Back in the late 20th century, we arrived in New Orleans in the mid-morning. Settling in with our hosts, the husband asked if we were thirsty and if he could get us liquid refreshments. I said I'd like a Coke. I was served a Bacardi and Coke at ten-something AM. It's not just that in N'Orleans residents often start dring before noon, but they can't conceive of an adult ordering a Coke and not wanting rum in it. A decade later, in Nova Scotia, I learned that there are at least a dozen better rums to put in Coke than Bacardi.
