Blair Cramer. (Mia Korf, Kassie DePiva) (One Life To Live-GH)
Ethan Lovett (Nathan Parson, James Ryan)
Jerry Jacks (Julian Stone, Ssebastian Roche).
So, the recent recast of Jagger Cates made me aware than in the past, other soap characters had been recast by actors who did not resemble their predecessors. These are a few.

EuroTrip | Part 34 | A Very Different Challenge
#FM24 #EuroTrip Part 34: A Very Different Challenge. An unusual career step takes Trebor Mahtal from Austria to northern Wales. And a dropoff from the top Welsh sides gives his semi-pro @ColwynBayFC an unlikely shot at the title. Read here:
Trebor Mahtal had spent the last decade winning national titles and competing with Europe’s football elite. However, he was getting bored of strolling to title wins and on the hunt for a new challenge that tested his coaching abilities. The nations remaining on Mahtal’s European list were Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Gibraltar, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Northern Ireland, Poland, Turkey…

I was really surprised that David Roche just won Leadville, but then I looked at who else was running and it was mostly people I'd never heard of (though tbf I can name fewer than half as many male ultrarunners as female) and Ryan Montgomery was racing in the nb category. So now I am less surprised. But I'm still very surprised that he set a course record! If gambling on ultrarunning was a thing, a handful of people who placed what I'd call a very stupid bet would have just won a lot of money
#that man has had covid so many times and was literally hit by a truck a couple months ago lol#and he's never run a 100M and not because he's new to pro trailrunning (he's not)

Nickel Bin #2:
The Roches' Hammond Song
Some songs have no peers.
There's nothing comparable to Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone: while his efforts to write another anthem are many, and they vary from the successful (Knocking on Heaven's Door) to the underappreciated (Changing of the Guard) to the overrated (Gotta Serve Somebody) to the annoying unless you are in a very weird mood (Brownsville Girl), he, and everybody else, has never come close to a comparable synergy of warmth, anger and energy.
I think The Roches' Hammond Song is equally unique. Suzzy, Terre and Maggie Roche never climbed a musical mountain like it again in their fitful, joyful and far too short career together, and I don't know any other song or group that presents such bizarre and daring vocals (they range from startlingly androgynous to winningly effete and back again); where else can you hear three such utterly distinct voices sharing a space with such elegance? Add to that mix the unique layers afforded by the song's length and its guitar solos, plus its confusing but vital story, and you've got yourself a masterpiece.
Let's listen.
youtube
First of all they're not singing about Heaven. They're singing about Hammond, Louisiana and Maggie and Terre's decision, years earlier, to ditch their budding music career altogether. It seems there was a Kung Fu school (seriously!) in Hammond that a friend was running and that seemed like a better place to be than in New York City, wearing clothes assigned to them by their record company.
The song is a natural cousin to Cat Stevens' Father and Son: In Hammond Song The Roches present a musical debate between the patriarchs in their life and themselves; they sing both sides of the argument and they let you choose the winner.
The song opens with a long, suspenseful opening that gives way to warm strumming and then the refrain's three part harmony. But then it swerves for the first wild time into Maggie Roche alone, and she's telling the band they're "on the wrong track". What other voice is like hers? I'm afraid my sexist biases hear her unique contralto and summon up a woman on a motorcycle with arms the size of my thighs who smokes six packs a day and would happily kick my ass while having yet another. But here she is:
Maggie died 6 or 7 years ago. My famous brother's friend Ryan, who recently bought me a very delicious beer at a Yo La Tengo show, sobbed when he heard the news. The more time I spend listening to Maggie's music, the more I understand where he was coming from. Just take a listen to Quitting Time from the same record:
youtube
At the end of each section of Hammond Song The Roches hit and hold a high, odd and transfixing note. You can hear it for the first time on the Ooooo after the first section, soon after Maggie's introduces her voice. That same note, or one close to it anyway, comes back again before the first guitar solo on "you're LYYYYYYing to me", then again on "don't be a FOOOOL."
When CS&N reach for a note like that I wonder just what the hell I'm doing with my life. When Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris finally threw off the concerns of their record companies in the mid-80's and came together as a bluegrass version of The Roches they hit some angelic notes, yes, but they never sounded weird. Such weirdness is a big part of Hammond Song's, and the band's, genius.
And capturing that weirdness, and that note, is still a goal for a new bands. Check out Meg Baird search for and then find it - and then keep it for an impossible, audacious length, at 3:15 mark of Heron Oblivion's seismic Your Hollows:
youtube
Next time I get an hour with Baird in a bar I'll ask her about Hammond Song as a basis for Your Hollows instead of quizzing her on Mike Heron. Poor Meg. I suppose she's been warned.
And now that you have Heron Oblivion in your ears, let's talk about Hammond Song's guitar solos. That's Robert Fripp, of King Crimson/Eno/Bowie/Talking Heads fame, making himself known. He walks a careful and skillful line in his production of the song and the record around it: you never forget he's there but he never gets in the way. This is the sisters' record and the sisters' song. But wow, what a guitar sound he achieves: it's nearly as weird as the vocals, part theremin, part Hendrix, all magic.
Finally, Hammond Song avoids easy cliche in its storytelling as well. Okay, their male authorities wanted them to put on sexy dresses and stop being weird, but the girls said no and became their awesome selves instead:
Lesser artists would have wrapped the story up with victory. But Maggie and her sisters know it's not that simple. When they released Hammond Song their story was far from over: the record could have tanked; it could have proved the record company right.
And so The Roches bring us into the debate; they let us decide whether their defiance in life and in the song are justified. "Tell me," they appeal to us in the song's conclusion, "I'm okay."
youtube
Dear Suzzy, Terre and Maggie,
You are not okay. You are the best.
Sincerely,
The Nickel Bin

Do you have an absolute favorite storyboard or concept art from either Sing movies?
I'm so sorry for the delay in response to this!! I love a ton of the concept art actually, so idk if I would be about to pick just one favourite piece, but I do have a favourite storyboard actually!
Here it is:
I absolutely love this one for numerous reasons:
One: Marcus. I adore his and Johnny's relationship and how it's shown here. I also love the aspects of his personality that we gets to see in this (him being punctual, polite, and overall really nice).
Two: Nooshy's essentially getting immediately adopted and becoming part of the family. Hugs = adoption in Sing and no one can change my mind so that was absolutely adorable.
Three: The fact that the gang got turned into Robin Hood in my eyes. Like, they stole from the rich... and are now giving to the poor... they're Robin Hood.
Four: REALISM. This version of them prepping for the show was a ton more realistic, especially after such a rough and public firing. It also reminded me of them setting up the show if Sing 1 which was nice.
Five: RYAN MY BOY! It was already heavily implied that Ryan and the other dancers snuck out to help with the show (hence Klaus not arriving with them and being surprised), but now him also swiping the staffs too?? Perfection. That boy just went “oh well, probably gonna get fired anyway, might as well help Johnny” and I love that for him and it shows so much of his personality. He is so sweet.
Six: More slang. As someone who also uses a ton of British slang in day to day life and calls my friends "love", hearing Marcus use more slang was adorable and super cool. It also means that Johnny probably talks with more slang than we see him do, at least with his family.
I might make a post talking about my favourite concept art if people are interested. I hope you enjoyed this tho! - <3 Gooseless

COMMENT ?

Cote de Pablo should be on the list for her NCIS character being Israeli (Ziva David).
Thank you! I can't find information that Holland Roden is a zionist according to that link and I missed Nick Wechsler's stories, right now there's only posts from Matt Bernstein dissing Elon Musk's transphobia but again thank you so much for the links the masterlist has been updated.

Put away a bit more laundry today, including the sweaters in a doesn’t-fit-under-the-bed bin. Those bins really suck, considering that I need to put my bed frame on risers for them to fit.
Had to take a break, after bending over for so long. I read “Meet Kit” from the American Girl book series - one of the books I bought from the library last year. It was like 64 pages, so it went by quick.
After recovering, I dug out Oriole (Tonner “Model Behavior” Olivia Chase) and redressed her and some other dolls. I can’t remember the last time I redressed dolls. Maybe a year ago? Last August? Idk. Had good and bad feelings about it. Definitely re-sparked my interest in 1-6 scale knits.
Complaints about Oriole below the cut:
I hate that her head has the “hook” side of hook-and-loop tape (aka velcro). Wigged dolls are so good for redressing, because you don’t have to worry about their hair as you change ‘em. But the velcro dot keeps snagging on fabric, defeating the purpose.
Guess I’ll have to get those little silicone dots or a silicone wig cap. Gotta remove the bits attached to the head, at the very least.
The purple Create-a-Monster wig (with peg snipped) fits her nicely, even with the velcro dots. This doll is shaped more realistically, so her head seems tiny and her body seems masculine (muscle-y?). She lacks the grace that the Antoinette and Chic bodies had. Even the Deja Vu body, as awkward as it can be to hold poses, is more favorable to me. I think it’s the arms/hands and width of the shoulders that I throw me off.
There’s also a rubbery “underwear”-shaped sleeve over her hips. I don’t remember what others have remarked about it, other than it being odd. There was worry of staining, I think. I’m debating whether or not to cut it off, and how badly I want to destroy it in the process.
The manufacturer wrote on the back of the doll with a marker, which is weird. Back of the head and back of the neck. It doesn’t seem like an artist’s signature. Has this happened with other examples of the newer Tonners? If so, then the Ryan Roche dolls would have the same marks. (I know I saw someone on tumblr with a Ryan Roche doll, but the skintone might be too dark to notice the marker.)
This is literally the 2nd time I’ve taken her out of the box, since I got her last year. It’ll take some time for her to grow on me. I already have strong preferences/opinions on what I like about doll aesthetics and sculpting.
Taking the hyper-empathy interpretation, we’re probably not meshing well, because she’s mad at me for leaving her in the box for so long. That or because I keep giggling at her tiny head. The vibe felt better towards the end of my dressing session with her today. So that gives me hope that we’ll “get along” better later.

Part 2 picks up with a recap of Part 1. Then we are back in the streets of Marie-Mere, with Micki finally finding Ryan, who seems dazed. He said he tried to get the book but was knocked out. Micki is worried, since it has been over an hour. He insists he is fine. She says they should check on Jack. Ryan wants to see Adele, but Micki says they will after seeing Jack.
Asteroth goes to a cemetery crypt. He breaks in the stone door via magic. Inside, it is a huge space. He breaks open more crypts, exposing skeletons. He tells Lucifer the place of his return awaits and laughs.
At the church. Christine and her father sit and pray. She's worried, asks him to pray for her.
Micki has been going through Jack's papers about the Book of Lucifer. She gets frustrated by Ryan just staring out the window. He says it is a waste of time, he needs to see Sister Adele. Micki says no one can see her. Ryan acts weird and then leaves.
Later, Ryan is outside the church as Asteroth reads the next prophecy. Ryan heads forward. He gets inside, upsetting the other nuns with his insistence on seeing Adele. She says it is okay, he's a friend. Ryan says he has to speak to her in private. Uneasily, Adele takes him to her room. Ryan tells her he met Asteroth. Adele knows Ryan is under Asteroth's hold and tries talking to him, then grabs her crucifix and begins praying. Decroux and the other nuns try getting into the room as the possessed Ryan attacks Adele. Asteroth speaks and laughs through Ryan, opens the door and tells Decroux that Adele is dying for her faith. Then he runs off. Decroux and the nuns find Adele and pray to God.
In an alley, Ryan is lamenting what he just did under Asteroth's control and finds the 666 on his chest. He screams.
At the hotel, Micki calls Johnny who's at Curious Goods, worried about Ryan's odd behavior. Ryan's mother shows up at the store. Johnny tries to calm Micki, who asks him to come to France. He agrees, then tells Mrs. Dallion it will be okay.
Cops bang on Micki's hotel room door, then barge inside, looking for Ryan. They take Micki with them.
Johnny talks to Ryan's mom, who is worried about him, thinking he must hate her. Johnny says Ryan loves her, and everyone deserves a second chance. She says she can't lose another son.
Ryan slips into the hospital and goes to see Jack. He begs his friend to wake up, telling he killed Adele and doesn't know why. He begins to cry, thinking his life is over now. Jack lays unconscious, Ryan asks why he couldn't help him this time. And tells Jack he needs him as he continues to sob.
Asteroth is chanting his evil prayers over a skeleton, and Ryan is again possessed, leaping out the hospital window as nurses rush in. He runs off into the night.
Next day, Micki is still being interrogated by the police. They don't believe her claims of strange events and she doesn't believe their claim that Ryan killed Adele. They won't let her leave or make a phone call.
Asteroth continue his work in the crypt, with Ryan at his mercy. He makes an upside cross on Ryan's forehead and says a child of God will be Lucifer's vessel.
That night, at a candlelight prayer vigil, Adele's body is carried through the streets. Johnny arrives via taxi and goes to the hotel, where he finds out Micki was arrested.
Ryan watches the prayer from the streets.
Johnny demands they let Micki go if they aren't charging her, and is shocked with the allegations against Ryan. He tells the detective they are leaving to look for Ryan, and they head out.
Ryan spots Christine and her father in the prayer group, and takes the girl, her father rushing after him.
Decroux begins a prayer over the body of Adele for all of those present. He tells them Satanic powers are at work to destroy their faith.
Ryan rushes with a protesting Christine as Micki and Johnny search frantically. Christine's father tries to stop Ryan, but Asteroth possesses Ryan, who tosses the man to the pavement.
Decroux continues to pray, saying Adele was killed because she was a symbol of good. He tells them they should have faith and pray. As they do, Jack has memories of what happened, what Adele had told him about her faith, and finally awakens, saying "The child."
Ryan brings Christine to Asteroth in the cemetery crypt.
Micki and Johnny still search, then go to see Jack, who is gone from the hospital.
Asteroth continues to read from his book, as Christine prays on her own. Asteroth tells her Lucifer is the true ruler, but she is brave and keeps praying. Asteroth uses his magic to heal her legs for Lucifer's arrival.
Jack finds Christine's injured father, who tells him Ryan took Christine. Micki and Johnny come upon the men, thrilled to see Jack. Micki fills Jack in on what she read, and Jack realizes the place of the dead mentioned must be the cemetery. Before dying, her dad asks them to save Christine.
Asteroth continues his plan to bring Lucifer to Earth. Asteroth has Ryan pull Christine to her feet, to show her what his faith in Lucifer has done for her. She can now stand on her own and walk. Christine listens to Asteroth, but refuses to praise Lucifer, so Asteroth makes her legs give out.
Decroux and the crowd continue to pray, as wind begins to blow.
Ryan is forced to hold Christine down as Asteroth works to use the Book to bring forth his master. He picks up a sharp skeleton bone, and says since she won't accept Lucifer, he will kill her and Lucifer will be resurrected in her body. He lifts the bone over her.
Jack, Micki and Johnny race through the cemetery looking for Asteroth and Ryan.
Christine appeals to Ryan, trying to get through to him. He looks at her and is flooded with memories of his late brother. Just as Asteroth brings the bone down, Ryan screams and puts his body between it and Christine, Asteroth stabbing him in the back. Micki, Jack and Johnny arrive at the same moment. Ryan, out of Asteroth's control, asks Christine to pray for him before falling to the ground.
His body is wracked in pain and transforms into young Ryan. Asteroth says the prophecy has been fulfilled, thinking Ryan will be the vessel for Lucifer.
At the funeral vigil, wind blows and a bright light appears in the sky. All are in awe.
The light even reaches the crypt, worrying Asteroth, who is burned reaching for the Book after struggling with Johnny. Christine stands in the light. Jack rushes to her. Asteroth stumbles to avoid the light. Jack finds the unconscious boy on the ground and picks him up. Micki is confused. Asteroth again tries for the book but it bursts into flames, then he does as well. He thrashes about before turning into his demon form and exploding. Micki holds the boy, and Christine says they must get him to the shrine.
They get to the shrine, still bathed in the bright light. Ryan begins to thrash about. Decroux prays over him, hoping to rid him of the influence of Satan. Christine kneels and prays to the Blessed Mother, asking them to return Ryan to what is God's will. A visage of a woman appears, the light becomes blinding and Ryan screams.
The light dims and fades away, and the boy lies calm. Jack talks to Ryan, who asks who he is. Ryan remembers Jack as a friend of Uncle Lewis. Christine introduces herself, but Ryan doesn't recall her. She thanks him. Ryan asks where his mother is. Christine tells Decroux that the Blessed Mother wants her to stay, and the Shrine waters flow again. Ryan asks if Micki is okay. She tries to get him to remember her, but all he can recall is a cousin named Micki, with red hair. They hug.
Back in the airport in the US, they all arrive home. Ryan runs off, Jack says he didn't say anything to Mrs. Dallion because it would be hard to explain. She is there, waving at them. Ryan comes up to her, calling her mom, but at first she thinks he's looking for someone else. Then she recognizes the boy her son used to be. Ryan says she looks different. She is shocked and Jack tells her this is Ryan, as hard as it is to believe. Micki tells Ryan she recognizes him, but he looks a little different. He says she is still the prettiest mom in the world, and them embrace, as Jack, Micki and Johnny look on.

My thoughts:
As I said last week, this is written and directed by Tom McLoughlin, who was the man behind Friday the 13th: Part VI - Jason Lives!, one of my favorite in the film series. He did a great job in opening the third season, while finding a creative way to write out - but not kill off - Ryan. I commend and thank him for that.
I remember the first time I watched this episode. I had graduated high school around the same time as the season two finale. Was working nights now, and was harder for me to be there each late Saturday night. I recorded this and watched it a few days - maybe weeks? - after it had aired. Like I said, no pre-information. It was, to me, just the season three opener. Little did I know.
Ryan becoming possessed and killing Adele is so much. But, as it was with weekly shows, you assume they will somehow over come this. Ryan won't be sent to prison! Then he sacrifices himself for Christine, and you think this will either wound him and also redeem him or kill him. But he's back for season three, they won't kill him off.
Imagine my - and other fans - shock. Ryan is turned back in to a child… and stays that way! Yeah, he isn't killed off. But LeMay is gone? What does all this mean? I was stunned. Ryan and Micki were so big to me as a lonely, awkward teen. How could Ryan be gone from this group?
We had no answers this week. Just this ambiguous end. I remember after watching this, going to let my dog out and just standing, looking out at the bare trees and feeling the end of something. Like I said, I'd graduated and was working. I'd begun to miss episodes of the show and had to play catch up. It all just felt like an end had begun for something that had been so special and important to me. And I had no clue what the future held, for Ryan, for Micki and Jack, and in my life, for me. A weird, very personal, nexus point of life, I guess.
Johnny, as we know now, took over the younger male lead role. They play Johnny here a little different than before. Less harsh and horny, and more friendly and helpful. I don't mind Johnny, but Ryan was irreplaceable.
The religious motifs here are huge, and it makes sense. The show always focused on the demonic and Satanic, so it was interesting to see the flipside of that. But, I have to wonder if this big season opener, with God, and prayer, and nuns and Lucifer combined with airing in more prime time slots, opened the door for more tight ass religious zealots to see and condemn the show. Is it a coincidence that this ended up being the final season?
All in all, a great big movie of a season opener, with the show's status quo truly shaken up. Glad Ryan was left alive, for a possible return. Never happened, unfortunately. Only in my fanfic. Maybe I'll share that one day, if anyone would care to read it.
Good-bye, Ryan.

The Commissioner Connundrum of Not Wanting to have people draw what they know cuz you want to be unique or whatever.
I've gone to Comic Con's more than on my budget really should and I know most of those talent over there know who Gwenpool is. So instead of commissioning her, I ask for my No. 1!
Here are all the current commissions I got from Comic Artists of my actual Favorite Character, 9S from NieR: Automata!
Both of these were from Nick Roche! (Transformers: The Wreckers Saga) My first big name commissions and also my favorites. Have them on my wall. Both NieR and comics like MTMTE and The Wreckers Saga inspired me to wanna be more creative so having art by an artist who worked on em that crosses over those 2 things is an amazing feeling.
After that, I also got pieces from other talents of the same circle. Both Josh Burham and Andrew Lee Griffith. Both great artists on Transformers comics!
And to tie it up, some art from Dan Mora (DC's World's Finest) and Ryan Ottley (Image, Invincible, Spider-Man). Some big namers in the industry as a whole and some of my favorites in the medium.
I love commissioning this lil goober. He's my favorite of all time (I hate him)! The way comic people draw him is always so different and I love that. I hope I can comm some more people in the future and be known as "The 9S/Nier Guy" to them.
