they're really going for the "everyone going to be a little bit opposite of who they were in s1" theme in season 2 fr

yingdu arc if it was a play is like if lu guang memorized the script (not just his lines, but everyone else's lines too). and then when he got on stage, he realized everyone else is acting based on a different script from him that he doesn't know about, and cheng xiaoshi is the improv actor they put there who wouldn't have followed either version of the scripts anyway because he's there to improv. maybe he never got the scripts in the first place
