Rook Tarot Card Ask Game -
The Fool: Where did Rook's journey begin? What were they doing before joining the Veilguard?
Teehee I wrote a backstory fic that I'll just share again for this one!
Death: What part of Rook do they need to kill to become the best version of themselves?
Honestly if someone just gave Vio a good dose of daily Venlafaxine he'd be great. But since that's not available, I think what would do him good is if he learned how to accept love from others easier.

the lovers and judgement for the rook tarot asks!
Wow, I was surprised someone will actually ask haha. Thanks!)
(Eng is not my first language, so if there any mistakes pls inform me)
rn i have 3 main Rooks:
qunari Virida Aldwir (she/her), dwarf Teighan Ingellvar (she/they) and elf Nailynn Thorne (she/her)
The Lovers: Who is your Rook's most significant relationship within the Veilguard? How do they help Rook feel seen and understood?
Virida: She’s very flattered by Emmrich attention, thoughtfulness and kindness. Not a lot people gave her that (outside of her family). Also she’s impressed with how much effort he puts in their dates. Since she has vibe of “mom” of team, it’s nice to have someone who would take care of her. Tbh, just his smile makes her heart go crazy, but she would never admit it haha.
Teighan: Despite their origins, Teighan is very collected person. With Bellara it’s more Teighan making sure she’s seen. Especially, as Mourn Watcher, helping her going through grief. Also, Teighan never thought that their friendship will (or could) blossom into something more. Maybe just being there for their partner and not being alone is what Tei needed.
Nailynn: This Rook is very anxious and clumsy and Neve’s confidence and cool persona makes Nailynn feel more secure and she less afraid to be more herself around Neve. Also Rook feel that Neve actually likes her company wich makes Lynn happy. Nailynn also had big crush on Neve since their first interaction in the Lighthouse.
Judgement: How does Rook approach difficult decisions? How do they cope with the consequences of those choices?
Virida: Like a responsible leader she thought about all possibilities with hope that none of her ream get hurt. She accepts the consequences of the actions. Tho, she’s stubborn person and acts very defensive about her decisions.
Teighan: They act first and think second. Probably, later (in the beginning of Act 2) Teighan actually sit and rethink everything, when she realise that it’s not only her life on line. Someone will get hurt if Tei won’t be careful.
Nailynn: If things turn out badly, she will blame herself mostly since she’s in charge. Nailynn always unsure of herself and she better under someone else guidance, but eventually she’ll become more confidante in herself.

fantasy:
I load up Dragon Age: Veilguard for my first play. After creating my Rook, I progress to a simple screen. "Continuing Your Adventure?", it asks, with a quick explanation that this part of customization is optional and will have no effect on the Veilguard story, but players of previous games can enter a few key choices and find easter eggs about them while exploring.
"Don't mind if I do!" I say, and am taken to a lovely interface where I make about 10 choices by selecting beautiful tarot cards representing the major outcomes of previous games. This is a pleasant experience, because each card is accompanied by a brief summary of that choice and an intriguingly vague blurb about the consequences it had over the past decade-ish in Thedas. Fun! I read the lore, admire the art, reminisce on playthroughs of yore, and enter Veilguard excited to experience the next part of the story.
Later, I loot an "Orlesian mask", and Rook or a companion delivers a banter line referencing the leader(s) of Orlais, whom I selected in world state customization. Hark, codex updated?! I open the entry and read it, and the text delivers payoff on the intriguingly vague blurb from the tarot card.
By the end of the game, I have found similar easter eggs for all of the world state choices I selected in customization. While it would have been nice for these choices to be woven more organically into the story, I understand why this would have been impractical, and am content to see my Thedas represented in a simple, fun, and engaging way :)

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
There's some post-game thoughts I can mark as spoiler ones. Read only if you finished the game.
I love the game. Really. The grand finale was magnificent, the main plot idea is painfully touching and I adore the heavy weight of sorrow I bear after I finished the game. The best kind of bittersweet grief of possible.
However it doesn't mean the game is flawless. There's some stuff I didn't get at all.
Why there's no option to ask Solas about the Forgotten Ones? Like, hello, you have an encyclopedia of elven lore in your head, can't you ask a few optional questions about weird ancient guy you've met during the journey? Nadas Dirthalen? (Or it's because da5 is going to be about new dwarven and/or qunari lore and Forgotten Ones/Executors?)
You also can't say anything about the murals.. which is kinda strange. Why didn't Rook comment those mind-blowing revelations? For Harding, at least?
Evanuris. Solas' story is beautifully written, Mythal' story was also revealed more than before (even if she's in all 4 games) so we get to know her better. But Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain? Fine, forget other evanuris.. but the spectacular duo? Spirits and demons are kinda the same, like two sides of a coin. Solas is Wisdom and Pride, Mythal is Benevolence and Retribution (as Morrigan said). Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain are just.. bad? They're blighted and corrupted now but what about the past? Where's the duality of their personalities? No chance for redemption now because they don't want or need it, I get the idea, but the story itself? I wish there would be more about them. We do have something on Ghilan'nain tho, like: she created hallas but can't create them any longer and she has a full control over the Blight as if it's modeling clay (+ some Bellara' thoughts on a matter of "navigation" and "healing" and path Ghilan'nain chose for the People). But Elgar'nan? He likes tyranny. And he still had his hair. Uhm.. ┐( ∵ )┌
Romances. Can't say much because I didn't try all of them but Neve's and Lucanis'.. uhm. It doesn't feel like a written romance, y'know? Just a bonus lines so you doesn't have to feel lonely or whatever. Characters are on their own and don't have connection with Rook till the very end. There's no impact and Rook is, ironically, just an enjoyable side benefit™ but nothing more. Comparing to datv romance situation solavellan romance is hot as hell and full of content. And it says a lot.
Inquisitor. I do like how their absence was explained... yet Lavellan was robbed. I don't want to see a cringe Fade therapy session with Solas telling his tragic lovestory to a random stranger (Rook) and whining about just how much he misses his gorgeous wife (and I'm solavellan). But adding a few tiny details? The bare minimum: take the dai tarot card and place it on the wall in a music room. That already could've been much better. (mods mods mods 🤞🤞🤞).
Dialogue timing and triggers. I suspect dialogues are cool but I can't know for sure. In my first playthrough I didn't even know Davrin and Lucanis are not a big fans of each other before the Weisshaupt quest because I didn't hear it. DATV locations are much smaller than it was in DAI, so you just don't get the chance to hear those dialogues unless you find a trigger point and just stay there waiting to play all lines.
Some of that is not a tragedy and, theoretically, could be improved by magnificent people creating mods. But sometimes datv seems kinda unfinished like there's a missing puzzle pieces as if content was cut out with no replacement.
Despite some questionable moments and a bit of criticism I love this game regardless. It's dark and atmospheric, absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing. And analysis of Regret? Choices and consequences, acceptance, struggling, desperation, guilt..? The work Bioware did deserves to be highly appreciated. The final left me in tears, sobbing and grieving, and heartbroken - that's all I ever wanted of Dragon Age 💜

the empress and the wheel of fortune for Lydia? :]
ahh thank you for the ask <333
The Empress: What does family mean for Rook?
Answered here!
The Wheel of Fortune: Describe an interesting character moment for your Rook. What made this moment stand out to you?
There are definitely a few moments that stick out in my memory, but I'm gonna go with a fun one for this question: The lead up to the Fangscorcher fight 🔥 Taash described her as a quote "big dumb puppy" afterwards, and I feel like that hit the nail on the head lol. She was so excited for this fight, she doesn't share Taash's dragon expertise but she does love dragons, they're these huge powerful beasts with abilities strong enough to rock your to your core...... she'd never fight one for no reason, obviously, and it's not like she wants to have a bunch of innocent dead dragons to deal with on a logical level, but like. if the dragon's already causing trouble anyway. and there's really no other choice but to tango with it... CanShePleaseFightTheDragonPleasePleaseOmgSheWantsToFightADragonSOBAD-
and idk it's just a moment I find really really cute, and appropriately "Dragon" Age heh <3

Thank you for the asks and for making the ask game, Taamlok 💙💙
Rook Tarot Card Asks - Felix Mercar
The Magician: What are Rook's thoughts on Solas? Do they change as the story progresses?
At the start, Felix does not trust Solas to not lie twice when saying "Good Morning". The problem with Felix is that he likes people, and wants to be needed. So when Solas starts approving of him he starts to fall for the schtick.
When the betrayal comes it was like slowly watching a knife being thrust into your chest, and not moving out of the way. He knew it was probably coming, and it still hurt anyway.
Strength: What gives your Rook courage? What inspires them to keep fighting?
Partially it is duty, to be a shield or sword for those that cannot be that themselves. A habit learned from two decades of being raised by a military commander.
A lot of it is simply his own ideals. The feeling of having to do something, because he wants things to be better, he wants to help. Felix cannot stand to see people in pain or discomfort, especially if he feels he has the ability to make things better.
(and for the current mission, some of it is guilt for playing a part in causing all this.)

Mina & The Hermit and The World cards for the tarot asks 👀❤️
Thank you, I love these ones! ♥
The Hermit: When Rook is alone with their thoughts, what do they think about? Is solitude a blessing or a curse for them?
This is a really interesting question! I think Mina is very future-minded. I don't think she dwells too much on her mistakes/regrets in general, and she's not, for example, tormented by her painful memories. If one thing from her past does stick out in her mind, it's that she has older siblings out there somewhere in Thedas and that she's not sure where they are.
So in general, I think solitude is peaceful for her. She tends to think about the people she's close with- initially Viago, the other Crows of House de Riva, and then Lucanis, Bellara, and the other members of the Veilguard. She worries more about them than her own problems.
The World: What does happily-ever-after look like for Rook? Is it attainable, or just wishful thinking?
I think a happily-ever-after is very attainable for Mina. She's a woman of simple pleasures, and I think it doesn't take a lot for her to be content. With the friends and relationships she makes during Veilguard, even during the game with the shitshow unfolding, I think she's generally quite happy, even to the extent that she feels a bit guilty about it (save for the end of Act 2, obviously).
Are things going to be extremely complicated for her post-game? Definitely. Lucanis as a reluctant First Talon, herself as a de Riva- if Lucanis and Viago ever ended up at odds, that would be very difficult for her. But with Lucanis (and Spite) caring for her the way that they do, I think she will continue to be, on the whole, pretty happy.

For the Tarot ask game for your Rook, The Sun, The Devil, and Temperance :)
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS thanks for the ask! (sneaking in an updated pic of Meandra because I want to)
The Sun: What is Rook passionate about? How do they fuel that passion?
I know this is more about hobbies and just things she likes but the thing that comes to mind when I think about this is defiance. She lives to defy higher powers for the sake of people in need and she loves it. She fuels that every day with her work, her contracts are usually against slavers, kidnappers, murderers, just really really bad people in general (like, Aelia bad)
The Devil: What type of demon is most likely to target Rook? Why?
Based on both past events in her life and recent events in everything else that followed, rage demons :) She has lived a life of anger from a very young age + just everything in Veilguard. She is used to bottling up feelings but when she snaps it's a disaster, it's tables breaking and knives flying, it's doors being kicked down and windows shattering.
Temperance: What does Rook do to deal with the stress of their situation?
Drowns herself in work, can't think about your problems if you're solving everyone else's.

rook questionnaire
tagged by the curious and funny @jainydoe
I've only got the one, and they only recently got a name b/c before they were just "Strength" AKA the tarot card I based them off of.
This is Ishtar Laidir
1: Where in the Thedas is your Rook from?
Nevarra, originally. (I don't like the LoF background in game, so this bitch just had a Crisis and left home)
2: What is your character's alignment?
Ironically, they're a blue/purple. Which I guess puts them for classic DnD alignments as neutral good
3: Race and subclass?
Human Warrior/Reaper Subclass
4: If your Rook was a companion, where would they be found?
Recruit site is gonna be the Rivian Battle Pit (make that actually relevant to plot), but at the Lighthouse they like the music room. They put up a hammock and tend to pick at strings
5: What emotion did they usually pick?
Again, they're a blue/purple. I found myself picking mostly 👍🎭 options with them, right up until the end game
6: What companion are you platonically close with?
Neve. They have the same self deflecting tactics. The same kind of reputation that means their names are in the papers. And the same debilitating horror when they realize they like someone
7: Romantically close with?
Emmrich. They honestly thought he was gonna be just another stuffy mage like the kind they had to guard back home. They like the fact he's fond of spirits and treats everything with a level of fondness.
8: Who are they suspicious of?
Literally everyone. Even Neve and Emmrich. Being a Reaper tends to make you Like That b/c spirits, even the "good" ones always have plans on schemes on plots
9: Does your Rook get along with their chosen Faction?
Lord of Fortune Faction: mostly. They're a brawler these days, and their stage name is "Lord of Mourning". They just like the fact that they're allowed to sun bathe, eat fruit, and Vibe™️
10: Are they proficient in playing any instruments?
They knew the harp as a kid, picked up guitar when they left. They don't think they're any good, they just like playing. The wisps around Neve think otherwise but what do wisps know?
11: Weapon of choice?
Claymore and Scythes. Two Handed Fighter AKA Whackis Bongus
12: What is their orientation?
They say Butch. She/They pronouns, generally masc, and bisexual. Always walking around without a shirt on (to the other's horror and delight). But any time people ask, the answer is Butch regardless.
13: What are their thoughts on killing? Is it a necessary evil or do they enjoy it?
Killing and Death are two different things. However it wasn't until they left home they realized why. As a Reaper who had to guard mages in the Necropolis during their dives, they would forget how to tell the difference. Nowadays they try to avoid killing people, or leave the deathblow to someone else
14: What hobbies does your Rook have?
Sun bathing and "plucking strings". Ishtar also lives a good nap
15: What NPCs do they like? Which one's do they dislike?
They have an employee/boss relationship with Isabela, they like Strife (Warrior solidarity), and thinks Antoine needs to listen to his wife more and the Blight less.
16: Do they have a favorite creature in the Thedas?
Mabari! There was a Nevarran noble who got buried with an entire litter and had statues carved for every dog he had. Something about the dogs always seemed a comfort, and wisps of compassion and protection always flocked to the bones. They want to see a live one, one day.
17: Do they enjoy life as an adventurer?
Eh? It just seemed the only thing open to them when they left home. There's very little someone who swings a big ass weapon and knows spirits can do. Rivian was the only place that had a similar respect like Nevarra does, and being a pit fighter keeps them active.
18: What would your Rook be doing if they weren't recruited by Varric?
Still fighting for money with the LoF, ignoring the rest of the world (and failing)
19: How do you think they'll meet their end?
They figure when it's time, they'll go back home and do what all Reapers do: find a mage who wants an undead bodyguard and let themselves be killed/transformed. Right up until Emmrich says otherwise, they figure they'll just let him do it. He'll at least keep talking to them after they're gone.
20: Would they side with Solas or fight him?
They are so fucking pissed they do in fact fight that bitch. Chose the trick option in game, but yeah they will punch him first to distract him
21: What is your Rook's favorite ability?
The Reaper Ult, Shield Toss, and the Jump Heavy Attack where you swing the weapon to cleave a bitch in two
22: What languages is your character fluent in?
King's Common. They picked up phrases in other languages but nothing that's conversational
23: What do they do after an absolute crisis?
24: Does your character believe in the afterlife?
They know the body can be used, that growth and decay go hand in hand, and they have the controversial ideology that when someone passes, their memories and emotions split into a thousand different wisps, seeking out like minded fractures. It's a very heated debate in Nevarra, and Emmrich hates the theory. Ishtar likes it though.
25: What specialization best represents your Rook?
They're a Reaper™️, it fits their general "put that thing back where it came from or so help me"
26: What animal best represents your Rook?
They're based on the strength tarot, they are a Big Lazy Wild Cat. Sun bathing, kind of a loner, will absolutely fuck a bitch up but only if you bother them first.
27: What was their life like before the events of Veilguard?
Pit Fighter. Prized Boxer type ass, letting Isabela be their manager.
28: Is your character the de facto leader of the party? Or do they consider someone else to be the leader?
Right up until [REDACTED], they very much believe Varric to be in charge. They think they're better as a second, they've always been the second.
Afterwards though, the Real DAO Reaper bloodlust leader comes out
29: If you could choose a different faction for your Rook, which one would they have joined and why?
I had planned to have them be a Mourn Watcher before the game was out, but when I played the first time, LoF fit them way more.
30: What's your favorite thing about your Rook?
In game, they're the bitch whose life is falling apart and telling everyone else to "drink water ((:" which is hilarious.
I'm writing a Modern AU w/them right now, and I think my favorite thing is the fact that they tease everyone. They know look like a big muscle block head. They get a kick out of saying things that prove their intelligence and watching others blue screen.

One of the things I like to do on Twitter is periodically post all of the stuff I've gotten from various crowdfunding and other Indie RPG sources. I am (apparently) a Kickstarter Superbacker, not in the sense of "Person who's constantly in the comments asking where something is", but in the sense of "Now that I've got some disposable income, I put a lot of it into the Indie and Small Press TTRPG scene."
This represents about 2-3 months of Crowdfunders coming to fruition and a couple of purchases from a couple of stores. Here's what's in the list (and a bit about why I'm hype for it!):
Top row
Arcon: The City of Neon Daylight - This year, I've getting into system agnostic setting guides. I recall hearing a lot about this one, because it set out to make a Cyberpunk setting that avoided some of the problematic tropes that tend to fall in with that aesthetic.
Public Guest 5 - It's an RPG on a poster! I was intrigued to see how it would play out, and really like the aesthetic. I have it framed and sitting behind my desk. Been thinking of working it into a (stalled) Ironsworn campaign to create an in-world artifact.
Die RPG - I'm admittedly a big Rowan, Rook and Deckard fanboy. I also read and enjoyed some of Kireon Gillen's work, and was intrigued by the team-up. Having since read the first 5 issues of the comic, I'm super into this whole thing. It seems like a really powerful skewering of some tropes in fantasy gaming, combined with an emotional intelligence that I'm really curious to dig into.
Upper-middle row
Anyone can Wear the Mask - I'm admittedly a big Jeff Stormer fanboy... (I was doing a bit, but honestly, he makes rad stuff. Check out Party of One asap). I loved Dee Pennyway's work on the system this is based on, and having heard a couple of playthroughs of this game, it's a must-have. Jumped on it as soon as it was available.
Scraps - Cesar Capacle's work in the scene is one-of-a-kind. I have yet to read it, but it bills itself as a crafting RPG with a hopeful streak, which I'm super intrigued by. I think I can learn a lot of design stuff from it, and I think it's going to just be a great game.
Derelict Delvers - Another Capacle banger idea. Again, got it in part because of the creator, but the concept is one I'm also intrigued by. Scrapping in space is something I've been more and more intrigued by. So, I'll have to make some time to get into this one.
The Vaults of Vaarn - I'm admittedly susceptible to peer pressure... I mean. Wait. No. I've heard really good, intriguing things about this, and Games Omnivorous has made a ton of really amazing, high-quality volumes that I guess I'm starting to collect? Lately, I've been getting a lot of Weird Sci-fi stuff, and I understand this is part of that world.
Lower-middle row
Broken Cities - I picked up another of Come Martin's works, Meanwhile, in the Subway, a little bit ago. It's an RPG printed on a subway map, that takes place in a weird public transit. This game takes place in the city that the transit serves. It's standalone, but I can't wait to see how they connect.
The Fall of Home - Zinequest is a rough month for me, because so many people make such rad stuff that I struggle to control my purchases (see, Superbacker, above). Fall of Home hit a lot of intriguing touchstones, and... well, I'm fascinated by a lot of things, but exploring ruins with a very personal touch just grabs me.
Rad-Hack - I've got a couple of other Skullfungus titles, and I keep hearing about the Black Hack. This was an impulse purchase on Lulu, where Cesar Capacle's books are printed, but I'm curious to see how close this skews to the Fallout series, and whether it's a better fit for my tastes than the Fallout RPG...
Bottom row
Spindlewheel - Honestly, when I backed this, I expected to get a beautiful, tarot-like set of cards to use as an oracle or for games of its own. I underestimated how beautiful this set was going to be. Gold-edged, they're shiny and printed on fantastic card stock. I've mostly stared at these things, I almost worry that if I play them too much I'll damage them.
Down we Go + Beneath the Necropolis - Backed this initially because I've been getting more embedded into the Plus One EXP community of late, and I think this is their flagship title. Having heard a couple of APs, and played around with the system a little, I'm super hyped to really dig into the system.
No Way to Make a Living - Early on in my time in the indie RPG scene, I recall hearing Sandy Pug Games talk about this book. A series of interviews with creators in the space, from huge names down to the more esoteric folks. When I heard this was being printed by Metal Weave Games, it became a Must-have. (Arcon was an impulse purchase to go along with it).
The Million Islands of Doom - I really love Snow's work in general, and again, setting guides are my go-to. It feels a lot like Zelda (a series that means so much to me, my therapist has told me to play more of it as therapy homework...), specifically Wind Waker, but with a more RPG-flavored world. I've skimmed it, but really want to dig in. I'm constantly trying to figure out how I'll pair this up with either Games Omnivorous' Bottled Sea, or Skullfungus' Isle of Ixx.
Dinocar - Dinoberry Press makes the raddest stuff. I nearly passed on this, but I do spend some time with some family friends whose kids are into dinosaurs, the parents are into RPGs, and I figure if we should start them early. Plus, the thought of building a city and sending dinos in cars through it? Yet another of my many jams.
On Twitter, because I kinda hate typing stuff on my phone, I don't really get this deep into why I'm hype for the stuff I get. This was kinda fun, though! Maybe I'll do it again in a couple of months.
Bonus, some other gaming and game-design stuff I've gotten
Thunder Road Vendetta - When I was a kid, a friend's family owned the original version of this game. I never played it, but always wanted to. I very loosely understood some of the components, and wanted to see how they fit together (why it took me to my mid-30s to get into game design, I'll never know). So, when Restoration Games announced a revamp, I was in. I've picked up a couple of their other titles, and they make good games.
Self Made Man - Several years ago, I went to visit a friend in Portland, ME. They had gotten really into the community for a local comic shop up there. Periodically, the owner (and some other folks in that community) make comics, like this one. I like to support them both because they're friends, and because their stuff is always fun.
The Affinity Designer Workbook - I didn't pick up the Affinity Publisher workbook when I first got Publisher, and kinda kicked myself when it fell out of print. When Affinity put out their 2.0 suite, I grabbed it, and Designer is the next on I want to learn, so when I saw it on Thriftbooks, I snagged a copy.
My hope is that these posts don't come off as anything other than me being hyped about all the really rad stuff that the Indie RPG and small press gaming scenes are coming up with. I try to give each of them a similar amount of hype, because there are some really cool designers toiling away in near obscurity, and they very much deserve to be mentioned in the same breaths as some of the bigger names.
So, if any of my hype rubs off on you, go check 'em out!

The Tower and the Wheel of Fortune? for the Rook ask game?
Rook Tarot Card Ask Game -
The Tower: How does Rook respond to unexpected catastrophe?
Crows never abandon a contract is what echoes in Vio's head whenever things get tough. He's gotta keep going, because it's his job to keep going.
The Wheel of Fortune: Describe an interesting character moment for your Rook. What made this moment stand out to you?
I really enjoy the preparation for the final battle - I feel like it's the moment where Vio really, truly, fully steps into the shoes of a leader, and has hard earned the respect as such from his peers.

Hello! Can I please have a tarot reading? My question is how can I get more connected to my magical practice in the new year? I have a pendulum made of a chain and a ring that's very important to me and some crystals, most of which were gifted to me, and a few other things. I've had these for a long time and I'd like to use them more and get more attuned to them. Is there anything specific I can try with what I have? I'm a Virgo sun, Taurus rising, and Aquarius moon. If it would help or is relevant, could I also have an oracle card pull and a crystal recommendation? Thank you so much! 💚✨️
Hi! Thanks for your question! The card that came forth for you is the Knight of Swords. If you’ve been dipping your toes in the magickal and otherworldly, it’s time to completely jump in. The Knight of Swords is a card about action. I get the feeling you’ve been marinating on the desire to develop your connection and grow in your practice. But the best way to improve your connection is to just pull the trigger and start doing. Use what you have and take baby steps. One small magickal act a day can build up and become a habit over time. You can devote time with your pendulum, 10-20 mins a day to ask questions and really get to know it. There’s a lot you can do if you don’t have a lot of physical items to work with. (So much about magick is intention anyway, tho the proper rooks and spell ingredients help.) Make a list of what you have and research how you can best utilize those tools available to you. I don’t know the specifics of your practice, so I can’t recommend a solid game plan. But the Knight of Swords is telling you to just jump into it!
I also pulled an oracle card for you. The card is Soulmates (not in the romantic sense) but speaks to how we are all mirrors if each other and each others’ souls. Look inward and you’ll find things about yourself that you have in common with others. Other people have a lot to teach you about yourself.
I hope this helped!💫

justice and the hanged man for the rook asks!
You didn't specify a rook, so I'll do both!
Justice: How does Rook feel about the circumstances that led to them leaving their faction? What does returning feel like?
Kalias didn't feel like it was fair that the crows reprimanded him. Kalias was kidnapped by slavers as a kid (thus why he doesn't have an Antivian accent) before being freed/recruited by the Crows, so Viago knows he has very strong opinions on slavers/kidnappers (Also why he took them out quickly without thinking.) But he understood why Viago sent him away. Honestly, returning felt like a breath of fresh air. He honestly thought Viago would be more upset with him, but he could tell he just missed his little chaos brother, but so did everyone else in house De Riva (plus Teia).
Veryl on the other hand was really upset. He upheld his oath, and protected those who needed protecting from darkspawn, no matter the cost. It's not his fault the cost was throwing town hall on top of the darkspawn hole! He on the other hand was more tense when rejoining the wardens (outside of Davrin/Evka/Antoine). He was polite, but you could tell he and the first Warden never got along.
The Hanged Man: What does Rook do when their hard work doesn't pay off? How do they cope with failure?
Kalias takes things personally. He often feels guilty when things don't go how they were supposed to, most likely due to his Crow training, and if there is more added on, he gets stressed easily. He doesn't show it though and usually just laughs things off and shoves his feelings down until he eventually breaks down and it'll take a few days for him to recover. He usually isolates himself in that situation.
Veryl takes things one step at a time. Sometimes you have to improvise when things go awry, and you usually don't have time to mourn what you could have done when every day is touch and go. He tends to look on the more positive side of things and he takes his wins where he can.

The hermit, the star and the sun! 😁
Rook Tarot Card Ask Game
I love these!! Nice deep ones, gotta give em a good ponder 🤔
The Hermit: When Rook is alone with their thoughts, what do they think about? Is solitude a blessing or a curse for them?
She thinks about the people she loves. what drives those people. She makes connections about what folks need and brainstorms solutions that can do the most good for the greatest amount of people. She uses the depth of her personal relationships with the folks she loves as a lens through which to frame the global conflicts they're all tied up in. Whether it's a blessing or a curse depends on how the fight against the gods is going. If it's going poorly, she needs to be with her people.
The Star: When things get dark, what gives Rook hope?
Ryel has seen some of the worst of Tevinter's ugliness. When she gets really dark she thinks of those who bring the light. The Shadow Dragons were there to pull her through the darkest period of her life, and teach her to channel her hurt safely in the right direction.
I think, to Ry, Neve is the embodiment of that right now. And a living breathing reminder of the power of connection. Here they are, frequently in the heart of the Magisterium, a human mage and an elf just one generation removed from enslavement. Neve and Ry might as well be from different planets, and yet somehow the same forces drive them toward the same ends. Not just against the gods but in their city. Their Tevinter.
That is a testament to the power of connection. The power of a collective of good people, channeling their hurt in the right direction. And that shit fills Rook with hope.
The Sun: What is Rook passionate about? How do they fuel that passion?
She's always been passionate about elven history and culture! Her time in Arlathan, just before meeting Varric and returning to Minrathous, was super inspiring for her. She learned a ton. She's honestly kind of baffled every day that shes playing such a huge part of the history generations in the future will read about. She definitely panics about it sometimes, too, and has had a lot of late night deep chats with Bel and Davrin (when he's willing, maybe like 40% of the time lol)
So yeah, because of their current job, she's not really hurting for fuel on this particular passion. If anything, she could probably use a break from it lol 😅
#Thanks for asking!! These are so fun#Lol I kept thinking “what is that fruit passionate about” while answering “the sun”#datv#dragon age#the veilguard#dragon age veilguard#Ask#Rook Mercar#Ryel

tarot ask meme thing: the lovers / the empress? 👀
rook tarot card ask game.
the lovers: who is your rook's most significant relationship within the veilguard? how do they help rook feel seen and understood?
i was going to talk about lucanis since he is rook's lover but honestly, i feel her friendship with davrin is more substantial. he backs up her ideas but isn't afraid to let her know when she's gotten the wrong end of the stick and needs to take a step back to look at the situation as a whole. they both understand what it's like to have a huge burden of responsibility lumped upon them (rook leading the veilguard, davrin being responsible for the continued existence of the gryphons sheesh) but together they're slowly learning that they're able to rely on others and ask for help.
the empress: what does family mean for rook?
iskra puts more stock in found family. she considers everyone in the veilguard family, even if she doesn't get on with them all quite the same because there's nothing like a big, messy family of people that you found on your own.
