National Drink Wine Day is definitely celebrated in our home more often than once a year. 😆 We certainly don’t need a random themed day to uncork some tasty juice to celebrate. 🍷 Nonetheless, we took the opportunity to choose a selection from one of our favorites. @waylanwineco in @losolivosca inside @santaynezvalley. 🌟 This 2017 Cab Sauv from Riata Oaks Vineyard had some fresh fruit flavors despite some age on the wine with a smooth profile and a lingering, enjoyable finish that we’ve come to savor from Waylan’s wines. Only 2 barrels of this were made, a great selection to cheers this wonderful day. #travelsuncorked #wine #nationalwineday #winelover #cabernet #cabernetsauvignon #cabsauv #waylanwineco #losolivosca #losolivos #blackandwhite #drinkwineday #santaynezvalley #winecountry #santaynezwinecountry (at North PHX) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co092PbLWl_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The best memories are made when nothing is planned. I went by the Forest Ave location last night after playing some tunes with my buddy @tommybenson322 and decided to have a quick taste and say hello to a new guest. They were Just passing by, saw a sign that says “Wine Tasting” and decided to stop in. The next thing you know… we are chatting… hanging out… exchanging numbers… and making moments that will last the test of time. Isn’t that how it is supposed to be? When someone joins the wine club, takes home 100 bottles of wine, and says they are looking for new ways to help others… well you just have to tip your hat. Giving back is what matters the most. Let’s raise our glass to our newest members…. Who truly understand what we mean when we say Family, Faith, Friends, Freedom. People matter. Moments matter. A good glass of wine brings people together. Cheers. Make today count. It matters. #lagunabeach #livelagunabeachdogs #forestave #wine #winery #wineclubbuzz #winefriends #socal #mcclain #giveback #helpothers #solvang #irvine #buellton #santaynezvalley #santaynez (at Laguna Beach, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkTqHjovkFe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Just stunning at 13. Ripe round nose, gobs of tertiary, smacks of Apple Jacks and a wee bit vegetal, a length of soapy cinnamon and rust matching the rim of ruby. Not a blockbuster in the mouth by far. Refined and subdued, with brilliant pieces lurking behind each brain-cell. Perfect mellow cherry, a gasp of acid tingly and nice. Tannins polished to a crispy tarnish, probably drinking at near-peak. This is some of Doug Margerum's handiwork, from 3 Creek Vineyard way before they started putting HAPPY CANYON on a front label--and long before the AVA. I still to this day run into people who are surprised the Santa Ynez Valley grows anything other than Pinot and Chardonnay. Happy Canyon and Eastern SYV are one of my favorite places for cab & kin in the world. A beautiful visit, this bottle is kind of a blast from the past and I doubt if there's any more around. 🍂 Vineyards with Fall color pops at @foleyestates. While harvest time with large clusters of grapes on vines is certainly a wonderful time to visit a vineyard, we enjoy traveling to wine regions year-round to see the changing of the seasons. This provides perspective for how much of what in your wine glass starts with farming and the people who invest constant care and attention into getting the best fruit from their fields. Next time you visit a vineyard, we encourage you to ask them what is currently happening in the grape growing process. They might be pruning, having bud break, leafing or stressing the vines. This insight leads us to have an even greater appreciation for place and what we’re tasting. Cheers! 🍷 . . . #travelsuncorked #vineyard #vineyards #foleyestates #foleyestatesvineyard #wine #foleyestate #winery #farming #fallcolors #grapegrowers #grapes #winegrapes #winetravel #winetravelling #winecountry #travel #traveling #santaynezvalley #winderlust #travelphoto (at Foley Estates Vineyard & Winery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWr_WocLsVd/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sharp buttery nose. Now I realize what happens every time I use 'butter' in a white wine review. Some little somm-dexter in the front row shoots up their hand. Listen, just because your mom drinks Meridian doesn't mean I can't use the word 'butter', and loyal readers know the word is always qualified with another descriptor. Every thing out there in a glass isn't nearly as black & white as they made it sound in your WSET-1 class. Sharp buttery nose. A fatty foundation is under-pinned with spicy herb and mineral. Or is it the other way around? A spicy foundation is woven with fatty under-pinnings? I think actually the latter. Green and gorgeous to smell, a richness of melon and pear and peach-blossom equal to the dusky, dusty cloud encompassing the bouquet. There's nothing quite like Chenin. This winery is always in my Top-10 TR suggestions when out-of-towners query. That recommendation usually gets a little raised eyebrow from those moderately familiar with the brand. This is a well-done label top-to-bottom in the roster, but yes, there are some really user-friendly entry-level wines with almost embarrassingly un-snobby marketing (read: TO THE 99) at one end of the rather lengthy line-up. But this doesn't look like the Field Recordings label you're used to now does it? Relax, gentle reader, McConnell's not gonna steer you wrong. This wine--and its Derbyshire Pinot sibling--rests quietly down at the very end of the row. not cheap, not gaudy, not average. Rich and creamy in the mouth, but with an almost-spritzy charge revealing early and tingling far into the finish. Applesauce and pineapple bitterness give taste-buddal-orgasms (TBO) easily and happily while the middle thins out to near-quaffable refreshment. But this is not a quaffing wine. This wine means business. Beautiful through & through. 2017 @fieldrecordingswine #Chenin Blanc Jurassic Park VYD #SantaYnezValley 11.3 #libbeyglass (at Field Recordings) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_YzcG0nF2k/?igshid=ee09toccinem

West Coast Weekend Getaway Ojai, Santa Ynez & Mammoth
I’m not sure if it was the right thing to do, but as soon as Governor Newsom opened up restrictions 2 weeks ago, to Outdoor dining, short term rentals and winery’s. I quickly booked a weekend getaway to Santa Ynez Valley for a little Vino, fresh air and cozy vibes. Just a two hour drive from Los Angeles and there we were.
First Stop was Ojai, for an outdoor lunch @Azu. A delicious eatery of Mexican and Spanish menu hosting great cocktails and Ojai Valley Brewery beer. The outdoor patio setting is rustic with a home comfort feeling, filled with barn lights and native greens.
Before we continue, I‘d like to share my outfit. I wore a vintage re-purposed custom embroidered jumpsuit by @fromheretotherecurated I love wearing these jumpers, especially when traveling because of the effortless attitude that take you from here to there without compromising style. I paired with a Vintage Gucci Handbag and Veja Sneakers for a low-key vibe. Check out the website for limited pieces…
I love spontaneous travels; the discovery of local shops, eats, hiking trails, etc. Upon walking around this charming town, I stumbled across Canyon Supply a small local shop featuring independent creatives, i.e a CO-OP. Carrying unique sneakers, custom vintage, and fun novelty tees with embroidery. I picked up a pair of Crosty sneakers giving me a Stella McCartney-Chloe vibe.
If your feeling adventures explore the outdoors and go for a light nature hike. Shelf Road Trail is an easy trail about 3.5 miles taking an hour and a half. We took this trail after lunching at Azu; It’s a perfect trail to enjoy the beautiful Ojai Valley views before heading out to Santa Ynez Valley.
Next stop, The Landsby a refined and modern boutique hotel with a hint of Scandinavian interior decor located in Santa Ynez Valley. The Landsby’s neutral palette, casual-warm vibes and cozy seating, is balanced with fun and whimsical art by Rachel Brown. The Lobby highlights an edited assortment of Santa Ynez General; a must go see shop in town.
The Landsby restaurant MAD & VIN is a must, featuring seasonal ingredients from the central coast. Outdoor courtyard seating with lots of heat lamps to keep you comfortable and warm while enjoying delicious eats, local wines, and craft cocktails.
Santa Ynez General is a must see boutique in town. The shop is inviting, casual, and refined. Beautifully curated home goods, books, apothecary, and every Feburary the owners Pearson and Spencer highlight apparel by independent creatives. As a West Adams resident, I was thrilled to see Hiro Clark super cool graphic tees carried at the shop. Fair warning you may purchase a thing or two and if you missed it here, there is an edited in-store shop at The Landsby Hotel.
Okay, now that I’ve shopped @SYG, We stopped at a local favorite El Rancho Market Place for a few sandwiches and a charcuterie plate prior to wineries. Making this a perfect pairing to wine tasting.
We visited three wineries (Uber and Car Services available). The first Buttonwood Farm Winery, the second Barbieri Wines, and finally Sunstone Winery. All three were great, I really enjoyed Buttonwood Farm Winery because of the open farm, cute prop decor, spacious seating, great service, generous portions, and white wines. Sunstone had a great wine tasting menu and a large open layout, but felt a bit more like a production. Three wineries, doubles of charcuterie life is feeling good.
While in Los Olivos, I popped into a few additional shops. Check out Global Eye Collective. An eclectic assortment of bohemian inspired goods.
The road trip is ending, but before heading back to West Adams we stopped in Montecito for some delicious Italian eats at Tre Lune one of my favorite eateries in Santa Barbara.
Part two: The West Coast Road Trip continues….to Mammoth mountain for some winter vibes, chilly snow, and snowboarding. I’m a snowboard light type of girl which means I’m pretty bad. But the Sun was shining bright, the snow was fluffy and I gave it a shot. Because this was a spontaneous trip Mammoth, was sold out of short term rentals. We were lucky enough to find a spot @Le Motel6, that’s right Motel 6. I was pleasantly surprised the motel was descent and good enough for a short trip. Currently, the restaurants are serving takeout only which is tough to sit outside because of the cold evening temperatures. Tip: Most people pick up their dinner and take it back to their stay which is what we did too, preferring a nice warm place.
Despite the restaurant situation, it was such a great fun trip!
The early drive from here to there was so beautiful watching the sunrise, driving through red rock, and tiny old western towns. Once arriving in Mammoth the fresh air, snow on the mountains, pine trees and ground were spectacular. During my stay, I made Stellar Brew my morning coffee go-to spot, Elixir for a healthy lunch and my favorite dinner spot Mammoth Tavern. For our daily brewery break Liberty Sports Bar & Grill, and The Public House.
Stay Connected for more In The Know highlighting travel, eats, and inspiring creatives..…
