I had some free time and tried to figure out a bit more about Old Cybertronian.

First, the alphabet is just a cypher for the English alphabet. Very fun for finding cute hidden messages, but not useful for finding the sounds each letter makes (unless you assume they’re pronounced like their English alphabet counterparts, which I do not).

Most of the examples of spoken Old Cybertronian in the comics is spoken by fluent speakers (like Vos and Cyclonus). As a result, their dialogue isn’t much help for phonetics either. However, we do get a bit of an insight when Cyclonus attempts to teach Tailgate a song. Mispronunciations in the dialogue of new speakers can give an understanding of which sounds a new speaker familiar with the descendant language might not be able to distinguish. These mistakes might mean the sounds of those letters are similar.

The song fragment we see Cyclonus teach can be deciphered as “I’VE GOT MY OWN” (Old Cybertronian doesn’t seem to have an upper and lower case). Tailgate’s first attempt is deciphered as “I’VE GOQMY RWN” (spacing is true to speech bubble). From this, we can see two things: 1) the “T” and “Q” sounds are easily conflated by new speakers, and 2) the “O” and “R” sounds are as well.

The “T” and “Q” conflation doesn’t seem to be that odd to me. In English, they’re both unvoiced aspirates made by blocking the flow of air through the mouth; the main difference is the location of that block (front of the mouth/teeth for “T,” back of the mouth/soft palate for “Q” and “K”). Though we don’t know what it would sound like, from this we can assume Old Cybertronian has at minimum one, likely more, distinct unvoiced aspirates.

“O” and “R” is different. It seems a little unusual for a vowel to be understood as a consonant… UNLESS that vowel is actually the result of a language that places greater emphasis on the voicing (movement of the vocal chords during pronunciation) of the consonant instead of viewing the consonant and vowel as distinct sounds. Perhaps, then, what readers might understand as an “oh” sound (like in “own”) is actually an “rrh” sound with voicing before it.

I think this focus on consonant sounds, their placement in the mouth/throat, and their voiced/unvoiced qualities makes sense for Old Cybertronian. Other examples of the language in the comics that don’t use the Old Cybertronian alphabet are almost always a string of consonants. On top of that, these sounds might be more easily replicated across Cybertronians with significantly different facial structures (lacking lips, animal heads, hollow cheeks, etc) by replacing them with more metallic sounds. Unvoiced, unaspirated stops could be made by tapping parts of the faceplate together. Aspirates are the same with a short burst of ventilation. Certain kinds of voicing could be made by rumbling engines, etc. We know there’s some kind of screeching and groaning involved, we just don’t know where or by what means

I couldn’t easily find more examples of characters learning Old Cybertronian, but if there are more, I’d love to see them! I’d like a larger sample pool to more accurately guess what it might sound like in real life.

So the Cybertronian and human relations were going as well as they could.

Although there were some protests from humans and a few problems here and there everything went as well as it could. It was recently released that Cybertronians could freely explore earth and whatnot if they did not cause destruction…however there was something the government failed to mention and the bots under all circumstances didn’t expect.

Humans will try to fuck anything that they can.

This led to very…. Interesting revelations. No one knows exactly the bot and human that started everything although many have their money on Hot Rod.

Whoever it was it happened like this. A lonely human sick of their species decided to take a chance and a bots curiosity was burning bright which led to the human confirming that they were a robot fucker and the bot realizing that he could probably never fully go back to hard metal digits.

Thus the term “Organicfragger/organicfacer” was coined on one of the many Cybertronian group chats.

Apparently with the widespread public discovery that the two species genitalia was compatible came many expected and unexpected events.

if every character that has a unique characterization in their thought process, or fictional perspective, MUST BE “autistic” or “neurodivergent-coded,” that character is no longer relatable to people who don’t self-diagnose, or identify with, or are not diagnosed with, autism or anything on the neurodivergent spectrum.

I mean honestly I see you guys out here telling me that Mulan is neurodivergent, that ROZ from the Wild Robot is neurodivergent and gee, so is Brightbill, that Hiccup is neurodivergent and Ariel is autistic.

The whole point of characters, especially main characters, especially main characters in children’s media, is to be believable and relatable, on some level. If they’re all ‘special brain-different,’ they’re only relatable to people who accept that label or are given that diagnosis.

AND. It does a huge disservice to the storytelling techniques.

A story is supposed to get under the mental guard of a person. You’re supposed to take your hands off the “thought” wheel and your feet off the “emotion” pedals, and let the story drive your brain and heart to a new place. Or an old place you haven’t been in a while, or were forgetting.

One of the best ways to do that is to create a character that, on the surface, seems special and unrelatable. Like a girl living in the Imperial Dynasty of China, or a literal non-human robot. You can’t, on the surface, relate to them as easily, so you naturally start to think, “what would it be like to be seeing the world through these new eyes?” And then you’ve given up the wheel and pedals of your mind to the movie. You find yourself relating to concepts like motherhood and protectiveness, which the robot character is experiencing, but you’re looking at those concepts through new eyes.

That is why the character is a robot. Not so that she can be an allegory for your “special-undefined-perspective-on-life which is sometimes called neurodivergence.” She’s not a robot for that reason. She’s a robot because a robot character flips the “what would it be like to learn everything over again?” switch in your brain, and then the story can show you it’s focus, (like motherhood and kindness in The Wild Robot) after the switch is flipped.

and it’s flipped for everybody, (“neurodivergent” and “neurotypical”) not just people who identify as the vague term “neurodivergent,” or have been diagnosed as autistic. Stop fitting everything into vague-enough-to-be-claimed, but named-enough-to-be-a-special-identity boxes. You’re ruining the universal, unifying value of it all.

What substance is the cybertronians armor? Is it actually metal or something else?

Mix of solid living metal and tightly packed nets of nanomachines.

If the outer armor is the same color as a cybertronians face plate and hands, then it's proto metal, which is not a solid metal but tightly packed nanomachines functioning similarly to cells. This is what allows cybertronian face plates to move well like a face. It also allows areas made of proto-metal to be much more sensitive to touch compared to the rest of a cybertronian body, which overall has an extremely weak sense of touch. proto-metal is also softer compared to the rest of cybertronian armor, being similar to soft metals like gold or lead, so not super soft by human standards but still more vulnerable than other parts of a bot.

Normal outer plating is mostly made of solid metal with some underlying structures, which I will get into when I finish the cybertronians anatomy post (guys, I promise it's coming, it just requires a lot of extremely detailed art so its taking a while to make), but ya, it's very solid. An easy way to tell if a vehicle is a car or a cybertronian is trying to dent it. A car body has much more give and can be more easily bent than a cybertronian does not. Though, this method of identification is not recommended since you're either going to have a very angry person because you damaged their car or a possibly angry cybertronian because you keep hitting them and possibly damaging their paint. cybertronian also don't crumple like normal modern cars when they crash.

cybertronian do have nonmetal parts and structure, but it's usually all under the outer plating except, I guess, for their optics lenses and the few rare cases of bots having internal padding on the outer side of the frame like prowl having parts of his motorcycle seat on his back. Most things that make up the seats in vehicle mode are kept internal in robot mode and used as padding to protect vital areas. Internal padding is something cybertronian naturally have, but using it to make seating or an interior to a hollow body is very new to earth-stranded bots and much less natural.

Anyways, more details on this will be provided in the upcoming Cybertronians anatomy post, which is coming at some point.

I’m still stuck on colorblind Transformers.

If Cybertronians interpret colors through something similar to human rods/cones or with sensors that pick up on the intensity of red, green, and blue light, then they could probably have colorblindness types similar to humans. So some Cybertronians might have difficulty distinguishing between certain colors, distinguishing between colors, or seeing color at all.

I think it would be fun if their more mechanical nature extended their range of colorblindness. Maybe the color filters (red, green, blue) their processor has to apply when interpreting color are slightly out of line, so things appear as multiple colors at once, or colors shift as their head moves. If they need to send out light first in order to interpret the reflection, would a malfunctioning light impact their color perception? Maybe they can only see on other light wavelengths, so colors look different. Maybe they need both optics to properly perceive color, so damage to one eye means they have difficulty perceiving color. Maybe they can only perceive color in bot mode, but use other sensors when in vehicle mode.

Is the color vision different between forged and cold constructed bots? Does color interpretation change when one becomes a Prime? Does the size of the bot determine the degree to which they depend on color differences? Does alt mode change how bots see color? There are so many possibilities

Anyway, this is a very long way of saying I’m trying to find a plausible way to make Thunderclash colorblind. This would not change his character and would have no impact on the story. I’m just doing it for the love of the game.
