Russian Plane's Engine Catches Fire During Takeoff With Over 300 People Onboard
A "loud blast" was reportedly heard during the take-off. As the aircraft aborted the departure, the landing gear caught fire and burst into flames.

The engine and tyres of Russia's Azur Air flight, which was headed from Phuket to Moscow, burst into flames at the time of takeoff on February 4 at Phuket International Airport. The takeoff was aborted as soon as the fire was noticed and authorities at Phuket airport informed. The Boeing 767-300ER plane was carrying over 300 passengers and 12 crew members when the incident took place, according to UK's Metro. Nobody was injured in the mishap.
Everyone on board was advised to wait for a new flight once the plane was evacuated.
As per the outlet, a "loud blast" was reportedly heard during the take-off. As the aircraft aborted the departure, the landing gear also caught fire and burst into flames on the same right side of the aircraft.
Videos emerging on social media show the plane's wing on the right side smoking while it drives across the airport's tarmac.
According to the outlet, the Russian airlines said in a statement, "Airline technical specialists have already started work to eliminate the malfunctions." They added that the passengers will be flown on February 5 and in the meantime the airline would provide them accommodation. "Passengers of flight ZF-3604 will be provided with a hotel, hot meals and soft drinks while waiting for departure to Moscow," they added.
Metro said that the aircraft has been with Azur Air since 2015 and is 26 years old.
As per local news outlets, the incident took place at 4:30 pm local time and the runway was closed for 40 minutes. This caused around 47 flight delays and several flights were diverted to Krabi airport, Samui airport and Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok.
It was stated that "the Russian pilot quickly activated the fire suppression system, cutting the fuel supply to the engine." However, the sudden braking heated up the brakes and sent smoke rising from the wheels, which led to several tyres blowing out. They added that the firefighters arrived on the scene immediately.
The incident is of the engine explosion on the Russian aircraft is currently under investigation.

Ukraine just put two key Russian military aircraft out of commission. It will now be more difficult for Russia to direct operations against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Air Force shot down a Russian A-50M/U intelligence gathering plane – somewhat similar to US Air Force E-3 Sentry (AWACS) aircraft. And it severely damaged an Il-22M11 command and control aircraft which was able to land but is beyond repair.
It’s official. Russian and Ukrainian sources have confirmed that Ukrainian air-defenses on Sunday hit, over southern Ukraine and the Sea of Azov, two of Russia’s rarest and most valuable support planes: a Beriev A-50 radar early-warning plane and an Ilyushin Il-22 airborne command post. “Who did this?” the Ukrainian air force quipped. The answer, it seems, is the air arm’s 90-mile-range Patriot PAC-2 air-defense missiles. The jet-propelled A-50—one of nine A-50M/Us in service—fell into the Sea of Azov in flames, likely killing everyone on board: potentially 15 people including high-ranking officers and highly-trained radar specialists. The propeller-driven Il-22, with up to 10 people aboard, managed to land in Anapa on the Russian side of the Sea of Azov’s southern coast. “Urgently requesting ambulance and fire crew,” the crew radioed as they wrestled their shrapnel-holed plane toward the air base. Photos of the damaged Il-22, snapped after it landed, illustrate the extent of the damage—a mangled tail fin and fuselage—and also reveal the plane’s exact variant. It’s an Il-22M11, and it might be a total write-off. This version of the 1950s-vintage Ilyushin turboprop is rare. The Russian air force has maybe 12 Il-22Ms after mutinous Wagner Group mercenaries shot down one of the planes over western Russia back in June. While the Russians could modify an old Ilyushin airframe into a replacement Il-22M, they probably can’t do so quickly—or cheaply. An A-50 or Il-22M might cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
Russia had only about ten of the A-50 planes. One was blown up by Belarusian partisans 11 months ago south of Minsk. And now one is sleeping with the fishes in the Sea of Azov.
Here are pictures of the Il-22M11 which was able to make an emergency landing at Anapa in Russia.

Just to rub it in to Putin, here's a graphic from Ukraine's military announcing its hits on the two Russian planes.

ЗНИЩЕНО = destroyed Повітряні Сили = Air Force
The two planes together would cost Russia over half a billion dollars to replace. 😁😎

[ 📹📸 A Russian military transport plane, was in the process of flying 65 Ukrainian POWs to a location in the Bolgorod oblast to facilitate a prisoner exchange when it was shot out of the sky by Ukrainian missile, killing everyone on board.]

UKRAINIAN MISSILE SHOOTS DOWN RUSSIAN MILITARY TRANSPORT PLANE FILLED WITH ITS OWN POWs
74 are dead, including 65 Ukrainian POWs, after a Russian military transport plane being used to facilitate a prisoner exchange scheduled for Wednesday was downed somewhere over the Bolgorod region of the Russian Federation, near the border with Ukraine. The prisoner exchange has since been called off by Russian authorities.
In an article published by Ukrainian Pravda, a Ukrainian news periodical, a source is cited as saying that the aircraft was downed by Ukrainian forces near the border with Russia's Bolgorod region, however they have since retracted the source, and are now claiming they cannot confirm the news. The Russian authorities have since confirmed that the plane was in fact downed by a Ukrainian missile, likely using either an American Patriot air defense missile or a German-made Iris-T.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian authorities say that the crash took place at approximately 11:15am (local time), when a Russian Il-76 military transport plane filled with Ukrainian POWs was downed near the Bolgorod region.
“At about 11:00 Moscow time, an Il-76 plane crashed during a scheduled flight in the Belgorod region. On board there were 65 captured Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen, <including> six crew members and three accompanying persons,” the statement says.
In its statement, the Russian Defense Ministry slammed the missile strike, declaring the "Kiev regime committed a terrorist act" in downing the military transport.
According to Russian sources, the aircraft had been en route from the Chkalovsky military airbase in Moscow, and was shot down by air defenses stationed somewhere in the Kharkov oblast in the northeast of Ukraine, killing everyone on board.
The Russian and Ukrainian authorities had agreed to conduct a prisoner exchange later on Wednesday, with the exchange set to take place near the Russian village of Kolotilovka, also in the Bolgorod oblast, close to the border with Ukraine.
A second military transport aircraft carrying some 80 Ukrainian POWs was turned around before reaching the danger area, and was successfully diverted to another airbase after news of the downing reached Russian authorities.
The Ukrainian officials have so far refused to comment on the crash, remaining mum as news of the event spreads, although Andrey Yusov, a spokesperson for the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) confirmed a prisoner exchange had been scheduled for Wednesday, adding that the exchange has since been cancelled.

"Recent images of the sole An-225 Mriya show the aircraft being dismantled, reportedly for storage and eventual repair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The deputy CEO of Antonov, Maksym Sanotskyi, told the German media outlet Deutsche Welle in April 2023 that three of the An-225's six engines were repaired, and two went to the An-124 fleet as spares — something particularly helpful to Ukraine in the ongoing war effort."
Tumblr media
At the time, Antonov said there was 'about 30% of components that can be used for the second sample.'

CNN reported Antonov was trying to restore one of the wings, while the Times reported the company was in talks with aviation companies in Europe, the US, and Asia.
'The aircraft will be equipped with modernized engines,' Valerii Kostiuk, an Antonov designer, told CNN in April. 'New electronic on-board equipment will be installed on the plane. Well-known companies will be involved.'
