#Rose and Locket

If I had a nickel for every post-apocalyptic Weird West themed indie metroidvania with unconventional movement tech, a guitar-centric soundtrack, and a hand-drawn comic book art style where you play as a middle-aged gunslinger on a quest to save her daughter that's being released next year, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

PAX East 2024: Critical Reflex Flexes Their Muscle

Critical Reflex still managed to show off a lovely variety of games, all of which looked captivating in their own unique ways. And now we'll just have to wait and see if any of them live up to their full potential once they come out (well, except for Buckshot Roulette, seriously, go play it), but the future is still looking bright for Critical Reflex.

Ok crackhead theory for season 2 of Arcane.

I, for one, remain convinced that the golden glimmery thing on Mel's back is the Locket of the Iron Solari and that it protected her, Jayce, and Shoola from Jinx's rocket.

I bring to the stand: the councilroom after the explosion.

Necrit pointed out that there are a lot of cracks in the floor from the explosion. I checked and these aren't just cracks from the windows refracting onto the floor; these are actual damages to the building. But there is this big clean circle on the right side with no cracks:

To cut to the chase, this is the shield provided by Mel's locket. My sibling pointed out that all of the cracks radiate from this circle, resembling a sun and also indicating that the force came from or was deflected off of this shield.

In this shot, two people are standing inside the circle - Mel and Shoola - and everyone else - like Salo - is outside. If we cross-reference this with the last scene of season 1...

It would appear that the center of the circle (where Shoola is standing in the season 2 shot) is where Jayce was standing at the time of the explosion. This explains why Jayce and Mel are unscathed; Mel jumped towards Jayce to shield him from the explosion. It also explains why Shoola is alive and why only the RIGHT side of her face was harmed.

This DOESN'T explain how Viktor died. By all means, he should have been inside the shield. He was right next to Jayce. And he wasn't exactly able to jump out of the way on his own.

Ok, quick crazy tangent that I don't fully believe but is worth noting. It is really interesting that the cracks emanate from the shield, and that Jinx's rocket parts are somehow still intact:

How crazy would it be if Jinx's rocket was a dud, just like Powder's toys, and MEL actually caused the explosion?

Anyway, back to the believable stuff. Where did Mel get the Locket of the Iron Solari, anyway? I think her mother gifted it to her after taking it from that one girl in Mel's nightmare flashback.

This would explain why Mel isn't willing to tell Jayce how they survived unharmed. The locket was bathed in blood.

Ok, last theory connected to this. I believe that the Black Rose is currently pursuing the Medarda family to reclaim the Locket. "Settle a debt," "You know what you stole," etc. Ambessa or somebody else in the family stole this thing, perhaps when Ambessa gifted that kingdom to Mel. Ambessa would make sure Mel wore it in order to protect her from this exact type of event.

But the Black Rose noticed (as they are wont to do) and the Locket became a target on Mel's back. Ambessa tried to salvage the situation by banishing Mel to Piltover where she might be hidden. But that didn't work. So the question becomes: Why can't Ambessa just give the Locket back? Surely Mel would propose this as well, if she knew the Black Rose was after her. What is the Locket protecting Mel from that is worth the threat of the BLACK ROSE?

They're at college with Asriel and Chara and are majoring in chemistry. Martlet adopted them off the streets when they were pretty young and they latched onto her straight away, and the two of them live a few hours away from Hometown.

(Berdly always drags them into playing video games with him during family gatherings. They only really care about super smashing fighters and shooters though.)

Azzy can be kind of a dick now that he's free of the expectations everyone has of him in hometown and his friends enable this waaaaay too much.
