züglen». Im Mittelland ist das Wort erstmals in einem Tagebucheintrag des Thuner Pfarrers Heinrich Stähli (gestorben 1803) von Mitte des 18. BOB LECKIE: Zeppelin Strafer
One of Canada’s many distinguished airmen of the First World War, Robert Leckie was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 16, 1890; his family emigrated to Canada in 1907. When not working at his uncle’s firm, John Leckie Ltd., maker of fishing nets, he developed a passion for tennis.
When war broke out Bob Leckie trained at his own expense at the Curtiss Flying School at Toronto Island, followed by advance training at Chingford, England. On June 16, 1916 his rank of flight sub-lieutenant was confirmed and three days later he was posted to the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) air station at Great Yarmouth, near Norwich, England. Flying anti-submarine patrols over the North Sea, Leckie gained a reputation for reliability in the most adverse conditions. His greatest claim to fame, however, involved another adversary — Zeppelin airships.
Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin’s quest to develop a large duraluminium-framed, controllable, lighter-than-air ship finally bore fruit in 1900. By the First World War, Zeppelins had developed into viable reconnaissance platforms and on August 6, 1914 army Zeppelin Z.VI bombed Liège, Belgium. In that same month Konteradmiral Paul Behncke, deputy chief of the German naval staff, proposed bombing Britain and was supported by Grossadmiral Alfred von Tirpitz, who wrote, “The measure of success will lie not only in the injury which will be caused to the enemy but also by the significant effect it will have in diminishing the enemy’s determination to prosecute the war.” Kaiser Wilhelm II finally approved of the plan on January 7, 1915, and on the 19th naval Zeppelins L.3 and L.4 dropped the first bombs on English soil. On the night of May 31 Army Zeppelin LZ.38 was first to strike London.
Although material damage was modest, the very arbitrary nature of the civilian casualties the airships’ bombs inflicted raised public outcries for the government to “do something.” That in turn spurred the British to develop an air defence system that would ultimately incorporate searchlights, anti-aircraft artillery and aeroplanes. It also compelled both the Army and Royal Navy to divert at least some of their aerial assets from the Western Front to Home Defence. In that respect, the “Zeppelin menace” constituted history’s first aerial terror campaign. Moreover, between the morale factor, the occasional damage done and the resources diverted to countering them, the Zeppelins could also lay claim to being history’s first strategic bombers.
At first, operating at high altitudes at night made the airships difficult for Allied aircraft to intercept, but on June 6, 1915, Flight Sub-Lt. Reginald A. J. Warneford flew his Morane-Saulnier L above LZ.37 and destroyed it with bombs over Ghent, Belgium, for which he received the Victoria Cross. A more significant turning point came on September 2, 1916, when Second Lieutenant William Leefe Robinson destroyed the wooden-framed Schütte-Lanz airship SL.11, in flames within sight of London; he also earned a VC. Four more airships fell victim to aircraft by the end of the year, convincing the German army to abandon them in favour of aeroplanes such as the Gotha and Zeppelin-Staaken Riesenflugzeug (giant aeroplane) for attacking Britain. In the German navy, however, airships retained a fanatical advocate in their commander, Fregattenkapitän Peter Strasser, who relentlessly continued dispatching them against British targets. His hoped-for solution to the advances in aeroplane technology was unveiled on March 10, 1917, when the first of a line of high-altitude Zeppelins, L.42, made an inaugural flight to 19,700 feet.
At about that time Great Yarmouth was acquiring a new weapon of its own. On April 13, 1917, Leckie ferried in the first Curtiss H-8 “Large America” 8660, and flew in Curtiss H-12 8666 on May 7. With their original 160-hp Curtiss V-X-X engines replaced with Rolls-Royce Eagles of 250-hp and more to speed along at up to 90 mph, these well-armed, long-ranging flying boats offered fresh opportunities against the “Zepps.”
The first such opportunity arose on May 14, when L.23 and L.22 embarked on a maritime reconnaissance mission. The latter imprudently sent a wireless message upon takeoff, revealing its regular patrol route off Terschelling, located on one of the Netherlands’ West Frisian Islands. This message was intercepted by the British, who notified RNAS Great Yarmouth. At 0330 hours H-12 8666, crewed by Flt. Sub-Lt. Leckie, Flt. Lt. Christopher J. Galpin, Chief Petty Officer V. F. Whatling and Air Mechanic O. R. Laycock, took off to intercept.
At 0445 hours, Galpin spotted an airship and as Leckie took over the controls, he manned the twin forward Lewis machine guns. Leckie closed to 50 yards and Galpin fired a mix of Brock, Buckingham and Pomeroy incendiary rounds into L.22’s starboard quarter until both weapons jammed. Galpin reported that, “As we began to turn I thought I saw a slight glow inside the envelope and 15 seconds later, when she came in sight on our other side, she was hanging tail down at an angle of 45 degrees with the lower half of her envelope thoroughly alight.” L.22, veteran of 81 flights and 11 raids, was the first Zeppelin destroyed in 1917, taking Kapitänleutnant Ulrich Lehmann and 20 crewmen with it.
Unlikely as a flying boat seemed as a “Zepp strafer,” the history in which Leckie took part was repeated a month later. As L.43 — one of the new “Height Climbers” — was covering a minesweeping operation 40 miles north of Terschelling, another Great Yarmouth-dispatched H-12 — 8677 crewed by Flt. Lt. Basil D. Hobbs, Flt. Sub-Lt. Robert F. L. Dickey, wireless operator H. M. Davies and engineer A. W. Goody — spotted it at 0840 hours on June 14. Catching their quarry at a relatively low altitude, the Curtiss attacked from above and sent it down in flames, along with Kapitänleutnant Hermann Kraushaar and 23 crewmen.
As a consequence of these sea encounters, the airships were ordered to conduct reconnaissance flights no lower than 13,000 feet; however, this handicapped their ability to spot submerged U-boats or mines from that height.
Still, Strasser persisted in championing his airships and on July 8, 1918, the first of a new “X” type airship, L.70, emerged from Factory Shed II at Friedrichshafen, with seven engines producing a combined 1,715-hp and an 81 mph maximum speed, also including a 20mm Becker cannon in its arsenal. Strasser was so encouraged by its performance that, on July 18, he approached Admiral Reinhard Scheer with a plan to dispatch three “super Zeppelins” with reduced bomb loads and increased fuel across the Atlantic to bomb port facilities in New York. Scheer returned Strasser’s proposal the next day with a terse penciled response: “R.S., nein.”
On August 5, L.70, commanded by Kapitänleutnant Johann von Lossnitzer with Strasser aboard, led L.53, L.56, L.63 and L.65 on another sally against industrial targets in the British Midlands. Weather conditions — 75 degrees Fahrenheit, 85 per cent humidity and an unprecedentedly low barometric reading of 29.77 — handicapped the raiders’ ascent, while steadily decreasing west winds resulted in their arriving 60 nautical miles from the coast at 1830 hours, while there was still daylight. By then they had only reached 17,000 feet, to which Strasser compounded the danger by sending last orders to his captains by wireless at 2100 hours. At that time the Leman Tail lightship, moored 30 miles off the Norfolk coast, spotted three airships 10 miles to the north and moving west-northwest in V formation.
Britain was having a bank holiday weekend and Great Yarmouth was hosting a “grand fête” sponsored by the Royal Navy in aid of the Missions to Seamen when the air raid warnings came in. Within 35 minutes 15 aircraft were either airborne or taking off. Among the first up was Egbert Cadbury, scion of the family of chocolatiers and, like Leckie, already sharing credit in the destruction of a Zeppelin, L.21 on November 28, 1916. Now a major in the Royal Air Force, he commanded No. 212 Squadron (Land Flight) as he climbed into the cockpit of de Havilland D.H.4 A8032. Leckie, also a major and in charge of No. 228 Squadron (Boat Flight), clambered into the observer’s pit behind him. Two 110-lb. bombs were still under the wings as Cadbury hastened skyward at 2105 hours.
Sighting the Zeppelins against the fading twilight, Cadbury pulled his bomb release and climbed to 16,400 feet. At 2220 hours he approached the leading airship head-on and slightly to port so as to “avoid any hanging obstructions.” Leckie’s single Lewis gun lacked sights and his first rounds missed, but he used his fiery Pomeroy ZPT rounds to correct his aim.
“The ZPT was seen to blow a great hole in the fabric and a fire started which quickly ran along the entire length of [the] Zeppelin,” Leckie reported. “The Zeppelin raised her bows as if in an effort to escape, then plunged seaward, a blazing mass. The airship was completely consumed in about ¾ of a minute.”
L.70 fell five miles northwest of the Blankeney Overfalls bell buoy, along with Strasser, von Lossnitzer and 20 crewmen. Meanwhile, Cadbury made for nearby L.65, which had turned east and dumped its water ballast. Leckie fired at it, only to suffer a double feed jam which his hands — in minus-60-degree temperatures at that altitude — were too frozen to rectify. Cadbury raised the D.H.4’s nose to bring his twin Vickers into play, but just then his plane stalled. The four remaining airships returned home, having landed no bombs on England, but at least having survived.
Returning through 12,000 feet of cloud at night, “Bertie” Cadbury had a terrifying half hour until he spotted rows of lights pointing inland from Hunstanton and landed at Sedgeford — followed by the horror of discovering that his bombs had failed to release. Both he and Leckie were gazetted for the Distinguished Flying Cross on August 21.
Other participants in the action were less fortunate. D.H.9 D5802, crewed by Capt. Douglas B. G. Jardine and Lt. Edward R. Munday, put some 340 rounds through L.65’s rear gas cell before it climbed away, but they subsequently crashed in the sea, as did Lt. George F. Hodson in a Sopwith 2F1 Camel. All three men drowned. Additionally, Lt. Frank A. Benitz of No. 33 Home Defence Squadron, in Bristol F.2B C4698, crash-landed at Atwick aerodrome. He and his observer, 2nd Lt. H. Lloyd-Williams, were both badly injured and Benitz died the next day.
Strasser’s Zeppelin bombing campaign against Britain literally died with him in a suitably Wagnerian finale. In retrospect, Cadbury was glad that L.53 and L.65 got away, regarding their destruction as unnecessary overkill. As Leckie put it, “We accomplished our object in that the shooting down of L.70 put an end to the Zeppelin raiding of England.”
Of a total of 115 airships produced during the First World War and employed on all fronts, 53 were destroyed and 24 too badly damaged to remain operational, an attrition rate of 40 per cent. Bob Leckie, involved in the destruction of two of them, later wrote a succinct requiem:
The lesson of the airships is plain for all to read. The Germans had in their possession the most effective vehicle for fleet reconnaissance in any power’s hands at that time. It was, at the same time, just about the world’s worst strike aircraft!
After the war Leckie commanded 1 Canadian Wing on April 2, 1919. He subsequently directed flying operations on the Canadian Air Board and overseeing the development of postal and commercial air services throughout the country. Rejoining the RAF in 1922, Leckie served at the Naval Staff College and Coastal Command headquarters, also marrying an American girl he’d met on the voyage to Britain. His many interwar positions culminated in RAF Commanding Officer for the Mediterranean from Malta, but much to his subsequent regret he was recalled to Canada before things heated up there.
In February 1940 the British Air Ministry appointed him Air Member for Training in Canada — superseding Royal Canadian Air Force Headquarters — with the rank of air commodore. He took up that somewhat touchy duty in February 1941 and was subsequently promoted to acting air vice marshal. In 1942 he transferred to the RCAF, rising to chief of the air staff with the grade of air marshal on January 1, 1944. After retiring from the RCAF in on September 1, 1947 he played an active role in the Canadian Air Cadet League. A Companion of the Bath with the Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross and Canadian Forces Decoration, Bob Leckie died in the Canadian Forces Hospital, Ottawa, on March 31, 1975, just 16 days short of his 85th birthday.
