helpful hint for non-Norwegians streaming Rykter

several youtube channels have posted translations of S1 and S2 with English subtitles (and we hope they will do the same for S3). here’s one example:

but in the meantime, if you don’t speak Norsk and still want to stream the episodes as soon as they premiere, read below!

i recommend using the NRK dual subtitles chrome extension!!

step 1. add this extension to your chrome browser

step 2. access the episode on NRK’s website using your preferred VPN to bypass the geoblock

step 3. click the extension and choose your preferred language

step 4. turn on captions and press play. the Norsk subtitles will appear side by side with your preferred language in real time

i have used this with other shows as a language learning tool and find the translations to be fair quality. occasionally the translator will throw a wrong word in, especially with slang words, different dialects, etc. but in my experience they are usually descent enough to get the major plot points of the episode even if you don’t speak the language!!

Season 3 was interesting but kind of weird, how are we supposed to accept that Erik became like that during 1 summer, when he spend almost all s1 and s2 showing he was a nice guy?🤔

If they do end up fighting and distancing themselves after ep 05 and we know that by the end of the season erik will be with Olivia, I fear the writers will stretch the miscommunication a bit too much just for the sake of drama.like a whole season of them barely speaking to each other and mathias suffering?? and we don't even have the certainty that they'll end up together next season like my God give us strength 😭

Honestly a fight would be good for them I think. And then they can kiss and make up.

I agree that miscommunication will probably play a big part in all this. I feel like Erik is giving Mathias many hints and opportunities to make a move but Mathias is pushing him away. He wouldn't even go to the party/barbecue at the dorm until Olivia told him Erik had left 😔 Mathias is having a hard time, I hope it gets better for him soon (we know it won't)

Had some thoughts on a few of the Rykter characters and figured I'd share. Keep in mind this is based on what we've seen of them in S1 and S2 only.

Thea - Pathological liar. Deeply fucked in the head. I just can't feel sorry for her. The things she does are so vile and she actually seems to takes pleasure in it. I don't give a fuck about her dead mom. It doesn't excuse her awful behavior and she knowingly uses it to make herself the victim when in reality she's a bully.

Sara - A genuinely nice person, but extremely obtuse when it comes to seeing what is right in front of her face. She only seems to give a fuck about Thea who gives absolutely zero fucks about her. Meanwhile Synovve has listened to her, been a shoulder for her to cry on and even accompanied her to boxing classes to show her support, and Sara can't even be bothered to take the time to hear the girl out because God forbid Thea be left alone for 2 seconds. Also, the way she tried to tell Synovve she must be wrong about her boss was disgusting. Don't get me wrong, I like Sara. Especially her friendship with Erik (and Mathias). But the girl has some major flaws.

Mathias - Has done and gone along with some pretty fucked up things. Some deserved but others not so much, particularly when it comes to Sara and Erik. That said... I do beleive that deep down he's a really nice guy. And he's slowly but surely coming into his own and forming his own opinions, which allows him to act in a much more considerate way. His protectiveness of Erik after the team attacked him and after finding out about the attack from Erik's old teammates was admirable. Also, I think he does show remorse for a lot of the things he does and so his moral compass is getting stronger the more he breaks away from his group of friends especially Felix.

Erik - An absolute angel compared to the folks in this town. He's so quiet and moody, but mainly just a decent person who doesn't get caught up in a lot of the bullshit that drives his peers. He only gets angry when pushed to his limit and even then he just wants to be left alone. I love how Mathias and even Sara was able to break him out of his shell. Overall the best thing to happen to that little town and seems to bring the good out of the people he is close with.

Felix - has some sort of weird fixation on Mathias and deep-seated jealousy. The way he orchestrated that attack on Erik by making up a story and then convincing everyone it had to be true was villainous. I think he hinges a lot of his self worth on his relationship with Mathias so when they start to drift apart he desperately tries to hold on. I try to remember that he only just turned 15 so he was 14 at the beginning of the season which is a literal child. But it doesn't excuse his reprehensible behavior.

Datt med et uhell innom Rykter på NRK. Synes eeeegentlig ikke noe særlig om det (føler meg for gammal), og plutselig hadde eg sett alle episodene og venter spent på sesong 3. Akkurat samme som med SKAM Isak og Even sin sesong. Plutselig heilt hekta!

"Came across Rykter on NRK by accident. I don't really think much of it (I feel too old), and suddenly I had seen all the episodes and am eagerly waiting for season 3. Exactly the same as with SKAM Isak and Even's season. Suddenly completely hooked!"

Honestly same! I think I stumbled on a video of them on YouTube and when I saw that it was an NRK show that really sparked my interest. I ended up binging S1 and S2 on the NRK site and by the end was desperately wanting to see more.

I sometimes hesitate to compare it to Skam, because I think of Skam as this unique experience that is unparalleled, BUT somehow this show managed to invoke those same feelings in me that Skam did all those years ago and thats like catching lightning in a bottle. The fact that NRK has managed to do this to me twice now is surreal.
