Did u know that ribeiroia is a parasitic flatworm that infects amphibians and causes limb malformations? It gets into developing tadpole tissue and fucks shit up bc stem cells are weird.

also i won't lie. the single point where i hated the silt verses with my whole heart. the part in the qna where it's insisted that frog horror just doesnt work.
like EXCUSE YOU. I HAVE REFINED TASTE IN AMPHIBIAN HORROR. DO NOT TALK TO ME ABOUT A LACK OF FROG HORROR, I WILL NOT EVEN HONOR THIS SENTIMENT.
#all the care guide says is 'biomass'#the silt verses#I FEEL VERY PASSIONATELY ABOUT THIS#like BEING ASSOCIATED WITH CUTESY OR CHILDISH THINGS CERTAINLY NEVER STOPPED CATS IN HORROR#AND THEYRE THE FUZZY MAMMALS#real innsmouthheads know#also. also the sheer reality that is the surinam toad.#or my favorite. ribeiroia ondatrae <3#or just what i know about amphibian sex determinism that one day i will write about.

Triangle Agency launched today and i made some Creatures for it. here’s the artistic growth of Growth! when i was first given the anomaly description for this friend i immediately thought of stuffed animals made strange by countless sewn on additions and chia pets, but meat. after some back and forth with the team i came up with the first 3 ideas: one based on how bears get real fat for the winter, one based on shope’s papilloma, the real life virus that creates ‘jackalopes’, and one based on how ribeiroia ondatrae can cause mutations in frogs that can give them extra limbs (also a little flower with facination).
frog Growth was picked as the favorite and that base idea was combined with things the team liked from the other two critters with a little gardening aesthetic to create the fabulous froggy fiend you see at the end! my headcannon is that they have to grow their ‘arm’ to move around and if you rip it out they lay limp like a regular puppet until they can generate enough Meat to grow it back :)
their flower pot friend is named Daisy and i love them very much.
if you haven’t already you should head on over and get yourself a copy of this rad game! i currently have two other Creatures in there but i will be paid to make More Creatures if stretch goals are met (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

I had a VERY, long day today and I’m about to go to bed but I forgot to post this;
It’s the little guy from Bald basic but not that bald one the other bald one, BADSUM!!!!!
(IGNORE THE WOOBLE DOGS ABOVE HIM!!)
In this au he’s Baldi’s brother and severely deformed due to a parasite similar to Ribeiroia ondatrae, or the frog-mutating flatworm (Don’t look it up if ur not into irl body horror but tldr, extra limbs)
Him and his brothers are little fish demon guys and the rest (thousands) of their siblings got “that one scene where the barracuda comes and fucking eats the children”TM
He is silly goober and I got suddenly the inspiration to draw him during class because teehee funny deformed banking better call saul ass fish man

I really wanted to push the boundaries of what is acceptable as a Bug pokemon. Buerbeiro is that pokemon, a frog displaying the multiple legs that indicate it's infected with Ribeiroia worms. This gave me the perfect idea of a froggy version of the demon Buer, and the two ideas ended up a match made in heaven... or frog hell. Toxidrum is an older design and almost became a split evo for a previous fake of mine, but I shelved it before bringing it back here. It's another pokemon that will be receiving a mega. Buerbeiro are a frogs body, malformed and piloted by a colony of parasitic worms. By rotating like a wheel they are capable of great speed, scattering poison and spreading their members into the environment at a far greater rate than they ever could alone. Toxidrum are amorphous pokemon with a solid steel shell. Their bodies are comprised of a highly radioactive element which makes them dangerous to even be around, their presence corrupting the environment. Luckily they don't like to move far from their colonies, grouping together as they hide in their shells. --Attack Info-- --Ability Info--

a few more pieces of chonar concept, character, and creature art. The farm of Mehdepulah's famous historical castle is much more extensive than this, but an entire city is built around it. when i design the city and landscapes of mehdepulah I can design the farm more clearly. it hasn't changed a lot in like 2,000 yrs
the kekanid with the shapeshifting tail is a revived oc from when I was 10-11 and learning abt frogs. this guy is based on the golden poison dart frog and the mutation effects Ribeiroia flatworms have on tadpoles. i think I named him seth? Idr. but he has a kinda parasyte relationship w his worm. he can turn any of his limbs into huge weapons with multiple sets of eyes, fingers, teeth, etc
the cows and big dogs are studies of what livestock would look like on mehdepulah and iesulvia respectfully

The frog-mutating flatworm (Ribeiroia ondatrae)
These frogs are infected by a parasite, that goes through a very complicated life cycle as shown above, but it infects frog tadpoles and causes them to grow extra limbs and makes them unable to move. This then allows birds to eat the frogs and when they defecate, they'll release the parasite back into the environment to continue its life cycle.
My own creature has been infected by something and is infectious itself, so it could be infecting local wildlife and causing offspring to be born as mutated versions of what they should have been.

???-TUNEIROBIA [Tune-Ribeiroia-Microbia] -Bug/Poison -The Tuning pokemon -Ability: Attune* -Dex: "This parasitic worm is attracted by sound and its always looking out for pokemons with strong voices. They are unable to produce any sound of their own, but when they attach themselves to other pokemon, they segregate an hypnotic serum that makes the host to sing to this parasites will, and they can even alter its victims voice. This process however has a fascinating side effect on wild BARITOADs." -Moveset: -Bug Bite -Poison Tail -Infestation -Metronome ???-BARITOAD [Baritone-Toad] -Water -The Chorus Pokemon -Ability: Liquid Voice -Dex: "BARITOAD is well known for its wonderful voice and the fact that it is always singing a marvelous tune. This pokemon is able to change its song at will, often to reflec its own mood, but the real beauty of this pokemon's melody shows when a group of them get together and sing at unison. However, this pokemon's ever-changing reverie often attracts the dangerous TUNEIROBIA." -Moveset: -Water Pulse -Round -Uproar -Supersonic -->Evolves bye lvling up while TUNEIROBIA is in the party<-- ???- MUTANTENOR [Mutant-Tenor] -Water/Poison -The Headliner Pokemon -Ability: Noise Pollution** -Dex: "This pokemon's voice is said to be so magnificent it can shake you to the core, but listening to it for a long period of time can cause nausea and disorientation. With its many limbs this pokemon is able to move incredibly fast bot in and out of water, but when it starts to sing, it will stay perfectly still until it has finished. " -Moveset: -Boomburst -Hyper Voice -Muddy Water -Echoed Voice *When to pokemon is hit by a sound based move, its HP is restored **Sound based move become Poison type and have a 15% chance of leaving the opponent poisoned

So, uhm, how RAW do you think ‘Amphibia’ is willing to get in the biology department, in your opinion?
They already did parasitic mind-control fungus and pacman frogs, so it’s all kinda fair game.
They could still have a proper “Halloween” episode coming up, after all.
Also read on to find out what this gorgeous kid
is all about, but proceed at your own peril. You have been warned.
These froggers suffer a classic case of the Epomis. More info and fascinating footage on this astonishing frog hunter can be found starting here.

Ribeiroia is a genus of freshwater trematode parasites. They have a complicated lifespan wherein frogs often serve as second intermediate hosts. Tadpoles infected with Ribeiroia often grow deformed limbs upon morphing into frogs. They may have extra legs, extra toes, or fail to develop any limbs at all. Evidence suggests that Ribeiroia infections have been on the rise, and may pose a threat to amphibian conservation efforts. The specimen above is a field-collected Pacific tree frog [Pseudacris regilla] photographed by Dave Herasimtschuk.

I feel like this is one parasite people stopped talking about as much. Cordyceps, Leucochloridium and Ampulex all kind of hog the spotlight they used to share with Ribeiroia but Ribeiroia is arguably scarier and more shocking than all of them.

*ribeiroia
This photograph shows a Pacific tree frog infected by parasites from the genus Rebeiroia. They can cause extra limbs - or no limbs - to grow. This typically makes them easier prey for birds which completes the parasites life cycle.
#im studying this for my test#ribeiroia ondatrae to be precise.. the cercariae encsyst in the developing limb buds of tadpolese and become metacercariae and cause#supernumary limb malformations in the adult frogs/toads#TBFFF - I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO SPELL RIBEIROIA EITHER. i just knew it started w an 'ri' not a 're'#this limb malformation was blamed on pesticides etc but actually its just this parasite#just becoming more common only POSSIBLY bc of pesticides escarcebating it (idk if there's evidence of it tho) but more importantly#eutrophication (ie excess nutrients lilke phosphorous and nitrogen from fertilizers being introduced to an ecosystem) increasing the density#of the intermediate snail host in habitats#guys pls send good vibes to me for this test bc i totally bombed the lab exam which was 20% of my grade and i really want a B+/A- even if#thats unrealistic god just give me an A- i wanna go to grad school T_TTTTT#stem#biology

My design of the Scarlet King - Devourer of Gods, King over Kings. I started from the idea that he is constantly suffering, and therefore based his appearance on a variety of real-life deviations, mutations and diseases.
His many legs were inspired by the parasitic worms ribeiroia, and its effect on infected frogs. But there is also a connection with teratomas, because his multi-footedness is not the result of infection with a parasite, but of an unsuccessful fusion of his body with seven others.
The strange shape of his skeleton with bone growths and curved spine is a reflection of the strange disease that the Scarlet King suffers from. It is closest to the progressive fibrodysplasia known to us - an extremely rare painful disease in which muscles, tendons and cartilage are slowly replaced by bone tissue. Over time, people may even lose limbs, due to the fact that the bones will constrict the blood flow
And these strange shaggy tentacles are taken from feather starfish (don't google it, they're f***ing scary).
