On principle, I don't really prefer Cross Fusion as a mainstay, episodic mechanic - Netto already takes up more screentime than Rockman does, and having him be in the lead when it comes to physical fighting just comes across like he's taking over Rockman's role in the show.
However, I do like the concept of it, and I feel like all of my complaints about how it was used are very easily fixable.
Probably my biggest problem with it is that, despite being a fusion mechanic, we don't actually get to see the Operators and Navis working together during it, which is like. the whole point of the series. It comes off more like they're just wearing their Navis' clothes
Which isn't a bad way of setting it up, really, but why are the Operators the only ones in control of their movements? Rockman's voice still comes through with a filter, and he doesn't speak with Netto's mouth, implying that he's just... thinking at him?? Talking through an unidentified intercom in the helmet, maybe??? It's super vague
There's so much you could do with the Navis inhabiting their Operators' bodies, I can't stop thinking about it. Blues being surprised at how fragile Enzan's squishy human body feels, even with the power upgrade. Meiru giving herself a big hug because she and Roll love those.
Rockman tearing up because he never thought he'd get to be in the same world as Netto, and Netto loudly complaining that Rockman's making him look uncool. they start crying twice as hard and Netto refuses to admit that it's because he's emotional about it, too
And even beyond the emotional stuff (or the comedic potential of any bantering), there's some practical things you could consider, too. How strong does the armor actually make them? Would Rockman struggle to use his regular battle strategies now that he has to take Netto's presence into account?
What if there was a cost to using Cross Fusion, like having it wear both of them out quicker? That would definitely add some more stakes to each fight, and make it so that it's not just "business as usual but in the real world." It forces them to think fast and find more efficient ways to deal damage
There's so much potential for character exploration and fight scene creativity with Cross Fusion, and even if I'd rather they stick to the traditional fights more often than not, I would have loved to see them use the ability in more engaging ways
#megaman#rockman.exe#mmbn#megaman battle network#analysis#meta#They might get more creative with it in later episodes to be fair#but the fundamental way it works still needs some tweaks in my opinion#I could probably keep going with ideas for it but this is all I've got for now

Rockman.EXE and Cyber Security.
When you are a Rockman/Megaman Battle Network fan and you take a college course about networking, you start to notice how broken the internet is in the anime. So just for fun, I want to talk about a few things I learn about network security and how it is interpreted in the Megaman Battle Network anime.
1. Firewalls
What are firewalls? In simple terms, it is a security barrier that is placed between a private network and the public network.
They are configured to monitor and filter networking traffic, hackers go through them by figuring out how they are programed, once they do they can either bypass the security undetected or simply disable the firewall.
Lets take a scene from the movie where Lan sends Megaman into a secretary’s console to destroy a program inside a company’s server.
Megaman is running through the network between the console and the firewall, which protects the private network of the company.
Logically, for Megaman to go through the firewall, he is going to need to use his powers as a Net Navigator (Net Navi) to analyze the firewall at an incredible speed to try to find a way to go through it, right?
WRONG! Battle Network logic says you can just break it with brute force!
You see the problem?
Does this mean Navis and battle chips are just as destructive to the net as viruses? Because last time I checked, Viruses and malware are the only programs with the ability to destroy networks.
2. Viruses
Viruses are man made, they are programed with a purpose that’s usually to destroy data files. They can also be used to change and manipulate programs, that’s why you can see evil Navis controlling viruses to do specific jobs for them. Viruses can’t replicate on their own without a user interface, so how is this Moloko a baby?!
There was an undubbed episode of Megaman Axess where Rush meets and befriends a baby Moloko virus, which doesn’t make any sense. Yes, Rush is a virus, and it has been established that viruses can communicate with each other, but why does this Moloko have parents? And why was the group of Molokos it separated from was being herded by other viruses like Trumpy? All I’ve seen Molokos do is charge at megaman when they see him, trying to ram him. Why would someone herd them? For the wool? It disappears after you hit it!
And what even is Rush’s purpose anyway? When he first appeared in the anime, he was made to track down Rockman’s frame or structure when they were trying to revive him with the backup data, but now?
All he does is being a crappy character who runs away when things get dangerous, doesn’t act like a dog anymore, and irritates me because he can move between the cyberworld and the real world! He is selfish, lacy, and practically useless, there are several times where Megaman goes missing and Rush is never even called to track him down, so he doesn’t even have that ability anymore.
On a positive note, viruses can be interesting, I found out that there are different types of viruses. For example.
A Stealth virus is a virus that avoids detection from anti virus software, this means it can conceal itself and attack without being spotted, sounds familiar? In this case the anti-virus software would also include Navis.
A retro virus tries to destroy anti-virus programs, I like to think these apply to viruses who specifically target Navis in battle like Canodumbs and Piranahs since they only attack when they detect an enemy in the line of fire.
Armored Viruses are hard to detect or analyze because they have a protective code, These could be Viruses with armors or auras like the Dominerd or even the life virus.
But Phage viruses remind me of these guys because they rewrite programs.
And I guess this one counts too?
Other viruses just act like malware, like the Alpha bug that is more of a worm than a virus, because it can replicate and travel across networks without any human assistance.
Others are obvious like the Pop up virus which is just Rush, and it is supposed to be adware, but just like Rush, it is more annoying than harmful.
In the anime, killereye viruses are used as spyware, there was an episode were Videoman used them to spy on Rockman and make copies of him.
3. Tracing a signal.
Basically, everything you do on the net leaves bread crumps or cookies behind that makes it easy to track a user online, every device have a Mac Address and every network has an IP address, but it takes a special kind of software and advance skills to track down somebody in the real world.
Let’s talk about episode 32 of Stream.
Remember that episode were Megaman followed a revived Shademan to 20 Years in the past and he witnessed a famous hacking incident that was stopped by Colonel?
Aside from the fact that it was 20 years in the past and Megaman is more advance than most of the technology there, there were a few things bothering me.
For starters, why does that computer show a little Colonel doing something to that guy’s hacking program? It’s cute and all, but this is a confusing way to show someone disabling a program, it usually just shows a notification. Or is that how the computer sees colonel, like a little pixel version of him? XD
That hacking program was made to open any cyber lock, it uses three special pillars to disguise the signal so the police wouldn’t be able to track down the address, this means those pillars have some special form of encryption to cover the data to make it untraceable. In the anime’s world, that means it’s invisible, but somehow Megaman can still sense it? And how did Barryl know where the guy was? Did colonel tell him? Or did the viruses he sent to delete colonel revealed his location? Oops.
4. Hard Drives.
To end this post, what are hard drives? They are what your computer uses to store files, so Navis can obviously be stored in a computer as well. The problem is that they are still sentient inside the computer instead of dormant.
The concept of containing a Navi, yes, Navis have their own jail in this universe, doesn’t really make any sense. We know Navis can sleep, but the Navis we see in cages are still active, and if everything is connected to the internet, how can they not escape?
I’m using this scene with Megaman as an example, when he was arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he was put in a cute little cyber cage.
However, since Megaman is more advance, he wonders if the hard drive of the computer he is stored in is weak against vibrations. What does he mean by that? Physical or cyber vibrations? Does that mean he can control a frequency in that computer’s cyberworld to alter it?
Whatever he did worked, because he left a gap in the cage, but how did he do it without damaging the Hard Drive? The police officer wouldn’t be able to access his files anymore, maybe it was minor file corruption?
And the worst part is that he opened a gateway into the internet, which is still there! I guess Megaman can travel through routers by himself? Maybe that wouldn’t have happen if the officer just disconnected his ethernet cable.
This Network based world is a scary one.

Tickletober Day 5: "I'm Not Ticklish"
(Fandom: Mega Man X/Rockman X
Lee!Zero, Ler!X
Spots: Upper Body
My first ever story with a male Lee lol
Also on AO3)
To be a Maverick Hunter takes a lot.
A lot of courage. A lot of power. A sheer amount of determination only found in the best of Reploids.
It also took a lot of endurance.
Something Zero made sure they had. It wasn't anything big. A jab, occasionally a slap on the armor.
But one top Maverick Hunter, X, had a question on his mind.
How durable was Zero himself?
He knew exactly how to test it.
"You wanna tickle me? Really? Get a load of this guy!" Zero said.
X was really close with Zero. They were always placed on missions together. As they came to find out, they came from rival creators from the start. It was a long relationship between these two.
Because of this, playful fights like what is happening now are common between them, and the other hunters can't seem to get enough of it.
"What are you, 10?"
"I'm serious. I'll bet you won't last two minutes!" X said.
"How much?" Zero asked.
"20 bucks, leave it at that." X replied.
The other hunters surrounding them went into whispers of "ooh" and "he's serious"
"Count me in for 15." Zero said.
The risk was high. If Zero laughs within the next 2 minutes, he; A) Embarrasses himself in front of his peers, and B) Loses a whole 15 bucks.
X knew he was onto something.
Back when Iris was still around, she'd constantly tease Zero about how ticklish he was. X could hear it from the other room.
"H-hey! Stop that!"
"Aww, why are you moving so much? Is the big hunter a little ticklish?"
Oh, X remembered it clearly.
"It's on then, Zero." X shouted.
"It's on, X. I'll just let you know in advance,
I'm. Not. Ticklish."
Another Hunter in the back set a timer, and X was off.
He wiggled his fingers all around Zero's body.
He was barely keeping himself together.
"Come on Zero. Hold out. You've been through worse torture before. Inhale and exhale.
We're at a minute now. He's speeding up. In. Out. Stay strong…
X did a 3 finger jab into Zero's rib area, and started rapidly wiggling them.
Zero jumped and made a quiet giggle.
"Oh, Zero? What was that I heard?" X asked teasingly.
It was over for Zero.
He went even harder on Zero, causing him to burst into laughter
X released Zero from his grasp, only to grab him again to get him in a better position.
"OK! X! I SURRENDER! PLEHEHEASE, NO MORE!"
"Not so durable after all, huh?" X asked
X dug his fingers into Zero's sides.
Oh, the embarrassment. This was quite the lesson for the legendary reploid.
Never get overconfident on your ticklishness.

@shiningsilverarmor / meme
alt!
The new face that has entered the forge is studying the displayed works with a blank expression, his heavily armored arms crossed in front of his chest. The material and the forging method that have been used to create these beautiful and otherworldly weapons is unfamiliar even to him. The air hums with latent energy and everything he sees here feels both ancient and indestructible.
He already has a powerful laser sword to call his own. But it has been proven ineffective against his latest foe. Having to deal with yet another villain on top of other things that bother him up to date has not really been on the top of his to-do list. But, it is as it is.
"My path to go back where I come from is blocked. I was hoping to find an upgrade to my weapon to deal with this issue at hands."
// Classic Zero is a character I still have so, so much love for. He's been always my favorite of the Rockman series, hands-down. Been a big fan of the Rockman X series and writing this had me all Nostalgic TM again. Who knows, maybe I add Zero to my roster some day. I also like Forte & Prometheus. Man, I used to be BIG into the Rockman series.

Devlog 1 - Designing Kero and collecting ideas.
So I think I am at a point to start the Devlog proper. Moving forward everything from here on out should be new production, new ideas, and new work. What better a place to start then with the design of the main character, Kero!
As mentioned before her original design was built entirely as a sprite with no actual reference art. I just started with a mock screenshot and came up with the design seen here.
I didn't really draw anything as I had a pretty good idea to go from right from the beginning of what I wanted. This time, however, because I am planning to be working in the 3rd dimension I felt it was appropriate to test out some designs on paper to model from.
The first one I went for a more detail focused approach based off of Mega Man Zero and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X. This style uses longer limbs that have exaggeration to them in key places such as the head, forearms, hands, and feet.
You may also notice that the original sprite's armor is a bit different than the new concepts. Originally she was going to have a breast plate and more underwear like marking on the suit more reminiscent to Mega Man's design. Since then I have opted for a design more inspired by Protoman and I think it looks better and less goofy than the undies on the outside of the spandex look haha.
While I am indeed happy with how this turned out, after plenty of meditating on it I decided to go ahead and try a different approach that, anatomically, is closer to the proportions of the original sprite.
This design pulls much more from the original sprite but is also HEAVILY inspired by Mega Man Powered Up (Rockman Rockman in Japan) It features a more "chibi" like design with a large head and smaller body with exaggerated proportions.
This design is not only much closer to the original sprite design in terms of body proportions but also has the benefit of a much more stylized look as well as an opportunity for much more exaggerated facial expressions which I believe are important. One of my favorite aspects of games like Wind Waker were the fantastic facial designs.
Overall, I think that the latter will be the design I want to flesh out and work on more for the game and moving forward. Mind you it's still just a sketch even if a colored one.
The next thing on my agenda is to work on some variations of the character. One of the things I am not happy with are her freckles and I would like to re-work them. I also want to mess around with the design of her pupils a bit.
With that said I feel like it's at least a good start design wise and provides plenty of room to expand upon.
I am also working on learning C# through Codecademy for use with Unity and I also need to pick up blender again if my ADHD riddled attention span will allow it.
At the very least I am happy to have gotten something done and I hope you all enjoy the designs.

Rockman Characters as Magireco Units Part 3: Kodama Drift
I jokingly mentioned in last year's Magitober that, since I'd done Magireco builds for the main Fusion trio from Exe, that I would also do one for Starforce's Subaru eventually. Well, a buddy and I were chatting away on Discord a few days ago, and I got inspired to do that now. So I present to you, Exe Rockman characters as Magireco Units Part 3: Starforce Edition!
Staring with the main protagonist again, Subaru. Now, unlike with the Fusion trio, the Starforce characters kinda don't work together often in-series until game three, which I'm handily ignoring on account of... not having actually finished it yet. Whoops. I'm only covering Ryuusei (Subaru) and Harp Note (Misora, AKA the First Hibiki) here, though I might do something with Rogue eventually, because he's fun. (Also anime version Cancer Bubble just screams 'Magirepo unit'.)
Onto stats! First up, Subaru:
Ryuusei no Rockman Element: Light Type: Balance Growth Pattern: Attack/HP Disks: AABBC, one vertical blast and one horizontal
Compared to our previous Rockman, the Hikari twins, Ryuusei's got a bit more armor, and a lot more HP. He's got more of a focus on blocking attacks versus evading them. I've loosely based some of his build here on Yachiyo's, partially since Yachiyo's the default 'does it all' veteran (tanky, high damage, good HP pool, and inherited protection to top it off,) and partially because Yachiyo gives me similar vibes to Subaru's character. For some reason. Depressed and cynical grump who learns to be friendly again through the power of found family, I guess.
Connect: If There's Even a Sliver of a Chance... Attack Up, Blast Up, Damage Cut. A reference to this line Subaru says in game 1.
Magia: Star Fall Damage All Enemies, Attack Up (Allies/2t), Light Attack Up (Allies/2t), Remove Status Ailments (Allies)
So I couldn't think of an actual attack to reference here, so I made one up. I imagine the animation looking similar to Momoko's magia 'Edge of Universe,' and maybe utilizing one of the sword cards. Alternatively, maybe it could look similar to Tanabachi's Doppel?
(Also a very obtuse pun on the 'Heaven's Fall' catastrophe in Aldnoah.Zero because I keep rewatching it I regret nothing)
Second Magia: Star Break
Now, there's actually three Star Force forms (which are activated by the Star Break move in the anime, for those uninitiated,) so I could just pick one like the games did, or... we could use all three. So! Like Theresia, Sana's Doppel, has 2 forms, this one's gonna have one for each Star Force form. Fun!
1st pattern: Atomic Blazer (Fire Leo) Damage All Enemies, Attack Up (Allies/3t), Defense Up (Allies/3t), Chance to Burn (Enemies/2t) 2nd pattern: Magician's Freeze (Ice Pegasus) Damage All Enemies, Attack Up (Allies/3t), Damage Cut (Allies/3t), Chance to Skill Seal (Enemies/2t) 3rd pattern: Elemental Cyclone (Green Dragon) Damage All Enemies, Damage Inflicted Up (Allies/3t), Variable (Self/1t)
I nerfed the last one to allow for Variable. Now, this doesn't really track to the actual in-series attack, but 'elemental' immediately made me think 'variable!' so here we are. Also possibly an homage to Aniyachi.
Once again, I'll deal with SE later. Onto Misora! That's right, I'm doing both of them.
Harp Note Element: Flame Type: Attack Growth Pattern: Attack/Defense Disks: ABBCC, both blasts are vertical
Not quite an honorary Chargius, I've mostly just riffed off of Aimi here. Misora's an attack type here, because she takes No Shit™.
Connect: Raise Your Voice! Damage Up, Chance to Stun, Endure
In the first game, Misora gives the link skill 'Undershirt,' which is effectively Endure. I figure this would track to anybody else she formed a Brotherband with, and what are connects but temporary Brotherbands? (Except I've already made that joke about Soul Unison, crap.) In addition, her 'Pulse Song' attack in-game stuns.
Magia: Shock note Damage Enemies in a Horizontal Line, Damage Up (Allies/2t), Chance to Stun (Enemies/1t), Defense Down (Enemies/2t)
Second Magia: Machine Gun String Damage Enemies in a Horizontal Line, Damage Up (Allies/3t), Chance to Stun (Enemies/1t), Defense Down (Enemies/2t)
I've got some ideas for card art and personal memos and whatnot, but it's late and I'm tired. It'll be tackled later.
#unlike the trio i really wanna do card art and personals and stuff for these two#i love them#if i haven't made it clear enough already subaru's literally my favourite character evr#i love the kiddo#also to said buddy on discord: i wrote them! your turn for vanguard builds >:)#magia record#ryuusei no rockman#megaman starforce#hoshikawa subaru#hibiki misora#harp note#i've made enough bad puns for the day#magireco builds

-megaman: the willy wars
-rockman complete works
-megaman anniversary colleción
-megaman powered up
-megaman legacy collection

2020 Megaman Valentine’s Day Contest - Cat. 1 (Talent) Results!
Thank you to everyone again for your patience! This is getting posted way later than I wanted to. As much as I try to keep it short and sweet, I never do, so bear with my walls of text.
For the talent category this year, the theme was about killing Mega Man with kindness. More specifically, entrants had to create their own original love/Valentine’s-themed Robot Master or equivalent boss character that was created to defeat Mega Man with the power of love! Even though the theme title and concept alluded more to the classic Robot Master character contests, designs for any series were acceptable. But other than one Navi and one Reploid entry, everyone stuck to a Classic-series themed creation. So you were all pretty consistent!
There were a total of 16 entries for this category this year. Thank you all for your participation! It was extremely hard to choose winners for this category, because you all had really clever and creative concepts based off of this theme. So thank you for thinking up such clever and cool characters!!
Also thanks to Reploid 21XX for the coloring book prizes and for some additional insight.
Again, raffle prize winners will be contained in both posts, so keep an eye out between your name and your art. Not all raffle prize winners are contained in this post. I’ll be contacting all winners soon enough, so sit tight! Might be late after work tonight, so don’t panic if you don’t hear from me right after this is posted.
Your category winners and full gallery of entries are right here, after the break:
Category 1 (Talent) - Dr. Wily’s Greatest Creation: Killing Mega Man With Kindness
[Full Talent Gallery]
1.) @mo-sketchbook:
*For coming in 1st, mo-sketchbook has won $100 via Paypal, or a prize of their choice up to that value AND a Rockman 7 Coloring Book.*
First and foremost, I appreciate all the effort you put into covering so many aspects of your creation, from the various design viewpoints, weapon get form for Mega Man, and showing the weapon in action. I really loved all the things you integrated into the design to give off the feeling that it is a love-based character. The “love bug” form, cherub-like Heat/Plug-type facial features, and how you utilized hearts in different ways for his design and powers.
I’m no Keiji Inafune, but I feel like this is a concept he would greenlight, in terms of it following his Robot Master design formula. It doesn’t need to be super detailed or flashy, but still fits the mold very well! The thought of the hearts missing their target and love energy then getting weaker is actually pretty clever, too. Cute, and I wuv it.
2.) @peachycircuits:
*For coming in 2nd, peachy has won $50 via Paypal, or a prize of their choice up to that value AND a Rockman 7 Coloring Book*
As usual, on the technical side of things, your art is one of the more polished and clean entries of the bunch. Combining a couple different aspects - swans as a creature known as a symbol of love, bonded for life like in marriage, and turning that into an inseparable pair of Robot Masters, was a clever way to think about your design, in terms of the theme of this category.
And then echoing that with the iconic Swan Lake, making them ballet dancers, is like taking Tundra Man and Gemini Man’s concept up another notch. Plus, not gonna lie, amused seeing Mega Man getting equipped with a tutu. LOL So even if it’s not as heart-themed as most of the other entries, I totally liked how you thought outside the box a little bit for this.
3.) Komito Amae:
*For coming in 3rd, Komito has won $25 via Paypal, or a prize of their choice up to that value*
I figured a cupid-styled arrow theme would pop up in a bunch of entries, but your Reploid, Beta, here caught my eye. Both in terms of the hearts, arrows and wings incorporated into her armor, and the pretty sweet looking buster that she and X both have equipped.
While I’m not sure how it would play out in the game, I think it would be interesting to suddenly take control of random enemies in a stage, and be able to change perspective as them for a short time, after you have shot them. Whether it would be to take out an enemy horde, or perform a task X can’t that the enemy could, it would be different! Can’t see it quite having the same powerful effect on a Maverick boss, but it’s certainly neat to think about how that could work!
And the rest of the wonderful entries, in alphabetical order by alias:
@autobot-bumblebee:
*Raffle Prize Winner* Dreamwave Comics: Issue 4 Page 15
I’m sorry you didn’t win a cash prize this time! Please don’t take me hostage! I totally loved the creative vintage chocolate factory mascot backstory, along with making your entry like an Ariga-styled character sheet page. Certainly get that retro feel with her clothing design. Her rose blade kinda reminds me of other hand-turned-blade-like-weapon characters, such as Alan Gabriel in the Big O or Ed transmuting one in FMA. Which is always a snazzy transformation for a robot!
@drewblossom:
In all honesty, if I hadn’t placed you in the humor category, I think this would have very likely been somewhere in the top 3 for this category. A cuddly teddy bear with a massive Ariga-Quick Man-sized heart for a chest, extending flailing tube arms, who just wants to hug Mega Man to death is so amusing and awesome of a design. Hugs for everyone!
FluffyFrostyFury:
Your take of heat-seeking arrows and the added high jump powers were certainly a different take compared to the other cupid-styled creations. Definitely would be nice gameplay bonuses when equipped. I like how Mega Man also has the wings sprout out of his head, to mimic Cherub Woman’s pigtails, rather than the usual spot you would assume, on his back.
HealerCharm:
Hahaha, I love how your creation has caused Mega Man to wave the white flag after falling in love...wait, it isn’t White Day, and he should be giving her a gift if it was! XD Her hair tied up into a heart was a creative touch, much like how her dress flows into all those heart shapes. Adorable!
@inanehipsterslang:
Um, can...can I count on you to vote for Bernie this election year?
Remember kids, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, looks don’t matter. Everyone deserves love, even those you consider ‘vermin.’ This was certainly an unexpected take on the theme, and gave me a good laugh, too. ‘Boiling-hot water...with a hint of citrus!’ It burns, but it smells so lemony-fresh!! XD But the two different moves fit together well, to protect and attack.
I like how you still incorporated a heart shape into Rodent Woman’s design with, both in her chest shape and the “nostril” area which is echoed in the Rodent Rover. And also props for giving her the non-armor form, unique compared to other entries.
Mattasaurs:
On the one hand, your design feels so different for a Robot Master, and maybe more Navi-like. But then I get the Astro/Galaxy-type eye vibe, and sort of a Plant Man~ish body with Devil hands feel, and see how it’d fit into Classic. It’s a unique look, and I liked it the more I inspected it. I really do love the idea of the heart bubble entrapping more and more enemies, and the big ol’ group hug ending up bursting their love bubble. It’s a different concept that stood out!
Minnie:
Our Navi of the bunch combined the love bug and cupid design, but your concept changed up the attack to suck out the energy of it’s target. Which almost made me think she should have an arrow-like mosquito nose, to feast on her target that way. XD I liked your wing shield concept and RiCO-styled skirt of hearts. Rock gets some cool shades in his Love Soul/Cross form, and I get the ProtoSoul vibe, with the shield transferring to his arm as well.
@pstart:
Another Heat/Plug-type design Share Man looks cute and sleepy, but is also “clumsy and weak.” His ability is to share body parts, so “the danger is in him sharing his less than ideal parts with his opponents.” It’s a totally neat concept, to see Mega Man lose his buster almost by accident, and now be powerless to stop Share Man. His split color scheme drives home the concept that his parts might not all be his own, and sort of a Frankenstein bot at times. Props to that idea!
While his weapon gives Mega Man the power to make enemies docile and sleepy, I really almost want to see Mega Man get dumb parts of enemies, too! Helmet switched to a Met helmet, Batton wings, a big Suzy eye! It’s now I’ve got your power...but...but what am I supposed to do with it? XD
RetroNinjin:
Unlike most others, your entry pushed the heart theme heavily in her armor design around the entire head and shoulder parts, so I definitely felt the love vibe. The color scheme fits well. Just would have liked to have had seen a little more information about her attack and concept.
RoninApprentice:
Mega Man having a “Wing Man” to set him up is a hilarious and clever idea! I give you kudos for thinking outside the box a bit on your concept and theme here. The shipping chart certainly drives the idea home, too. You still give him a classy/formal look, and keep the wing man aviation origin apparent in his attack style. Certainly a different idea having the heart bowtie transfer to Rock’s helmet in the form change, but it really doesn’t look that bad there, opposed to around his neck like it would be normally.
@star-crossed-swords:
Different from the other cupid concepts, Eros Woman utilizes a Search-Man like targeting system to hit her targets. I like the heart scope addition over her and Rock’s eye when they go into firing mode. You took a different approach to the wing concept compared to others, echoing Cinnamon’s hairstyle in many respects. But it certainly fits with the rest of her design nicely, and looks good for Mega Man’s equipped form.
@star-shaped-soul:
Love that you were able to both include a drawing and your own sprite, to mix in with the weapon equip ones. That is one powerful crush Mega Man has on his enemies now! I feel bad for Crush Man with how big and heavy those snare trap hands of his are. This seems like a Robot Master too cute for Wily to design; more like he stole him and added horrible, cruel hands onto him! This is taking a crush on someone to a whole different level! XD
Yuri Kadry:
When equipped with Cupid Man’s power, I like the visor Mega Man gets. I think this is also a clever use of the weapon, having enemies shot attracted to one another, causing them to collide into each other. Well thought out! Love the original sprite art, and he stands out nicely against the pinks and purples in the background.

Guess who found the (possibly) most ridiculous Megaman article ever. (WARNING: VERY LONG.)
So I was scrolling down Google because I was bored, I have a tendency to type in some of my favorite things onto the search bar and see what comes up, in this case, I typed in something like "megaman x zero" or something, this was like... 5 months ago? Shortly before I started using Tumblr.
Now, this particular article came up after pressing the "more results" button a couple of times, a little bit of context: I'm from Indonesia, so I dunno whether it was just because Google knows where I live that caused the article to show up quickly.
The article was on an Indonesian site called "KINCIR", a site I rarely visited, if I'm being honest, it was called, "7 Karakter Terbaik dari Franchise Mega Man yang Sangat Ikonis", which translates to "7 Iconic Characters from the Mega Man Franchise."
Anyway, I decided to read the article, and hoo boy, this was an amusing read.
Here's a link, I'll be copy-pasting parts of the article and then translating it into English.
(PS: The article was published on the 10th of October last year, and just for the sake of it I'm gonna point out the numerous mistakes the article made, after typing out the translation of each section.)
Trust me, I was cringing all throughout the proccess of reading this.
ORIGINAL:
"Menyambut perilisan game baru Mega Man 11 yang rilis di awal bulan ini, gimana kalau kita sedikit retrospeksi mengenal lagi karakter-karakter ikonis yang ada di waralaba ini? Beberapa karakter tersebut adalah protagonis maupun antagonis yang kita temukan di dalam gamenya. Nuansa dunia futuristik dan karakter robot dengan senjata canggih membuat serial ini memang jadi favorit banyak orang."
TRANSLATION:
"Welcoming the release of Mega Man 11 that will release early this month, what if we did a little retrospective on the iconic characters from this franchise? Some of these characters can be protagonists and/or antagonists that we see in the games, the nuance of a futuristic world and robotic characters with sophisticated weapons makes this series a favorite of many people."
Doesn't seem too far off the mark, until we get into the actual list itself...
ORIGINAL:
1. Mega Man/X
TRANSLATION:
1. Mega Man/X
"The blue character that has become the icon of Mega Man finally recieved the code that changed him into X in one of the greater games in the series, Mega Man ZX, before that, we knew the blue robot as just Mega Man, or Rockman in Japan, he is the face of a franchise that has been popular for 30 years, in almost all of his games, his main ability is being able to shoot balls of energy from his right hand, this has never changed and has made him more well-known, it's only fair that he is used a lot in other games like Smash Bros. and Marvel vs. Capcom."
ISSUES:
-Ahhh, yes, claiming that X and Rock are the same character is surely a great way to start the list!
-"...changed his name to X in one of he greater games in the series, Mega Man ZX.", Apparently the X series doesn't exist, even so, again, X and the original Mega Man are not the same character.
-Minor nitpick here, but according to the article, "his main ability is being able to shoot small balls of energy from his right hand", with no mention whatsoever to his Buster.
ORIGINAL:
2. Zero
TRANSLATION:
2. Zero
"A protagonist who first appeared as a villain is now arguably one of the greatest and coolest characters, his indifferent personality is a compelling part of the story. Although X tries to be friendly towards him, Zero always sees himself as a lone wolf who doesn't need anyone to support him. On several occasions, he is a secondary playable character that players can use, this changes the gameplay to a more "beat-em-up" style because his weapons have a shorter range."
ISSUES:
-This seems more like a miswording, but Zero did not debut as a villain, rather he originated as one, but we were not shown until X4.
-"...he always thinks of himself as a lone wolf who doesn't need anyone to support him." Sigh... Y'know what? Lemme throw in some quotes said by the Maverick Hunter himself.
"You don't need to worry. Even though we are far away, I have a feeling that I've been protected by his power. We'll get through this." -Zero in Xtreme 2, to Iris, referring to X.
"So be it... But that's why we are the best partners... I'll do what you want... Rest for a while. I will handle it, you can count on me. I won't stop! When an enemy appears... I'll terminate it..." -Zero in Mega Man Zero, to X.
...What did you say about him being a lone wolf and not needing any support from others, author?
ORIGINAL:
3. Dr. Light & Dr. Willy
"Sebagai robot, Mega Man diciptakan oleh dua ilmuwan yakni Dr. Light dan Dr. Willy. Pemain akan menemukan Dr. Light sebagai sosok ayah yang mengenalkan Mega Man kepada dunia dan kelihatan tampil sebagai hologram yang membantu Mega Man dalam perjalanannya. Dia menjadi tokoh yang memberikan Mega Man senjata-senjata baru untuk membantu Mega Man menyelesaikan petualangannya.
TRANSLATION:
3. Dr. Light & Dr. Willy
"As a robot, Mega Man was created by two scientists, namely Dr. Light and Dr. Willy. Players will find Dr. Light as a father figure to Mega Man who introduced him to the world and appears as a hologram to help Mega Man on his journey, he gives Mega Man new weapons to help on his adventure.
On the other hand, Dr. Willy is the antagonist of the series and the former assistant of Dr. Light, who became jealous because Light got all the recognition, his jealousy lead him to reprogram Mega Man to help him take over the world. Thankfully, Mega Man was brought back to his original programming by Dr. Light through a back-up system and thwarted Dr. Willy's plans."
ISSUES:
-"Mega Man was created by two scientists, namely Dr. Light and Dr. Willy."
Uhhh...Proto Man much?
-D'you wanna know why I made Willy bold? IT'S BECAUSE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE "WILY", WITH ONE L! THE AUTHOR COULDN'T GET HIS NAME RIGHT! I wouldn't even be mad if it was spelt as "Wiley", given that some official materials spell his name that way.
-"appears as a hologram...he gives new weapons to help Mega Man on his adventure."
Um, nope, sorry, that's X, and he doesn't really give out new weapons, he gives out armor parts.
-"Dr. Willy is the antagonist of the series and the former assistant of Dr. Light."
Again, minor nitpick, but they were colleauges, working together, on the same level.
-"...His jealousy lead him to reprogram Mega Man to help him take over the world."
Quint? What are you doing here? This doesn't happen untill much later!
-"Thankfully, he was brought back to his original programming by Dr. Light through a back-up system-"
Just...no.
ORIGINAL:
4. Shadow
"Selain Zero, tokoh antagonis yang juga jadi baik dan membantu Mega Man dalam petualangannya adalah sosok Shadow atau Shadow Man. Salah satu robot humanoid yang mempunyai kemampuan dan ciri khas seperti ninja ini bisa dimainkan oleh pemain dalam beberapa kesempatan. Dia punya kemampuan unik untuk kebal dari duri dan bisa melemparkan senjata khusus ang membantu Mega Man dan Zero untuk berjalan lebih jauh."
TRANSLATION:
4. Shadow
"Besides Zero, another antagonist that later reformed was Shadow or Shadow Man. A humanoid robot who reseembles and has the characteristics of a ninja who can ocassionally be playable, he has the special ability to be immume to spikes and can throw special weapons that help Mega Man and Zero go further."
ISSUES:
-If you read the article via the link, you should know that the article seems to be talking about Shadow from Command Mission and Shadow Man from Mega Man 3 as if they were the same character, and yet they use a picture of X'S SHADOW ARMOR in the article...oh god.
-How the hell is Shadow OR Shadow Man an antagonist turned good guy?
-They aren't playable, unless the author is talking about the Shadow Armor, even then the Shadow Armor isn't a character.
-"...can throw special weapons that help Mega Man and Zero go further."
Huh?
ORIGINAL:
5. Fenri Lunaedge
TRANSLATION:
5. Fenri Lunaedge
"There are many new characters that change in the Mega Man storyline, this impacts the enemies that are changed in the games occasionally, after the Mega Man universe introduced the Mega Man X storyline, there's a gang of villains known as the Mutos Reploids, one of the most iconic Mutos Reploids is Fenri, who takes the form of a wolf and can manipulate ice, each stage with the nuance of snow is truly memorable if we can find Fenri at the end of the journey."
ISSUES:
-Oh, so the X series does exist, BUT FENRI'S A ZERO CHARACTER!
-"The enemies that are changed in the games occasionally."
Uhhh, if you mean regular bosses, those are changed nearly every game.
-Ever since when were the Mutos Reploids a gang?
-That part around the end...huh?
ORIGINAL:
6. Proto-Man
TRANSLATION:
6. Proto-Man
"Other than X and his younger sister, Roll, Dr. Light also created an exceptionally powerful robot named Proto Man, he was the first robot Dr. Light had ever built, Proto Man is an older brother to Mega Man who supports him in defeating Dr. Wily and has never become an enemy, he instead keeps using his power for good, although he hides in the shadows, he helps X when it's necessary."
ISSUES:
-Author, please understand that Mega Man and X are different characters.
-Roll is not really a younger sister, she was built alongside Rock, technically making her his twin.
-"...has never become an enemy." Break Man would like to talk with you.
ORIGINAL:
7. Omega
TRANSLATION:
7. Omega
"In Mega Man lore, there's a particular creation of Dr. Wily who is extremely dangerous, he is Omega, a Reploid created to make a world ruled by robots. With his great strength and size, Omega has become an important boss in several games like Mega Man 3 and Mega Man ZX. He can also fuse with X and Zero to become an even stronger Reploid that is capable of destroying everything."
ISSUES:
-Omega wasn't created by Dr. Wily, he was already long dead by then, he was created by Dr. Weil.
-Omega didn't even exist in the time of Mega Man 3, let alone be a boss in that game.
-Omega cannot fuse with other Reploids, the article may be referring to the Biometals, but even then, only Model X can fuse with other Biometals, and it is impossible for a 3-Biometal-Fusion if I remember correctly.
Whoever wrote this article must've not actually touched enough lore to make this list, I'm not trying to insult the author, I'm just saying it's very misinformative.
And why have weird choices like Shadow and Fenri Lunaedge? They aren't nearly as iconic as Tron Bonne, Green Biker Dude, Bass, Axl or Lan, have you ever met someone, asked them, "do you know what Mega Man is?" And hear them reply with, "Oh yeah! That video game series with Fenri Lunaedge!"
This list was weird.

End Of Another Time (22XX N)
“Well, well, well, what have we here? The transcode trio huh, ooohhh~ I’m really scared~!” The sentient Another shouted from the top of the behemoth Another, the latter inching closer and closer to the planet.
“Mr.King...” Subaru seethed, changing into his Kizuna armor straight away. He launched himself at the behemoth, ready to blast it. Misora and Gonta were too late to stop him, as he rushed in, head forward.
The digital Dealer chuckled, waving his arm, as the behemoth simply nodded. Another Duo.EXE reared back its fist...
BAM.
A sound barrier shattering punch hit the boy, its weight knocking him back into the ground, his impact forming a crater. Rockman gets back up, changing into Kizuna Mission. He leaped again, and was met with Another Punch.
“You are blinded, aren’t you?” King Clock spoke, grinning a malicious smile. Rockman gave a grunt, changing into Kizuna Party. Using his Ox Buster, he shot himself into the air, ready to punch back.
The punches collide, but Rockman is knocked back once again. He deepens his crater, taking off his Kizuna Wave.
“Subaru, use your full power! It’s okay!” Misora shouted, Gonta holding her back from running to him. He nodded to her response though, shouting out as well. “You’ve got this punk, just let it all out!”
Rockman got up again, War-Rock pulling up his power slider, its current set being at forty eight percent. “Kid, this is looking bad. It’s okay to go wild if you need to. I’m not going to sto-”
“NO!” Rockman shouted, a fully charged buster aimed below him. “I won’t use it! If it didn’t do anything for me before, I don’t need it now! I won’t risk myself or others again!”
“Kid, you could die this time!!!” War Rock shouted unto deaf ears. Rockman ignored him, blasting the ground again, going for another punch. This time however, the colossal beast grabbed him in midair.
“If I had known you would be this irritable, I would’ve revealed myself sooner! Ah, but I have no time for such pleasantries. Take solace in this my dear boy, you will be the first one to go, so you will not have to fear seeing the end of your world!” King Clock taunted, AD.EXE raising his fist, before dropping Rockman into its black hole of a face.
“SUBARU!!!” Misora and Gonta shouted.
~~~
Subaru woke up in a crater. Getting up, he looked at himself, cuts and bruises a plenty. He sighed before hearing an explosion. He turned around to see...
Himself. It was Rockman, rushing to the Dealer base as it explodes. “This is...”
Rockman falls to the ground, fist hitting the ground. Harp Note and Ox Fire comfort him before leaving, the two changing into their human forms.
“Do you think Subaru’ll be okay?” Gonta asked, Misora patting him on the back.
“Just give him some time.” She replied, as the two left the scene.
Rockman separated, becoming Subaru and War Rock from the past. “How are you holding up Kid?” The AM-ian asked, the boy shrugging.
“I wasn’t fast enough War Rock. Even at full speed, I couldn’t save him...” Past Subaru spoke.
“Wait... I remember this, just... from a smaller angle...” Now Subaru spoke.
War Rock began again. “Well, you can’t always be there. It sucks to not be there, but a lot of the time you have to trust others can make the right choice, and realize that its theirs alone.”
“I know that! It’s just... If I can’t save everyone on my own, then what’s the point of having my own strength in this? We’re a fusion after all.” P!Subaru spoke.
War Rock shrugged. “I’ve figured out my place in this. You’re at the steering wheel here kid. You’ll have to learn that for yourself.” The wizard left in a blip, most likely to the insides of the Hunter VG.
N!Subaru let out a sigh, his surroundings changing to a void, blue dots surrounding him. “Did you learn?” A voice spoke up, N!Subaru looking down, to see P!Subaru.
“Y-you can see me now?”
“Did you learn why you’re strength is needed?” P!Subaru spoke.
N!Subaru was about to reply, before stopping. He thought about it, about everything he’s done in his life. He thought about his triumphs and his loses, and everything that’s happened to him somewhere in between. And he replied.
“Yeah. Rockman is... Is a symbol, but he’s a symbol for the idea of Peace, and Love, and Justice, and Hope. But most of all, he’s the symbol of Belief, I like to think. Rockman is a fusion of us, but he’s made of all of us. If we doubt ourselves, we lose our Belief.” N!Subaru put his hand on P!Subaru’s shoulder.
“Beating ourselves up for not being there or being strong enough is just making the enemies jobs easier. So, from now on, I’m not going to be scared. I’ll believe in my strength too.” The crimson of N!Subaru’s eyes drained, the Armor Hand changing from blue to red. N!Subaru put his hand out, P!Subaru grabbing it, followed by another Subaru with a Star Carrier, and yet another Subaru with a Transer.
The Armor Hand shouted, a large beep following.
“TRUE ARMOR UNLOCKED. BEGINNING SUBARU WAVE.”
~~~
Another Duo.EXE approached closer and closer to the planet, WAXA, the Satellite Police, Harp Note, and Ox Fire firing everything they had at it. “None of this is working!” Note shouted, despair growing in her throat.
King Clock could only laugh. “At last, no one left to truly stop me! Earth... You are mine to play wi-” King was stopped, by the sudden eruption of a red laser sprouting forth of AD.EXE’s face.
Everyone stopped to look at it, the beam continuing as a crimson hand reached out to grab the sides, pulling a body out of the face behind itself. A red shaded Rockman, with a green visor stepped out, a smile on his face.
“Subaru?” Misora uttered, a hand going over her mouth.
“TIME OF BELIEF HAS ARRIVED! FOR EVERLASTING HOPE! SUBARU WAVE!!!!!”
“The real battle... Starts here!” Rockman shouted, jumping up to face off against King Clock, for the final time.

The problem with Megaman NT Warrior Axess.
As some of you already know, I finished reviewing the first season of the Rockman.EXE anime aka Megaman Nt Warrior. People have been asking me if I am planning to review the next season of the show that is Axess. The truth is that I have mixed feelings towards Axess because it is very different from the first season. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the show and I know the anime wouldn’t have been successful without Axess. There are a lot of things that I like, but also a lot of things that I don’t like, and if I were to review the episodes in order, it would be best if I got some issues I have with this season out of the way to avoid unnecessary ranting. (Unless you guys like my ranting for some reason)
1. The tone.
I personally like to call Axess the “experimental” season because it feels like it doesn’t even know if it should become a more mature anime or keep the innocent and sometimes goofy nature of the first season. One moment it has some silly situations and funny new characters, and in the next we have our beloved characters going through emotional traumas and being threaten with guns! Not space era guns like the ones the Net Agents had, but real guns. The biggest examples are Enzan and Mariko-sensei. For a kids action show, we get a lot of unnecessary drama, specially between Mariko and her long lost sister who she thought had died many years ago, only to come back and die in front of her twice, or having someone mistake her for Yuriko. I just think they could’ve written something better.
2. Unrecognizable past.
Axess tries to be a little more mature in tone and as a result it completely rewrites the first season like it never happened, at least, not in the way we remember. Changes like the plug-in PETs being replaced by the Advanced PETs that were just starting development in one of the last episodes of the previous season. However, they do mention the N-1 Grand Prix, Netto’s first meeting with Raoul, and the fact that Forte is now walking around in the real world in the former Gospel leader robot body, so that means the first season did happen, but differently? Going back to the tone issue, we get this conflict between Enzan and Blues who becomes corrupted by a Dark Chip that I personally find pretty boring because, one, we already know that Enzan cares about Blues ever since the Pharaohman incident, and two, I don’t care about this “new” Enzan enough to be interested in his life story more than the other characters. (Read the end of my review of episode 55 to see what I mean by new.) If the first season did happen, then why do we need to go into Enzan’s consciousness to see why Blues means so much to him, he didn’t seem to care much before the N-1, did he just forgot? He actually tells Netto after Rockman was deleted that he used to believe that Navis were just data. Some of the events from the first season don’t fit in well with Axess’s storyline making it very confusing.
3. Getting rid of old characters.
Another change was suddenly getting rid of some of the characters in the very first episode. Throughout the first season we follow the adventures of Netto and his group of friends comprised of Meiru, Dekao, Yaito and Tohru, as well as their Net Navis, but in Axess, Dekao suddenly decides to move to Jawaii to train with the Ex-WWW (who I don’t need to remind you that they are bad people) and leaves his little brother Chisao in Japan for some reason. Yaito moves back to Kingland to continue her studies or something, but then what was the point in moving to Japan from England (Kingland before it was a thing) in the first place?. And Tohru.... Well, he is still around, but let’s just say that he is not part of the group as much as before. Speaking of Tohru, Iceman gets a downgrade, he is now viewed more like a small child who hangs around with another small child like character, and less of a competent Navi that is capable of helping Rockman and the others to fight, which becomes very uncomfortable if you are used to his voice from the Dub.
The Net Agents are replaced with the Net Police as they were probably viewed as too silly for the new mature Rockman anime. So Axess sends them abroad with nothing but their space era guns only to return for a couple of episodes, one to remind us of the love triangle between Mariko-sensei, Higure and Masa as Commander Beef, and another just for Rockman to get Wood Soul from Woodman, which replaces the Style change in Axess.
4. Cross Fusion.
A drastic change, however, comes in the form of Cross Fusion. It might be hard to believe, considering all my CF design ideas, but I am not a fan of this concept. My theory is that Cross Fusion is a bold move the writers made to make the show more action like and appealing to young boys. In America, super hero cartoons are very popular, so in order to profit a little from that, the series had to be slightly modified to include more super hero transformation sequences and make the audience relate to Netto by fusing him with Rockman. Because Rockman is a computer program, kids can’t really relate to him, so they passed that torch onto Netto who basically takes over the show as the hero.
I don’t like this because I love Rockman, he is my hero and the main character, I never cared if I could relate to him or not, you relate with Netto as the human who develops a bond with an A.I. program that is loyal, always does the right thing, and does what he can to protect his friends. The whole point of the show is that they are best friends and their bond is what makes them a strong team, but even if Cross Fusion claims to be the result of that bond, it mostly just feels like it’s just Netto wearing Rockman as an armor.
There is also the problem with the action scenes in Cross Fusion. Not only do we get the same formula over and over again in Axess, but the battles are not as good as the ones in the Cyberworld. When you see Rockman fight, he jumps around, evades attacks, delivers punches and kicks when it’s necesary, making his fights entertaining. Netto on the other hand... Doesn’t really know how to fight, he relies more on brute force, the power of his chips, and almost never dodges attacks, the only thing that CF battles have going for them is the amount of damage they bring to the real world.
Anyway, these are just my opinions, but I’ll let you decide whether or not I review the Axess episodes in order, or have me review certain episodes from that or other seasons of Rockman.EXE.

Rockman - Exciting Times in L.A, Ch. III
Chapter 3, the finale of "Exciting Times in L.A," a Mega Man fan fiction story.
No plot holes, here, folks. Just some good-ol'-fashioned forward thinking! Or… something.
Word count: 4,660 – Character count: 26,759 Originally written: June 12nd, 2019
Wily is revealed, but King is still in it to win it! How will Rock and Roll save their creator?
Roll, Rush, Albert W. Wily, Rock/Megaman, Thomas Light, King, Bass, Protoman, Mega Man/Rockman, and related characters and properties created by and © Capcom Co, Ltd.
[ ← Prev. Chapter | Next Chapter → ]
A quick glance revealed to Roll that she was laying in a pile of chairs situated in a staging area of the conference hall. Another look “up” revealed the owner of the voice… Standing at the back of the room was a thin, mean-looking man in a lab coat, black dress-shirt and red tie, blue jeans, and brown loafers. The spiky tufts of gray hair accenting his balding head, the bushy moustache along his lip-line, and the slightly-less-bushy eyebrows were all-too-familiar to Roll… There was no doubt about it… The man standing on-stage, holding that microphone and looking so smug, was exactly who he said he was: Dr. Albert W. Wily!
“Before, my robot was barely able to lay a single hand on that annoying, armored robot. But, now look the pathetic construct! Beaten in two hits!” He paused to cackle… which gave Roll time to get to her feet. “King just got lucky! But, never mind that!” she called over the echoing laughter. After pointing at the mad doctor, she narrowed her eyes and asked, “Where’s Doctor Light?!” “‘Luck’ has nothing to do with it!” he replied, completely ignoring her question. “With my new Double Gear System, not even that pesky Megaman will be able to compete!” “You talk too much!” she snapped. When Wily just laughed at her, she growled and trembled, growing visibly angrier. “Stop laughing at me!” the girl furiously shouted. “Or, what?” She gave a blink of her green eyes. Wily wasn’t laughing, anymore. In fact, he looked pretty intimidating… Well, as intimidating as a stereotypical “evil scientist” could be.
“L-look, just tell me where Doctor Light is!” she demanded with a little less enthusiasm. “And– and, let these people go!” “My dear robot… these people aren’t being held captive. They’re free to go at any time!” “What?” She gave another blink before shouting, “You’re lying!” “No, no, it’s true.” Her attention turned to a nearby man. He was tall, lanky, and while he didn’t look particularly unhealthy… he looked like he’d missed a few meals. In fact, he was almost more of a stereotypical “science guy” than even Wily! That’s how Roll saw him, anyway. “We really are here of our own accord,” another, much rounder scientist told her. “Some of us bolted after his UFO was spotted…” a third person – a female roboticist with brown hair and angular glasses – told Roll. “But, the rest of us stayed behind,” the first scientist finished. The second one started, “Albert may be a criminally-insane… er, criminal–” Wily crossed his arms and gave an audible “Hmph!” from on-stage. “– but, he’s still a scientist and roboticist.” “We really wanted to hear what he’d come all this way to tell us!”
Roll didn’t like what she was hearing… It was hard to believe that so many people had actually put themselves in danger all to satisfy their curiosity. Ultimately, though… that didn’t matter. She still wanted to know one thing, and only one thing: “Where’s Doctor Light?!” “Found him!” “Huh…?”
Roll’s attention turned to her right. Rock had finally caught up and, to her surprise… “Doctor Light!” He was helping the doctor to his feet. “How does it feel, knowing that you were the one who single-handedly put your own creator in danger, little robot?” “Wh– wha’…?” The girl looked back to the stage. Dr. Wily was smirking, again… “Everyone in this room was perfectly content to listen to my brilliant ideas and hear about my magnificent innovations…” he chuckled, “but, when you two showed up, I knew you would try and interrupt me. You always do. So, I sent King II to distract you. If you had simply given up instead of fighting…” The man with the wicked grin gestured to the room. “No one would have gotten hurt! Especially your precious maker!”
Roll looked around… then, she gasped. She hadn’t noticed it until then… but, there were actually a number of scientists who were standing up and brushing themselves off. Some had nasty bumps on the heads while others looked a fair bit worse-off. Even Dr. Light seemed pretty banged-up… and, it didn’t take her long to figure out why. “Wh… when King knocked me into the room…” she quietly worked out, “the… the shockwave must have… A-and, all those chairs… I…” She was almost ready to cry… but, instead… “This is your fault for sicking your dumb guard dog on me!” She got angry, again.
“King II is more than just a ‘guard dog,’ you simple machine!” Wily countered, his smirk curling into a scowl. “King II is the next evolution of robot-kind! Imagine… robots that can be instantly empowered at the-push-of-a-button! They can work even harder… even faster… and, get our work done even more efficiently! And, as was demonstrated with King II… the applications for combat are almost limitless! And, just think…” He flashed another grin. “He’s not even using the full power of the Double Gear System!” “What?” Roll gave another blinked. “What’s that supposed to–” “Double Gear!!” The girl spun around… only to be grabbed and restrained by the robot twice her height.
“L-let go, you weirdo!” she cried as she struggled in his arms. “I’m warning–” Her eyes went wide. She’s heard something crack… loudly. “N-no… s– stop! Please!!” King was crushing her… or, trying to. There was just one thing standing in his way. “Rush!!” All-at-once, she realized… she’d messed up – badly. And, Rush was the one taking the punishment for her mistake.
“That’s it, King II!” Wily pumped his free fist into the air and he barked from the stage, “Crush that robot! Show the power that I’ve given you! Hee hee hee ha haaah!” “Nooooo…!” Roll whimpered, her eyes finally filling with tears. With each passing second, the armor she wore groaned and strained, the metal bending and the cracks becoming more apparent. She was doing everything she could think of to break free, but nothing was working and it was making her panic, again… Eventually, the only thing she could think to do was call out… “H-help me, Rock…!” Unfortunately… Rock was in no position to do anything, himself.
“I… I can’t get a clear shot!” he told her as he tried to aim his fully-charged arm cannon at King II. “I might hit you!” “Powerless in the face of true genius, are we?” Rock flinched, his eyes glancing at the mocking form of Dr. Wily. The villain had hopped off the stage and was walking over to where he and the semi-conscious Dr. Light were. “S-stay back…! Please?” he asked with uncertain politeness. “I… I don’t want to hurt you! I don’t want to hurt anyone…!” “Come now, ‘hero…’” Wily said as he navigated the maze of chairs to get over to the two. “Surely, you can figure out how to fix such a simple problem?” “I… I…” “If you shoot me…” he mocked with half-closed eyes and a grin, “then, all your problems are solved – present and future! If you shoot King II… then, even if you hit your precious little ‘sister,’ she goes free. And, if you stand there, doing nothing…” “Gyaaaaah…!!” “Rock…!!” The doctor’s grin widened. “Then, I win.”
Roll looked on in horror as Rock fired a shot through the ceiling before collapsing to the ground. It sounded like the doctor… zapped him, somehow, and knocked him out… at least, she prayed that was the case… Meanwhile, her own situation was getting worse. Her energy was beginning to drain away – a clear sign that Rush was in no condition to protect her, anymore. Everything hurt and she felt hot… tired… dizzy… and, completely out of options. It seemed like Dr. Wily had finally won… “Albert Wily!” At least… that’s what she thought.
“What?” The doctor grumbled. As he turned around, though, he noticed something… Something that made him chuckle. “Really?” he said with an amused grin. “Yes, really!”
Roll blinked a tired eye. All the other scientists and technicians had fled after King II grabbed her… but, those three from before had stayed and watched everything unfold. What was even more amazing, though… was that the trio of doctors had Wily surrounded and held up by some odd-looking devices of varying designs and, presumably, functionality.
“You three think you can stop me, the world-famous Doctor Wily?” Wily chuckled… then, he burst into laughter! “Please… You three mental midgets couldn’t even inconvenience me with those things!” “Oh, yeah?!” The beanpole scientist aimed at Wily’s face and shouted, “Eat this!” To Roll’s surprise – and, to a lesser extent, her amusement – Wily suddenly found his face covered in what appeared to be… steaming-hot spaghetti?! It even had a meat sauce!
“Hot-hot-hot…!!” The mad scientist cried, hopping in-place as he flailed and dropped the microphone. “Maybe, you should chill out!” the lady-scientist taunted before firing her hand-held device. “Gack…!” Dr. Wily had just gotten the pasta off his face before getting his with a spray of… “Br– breath spray…? Mint-flavored breath spray?! Are you kidding me?!” “Never leave home without it!” the lady said with a long, somewhat-annoying laugh. “You never know who you’ll meet at a science-and-technology expo!” “And, you…!” The remaining scientist – the short, round one – blinked and jolted. Wily’s full attention was directly on him. “Let me guess… Your weapon shoots pea soup or some such nonsense?” “N-no, sir…” The mad scientist blinked as the guy’s “blaster” sprayed a light stream of water at him. “I-it’s my kid’s squirt gun, sir,” the scientist explained. Somehow, Wily almost seemed kind of disappointed… A second later, though… “Gah…!” He was left rubbing his head, angrily glaring at the man who dared to throw a child’s toy at him!
“That’s it! King II!” he called to his minion. “Let go of that broken robot and–” Dr. Wily narrowed his glare at King II. The robot was vibrating… but, didn’t respond. “King II!” he called. “What’s the matter with you?!” “It’s… it’s hot…” Roll groaned, still being held aloft by the larger robot. “It’s too hot…!” “What? Wait… I… forgot to tell him to disengage the Double Gear System, didn’t I?” As if on-cue, King II suddenly dropped his captive, then collapsed behind her. Roll huffed and whimpered, relieved to be free… but, she was still too disoriented to try anything.
“Hmm… I guess I’ll have to work on venting,” Wily mused to himself. “The Double Gear System generates a lot of heat, and–” Dr. Wily paused… then, he looked around. He was still surrounded by the scientist trio. “Oh, enough,” he scoffed. “You couldn’t beat me even if you had real weapons!” “No, but I can!” “What– gyah…!” Without any warning, Roll – who had manually disengaged the Power Adapter – ran up to Wily and… just slapped his still-red face. And, when he looked down at the girl-robot with her hands on her hips and a look of sincere disapproval on her tired, somewhat-red face… it made him feel far more vulnerable than he actually was.
“Say you’re sorry!!” she demanded with a pant. “I… I’m sorry?” he told her, sounding and looking confused. “Say you’re sorry for ruining the expo! Apologize to the scientists!” “I… I’m sorry for ruining your exposition…?” he told the trio – all of which were just as confused as he was. “Now, apologize for hurting Rush, Megaman, and Doctor Light!” He gave a suspicious look as he repeated, “I’m… sorry for hurting Doctor Light?” “Apologize for hurting Rush and Megaman…!” she firmly repeated. Dr. Wily narrowed his eyes… then, he looked away, crossing his arms. “Say it…” Roll ordered in a stricter tone. “No! I don’t want to!” “Say it…” “I don’t want to, and you can’t make me!” “Say it, or so help me…!” Wily whipped his head back and shouted, “The Great Doctor Wily doesn’t apologize to household appliances!” “Fine!” the girl shouted with an angry huff and a childish stomp. “Fine!” was his response as he looked away, again. “Jerk!” “Pest!” “Meanie!” “Insubordinate maid!” “I don’t like you!” “Well, I don’t like you!” “Children.”
Wily, Roll, and the trio of scientists looked to the right side of the room. Dr. Light had gotten to his feet and, even though he looked a little winded, he was casting a disapproving look their way.
“Doctor Light!” Roll cried as she ran past Wily and hugged her creator. “You’re alright!” “Yes, yes, I’m fine…” he sighed and laughed. “Goodness, you’re warm, Roll…” She paused… then, she looked up at the doctor with teary, sad eyes. “That mean old Doctor Wily hurt Rush!” she cried. “He hurt Rock, too, and he took all these nice people prisoner!” “I did not hold these people captive!” Wily countered. He had already walked over to King II and was checking him for damage. Strangely, the trio of scientists who had attacked him seemed to be helping him. “This is all his fault!” Roll continued. “Why can’t he just be a good-guy, like you…?” “Because…” Dr. Wily stood up and adjusted his tie as he looked at the Lights. “Thomas is an idealist. Whereas I, Doctor Wily, focus on practical application!” “You’ll never change, Albert…” Dr. Light said with a sigh and a smile. “Neither will you, Thomas. And, that’s why, when it comes to me… you’ll always be second-rate!”
“Albert isn’t truly ‘evil,’” the bearded doctor told Roll as Dr. Wily shrugged and turned back to his own creation. “He has good ideas and the knowledge to execute them. He simply… uses his skills for his own selfish desires, rather than try and help mankind.” “Mankind doesn’t want my help!” the wild-haired doctor rebutted. “They’ve made that abundantly clear!” “That doesn’t give you the right to hurt and scare people, all-the-time!” Roll interjected. “You know nothing of how the world works! You’re just a robot! A robot child! You came into this world ignorant and naïve, and you’ll continue to be ignorant and naïve until the day you’re decommissioned and replaced by a better, more modern unit!” The girl blinked… then, she stared at her creator with wide eyes. “Y… you’d never do that… would you, Doctor…?” She looked afraid… “That… is the-way-of-the-world, little robot!” Wily said before Dr. Light could respond. “You’ll be replaced by a new version just like I’m going to replace this robot with a new one!” He stood up, again, and adjusted his coat. “King III will succeed where all others have failed! Gyah ha ha haaah!!”
Suddenly, something crashed through the ceiling of the exhibit hall. Once the dust cleared, all those present could see that Dr. Wily’s UFO had appeared and he was already on-board, gripping King II in a claw from the undercarriage. “This has been an… interesting experiment,” Wily called as his UFO made its signature, somewhat-annoying “wooing” noise – turned down so he could be heard, no doubt. “The data from today should prove infinitely useful in my Double Gear System tests. I should thank you, little robot ‘girl…’” “‘Roll!’” she angrily shouted. “My name is ‘Roll,’ and you know it!” The doctor narrowed his eyes… then, cleared his throat before continuing.
“I should thank you… but, you were, after all, just… playing your role in my experiment!” Dr. Wily let loose another cackle… then, he calmed down and settled into his vehicle. “Until next time, Thomas…” As the top half of the UFO slid down… Wily wiggled his eyebrows and grinned. Then… he noisily flew off into the distance, carrying his defeated robot sentinel.
“Albert will never learn…” Dr. Light said after a few moments. “Doctor…?” Roll blinked… The doctor was hugging her a little tighter than before. It was kind of comforting… especially after hearing what Wily had said. Though, all things considered… she would have rather been hugged by– “Rock!!” All-at-once, the robot-girl pulled away from her creator and kneeled down beside her counterpart to check on him.
“He’s… just stunned.” According to the external gauge on his arm, his Life Energy was still mostly full. Flipping to another read-out told her that his brain was rebooting – slowly, but surely – and diagnostics reported an electromagnetic pulse to be the culprit. She sighed, then she looked up at Dr. Light with a relieved smile. “He’ll be out for a while – I’m sure you already knew that, though,” she said with a little giggle. “Oh! But, are you okay…? I… didn’t hurt you when I sent those chairs flying… did I…?” “You didn’t send the chairs flying, per se,” he told the girl with a smile of his own. “That was King’s doing. Regardless, I’ll be alright after I take some headache pills. I could do with a ginger ale, as well…” “Do you want me to get one?” Roll stood up, looking anxious. “I can–” She blinked, pausing as the doctor put his hand on her head. “I can’t believe you tried to fight King…” he sighed. “What were you thinking…?” “I…” The girl looked away. “I guess I wasn’t… B-but, he was just acting like… like a big-fat-jerk! Saying all those things… That wasn’t the King we know!” “Indeed,” Dr. Light said as he stroked the robot-girl’s head. “King II was a completely new construct. He had very little to do with the incarnation roaming the world and helping people-and-robots, alike.” “The real King is waaay nicer!” Roll giggled, again. “I wanna meet him, someday!” “‘Someday,’ for certain… but, for now?” He smiled as he said, “Let’s go home.”
After a trip back to the hotel room to retrieve their luggage, the Light family climbed aboard Dr. Light’s shuttlecraft and they started on their way back to Colorado. Rock had woken up around the time they were lifting off, and Roll was telling him everything that happened after Wily had zapped him with that EMP. “Doctor Light says he’ll run some diagnostics on you when we get home… make sure you aren’t infected with a nasty Wily Virus or something! But…” She hugged his arm and brightly smiled. “You seem fine, to me!” Although Roll was in a very chipper mood as the two sat side-by-side in the rear of the craft… Rock didn’t seem like he was in the mood to smile.
“I let you get hurt…” he said with closed eyes. “I let Rush and Doctor Light get hurt, too… And, all those other scientists…! Some ‘hero’ I am…” “None of that was your fault, Rock…” She offered a comforting smile as she told him, “If anything, it was my fault! I was the one who picked a fight with King II! I… wasn’t expecting him to knock me through a wall, though! Several walls…” The boy finally cracked a grin. Roll was rubbing her head with a closed eye and her tongue out from her grinning mouth. “You did good, Roll…” he told her. “I was really impressed!” Her eyes lit up and she brightly smiled. “Really…?” she asked with excitement. “Until King cheated, anyway!” the brown-haired Light ‘bot playfully added. “Yeah! He did, didn’t he?” Roll huffed, crossing her arms. Then, she paused before looking his way with a frown. “I did, too, though… And… I got Rush hurt.”
The two looked across the way. Rush – who had reverted to his normal form – was laying on the bench, hooked up to a couple of different computers. Aside from a few big cracks in his armor and the banged-up CPU cover on his head, he didn’t really look that damaged… but, the diagnostic tools had announced that there was a bit of damage to his circuitry and that he’d gone into “low-power mode,” the fight completely draining him. It wasn’t anything that couldn’t be fixed… but, Roll still felt absolutely horrible about it.
“Rush was modified for this sort of stuff – just like me,” Rock reassured his sister-unit. “He’s used to getting roughed up…” “B-but, if I’d just been more careful… If I hadn’t let King grab us…!” “It’s okay, Roll…” he told her as she started to get weepy, again. “Really!” “But… but…” “Roll?” She blinked. Rock was giving her a neutral look. “Want a hug…?” Rock softly chuckled, happily hugging his companion as she finally let all the stress of the day out, crying into his chest and tightly holding him. It wasn’t the first time he’d been there for her to cry on and he knew it wouldn’t be the last… but, he was relieved, whenever she did.
Things quickly wound down after the Light family returned to their home. Rock and Roll carried their pet pup into the workshop and Auto promised to do his best to fix him up, “right-as-rain-in-Spain, das!” Roll grabbed some gummy candies on her way to her room, then got changed before meeting Rock in the living area to play some video games. Time really seemed to fly by and, by the time Dr. Light called for bed, they were both pretty tired – especially Roll, who had decided that her repairs could wait. Just before they turned in, however… “Hey, Rock…” “Yeah?” She decided to have one final conversation with him.
He stood from his bed, smiling as Roll stood at his open doorway. They were both wearing matching pajamas – though, hers were pink and his were blue. When she asked if she could enter, he invited her in with no hesitation. The two sat on his bed, then he tilted his head. Roll was staring at the floor, not saying a word… “Um… Roll?” he called after a while. “What’s up?” “I had a lot of fun, today…” she told him, sounding a little shy. “Even fighting King II was a little fun… B-but, I more mean before all that happened.” “Oh?” He smiled as he told her, “I had fun, too! I like spending time with you!” She blushed and asked, “Y-you do…?” “You’re special to me, Roll.” Her blush brightened and she could swear her robotic heart was thumping against her chest. What… was he trying to say? “I love you, lots…” Her eyes widened. And, as she finally looked his way and saw his bright smile… she was sure he was about to say… “You’re my favorite-and-only sister, after all!”
Just like that, the girl stopped blushing… That wasn’t what she was hoping he’d say… but, somehow? “I knew you were gonna say that,” she told him with a somewhat-hollow chuckle and a softer sort of smile. “It’s ‘cause we’re so close!” Rock laughed. “I bet we can even…” He paused, grinning and waiting… “Fi… nish each other’s thoughts?” Roll eventually guessed. When she heard the boy-robot laugh and saw him smile, she couldn’t help but let herself smile, as well. “Love you, too… goofball.”
The two shared a hug that lasted longer than Roll had really expected it to. It seemed like Rock was hugging her a little tight, as well… She was about to ask him what was up, when… “You really scared me, today…” She heard that. “I-I’m sorry…?” She paused… then, her own hug tightened. “I’m sorry…” “Heh, it’s okay. I keep forgetting what a tough girl you are!” he laughed as he sat back and smiled. “But… I just– I’m not sure what I’d do if I ever…” He didn’t seem to want to finish that thought or even look her way, then. He almost looked… guilty…
“I really am sorry I worried you, Rock…” Roll quietly told him. “If we ever get into a dangerous situation, again… you can be my hero… and, I’ll be your damsel-in-distress. Okay?” “What…?” He blinked, then looked her way. “Roll, th-that’s not what I–” He had to blink, again. Roll had pecked him on the cheek. A second later, she stood up, brushed the creases out of her pajama bottoms, and walked to the door only to pause and smile. “G’night… Megaman.” Then, she left the room and headed to her own.
For the longest time, Rock sat there with his hand on his cheek, staring out the door. He couldn’t seem to process what had just happened. But, after several minutes of thinking, something finally hit him. “She… really wants to play the ‘damsel’ role, I guess?” He blushed a little, then rubbed his cheek with a quiet laugh. “She didn’t have to kiss me, though… Gosh…”
After a little more time, Rock turned off his lamp, closed his door to a crack, and crawled into bed, cuddling a spare pillow. He spent a few more minutes thinking about that kiss… thinking about all the kisses Roll had ever given him… He kind of liked it when Roll did that since she always giggled and smiled. But… did he like it? As he thought about it a little harder… he suddenly remembered something that had happened. Something pretty important…
“Where… did Bass go…?”
Rock’s previous train-of-thought derailed, overtaken by the sudden thought that he never paid Bass back for attacking Roll! Where did he go, after that…? Why wasn’t he with Wily…? –––––
“I’m fed up with the old man…”
Somewhere in the commercial district of Los Angeles… high on the rooftop of a tall apartment complex… a boy and his dog were camping out and watching the city, at night.
“‘Light’ this… ‘Megaman’ that… Hey, Doc! I wanna beat that little, blue twerp into the ground more than anyone, but even I need a break, sometimes! Why can’t that bald butt-head just get a hobby, already?” “You’re one to talk…” called a voice. “Isn’t your hobby harassing Megaman?” “Eat me, Proto-Nerd.” The owner of the other voice smirked. Seated atop the roof access of the building was a boy wearing a gray body-suit, big, red, boots and gauntlets, and a red helmet with a white, spear-like insignia over a black visor that looked like sunglasses, and of course… a yellow scarf.
“You know…” the boy in black armor said after taking a sip of his mixed drink, “you’re lucky I don’t kick your ass. You’re actually worse than Megaman! ‘Oh, look at me! I’m a mysterious sometimes-hero who ignores The Big Three!’ Pah! What’d Wily ever see in you?” “Potential, Bass,” the robot-in-red told him. “He saw potential.” Bass shrugged, then he stroked the dozing wolf-dog laying by his side. “Whatever. All I know is that Wily broke the mold when he made me!” “Is that because you’re so ‘awesome?’ Or, because you were a ‘disappointment?’” “Why you–!” He shot a glare at Protoman. Even though the other robot was smirking… the question he’d asked didn’t really feel like an insult. More like… a neutral question with smart undertones.
“You’re lucky I like you…” he sighed before turning back to his drink. “Us ‘Wily ‘bots’ stick together. Right, ‘little bro?’” Bass looked his way, again, and narrowed his eyes. “That was sarcasm, wasn’t it?” He smiled. “Maybe.” “Why’d you even drag me ‘n Treble away from Wily?!” He growled before turning and facing Protoman. “Whaddaya want from us? Whaddaya want from me…?” “I was bored,” was the serious-but-casual answer he got. “Besides… did you really want Wily crying for your help when King II failed to do your job?” Bass thought about it… then, he just huffed and shrugged. “It’s a nice night, in La-La Land…” Protoman started. After sipping his own drink, he added, “Take in the view. Enjoy some time away from ‘the boss.’” “He’s not the boss of me…” the other robot quietly murmured. “I do what I want.” When the robot-in-red didn’t respond, Bass sighed… then, he smirked. “Ya know what I like about you, Red?” “What’s that?” Protoman responded. “You don’t care.” “I do.” He smiled. “But, only when my ‘family’ is in over their heads.” “Guess I can relate…” Bass grinned. “Wily’s always in over his head. Idiot.” The two grinned at each other, then they looked out over the city.
“Thanks, Red… We needed this.”

Everything Just Looks Better On Film, Even Rotoscoped Pixel Animation
The above, which was originally seen over at mendelpalace, hails from 1982 and was produced by Mattel, to advertise the Intellivision on the big screen, which played alongside movie trailers.
The futuristic newscast showcases the games Space Battle, Night Stalker, Utopia, Tron Deadly Discs, Boxing, Tennis, Skiing, and Star Strike, according to the uploader. He also states…
“This is a digital transfer from my personal 35mm film. Compared to other similar videos of this trailer, this is a higher resolution video but the original film stock is a little dirtier and has more wear. This digital transfer has been left in its raw state and no effort has been made to clean it up.”
Man, it’s been a little while since the last game culture wrap-up hasn’t? So long that this wacky Photoshop depicting Governor Chris Christie (courtesy of Kotaku) could be considered old news, but am gonna post it anyway…
I feel silly even commenting on it, but given my interest in video game attire… yes, I know about Atari’s Speakerhat. And yes, we are indeed living in the darkest timeline…
Whereas here we have a photo from back when Atari still did things that mattered…
The libraryandarchivesofplay explains…
“During the 1970s, designers at Atari created a multi-sided arcade game kiosk that allowed people to play up to six different games simultaneously. This undated photograph of an Atari Theater Kiosk depicts one young gamer playing Gran Trak 10 with the steering wheel control, while other children to the left of the image are engaged in a two-player game. The Atari Theater Kiosk was a high-visibility arcade attraction in public locations, such as shopping malls or subway stations.”
Back to the news, I have a new source and it is the Hard Drive section of The Hard Times. It’s hard to pick my fave headline and accompanying story, among such gems as “Climate Scientists Warn That All Super Mario Levels Will Be Underwater by 2025”, “Help! I Can’t Get Past the Part in Dark Souls 3 Where My Wife Threatens to Take the Kids and Go”, and “This Guy Made a Fully Functioning Computer in Minecraft That Blocks @notch on Twitter”.
Though the very best one might have to be “Band Paid in Experience Can Now Perform Spin Attacks, Wear New Armor”…
I also can’t choose which piece from Tino Valentin I like more; this possessed PC Engine…
Or this cheeseburger with a GameCube inside…
Am also rather fond of Pablo Calahorra’s Nintendo papercraft..
It’s a safe bet that most of you have seen Leonardo Gutierrez’s Super Smash Bears by now, but just in case (via it8bit)…
Speaking of Samus, here she is enjoying a glass of wine, courtesy of Sarracenian…
I also can’t stop staring at this Splatoon gif by tanyopo…
Was reminded of the original’s existence, while doing research on a “thing” regarding notable books that cover video game art and culture; here we have a review of CREDIT 00 - I love game graphics, perhaps one of the very first of its kind, originally published in 2004. Oh, also, the review is in German…
youtube
Apparently Batsugun is getting a manga adaptation?! Looks very nice as well (via miki800)…
Hey, Lego versions of the ships from Ikagura (via shmups). Neat!
I thought i had posted this old video mag cover previously, but it was something similar, perhaps similar enough in most circumstances to pass on it. But cuz I’m gaga for Xevious (again via the aforementioned source)…
Exhibit B (from you know who)…
I cannot emphasize enough how big of a deal Xevious was back in the day. The same could also be said of another beloved shmup of mine, Gradius. And on that note, Jeremy Parish’s most recent entry of his most excellent NES Works (formerly known as Good Nintentions… a name that I still prefer, sorry) is all about the game that made me want a Nintendo Entertainment System back in the day, and not Super Mario Bros like for most other kids…
youtube
Speaking of the NES, and returning to the subject of gaming mags, it’s time for yet another one of Classic Gaming Quarterly’s deep dives, and this one might what everyone’s been waiting for: the very first issue of Nintendo Power…
youtube
Spoilers: of all the magazine surveys that Chris Alaimo has done thus far, this was the first and only one that I found myself bored, though it’s not his fault. Cuz, at the end of the day, Nintendo Power was more or less just a vehicle to promote Nintendo and nothing but (obviously), which means we’re not only getting just a one portion of the gaming world circa its publication (never-mind that Nintendo was the only portion at the time, to a certain extent).
So there’s not a whole to talk about, though Chris does what he can, and makes some interesting observations, like the crazy hours the Nintendo Game Counselors had to work and if Sylvester Stallone ever saw how he was portrayed in the NES version of Rambo 3 (and if so, what did he think).
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; god bless old print MSX ads (via mendelpalace once again)…
Recently, gaijira posted an oldie but goodie, which Eric originally shared back in the day, over at GameSetWatch. It’s of the Ika Drive from Invader! Squid Girl...
I still need to watch that show, cuz I still don’t know why the 32X attachment is regularly colored…
What I would do for a full sized version of the following. Which apparently, thus far, doesn’t include me just asking the source, who also apparently took it herself (hey, I’ve bene hella busy)…
Here’s something I saw some time ago, in a Slack channel that I’m a part of, but it was small so I never shared it. But thanks to arcadezen…
lunaticobscurity states “snk please make that tough-looking hair flip girl [from King of Fighters ‘96] a character in kof xv”…
They should also add…
Been on a Jackie Chan kick as of late. Which might have been brought on by the Tekken kick I’ve also been on recently. Surely everyone knows the connection, but in case not (via mysterious0bob)…
When you graduated from high school or college, you probably received a year book, right? Which means you didn’t go to Hudson Soft’s school for video game design. Otherwise, you would have received the following, provided you graduated in 1991…
Hardcore Gaming 101 has the details. Basically, for their final project, students produced a game in which the player walks around the school and interacts with staff plus teachers. It also includes the various assignments that they had to make during class, worked into the “main game”, or so I’m assuming. Alas, details are a bit hazy and there isn’t even any footage, simply a slideshow; apparently technical limitations prevent any video from happening…
youtube
BTW, here’s what the class of 1995’s Graduation Album looks like, courtesy of videogamesdensetsu…
What happens when you machine translate a Famicom game? You get the following; crashcarnival has several other examples handy…
Speaking of the language barrier, I wonder if that’s why I haven’t seen anyone leave a comment on this image by francoisdourlen, regarding the fact that you can’t play Duck Hunt, at least with a NES Zapper, on a flat screen television…
Which piece of Sonic fan art screams “THE 90’S!!!” more; this illustration of the blue blur himself, by piroeoe…
Or this group shot of the “bad boys” (and gal), by paperbeatsscissors…
Though there’s also this official illustration for that cancelled Saturn title, via a sticker set that came with some Austrian freeze pops, via sonicthehedgeblog (note how Sonic is where Shaq’s uniform, back when he was with the Orlando Magic)…
And on that note, it’s been a while since we saw what’s new over at The Most Famous Hedgeblog, right? Recent faves include this tender moment from Sonic’s origin story, via some manga published in 1991…
Robotnik sprouting Wolverine claws in the American comic, early into its run…
Sonic getting on Knuckles’s case in Sonic Advance 2…
Sonic getting down, again somewhere in Australia back in the day…
And Sonic giving Mario a hard time, back when they were frenemies…
Here we have pictures of a pigeon playing Phantasy Star Online, via… who else but… tinypigeonlord…
You know what they say about Doom, right (via gamefreaksnz)…
Remember that video I posted not too long ago, of folks playing Super Mario on a big ass, replica Famicom (plus Super Famicom) controller? Well here it is again, but this time with Mega Man (technically Rockman; via anthony10000000)…
As @NickPopovich states: “Man, this IKEA has got ALL the classics”...
And finally, my new fave PC-98 jam (here’s the previous one, for those who need a refresher; via radicalhelmet)…
youtube
Don’t forget: Attract Mode is now on Medium! There you can subscribe to keep up to date, as well as enjoy some “best of” content you might have missed the first time around, plus be spared of the technical issues that’s starting to overtake Tumblr.
