Hwayugi or A Korean Odyssey is a show which started with so much promise but ended up being a bit of a disappointment. [Spoilers ahead]

My biggest gripes with the plot are (and these are only from the top of my head):

1. What was the relevance of samjang's death? She literally didn't do anything...

2. What about the all the premonitions that had been embedded in the plot such as the monkey will change fate or a human would save the world, nothing of the sort happened (if it had it would be so cool)

3. There needed to be more backstory on the characters especially secretary ma and devil king woo, furthermore the character of asanyeo was so paper-thin that she seemed to have no motivation for all the evil she was doing (except wanting the love of a man who was clearly unavailable and also completely uninterested)

4. Why did they do that to buja??? There's was not even closure neither to her mother's death nor to her relationship with PK

5. Same goes for Alice/Jade dragon, so much potential wasted

6. Why did Jin Seo-mi become more and more helpless as the show went on, she started out as a badass girl boss dealing with life's problems on her when Son O Gong's arrival suddenly turned her into a damsel in distress

7. I was not interested in the queen mother storyline at all as there was no backstory to be invested in

8. The villain was literally a caricature with nothing to make him stand apart

9. What reward did either samjang or the great save equal to heaven get for saving the world (conclusion: the spiritual realm folks are assholes)

Rant over... But I did enjoy the drama for the most part, especially Son O Gong who was a delight to watch and his bromances with the devil king woo and President Sa, I also loved the way he ended every sentence to Jin Seo-mi with because I love you in the early days, this all kept me interested so that I could watch the show till the end... But I must say the writers turned what could have been an epic show into a huge let down... Especially the last two episodes

Kdrama Recommendations 2018

*not just dramas from 2018 but ones i have completed in 2018 and enjoyed*

✨Just Between Lovers- My favorite drama from this year even though it began in 2017.   If you are looking for a drama with romance, angst, comfort, and just beautiful scenery, acting, a couple that love and respect each other a lot, and great music, this is the drama for you.  

✨I Am Not A Robot- Equally funny, sad and romantic, I loved this drama a lot more than I thought I would.  Yoo Seung-ho can like... get it.  The chemistry between the leads was really great and it  showed in the kiss scenes;) Overall a just really enjoyable drama.

✨Secret Love- Okay so this is an older drama that ran during 2013.  It stars Ji Sung and Hwang Jung-eum who are both master actors and also starred together in the later Kill Me Heal Me. This is a complete melodrama and each episode was a ride. Seeing Hwang Jung-eum in a role like this was really refreshing and showed the scope of her acting ability.  

✨I Am Human Too- Seo Kang-joon truly shines in this role as a sweet, innocent robot and also a jaded, angry chaebol.  Every episode kept me on the edge of my seat and the romance was so sweet that your blood sugar levels might spike just from watching.  

✨The Rise of Phoenixes- I am still in physical and emotional pain from this historical, romance, political drama. While it’s technically not a kdrama I still had to include it because of my love for it.  It made me have the same feelings that Moon Lovers did and the main female character is literally amazing.  The acting, set and costumes are to die for and it is also one of the only cdramas that has no voiceover which made it feel more real. 

✨Ashes of Love- Another cdrama but I also really enjoyed this one.  It is said to be a lot like Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms which I haven’t seen but have heard good things about. The romance between the two leads was very cute and swoon-worthy and if you like fantasy-like dramas you might enjoy this one. 

✨My ID is Gangnam Beauty- A drama that focuses on the fixation on outer beauty and perfection in Korea; that also features a make over but doesn’t show it in a completely positive light? Sign me up please. Plus Cha Eun-Woo is the most beautiful and kind person in this world and everyone should check out Astro because they are super talented and deserve more attention. 

✨Save Me- This drama was so different then anything I had watched before with its creepy cult plot line and thriller-esque moments. Seo Ye-ji played her part perfectly as did one of my favorite up and coming actors, Woo Do-hwan.  I suggest this if you want something out of the norm and super captivating. 

✨Thirty But Seventeen- This is the definition of a feel good, rom-com.  You can just sit back and enjoy it without having to think too hard about what is going on.  All the actors are super talented and make you love the characters they portray. 

✨Six Flying Dragons- Aired in 2015, this drama is a historical epic filled with action, political intrigue, revenge, and tragic romances. I was absolutely blown away with how good this drama was and how much I loved every character.  It was my last drama of the year and I couldn’t have ended it on a better one.

11: City - I don't...

Megumi liked to look at the city from a tall building. It allowed him to see all the lights and life in his known world. It was beautiful, seeing all the lights like stars. With so many lights twinkling, it was as if the darkness of the night could not touch this place.

Megumi swung his feet, looking up. On the downside, the city’s bright lights and ugliness hid the natural beauty of the stars. He couldn’t see them from here. It was rare to see the stars in a city like this.

“Hyung, is that you?”

Megumi turned to see Siwon heading his way. He turned forward, “Obviously, who else would be hanging up here like a madman?” 

“I know that you only come up here when you’re really upset or need space. But I think you shouldn’t be alone right now.”

Megumi avoided Siwon’s gaze. He’d been given an assignment that had no deadline. He’d need to leave this city that had become his home – away from that terrible place – to go and pretend he was someone else.

The Onyx Emperor had requested his services specifically. Not Ten the Jade Prince, the Emperor’s best assassin. Not Kagami the Black Moon, the Emperor’s favorite. Not even Seo the Golden Dragon. The Emperor’s personal guard. His. The Emperor wanted the Silver Rose, not the Rose, so at least his request was doable. The problem was that Megumi didn’t want to do his duty. 

He didn’t want to leave everyone behind.

“Hyung, I know you don’t like it. The Black Moon didn’t want you to do it, but they wouldn’t suspect you. You’d be perfect!”

“I know. I just. . .”

Megumi looked at the twinkling city underneath him. The beautiful, glittering lights. He sighed, “I don’t want to put on a mask for a long time. I already did enough of that.”

Siwon stood behind him, “I don’t know to what extent you mean that but you’re the best option the Emperor has. He chose you, the Silver Rose, over even his usual assassins. He needs you to do that for us.”

Megumi let himself lay down, staring at the only visible star in the sky. He reached out, “Us. For our future. That’s why he needs me. But I just don’t see me coming back completely as myself.”

“That’s okay. When that time comes when you need to stop being the mask, we’ll remind you who ‘Rosenfield Megumi’ really is.”

Megumi looked at Siwon, who was smiling down at him with so much confidence. Megumi smiled back. He knew that Siwon didn’t really understand that he didn’t have much of a choice anyways. He had to obey the orders of the Onyx Emperor. No one was exempt from disregarding orders from him.

“Let that be the concern of the future me. Right now, let me just look at this view.”

I might never see it again.

Siwon sat down next to him as Megumi sat up, the two of them overlooking the beautiful city they had taken residence in. Megumi could never admit that he had a feeling he would never see this view again in a very long time.

Köln (ots) – Seit 20 Jahren ist SUPER RTL einmal jährlich mit der TOGGO Tour im Bundesgebiet unterwegs und präsentiert auf 3000 Quadratmetern tolle Live Acts und Fernsehen zum Mitmachen. In diesem Jahr fällt der Startschuss am 3./4. Juni in Leipzig, auf dem Tourplan stehen danach unter anderem München, Berlin und Köln. Mit dabei sind die Schlager Boyband Feuerherz und Sängerin Jamie Lee (bekannt vom ESC), die Moderatoren Vanessa Meisinger, Paddy Kroetz, sowie den Neuzugängen Maria Meinert und Marc Dumitru führen gewohnt humorvoll durch den Tag.

Last of the 2016 WWW’s! KOREAN: ~ Hwarang: the Beginning Empress: Psh, yes? I have been a loooong-term fan of the Hwarang, and was thrilled that a drama was going to be made. So far, it doesn't like it's going to be the Six-Flying-Dragons-version that I wanted, but I'm still definately going to see exactly what kind of version it is, and hopefully it'll still be great. Ambassador: I've been looking forward to this since it was announced.  I'm keen to know more about the Hwarang.  This looks like it's going to take it to the level of cute idol drama set in history, and I was hoping for a more serious drama but it's really too early to tell one way or the other and I'm still greatly interested.  Especially with such names as Park Seo Joon, Park Hyung Sik, and SHINEE's Minho. Unni: Um....YES!!! ~ Goblin Empress: NAW, NOT INTERESTED, NOT MY THING, NOT A FAN OF THE WRITER, PLOT'S TOO WEIRD...and then  I kept seeing adorable pictures and watched the first two episodes, and... Korea has some fascinating legends, and so far this is a good blend of fantasy going cute instead of creepy. XD Ambassador: I wasn't going to for a few different reasons: 1- it's not my kind of drama, 2- It's written by Kim Eun Sook and even though she did a good job with DOTS, she had a fantastic co-writer on that one and I still haven't wiped the bad K.E.S. taste from my mouth after Heirs.  But a close friend suggested I should so I'm going to at least try it.  Also, I'm keen to see Lee El again, after her stellar performances in White Christmas and Liar Game. Unni: O.O *backs away slowly* Okay if anyone does ghost and goblin stories well, it’s Asia, they are really a thing here but no thank you. Ratings and ravings here are off the charts and I am like...no thanks.... Empress: See, that's what I said...but Korean goblins do not appear to be like Western-World goblins...so I'll see if it goes the wrong direction or not. XD ~ Solomon's Perjury Empress: YES. I am half-way through the Japanese movie series, which got interesting as soon as the student started setting up the trial, and very much looking forward to a Korean version. You can't repeat White Christmas, but if this is anything similar, I will like it. Ambassador: Sounds a bit like WC?  I'm definitely watching it for sheer curiosity's sake.  The female lead was a child actress in a few other dramas I've seen and she was good.  I'm interested to see how she transitions to older roles. Unni: I don’t want stories about dead bodies right now...no thank you. ~ Seven First Kisses Fairy/angel grants the wish of a girl who helped her out.  The girl wants a boyfriend, the angel gifts her seven amazing men to choose from.  Promo webdrama for Lotte Duty Free. Empress: *grins* a) this method of advertising just...wow...why doesn't everyone do that? b) THIS IS HILARIOUS c) DUH I'm watching it and will spend the entire time cracking up. Ambassador: Hmm.  Let's just take a look at the lineup of leads for it: EXO's Kai 2PM's Taecyeon PARK HAE JIN LEE JONG SUK LEE MIN HO JI CHANG WOOK LEE JOON GI It's every fangirl's fantasy come true (makes me wonder who the brains are behind it) and I'm absolutely watching no matter how cheesy it gets. Unni: I have a feeling I’ll end up screaming my way through this one...screams of laughter, embarrassment hiding, fangirling...whatever. My pillow will probably be stuffed in my face for half of this. CHINESE: ~ Candle in the Tomb Empress: O.o specialization in tomb configuration??? I did not know that was a thing. I'm kind of intrigued - if it's a psychological thriller, I'll go for it...if it's more spooky/supernatural...no thanks. Ambassador: Archaeology, danger and friendship in a cdrama.  Sounds like something I'd like. Unni: This one just creeps me out!!!! ~ Bu Liang Ren Season 2 Empress: Getting a sword is a very common theme, is it not? XD If there are literal kids in it, I'm kind of intrigued, but probably not intrigued enough to watch it any time soon. Ambassador: Typical wuxia fare but I'm interested, some far future date. Unni: Skipping, interesting but skipping. TAIWANESE: ~ Miss in Kiss Another installment in the Playful Kiss/It Started With A Kiss franchise.  Being touted as a remake of the original It Started With a Kiss TW drama. Empress: I just rewatched Playful Kiss. XD I can't deal with another version right now. (Even though I actually liked it a lot more the second time through. Weirdly.) Ambassador: Maybe?  After I watch the Japanese original and the Korean remake and the Taiwanese original. Unni: I have hated every version of this story! I CAN’T DO IT!!!! But I am going to try again because I am living in Taiwan and see how it goes. ~ The King of Romance Empress: I'm curious if it's supposed to be that she's actually Jade Girl or if she just thinks she is? It sounds like a twist on the usual love triangle...I'm up for fantasy but when we get angels-reincarnated-as-humans I'm a little skeptical. XD Ambassador: I don't usually go for star-crossed lovers rom-coms but this one with the time and history undertones looks pretty intriguing.  Lego Li is a pretty popular actor with several tw-entertainment bloggers I follow, but I've not yet watched one of his dramas. Unni: *bangs head into wall* We’ll see.... Which of these year-end dramas will you be watching?
