A zine I'm contributing to has me thinking a lot about the Couslands, so I've been drawing Fergus and Oriana a bunch just to really get the feel for what they look like to me, because their in-game models look so much like multiple other NPCs.

Summary:

Youngest child of Teryn Bryce Cousland and Eleanor Cousland. Ronan is one of the few remaining after a treacherous attack that happened on Castle Cousland in Highever, Ferelden orchestrated by Arl Rendon Howe, a man who was once their friend.

First impression: Ronan can be seen as rather cold when first met, he never seems to have his guard down around people unless he knows them but he is incredibly good at taking control of situations, Ronan knows when people are bullshitting him no matter what.

What he is really like: He's a damaged man, he was thrown into a job that he barely even had the skills for after leaving his parents to die after the attack on his home. Ronan in reality struggles a lot but he was lucky enough to have people to support him. Once you get through his defenses he's a gentle and charming man, he only ever truly relaxes when he is with Alistair though.

Hilariously enough Finn isn't my HoF kid. Ciara Tabris never became a Warden, in my mind she was a servant that served a huge rol on ruling Ferelden later on because she had a lot of information.

He is actually Ciara and Ronan Cousland's son (biologically)

Zevran meets him in Origins when he's 3 years old and becomes an integral part of his life, especially as he marries his mother. They do truly love each other as father and son, even if Finn has complicated feelings about it because he can't remember Ronan (he died lol)

My Hero of Ferelden is another elf, my girl Rune Surana. But her and Alistair's daugther Emilia is 9 years old and dealing with her own issues with Ferelden burning and all.

I did think of Finn romancing Lucanis because his mother married Zevran, because the thought of this random elven family having a Rehabilitation Centre for Crows cracks me up.

vampire au!

My OC’s: Vampire AU

Alyss Amell is a late 1700′s French vampire, and just, the sweetest little blood sucker; very polite, never kills her victims. Bitten at age 21 by nomad vampire Duncan to save her from dying of consumption. Pining for years over the pretty red-headed priestess with the beautiful voice who she can’t speak to because she’s always in the church at night and Alyss can’t step on hollowed ground. Leliana catches on eventually and is very endeared to the hopeless undead girl. 

Claira Hawke is Alyss’ human cousin visiting from England but ends up staying when Alyss turns. Always frantically trying to convince the town that her “sickly” cousin is very frail and that’s why she can’t leave the house and also she has tons of allergies like garlic and...crosses (”It’s the metal you see, Mayor Meredith, it just makes her skin hive up, you know, allergies.”). A terrible liar but Leliana helps her keep Alyss a secret.

Ronan Aeducan’s family is the head of a powerful modern-day (but a millennia old) coven but he fakes his own death so he doesn’t have to inherit leadership. Ends up opening a vampire-themed bar to go undercover, the goths of the town love it. He also over-pays a mortal bartender, Nora Brosca to keep his secret and be his daytime task-runner (he refuses to turn her into a vampire despite her repeated requests though). Ronan drinks animal blood since he was a vegetarian before he was a vampire and he sees this as the closest vampiric equivalent. 

Kyung-Jae “Kieran” Tabris is in the same timeline as Ronan and new to being a vampire. Got into a bad fight and could not afford medical care (cough cough guess which “first world” country he lives in) but was saved by century-old Blue Surana who had been walking home that night from the research lab she works nightshifts at. Now he’s greatly frustrated because he thinks being a vampire is so cool but none of his human college classmates believe him (”Look how pale and pretty I am now!” [”you were always pale and pretty..”] “Well look how strong I am!” [”idk you spend a lot of time at the gym dude”] “Ugh, come on! I can’t eat garlic!” [”Yeah well you’re also lactose intolerant :/”] Is invited to work at Ronan Aeducan’s vampire bar once Ronan notices that Kieran is, in fact, an actual vampire.

Blue Surana is the unofficial, unintentional coven leader of the small group of vampires that she’s either met (like Ronan Aeducan and centuries old now-phlebotomist Alyss Amell and her now-vampire wife Leliana) or turned (like Isseya Mahariel). Among others in her found-family is human vampire-hunter Cassian Cousland who she has befriended (or rather, saved, because he’d been nearly killed by a hostile vampire named Rendon Howe) whose family has protected humans from vampires for generations. He’s the first ever Cousland to befriend vampires and keep them a secret from humans and other hunters. This arrangement comes with the understanding and agreement that Blue Surana and her coven vow to not kill any human (human Nora Brosca is not thrilled about the lack of murder: “Oh come ON! Where’s the excitement in being friends with the undead if there isn’t even a littttle murder? As a treat?” [”Nora, no.”])

THE WARDENS

Nichelle Nichols as Damita Surana 

Soft, unassuming, delicate, precise. Her diction is as crisp as her casting. She rarely uses contractions. Her language can verge on being academic, but kind. She is not one for small talk, but does enjoy deep conversations. She has a ringing laugh, but if you surprise her, she snorts and then subsequently blushes. Confident when talking about something she has read about, but awkward when she tries to lie. Her anger is flushed cheeks, tears held back, and muttered words under her breath, too low to hear. Her singing voice is a clear, sweet alto. 

Anne Hathaway as Ciembe Mahariel

Sarcastic, flirtatious, direct, and at times, brash. She speaks with a laugh hanging on the edge of her voice, a shield against the world. Her language is taunting, needling, piercing, yet charming, she voices her thoughts. Her laughter, her true laughter is compared to howling, loud and unabashed. Her lies are coated in sweetness and coy glances. Her anger is hot and violent, swears and curses. Her voice is untrained, the thing of campfires and taverns, singing a wild soprano, full of emotion and lilts. 

Rachel Weisz as Catheryne Cousland

Reserved, diplomatic, educated, distant. Her voice rarely gives away anything, trained early to speak with purpose and intent, only being open with those she trusts. Her words are aristocratic, at times flowery, charm an artifice of her upbringing. Her laughter is gentle, soft, and charming. Lies flow as easily as truths, ruthless and flawless, learned from her mother and tempered by the courts. Her wrath is cold, icy resolve clipping her words. Her singing voice is a mezzo, as at home with sea shanties she learned in her youth to the choral pieces of the chantry, articulated and full of vibrato.  

Daniel Dae Kim as Cathal Tabris

Outspoken, biting, sincere, and direct. His tone of voice leaves no question to his opinion, rough and tinged with a dialect reserved for those raised in Alienages. Kindness and respect is shown only to those he finds deserving. His words are common, coarse, peppered with swears and slang. Cautious at unknowns, but when threatened, he snarks, bold and unfettered. His laughter is harsh and open, true laughter showing on his whole body. His anger is quick, boiling, but quiet, preferring action to words. Lies are obvious, bold-faced, taunting you to call him on it. His singing voice is baritone, softer and sweeter than one would think, but only heard by family and friends.  

THE INQUISITORS

Jameela Jamil as Hela Lavellan

Clever and teasing, shameless and flirty. Tells wild tales, riddled with exaggerated language and out right lies. Will talk for ages of nothing of consequence, arguing the merits of teas and wines and cards and horses. Calmer and more purposeful with her loved ones. Assertive and serious when she has to be, she laughs easy, a bold and inviting sound. Her lies are riddled with half-truths, her manners revealing nothing. Her anger is explosive and destructive, cooling quickly at personal offences, but simmering at racism and slights against her people. She sings with a smile, mezzo, true and baudy.

Tom Hiddleston as Fenrir Lavellan

Educated, extroverted, charming, clever. Will argue to argue, to see all sides to an issue or problem. Loves to ramble on for hours about a given subject. Vindictive and wolfish when threatened, ruthless and cold when others he claims are threatened. His anger burns cold and cruel. Soft-spoken, patient, and kind to the young and in need. Lies flow easy, when used as protection, but more often he deflects, twisting the words. Laughs loud and clear, his whole face lighting up with delight. His singing voice is a light tenor, lilting and full.

Krysten Ritter (a la Jessica Jones) as Astrid Cadash

Dusky, blunt, coarse, clipped. Doesn't like to talk a lot, and even then only if it serves her or is with someone she likes. Direct, questioning, and common. Swears often. Her laugh is short, like a bark, rare. Lies are common, told as often as truths. Her rage is equally cold and calculating, jabs and sneers meaning nothing to her. When cornered, she responds with sarcasm and curses. Her voice is a gravely alto, only heard after several drinks.

Marisha Ray as Sekmet Adaar

Upfront, low, precise, friendly. Speaks when there is a reason to, commanding and controlled. Will share stories and experience, will flirt and tease. Unashamed of her feelings or her opinions. Her laugh is remarkably cute, soft and full, rumbling and from her chest. Lies are foreign to her, a half-truth the best she can do. Her anger is a slow thing, building, until she acts. Her singing voice is pitchy and out-of-tune, she will speak a tune more than sing.

Anthony Mackie as Ronan Trevelyan

Cultured, charming, reckless, and sincere. An extrovert, speaks evenly, but often, laughing fully. A Gentleman Cowboy, jovial and polite. Thoughtful in his comments, kindness his first reaction. Flowery and poetic. His lies are stumbled over, stuttered out. His anger tinged with sadness, protective and hurt. His singing is lulling, a deep baritone, charming and sweet.
