🐑Aalto x M!Rover🐑Matchmaker

Down the steps… around the bend…Encore was dragging Rover all over the city. She packed some serious muscle for such a small child, but then again, considering her associations, was it truthfully a surprise? Rover was wondering what did he do to invoke the wrath of Encore this time. He hadn’t seen neither her nor Aalto since the defense of the city. Him not seeing them means nothing, especially given how the two of them had been following him from the sidelines long before he personally met either of them.

"Encore is tired of hearing Uncle talk about you! Encore is going to make you shut him up!" she said, dragging him by the sleeve.

"Shut him up? How? Wait, why has he been talking about me?" Rover asked, tripping over his own feet as he attempted to keep the same pace as her.

Encore didn’t elaborate. She kept dragging him through the streets until she led him down the alleyway in which their initial meeting took place. To an outsider, it would almost appear to be like she was leading Rover into some sort of illicit deal, though this is just how Encore was. Rover could’ve just as easily lifted his arm and dangled Encore in the air, but the amount of passion and strength in her pull intrigued him into playing along.

Finally, at the edge of the alley well past the gift shop, Encore "flung" Rover forward with all of her might. He humored her, and tripped over his feet a little, then turned back to see a proud Encore puffing up her chest.

"What did you drag me all the way here for?" Rover asked.

Encore flung out her arm and pointed her finger behind him. Rover looked behind him to see Aalto leaning against a stack of crates pretending to be oblivious to the situation unfolding before him.

"Uncle! Encore told you that she was getting him for you!" she shouted, completely disregarding Rover’s question.

"Get who?" Aalto asked, still looking away.

"Rover, you big dummy!"

"Haha, very funny. But I didn’t ask to see him," Aalto said, walking past Rover towards her.

He crouched down and whispered something in Encore’s ear. Rover couldn’t tell what Aalto was saying, but hidden behind that coy smile and sunglasses appeared to be a fair amount of supressed frustration. To further rub salt into his wounds, Encore still held herself up proud and stuck her tongue out. Whatever it was, she had a goal in mind, and she had no intention of letting Aalto stand in her way.

"Fancy seeing my favorite client here," Aalto said, standing up and giving Rover a pat on the shoulder.

"Your… kid…bought me here," Rover said, shooting Encore a glance.

"She’s not my kid."

While technically true, Encore seemed personally offended by Aalto's words, and stuck her middle finger up in a way that Rover couldn’t help but feel disrespected by.

"Never mind her. What can I do for ya?"

"I would like to know why she bought me here in the first place."

Encore stomped her feet on the ground, clearly annoyed. "Encore can’t help but think that both Uncles are as dumb as rocks!"

"...Both, uncles?" Rover asked, confused.

He looked at Aalto for clarification, but he could see the distress in his eyes behind his sunglasses that have fallen down his nose. Aalto shook his head at Encore, yet she still refused to move from her position on the matter.

"Get a load of this kid," Aalto said, laughing sheepishly and pointing back at her, "thinking she has another parent just because we have done a lil’ business before,"

"Encore wants Uncle to shut up about Rover and speak his thoughts to him, not me!" she said, stomping her foot.

"Not now, kiddo. This guy ain’t got a clue about what’s happening."

"Just like you! You two would be perfect! Shut up before I push you two together!"

"Encore..." Aalto said between his teeth.

"Is this all her doing?" Rover asked, raising his eyebrow at him.

"Yeah, you know how kids are these days, with their wild imaginations....and such. Especially her, haha."

Rover had his doubts. Aalto was sweating an awful lot, and Encores persistence only supported his theory.

"It was Encore’s idea to grab Rover," she added, "but it is Uncle who won’t shut up!"

Aalto, ironically enough, did keep his mouth shut in this case, and looked at Rover in complete silence. Encore was looking back and forth between the two, hoping for either Aalto to finally break or Rover to tell him off. She braced herself, ready to take off running after one or the other (most likely Aalto) should they attempt to make a quick escape. Rover looked at Aalto and smiled, causing him to become increasingly nervous.

"For a smooth-talking guy," Rover said, "you sure are awful at setting up a date with someone, especially if your kid has to do it for you."

"I don’t even know that kid," Aalto said, out of excuses a long time ago.

"Cut the crap. Just say that you want to take me on a date. Keeps her from killing the both of us."

Encore nodded proudly in agreement.

Aalto sighed and wiped the sweat from his face. "You’ve really left me with no choice, huh?"

"Encore never gave you a choice in the first place!"

"Dammit, you two really do have me backed into a corner," Aalto said, rubbing the back of his head. "So, uh, Rover?"

"Yes?"

"Are you perhaps, by chance, free this evening to hang out?"

Encore angrily stomped her foot.

"Gah, fine...are you interested in going on a date with me, then?"

Encore smiled and nodded her head in approval.

"See? That’s all you needed to do," Rover said, taking a hold of Aalto's arm.

“Ah…y-yeah. I’m…happy, Rover. Or thankful. Something like that.”

"Encores job here is done! And Encore has no interest in seeing Uncle and Rover make out..." she said, stomping off.

"Wait! I swear that’s not- ” Aalto said, reaching for Encore before Rover cut him off and pulled him back.

The two of them watched as Encore stomped for a few steps, then started happily skipping once she thought that she was out of sight.
