Mermay 2024 - Mermaids of Mana

I picked up the Trials of Mana remake around 6 months ago and ended up enjoying it pretty well (it ended up better than Secret of Mana's remake for sure), with Angela as my main character, and I had the idea that given her background she'd make a good sea witch, even if I had to draw all those little suckers on her tentacles. Charlotte was added in based off a friend suggestion even though she's not on my team, and originally this picture was just going to feature those two, but then I thought of adding Riesz just to round off the three female protagonists of the game, basing her off a flying fish since she normally lives high up in the mountains. I finally finally pulled out my copy of Trials of Mana and started a play through! I'm excited to explore the 3D world and see all the different locations. Bring on the Lamp Flower Forest!

Obviously, picking old favourite Riesz/Lise as my protagonist this time around (with backup from Angela and Duran because I need my killer mage and himbo support-spell swordsman. Obviously.)

But. I'm internally screeching at the idea of a "Knight" let alone a Knight CAPTAIN running around in a backless dress. And the shoulder pads make no sense, how do they stay there? Wind Magic?

So I had to go back to the old sprites and do at least a basic sketchy of how I've always envisioned Amazoness Lise/Riesz to look. (Less wishy-washy sad blonde, more "Burn my kingdom to the ground, and I'll return the favour" HBIC energy)

The Ending of Trials of Mana Reaction

I won't spoil this video but this was a fun game and made me excited for Visions of Mana.

I really love Haccan's designs and the fantasy stylings of all the characters. They're very colorful and helps the cast stand out against the environment. Its such a good choice!

Let's get ready for Visions of Mana coming at the end of the month!
