โ ๏ธHOFAS SPOILERS โ ๏ธ
THIS IS ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE LIDIA CERVOS AND HER SCENES โจโจโจ
My favorite scenes in hofas, by far, were all of Lidiaโs scenes!!
SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER!! Like, literally everything about her is perfect โจ the layers, the flaws, how we know she actually did some terrible things, but is now trying to be better, HOW SHEโS A MOTHEEER too!! And her being a mother worked so well with character and everything we knew about her. She was already really complex and that added one more layer and it was just *chefโs kiss*
Her scenes with Ruhn (my favorite) were amazing to me! I liked how Ruhn was mad at her at the beginning and how she just expected him to understand her, but he was reluctant โฆ all of that was necessary in my opinion and it just made their whole arc better. Theyโre my favorite couple in Crescent City and I just want them to happy!!! I could read a whole book about them just living together ๐ญ (with Lidiaโs children too)
NOW LETโS TALK ABOUT LIDIAโS BEST SCENES IN THIS BOOK
- The attack on The Spine and freeing Ruhn, Hunt and Baxian >>>>>>> THIS WAS EVERYTHING!!!!!!! I seriously felt like I was watching a movie. The tension? Amazing. The planning? Excellent. The vibes? Immaculate โจ
Lidia is just so amazing! And seeing her pov on her process to plan the whole thing was everything I needed (and I didnโt know I needed). Her tricking Pollux, making a deal with Queen Irithys, burning the witch, HER TALKING WITH RIGELUS TO GET THE QUEEN!!! HER CARRYING RUHN!!!!!!!! It was awesome. And the way the scene grew to the point she was jumping from that cliff into her deathโฆ
THATโS CINEMA YOU GUYS! CINEMA!!
- My other favorite scene is when she and Ruhn were rescuing her children ๐ฅฒ I loved that whole segment! The way it contrasted with the Lidia from the previous scene, who was so scheming and in control of herself and, by consequence, the situation. I loved how she was a huge mess and couldnโt pull herself together, because we donโt expect people to be calm in a situation like that and liked that she wasnโt. She was very human. I mean, how FERAL she got with Ruhn, that was >>>>>
There is a rawness and an ugliness to that. And itโs so human and so filled with different emotions. The fear for her children, the anger towards Pollux, the anger towards herself for not being able to do more. And there were so many things on the line that day, but she was about to throw everything to hell just so she could save her children. I MEAN, WHEN SHE PULLED THE GUN ON RUHN I WAS SCREAMING (in a good way)
AND THE WAY IT ENDED WITH HER BURNING POLLUX???? CINEMAAAA
Thanks Sarah for making Lidia ๐คง

A Tool of Creation
CC3 spoiler. You have been warned.
In acomaf we learn that book of breathings was made to control the cauldron.
โWhen the Cauldron was made,โ the carver interrupted, โits dark maker used the last of the molten ore to forge a book. The Book of Breathings. In it, written between the carved words, are the spells to negate the Cauldronโs powerโor control it wholly. But after the War, it was split into two pieces. One went to the Fae, one to the six human queens. It was part of the Treaty, purely symbolic, as the Cauldron had been lost for millennia and considered mere myth. The Book was believed harmless, because like calls to likeโand only that which was Made can speak those spells and summon its power. No creature born of the earth may wield it, so the High Lords and humans dismissed it as little more than a historical heirloom, but if the Book were in the hands of something reforged โฆ You would have to test such a theory, of courseโbut โฆ it might be possible.โ (acomaf)
So...only made can use its magic.
Made = Feyre , Nesta and Elain
And later in the book we learn that the book is written in Holy TongueโLeshon Hakodesh.
She stared and stared at the Bookโas if it were a ghost, as if it were a miracleโand said, โIt is the Leshon Hakodesh. The Holy Tongue.โ Those quicksilver eyes shifted to Rhysand, and I realized sheโd understood, too, why sheโd gone. Rhysand said, โI heard a legend that it was written in a tongue of mighty beings who feared the Cauldronโs power and made the Book to combat it. Mighty beings who were here โฆ and then vanished. You are the only one who can uncode it.โ (acomaf)
Might beings: Daglan/Asteri
And this is confirmed in Hofas.
Amren turned to Rhysand and said in that new, strange languageโtheir language: โThe glowing letters inked on her back โฆ theyโre the same as those in the Book of Breathings.โ (hofas)
Bryce's tattoo is in the holy language.
And later in hofas Rigelus says that it was his people's language.
โI can teach you things youโve never even dreamed of,โ Rigelus promised. โThe language inked on your backโit is our language. From our home world. I can teach you how to wield it. Any world might be open to you, Bryce Quinlan. Name the world, and it shall be yours.โ(hofas)
So the book of breathings can control cauldron and it can "open any world" to who can wield it.
Also in Hofas we learn that Asteri corrupted the Cauldron.
The Cauldron was of our world, our heritage. But upon arriving here, the Daglan captured it and used their powers to warp it. To turn it from what it had been into something deadlier. No longer just a tool of creation, but of destruction. And the horrors it produced โฆ those, too, my parents would turn to their advantage.(hofas)
So asteri turned it from tool of creation to tool of destruction.
Once upon a time...cauldron was good.
Can we use Book Of Breathings to uncorrupt the Cauldron? To bring it back to its natural "tool of creation" state?
In Hoeab we learn that the book of breathings is in crescent city. In jesiba's library.
Micah loomed over her. She stretched her arm outโtoward the shelf. Her tingling fingers brushed over the titles. On the Divine Number; The Walking Dead; The Book of Breathings; The Queen with Many Faces โฆ
Do we need to get book of breathings from crescent city? Is the crossover not over yet? Are IC going to think with bryce having the language of book of breathings tattooed to her body she might have had access to book of breathings at some point? Are we going back to cc in the next acotar book?
Also it is a great time to add that Cauldron is obsessed with Elain.
โYou stole from the Cauldron,โ I said to Nesta, who seemed ready to jump between all of us and Elain. โBut what if the Cauldron gave something to Elain?โ (acowar)
The Cauldron purred in Elainโs presence as the King of Hybern slumped to his knees, clawing at the knife jutting through his throat. Elain backed away a step (Acowar)
The Cauldron seemed to realize what sheโd done, too, as his head thumped onto the mossy ground. That Elain โฆ Elain had defended this thief. Elain, who it had gifted with such powers, found her so lovely it had wanted to give her something โฆ It would not harm Elain, even in its hunt to reclaim what had been taken. It retreated the moment Elainโs eyes fell on our dead father lying in the adjacent clearing. The moment the scream came out of her.(Acowar
Why did it give elain such powers? Does it want someone to see how it was corrupted? Does it want to turn into tool of creation state again? Does it see elain as its salvation? (As @riddlecrux talked to me about). All the others saw cauldron as a thing to be used. A thing to be control. But it was only elain who had never stolen from it as nesta did while she was in the cauldron. It found Elain so lovely that it gave her the seer ability.
And from acotar we know that elain look at things as hope.
I gazed again at that sad, dark houseโthe place that had been a prison. Elain had said she missed it, and I wondered what she saw when she looked at the cottage. If she beheld not a prison but a shelterโa shelter from a world that had possessed so little good, but she tried to find it anyway, even if it had seemed foolish and useless to me. She had looked at it that cottage with hope; I had looked at it with nothing but hatred. And I knew which one of us had been stronger. (Acotar)
So maybe all cauldron needs for someone to look at it with hope. Also @riddlecrux told me that in cauldron myths and legends someone goes willingly into the cauldron to destroy it. Maybe in this case someone willingly going inside it uncorrupts the Cauldron..."Through love all is possible"
And we know that Cauldron is the most important thing in acotar
โLong ago, before the High Fae, before man, there was a Cauldron โฆ They say all the magic was contained inside it, that the world was born in it. But it fell into the wrong hands. And great and horrible things were done with it. Things were forged with it. Such wicked things that the Cauldron was eventually stolen back at great cost. It could not be destroyed, for it had Made all things, and if it were broken, then life would cease to be. So it was hidden. And forgotten. Only with that Cauldron could something that is dead be reforged like that.โ (Acomaf)
And in Hofas we learn that Daglan/Asteri made the Cauldron a kill switch.
โOnce we left our home world, our powers began to dim. Too late, we realized that we had been dependent on our landโs inherent magic. The magic in other worlds was not potent enough. Yet we could not find the way back home. Those of us who ventured here found ways to amplify that power, thanks to the gifts of the land. We pooled our power, and imbued those gifts into the Cauldron so that it would work our will. We Made the Trove from it. And then bound the very essence of the Cauldron to the soul of this world.โ Solas. โSo destroy the Cauldron โฆโ โAnd you destroy this world. One cannot exist without the other.โ
In my Mystic&Seers post I connected The Void and Cauldron to each other.
I managed to stand. To take one step before I felt it. The โฆ thing in the Cauldron. Or lack of it. It was lack and substance, absence and presence. And โฆ it was leaking into the world.I dared a step toward it. And what I beheld in those ruins of the Cauldronโฆ It was a void. But also not a voidโa growth. It did not belong here. Belong anywhere. (Acowar)
The darkness paused. โYou are impertinent as well. Do you not know where I come from? My father was the Void, the Being That Existed Before. Chaos was his bride and my dam. It is to them that we shall all one day return, and their mighty powers that run in my blood.โ (hosab)
And from Hofas we know that the Void is actually a blackhole.
The only force in the universe that ate light, so strong no light could ever escape it. A portal to nowhere. To a black hole. Wasnโt that the unholy power that Apollion possessed? The power of the Void. The antithesis of light.
And you know how Elain was when she came out of the Cauldron?
She had been always so full of light. Perhaps that was why she now kept all the curtains open. To fill the void that existed where all of that light had once been. And now nothing remained
The power of the Void...The antithesis of Light.
Elain got rid of that murkiness in her eyes. When Azriel understood what was wrong with her.
It made sense, I supposed, that Azriel alone had listened to her. The male who heard things others could not โฆ Perhaps he, too, had suffered as Elain had before he understood what gift he possessed. He asked Elain, โThere is another queen?โ
Elain blinked and blinked, eyes clearing again. As if the understanding, our understanding โฆ it freed her from whatever murky realm sheโd been in.
Maybe thats all Cauldron needs. So maybe we just need to get rid of the Void, to make sure Cauldron returns to its natural stateโa tool of creation.
Also in my Mystic&Seer posts. I looked up what Mysticism is.
Mysticism is popularly known as becoming one with God or the Absolute, but may refer to any kind of ecstasy or altered state of consciousness which is given a religious or spiritual meaning. It may also refer to the attainment of insight in ultimate or hidden truths, and to human transformation supported by various practices and experiences.
Cauldron is the absolute. We looked up that above.
The hidden truths part.
When theia and fionn overthorwn the daglan they didn't learn all their secrets.
They fought the Daglan and won, she went on. Using the Daglanโs own weapons, they destroyed them. Yet my parents did not think to learn the Daglanโs other secretsโthey were too weary, too eager to leave the past behind.
And Cauldron made Elain a seer. Maybe to see to learn the other secrets The Daglan had?
We can't even ask Amren because her timeline doesn't even match.
In acosf we learn this.
Rhys shook his head. โOnly vaguely now. From what Iโve gleaned, she arrived during those years before Fionn and Gwydion rose, and went into the Prison during the Age of Legendsโthe time when this land was full of heroic figures who were keen to hunt down the last members of their former mastersโ race. They feared Amren, believing her one of their enemies, and threw her into the Prison. When she emerged again, sheโd missed Fionnโs fall and the loss of Gwydion, and found the High Lords ruling.โ
The problem is how can she go into prison when there was no...prison.
Silene made the prison what it was after she returned from Crescent City. So before fionn's fall...there were no Prison. Actually theia ruled from the Prison Island.
Our home had been left empty since weโd vanished. As if the other Fae thought it cursed. So I made it truly cursed. Damned it all.
One after another, I hunted monstersโthe remaining pets of the Daglanโuntil many of the lowest rooms were filled with them. Until my once-beautiful home became a prison. Until even the land was so disgusted by the evil Iโd gathered here that the islands shriveled and the earth became barren. The winged horses who hadnโt gone with my mother to Midgard, who had once flown in the skies, playing in the surf โฆ they were nearly gone. Not a single living soul remained, except for the monstrosities in the mountain.
So even Amren doesn't know. She is even confused in hofas.
Amren picked at an invisible speck on her silk blouse. โItโs murky. I went in before โฆโ She shook her head. โBut when I came out, there were rumors. That a great number of people had vanished, as if they had never been. Some said to another world, others said theyโd moved on to distant lands, still others said theyโd been chosen by the Cauldron and spirited away somewhere.โ
So who is better to learn these secret than a Cauldron Made seer?
Also in hofas we learn that Cauldron sits on top of Ramiel.
โThe Cauldron,โ Nesta said hours later, pointing to yet another carving on the wall. It indeed showed a giant cauldron, perched atop what seemed to be a barren mountain peak with three stars above it. Azriel halted, angling his head. โThatโs Ramiel.โ At Bryceโs questioning look, he explained, โA mountain sacred to the Illyrians.โ
And from Acosf we know that nobody went to look at what lies under ramiel. Sure enough Eris says "secrets". Maybe like daglan secrets???
Eris shrugged, and Nesta knew Cassian monitored his every breath. โThere are three of them, you know. Sister peaks. This one, the mountain called the Prison, and the one the Illyrian brutes call Ramiel. All bald, barren mountains at odds with those around them.โ
Eris gave him a mocking smile, but continued, โUnsurprisingly, the Illyrians were never curious enough to see what secrets lie beneath Ramiel. If it, too, was carved up like the others by ancient hands.โ
What if there is more to under ramiel than we thought? What if its a secret Daglan hideout? I went into detail and what could have inspired it in my Wild Hunt post if you want to read it.
Also we know from acosf that Enalius tried to stop the "enemy" from reaching the stone on top of Ramiel.
Emerieโs eyes shone. โLong agoโso long ago they donโt even have a precise date for itโa great war was fought between the Fae and the ancient beings who oppressed them. One of its key battles was here, in these mountains. Our forces were battered and outnumbered, and for some reason, the enemy was desperate to reach the stone at the top of Ramiel. We were never taught the reason why; I think itโs been forgotten. But a young Illyrian warrior named Enalius held the line against the enemy soldiers for days. He found a natural archway of stone amongst the tangle of boulders and made that his bottleneck. He died in the end, but he held off the enemy long enough for our allies to reach us. This Rite is all to honor him. So much of the history has been lost, but the memory of his bravery remains.โ
It was forgotten? Or was it never learned? What if it wasnt The stone the daglan was trying to reach but Cauldron as we know it stood on top of Ramiel? What if they were trying to reach that?
We also learn more about Enalius in hofas.
โYou are no creator of mine,โ Azriel said coldly. The Starsword gleamed in his other hand. If they bothered him, if they called to him, he didnโt let on. Neither hand so much as twitched. The Asteriโs eyes flared with recognition at the long blade. โDid Fionn send you, then? To slay me in my sleep? Or was it that traitor Enalius? I see that you bear his daggerโas his emissary? Or his assassin?โ
The Truth-teller was Enalius's dagger. How did Azriel come to possess it? And we know that after Enalius's dead Fionn took possession of it as it was his friends dagger.
My father had never shown himself to be givingโlong had he kept Gwydion and never once offered it to my mother. The dagger that had belonged to his dear friend, slain during the war, hung at his side, unused. But not for long.
And we know that Elain used the TT to kill the King of Hybern.
But as a black blade broke through the kingโs throat, spraying blood, I realized someone else had. Elain stepped out of a shadow behind him, and rammed Truth-Teller to the hilt through the back of the kingโs neck as she snarled in his ear, โDonโt you touch my sister.โ
So how did Elain stepped out of a shadow?
The asteri under Prison says Azriel doesnt know it useโits full potential.
Vesperus took another step, steadier now, and smiled past Bryce. At Azriel, at Truth-Teller. โYou donโt know how to use it, do you?โ Azriel pointed the dagger toward the advancing Asteri. โPretty sure this endโs the one thatโll go through your gut.โ Vesperus chuckled, her dark hair swaying with each inching step closer. โTypical of your kind. You want to play with our weapons, but have no concept of their true abilities. Your mind couldnโt hold all the possibilities at once.โ
True abilities? All possibilities? There is more than just creating a portal to nowhere with gwydion? Maybe that's how Elain could step out of a shadow? The "unknown" abilities of the Truth-Teller?
Also Autumn king says this:
โThe Starsword is Made, as you called it.โ He waved an idle hand, sparks at his fingertips. โThe knife can Unmake things. Made and Unmade. Matter and antimatter. With the right influx of powerโa command from the one destined to wield themโthey can be merged. And they can create a place where no life, no light exists. A place that is nothing. Nowhere.โ
As @offtorivendell theorised in her mating bond theory. Did the Asteri messed with the mating bonds too?
Can the Truth-teller unmake a mating bond? As it looks the cauldron was corrupted? It even ties to Book Of Breathings and what it said in acomaf:
Unmade and Made; Made and Unmadeโthat is the cycle. Like calls to like.
And don't ever forget that...
"What if the Cauldron was wrong?" ๐ซก

Amren shook her head, hair swaying. โNothing is a fluke. The Cauldronโs power flows through Nesta, and could use her as a puppet without her knowledge. It wanted those weapons Made, and thus they were Made. It wanted Rhysand to have them and thus the blacksmith brought them to you. To you, Rhysand, not to Nesta. And do not forget that Nesta herselfโand Elain, with whatever powers she hasโis here. Feyre is here. All three sisters blessed by fate and gifted with powers to match your own. Feyre alone doubles your strength. Nesta makes you unstoppable. Especially if she were to march into battle wearing the Mask. No enemy could stand against her. Sheโd slay Beronโs soldiers, then raise them from the dead and turn them on him.โ Cassianโs blood chilled. Yes, Nesta would be unstoppable. But at what cost to her soul?
So, departing from my usual content (not really though), I came across this passage in SF and immediately connected it to HOFAS, where Cassian was most furious at Nesta for handing over the mask.
HOFAS tells us that Nesta no longer has complete control over the mask. Once she could easily remove it in SF, now Azriel needs to list names in order for the mask to relinquish control. Some theories suggested Nesta's limited powers as the reason for the struggle, but it doesn't make sense when Helion reacted strongly against it, and Lucien went pale over Nesta's training, wondering if something shouldn't be awoken.
Helion shuddered, and Nesta threw the cloth over the Mask. As if the cloth somehow blinded it to their presence. โPerhaps an ancestor of mine once used it, and the warning of its cost is imprinted upon my blood.โ Helion shook out a breath.
Nesta revealed that Cassian was the one who was more furious with her. This, to me, gives more insight as to why he opposed Nesta's actions. Rather than his loyalty to Rhys, it was due to having direct knowledge of the consequences of using the mask, especially when Nesta was shown needing assistance in removing it.
Bryce wore the mask, and she does not have the same power as Nesta, yet she seemed to remove it with ease when she wielded it during her battle against the Asteri. She too described the sensations that Cassian feared would have happened to Nesta.
Bryce slid the mask back on, and its ungodly, leeching presence ate into her soul. But the star inside her seemed to hold the mask at bay.
I wonder what happened in the months between the Valkyries' win and Bryce's arrival that made Rhys so angry about Nesta handing over the mask to someone who escaped with Truth-Teller. Where even Cassian didn't support Nesta's decision.
I still maintain that the mask will link Crescent City for ACOTAR-only readers, and I don't think Azriel and Gwyn will tell that story, especially when Azriel stopped Elain from searching the trove due to its darkness. Elain and Nesta have yet to resolve their fight from SF regarding the trove, and Nesta's powers flared at her sister's names, making me believe it was rehashed.
I believe that Azriel's presence in CC is meant to show that he supports Nesta's decision in whatever argument she had with Elain, considering he has been consistent in supporting her in SF, and Elain's name was the penultimate name he listed. We were also given bits and pieces of how Az was faring since the solstice. No, he does not have a mate or anyone in his life for that matter. Yes, he has been going to pleasure halls as Rhys suggested. Actually, he does seem to go back to revering The Cauldron considering how quick he was to correct Bryce.
There is still this thread that connects Lucien to the mask itself, as well as his unresolved plotlines regarding his real father, who bears the cost of wearing the mask imprinted on his blood.
The mask's history is more important than Truth-Teller, especially when Rigelus saw it and said Bryce has no idea what she's playing with.
"You have no idea what powers you toy with, girl," Rigelus said. "The mask will curse your very soulโ"
So, Lucien is connected to the mask, and Elain is connected to the wearer. This seems like the type of scenario a reluctant fated mate couple would need to push aside their feelings towards each other in order to save her sister's soul.
If Nesta saved Feyre in SF as proof of her love, it makes more sense for Elain to save Nesta from whatever cost she accumulated from using the mask.
Nesta saving Feyre came from the perception she didn't love Feyre. Elain saving Nesta would stem from her non-action.
And Azriel? Well, he just found out that the Illyrians were Daglan-created creatures that broke away from their control, and they celebrate this every year with the Blood Rite. I think he'll be preoccupied with the impending identity crisis. What does it mean to be an Illyrian, especially considering that Gwyn, a non-Illyrian, holds a title earned through the Blood Rite? Emerie is Illyrian by birth, but what does that mean now that she also holds a title?
Elucien's book is next to explain this gap, especially given the history we learned about Fionn and Theia. Gwynriel's book is what follows when Nesta received Gwydion, possibly a couple of months after the fact.

The importance of the number 7 in crescent city
Throughout the entirety of the crescent city series, the number 7 plays a huge role in both a symbolic and a literal way

Hunt also mentions that โType-Seven is only for the princes themselves, and given what this thing can do, Iโd bet itโd be deemed a Sixโ in chapter 29 of HOEAB, when talking about the demons and princes of Hel

*The term Starborn describes the descendants of High King Fionn and High Queen Theia.
1. Also when bryce traded places so Danika would get into the Bone quarter, she said the vow (โI wish to trade my place.โ) 7 times:
โSheโd tossed a Death Mark into the Istros, payment to the Under-Kingโa coin of pure iron from an ancient, long-gone kingdom across the sea. Passage for a mortal on a boat.
And then sheโd knelt on the crumbling stone steps, the river mere feet behind her, the arches of the bone gates above her, and waited.
The Under-King, veiled in black and silent as death, had appeared moments later.
It has been an age since a mortal dared set foot on my isle.
The voice had been old and young, male and female, kind and full of hatred. Sheโd never heard anything so hideousโand beckoning.
I wish to trade my place. (1)
I know why you are here, Bryce Quinlan. Whose passage you seek to barter. An amused pause. Do you not wish to one day dwell here among the honored dead? Your balance remains skewed toward acceptanceโcontinue on your path, and you shall be welcomed when your time comes.
I wish to trade my place. For Danika Fendyr. (2)
Do this and know that no other Quiet Realms of Midgard shall be open to you. Not the Bone Quarter, not the Catacombs of the Eternal City, not the Summer Isles of the north. None, Bryce Quinlan. To barter your resting place here is to barter your place everywhere.
I wish to trade my place. (3)
You are young, and you are weighed with grief. Consider that your life may seem long, but it is a mere flutter of eternity.
I wish to trade my place. (4)
Are you so certain Danika Fendyr will be denied welcome? Have you so little faith in her actions and deeds that you must make this bargain?
I wish to trade my place. Sheโd sobbed the words. (5)
There is no undoing this.
I wish to trade my place. (6)
Then say it, Bryce Quinlan, and let the trade be done. Say it a seventh and final time, and let the gods and the dead and all those between hear your vow. Say it, and it shall be done.
She hadnโt hesitated, knowing this was the ancient rite. Sheโd looked it up in the gallery archives. Had stolen the Death Mark from there, too. It had been given to Jesiba by the Under-King himself, the sorceress had told her, when sheโd sworn fealty to the House of Flame and Shadow.
I wish to trade my place. (7)
And so it had been done.โ
- HOEAB, chapter 62
2. Hunt was in the Asteri dungeonโs for 7 years
โHow long did they do that to youโafter Mount Hermon?โ
โSeven years.โ
She closed her eyes as the weight of those words rippled through her.
Hunt said, โI lost track of time, too. The Asteri dungeons are so far beneath the earth, so lightless, that days are years and years are days and โฆ When they let me out, I went right to the Archangel Ramuel. My first โฆ handler. He continued the pattern for two years, got bored with it, and realized that Iโd be more useful dispatching demons and doing his bidding than rotting away in his torture chambers.โ
โBurning Solas, Hunt,โ she whispered.โ -HOEAB, chapter 35
โWe need to get out of here,โ Ruhn said, and nothing had ever sounded more stupid. Of course they needed to get out of here. For so many fucking reasons.
But Athalar cracked open an eye. Met his stare. Pain and rage and determination shone there, unbroken despite the halo and slave brand on his wrist. โThen talk to your โฆ person.โ Girlfriend, the angel didnโt say.
Ruhn ground his teeth, and his ravaged mouth gave a burst of pain. Heโd rather die here than beg the Hind for help. โAnother way.โ
โI was in these dungeons โฆ for seven years,โ Hunt said. โNo way out. Especially not with Pollux so invested in ripping us apart.โ -HOFAS, Chapter 11
3. Apollion (7th prince of Hel) ate the Sirius (7th Asteri)
โNo one would dare say his name, not after the Prince of the Pit became the first and only being to ever kill an Asteri. His butchering of the seventh holy starโSirius, the Wolf Starโduring the First Wars remained a favorite ballad around war-camp fires. And what heโd done to Sirius after slaying her had earned him that awful title: Star-Eaterโ -HOEAB, chapter 51
4. The slave tattoos has seven stars in it
โFor there was also no hiding the second tattoo, stamped on their right wrists: SPQM.
It adorned every flag and letterhead of the Republicโthe four letters encircled with seven starsโand adorned the wrist of every being owned by it.โ -HOEAB, Chapter 6
โRuhn spied their own solar system in the center of it all. Seven planets around a massive star. Seven Asteriโtechnically six nowโto rule Midgard. Seven Princes of Hel to challenge them.
Seven Gates in this city through which Hel had tried to invade this spring.
Seven and seven and seven and sevenโalways that holy number. Alwaysโโ -HOSAB, Chapter 25
5. 7 is a holy number
โSevenโthe holy number. Or unholy, depending on who was worshipping. Seven Asteri, seven hills in their Eternal City, seven neighborhoods and seven Gates in Crescent City; seven planets, and seven circles in Hel, with seven princes who ruled them, each darker than the lastโ - HOEAB, Chapter 19
โMicah had left the latterโs body up. Justinian would hang there for seven full days and then be pulled off the crucifixโand dumped into the Istrosโ -HOEAB, Chapter 69
6. Hypaxia and necromancy
โSo this is it?โ Ithan asked Hypaxia, gesturing with a hand to the seven candles sheโd arranged on the ground. โLight the candles and wait?โ -HOSAB, Chapter 61
โIt took Hypaxia seven hours, seven minutes, and seven seconds to raise Sigrid.
Ithan barely moved from his stool the entire time Hypaxia stood over the corpse and chanted. Jesiba left, came back with her laptop, and worked for some of the time. She even offered Ithan some food, which he refused.
He had no appetite. If this didnโt work โฆโ -HOFAS, Chapter 48
7. Sailings happen on the 7th day after the death
Donโt come to the Sailing tomorrow. Youโre not welcome there.
Sheโd listened to it over and over, the first words to echo in her silent head.
Her mother hadnโt woken from the bed beside hers when Bryce had exited the hotel room on Fae-soft feet, taking the service elevator and leaving through the unwatched alley door. She hadnโt left that room for six days, just sat staring vacantly at the floral hotel wallpaper. And now, with the seventh dawning โฆ Only for this would she leave. Would she remember how to move her body, how to speak.โ -HOEAB, Chapter 7
8. Midgard geography
โโSevenโthe holy number. Or unholy, depending on who was worshipping. Seven Asteri, seven hills in their Eternal City, seven neighborhoods and seven Gates in Crescent City; seven planets, and seven circles in Hel, with seven princes who ruled them, each darker than the last.โ -HOEAB, chapter 18
โBryce didnโt wait for them before trailing the old male up the walkway as the seven planets aligned themselves perfectly, stars glittering in the far reaches of the room.โ -HOSAB, chapter 38
โBryce halted after a turn in the stairs and assessed the long hallway ahead. When it revealed no guards, she stepped into it.
There were no doors. Only this hall, perhaps seventy feet long and fifteen feet wide. Likely fourteen feet, to be a multiple of seven. The holy number.โ -HOSAB, Chapter 71
โSheโd studied Furyโs rough map of the palace layout. This area was seven levels below the throne room, where the Asteri sat on crystal thronesโ -HOSAB, chapter 71
โThey could fly no further. The massive black wall stretched for miles in either direction before curving northward, with wards protecting the airspace above it. Hunt knew from maps that the area the wall encircled was forty-nine miles in diameterโseven times seven, the holiest of numbersโand that at its center, somewhere in the barren, snow-blasted terrain, lay the Northern Rift, shrouded in mist. Barriers upon barriers protected Midgard from the Rift, and Hel beyond it.โ -HOFAS, Chapter 70
9. Ithan & the number 7
โSabine stared down at the seven shards the Fendyr sword had broken into, then lifted her furious gaze to Ithan.
Ithan shifted back into his humanoid body with a near-instant flash. โItโs just a piece of steel,โ he said, panting, the metallic tang of the blade lingering in his mouth. โAll those years you obsessed over it, resented Danika for having it โฆ Itโs just a piece of metal. - HOFAS, Chapter 74
โYou have seven minutesโ -HOFAS, Chapter 81 (when Ithan was talking to Connor)

Orion opened the letter in his barracks, he was surprised Creon even knew where he was stationed.
He stared at the letter re-reading it again and again. Surely this was a horrible joke? Surely Nehemiah hadn't demanded the both of them?!
But of course it was something their dear sister would do. He could see her look as she'd penned the letter to Creon. Her eyes like their mother's not taking a no for an answer.
He shoved the guilt, he'd tore into her 200 years ago when she'd come to see him in those cells. How dare she come here? How dare she see him like that? How dare she mate the things that they were fighting against?!
All she'd done was apologized, trying to hold his hand. He'd burned her, had spat her - said every horrible thing he could think till she'd been hysterical. Till Galan had come to drag her away and not listened when she demanded he be free to.
Perhaps their parents had told her he'd calmed down. Or that he'd wondered how she was doing. He hadn't thought it would come to this. But of course it wouldn't it? The Asteri in Midgard was the bulwark against the demons across the sea. A wall and wards seperated them but Midgard was the first line of defense.
He couldn't imagine sometimes how powerful Galan's family had to be to be the Emperor of the Asteri and keep the Council of Asteri in the Eternal City in check.
He couldn't imagine what his willful, hopeful, and beautiful sister had seen in something like Galan. He wouldn't put it past the snake to charm and keep his sister.
--------
Orion sipped at his beer looking at Bryce. She and Rigelus were friends right? Perhaps he'd told her and he'd at least have a friend to attend this insanity.
"Remember I told you when I had an older brother and sister high up in the government?"
He sighed and set his bottle down, rubbing at the back of his neck.
"Creon works under my sister, I suppose her specific title would be the Empress of the Asteri."
He frowned at the title and shuddered.
"I can't see it, I still can't see why she agreed to take one as a mate. Anyway, my...I suppose one of my nieces is of marrying age. She's coming to Crescent City to live here and plan Cultural events to raise money for the arts."
He played with his food, his frown more pronounced.
"According to my brother's letter she's hoping Helena and Rigelus hit it off and marry."
He rolled his eyes stabbing at his food.
"A barbaric tradition right? I mean I have no idea what Helena wants. And I can't even stomach the idea of even meeting her you know? Gods, I hope she isn't some vapid socialite."
He had shared some things about his family life, the small insights that she could gain when he wouldn't completely shut down. This brief insights to who he was, how he came to be who he was.
"You had mentioned it in passing." She confirmed. Despite everything his family had been through, the little he had shared, they had found their footing again. Deep in the ranks of the Asteri.
Bryce folded her arms as she leaned forwards, her head tilted slightly as she mulled over what he was saying.
There were connections. She sat back, nodding slightly as she made note of what he was saying, this would mean she probably would cross paths with Juniper.
"Barbaric, but they are not our own. If that was the case I am sure my father would have married off the moment I started looking at boys," she countered before she took a sip of her drink. "You don't really have to met her, you can attend if you want but keep your distance."

CRESCENT CITY IDEA!!!!
@luxmaeastra
@starlsssankt
Okay, but since the darker threads are appearing more....Orion at the end of Shahar's war was taken.
Which, Illyarians being a version of Changelings? Gives credence to why Shahar rose up against the Asteri like Rigelus ๐
Anyway, after Orion was taken in and broken. (or maybe before?)
Hypaxia was offered a way to have her kingdom again? A throne and rulership over the witches ther lived in Midgard? The ones who wanted to go back the days when the Asteri held their leashes? A time when the Witches were powerful and feared. When their magic could transform lands and they were soldiers and not slaves.
Hypaxia was allowed to have that power back so long as she swore to be loyal to and subservient of Eosphoros (Rigelus oldest sister) rules?
But like how I'd relate to us is hinging on Azriel's response? Does he leave? Does he stay with Rhys? Does he try to find some middle ground??

โAnd then Hunt knew nothing at all.โ
This line has been bugging me since I read it. I know that this is probably referring to Hunt passing out from the pain, but I first read it as Rigelus wiping Huntโs memories (hence the line โHunt knew nothing at allโ). What if wiping Huntโs memories is Rigelusโ way of punishing Bryce? What could be worse than coming back to find your mate and he doesnโt remember you?
Idk guys, this could be a major reach. But itโs definitely diabolical enough for the Asteri to do

because i love to be an actual menace to society: rewritten asteri lore part one.
It takes every male 10,000 years to mature. Upon their 10,000th birthday (similar to turning 21 in human years), they can choose to go on a grace year. The grace year is the hunt for their mate. This can also be postponed until later in life in certain circumstances, such a being in a leadership position.
Every Asteri has a fae mate, most of them are never connected.
Female asteri have a somewhat different coming of age, they come of age at 10,000 years as well, but don't go to seek their mate out. Their coming of age consists of a grace rite. Female asteri choose their place in society, and while female asteri are generally encouraged not to take warrior positions: many of them defy the customs and take up posts where their destructive power will do the most good (if they are loyal to rigelus.) (let's talk about rigelus headcanon's later that's a BIG POST)
Most asteri have destructive magic, however... some of them (all of the seven, and some of the high-born asteri, as well as a small number of commoners and warriors) when they embrace the light, and turn away from their fellows (the loyalists) they are gifted with magic more nuanced than the simply destructive powers of their fellows.
The only power they are never gifted is necromancy. The old gods feared their sons and daughters would grow too powerful for their own good.
However: there is an exception to this rule.
Rigelus and his brother Sirius. (yes I'm aware Sirius is a female in the books let's roll with it though)
The two brothers can use necromancy for one reason alone; to bring back their mate.
I think it's a little funny in the books they never describe Rigelus as being mated. And what's up with him having a teenage boy's body? errrr...... *record scratch noise.*
Which brings me too: True Forms.
It makes sense that the asteri can shape-shift or take on a dead fae body. It also makes sense that their bodies wear out after a few thousand years. In the same vein, what if the two most powerful asteri, Sirius and Rigelus, could not take on "shells" aka dead fae bodies. The two brothers only have one, true form. They can glamor or use the damper on their power to change or obscure features. But Sirius and Rigelus are essentially kind of stuck with their "true" features.
ok i think i have shattered all your minds well enough for today.

Rereading Crescent City (HOEAB) and when it mentioned Rigelus, The Bright Hand of the Asteri, I knew the name reminded me of the name of a Star.
I was right.
Rigel is a star in the ORION CONSTELLATION
Iโm calling it now. Rigelus is Huntโs dad.

The Princes of Hel are the true villains of the SJM universe. They are the Valg.
This theory contains spoilers for ACOTAR, Crescent City, and Throne of Glass!
The Princes of Hel: Can they be trusted?
As of Crescent City 2, we are lead to believe that Aidas, Apollion and the other Princes of Hel are the misunderstood "good guys;" that they have been fighting for Midgard liberation all along. I think that is a lie.
Interwoven throughout the book, there are many 'red flags' regarding the behaviour and true intensions of the Princes of Hel. The most prominent of these is Rigelus's warning to Bryce; that Queen Theia trusted Aidas, and ultimately "paid the price."
Secondly, the Wolf Mystic reveals that as punishment, she would be sent down to Hel where both the demons and their Princes would terrify and taunt her. Doesn't sound very saviour-like, does it?
Let's also not forget thatย the Princes of Hel are at the top of the food chain. They easily kicked the Asteri out of their world, with Apollion even straight up "devouring" one of the Asteri.
Additionally, they have connections all over Midgard. It is said that the Princes want to enter Midgard again - but to what end?ย What are their true motives?
Thanatos reveals Hel's motives.
Bryce's interaction with Thanatos - the Prince of the Ravine - is most telling. Thanatos states that Hel's current rules of civilisation are a mere "illusion." Instead, when the gates between worlds open once more,ย he will feed on the souls and power of the Vanir AND the Asteri.
Some may argue that Thanatos is a rogue, lesser Prince - that his brothers are different. However, is it then a coincidence that the Bone Quarter,ย where souls are harvested into secondlightย (what Thanatos wants to taste),ย is overseen by Apollion, the most powerful and influential of the seven Princes?
Most importantly, Thanatos said he once used to devour secondlight likeย FINE WINE.
Where else have we heard this phrase before?
The Daglan.ย The ancient beings that oppressed those in the ACOTAR world.
SJM has lead us to think that the Daglan are the Asteri.
I believe that is incorrect.
I theorise that the Daglan are actually the Princes of Hel.
And, I also theorise that the Princes of Hel are Valg.
Princes of Hel = Daglan = Valg.
There are many similarities between the Valg and the Princes of Hel:
They are both "demons" (a word that is not used to describe the Asteri).
Both are said to live in worlds that are "cold" and "dark."
Both feed on power (I see this point contested for the Valg regularly - that they don't feed on power, but fear. This is canonically incorrect; see photo below).
Both have the ability to take on different forms.
They both possess the same "dark" shadow-like power.
Both create beasts and other lesser, evil creatures (something the Asteri do not do).
However, the most telling evidence for this lies with Lanthys - the ancient being that Nesta killed in ACOSF.
He bled black blood - the trademark of the Valg.
His humanoid form ofย blond hair, black eyesย was identical to both a Valg Prince, and a Prince of Hel (Apollion).
Lanthys also feared Nesta's death-sword. The Reapers in Crescent City similarly feared Bryce's death-sword; the Reapers also bledย black blood.
The Reapers originated fromย Hel. I doubt that is a coincidence.
The 3 Valg Kings.
If the Princes of Hel are indeed Valg, then we cannot forget about Erawan's two older brothers, who are presumably still alive; Orcus and Mantyx.
Erawan's oldest brother,ย Orcus, is said to be the most powerful Valg King of all timeย - what he can do pales to the horror's Erawan inflicted upon Erelia.
Another name for Orcus, is APOLLION.
In mythology, both Orcus and Apollion are depicted as having bat wings. In Crescent City, Apollion is the only Prince of Hel (so far) with bat wings (the same as the Illyrians... but more on that later).
Thus, I theorise thatย Orcus = Apollion = Most powerful Valg/Hel leader.
How does Prythian history tie into all of this?
If the Princes of Hel/Valg are the Daglan, then they must have been in Prythian.ย There is proof of this.
Take a look at how the Daglan are described in Rhys's book:
โHe flipped it open to a page, revealing an image ofย tall,ย strange-looking beings withย crowns atop their heads.โ
Now look at how the 3 Valg Kings are described in the book Yrene finds in Tower of Dawn:
โTheir bodies,ย tallย and powerful.โ โCrowned, dark figures.โ
They are the same beings. What's more - Yrene flips the page to reveal the 3 Valg Kings standing a top a mountain. Take a look at a key feature of this mountain:
"As if someone hadย built the gateway of BLACK STONE out of thin air.ย There were no doors within thisย ARCHWAY."
Now look at the description of a key feature on Ramiel:
"The Breaking flowed through anย ARCHWAYย ofย BLACK STONE.ย The Pass of Enalius."
The Valg Kings were standing on top of Ramiel.ย
Is that what the 3 stars above the sacred mountain indicate - the 3 Valg brothers?
If that wasn't enough evidence, consider also Erawan's words to Yrene -ย that her power existed in his home world.
Yrene's power is described as "starlight," and acts in the exact same way as Bryce's.ย I believe that Yrene is Starborn.ย We know that the Starborn Fae originated from Prythian - if Erawan says the Starborn were in his world also... this further proves the Valg's connection to Prythian.
The history we have been told is a lie.
I always found it curious that the history of the 3 Valg brothers and the world they conquered (2000 years total), lined up perfectly with the history and subsequent overthrowing of the Daglan (2000 years total). However, it never made sense if you believed the Asteri to be the Daglan.
Instead, Iย believe the Asteri were in Prythian BEFORE the Valg/Daglan. I believe they created the Fae, and lived in relative civilisation (as they do now in Midgard).ย
I think timeline has been purposely misconstrued.
According to the Valg history, they found a world and waged a war - they were successful, and ending up conquering that world. It is explicitly stated that the world they found was not always grim and dark,ย but the 3 Valg Kings turned it into a world of ice and and cold and darkness.
I believe that world was Prythian. The Valg/Princes left Hel through the gates and overthrew the Asteri - taking control of the ACOTAR world.
Then, who was Fionn?
Rhys mentioned that the first and only High King of Prythian was Fionn. If this theory is correct, it suggests that Fionn was no mere fae warrior, but was actuallyย Orcus/Apollion.
This makes perfect sense, as a single fae warrior is not capable of overthrowing the Asteri - but the Star Eater himself is.
Thus,ย Orcus = Apollion = Fionn. All the same person. All Kings.
What else can be explained?
During this time, the Valg/Princes of Hel either created, or stole and used the Dread Trove. I don't find it a coincidence that Erawan was called the "Dreadย Lord," and that the "Dreadwolves" in Crescent City are referred to as "demons."
What's more, is that Amren was thrown into the Prison during this time. She was a being of LIGHT and FIRE - the two things the Valg hate the most. She was also an angel; the all-time sworn enemies of demons (even dating back to the Bible).
It also explains how theย Illyriansย came to be, with theirย leather bat wings identical to Apollion's,ย and those of Hel's armies.
It also explains howย shadow powers,ย winnowingย andย other Valg/Hel-related powersย are so prominent throughout Prythian (the Night Court in particular).
I also believeย Rhys to be Fionn/Apollion/Orcus's direct descendant.ย This is why he has the exact powers of a Valg King. It is also why he is dubbed the most powerful High Lord to exist. It ALSO explains why Rhys's beast form is identical to the Daglan hounds.ย (And no, that doesn't mean Rhys is evil - just that he has their power).
What about Queen Theia and Prince Pelias?
We are told that Queen Theia and Prince Pelias presumably killed Fionn - something that never made sense if he was indeed a noble, fae warrior. However, it makes perfect sense if Fionn was actually an almighty demon King.
However, aside from that, I believe that everything we have been told about Queen Theia and Prince Pelias - the original Starborn fae -ย is wrong.
We are lead to believe that Pelias was an awful person, who forcibly wed Theia's daughter. I think this is false,ย and that Queen Theia and Pelias were actually husband/wife or loversย (and I'll tell you why later, hehe).
I also believe thatย Prince Pelias is actually Enaliusย - the famed Illyrian warrior.
We know that Enalius fought an unknown enemy forย 3 DAYS.
Pelias and Apollion fought for that exact same amount of time -ย 3 DAYS.
I theorise that Prince Pelias caught on to Apollion/Orcus/Fionn's rule, and tried to overthrow him. They fought for 3 days the top of Ramiel, with Pelias attempting to stop Hel's armies from accessing the gate.
In further proof of this, Pelias was described as a fae warrior wearing a "helmet."
Hunt finds a vase with the same helmeted fae warrior fighting Hel's demons, 15,000 years ago.
That same helmeted fae warrior is later shown as a statue riding a Pegasus, sword raised - charging into battle. Pegasus's are the animals of the Dusk Court - the Starborn - as Pelias is.
However, after the 3 days, Apollion kills Pelias/Enalius. But, before he dies, Pelias uses the Horn to banish Apollion and the Valg/Princes of Hel/Daglan back to Hel.
Saving Prythian, and allowing for the 7 Courts to be ruled as they are today.
Theia and her two children then use the horn to seal the gates. However, they are are then betrayed by the Princes of Hel; the extent of which remains unknown.
Cassian and Nesta.
This theory makes even more sense when you consider Cassian and Nesta as "reincarnations," or parallels of Queen Theia and Pelias.
Pelias and Cassian:
Pelias is Enalius. Cassian was said to be "Enalius reborn," that he has Enalius's exact fighting style.
As Pelias was Fionn's general, Cassian is Rhys's general.
Nesta and Queen Theia:
Nesta is continually referred to as a "Queen," despite not ruling any lands of her own.
She created a death-sword, just as Theia created/used Gwydion - Bryce's starsword.
Nesta's power and interaction with the Cauldron was described as a "newborn star."
Together, both Nesta and Cassian have a tattoo of an eight-pointed star.ย The symbol of the Starbornย - the same symbol of Theia and Pelias.
Even when Nesta and Cassian had sex, the sound of a "single horn" was heard. Just like Pelias's horn?
And let's not forget Cassian's proclamation to Nesta;
"I will find you in the next world - the next life. And we will have that time. I promise.โ
Almost as if... they've lived together once before...?
Timeline of events.
(A very rough draft).
Whether this theory is true or not remains to be seen.
However, in the meantime -ย don't trust the Princes of Hel.
