My Haladriel fics

I haven't grouped all these together before, so here's a collection of all the complete Haladriel fics I've written so far since October '22. Cannot believe it's been almost two years!

(Some of these fics also feature Celeborn/Galadriel, Celeborn/Sauron or all of them together, because I like a) Celeborn b) multishipping and c) mess. I'll make it clear here which stories those are, so if Celeborn is not your guy or if multishipping confuses or distresses you then that's! fine! just please don't read those ones and then be weird to me about it in the comments.)

Multi-chapter fics

Shadow-Bride (E, 265k words): This is my long long longfic, started in December of '22 and now complete after 43 chapters. Canon-divergence from the middle of s1.

Banquets have burned for you (M, 24k words): Written for eastwynds for the spring '23 Haladriel fic exchange, where the prompt was "one thing happens differently on Númenor, and everything changes." Went heavy on the Greek tragedy influence for this one because it felt fitting for Númenor.

A man is a god in ruins (E, 21k words): At the time this was the longest story I'd ever written and the first multi-chapter story I'd finished since the LiveJournal days. How things change! Canon-divergence from the very end of s1; what if Halbrand decided to leave Eregion before Galadriel got suspicious?

All the kinds of alive you can be (E, 13k words, also Celeborn/Galadriel, also Celeborn/Sauron/Galadriel): so loads of us have written "what if Sauron shapechanged into Celeborn to seduce Galadriel"; this is "what if Sauron shapechanged into Galadriel to seduce Celeborn, because he's furious with her and obsessed with her and sort of wants to be her all at the same time"?

So Wide a Sea (E, 6k words, also Galadriel/Celeborn): After Sauron's final defeat in the War of the Ring Galadriel remembers a long-ago day on Númenor.

One-shot fics

Five times Halbrand's secret got revealed (T, 6000 words): the first Haladriel fic I ever wrote, of five scenarios of Galadriel learning his name. 'Shadow-Bride' is a continuation of one of these five; 'A man is a god in ruins' is the '...and one time it didn't.'

Tar-Mairon of the Shire (G, 3000 words): entire fix-it fluff, probably more '&' than '/', Hobbits make everything better including Dark Lords.

Tempered (M, 3600 words): written for @thecoziestbean for the spring '24 Haladriel fic exchange.

And white winter, on its knees (M, 1800 words): written for the Haladriel Winter Solstice '23, a what-if Galadriel said yes to Sauron's offer story.

Weakened like Achilles, with you always at my heels (M, 4000 words): written for Haladriel Week '24. A little moment after the Tirharad battle and before the volcano.

I have loved flowers that fade (M, 1700 words): they deserved to have at least one nice time in Eregion before she found out who he was!

Weighed Against Our Future (T, 1800 words): A delirious (or is he?) Halbrand on the road to Eregion.

Shine (T, 3300 words) and its sequel Lady of the Seas (E, 3700 words): Halbrand makes Galadriel's armour on Númenor.

Silver Queen (M, 3600 words): my first 'what if Celebrían was Sauron's daughter?' story, sort of a Haladriel fic and sort of a fix-it for Celebrían.

Civil Twilight (M, 10k words, also Celeborn/Galadriel): for Haladriel Week '23. A 'what if Celebrían was Sauron's daughter?' and 'what if Galadriel finds her missing husband?' story combined.

The turn of the tide (T, 1700 words): For Haladriel Week '23. In the Fourth Age after travelling back to Valinor, Galadriel still feels called to the sea.

Though I sang in my chains like the sea (T, 3000 words): For Haladriel Week '23. They were on that ep2 raft for a while; so this is a gapfiller of them getting to know each other better. Or not.

Blood Sugar (M, 7000 words): the only time I've ever done a modern AU, and even then it doesn't really count because he's still literal Sauron in it. Anyway: Glasgow, professional disillusionment, and difficult relationships with your history.

Ficlets under 1000 words

Half-Maia Celebrían short fics: Suo Gân (G, 1000 words), Arda Sahta (G, 1100 words), As Little Might Be Thought (T, 2600 words). All these are Galadriel/Celeborn (and the last one is also Celebrían/Elrond) and Sauron isn't really in them, but they're all about the impact of that being his child.

To hold all the promise of blue-velvet dark (T, 1700 words) - another 'what if Sauron impersonates Galadriel?' fic, this time featuring baby half-Maia Amroth.

perhaps a somewhat controversial take, but

i must say i don't personally ship arwen. not because it would intervene with some other ship or some other bullshit, i do absolutely multiship. no. i don't personally ship arwen because arthur was often a dick to gwen and she can do fucking better. she deserved someone who would worship her devoutly and undividedly and give her all love in the world and not arthur's half assed attempts at it.

and it's not like i want to bash on arthur. i like him. he's a babygirl. but he was simply in no position to give gwen all that she deserved. he had to always be a king first, a knight second, and a husband in what leftover time he had.

while gwen's status of a queen was a major elevation of her station, it wasn't necessarily good for her. she was suddenly isolated from her former social circle by her new status, and for the nobles she remained "commoner queen". you can feel her loneliness in season 5.

and yes, it's part of the tragedy. no one in the show was supposed to get a happy ending. Gwen's loneliness and weight of queenship is her tragedy. she was progressively becoming more and more alone, losing people and contacts, starting with her father, then Morgana, Lancelot, her becoming queen and isolation that came with it, the distance between her and Merlin, her brother, and in the end, her husband. and she was alone and with the weight of entire kingdom on her shoulders.

and it's not that gwen even wanted to be queen. she wanted to be with arthur and becoming queen was the price she had to pay for it, even if all she desired for herself was a simple life.

in conclusion of this rant, what i wanted to say, is that gwen could've been much happier had she not married arthur. which is why i don't ship arwen.

(that is also not to say i have anything against people who do ship it. it's their right and it can be done beautifully. just that for me it will always taste a little bitter)

Here is a master list of all the DBD fics I wrote this year! Most of them are Catwin, but not all. I have a couple of Payneland stories and a couple of multiship/no ship.

This adds up to about 194k of DBD fic this year! All in this list are complete except Too Many Cats which I just started.

CATWIN CONTINUITY

Cat and Ghost - M, 40k. (Catwin, casefic, Sandman crossover, post-canon)

A few months after their return to London from Port Townsend, the Cat King shows back up in Edwin’s life. He’s bent on courting Edwin, and has somehow acquired a magical collar that allows them to properly feel each other. Edwin meets him in secret, unsure of whether he’s ready to tell Charles about the relationship. In the meantime, business at the Dead Boy Detective Agency continues. They receive a case where a woman is trapped between life and death, tethered between the mortal realm and the beyond by a cursed sorcerer. But there may be more going on than meets the eye, and an Endless pulling strings from the shadows…

The Human Bargain - M, 1k (A short that takes place between Cat & Ghost and Through a Mirror, Darkly that explains how Monty reconnected with the crew.)

It's been a few months since Edwin, Charles and Crystal left Port Townsend after the death of their friend Niko. They've done their best to move on. In the meantime, they've matched wits with Desire of the Endless, and Edwin has started dating the Cat King. Cat's gift of a spirit mirror offers the boys a chance to speak to Niko again - if she is indeed on the other side.

You Can Be the Moon and Still Be Jealous of the Stars - M, 5k. (Takes place between TAMD and Too Many Cats. Relationship hiccups between Cat and Edwin.

Too Many Cats - M, Ongoing. An accident on a case splits Cat into each of his five lives. It's a race against the clock to put him back together again.

Niko and Edwin have a movie night and watch Red, White & Royal Blue. The movie unearths feelings in Edwin and Niko supports him. Warning: spoilers for the RWRB movie in this! If you haven't seen the film, you probably won't be confused but also probably won't fully get Edwin's reactions!

In Your Arms Tonight - E, 3.2k. Edwin and Charles' first time.

A Gift From Death - G, 1.5k. On Christmas Eve, Edwin and Charles enjoy a moment of unusual closeness.

Other

Your Body or Mine? - M, complete, 36k. Multishipping (Payneland and Catwin focus), pre-poly bodyswap fic.

Edwin and Charles are granted a 'Hall Pass' from Lost and Found that allows them to become human again for a limited time. They were warned not to mess with the spell, but curiosity got the better of them. The spell goes wrong. Instead of ending up as human versions of themselves, they end up in each others' bodies - with the others' tastes and proclivities. They must pretend to be each other as long as they're human, lest Lost and Found discover they tampered with the Hall Pass.

Charles Rowland and The Queen of Cats - M, 1.7k. What if the Cat King was the Cat Queen? And what if she set her sights on Charles instead of Edwin?

The Legacy of Edwin Payne - T, complete, 2.1k. Alternate universe fic where Edwin and Charles both live and meet for a brief window at the end of Edwin's life.

It's 1989. Charles Rowland is about to be sent off to boarding school by his abusive father. Before he can be sent away, the police catch his father abusing his mother and arrest him. An elderly gentleman, Edwin Payne, who lives in Charles' neighbourhood, consoles him as his mother is being tended to. CW: Domestic/spousal abuse. Referenced but not seen.

How the Cat King Got His Groove Back - E, 32k. The Cat King is heartbroken in the wake of Edwin's departure. He's so down that it attracts the attention of Despair of the Endless. In order to improve his mood, Cat takes a holiday in Monty's body - and vice versa.

Broken Parts - T, 3.2k. Cat and Edwin have just moved in together. But things aren't as stable as they might seem at first blush.

YOU MUST UNDERSTAND. i entered eah a rapple shipper and exited the book series ready to burn at the stake for cerise/raven. book two was SO MUCH. it had everything. raven befriending cerise despite her attempts to isolate herself. texting in class. winking at each other. raven meeting the parents and hearing embarrassing baby cerise stories. cerise putting it all on the line to save raven. i’m ambivalent about shadow high but cerise gets literally one (1) mention and it’s in raven’s internal monologue wherein she equates cerise’s hood w feelings of warmth and safety. like how was that in any way necessary. i rest my case 

raven & maddie

self-explanatory as well. dabesties. the ride or dies. it means so much to me that raven always has a friend in maddie no matter how many clowns and jokers (derogatory) treat her like the antichrist. maddie the character ever

raven/apple

WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN. the gelphie dynamic is a classic and i am EXTREMELY vulnerable to it. they are THE ship and i will pay my respects to the end of time. i am a big fan of how they trade their roles throughout the franchise and how rich the drama and history are between them. it’s pure fucking poetry.

raven/darling

TBH. a serve. the only thing juicier than evil queen/damsel in distress is evil queen/princess charming. big big fan of darling giving raven the five star princess treatment after a lifetime of being feared and shunned and vilified. equally big fan of raven’s momentous act of rebellion giving darling the courage to be true to herself. ALSO. the absolute archetype-subversion slay of the Pure-Hearted Hero(TM) confronting the Mistress of Evil(TM) and dropping their sword. looking through the smoke and mirrors and the will of Fate itself to see the girl who has wanted nothing but to be kind beneath. swearing their heart and soul and sword to the one true good they have found. picture it. i can almost see the 100-word drabble

now THIS is just THE fairytale couple. the evil queen, the damsel in distress and the princess charming ALL holding hands and riding off into the sunset together. dappling on its own doesn’t do it for me but raven in the mix just makes everything gel perfectly. she’s the tomato in the ratatouille the cornstarch in the spring roll water, etc etc

darling/holly

this is one of those ships where i read a really convincing fic and the more i thought of it the more it just made sense. like they'd read swashbucklers and tales of courtly love together. holly would 100% write a darling placeholder in her self-insert romance fanfic pre-relationship as a way to express her feelings. darling would 100% find out and gently pull her out of the pit of sheer mortification she drilled into the ground to escape. also the height difference is a thing of beauty

they have one singular episode to their name and it was enough. it was Everything. the dynamic you can extrapolate from that one single interaction is so incredibly appealing to me. duchess’s bitchiness belied by her palpable air of vulnerability coming up against poppy’s spine of steel tempered by her skill in gaining perspective. poppy can challenge duchess into being a better person and duchess can be poppy’s character flaw like idk she just has shit taste in women that was the price she had to pay to be moisturized and unbothered by destiny. i just think they have the potential to be the unexpected, inexplicable power couple of eah

do i even need to say anything they had a whole movie to make their case. they’re rapple if rapple got their shit together before armageddon, with the bonus of a potential curse-breaking true love’s kiss for the fanfic authors to thrash between their teeth. truly unlimited. also unlike rapple where raven is 100% against being a villain and therefore it’s apple who has to do the mental gymnastics to open herself to the possibility of a relationship w raven, faybelle is just chomping at the bit to make her momma proud and presents a compelling perspective for the whole “falling in love w your fated nemesis” thing

blondie/cupid

they are icons, they are legends, and they ARE the moment. these two are so chaotic individually, what with blondie’s criminal skillset and habit of menacing innocent woodland creatures and cupid’s matchmaking powers combined w her shitty aim, that putting them together can only mean good things. there’s this whole element of their shared passion as public figures who at their best seek the truth and guide others through matters of the heart respectively that’s always interesting as a point of irony/obstacle when they start catching feelings and have to decide what to do with them. their joint youtuber/podcaster slay can level nations

I’ve barely started chapter 11 of IWICL but I do feel like this will probably be the last chapter. I’m going to try and make it the last one at least. It’s kinda crazy looking back at this verse, I never would’ve made this sequel if my muse wasn’t so insistent and of course those who read it being upset with my original ending (thank you to those supportive of me and my vision. You’re so real for this and I love you all and you’re the real reason I decided to continue the verse). I realize I’m too American for this fandom and my views are highly influenced by those around me (as a Vegas gal I tend to be perceived as wild versus the more conservative views of the majority of this fandom since it originates from an Asian country though… nope not gonna go there) which is probably why I fought so hard on writing this despite it being controversial and would give me a bad rep. Idk I’m just thinking thoughts instead of writing cause procrastinating is kinda my thing

It’s not October yet and I promised to work on finishing my WIPs but y’all have no idea the excitement I hold as a Swiftie and a Sportie. I am winning and the October prompts are about to be so much more fun for me!

Bedtime Stories

I’m multishipping garbage, so I decided to write a little TechPhee fix-it piece because they deserved so much better. They’ve also got a newborn.

Phee was pulled from the gentle sea of sleep by the precise staccato of a familiar whisper. Before giving birth to Aroha, she had been a heavy sleeper, but having a newborn had somehow made her more prone to waking at the slightest noise, her brain filled with one phrase: “the baby”. Phee rubbed the sleep from her eyes and rolled over towards the source of the sound. A broad, scarred, brown back topped by a head of grey-streaked auburn hair cut through the moonlight flooding through the window, and Phee felt warmth down to the very pit of her stomach.

She sat up and scooted towards the opposite edge of the bed. When she reached her husband’s warmth, she rested her chin on his shoulder. Tech glanced up from the quiet bundle in his arms and turned to Phee, stealing a quick but scorching kiss from her parted lips.

“The baby okay?” asked Phee, reaching down and stroking an old, silvery scar that ran like a ravine across Tech’s left pectoral.

“Yes,” he replied, still whispering, “Aroha was sound asleep. I, however, was not.” It wasn’t uncommon for Tech to pick their daughter up from the bassinet beside their bed in the middle of the night, and it had been like pulling teeth to get him to admit that his dreams were the catalyst.

“Another of your dreams?” asked Phee, reaching down to run a gentle index finger along Aroha’s chubby cheek. The newborn’s eyelids twitched, but she remained lost in slumber.

“The one with the needles and the electricity,” said Tech, his voice cracking. He pulled his daughter closer to his chest and took in a tremulous breath.

“Oh, Brown Eyes,” Phee said before tilting his strong chin towards her and kissing him deeply. She felt a tear escape her eye. When the kiss broke, Phee stroked the side of Tech’s neck. “It’s all over. You’re on Pabu.”

Author Love Letter - Scarlet

Folks, definitely chime in you want to add stuff because a lot of folks have probably met Scarlet in different contexts!

Also it's like 4am here so my spag and everything is going to be pretty bad. Sorry about that.

Scarlet, @givereadersahug on Tumblr and emeraldlove on AO3. Powerhouse of a human, brilliant multiship and multifandom writer, moderator, fest runner, community builder, absolute role model. 0% drama, 100% love. People first always. The Queen of giving without expectation.

We were like talking about having a Rec Fest sometime back in March 2023. Of course I was 100% talk 0% action. But Scarlet actually got a lot of great folks involved, started the fest, got comods to help out and literally just made it happen. That's a good TLDR intro: Make Things Happen Behind the Scenes. Like an iphone or something. Scarlet behind the scenes = it was going to work 100% without problems.

When I think about Snarry fandom, like any big and old fandom we have different folks with different strengths/contributions. Great writers, artists, podficcers, organizers. But it's pretty hard to find somebody whose first priority is making the fandom thrive because we are fans/fan creators, pretty attached to the stuff we are doing, we have time limits because fandom is a hobby and we have to prioritize between creating and community building a lot of times. Scarlet really said Community First, People First. I don't even know how to explain it but 0% transactional vibes.

Making space for people. Meeting folks where they are at. Obviously introverts have a hard time in communities sometimes. Some folks learn how to handle it. No judgment here because these experiences can be subjective. But I have seen Scarlet go the extra mile for folks who are new/introverted/feeling imposter syndrome/going through some complicated fandom experiences. Just being there for them and supporting them to get started.

Also a brilliant writer of darkfic!!! Scarlet's darkfic shorts are some of my all time favs because of how dark/delicious/intense they are. These fics really give me 2000s dirtyhotbadwrong vibes because of how totally out and proud they are about their fiction is not reality vibe. Tons of range and lots of genres but the darkfics get my special love because they are just dirtybadhotwrong shameless amazingness. Check out In His Bed to get a sense for that unique vibe! Her community building and cheerleading wins are huge but also her darkfic writing is some of my all time fav.

Also Queen of Attention to Detail. I have read some fests with her and she guessed authors just like that during anon phase. Just incredible observation Sherlock Holmes style.

My fav fest memory is doing Snapecase reading with her. She guessed the author for Candles Lit Against the Dark, @perverse-idyll based on the title because she noticed/connected a lot of the flame/shadow imagery in the author's other Snarry fics. I am pretty good about guessing some authors myself because I can identify their style but guessing from the title is advanced superpowers. I can't even!! So extra, Scarlet. So totally extra and I love love love <3

Another fav memory I have is about analyzing fics with her. When HotD was airing eldritcher's Ossuarium was being written episode by episode. It was an insane time. We had a brilliant time analyzing those fics :D We were both passionate but Scarlet was so extra passionate, noticed tons of detail that was totally lost on me, really good at connecting the dots, just a hardcore close reader.

Also dead dove fics! 100% supporter of folks writing dead dove, incest, darkfics.

Also reccing older fics! Her Dudley phase was insane and she was finding fics from like 2000s on wayback just like that with some superhuman skills. On like websites I didn't even know existed. Really Sherlock Holmes <3

Also smaller fests. Scarlet supported a ton of Dreamwidth fests and got new folks to join them/introduced them to Dreamwidth culture and literally was the bridge between different types of fandom culture a lot of times.

Also reccing fic! Her recs for For I Have Found Salvation by @lumosatnight and also for @wilfriede's podfics have so much love/passion/enthusiasm and I just love those works 2x because of the emotional connect of her reccing <3

Also nwhiker! I really got into this author's Snack fic, Second Life because of Scarlet's passionate, passionate reccing. When Scarlet got into something the reccing happened with big big love and for me that was like the best thing ever because folks who love things with big love are just super special <3

Also my concrit buddy for movies. Ingmar Bergman to Audrey Hepburn to Past Lives just a total knowledge wikipedia about movies/movie making/movie meta/movie crit. I really changed my perspective about movies after learning from her. Also shows! Watching HotD and doing episode reviews with Scarlet is like one of my best memories ever ever ever <3 Also books!

Sometimes someone else’s happiness includes reading a character differently than you do. I mean if really I got a super mega idea/ better than smt I had envision before for my fic/main interpret, I could change it I guess. Or had it in some way. I am bad at choices for a couple of things.

But you see in my head I have like 5 different parents pairs possible for Maria for exemple. (I did write a little about it in the Maria hc post I will try to finish it tomorrow or after tomorrow!).

Some are like, compliant with each others and would fit anyway with my main timeline. (like everything is the same except 1-2 details) but with for exemple Gehrman or Laurence (or Evelyn) being related to her/her dad that just don't work and that would create a complete different timeline! (yes with dad gehrman it's a normal familial relationship!)

I know it could feel weird to some people I guess?? Maybe?? because people often have like ONE interpret ? (no I don't count multiships it's another thing XD)

I tell myself they would say : "wait so in your main story this characters have like this relationship and then you have another story where they are family instead? wtf girl?!💀" Well sorry I have like different folders with different types of papers who are clearly separated stories in my head!

Idk but for me those versions of the characters & timeline are really disconnected from one another! Instead of like two persons coming up with 2 difference versions it's just my crazy brain 💀

Like the characters, even with the same base, aren't the same (the boys became freaking blonde lmao and you know normal family relationship) not the same age, very different lore timeline events etc. They have similarities for personality traits etc but they aren't the same actually, they are very different characters from each others. Even Maria isn't the exact same characters/interprets between those.

That's why I still love many different interprets and reading peopke ones!

I know you guys are gonna ask what are all my versions then? Well I guess it's time... :

Main one/fic : Maria is Annalise's cousin, her mother is the late queen sister (Alternative one where Maria she had a sister too?)

Maria is actually Anna sister. Children of king & Queen / another mini half version where it's half sister? (could be compatible with the first one... but I think it's too much drama). I have one where they have other siblings too (they are lat least 4 hfbfbk)

Maria was the queen daughter and Annalise is like her aunt?

Gehrman & Evelyn are Maria parents

Laurence is Maria's father (if the cainhurst portrait is Laurence lmao)

Gehrman was a servant of Maria parents who where other nobles / distantly related to the royal family etc

Help I finally say it💀 (so yeah between my main and those alternatives concerning gehrman it's really like bot the same characters at all. not the same relationship at all) All of those are so freaking drama fuel too

But to be clear my main interprets/ fic verse I have imagined and written in my head like 80%+ of the entire story compared to probable 2-5% of the other I speak about here. It's just mini ideas like oh what if? But I din't really thought in depth about it. the timeline, different events etc I thought of almost nothing compared to my main.

Another exemple would be concerning Ludwig & Maria for exemple. Like were they friends/ horse besties /contemporain of each other like in my main? Did perhaps Ludwig was a child/teen when Maria passed away but knew her? Was he born after and never knew her but heard about her a bit? We'll never know how really it went. I think all could be very interesting! (we could even had did mico knew x or y characters etc but you get the point with those exemple)

So yeah your Rom's ones are amazing too! I didn't really thought of it in depth myself but you and crow (& faree) ones where they are siblings are hella cool as well! I love reading interprets.

I think what matters is to create a good and compelling story right? Something that people enjoy, are engaged with, smt you like, something with lot of DRAMA AND ANGST!!!!! (sorry XD).

Put something that would fit the story you want and want to tell!

It's up to us, to be left with what we wanna tell and what would be better to fit in. Anyway you can choose anything guys! There's so many possibilities! Why just choose only one and stick with it forever? When you can create dozens of different story that will all tell something interesting. And ultimately not one versions will be "superior" I believe they all can have a chance to tell something and to be great.

(also even if I tried to make my fic very canon compliant I knew the real canon would always be a bit different. Sometimes when you make stories adding stuff just for the stories make a better story in itself. That's why I added so many "little adventures" for the characters. That would just be a bit annoying without u_u like timeline are there but to make a story you need stuff to happen all the time! not just a handful of important lore events 😭 details too

oh and I am not even counting the absolutely non canon/AU with my ships brain rot XD)

So yeah in the end I am mostly satisfied with my ideas! I guess I wish I could just make more than one but it's complicated. And sometimes I am hesitating for little things.

I'm well aware Rhaenyra has plenty of faults, I am saying that the greens (as in, the characters) do not like her because of her gender, and not for stuff she does that’s actually wrong, also, idc that she did all of that i simply think she’s fun.

i am a Dark Daenerys believer. no, i don’t hate her - in fact, i really love her, although i do hate her show counterpart - I just think her arc is heading towards a dark path and being a villain protagonist is the more interesting route for her character.

I JUST FINISHED A REREAD and i Have started a rewatch of the tv series as a form of torture.

i first read this series when i was 16 in like 2012-2013. i love to bitch about the takes i’ve seen. i sometimes reblog really old ass graphics bc they deserve new life even tho the creators are long since deactivated. i sometimes make graphics that look like they’re from 2014 bc we should bring that style back dammit i hate the typography movement going on rn.
