It all started with a reddit post.
No it didn’t. It started when I was 5 and my mom handed me fabric and thread and buttons to keep me busy while she sewed. It started with the Christmas and Easter dresses my grandmother turned out every year without fail. It started with holding tapestries my other grandmother wove. It started with listening to my great-grandmother talk about the quilts city women paid her to finish for them and the rugs she wove on her floor.
I’ve always said that I had textiles in the blood, as a genetic legacy. While only one of the women who came before me called herself an artist (my maternal grandmother) they all chose textiles as their medium.
I made my first quilt in middle school, I think. My grandmother spent decades as purely a garment seamstress, working in a suit store and altering prom dresses on the side, sewing for herself and her loved one. She loved clothes and her huge basement was packed with everything she had made herself. She found herself seeking a new challenge. She’d avoided quilting (possibly because her mother was a quilter and they had a complex relationship) but she decided to give it a go. Her first quilt was a pinwheel, pieced by machine and then hand quilted while she recovered from a knee surgery. She let me quilt a block. I decided I’d make a quilt too, pinwheels the same as her. I didn’t have a book, or a pattern, or the internet and she wasn’t there when I started. I cut my triangles mostly by eye, with scissors, on the living room floor. They were big, maybe 10 inches. I sewed them up and wonky is the kindest word I could give them now, but I felt like a genius. I didn’t know you were supposed to quilt it before binding so I bound it, and pinned the layers together. I even quilted some of the squares. And then I slept with it, pinned together for roughly a decade. It was never fully quilted. It wasn’t long enough to cover both my shoulders and feet, but it was the perfect weight for a summer quilt. I wish I knew what had happened to it.
My second quilt was a whole cloth quilt. I was in grad school. I had the internet, but I didn’t use it. I wanted something the same weight as the first quilt, but long enough to cover my feet. I bound it with satin blanket binding, and quilted a cross, one row up the length through the middle, and one row across the width. I did not read the directions on the batting about how far apart the quilting lines should be. It is now my son’s favorite blanket. It hasn’t fallen apart.
I did a lot more learning (but not enough) and a lot of growing before I tried quilting again. By this time I was a parent and I had learned the value of measuring and rotary cutting. Again I’d make a pinwheel quilt. I learned how to make half square triangles four at a time. My grandmother passed either shortly before or after I started it and I think of her when I work on it. It took me a long time to make the blocks, it took me even longer to put them together. I thread basted it on the floor. I knew enough not to bind before quilting, but I hadn’t yet learned to start in the center of quilt. I worked around the edges and learned even more. I learned that if I quilt too much my hands hurt, I learned that my spouse will sleep under a quilt left on the couch even if it isn’t finished or bound. I eventually learned I should have started in the middle. I started it in 2019, its 2024 and I’m still slowly quilting the blocks. I bound it eventually because the edges were showing a lot of wear (because my spouse has been sleeping under it). Someday it will be done, but it makes me laugh to know that it is serving its purpose regardless, and has been for years.
Another chapter in my quilting story. It was roughly 4am and I was sick. Hopped up on every medication known to humankind and scrolling through my phone. I stumbled across a video of someone stitching fabric wrapped around hexagons together by hand. Half a dozen videos later I was sitting at a computer printing out templates onto cardstock paper and digging through the remains of pandemic mask making fabric. I made a coaster, and then I made a pillow. Before I even made it past the fog of flu I started a hexagon quilt. I didn’t plan, but I kept a somewhat cohesive color story. 900+ hexagons later I had a finished quilt top, it took me about a year, and eventually I chose a backing and used my sewing machine to quilt it together, starting from the center working out, binding at the end. And that is the moment that I finally felt like a quilter.
Its been a while since that night scrolling. I’ve made more quilts, large and small. Not a lot, but enough. I spend a lot of my down time thinking about quilts. When I’m quilting I think about those who came before me, I think about my grandmother’s hands. I think about how intrinsic quilting is to the place I grew up, all the hands that came before my grandmother, and her mother, and the lineage going back through the largely unrecorded history of poor women in rural Appalachia.
Getting back to reddit. The other day I was scrolling through and was struck by this quilt posted on reddit by u/karenosmile.
Classic and yet it is also intrinsically modern.Chaotic and random, but also a repeated pattern of the same simple block. It brought to mind quilts I’d seen while looking through museum collections online (which is a delightful activity for slow afternoons). I went back through my links and the collections again, looking at other examples of quilts that feature that classic ageless block - the half square triangle, also known as the HST. I wanted to know what made that quilt on reddit feel so modern.
The oldest quilt I found in my brief review that felt like it had the same feel as the reddit quilt was this quilt from the 1840s. It is orderly, but combining different sizes of half square triangles. I would not see this as old fashioned if I saw this quilt posted online tomorrow.
The next quilt has been printed out and taped to my wall for months. It was made in 1898 by one Lura, for another Lura. Another lineage. This quilt only has one size of HST and they are orderly arranged to create strong diagonal lines of color across the quilt.
Coming to the 20th century we have another quilt* that uses half square triangles of different sizes, however this one uses blocks of HSTs arranged and combined with large white triangles to form yet another larger HST.
Ultimately I think the thing that sets the original reddit quilt apart is the scattered variety of block sizes and the seemingly random placement of the blocks. The varying size abandons the strict repetition of the museum pieces while maintaining the simple geometry of the block itself.

Whistle While You Work
Kix, drinking his 4th mug of caf and looking ready to drop at any second: Coric, definitely on more than 1 stim right now and also looking exhausted: Sponge, walking in with Beau to start their shift before noticing the two older medics: Kriff, what happened to you two? You look like hell... Kix, groaning while massaging his temples: Full house last night. Coric, getting up from his seat to stretch: There was an incident and the medbay's been absolutely full to the brim of injured vode... Sponge, raising an eyebrow: An incident? Kix: Lets just say Hardcase decided to try modding his Z-6 again... Sponge, glancing over to where said heavy gunner is laying on a cot with both his hands in casts looking all sorts of sorry for himself: ...Again? What did he do to it this time? Extra barrels? Clip capacity enhancements? Scope? Flamethrower? Coric: No clue, he wouldn't provide any explanation aside from 'I saw it on the holonet' and I honestly don't want to know. Kix: Point is, the captain's pissed off, the shooting range needs repairs, we need to requesition a new rotary blaster canon, and there's several vode with all sort of blast related injuries. Nothing that requires surgery, but severe enough that we've had no sleep for 26 hours... Sponge: I can see that. Isn't there anyone else on shift? The current rotation is three active medics. Coric: Hm? Yeah, that 105th fella is around. Kix, groaning: Yeah... Yeah he is. Sponge, finding Kix's disdain for another vod a little uncharacteristic: What's that tone for? He slacking or something? Kix: No... -shuddering- Worse... Bon, coming out of the supply cabinet looking like sunshine and rainbows despite the amount of work he's had to do in the past few hours: Time to check some horrific burns and change the dressings! Stars, I feel so alive right now I could sing~! -whistling happily and practically skipping towards the cots- Coric & Kix, looking like they've just seen the devil: Sponge, mildly disturbed by the usually skittish medic's very good disposition: Beau, blinking in confusion as she looks between her human, the two exhausted medics and the strangely chipper medic: Sponge: .... How long has he been on shift? Kix: 47 hours. Coric: 49 actually. Sponge, slightly afraid: That medic ain't human.

Ticketmaster
Back when I was a teen, the only way to buy tickets to concerts was by trying to get through to a Ticketmaster rep on the phone, or stand in long lines at a Ticketmaster outlet. Often, the front of any line would be stacked with middle-aged men (maybe they were in their 20s, but they looked old to teenage me) who were paid by scalpers to get as many of the best seats as possible. I hated waiting in lines. I hated dialing and re-dialing my family's ROTARY phone (soooooo slow!) in the hopes of getting through. But I almost always was able to purchase a ticket. Computers and technology should've made this process so much easier. And yet, here we are. What happened w/Taylor Swift's ticketing is shameful & needs to be fixed. The system is flawed. But no one took BTS fans' complaints seriously when they were stymied in attempts to purchase tickets. No one listened when it was pointed out that tickets were being resold for exorbitant scalper prices almost immediately.
In the 1990s, many reporters (including myself) covered Pearl Jam's fight against Ticketmaster & its exorbitant surcharges/monopoly on concerts.
This isn't brain surgery. Ticketmaster can figure out ways to create a fair system. But I suppose it benefits them financially not to.

Dialtown Theory about brains and hearts since I wanna complicate things?!?!?!? (I am no doctor so some things will be wrong, alright? Alright. Also beware spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes)
Obviously none of those characters have flesh heads, but like they must have brains (except for Stabby+Shooty /j) so I think that they have some AI System which is like sentient, they also must have a heart cuz yes. But not a real one, a mechanical one instead, reason being that an AI System wouldn't be able to regulate a real heart's heartbeat/heart rate (heart rate is important because the heart's function is important since the heart circulates oxygen and nutrient-rich blood throughout the body. When it's not working properly, just about everything is affected) therefore a mechanical heart is there instead of a real one since this helps to plump blood around the said body. BUT considering this is a game where heads are replaced with object heads, the said blood could be oil, oil can used instead of blood because oil can perhaps be more useful then blood and stops rust from forming since the said AI System and mechanical heart are made out of iron/metal (or some other unknown substance), this is important because if one's phone head gets rusty they can replace the rusty parts but if the "brain" starts to rust then they will die soon. That is because the rust will hinder the ai system's ability to work properly, the AI System wouldn't be able to correctly control the heart because it'll be too focused on trying to remove the rust from it's surface therefore the heart will be left unsupervised and eventually fuck up the heart rate which will cause the death of one. So really, one is technically immortal if their AI System doesn't fall victim to rust (oof). That is one cause of death, this is merely painless since you (well the AI System) are only focused on one thing and not the heart stopping bullshit.
Second version is if one's "heart" gets rusty, with this version one will feel immense pain throughout their last months since the AI System is still intact it'll give the "heart" the instructions to beat and plump oil/blood around the body, however because of the rust the oil/blood isn't good enough or clean anymore and would cause pain since it'll infect organs and such. Eventually, one will either die from oil poisoning (is blood poisoning a thing?) since instead of clean oil it is dirty oil or because of the pain one would kill themselves. Infections and such would also be a cause of death. (Cute!!)
If one's heart or brain is rusty, they can go to see a doctor so then if the brain or heart is rusty they can perform a surgery. For a heart, surgeons would cut one opened and scrape off any rust and put a protective layer anti-rust paint (that is a thing.) For brains, surgeons would find your AI System box in your head (or other places) and scape the rust off, they won't put any protective layers on the AI System box since that'll irritated the ai program, therefore causing your heart to he unsupervised and therefore your death.
The AI System box is a rectangular box full of wires, this is located in the middle of the head for normal rotary phones and typewriters as well printers. With the exceptions for Shooty and Stabby who's AI System box is above their "heart" since specifically for those heads, the AI System is small enough to fit there. Or with Abel who's phone is a candlestick, it is located in the black bakelite and probably slightly smaller in size. With Nathan Hanover, I assume it is located somewhere in the upper boat. Assuming that Mr Dicken's phone booth opens, I presume it is located in the same position where Shooty and Stabby have them. Craig has it probably in base cap, once again probably smaller in size. Dr. Circa Sission has it same position Stabby and Shooty have them in, Zimothy does as well.
An AI System box helps one to speak, it makes their voice, an AI System box also allows one to feel emotions such as fear or happiness. If an emotion part of the AI System box is damaged, one would lose some of their emotions or have one overriding emotion which is stronger then other ones or lose one emotion. If the part controlling speech is damaged, then the person will lose their voice.
However, that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY.

cut for length and for content. First Aid and Ratchet chat about medical kink and dismantling their fuckbuddies and then having sex about it but Ratchet thinks First Aid is fucking some Autobot and keeps trying to figure out who the fuck he is talking about and First Aid is convinced Ratchet vaguely referencing Wheeljack is actually talking about having a Decepticon fuckbuddy of his own so they are VERY MUCH having two different conversations at the same time
Ratchet wasn't really sure how they'd gotten onto the topic of kink, but he supposed it had to come up sooner or later. Something like one in seven medics were onlined with a sadism subroutine. It was helpful in getting mecha with particularly active empathy neurocenters over the emotional difficulty associated with cutting patients open. First Aid had the empathy in spades, and… well. He wasn't particularly subtle about the sadism, either. Still, he hadn't brought it up, and he'd slowly gotten a handle on himself and stopped staring down patients' open chassis like he wanted to drink their innermost energon, and then he'd started flouncing about with the obvious satisfied glow of someone who was getting laid and laid well. Stood to reason that he'd found someone to explain it all to him, even if that hadn't been Ratchet.
Really, Ratchet thought, listening to First Aid brag, what really didn't add up was how [easily] he'd found someone to play with.
"…so he was down two major motor relays," First Aid continued, beaming, "and I was rooting around for the third, the one in the trinariate junction behind the thoraccis?"
Ratchet knew the one, nodding. It was the motor relay that controlled the lower body of a rotary model. Maybe… Springer? Was he talking about Springer? As far as Ratchet knew, Springer didn't sub, though, and he wasn't into surgery…
"So I disabled that right about when he got the ropes I had around his wrists around my neck, and I slipped and cut him a little deeper than I meant because he wanted to kiss me. It was cute but I was so worried. The quatrenary fuel-filtration systems usually aren't that time-sensitive fixes, though, right? If I nick it a second time, that's not such a big deal, right? I never like damaging these systems before I know how they take to it."
[Quatrenary] fuel systems? Okay, so not Springer, who was on a three-tank setup… that was unusual. Wait- Blades, maybe? Was Blades a sub? Maybe that would explain why no one had told Ratchet there was another hardcore painplayer on base; he hadn't realized Ratchet was up to play with him. But it didn't really sound like Blades.
"Anyway, from there I wound up going for his arms next, after I patched the split, and once that was done the roleplay element was pretty much done, right? I'm not supposed to keep the persona up if we haven't really talked about it, right? He said I did fine, but I want to make sure I'm getting the concepts."
"Let me just get this straight," Ratchet said, running it over in his head. "You physically disabled and dismantled your partner with the understanding that you were doing a consensual-non-consent scene where you were an evil medic stripping him apart for spare parts, and you… put on some kind of persona for the paralysis but not for the organ-fondling?"
"Uh… yeah?" First Aid fidgeted a little, clasping his hands in front of his hips and then moving them back to his sides. "I did do it wrong, didn't I."
["Not] necessarily," Ratchet said, raising a hand. "Here, sit down. What makes you think you did it wrong?"
"My, uh, partner," First Aid said, slumping into a seat across from Ratchet. "Played his role the entire time. I just got wrapped up in it and forgot I was pretending to be someone else."
"Okay," Ratchet said. "You could probably afford to discuss this with your partner-- "
"He'll just wave me off," First Aid said immediately. "He says [everything] I do is perfect, even though I know I hardly know what I'm doing. I don't really know how to roleplay. I kind of don't think I like it. It feels unnatural."
Ratchet frowned. "You don't have to play a character to play a scene. You can just be yourself, acting in unusual ways. I've done it a fair few times before, and--"
First Aid's visor snapped up, rapt. Huh.
"Um," Ratchet said.
"Really?" First Aid asked.
"Yeah," Ratchet said.
"Okay, we can come back to this," First Aid said suddenly, waving one hand and then leaning over the table, folding both under his chin. "Want to swap stories?"
"What?" Ratchet said.
"I'm practically dying, not telling anyone about it," First Aid said, looking up at Ratchet. "Tripline and Outlet don't like it when I talk about my hookups, they say they think it's scary and it makes them cringe, which is fair and I get it but I hear about what they get up to all the time and no one ever listens to me about mine. I--"
"Okay, okay, I get the picture," Ratchet said, raising his hands to stem the enthusiastic tide of words. "You've got to find more friends who have similar interests, people like your rotary friend."
"And you," First Aid cut in. "You said you do it too."
"I do, but," Ratchet said. "First Aid, uh, I'm your direct superior. I'm not supposed to be involved in your romantic pursuits."
"Well, that's cool, because you aren't," First Aid said. "I just don't really know anyone else who's… you know, [cool] about… it. So just as friends."
Okay, Ratchet could work with that. It probably would do First Aid some good to introduce him to the other kinksters on board, even if there weren't many who were apparently on First Aid's level. Straight from virgin to doing full-body dismantling scenes inside of a few months. He'd certainly jumped straight into the deep end.
"Alright," Ratchet said. Probably for the best not to tell First Aid [who] he was talking about, at least until he knew First Aid wouldn't make some sort of a thing about it. He'd gotten a weird social-standards download pack, and he had some of the [oddest] gaps in his etiquette protocols. Ratchet was never sure when they were going to come out. "So, I have a friend…"
-
First Aid could hardly believe it. ['Your rotary friend'], Ratchet had said. He [knew] about Vortex.
And he was okay with it! First Aid couldn't [believe] his audials. He should've gotten the guts to talk to Ratchet sooner.
"I have a friend," Ratchet said vaguely, "someone I've known for a long time.

Bots helping out trans transformers - yes, all the circumstances depicted in this context are derivable from canon at this point. Also a post about part of how we got deep into transformers after watching Cyberverse, learning about trans ones, and the value of the stories. The thoughts are after the image IDs.
ID 1 of 4: A diorama of toy transformers on a trans flag floor in front of a sci-fi polity backdrop. On the bunk lying down is a IDW1 Arcee with her right hand raised in enthusiasm. Her left hand is held by PRID Arcee, who is also holding an energon goods box near her counterpart while turning to look to her left, as is Anode next to Lug, in turn near BBM, ER, IDW2, and Energon Arcees doing the same. Three medics are standing around PRID Arcee: BBM Ratchet with a hand to his head an MP Ratchet medical arm out his back, Minerva with an arm around him & clenching a wrench, & a custom Velocity sticking a cylindrical accessory into IDW1 Arcee's back stack as if a syringe. That Arcee has a cable running into her back. her sword hilts, a rifle, a red jetpack, & her old Spotlight Arcee back stacks by the bunk. In front is S86 Arcee with a sword over her shoulder & holding Jhiaxus's head, while Q-TF Arcee holds his rifle. Road Rage, Sideswipe, Chromia, & Animated Arcee block the entry of Ultra Magnus. End ID.
ID 2 of 4: On the same background as before is a diorama with boxes and books assembled to resemble two small apartment homes. A door made out of a sketchpaper cardboard cover is open to the apartment on the left, with a custom Velocity (from TR Blurr) standing in the doorway. Ahead of her to the right is a custom Nautica (from WFC Chromia) being embraced by a custom Lug (from TR Rewind) while a custom Anode (from RID15 Warrior Windblade) has her hands raised in excitement. Behind her IDW2 Arcee (from WFC Nightbird) shares an embrace with WFC Greenlight while the two have arms outstretched looking at the open home. Jetpack and prime armor accessories are at the feet of Lug, Anode, Arcee, and Greenlight, imitating luggage, and Anode has a fusion cannon firing chamber/grip stored in her back turbine, also imitating luggage of a sort. End ID.
ID 3 of 4: On the same backdrop with no additional structures are just some transformer toys. To the left is PotP Elita with and TR Overlord with arms on the hips or hanging to the side, and Origins Bumblebee waving. The three are watching with pride as BW Archadis and WFC Vertebreak run towards each other, WFC Acid Storm shares an embrace with Ion Storm and Nova Storm, and BBM Soundwave hugs a BBM Howlback who has leaped onto him, head and front legs on his shoulders. Gathered by those last two are BBM Buzzsaw sitting in bird mode, BBM Ravage sitting on back legs with jaws open in a howl, and BBM Frenzy waving back at Bumblebee. End ID.
ID 4 of 4: On the same trans flag and polityscape background as before, a tense situation is depicted with a transformer diorama. On the left side from back to front is Cheetor holding the Allspark & a sword, Legacy Prime Arcee holding the Omega Lock, & the Forge of Solus Prime is seen raised by a barely visible Smokescreen, standing behind the next row of bots: Legacy Bulkhead with his mace & rotary blaster out, FoC Jazz w/ a pistol raised, & Universe Tread Bolt with shoulder cannons up & his blaster over his shoulders. Next up are S86 Rodimus with a pistol and a blast effect lit Matrix, Siege Rung, WFC Airazor, a Mistress of Flame w/ hammer, IDW1 Arcee w/ swords, & CW Pyra Magna with her ax. Last in front are Cyberverse deluxe Grimlock in Trex mode, and TR Windblade holding the T30 Stormfall sword. Opposite the bots are SG Flamewar with a rotary blaster and shield raised, Cyberverse deluxe Dead End, Kingdom Cyclonus, Siege Megs, & Ultra Slipstream with blasters raised, & Motormaster with sword. End ID.
So- First image: IDW1 Arcee did actually have a reformatting surgery of her own volition from Ratchet in MTMTE #27 Dark Cybertron Chapter 10 The Becoming, and she was happy about it, unlike the extra bullshit Jhiaxus tacked on to her surgery from him! Anode helped her out in between those events for a while. Arcees generally, trans or no, care deeply about ethics and compassion of some sort, helping people out and willing to put their all into it. Showing up for the surgery of someone they care about is the kind of thing they'd do. Magnus is there cuz' he arrested her in Spotlight Arcee. Which well, prison wasn't what she (or anyone) needed for what her situation was. Sideswipe was there because even though he didn't understand her much until the end, HE TRUSTED HER ANYWAY, stood by her choices, risked his life for her as she did for him. Chromia is there because of how close she is with Windblade and how Windblade sees things, more on that later.
The second image is because Anode & Lug had been homeless for at least part of the duration of Great War, & Arcee in An Arcee Sort of Day having had trouble getting a housing loan. We chose Nautica to help them because she eventually understood Anode and Lug’s economic reasons for theft after initially taking issue with them.
The 3rd image doesn't have to do with the characters as much as it does things from IDW1 & AVP (although Archadis, Howlback, and Overlord’s gender expansive stories come up in Ask Vector Prime): in the former, the loneliness of trans characters shown, cut off from or having lost community & understanding from people, & eventually finding family. In the latter, working together for euphoria.
The last image is a bit more abstract/cobbled together. The Decepticons in e.g. Cyberverse, sought to meddle with Cybertron's reproductive autonomy: deciding form & role for new gens ('Perfect' Decepticons) with similar assignment for MTOs in IDW1, and forced weaponization (e.g. FoC). The Autobots have also sometimes been guilty of aspects of the latter two, but they more often champion autonomy as a way of life. Remaking/reforging derived from Solus Prime's story is an important metaphor/value for Camiens like Windblade, who respected Arcee when few would. The collective souls of reemerging generations in a cycle of life and death with the AllSpark parallels that reforging view, as shown by the words of Dai Atlas in the Escape miniseries, and the Matrix of Leadership had a direct link to the AllSpark in IDW2 as well.
From all this one can extrapolate that the fate of the AllSpark, the value of recreation of self and the access to capacity to do so have particular connotations both for trans transformers and all bots, just as building reciprocity, trust, wellbeing, and protection from malpractice do. Thus, to us, it's abundantly clear that while Transformers in regards to transformers does not deal with trans issues as a copy of Earth issues [this includes how in IDW1 Cybertronian androcentrism that (trans) gals face is not the same as ours] they speak to timeless aspects of autonomy. It is no accident that a number of trans people have been drawn to these stories over the years. Apart from enjoying them for other reasons, this aspect is there. Even when Transformers media is not talking about trans people, it is often dealing with things that effect us.
And that goes on a less dire level too. Like, the fact characters usually have two or more modes that are very different & related. And body modification is a deep & regular part of these stories, something a lot of people do. And the theme of change and agency itself in stories. This is say: if you either get what's happening in our world where gender expansive folks are in dire straits but we try to make joy and love anyway, just as the trans characters in these stories do, or if you can connect with how transformers is- there is something related.
If this motivates somebody to think carefully about how political engagement choices in how our lives are effected by issues mentioned prior and gets curious about transformer or robot stories that tackle this stuff, then we've achieved something. Thank you for reading :3 <3 ⚧️ 🏳️⚧️

another thing related to my last post:
please do not comment on my eyes
strabismus is misalignment of the eyes , characterized by the involuntary drifting of one eye , and is often referred to as “lazy eye.” there is exotropia ((outward turning of the eye)) , esotropia ((inward turning of the eye , often referred to as “crossed eyes”)) , hypertropia ((upward turning of the eye)) and hypotropia ((downward turning of the eye))
i was born with esotropia and after two corrective eye surgeries , i have esotropia now. i am very aware of the misalignment of my eyes , and i do not need comments telling me that my eye is drifting off to the side or my eyes are going different directions. i grew up with it , i know they're doing that , save your comments.
if i may be honest , i am aware to the point of jealousy and loneliness. to see my misaligned eyes every single day in the mirror , while surrounded by people who have aligned eyes makes me feel very isolated with my condition , even though strabismus is not rare. having my “weird eyes” being pointed out by people who have aligned eyes makes me feel like an outcast , and people staring at me because they can see my eyes drifting makes me embarrassed. hence why i tend to not make eye contact with people or often look around a lot to keep my eyes from noticeably drifting and resulting anyone pointing it out
additionally , nystagmus is the involuntary shaking of the eyes. there is horizontal nystagmus , vertical nystagmus , and rotary/torsional nystagmus
i have horizontal nystagmus , and once again , i am very aware of the movement of my eyes. please dont make comments that my eyes are shaking , and please do not say things like its scary or makes you uncomfortable. like my strabismus , it is something i cannot help. saying its creepy or weird feels very hurtful , as i dont try to do it on purpose and im not at all trying to scare people. i actually felt really bad when i found out it creeped people out , and so i tried my hardest to keep it from happening in front of people. unlike my strabismus , i can make my nystagmus happen by looking out my eyes at a certain angle , but please never ask me to do it just to see it for fun or anything. i do have random moments where my nystagmus is uncontrollable for a few seconds , and my only way to get it to stop is looking around a lot rapidly , and i would rather you not remark on me rapidly looking around and how “strange” it is or i am
please just be respectful of me and my eye conditions. please do not make comments on my eyes , and especially keep the “thats weird” “thats strange” “thats creepy” comments to yourself

Recent Good Things from Work
- Coworker and I were both grumpy and stressed because he had to look for a new apartment and I had to look for a new car, so we traded tasks and I looked for apartments for him and he looked for cars for me. He said he felt a lot less bleak afterward + he gave me some good financial advice about buying a car, so it was a win-win.
- I had a mole removed on my arm, so I got to show my gnarly stitches to two coworkers who know I’ve had top surgery and they were both like, “You’re going to have such a bad-ass scar!” and I was like “I know!! And I can show this one off in public!!” and they both laughed
- one of them asked if I watched the surgeons remove the mole bc that seemed like something I would do and I love that I have that vibe??
- So many good clothes compliments? THREE different people said they liked my bee shirt today!! And one person last week said I was very ‘casual chic’! And whenever I wear my bowling-alley-carpet button-up, at least one person a day comments on how bright it is!
- Had a patron literally jump for joy when they saw our pride lists with ace/aro-led books, and my queer coworker and I spent a high-energy 15 minutes giving them title recommendations
- Had a patron flawlessly use they/them pronouns for me, and it was so validating after like a solid two months of getting misgendered by everyone coming up to the desk. We also talked about escape rooms and rotary phones and it was delightful.
- Also, a coworker who had been in the habit of saying, “There she is!” when she sees me has recently started saying, “There they are!” instead, and it is SO LOVELY <3
- a patron very earnestly called me an Angel in Disguise for patiently helping her book one of our meeting rooms
- On that note, more and more patrons seem to be interjecting things like, “Thank you for being so kind,” and “Thank you for your patience,” into their conversations with me, and I don’t reallllly think I’m doing anything new or different with how I help them or answer questions? I think a lot of us are just starved for patience and kindness right now, and they’re happy to find it where they can, and I’m glad I can be a reliable source

Adding to this post - I went in for shoulder surgery for a rotary cuff injury. Fun stuff. Anyways, before they told me to count to 10, I threatened that if they hurt my dad, they would regret breathing. Woke up like 3 hours later, and said, “put me back under. I was chasing the nurse who hurt my dad.”
