I think double bass fits Sisko well because of the vibes and aesthetics (agree with @bluewizardnonesense and @potatoshakeart, thank you for taking part in the discussion!) And there's not a minor possibility that during rehearsals he would go distracted from what's happening around him and play something on his own (just remember the ancient Bajoran ship!), improvising and just chilling in tandem with his instrument. Or after the rehearsals. Or during pauses.
