R/n: a trampoline.
Zoffy: huh...

Seven: Have you two seen a Trampoline?
R/n: Went that way [Points where they last saw it.]
Seven: .... Were there any kids in it?

List 5 topics you can talk on for an hour without preparing any material.
I was tagged by @bunny-banana - thank you!
1. 19th century fashion. How it changed over time, the various layers and garments, how the industrial revolution changed manufacturing, the disappearance of regional fashions... God, Common Misconceptions alone would take more than an hour.
2. Detectorists. Beautiful, warm sitcom that explores friendship, disappointment, history, the relationship between people and landscapes. There's a very subtle mysticism all the way through and the music (by The Unthanks and Johnny Flynn) is glorious.
3. Sasha Regan's all-male Gilbert & Sullivan productions. They are SO GOOD OMG. Absolutely magical pieces of theatre: fluid, poignant, beautifully staged, very funny, very queer, gorgeously sung.
4. Fin-de-siècle gothic horror. Go on, ask me about invasion narratives, hypocrisy, and homosexuality in Dracula/ The Picture of Dorian Gray/ Jekyll & Hyde. I actually did an off-the-cuff mini lecture about queerness in Dracula once when we were doing a New Year's Eve party on zoom in 2020 as a forfeit. But I was pissed as a newt so I don't remember any of it.
5. Various poems by Philip Larkin - most specifically Church Going, An Arundel Tomb, and First Sight
Tagging @vinceaddams @mischieffoal @shimyereh @stoportotouch @hegodamask

Ritually Bent Bronze Age Sword Found in Denmark
The sword, which has iron rivets in its handle, may be one of the earliest iron artifacts found in Denmark.
A metal detectorist has unearthed a long, bronze sword that was bent into an S shape during an ancient ritual in what is now Denmark.
The sword and other artifacts — which were found in a bog near Veksø, northwest of Copenhagen — date to about 2,500 years ago, during the late Bronze Age. They are thought to have been part of a ritual sacrifice, although this practice was no longer common at that time. Upon discovering the artifacts, the metal detectorist notified the Danish museum group ROMU.
"It's what I would describe as a very rare find," excavation leader Emil Winther Struve, an archaeologist and curator with ROMU, said in a translated statement.
Although such items were often deposited in bogs as sacrifices during the early and middle Bronze Age in northern Europe, "We don't know that many from the latter part of the Bronze Age," he said. However, the practice of sacrificing or killing people in bogs — leaving behind remains known as "bog bodies" — spans a longer period, from the Stone Age to the 19th century.
Ritual sacrifice
In addition to the bent sword, archaeologists found other Bronze Age artifacts, including two small, bronze axes; several large, bronze "ankle rings"; and what may be a fragment of a needle, according to the statement.
A few days later, the archaeologists also discovered a large, bronze "neck ring" just 230 feet (70 meters) away. The neck ring is only the second of its kind found in Denmark, and the archaeologists think from its style that it was imported from what's now the Baltic coast of Poland.
Bronze Neck Ring
The bronze sword's handle contains two iron rivets that may be the earliest iron ever found in Denmark. The ROMU statement described the sword as "almost a physical manifestation of the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age."
The sword's design suggests it was not made in Denmark but rather in more southern parts of Europe that were dominated by the Hallstatt culture during the Bronze Age, the statement said. The Hallstatt culture thrived from about the eighth to the sixth centuries B.C. and was influenced by Europe's early Celtic culture.
The ritually bent sword was a genuine weapon and indicated a transition from more lightweight swords used mainly for stabbing, Struve said, "but now they are becoming tougher, more solid and have a different weight, so you can use them more violently and for chopping."
The Hallstatt culture had a warrior ideal that demanded conquest, war and conflict. "The sword is perhaps an image of that," Struve said.

Square/Prompt: A3-Crossover (Show)
Title: Search through the loamy earth for me
Rating: G
Ship(s): Dream of the Endless/Hob Gadling
Warnings: n/a
Additional Tags: The Detectorists, metal detecting
Not at all fleshed-out lil fic about Hob joining the Detectorists to try and find one of his missing treasure caches. I love the Detectorists. I want to come back to this fic properly one day and properly work on it, but for now, I'll fill this prompt with it. :)
When Hob Gadling walks into the weekly meeting of the DMDC on a fine day in May, he is greeted by looks of mild bewilderment by the existing club members, who are all sitting in a lopsided circle drinking cups of weak tea out of old duck egg blue cups and apparently enjoying a discussion about the latest discoveries unearthed in the Danebury countryside, namely two buttons and a 1977 matchbox car. Apparently new members looking to join is a sufficiently rare occurrence that initially no-one knows what to do but stare. However, once Hob makes a plea for his case- and hefts his new and rather expensive Minelab Manticore Metal Detector into view for all to see- he is welcomed with open arms, and his very own cup of watered-down tea.
“Hob, eh?” says Terry, the de facto leader of the DMDC, when Hob introduces himself. “An appropriately medieval moniker. And what brings a fine fellow like yourself out to our corner of the world?”
Hob is in fact here for the very specific reason of wanting to rediscover one of his old hoards. He is 100% sure that he buried it… somewhere in this corner of North Essex, but the centuries are long: borders change, names evolve, and even his memory has its fallibilities. This is not something, however, that he can share with these affable looking chaps without coming off like a complete nutter, so he makes up something vague about having an interest in Saxon history and having heard the rumours of a Saxon ship-burial around these parts somewhere.
This immediately draws Lance and Andy to him, best friends and accomplished local detectorists. Andy is certain there is a Saxon ship-burial waiting to be found beneath the fields of a nearby farm, and he is pleasantly surprised to have a fellow believer join their club. Lance is less convinced about the probability of Saxon treasure, but he is impressed with Hob’s top-of-the-range detector and invites him to join them on one of their detecting ventures the next day.
Hob spends an enjoyable amount of time out in the fields with Lance and Andy. He supposes metal detecting could be quite boring for some people, but he’s learned to enjoy the slow things and there’s something inherently good about spending time outdoors in the late spring, and something kind of exciting every time his detector beeps.
Occasionally, Dream joins them in the field. Hob explains about his rather odd boyfriend over drinks at the Two Brewers one night, and the two men take Dream’s random appearances and quiet and slightly menacing presence in their stride. Lance in particular seems to enjoy talking with Dream and explaining his craft, while Dream himself is a receptive audience, listening gravely and nodding along as they walk together.
Hob overhears a snatch of their conversation one time, and stops to listen properly
“See, archaeologists, they gather up the facts, piece the jigsaw together, work out how we lived and find the buildings we lived in, but what we do is… that’s different. We unearth the scattered memories, mine for stories, fill in the personality. Detectorists. We’re time travellers.” Lance is saying. He is holding something in his hand that Hob can’t see but that Dream is looking at with interest. He glances up and over a Hob, raising a mildly impressed eyebrow. Hob laughs, yes he can see why Dream likes this one. He always finds the ones with stories in their hearts.
Hob doesn’t end up finding his lost hoard, but he is present for the moment that Andy and Lance unearth their own special find: turns out Andy’s theory about the ship-burial was spot on after all.

sifting through the earth. studying late into the night. the tap of a walking stick on cobblestones. if you want something done right, do it yourself. shirtsleeves rolled to the elbow. an heirloom wristwatch. a pair of glasses with simple black frames. a hands-on approach. licking your wounds. the crumbling face of an ancient statue. the hush of a museum at night. a fountain pen tucked into a breast pocket. defending your choices. recognising pieces of yourself in those that came before.

other things.
Chandran has walked with a cane since his accident. He is rarely seen in public without it, but will limp around his own home unassisted as a matter of principle.
He’s a passionate detectorist, and can often be found combing the beach and the riverbank for historical treasures.
A copy of Chandran’s book can be found in the Pelican Town library, but it’s an extremely dry read for anybody that isn’t interested in ancient civilisation.
His guilty pleasure is loving The Mummy (1999), in spite of the many, many inaccuracies.
Chandran is wholeheartedly a cat person, but thinks adopting one would be the final nail in the coffin of him giving up on romantic companionship completely.
Instead of the typical cake (which he doesn’t like), Chandran has a cheeseboard every year on his birthday. This tradition was started by his friends at university, in a gesture that both pleased and horrified him - extremely thoughtful, but very expensive for a handful of students!

Tagged by @stripedroseandsketchpads to post my comfort shows, but I have posted those already (though thanks to tumblr search I can't find the post on mobile. They were, uh.... The Terror; Utopia; Ghosts; Futurama; Detectorists; Atla; Ripper Street; Garrow's Law; Lupin...? Something like that)
So I will do another meme I saw doing the rounds, the recent media meme!
Currently reading: just today I finished Study for Obedience by Sarah Bernstein, as far as I can recall, the third book I've managed to finish this year. It was...compelling is the word I keep returning to. Many of the strands fascinated me: unreliable narrator filled with self-deprecation despite her clear skills and accomplishments, unspoken history of personal and intergenerational (particularly antisemitic) trauma, folkloric omens and a growing, sinister atmosphere with incestuous overtones...but ultimately it was too opaque for me. I wanted the strands to come together, or at least for the scenes with the villagers to be contextualised somehow.
Fic I'm currently reading: well, I keep going over @distressednoise 's Magaluf AU hoping there will be more :') and I really must make myself have a Lymond day and catch up with @stripedroseandsketchpads 's fic file! Also I must get on and educate myself further in @r0b0tb0y 's archive
Last song: introducing my dad to the joy of Half Man Half Biscuit - Asparagus Next Left, because there was a layby seller of holly wreaths near our new house just before Christmas, and since they ran out of wreaths they took most of the hand-written signs down so now there's just one mildly sinister arrow and the sign reading 'layby'.
Currently watching: just finished S1 of Loki, which was fun! (apart from the predictably wanky acceleration up its own MCU fundament of the Kang scenes in the last episode, now delightfully combined with the knowledge that Jonathan Majors was so bad even Marvel let him go). But I was pleasantly surprised overall, and I love Mobius. Mobius describing Loki/Sylvie for what it is was my favourite moment, because none of Mobius's pronouncements seem judgemental, just thrilled by the variety of existence, in a very Owen Wilson way :))
Though literally currently watching The Lion in Winter, which was chosen as the family NYE movie over The Green Knight.
Next on my watchlist: when I get my own telly watching schedule back I can't wait to watch Blue Eye Samurai. I should also finish Castlevania...
Current obsession: Brasso. Cassian. Brassian. I'm sorry to everyone else who is being lovely and wonderful and passionate about other fandoms and other fics in my inboxes, but they are my home right now. I've been mulling saga AU pt 2 and another canon-verse one shot today and it's made me very happy :)
Consider yourself tagged if you're reading this and want to do a meme! Say I tagged you and I will delight in reading your answers :)

Oh goody, I've been tagged!
Thanks, @mygreatadventurehasbegun!
Last song: "Don't Go for the One" by Gaelic Storm. (I did a Celtic radio show today, and I ended with that as something fun and fluffy.)
youtube
Last movie: The last one I finished was Rush Hour 3--I've been filling that gap in my pop culture knowledge. I have started Shazam: Fury of the Gods but didn't have time to finish it today.
Currently watching: Miss S, The Gilded Age, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig, and The Detectorists. Oh, and Paradiso (Il Paradiso delle Signore), off and on.
Currently reading: Possession by A.S. Byatt--I've been meaning to read that for ages and finally got the itch to actually do it after rewatching parts of the movie to screencap a costume. Also The Hollow Needle by Maurice LeBlanc for a Lupin book club.
Currently craving: Cinnamon rolls. Kind of my default thing to crave, because I really love cinnamon rolls.
Last thing I researched: How to turn off hardware acceleration in Chrome.
Tagging @coeli1000, @jchance4d4, and @giuliettaluce, or anyone else who would like to play!

💚💚 back again with more questions for you askbox lol
I'm taking a break from my lazy Sunday morning listening to Scottish metal bands (well, Scottish metal band) to ask what kind of music you think each member of the 141 would prefer to listen to? Do they have favorite bands? Favorite songs? What does their weekend cleaning music playlist look like????
What about you? What kinds of music do you like the most?
💚💚 anon! hello! i'm sorry that i left this sitting in my askbox for so long. your lazy sunday morning music sounded wonderful!
so many music asks! and christ, i don't even know where to start! i'm sure i've mentioned before in one of my #pfh talks about england posts/answered asks (#pfh answers) a vague idea of the 141's music taste but i can't find that post for love nor money!
my music taste is all over the place, but it skews quite sad in general.
there's lots of indie, britpop/britindie, occasional glimmers of disco, classical covers/quartet arrangements of pop songs, some proper "dad music" (AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan), Celia Cruz, Tina Turner and Sampa The Great on my playlist.
i'll give you my 5 most recently played songs so you can get an idea of what i mean:
Graffiti On the Train - Stereophonics
Detectorists - Johnny Flynn
OMG - Sampa The Great
Hey Ya! - Alban Claudin
Blinding Lights (Medieval Cover Version) - Bardcore
#pfh answers#💚💚 anon#pfh headcannons#i'm in a johnny flynn kind of mood at the moment#celia cruz is my dance in the kitchen music#and the medieval style/bardcore music is because i'm writing something and need the vibes
