Now I’m deeply considering the implications behind Tyler wanting to cut out RITN and Navigating while Josh hugely advocated for them to be kept in and what it may mean.

The MV opens up with shots of Tyler sleeping uneasily, while the chorus plays, prefacing the song and what it's about. Walking the layout of your own mind as a routine done at night when there is nothing left to distract you and you are faced with your own thoughts and darkness. And as you wander, you stumble across the doors that say STAY OUT, which could either represent the boundaries in his mind that God has set for him to not enter, or ones that Tyler has set for himself- but I think the only way he'd ever set a boundary for himself given his nature is if God influenced him to do so, so its really just the first option.

The VERY notable thing in this first shot is that he's not wearing his paint. He's in his bed, intentionally trying to rest, even if he isn't able to do so fully, and we don't see the obvious symbols of his insecurities with what he creates and his overwhelming feeling of suffocation. This is important. Because then we see the blurry hand of what is assumedly Blurryface, yanking Tyler up into that shot of Tyler then in the walls of his own mind, now wearing his paint as he then goes through the rest of the song.

But then through the rest of the song, it keeps cutting back to Tyler in bed, actually trying to sleep, even though his mind is going nuts. Still intentionally trying to rest, while he stumbles around with Torchbearer (God, specifically, the Holy Spirit) in his mind. And you are SO RIGHT about the whole thinking about intentionally or stumbling into on accident of God in your head. (Read this excellent post by everyone's favorite @artist-issues about Addict With A Pen for more on that point, it slaps)

The rest of the song then goes to show the same thoughts spinning over and over again in a circle. Feeling lonely and isolated, stumbling around your metal landscape as you are faced with yourself and your flesh and terribleness, and being faced with God over and over again- finding Him in your thoughts on purpose and thinking about Him without acknowledging Him, or even trying to avoid Him but God being there anyway. Because He loves you and has chosen you and is waiting for you to chose and accept Him in your struggle.

And then at the end of the song, Tyler is actually woken up, for real this time. By Josh, I assume. And if my assumption is correct, then when he finally does actually wake up out of his own head where he's spinning around with no clear path or purpose, its by the person who draws Tyler closer to God.... if I'm actually right about them and their friendship and how Josh is depicted in the music and it all means what I want it to mean.

But assuming that I am, that's a stellar analogy. By yourself, you almost never, if at all, have the power or ability to stop yourself from a spiral. You need something or someone to help you out. And if here he's showing his Christ-fearing closest friend pulling him out of his own mind to point him back to the Truth and the source of truth- that's incredibly fantastic.

And you know what else being woken up represents when you've been anxiously thinking all night? A CYCLE BREAKING. VERY GOOD STUFF HERE.

something something RITN something something, Torchbearer being in the walls of Clancy's head. Yes the darkness is too, but the beat that keeps the song going is there, because TB holds it together and when you search for hope TB is there and when you don't search for him, TB is still there. Oh and the petals on the desk? Yeah that's remnants of the light you know. something something, i know someone out there *cough* (@sunkissedliterarylightofchrist) *cough* can probably take this and run with it much better than I can. Really tho anyone feel free to add on.

unpopular opinion but i didn't actually like the ritn performance at jimmy fallon :( i feel like they could have performed a much memorable song with more noticeable vocals and everything, like imagine navigating or midwest indigo or next semester, it would have been a much better vocal performance bc ritn is... i dont wanna say bland, but its vocals are pretty plain

like idk i feel like it would have been more exciting if they chose a different song bc you could barely hear tyler, like compared to shy away a few years ago you or even level of concern from outside you know what i mean??
