The first issue of Nth Man was published with a cover date of Aug, 1989. John Doe (the Nth Man) was created by Larry Hama and Ron Wagner and he was introduced in Marvel Comics Presents #25 (also with a cover date of Aug, 1989). The mutant ninja was broken free from a Russian jail so he could help the Americans in World War III ("Recall", Nth Man 1#, Marvel Comic Event)

On this day in 1989, Marvel published a new creation by the G.I. Joe team of Larry Hama and Ron Wagner -- Nth Man, the Ultimate Ninja #1! After appearing in Marvel Comics Presents #25, the Nth Man appeared in his own title for 16 issues, which was set in its own continuity outside of the Marvel Universe.
