I was so happy to find out that there was a war table operation in Inquisition involving Fergus Cousland.

It's a little disappointing that none of the text changes if the Hero of Ferelden was his sibling, but I was still pleased to see Highever and the Couslands acknowledged outside the Human Noble origin in Origins.

I was even happier to see that it was one of the first war table operations you can do.

When Arl Rendon Howe's forces attacked Castle Cousland and murdered most of the Cousland family, the Hero of Ferelden escaped to safety with Warden-Commander Duncan, who then recruited him into the Order.

A zine I'm contributing to has me thinking a lot about the Couslands, so I've been drawing Fergus and Oriana a bunch just to really get the feel for what they look like to me, because their in-game models look so much like multiple other NPCs.

i’m thinking so much about amethyne from dragon age origins. her mother died at the cousland estate and nobody tells her. she’s always just waiting in denerim.

my cousland would want her to be safe and to be looked after. i think at first she’d consider adopting her alongside alistair, but the life of a warden is dangerous and the life of a monarch of ferelden is no better, particularly for an elven girl.

so i think fergus would take her in. after all, he lost his wife and child at highever, where she lost her mother. he wouldn’t be able to stand a little girl sitting and waiting for a mother who’ll never come home. she can’t be much older than oren had been, and that in particular grips his heart.

does it cause talk, and issues? obviously. the couslands are a powerful family, after all, and taking in an elven orphan is most unorthodox. but ultimately there’s nothing that could change the couslands’ minds.

Does kieran ever meet Fergus? What's thier relationship like?

Yes. They do meet.

I like to think Morrigan and Kieran reunite with Edric after the Inquisitor defeats Corypheus. And Edric ends up taking them to Highever to meet Fergus.

The thing is… Edric has only mentioned Morrigan once to Fergus. So Fergus finds out that Kieran exists once Edric shows up with his family on tow.

Fergus is very happy that Edric has a child because that means the Cousland line lives on. Though technically Kieran is a bastard because Edric and Morrigan aren’t married in the eyes of the law. So that makes Kieran a Cousland by blood, but not by name IF he’s considered a bastard. (I’m not quite sure about how Ferelden deals with children born out of wedlock.) Regardless, Fergus is happy that Edric has a child.

There are a couple of bits and pieces about their relationship that I don’t want to reveal yet because they might come up in mini comics here and there. And I want people to go O: when it pops up. Hahaha.

BUT what I can say is: Fergus adores Kieran. And Kieran loves his uncle. Fergus loves to spoil Kieran haha.

Fergus would have preferred for Kieran to grow up in Highever, but I think Morrigan would like to keep her boy close for now. Maybe when he’s a bit older, Kieran would get to spend some seasons in Highever. :)

Cousland origin where the Warden dies must feel AWFUL for Fergus. Like, you were out in Maker knows where for almost a year, you tried to send messaged to your home just to get nothing back and slowly discover that everyone but your sibling survived. Your parents, your wife and your son are all dead, your home is lost, the land that was rightfully yours is taken and there's not a lot you can do about it.

But you still have one sibling. Who is now one of the grey wardens marching onto denerim, so great, you'll find them again once the battle's over and maybe the loss of your family won't feel as bad

Only for them to go and die while slaying the Archdemon. They saved everyoned, Ferelden gets to live another day because of them, but now you're the only one left alive. You're sibling is a hero, sure but now you have no family left.

Would Fergus be sad, to have lost literally everyone? Angry that they're sibling sacrificed themselved? Guilty thinking he could have done something? Idk I started thinking about this and damn.
