It’s live and I'm so excited!!! 🗡🔮🗡 Surviving the Shadows (The Bearer of Truth series-book 2) @author.miranda.turner 🗡🔮🗡 Gabriel has been gone longer than predicted, and Evander is growing increasingly worried each day that passes without his return. Confounded by their leaders’ lack of answers, Evander and the team begin to fear the worst. In the midst of fruitlessly searching Miami for clues to the Daemon Abaddon’s whereabouts, Evander begins to have disturbingly vivid dreams. With a little help from a newly returned and empty-handed Michael and Barabbas, Evander discovers Gabriel has been calling out for help across their nascent bond, and they set off to rescue Gabriel from the depths of the Underworld. Gabriel is old friends with torture, and his captors haven’t been gentle. Despite growing weaker every day, Gabriel resolves to survive long enough for rescue, or to die fighting, until a Dark Seer begins to dredge up the terror of Gabriel’s horrific childhood, threatening to destroy his mind and soul. Nearing the end, Gabriel manages a last-ditch effort to contact help, reaching out to Evander in his dreams. Against all odds, Evander and the team fight through the Underworld to reach Gabriel and come face to face with mortality. Sacrifices made for the bonds of brotherhood nearly break them, and Gabriel learns the hard way that embracing the darkness while fighting for the light may be the only way to survive. From the underbelly of Reno to the glitz and glam of Vegas, Gabriel, Evander, and the men they call family will be tested, and the final confrontation with Gabriel’s maker may be the end of everything they hold dear. Surviving the Shadows is an approximately 100,000-word LGBTQ urban fantasy with a romantic subplot. It is a direct sequel to Shadowing the Light and reading the first book in the series is essential to enjoying this one. mybook.to/ShadowingtheLight #lgbt #lgbtq #urbanfantasy #romanticsubplot #mmromance #mmbooks #mmfiction #gay #gaybooks #gayfiction #menlovingmen #foundfamily #angels #demons #gods #readersofinstagram #bookstagram #book2 #thebeareroftruthseries https://www.instagram.com/p/BysWGBagNrr/?igshid=los8thmtk5ws

The Canonicity of GinTae: Pt.3
Pt.1
Pt.2
Pt.4
READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
There are still a lot of hints that we haven't touched on regarding the relationship of Gintama’s power couple, and many many more tip offs from Sorachi that will prove why GinTae has the best potential of becoming canon. In the past posts we’ve chewed over some of the direct hints from the author, including how Gintoki and Tae are always paired off in important arcs, and we've also delved into the details of their relationship, all of which support the argument that GinTae is canon the epitome of a fulfilling and ideal relationship.
In Gintoki x Tae’s relationship, rather than just watching each other's back in high octane combat, (which is the typical way for Sorachi to show off the bonds that have formed between 2 characters,) the quite moments shared between Gintoki and Tae like in Benizakura and Silver Soul demonstrate that there's a special kind of care and intimacy between them. Their relationship is build on more than just battlefield camaraderie; it's grounded by mutual regard, great chemistry and compatibility. Gintoki and Tae have interesting dynamics and clear understanding of each other, they work as a team in raising Shinpachi and Kagura and in protecting their town and everyone in it, and their relationship doesn't only centre around one thing. They regularly spend time together and don't only hang out when it's convenient. They communicate feelings, even shared many small, private moments that no one else will ever know about. Tae heals Gintoki’s wounds, and sees in him what he didn't yet see in himself. In return Gintoki would fight to the death to protect her and everything that's important to her. Being with Tae also benefit his character in a manner that being around other characters doesn't, like unleashing his caring and vulnerable side. Most importantly they love each other to the point where their happiness literally relies on the happiness of the other. Yagyuu, Kintama, Beam Saber, and BFY and many other arcs and episodes have all testify to that.
Now that we have laid down the beauty of GinTae and understand how solid their groundwork is, it's time to dig out the hints that are hidden under Sorachi's narrative pattern. As I've mentioned before, Gintoki and Tae are the only 2 characters that have a harem, so we're gonna compare the characters in their harems and draw a parallel between the details of their characterization.
Many of us have noticed that Sorachi took his cue for GinTae's relationship and development from many of the canon pairings like TatsuAya, HijiMitsu, and Kanshichiro parents. Meanwhile, other ships that have been alluded as being not canon have the same pattern of narrative as well. This gives us an idea of the kind of love story Sorachi prefers to write and take seriously.
So, in Gintoki’s harem we have Ms. Masochist and Ms. Fanservice. Over in Tae's, there's the Pervert Police and Queer Tomboy. Since Kondo is Sacchan’s equivalent, Kyubei is Tsukky’s. Their similar roles in Gin and Tae's lives are even clearly noticeable in SS arc when they reunite with Gintoki and Tae and admit their reasons for joining the war. But that’s not all there is about their similarities, which is why we’re going to dissect the parallels between all these characters and prove that Sorachi didn’t build these harems for romanticsubplots, but rather for the characters to help and learn from each other and their love interests so they can develop and grow as a character. I'll put up a table below so it'll be easier to compare.
ps I still can’t figure out the best way to insert a table but I’ll keep improvising, hopefully this way everyone can see clearly how the characters in both harems mirror and contrast each other perfectly.
Image link for full size
More parallels between Kyubei and Tsukki:
Image link for full size
I mean, this speaks for itself, if anyone was wondering if the above characters were cast in the same mold, the answer is...YES! It is unmistakable that these 4 characters are written for the same purpose, I mean, 2 stalkers and 2 admirers, samurai for Tae and ninja for Gin? If only there had been more clue. Well, now there are! Kondo had been rejected, and Kyubei is friendzoned by Tae. Gin too has expressed his disapproval of Sacchan's attitude towards him and his nonchalance about Tsukuyo's personal life. If that's not enough to determine the girls' chances with him, given the heavy parallels Sorachi designed for the two harems, we know we can look to Kondo and Kyubei’s relationship with Tae to understand how Gin feels about Sacchy and Tsukky.
Add these harem parallels to our pile of evidence-based analysis and you'll see why GinTae is the most logical pairing in Gintama. It even trumps the idea that some of these characters are intended for the MCs due to their 'similar past and design'. It is in plain sight now that Sorachi didn't design parallels to foreshadow a romantic subplot or because two characters belong together. OkiNobu is another example of a pairing that shares a lot of similarities but their potential was dismissed by Sorachi, despite a lot of western fans thinking that they were meant for each other. Nobume may not have develop a crush on Sougo, but on top of having similar design and backstory, they also gave off a considerable amount of sexual tension when they were around each other. All of which meant nothing of course, because theme pairing was a cheap way to write romance and it doesn’t hold a candle to the true companions or the official couple of the series anyway. In my opinion, in OkiNobu’s case at least, Sorachi just meant to explore their characterization in the opposite gender.
No matter how you view it, all these alternative pairings are very different from the kind of romantic relationships that Sorachi has approved of, where typically the girl's role is to keep the guy on the straight path and bring out his soft side, and the guy's role is to make the girl happy, the kind of an ideal and fulfilling relationship like what Gintoki and Tae have. The harems in my opinion are false leads used as a subverted trope, in order to add depth to the characters, and, well... to troll the audience. And now with Kondo and Kyubei having already moved on, it's only a matter of time before we see how their stories foreshadow Sacchan and Tsukuyo's fate in the timeskip. Whatever it is that Sorachi plans for them, how they deal with their feelings would be the only thing that will allow them to move forward.
And on that note, I hope this serves as proofs that none of the rival ships come close to GinTae so we can finally focus on the only pairing that matters. Moving forward...

Writerly Wednesday
I write primarily paranormal mystery and fantasy. In terms of cross-genres, I'm currently working on a paranormal mystery and historical fantasy. And my favorite subgenre to write is romance.
I also have an idea to do a retelling of Gothic horror fiction with a modern-day paranormal twist. 👻
What genres, cross-genres, and subgenres do you write?

Sagging middle syndrome -- the bane of many writers' existence. But I found that this tip has helped me a lot to figure out the direction of my WIP. It was something that I had to figure out for myself but has proven useful to my novel-writing endeavors.
What has helped you to combat sagging middle syndrome?

Book Teaser Thursday
Here is another character aesthetic for FBD. Lydia Walsh-Bradstone is Vivian's surrogate mother. She was born August 26, 1821, is a Virgo and is 69 years old. She took Vivian in when she was 16 and helped to take care of her daughter. She is also a widow as her husband Leonard got sick and passed away, and she was never able to conceive any kids of her own, so she sees Vivian as a daughter. She and Vivian don't always see eye to eye when it comes to life and society, but they still care about each other and see each other as family.

Writerly Wednesday
At the moment, I'm currently sporadic with when creativity hits and when I have time to write. However, I do notice that I do get creative and prefer to write at night. I get too distracted to write during the day and the kids in the apartment are really noisy during the day. Also, the short story that I'm currently writing has been written at nighttime. Literally stayed up till 5 AM writing it. Lol!

Here is a quote from one of the characters of FBD, Aanya Singh. Aanya is Vivian's best friend, a psychic, empath, Libra, shop owner, and a pure soul. She looks at the good, forgets the bad, and sees things through rose-colored lenses. She is one of my favorite characters in the series.

Writerly Wednesday
Past tense or present tense? I prefer to read and write in the past tense. It just feels more natural to me as I find the present tense to be jarring. Back then when I first started writing my first manuscript, I kept bouncing back and forth between past and present tense not paying much attention until my creative writing professor pointed it out. Lol! I hadn't realized the inconsistency and that I needed to be consistent in my tenses. 🤭
