top 5 historical figures to name a cat after?
thanks for the great ask!
Let's see... it's a question of whether it should be purely based on how nice the name sounds or whether these figures should be cat-like in some way...
1. Porcia (CATonis)
I think that a lot of Roman names work great for cats. I went with Porcia because of how universal it is. Are you interested in Roman history? Or just happen to be really into Shakespeare? Porcia CATonis has got you covered!
2. ĂlĂ©onore (Duplay)
okay, hear me out here. Calling a cat ĂlĂ©onore may be a bit awkward, but you could call her Leo for short!
3. Marcus (Brutus/Agrippa/Antony...)
Not to insist on gendering cats' names, but if you want to go for a more traditionally male name, I think Marcus is a good option!
Plus, it can refer to Marcus Junius Brutus, Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa or even Mark Antony (who's by the way incredibly cat-coded, if you ask me!). The list goes on of course, since it seems that you could either be called Gaius or Marcus and that was mostly it.
4. Maximilien (Robespierre)
I know Robespierre was more of a dog person, but Maximilien is just objectively a good name for a cat. You could even go for Meow-ximilien, if you want to be really extra with it. It could potentially lead to some exhausting conversations though.
5. Ămilie (du ChĂątelet)
Look, you probably knew this was coming. A nice sounding name? Check. Feline qualities? Check. What more could you want from a cat name?
BONUS: CATullus. D'uh.

Earlier in the year, I asked a rl friend of mine- @capsulecustoms -who's an exceptionally talented model maker, to make me a Maxolotl!
ISNT HE SO AMAZING?? Hes 3D printed, I love him đ
At the time, there were lots of images going around of Maxolotl, which is why I ended up asking for a rl one~ But was it Janelle who originally came up with this adorable idea I think? đ
I was finally reminded to post photos, since my friend has an account on Tumblr now. The best part about this commish is that I didn't give my friend much to go on (literally just said...."can you draw Maximilien Robespierre as an axolotl?" lol) and yet the figurine came out perfect- and was even given a tiny tricorn hat! Apparently my friend looked at portraits and found one with a hat, so went for it hehe
He looks very similar to my existing Axolotl models, so they all sit together. And I like to imagine my other Axolotls are Maxime's little bodyguards lmao
#I need to get another commish of cat Robespierre I think#that would be great#frev#french revolution#maximilien robespierre#robespierre#maxolotl#frev shitposting

I've recently heard about the book The Gods are Thirsty by Tanith Lee. Is it any good or accurate? Thank you.
Iâd never actually read the book, but seeing as it could be found for free on Internet Archive I went ahead and read the first 100 pages (three chapters). I figured the historical accuracies and inaccuracies presented there might be able to serve as a sample for the whole 500+ pages book. My findings I think are best presented in a bullet list:
First off, there are things that are clearly made up but I suppose rather harmless at the same time. Here we can for example include FrĂ©ron being the one who introduced Camille to Lucile and her family, as well as Robespierre having a dog named Spartan that got run over by a carriage and died in late 1789. We have nothing concreate that stands against these things being possible, but at the same time thereâs nothing suggesting they took place either. Someone who doesnât know that will however be very prone to believe them, which could prove troublesome were they to forget from where theyâve learned it.
Then there are things that, like those listed above, are embellishments, but that I would argue are more problematic, since they actually change, make up or add onto actual peopleâs beliefs and/or actions. Here we for example have a part about Danton arguing that God doesnât exist, when, IRL, there seems to be no hard evidence for Danton being either an atheist or a believer. On the eve of the storming of the Bastille, Camille leaves a note for Lucileâs father, telling him to keep his family safe, when no such note has actually been found. In another part, Camille remembers Lucile telling him that she would prefer to never marry, a sentiment that is hard to find when looking over her conserved texts.
There are some instances of the author injecting historical myths without having bothered to check how well backed up they actually are. For example, after Camille has called for the people to arm themselves on July 12, the onlookers go on to take leaves from the nearby trees in order to distinguish themselves as members of the insurrection. If weâre to believe Camille et Lucile Desmoulins: un rĂȘve de rĂ©publique (2018) this is a detail that first appeared in a heavily embellished biography over Camille, written in 1834. Lee also borrows an anecdote right out of the memoirs of Madame Tussaud, where the artist goes to visit the stormed Bastille, trips on the staircase and is saved by Robespierre. Something which is very unlikely to have taken place seeing as Robespierre was still in Versailles when the Bastille was stormed⊠Still speaking of him, Lee has Camille remember the time when he held a speech to the king and queen in the rain, when the origin of this anecdote doesnât mention any rain.
Then finally, there are blatant historical inaccuracies, like for example HĂ©bert publishing his journalLe PĂšre Duchesne, Robespierre removing the âdeâ in his surname and Camille moving to Rue ThĂȘatre Français already in 1789 (all these three things didnât happen until a year later), Danton being the inventor of the slogan âLibertĂ©, ĂgalitĂ©, FraternitĂ©â (itâs actually Camille and Robespierre that hold the shared responsibility for it), Charlotte Robespierre being in Paris in 1789 and finally, perhaps the straw that broke the camelâs back for me when it came to the authorâs historical research, Saint-Just being there already in 1790.
So is it an accurate book? If the first 100 pages are representative for the entirety of it (and if the synopsis on wikipedia is to believed) then NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Is it a good book? Thatâs entirely up to everyoneâs individual taste. I must admit that the authorâs choice of switching between past and present tense, third person and first person narrator as well as referring to Camille as both âDesmoulinsâ and âWindmills,â together with SJ being called a unicorn and a scene where Danton feeds Camille grapes before they have a threesome with an OC, made me feel increasingly like I was reading a fever dream. So if you have a soft spot for crack fics (even though this isnât actually supposed to be one) Iâd say go for it, especially since the book can be read for free. I would however not advice you to try to learn actual history from it, but then I would probably say the same for most historical fiction.
#thanks for making me read this anon it was so so cursed#also lee has weird nicknames for all her characters?#like danton calls robespierre âroseâ and lafayette âlittle blondieâ???#camille calls robespierre âpetit pierreâ and âmy little catâ#like WHY#brount is called broo and is a tiny dog that camille can hold in his hand#camille tells Danton he should âblow up the jacobins and teach robespierre to suck cowsâ???#ask

Iâd grab Robespierre like the mechanical claw that grabs trash cans on a trash truck and give him a tiny little smooch on the head.

Okay, Glénat's Robespierre comicbook is only a bit less ugly than their Saint-Just (the bar is very low) and they did Eléonore Duplay dirty (but at least I know it's not against her in particular, almost everyone looks bad in these comics) buuuut
THE DUPLAYS HAVE KITTIES?
Oh my supreme being, do they get along with Brount?!!!
#robespierre#eleonore duplay#very disappointed there's no panel with Brount and the cats#do we have a source on the Duplays having cats? I don't think we do#the comic drawer really just decided to add kitties???

If you had told me years ago that meeting a guy on prism and hearing him talk of dead people would've ended with a new special interest and a newfound collection of pigeon figurines I would've probably asked you who the fuck you were and why did you come into my house
#Slepy rambles#Everyday i resemble robespierre even more this is a curse#I'm gonna dye my hair fucking white istf#Anyways the first pigeon of my collection is called Ann (ency)#I thought first to call her marat cause she's an angy pigeon but I'm saving that name for either my cat or a better pigeon#The prettiest pigeon will be awarded with robespierre as a name
