♆ @familylightfox asked: "And here I was gonna offer you a plate o' our traditional feast and some wine." Volt smiled, said items in hand. "If you want a sacrifice… I'll have t' have Harmony hunt down a caribou." ♆
Rya looked from the items to the hybrid and then hummed in thought. She didn't need food but she certainly enjoyed eating it, no matter what form or state it came in. And she did like everything the hybrid had fed her so far.
"I'll take all three." Easy as that, at least in her mind, as she held out a hand for the plate and glass. "And I would like to watch this hunt. I miss the days of good entertainment. What would you like in return?"
She was a stickler for old traditions.

@tentaplenty asked:
"What is this 'cider'? And why do your friends seem determined to force it down my throat?" That wasn't exactly the case but Rya still wasn't the best with words at times, but she clearly wanted an answer with the way she looked at Volt.
As much as Volt found some amusement in the way the regulars would try to introduce travels to try some of the local items, he wished they weren't so adamant about it. Maybe a small discussion was going to need to be made one night while they were all enjoying some downtime in the longhouse.
For now, the hybrid only offered his friend an apologetic smile while refilling her wine glass with one of his vintage blend.
"'S one o' our local drinks. Most can be pretty hefty in the alcohol department, but I make a non alcoholic one for Harmony if you wanna give it a try sometime." It wasn't forcing the issue, just an offer as he went back to leaning against the counter.
"We make ours with apples, oranges, cloves, cinnamon, allspice, and a bit o' brown sugar."

Now, there was something that Volt could agree with. Humans and their evolved counterparts: Overlanders, had a habit of thinking they deserved anything they damn well pleased. More often than not, they had a holier than thou mentality that grated on the hybrid's nerves, but he was usually good at keeping that to himself.
He knew not all of them were like that, and by the sound of it, Rya's late husband seemed to be in the good category.
Although he was brought out of some of his thoughts at the tongue sliding along his metal limb. There was a sensation he never would have expected. Quills raised ever so slightly before he shook off the shiver it caused down his spine. At least he managed a smile as he met her gaze.
"What have we learned?" A gentle tease. The very same one he used to give Harmony when she was younger and learning to explore the world. Except this involved his limb and not an unfortunate flower being eaten.
"Meletios." Volt repeated the name and smiled. "I think if he had been from this Zone, he would have been from Soleanna, but that's Greek... Right?" Sometimes, it was a little hard to place countries that had long since been forgotten.
"But no, he wasn't the reason I passed out on his porch. Runnin' for three days straight with no sleep or food did it."
Rya only blinked as he explained his age. Taking it at face value as she often did it made sense to her. Age was no major concept for her anyway, and she didn't know how Mobians worked in that respect. Did they live for eternity like monsters and Gods? Or they were weak and feeble like humans? Somewhere in the middle, perhaps? Or was it too early in their history to say?
So many questions, and too little answers. But at least the mystery of her friend's arm was solved and she would take that much.
"It is funny what humans think they are entitled to. And they are terrible at aiming when the time calls for it," she actually gave a chuckle, truly amused. They would never cease to amuse her, and it reminded her of the days when they were so easily terrorized despite thinking they were the top of the food chain. The Gorgon still liked to scare them on their machines and the like, but she was more careful about being seen given the turn their species had taken. She was only semi-immortal after all.
Gladly taking the chance to explore the arm, her blackened fingers seemed eager to pass over every inch of the limb. Avoiding the joints as instructed, but not leaving much else untouched. Even the hybrid's shoulder was explored before the limb itself was curiously sniffed. Granted, the lick after may have been a step too far but the face the Gorgon made after was a sure sign she wouldn't be doing it again.
Metal tasted revolting.
She soon had her fill and switched to listening as Volt recounted stories of his partner and their life.
"I am sure I would have. I like nearly all foods." Not a surprise she was sure, given why they were in the kitchen in the first place and all. But Volt had shared with her and she would do that same. "Mine was Meletios, and his name was fitting. Very meditative, always lost in his own mind. He too could cook, and loved doing so. Admittedly, the way we met was not so unlike you and Duster, though I doubt he was the cause of your collapse in anyway."
The same couldn't be said for her and her partner.

Marine products
Safety Standards for ships and all watercraft date back for centuries and have mainly been associated with Naval Authorities but since the advent of commercial craft, and then, latterly recreational craft, Safety Standards have become the domain of specialized civilian National bodies. To bring it up to the recent past, the formation of the European Community started a complete harmonization of the National safety standards of the Member States covering most consumer products and this is where we can pick up the origins of our current Standards for RIBs and Inflatable Boats.
The European Union issued a Directive 94/25/EC, called the RCD (Recreational Craft Directive), stating that all craft distributed for sale in the EU must be compliant its essential requirements of the RCD. The ISO 6185 Standard is the voluntary tool that is used by RIB builders, RIB importers and RIB surveyors to ensure that the requirements of the RCD are met. It controls the safety aspects of the design and testing of RIBs and inflatables up to 24m. This is not about how operators use or maintain the craft, neither is it about manufacturer's production quality assurance system. It is focused on protecting the consumer from buying a poorly conceived or constructed craft or a craft made from sub standard materials.
The enforcement of the RCD in Europe varies from State to State but is usually monitored by each member's appropriate Organization such as National Marine Authorities, Trade Associations, and Standards Institutes. In the UK, it's the Dept of Trade and Industry through their networks of public works offices. In some cases, even manufacturers, distributors and consumers themselves have been quick to point out potential non compliance as every craft available for sale in the EC must show that it complies with the Directive by showing a recognized Builders plate for everyone to see and verify. Usually, a Boat show or other public displays are good venues to check craft. However, I will not dwell too deeply on the machinations of the why's and how's but suffice to say that every member state of the EU has adopted and should enforce the RCD.
I have been the Convener of the Working Group of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which has been maintaining the ISO 6185 series of safety standards for inflatable boats and RIBs since 1988. Members of the WG (called Experts) are normally nominated by the appropriate Authorities of the Member States. The UK, for example, is represented by Experts from the RYA and the BMF. In the "old days" Experts were a mix of individuals from Standards Organizations such as the BSI and DIN as well as actual Boat manufacturers but in recent years, the Experts are marine professionals practiced in Standardization.
There are 4 Parts to the current Standard; each Part covering a certain size of boat and motor rating from 2.5m up to 24m.
We have only recently been finishing the work on the relatively new Part 4 which concerns RIBs from 8m to 24m. This then led to revising Part 3 which covers RIBs up to 8m. These 2 Parts concern the vast majority of RIBs in use today.
Each Part is scheduled for review every 5 years to determine if a full revision is required or not. As RIBs have become bigger and more complicated; some having covered decks and cabins, the task of determining safe levels of buoyancy and stability become more complicated. In fact, this evolution of RIB design has helped change the profile of the Experts in the Working Group. We are lucky to have been able to call upon the expertise of other ISO Working Group Experts who are tasked with Standards for all types of boats up to 24m.
Safety is the single concern for the Experts of the Working Group and governs every decision. A very valuable source of safety information concerning safety incidents at sea is the UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch. They have an open and thorough reporting system and any incident concerning a RIB gets discussion in the Working Group. There are an increasing amount of accidents concerning RIBs and some of this can be attributed to their increasing numbers. There are also more commercial "Adventure rides" in RIBs which increase exposure to accidents involving fare paying passengers getting injured. This could surely lead to more stringent controls of design and construction by other Authorities such as the MCA...
I have to say that when I looked at the MAIB 2009/1 Safety Digest covering Small Craft, RIBs were prominent in the "lessons learned" case studies. Whilst some of these incidents were attributable to human error, some of the problems were compounded by design and installation failures. The Working group therefore tries to bring in sensible corrections in the safety Standard where possible.
I have spent over 45 years driving small craft, mainly inflatables and RIBs and I, like you maybe, think that the fact we have large inflatable buoyancy tubes around the hull gives us a large safety and performance margin over our "non inflatable" cousins of similar length. One of the fears that I have in the evolution of Standards is that this margin will be lost in the tendency to harmonize standards for all small powered craft. There are some who think that ISO 6185 should just concern just the inflatable parts of the craft! They fail to realize the sum of a well designed and constructed hull and tube working in harmony is far more efficient than the characteristics of the individual parts.
The process of getting an ISO Standard created, drafted, agreed, finished, voted and published is sometimes quite long and arduous. The Working group has to be tasked by the appropriate ISO Technical Committee, in our case it is TC 188. Small Craft. Resources are scarce, especially these days, so new work items are only taken on when necessary. There is a TC 188 Plenary meeting every year which reviews the Work of the 27 active Working Groups, discusses future projects, reports on liaisons with other ISO Technical Committees and generally updates all the plenary participants.
There are predefined Marine products formats and structures for all International Standards that the Working Groups must follow. Experts collect and decide on the relevant technical data and then make decisions about what will be a Requirement in the Standard and the appropriate test method or calculation to ensure that the Requirement is met. In our case, we always try to keep in mind the resources available to typical RIB manufacturers who must perform the test or the calculation to satisfy themselves or the Examining Surveyor that the requirement has been met.
Once the Working Group has finished a first Draft of the Standard, which may have already taken a year to achieve, they submit it to the Technical Committee as an ISO DIS, which means it's a Draft International Standard protected by Copyright laws. The DIS then goes to the 32 EU Members for review and a vote. 19 Members have vote status, the others are Observers. If there is a majority vote to pass the DIS, it is then returned to the Working Group to deal with any corrections or comments that may have arisen during this process. The DIS then becomes an FDIS which means it's a Final Draft International Standard and submitted again to the Members for Voting. If it passes again, then it is returned to the Working Group for any final corrections and then its on its way as a full ISO Standard. If the Draft fails to pass at any time, it is sent back to the Working Group to address the reasons why it was rejected. The publication of the Standard is organized by CEN which is the European Committee for Standardisation and it is then made available to the public for a fee.

The Vixen and the Reptile
@kingofdesert
Rainbase.
It was a pretty large city in the desert kingdom of Alabasta and the Shichibukai was throwing some sort of party for the nobles and people who could afford to look shiny and expensive. Thankfully Rya had just the sort of dress and outfit that seemed snobbish enough but fluid for action if she needed to vacate the party.
Her reddish ponytail was pulled back into a bun, and small braids feed into it to give it a simple, yet elegant look. Jewelry likely stolen from a lesser noble on another island, the amethyst hue bringing the harmony of the hazel of her eyes into a greener stage. Her form fitting purple dress hugged her curves in a daring way, but made her dazzling among the other nobles as she made her way into the casino Rain Dinners; a soft smile here and there, her eyes watched prospective marks and making sure that her ‘escort’ the gunsmith she had in her crew was nearby. Granted, she wanted to come to this thing by herself but he HAD talked her into allowing him to at least watch her back. Her fingers curled around a champagne flute as she glanced around calmly, keeping her eyes open for the host.

Tempus Sun release new single and video ahead of debut EP
youtube
Newcomers and last year’s Melbourne Music Bank winners, Tempus Sun have today announced their captivating folk pop single Gold alongside a fittingly heartwarming video directed by Andrew Kose and Edwin Tedjokusumo (Eskimo Joe). Gold follows the group’s first offering Owls, and precedes their self-titled debut EP that is set to drop August 25. To celebrate, Tempus Sun will be hitting the road to play a show in Brisbane and Sydney, along with a show at The Evelyn Hotel on September 1.
Gold is a seriously accurate name for this poignant track. Following an expressive piano intro that showcases Rya Park’s exquisite vocal, Gold swoops into gear, evocative of influences such as Mumford & Sons and Kita Alexander. Euphoric and vibrant, percussive elements drive the folky arrangement and precise vocal harmonies propel the choruses into the atmosphere. Tempus Sun’s keyboardist Grant Hardisty couldn’t be happier with the single, beaming, “The track is about exactly what the title suggests, moments of euphoria and bliss that just want to be relived again and again. It’s remembering those unparalleled happy moments with that golden tinge of nostalgia that can make you forget all your worries and stresses in a hazy daydream. It’s those summer nights that last with a sense of timelessness, a reflection upon a memory that you’d give anything to revisit, those times with friends that extend from a couple of hours to an entire day. It’s also about love with a slightly bitter twist, but it’s equally about light, warmth and all things Gold.”
The accompanying clip for Gold encapsulates the nostalgic vibe of the track through a retro lens; as though shot through an Instagram filter, the clip showcases some seriously cute candid moments between lovers, friends and families alike. The sun is ever-present, happiness glows off the screen and in a world that’s often so hard to handle, the clip for Gold is a welcome reminder that there is still honest goodness to be found. Grant reflects on the concept behind the clip, “Our overarching inspiration was pure joy and we wanted to capture a time we could escape to, and I think Gold can evoke those individual memories of times we all hold dear, be it of a lost loved one, an old flame or simply a time with your friends. The film clip was absolutely about capturing raw and natural emotion, simple times in life that you wish could be bottled. As Missy Higgins perfectly puts it, ‘seems those ordinary days are the ones that last’ - and so we wanted to try to almost film people not acting, but simply living.”
The upcoming EP is full to bursting with standout songwriting, thoughtful, lush arrangements and stunning vocal harmonies. Produced by Tom Larkin (Bodyjar, The Getaway Plan), Tempus Sun have managed to evoke their many influences – which include genres as far-reaching as classical, metal, and jazz-fusion – and funnel them into a concise, considered collection of folk-rock songs, many of which will remind the listener of early Boy & Bear and Mumford and Sons. Thrilled with the result, Grant explains, “It was such a massive learning experience for us, going through the process of pre-production, production and post-production. Recording at Studios in the City, we spent 6 solid days straight, building the layers from the ground up until they resembled – and then surpassed – our imaginings. It’s a very hard thing putting your trust in another’s hands, especially when they are dealing with your baby. In handing ourselves over to the professionals, it was hard to measure to what extend we should stick to our guns in some cases or take on their suggestions, but everyone made this process so welcoming.”
Well-deserved winners of 2016’s Melbourne Music Bank competition, Tempus Sun have gratefully reaped the rewards which have enabled them to propel their careers forward like they never could have imagined. Out of hundreds of entries and thousands of public votes, the group took out the top prize which included the EP recording and mixing process, press photos, publicity, radio plugging and much more. Grant enthuses, “Winning Bank of Melbourne’s Melbourne Music Bank was the most exhilarating experience of my life. We entered it on a whim, with an optimistic ‘why not?’ attitude, but we never honestly considered that we’d be a shot. I remember the call so vividly… I had to leave class to answer and hear the ridiculous news that we had made the Top 12!”
Set to wow audiences with their impressive live show all the way up the east coast, tickets to the Tempus Sun tour are available now.
Tempus Sun is Andrew Wortes, Rya Park, Grant Hardisty, Ed Borromeo, Sean Close and Liam Purser.

@tentaplenty asked:
"I want to meet the beast cat." Not so much a request as it was a demand. She was still working on that part of being civil.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
While it was true and Rya's request could have been a bit more gentle, neither hybrid was going to fault her and Volt looked to his daughter with a nod of his head. They weren't sure how their friend would handle being away from the ocean for so long, so it only seemed fair to bring the 'beast cat' to her.
Thankfully he was well trained to never wander far from either of his family, but the moment he hopped through the open Warp Ring, there was a curiousness to the golden eyes.
A flick of his fluffy tail before it was held high in the air and he was back to looking around.
"Mrrrrrrrrooooooowwwwwwwwwwllll." The sand felt so different under his paws but he soon found himself looking up at the larger woman as he explored. Not an ounce of fear to be found, the feline trotted right over and rubbed himself against what he would assume was a leg while Volt and Harmony looked on.
"If ya want t' pick him up, just make sure ya support his back legs or he might accidentally claw ya tryin' t' keep his grip."

@tentaplenty asked:
"Why does the red wolf look at you funny?" The question was asked of Harmony, and bluntly. Rya wasn't known for her tact. In fact, she hardly had any.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"Huh?" The teen's head turned to look towards Rya with a slight tilt to her head. No one had ever mentioned anything, but it had Harmony turning over to the direction of her teammates. Namely to the red wolf in question since he had suddenly turned his head to the side as if that would hide the pink to his muzzle.
It didn't help matters that both Tangle and Whisper were snickering beside him.
"Whatcha mean look at me funny? Do I got somethin' in my teeth?" One claw was used to try to pick between the razor sharp pearly whites.
"I-it's nothing Harmony... Honest." The poor boy stammered and was doing his best to try to come up with something to say that would ease his embarrassment. "I.. I just... it-it's nothing. promise..."
While the teens were occupied, Volt might have leaned over just a bit with a small smile on his muzzle.
"Did you have to do that to the poor kid... He's been crushin' on her for a few months now."

@tentaplenty asked:
"Why do you two have wings? You didn't mention these before." Per usual the Gorgon seemed to forget personal space was a thing and reached out to touch the white feathers Volt was sporting, before switching her attention to Harmony's horns.
"Are you amongst the monsters now"
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Thankfully neither Harmony nor her father were bothered too much by the invasion of space. If anything, the teen seemed excited as the fingers prodded against her upper set of horns. It took the attention away from Volt, who shifted his shoulders to get the ruffled feathers back under control and tried to hide the soft dusting of pink across his muzzle.
"'S only fer the month Ms. Rya. We got put under a magic spell." She happily bounced on her toes, turning around, and opening her wings for their friend to get a full view of the changes. "Don't we look cool though? 'S so much fun t' be able t' fly and I've been chasin' away all those urban explorers."
"The village is a bit o' a local legend so every so often we get those urban explorers that try t' record their whole adventure." Volt elaborated with a wave of a hand. "I think the one she spooked the other night ended up goin' viral."
Volt smirked as his daughter gave a giggle. "So t' what do we owe the pleasure? Comin' t' see how our home celebrates Samhain?" His smile shifted to a grin. "Or are ya here for her birthday on the same day?"
