Honestly Pokemon Day having this yearly Pokemon Presents event is both a blessing and a curse.

Because like, Pokemon day is this annual celebration and hype event. And those are fun. Celebrating your favorite franchise with a fun event is fun! So is these Nintendo Direct type presentations that show new games and events to get excited for! It’s fun to be excited for things and sharing those with your friends and community!

But at the same time I won’t be surprised if this type of yearly hype event puts a pressure on the devs. Because like, the Pokemon Day Pokemon Presents is the Big Event. Since it’s Pokemons birthday people are expecting something big to show up. Something hypeworthy, something amazing! Like anything that isn’t hypeworthy, and it’s not worth your time. So the devs are essentially FORCED to announce something anything to keep the fans happy.

So, even if I feel a g9 feels too soon (assuming ScarVio is even G9 which I have my doubts on), I feel that GameFreak didn’t really have any other choice. Because like it or not, Pokemon Day has kinda become the E3 of Pokemon. People are expecting a new exciting experience, something to rock their socks of. So had we not gotten G9 (or anything monumental) people would’ve been disappointed, because this Big Birthday event didn’t give us anything Big Birthday like.

I don’t know if anyone remembers, but 2015 was the last year we went completely without anything main-series Pokemon (assuming Lets Go counts). And the fandom was. Absolutely insufferable. They were absolutely impatient and angry, feeling that Gamefreak had essentially abandoned us for not releasing anything.

And I wonder if Gamerfreak is somewhat aware of this. Because since 2016 we have always gotten something even if it’s a spinoff like Lets Go or outsourced like BDSP. And while part of this is so they can keep the Three Year Cycle and have the multimedia franchise rolling, I feel that part of it is so they don’t disappoint fans. Because as much as we say that we want Gamefreak to take a break from annual releases people got really pissed off. So I feel a big reason GF does annual releases is to keep the fanbase happy.
