No labour budget has been approved for West Bengal for 2023-24 under MGNREGS, keeping workers in a state of constant worry about their survival. Many have not received their wages due from 2021. Some have joined ongoing protests in New Delhi that began in February 2023, demanding their dues and rights for guaranteed work. MGNREGS, introduced in 2005, has served as a lifeline for rural workers whose livelihood entirely depend on it. Those registered can demand up to 100 days’ work with an average income of Rs 213 daily. The lack of funds have resulted in a food crisis for many in the state.

ik I don't talk politics on this dumb fandom account but as someone living in a coal town this feels personal enough to try and make some noise over:
NIOSH maintains the Coal Workers’ Health Surveillance Program, which maintains a mobile screening service that helps miners catch black lung early. [...] This program has been entirely gutted by Kennedy’s recent actions.
“The expected cuts to NIOSH will inevitably lead to worse health and safety conditions for coal miners — and other workers — in more ways than we can count,” said Appalachian Voices Government Affairs Specialist Quenton King. “NIOSH oversees black lung research that helped miners and medical professionals alike understand the scale of the black lung epidemic that we’re still seeing today. Its mobile clinic went directly to mining communities to provide free, confidential screenings so miners can find out if they have black lung disease.”
"[...] Every coal miner in the country is going to be worse off if these cuts aren’t reversed.”
This was supposed to be the most pro-coal administration, mind you. Coal miners and their health are not wasteful spending. Disgusting. If you live in a coal town you should be getting on your rep's ass about this.

Yes, Cheeto Babyhands is trying to gut IMLS. He's had DOGE try to hollow it out yesterday (3/20/2025), and he's installed a puppet there as its head.

As per the Act, the workers should get work as demanded, said activist Nikhil Dey. “Rural workers registered under the scheme are mandated to get work under Article 21 of the Constitution. The Article recognises the right to work as a fundamental right, which is being violated daily. These workers have the right to seek work for 100 days and earn a dignified income,” said Dey. The law also enables these workers to seek unemployment allowance and compensation for delayed wages for each passing day without work. “The central government is not following the rules, which is creating a crisis across the state and the country,” he added.

Not necessarily relating to union organising, but, I wrote this article to contain my thoughts after some reading around the local news landscape of my home county.
Hope it proves useful to someone!

Can Republicans stop being fucking asshole losers for one goddam second. How do you see the massive destruction happening in your own country and go "Haha, this is what voting blue gets you!" as if our fucking taxes gave us a dry winter. I swear to God the entire state of California could die horrible deaths and these fucks would be online using us as "evidence" against the left wing and saying we deserved it.

As a canadian who used to work at Tims I am loving the Tims asks lol. I think Price would be classic old-person at tim’s and be there right at opening, order a single old-fashion plain donut, a larger black coffee, then spend the next 2 hours dipping the donut in the coffee and reading the newspaper.
Ahhhh, this is making me think about a meetcute in a local Tims now, which is not the cafe au anyone probably expected. Or wanted. Could you imagine trying to fall in love when someone is unironically ordering pinwheels with an xl 4 by 4 in the background? I'd cry, me.
The romance blooms between: "here's your coffee-" your manager who should legally never be allowed around the public stares daggars at your back. "-SIR. AND WOULD YOU LIKE A DONUT WITH THAT? YES, I'M AWARE YOU ALREADY ORDERED AND WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR ONE YOURSELF IF YOU WANTED IT BUT I HAVE TO ASK TO HIT MY UPSELL QUOTA OR THE FRANCHISE OWNER WILL DOCK MY HOURS AND DENY THE VACATION REQUEST I SO DESPERATELY NEED. YES, I WILL GO FUCK MYSELF. THANK YOU, HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!"
He's smitten, he is. He sees the dead eyes and the constant dread that seems to permeate from your pores as he sits in the corner that's now His, and thinks, "damn. That's the one for me."
