I’ve been looking forward to VG for years now. I had the basics of my next characters down since I finished inquisition.

I knew I needed by female rogue to be a Qunari I and I knew the male mage I needed to be an elf.

Updated with the final versions of my VG protags. I’m quite happy with them.

I am pretty flexible with working out how muses can interact with other muses from different games, I just need to work it out. Alright, so now that I've completed the game, I'll be resuming my regular posting.

Veiltober Day 3 - Fade

Name: Rook Brosca-Aranai de Riva Pronouns: They/Them Race/Class: Qunari Spellblade Faction: The Antivan Crows Background: The adoptive Qunari child of Warden-Commander Beth Brosca and Zevran Aranai, trained in magic by her aunt Morrigan, and now leader of the Veilguard.

Rook’s first trip to the fade was a dream. 

The magic had wrapped around them as a child, luring them into a glittering glade where wisps danced around their feet. They had run wild among blurring trees, chased birds, and played peekaboo with rabbits, unaware of the danger. This dreaming world was perfect, until the demon arrived. 

It took the form of a crow, perched on a fallen log at the edge of the clearing, cooing at them about their deepest feelings. 

Your parents are always leaving you behind, leaving you with Morrigan and Leo. Leaving you with Keiran. They’re afraid of you, afraid of your powers. A Qunari child is one thing, but a Qunari mage? 

Keiran’s parents love him, they accept his magic. They relish it. He’s stronger than you. More powerful. 

Are you jealous? 

You could be so much more than you are.

Rook stares at the crow, head tilted. Long brown hair cascades down their back, wild and free, tangling around their short horns. The creature's words make them pause to think, reflecting on the decade of their life before this moment. 

“Stronger?” Rook pushes themself to their feet, smiling. They approach the crow, leaning down to be closer to its level. “I think I’m strong enough!” 

Mortals like you can only be so strong. I could give you power beyond your wildest dreams. 

“Wildest dreams?” Rook frowns. “I don’t think my dreams are very wild. I like my life.” 

I-

“You don’t know me.” They straighten up, looking around. “This is the Fade, this is my dream. Auntie Morrigan taught me about this, I have power here!” 

Reaching out, they pull on the humming magic in their veins and close their fingers around the leather wrapped hilt of their mother’s dagger. Rook had stolen it once, as a much smaller child, sneaking out of bed and rifling through their mothers bags to snoop. The dagger had been much to big even for their larger-than-average child body, and they had given it a few clumsy swings before being caught. 

Their father had found them, pretending to fight a stump outside, and had struggled to hide his laughter. Zevran had crouched beside them, wrapped his arms around theirs, and walked them through some simple steps. They had trained for a few minutes, before Zevran took the knife back and carried them back to bed, making them promise to keep this a secret from their mother.

She knew, of course, but she let father and child carry out their late night training wrapped in secrecy. Over breakfast she would whisper corrections to their fathers form and his weaknesses, the two of them laughing when he grew suspicious of their scheming. 

“I know you, you’re Envy.” Rook smiles. “I may be jealous, but not so jealous I’m gonna team up with you!” 

Now Rook grasps the knife with confidence, lunging forward. Fast and true, the way her parents taught her. The knife pierces the crows breast and-

-Rook wakes in a cold sweat. Their head hurts and their mouth tastes like bitter oranges, but they’re back in their bed in the waking world. Out their window they can see the sky lightning as the sun rises, welcoming them home from the Fade.

For a moment they consider curling back up and going back to sleep, but the allure of the morning calls to them. They kick their sheets back and slip out of bed, leaving behind that shifting glade and the bitter sting of envy.

Kicking off the new year content with something surrounding the children of the dragon age origins (+ one Inquisition character) characters in my Worldstate so far:

So, firstly obviously we have Ariadne De Riva who is canonically Rook in my Worldstate. She is the result of a one night stand between Zevran Arainai and a Dalish elf, Ashalla Mahariel after the werewolf situation was sorted (Zevran was heartbroken over his rejection by Amelia Cousland choosing him over Alistair and Ashalla was heartbroken over Tamlen).

She is 21 (I got the maths wrong initially) and was born just after the Blight ended. Given up for adoption in Tevinter and then taken into slavery well…let’s just say she was rescued by a warden Commander from Ferelden where, she was then taken to Antiva and into the crows (with no indirect help what so ever from a familiar crow, definitely not) and basically that’s where she was raised from a child to now.

Then we have Felix Mercar aka Felix Trevelyan. Felix is the adopted son of Dorian Pavus and Percy Trevelyan (one of Inquisitor Anya Trevelyan’s older brothers). Felix is 23, and was taken in by his parents shortly after the events of Inquisition. He was also born a female, but came out aged 13 and his parents helped him figure everything out. He joined the Shadow Dragons much to his father (Dorian) protests.

Thirdly we have Zaria Thorne aka Zaria Aeducan. Zaria is 22 and is the daughter of Owain Aeducan and Heidi Brosca, two forced surface dwarfs who both fought in the battle of Denerim during the Fifth Blight. Zaria joined the wardens, and well took up the name Thorne because that’s what her parents decided to use as alias during the fifth blight after they decided to work together because her dad was a prince of Orzammar and her uncle is literally the king of Orzammar. Therefore making her Orzammar royalty.

Bonus: a glimpse into the future:

I thought I’d make Alistair and Amelia’s kids Duncan and Victoria Theirin imagining what they’d look like in about 15-20 years or so:

Duncan was born after years of his parents trying and is 4 years old at the time of Veilguard. He is the heir to the Ferelden Throne (and he is actually a mage, yeah….it’s a whole thing but more on that at a later date and is the actually the reason why eventually Alistair learns his true maternal parentage).

His little sister Victoria is about 3 months old during Veilguard but she is set to inherit the title of Teyrn (or Teyrna) from her maternal uncle Fergus Cousland.

I’m tempted to make Kieran as a Rook at one point because it’s fun to try and imagine what 21 year old Kieran would look like now.

I'm answering these for my current playthrough, Lorenze Thorne!

🌸Does your Rook have any siblings or close friends they see as such? Where are they during the events of Veilguard?

For Lorenze Thorne, her entire family died many years ago. Both of her parents were Tal-Vashoth who left the Qun and ran south; one of her parents was a saarebas. Her family settled in the Anderfels, pretty far away from any other people or villages. They did farming and they were delighted when Lorenze showed promise with magic; her mage parent taught her to the best of their ability. A random darkspawn attack around the time of 9:41 killed her parents and brother, and left her tainted. Thankfully, some grey wardens happened to be scouting nearby and put her through the Joining. She made some friends while in the wardens (notably: Carver Hawke, Nathaniel Howe, Antoine and Evka, and Sigrun) but she always felt a little bit like an outsider. She loved meeting the Hero of Ferelden, Daria Brosca, and really looked up to and took inspiration from her.

🌱Was Rook involved romantically with anyone before Veilguard? What was their partner like? How did the relationship end?

Lorenze didn't really do relationships like that. She had a lot of casual flings with whichever pretty thing caught her attention but she wasn't really the type to have a full-blown relationship. (She was the butch heart-throb at Weisshaupt for quite some time tho 👀)

🍀Has Rook had any near-death experiences? What went through their mind during what they thought was going to be their final moments?

I would say probably the biggest one was when the darkspawn attacked her family and she got the taint from it. She had tried to defend them as best she could with her undertrained magic, but she knew when her mana ran low and she was exhausted and the darkspawn just kept coming there was no hope left. She had heard stories of what a blight was like; the moment she was on the ground, gasping for breath, staring into her dead brother's darkened eyes, her last thought was that this was going to happen to all the other people in the world and it was her fault for not being strong enough to stop it. She had barely even met any other people in the world due to her family's seclusion, but she didn't want those people to go through the same thing she just went through. Wounds bleeding, her organs shutting down, the taint spreading, and what hurt the most was the thought that she failed (even though she was a teenager and there was no way she could have actually stopped a blight on her own. it wasn't even a real blight)

🌿Does your Rook have any tattoos? What was the moment when they got them like? If they’re a Crow where is their de Riva brand located? What vallaslin do they have/how did they earn it if they’re Dalish?

Lorenze has quite a few tattoos (bc again fuck canon i guess who said qunari cant have tattoos. certainly not the game's own creators years ago.) Almost all of her tattoos are grey warden related; both arms and legs have griffons and shields and all kinds of grey warden symbols. Most of those were gotten after a few rounds too many on fuzzy relaxed nights in Weisshaupt. The one on her back she got while sober, just a few weeks after her joining. The only "personal" tattoo she has is of 3 wheat stalks, right over her heart - a gentle reminder that she carries her parents and brother in her heart always.
