before I learned how to draw, I used doll divine, which is basically a hub for flash-based dress-up and avatar-maker games. the site is still alive and well and new games--as well as remasters of older flash games--are still posted there on a regular basis. i highly recommend it for making ocs--i used to spend hours on there!

Very Specific Middle Regression Things

These are all pretty particular to me and what I could think of, so feel free to add on your own experiences!

Scrambling up the stairs on all fours like an animal

Seeing what will happen if you balance the light switch between on and off

Making up extremely elaborate stories in your head as you take a shower/bath

Trying out ridiculous makeup riiiight before you wash your face for the night so that way no-one but you sees it

Picking out random things from the refrigerator and seeing what will happen if you cook them together

Recreating your favorite characters on the Rinmarugames Mega Anime Avatar maker (this game is still playable it’s on dolldivine!)

Gathering different soaps and lotions from the bathroom and mixing them together just to see what it will smell like

Inventing personas, getting dressed up to fit the role, and then taking and editing unnecessarily dramatic pictures/videos of yourself

Listening to music and imagining your favorite characters or OCs singing along or starring in an elaborate music video

Coloring in your nails with sharpies or other markers, or drawing “tattoos” on your arms with them

Pretending that you have some kind of rare magical ability and then acting like you have to hide it, vaguely alluding to your “powers” etc

Making up code words for various real or imaginary things in your life and referring to them as such

Let me know if you do any of these things/ have done them as a preteen

Mechtober 2024 Day 12: Concert Steampunk

Alt list today, going with steampunk so I have an excuse to talk about my introduction to steampunk as a concept: the RinmaruGames Steampunk dress up game. I was OBSESSED with it as a kid. Amelia is a short woman with a welcoming aura that seems to surround her. She resembles her son Arthur with her dark brown eyes and matching hair streaked with strands of gray secured in a braided updo. Her dress has a black underskirt and a navy blue overlay, with a matching corset featuring darker blue ruffles. The long black sleeves of the dress poof up at her shoulders, and a beautiful brooch is pinned to the collar of her shirt, matching her earrings.

Synopsis

Amelia is the mother of Arthur Wright and the step-mother of Dick Wells. She first appeared during the additional investigation of Curtain Kill, where she requested the Squad's help putting on a performance to conclude Mr. Alastor's party. She was grateful to have the chance to meet Argo as she had known the detective's mother briefly while the singer was performing in Concordia. Amelia was even more grateful that Argo agreed to be the singer for her show, and as she watched him perform, it felt like watching Moana sing again.

I chose the name Amelia after Amelia Earhart. Whenever I hear Arthru's surname, Wright, I think of the Wright Brothers, who created the first successful airplane. This leads me to think of Amelia Earhart, a famous female pilot, and thus my brain refused to consider other options for names after creating "Amelia Wright''

She can play several instruments and knows the basics of all instruments. If you put an instrument in her hands, she can play it beautifully—or at least something that won't cause your ears to bleed!

She taught Arthur and Dick how to play the violin, piano, and a few other instruments

Amelia is friends with Minerva Highmore. The two often meet for tea and to exchange the latest gossip about Concordia

Her husband gifted her the brooch she wears, while her sons gifted her earrings

So, yesterday i made Python as a human, no it's Vliegende Hollander's turn!

This is Vliegende Hollander, or in english, the Flying Dutchman! Her actual name is Violet Haag and she is Byron's (Baron 1898) mother, which means Gustave Hooghmoed is Baron's father. Violet is a tomboy pirate who likes to sword fight. Ayo, did you know that this pirate is a straight ally? :0

Top 5 "girly" franchises/media?

Every number other than number 1 fluctuates importance to me in my brain. But number 1 is actually my number one.

1. Jem and the holograms. Jem is what the kids call my roman empire in that I wish it went on for 10 seasons and had the transformers experience of countless movies instead of the not-Jem movie we got.

2. The era of girly flash games. Dolldivine, girlsgogames, rinmarugames, but ESPECIALLY Pacthesis's dating sims. Early Nummyz is more camp but Pacthesis legitimately got me into otome games and visual novels. Plus Pacthesis and Nummyz games often had Sapphic options which we love to see.

3. My little pony. In terms of cultural relevancy it will never die but I did get super into gen 4 my little pony to an extreme degree.

4. In a general sense, new cartoons made to sell dolls Ala Monster high. I mourn the loss of gen 1 dc superhero girls every day of my life. And Ever after high. My god, I loved ever after high. The puppet animation w the elaborate Lolita style coords??? Obsessed.

5. There's a lot of shoujo specifically I could point to that was instrumental in my development but though Utena is probably more of a josei I feel like RGU is the /most/ girly? Of anything. It's complicated and visceral and odd, cloaked in retro shoujo styling. It's no wonder it continues to be a reference point for modern anime (sk8 the infinity, witch from mercury) and television (she-ra reboot + Steven universe) because it's so fucking iconic.
