Best of 2022 Movies #13: Scream

25 Years after Reinventing the slasher film in earnest. Scream would do a little reinvention of its own.

With Scream 4 already having done the Rocky Balboa route, this widely reminds us of Creed forging its own path while setting up new ideals for what lies ahead.

Woodsboro 2021, for 25 years Ghostface has been a fixture and when he resurfaces with an eerily similar intro to student Tara Carpenter, her older estranged sister returns to town with her boyfriend.

Through connections to the past and present they learn about deeper connections to the events of 25 years earlier and bring back the golden trio of Sidney, Dewey and Gale in to once again bring down the ghost.

Wes Cravens legacy in name and spirit lives on as commentary’s and ideals about modern cinema are sometimes to cleverly sewn into the fold here.

For never having seen the original, this is indeed the better of the sequels and actually can be considered a true conclusion as lives go on but legends no matter how dark can live forever.

Neve, Dave, and Courtney certainly passed the torch indeed.

SUM 22: 25 Years after giving a new lease to a genre, the franchise gets reborn once more for all to behold.

Fun fact: the guy who voiced Mojo Jojo, Roger L. Jackson, also voiced Ghostface in the Scream movies.

In my head, this makes Mojo Jojo and Ghostface related. Like, at the very least they're cousins.
