I have a goal for Callie, but I'm not quite ready to talk about it just yet. For now, here's a few snippets of conversation.

This bit of dialogue comes from Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion, It is such a lovely and subtle mod as well as one of my favorites. It does a marvelous job of expanding the lines available to the vanilla NPCs.

Stardew Valley Expanded's Morris has such a delightfully awkward way of trying to spend time with a friend, because heaven forfend that he admits he likes Callie's company.

Hey Jean, I think you may be spending a bit too much time with Alecto's ravens... but it did make me giggle almost as much as when she talked about the book deal she got with Gunther.... 😂

Here's the way this is going: I have the most popular characters I'm doing portraits for. But I'm not sure which "extra" characters should have a portrait and which shouldn't. I think I might be working myself for no reason at this point.

Synopsis

But when the glamorous actress quickly charms both Roz’s long-time love and Sheriff Sam, the object of Josie’s unrequited affection, Josie turns to the whispers from her beloved books for ideas on revising the plot. Yet soon there’s another twist . . .

At a party to celebrate the interview, Daphne’s personal chef is found dead in a scene that all too closely echoes one in Roz’s novel. It’s clear to Josie that someone’s idea of a happy ending means framing her friend. She’ll have to read between the lines with the help of the library’s enchanted stacks, guidance from her magical grandmother’s letters, and her cat familiar, Rodney, to solve this murder before someone decides to stage a deadly sequel . . .

My Thoughts

Josie is leaning into her magic learnings, while trying very hard to lean away from her feelings for Sam. Everyone in town can see how she feels. Hell, Sam can probably tell how strong Josie’s feelings for him are. But considering the events of the last book, Josie’s choosing to try to put her feelings on hold for the sake of Sam, and his son, Nicky.

When a famous actress visits the little town of Wilfred with her crew, all sorts of chaos ensues. And I get it. This is exciting. But honestly, the glitz and glamour and whatever femme fatale thing this actress has going on has gotten old for me very, very fast. I am well over it, and not even the murder mystery can really bring this back for me. I just have a really, really low tolerance for the vapid, selfish, spoiled type, which is exactly what this actress is.

While the mysteries themselves weren’t really enticing for me, and with finding the newcomers to town, quite frankly, annoying as well, I was pleasantly surprised by Josie.

Josie’s heartstrings were put through the wringer in this book – and not just because of Sam. Josie’s always come across as very empathetic to those she’s closest to, but this time she really became part of the community. She put her skills as a librarian, and a witch, to the test, and it ultimately worked out in her favour. (Let’s be real, we wouldn’t have much of a series if she didn’t come out on top.)

And while I wasn’t overly fond of the plotline of this book, I really am attached to the library overall, and to Josie’s progress with her magic. I look forward to seeing what comes next.
