#Robron fic

Hey since robron wedding 2.0 was so dreamy and perfect, can proposal 3.0 be the romantic, soft lighting, down-on-one-knee ordeal that makes them both cry??

I cannot believe neither of them have at least attempted that yet.

well I mean it's hard to beat

*shoves ringbox in Aaron's face* "THIS! I'M TALKING ABOUT THIS!" "What's that for?"

"For you, you idiot! So I could ask you to marry me!"

*Cashes into a quarry*

and then Aaron flatlining in the hospital the second he says yes.

Or arguing over who gets to propose and who ruined whose plans

BUT

I would like a dreamy romantic proposal for their third time around.

In a perfect world I'd like it to go something like this

Aaron plans it all - maybe with Mack's help (he'd be more than happy to help, he loves shenanigans™).

He'd get Kim on board to have Robert go to a meeting for her in Leeds so he'll be Away From The Village the whole day, and then Aaron texts him halfway through the day to ask if he can pick Seb up from school because he can't get away at work for Reasons. And maybe pick up some shopping on the way too.

So when they finally get back to the village, Rob is kind of annoyed and tired, and then there's Mack with Isaac walking down the street, just a total coincidence of course, and please please please can Seb come over to play Isaac's new game and stay for tea?? And Robert is a total softie so he gives in and Mack promises he'll drop Seb off after tea so Rob won't have to drive out to the farm. But Moira is in on it too and Aaron gave Mack an overnight bag for Seb earlier so he can stay over at casa Coira.

And when Rob comes home the house is dark and quiet and maybe he's in a mood and when the fridge is full when he puts the shopping away, he wishes Aaron was home so he could yell at him a bit for making him stop for stuff they didn't need.

But no Aaron, and he's not answering his phone, so Rob decides to just go shower and change out of his work suit, and hopes Aaron will be home by the time he's done.

Only when he gets out of the shower the comfy clothes he'd laid out on the bed are gone and instead there's one of his nice shirts and a pair of trousers he'd bought because Aaron said they made his arse look good. And he's confused because he's home alone so wtf is going on??

And then he sees a note in Aaron's handwriting telling him to put the clothes on and go downstairs. So he does but when he gets downstairs, there's still nobody there. There is however suddenly something in the oven and the table is set for two with a little electric candle in the middle - and another note on one of the plates.

"tea will be ready in a bit, why don't you get some fresh air to work up an appetite?"

and he notices the door to the garden is open, so he goes outside, but still no Aaron - just another note telling him to go get a drink. So he goes to the pub and there's no Aaron but there is a pint waiting for him and another note telling him to enjoy his pint. And then Cain is there, giving him the keys to the garage because "Aaron left something there earlier" and can Rob pick it up because Cain really needs to Be Somewhere Right Now.

So he finishes his pint and goes to the garage, and when he's outside he hears the radio and figures either Mack or Cain must've forgotten to switch it off when they left. So he goes in but doesn't see anything that could be Aaron's, and figures Aaron probably picked it up himself - only when he goes to turn off the radio, he recognises the song. It's Adele - Make You Feel My Love. And he stays and listens to the song, thinking back to when they danced to that in the street. And when the song is finishes, the DJ says it was a special request for Robert, from your fiancé.

Of course Rob doesn't think anything of it, just nice that this other Robert's fiancé requested a song for him on the radio. And then he sees another note, telling him "I would walk to the ends of the earth for you, but home is far enough for now" And he laughs and locks up and goes home, only suddenly there's Mack who REALLY needs his advice on Something Really Important, and drags him to the pagoda, where he really needs to show him something on his phone.

And it's a video of his and Aaron's second wedding, which cuts off right after they say I do, and changes to Aaron in their kitchen, putting something in the oven and telling him to come home because tea is almost ready.

So he goes home and when he walks through the door, there are candles all over the place and Aaron is just pouring two glasses of wine and wearing the suit Robert loves on him.

They sit down to eat and Aaron insists he just wanted to do something nice for no reason, but Rob stays suspicious and wonders why all the fuss for just a random Tuesday.

And then Aaron gets up to get them dessert and comes back with what seems like two bowls of ice cream. He puts them both down on the table, only there's no ice cream in Rob's bowl, but a little box. And he takes it out and opens it, and there are their original wedding rings. And then Aaron takes the box from him and gets down on one knee and "Robert, will you marry me... again"

And Rob does that half laugh half cry I can't believe this is happening thing and just pulls him up and kisses him and "of course I will" and they spend the rest of the night celebrating in style.

And the next morning they go see Charles to lock down the first available date for their third wedding.

to robert it almost feels like a cruel joke, that just as he managed to tell Aaron his biggest secret, they end up at the bottom of the quarry.

a recent coming out, a serious crash and a lack of sleep are a lot for robert to deal with.

I have never posted a fic anywhere in my life, though I have written quite a few. I've always been too anxious about criticism to put myself out there. But hey, there's a time for everything, right? New year and all that.

I wrote this two-piece in my phone notes right after Liv died, when we thought there was still a chance Robert would turn up. I'll post part one, from Aaron's perspective, below and see how it goes. Please be gentle with me 🙉

Part 1 - Aaron

Aaron is buckling under the weight of it all, the death of his little sister who in a way was almost like his child, the betrayal of his mother against not only himself, but Paddy too. He feels the need to hurt himself building inside, from the soles of his feet to the tips of his fingers. He craves a blade or a match, anything that could outweigh and distract from the pain he feels inside. But even more than that, he craves for someone to hold him, and love him - someone who knows him, and knows just how close he is to drowning in this moment.

But there is no one. Paddy is devastated, ruined by Aaron's mother again, and there is Eve to think about. She is just a small child, and Aaron can't be Paddy's priority right now.

All that mattered to his mother was that her secret be kept hidden, even knowing how Aaron feels about keeping them. And there is no Marco, not anymore. Of course he got fed up with Aaron's inability to make a decision, who wouldn't? One minute Aaron wanted his italian boyfriend to up and move to a rural Yorkshire village, the next day he backtracked and said he'd go back to Milan. Then he'd gone back and forth between the two options at least four more times, when finally Marco had said he was staying in Milan, but strongly hinted that Aaron shouldn't bother coming back.

So here Aaron is, staring at the fresh grave of his little sister, nails digging into the palms of his hands, leaving little crescent moons in their wake and tears burning behind his eyelids. Alone again, because people don't stay with Aaron. Why couldn't someone just stay?

There's a chill in the air, it makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, so he pulls his coat tighter around himself. It's going to be November soon. His heart clenches a bit at the thought of a little boy he used to think of as his own turning 5 in a few days. He hadn't been allowed to stay either.

Something in the atmosphere around him has shifted, Aaron can feel it in his bones. He turns around slowly and looks around, over towards the bridge. A lone figure is standing there, dressed in a long black coat, as if dressed for a funeral. Though for this one, for Liv's, they're a day too late. Aaron blinks harshly, he's cried so much it's hard to see clearly. It can't be, can it? It must be his mind playing tricks on him, he has probably - finally - lost the plot.

His feet start moving none the less, almost making him stumble several times with how fast he's going. The figure has started moving too, the black coat flapping about in the wind, and soon enough they're face to face at the top of the bridge.

'Aaron.'

That voice, the way he says his name. It's been so long since he's heard it. Aaron's knees give out then and he knows he would be nothing more than a heap on the ground if two strong arms hadn't steadied him and gathered him into a tight embrace. Aaron is sobbing now, fingers clinging to the lapels of the coat his ex-husband is wearing.

'Robert?'

His voice comes out wounded and cracked - desperate, even to his own ears. With that one spoken word, he tries to convey everything he wants to say; she's gone, I'm so alone, you're here, I've missed you, please don't leave me. And because he's Robert, he seems to hear everything Aaron can't say, as he always has.

'I know. It's alright, I've got you now.'

Aaron nods and just holds on with all he has.

'Stay,' he quietly whispers into the shoulder of the woolen coat. It smells faintly of citrus, just like he remembers. A hand is stroking across his back in a soothing motion and Aaron melts into it. 'Please, just... don't go.'

'I won't. I promise you, I won't.'

My friend who's watching Interview wants me to start watching the Gilmore Girls. I have tried multiple times and I cannot get into it. I told her that I have read the Gilmore Girls Robron au more times than I can count. She assured me that's not at all the same thing.

Robert Sugden is happy. He's had a great year work wise, he enjoys being single and just started a long Christmas holiday; life is good.

Then he hears disturbing news regarding his family and it's threatening to ruin everything.

In his upset state of mind, Robert does a stupid thing and as a result, ends up in a pretend relationship.

And it's not just the fake dating - there's a huge and weird family to deal with, in addition to his own.

But it's for a reason and it's just for a little while.

They'll get out of it soon enough which is exactly what they want.

Of course it is.

Ao3 down and downloads

K so AO3 has been down apparently for like 17 hours or some but I’ve been reading a fic and I had downloaded it just incase but it’s not fucking working because the download link have archive of our own in the link!!!? I didn’t know they downloads were still connected to their website 😭😭😭 when the site is back up which option am I supposed to choose for downloading??? There’s a few options and I don’t remember what they are but I download then and delete later just incase the author deletes while I’m reading 😭😭 I’ve been binging Robron fics and I’m so sad 😭😭 and thank god I didn’t get a registered account there’s a god damn cyber attack happening rn jfc 💀

This is the last part, from Robert's perspective, but actually still very Aaron focused, as Robert always is. There is no plot per se, basically just Robert's thoughts.

Again, I don't really post fics, this is just something I wrote in my notes after Liv's death aftermath aired, when I had a lot of feelings about stuff, especially Chas' behavior.

I wasn't sure which tw to put in the tags for this, so I chose more over less, just in case.

Part 2 - Robert

Robert isn't stupid, he knows the only reason Aaron lets him even be near him is because Liv's dead, and he is beside himself with grief and lonliness. If that wasn't the case, they would be arguing right now, and placing blame. There would probably be shouting and definitely doors slamming.

But Aaron is more broken now than Robert can ever remember seeing him, and that's saying a lot. He's watched Aaron confess his deepest secret, first to him only and then to a courtroom of strangers, he's seen him trapped in a sinking car, stoned off his head in a prison visiting room. Robert's had to look him in the eye and tell him he'd betrayed him the one way Aaron feared the most. And that's not even all of it, after all that he's watched Aaron let Seb go, and then Robert went and left him too, by getting locked up.

Yeah, Aaron's been broken, but this is more. He wouldn't want Robert here, touching him, holding him, otherwise. He knows this, because he knows Aaron. And because Robert sent him divorce papers in the post like a coward, even though he did it with good intentions. But he'll take it, if it means he can be there for him, make things even a little better.

Robert has learnt in fragments from Aaron what Chas has done, and he wants to throttle her with his bare hands. She wanted to send Aaron away, back to some bloke in Italy, on the day he buried Liv. Just to keep her sordid secret affair hidden from Paddy a little while longer.

Robert knows he isn't in a position to judge her, he's done similar things, probably much worse. The thing is though, she has judged him so harshly over the years, called him scum and far more explicit names, waved her sharp-nailed finger at him to warn him off, slapped him across the face, looked down on him, used other men to try and replace him in Aaron's heart. All in the name of protecting her son, her baby.

Now, that's out the window, because some wooden poser of a bloke has flattered her, sold her a romantic fantasy, made her believe she deserves someone better than Paddy. Now suddenly, it's Aaron who? Again, because she has form.

Her son has a long, painful history of self-harm, she knows this. He's tried to take his life once, contemplated it probably a hundred more times. He's battled with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self loathing, panic attacks, anger issues, you name it. Yet, she would rather send him off on his own to a man she has never met, than have him stay here and risk her secret coming out. Even if that scenario meant she could watch over her child and help him cope, so he doesn't relapse.

Before Robert got sent down, Chas made a promise to him that she would look after Aaron. How could she promise that and then rely on a boyfriend Aaron has known for two minutes, in another country, to be able to take care of him?

Robert loves Aaron more than he's ever loved anyone, but bless him, he can be hard work to get a handle on. It's taken Robert years to read Aaron like he can now, to know what he needs. When to push for more, when to let him be. Because Aaron doesn't just volonteer to talk about stuff. He grunts, he hides, bottles things up, punishes himself and then he explodes on you. When they were only new, after Gordon was sent down, Robert can admit he failed plenty at being a supportive partner. And later too, but they learned how to be better together.

Aaron felt like a freaking science once, and Robert knows what every look, every frown, every shrug of the shoulders mean, now. But it took time and the kind of dedication that only comes from loving someone deeply. This Marco, however infatuated, he would've only known Aaron skin deep. Seeing his scars and understanding them are two very different things. It could have ended in disaster, Robert knows this. Chas should know this.

Robert is broken too at this point, if he wasn't before. There's no denying that. Prison breaks everyone eventually. The more time you serve, the worse off you are. He can't just shake off these four years like they were nothing, they're forever etched in the healed fractures of his bones and the scars on his skin. He's seen things in there he can never unsee, heard screams that still haunt him at night. Done some things to, in the name of survival.

But Robert has always been his best self when he's dedicated himself to being there for Aaron. Aaron redeemed him, and Robert will never forget that. That being said, he knows he can't be strong all the time. He remembers all too well what happened the last times he tried. But for Aaron, he'll keep trying anyway, knows (hopes) that when Aaron is stronger, he'll return the favor.
