I think this is the first art i've posted here in possibly over a year. uh. lol. based on the popular pic of anne hathaway from 2009 Twelfth Night. This is a minor crackship-that-is-rapidly-ceasing-to-become-a-crackship from a fantasy (theoretically, romcom) AU with @thefandomcassandra about Kay and Trucy parent-trapping their respective father figures...even though one is the feared Fallen Angel, The Demon King, and the other is the Hero of the Realm, Ordained by the Heavens to slay him.
(The Kitakis and Alderman Kyubi are kitsune, ofc, and have a bit of a habit of meeting up in the spring, getting wasted on shrine offerings, and making out about it, when they're not guarding their respective communities, running one of many bakeries, or mayoral duties.)

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies
Candice Arme - YES
Candice confronted Ted face-to-face when he killed her, so he would’ve been seen in her Divination Seance.
Rex Kyubi - PARTIALLY?
This is another case that would be clear-cut if it weren’t for the fact that Kyubi was drugged and unconscious before he died. He wouldn’t have seen a damn thing, so a Divination Seance wouldn’t have shown this.
That is, if L’Belle didn’t go out of his way to taunt the Alderman right before skewering him, if we go by the case’s opening cutscene. Now, the Divination Seance wouldn’t have displayed exactly what L’Belle said, but the Alderman would’ve definitely recognized it as L’Belle’s voice. I don’t think this would’ve been enough to clear Tenma’s name, but it would’ve destroyed L’Belle’s story that he wasn’t at the crime scene.
Constance Courte - YES
Constance and Means were arguing face-to-face before he stabbed so yeah, he’s done.
Clay Terran - YES
Not only would it have been clear that Clay was carrying Solomon and not the other way around, he probably would’ve seen the face of the Phantom before he was stabbed.
Metis Cykes - YES
Metis was stabbed in the chest so she almost definitely saw the Phantom face-to-face. There is a chance that the Phantom was already wearing the mask when he did the deed, but considering it was Metis’ mask, he probably killed her before he could grab it.
Jack Shipley - YES
The last thing Jack saw was Marlon, so not only would his Seance prove that Sasha wasn’t the killer, it would show that Marlon was actually trying to save Jack’s life.
How many Ace Attorney cases would be solved immediately if they used the Divination Seance?
For those who don’t know, the Divination Seance is a mechanic introduced in the 6th main Ace Attorney game: Spirit of Justice. The way it works is that a spirit medium communes with the soul of the dead, and makes their final memories visible in the Pool of Souls. All of their senses are displayed, from what they saw to what they heard to what they smelled before they died. In game, the Divination Seance is usually used to Phoenix’s disadvantage (obviously), but what I wanted to know is what would happen if the Divination Seance was used in cases that took place not in the Kingdom of Khura’in. If the court could see what the victim saw seconds before their death, how much would that fuck over the real killer? Let’s go through the death of (almost) every single victim and find out: would this case be solved if they used the Divination Seance? This will be updated with each game every day, unless I forget.
(Thanks to my buddy Keepay for helping me out with this! He did all of the AAI 1 and 2 cases because my memory on those is pretty fuzzy.)
Things to Remember:
Divination Seance is derived from the victim’s memories, meaning if they don’t recognize a person’s voice, they won’t be able to identify it.
Divination Seance only works if the victim’s true name (and less importantly, what they look like) is known.
The victim has to actually be dead for a Seance to be possible.
Ace Attorney 1
Cindy Stone - YES
Frank had already broken into Cindy's home when she walked in, so there’s no way she wouldn’t have seen him before he bludgeoned her. A Divination Seance would clearly show this.
Mia Fey - NO
At first, this looks like the exact same situation as the Cindy Stone case. Mia and Redd White were face-to-face before she died, so he would’ve clearly shown up in the Divination Seance, right?
But then there’s that damn updated autopsy report.
Edgeworth stated that Mia lived for a few minutes after she was hit, and Divination Seances only show the last few seconds of the victim’s life. This means that the Divination Seance wouldn’t have shown the actual bludgeoning, or Redd White. As suspect as that updated autopsy report is, Edgeworth himself said that he never forged evidence, so we have to take him at his word here.
Jack Hammer - YES
Dee and Jack were face-to-face when she pushed him. I don’t think we ever learn the details of their struggle, so maybe it would still be unclear whether or not it was self defense on Vasquez’s part.
Robert Hammond - YES
Again again, Yanni and Hammond saw each other before Yanni shot Hammond in the heart. We don’t get a lot of details about what happened in the shack, but we have no reason to assume this wasn’t the case. I promise these are gonna get more interesting.
Gregory Edgeworth - MAYBE
So in this case, the Divination Seance would show that the defendants (Miles Edgeworth and Yanni Yogi in this case) are innocent, but wouldn’t show who the culprit is, so I’m gonna say at the very least, it’s partially solved. The Seance would reveal that Gregory didn’t die when Miles threw the gun, and that all three of them passed out before the second gunshot was fired. However, we know from Von Karma’s testimony that Gregory was unconscious when he was shot, so he wouldn’t have seen his killer’s face.
But! Miles said that he heard Von Karma scream right after he threw the gun, obviously that means that Gregory heard it too. The question is, would he have recognized it as Von Karma’s voice, and would it have shown up as Von Karma’s voice in the Pool of Souls? To answer that, I point you towards Inga’s Divination Seance. Here he recognizes the voice he’s talking to over the phone as one of his subordinates (after a refining from Rayfa) but even after it’s proven that Datz was the one laughing over the phone, the sound still shows up in the pool as just “Laughter.”
This is why it’s important to remember that the Divination Seance is derived from the victim’s memories. Inga recognized his subordinate's voice (but probably not his name, lol) but he didn’t know what Datz’s voice sounds like, at least not well enough to recognize it. In the same vein, Gregory would absolutely recognize Von Karma’s voice because they just spend the whole day in court together, as well as them meeting during the investigation.
Now what this really all boils down to is if Gregory would recognize Von Karma screaming in particular. Miles didn’t recognize the voice even though he also knew Von Karma, but he was also a stressed and delirious kid when he heard the scream. Gregory’s memories are probably more reliable, and he’s probably heard Von Karma shouting either during the Inherited Turnabout investigation or the trial afterward. But, as much as I wanna say this is a yes, we can’t know for sure.
Bruce Goodman - YES
After that long-winded explanation, we’re back to another easy one. Bruce and Damon were alone in the evidence room when Damon did the deed, so he would clearly show up in the vision, or at the very least, his voice would be heard.
Neil Marshall - NO
This is another Gregory situation, but unfortunately much more unclear. Neil was unconscious when he died so he wouldn’t have seen Gant but at least it would be clear that neither Ema or Darke killed him. Neil had already knocked out Darke when Ema pushed him, and it would’ve been clear that Neil didn’t die from Ema’s shove, but much later. Of course, since Neil was blacked out, the argument could be made that Darke woke up first, and simply stabbed Neil while Neil was unconscious. Even with the Divination Seance, there’s no way to prove that Gant did the deed.

ª: She was stabbed, right? Like, she was poisoned first, but she died from the stab wound first, if I'm correct. Do tell if I'm wrong, lmao.
*: Accidental deaths
^: Natural death
¨: Deaths by suicide
°: Executed (Joe Darke's method of execution isn't mentioned, but if we assume Japanifornia goes by Japan laws, then hanging is the only method of execution used. Probably a higher number of deaths by hanging then, whether you believe some people got executed or not. Also, a lot of the killers in TGAA probably got executed, too? I just jotted down the confirmed cases, but yeah.)
(Also, von Karma died of 'Something'. Who knows. Of being too ashamed, maybe. Sucks to be him).
I probably missed some characters/omitted them, because who knows, it's my list I guess. If I forgot someone important do let me know!

Ace Attorney: IF (... Part 12)
Apollo's second year as a lawyer still has him meeting Athena Cykes, who joins up with the Mia and Co. Law Offices at Prosecutor Wright's recommendation while he was in Europe on business (assisting Agent Lang and Franziska on an interpol case). And with Athena comes a wealth of new changes to our familiar cast.
For starters, Athena didn't lose her mom seven years ago. The Phantom attempted to kill her, but only managed to place her in a coma before Blackquill intercepted him. The enigmatic figure slipped away because of Blackquill''s naivete, and he was suspected of the attempted murder of Metis Cykes. However, his conviction was less severe because there was evidence of a possible third party - it just wasn't conclusive enough for the court to clear him of charges. His sentence would change depending on if Metis ever woke up or not; if she died, he would be executed. For now he was set for life imprisonment until they could confirm her condition.
Athena still had the drive to become a lawyer as a result, and the hope that her mother would wake up someday. She wants to save Blackquill, too. So on the surface this seems the same… But already with Metis in a more hopeful position, albeit still vulnerable and shaky, we have potential here. (人◕ω◕)
Athena's first case is supporting Diego as his co-counsel. Their client is Viola Cadaverini, and their opponent is Lana Skye. Athena and Widget provide indispensable insight with the analytical psychology, and they catch the real perp who framed Viola in a bid to strike at Bruto, who's on his deathbed these days. The Cadaverini family in general is on the decline with criminal activity, so while Viola is still an intimidating woman she's only a loan shark. Viola thanks Diego for looking out for her, and teases the squeamish Athena some more.
After that first outing in court, Athena craves more action, more experience. But with four lawyers in the office, business is pretty much at a trickle and they feel it's in Athena's best interest to stay a co-counsel for the time being. Which is why when she hears about a murder happening in Nine-Tails Vale, where Apollo's gone visiting with his sister, Athena is out the door in a flash. Jinxie's father is still on trial for Rex Kyubi's murder, and the whole case goes about the same just with Diego and Mia offering more grounded moral support for the newbies after that rough first day in court against Blackquill.
The key difference is in this timeline, it's the real Bobby Fulbright. He wasn't killed and replaced by the Phantom in this timeline. (人◕ω◕) Chief Prosecutor Byrne assigned him to Blackquill in the hopes of getting the convicted out of his cell and used to prosecuting again. Metis is still in a coma, but Byrne never believed Simon was the culprit and he and Tyrell are still looking into that case. Simon still loathes Bobby's upbeat attitude, but he gets a lot less shocks in his cuffs because it's not the Phantom messing around. (人◕ω◕)
The Shipshape Aquarium case unfolds differently with Azura living in this timeline. The drama is more around the orcas, whether or not they killed the veterinarian. Jack, Azura, Marlon, and Sasha are all witnesses; Norma is also present, but didn't witness anything, she's more like a nosy reporter. It's another case of accidental death, in the end; Herman was trying to adjust his TORPEDO equipment in the orca pool while it was drained, and slipped and fell, hitting his head on the skull rock. Coming across the scene, Marlon and Sasha were scared the orcas might get accused of murdering the doctor and concealed his body in the skull rock to dispose of it later. However, the orcas wound up trying to "save" Herman anyway and that's how the body was discovered by Jack. Marlon takes the brunt of the heat for tampering and the scene, but Sasha also accepts responsibility and both face time in detention with Azura and the Captain waiting for their return to the aquarium. Mia and Athena tackle this case, while the boys watch the office~
In the Themis Legal Academy case, Mia and Sebastian are invited as guest lecturers for the lawyer course at the school; for the prosecutors, it's Phoenix and Lana. Athena and Apollo tag along while Diego watches the office, and this time they both get to see the mock trial as Mia and Sebastian give up their seats for the newbies - Sebastian is open to it because he graduated from the academy and wanted the chance to visit with his old teacher anyway. However… Professor Courte is framed for the murder of another staff member, her moment of discovering the body is particularly damning. Juniper breaks out of her distant facade to beg Athena to take up the Professor's defense, and the students rally behind her. Sebastian is a little put out at another attorney showing interest in the case… But with Constance's support, he sees this as an opportunity for new blood to gain experience. As invested as he is to see his old sensei walk free, he'll let the kids take the reins… Even if he's just a few years older than them…
It goes about the same in establishing Professor Means was the culprit, and he framed Constance in order to salvage his own reputation as she caught him accepting bribes for grading students. That theme of clashing values in the school still holds true - and ultimately the students choose to believe in Professor Courte, even with Simon Blackquill as the prosecutor. Even with Juniper being the Snitch that was sniffing around for the Professor's sake. Juniper, Hugh, and Robin still mend their friendship, and Juniper reconnects with Athena. … And also falls for Apollo, but is that really a shocker? (人◕ω◕) With Constance cleared of wrongdoing, she can help the academy get back on the correct path. And she's proud of the current crop of students~
With Apollo meeting Junie, Athena thinks it's only fair to finally meet Clay, who Apollo sometimes brings up offhandedly. (人◕ω◕) Soon enough, the seven of them become friends (yes, even Myriam is roped into the bonding, snooty box girl~). They've all got high hopes for the future, even Hugh who wants to start fresh and complete his senior year the right way. But before long, December is upon them. … And that means an encore at the Cosmos Space Center. (人◕ω◕)
This time, in addition to the rocket blowing up, the Director Yuri Cosmos is killed. Clay Terran takes the fall for Solomon Starbuck, his mentor and friend. Because Clay knows Solomon was drugged up on his medication; he couldn't possibly have killed anyone. And if he was put on trial, the poor man was going to be so lost and depressed. Solomon already went through enough with the HAT-1 Miracle seven years ago. That's why Clay jumped into the fire, letting the police arrest him. Of course Apollo was never going to let his buddy get convicted, but Diego takes the lead on this case to keep the defense as impartial as possible. But Clay does make it difficult to defend him; as much as he trusts Apollo, he also knows that the Director went around Solomon's back to keep them safe. That's only going to crush Solomon when the truth comes out, that the launch was never going to happen because of the bomb threat.
The first day of trial still gets interrupted by the bomb going off, but there's no murder to uncover this time because Candice Arme survived the attack from Ted Tonate, who was arrested by the real Bobby Fulbright. Candice, Aura, and Solomon are called in as witnesses when the trial reconvenes in the coming days. The trial drags because of the Phantom's interference, messing with evidence and getting them to look all the wrong ways. Apollo still doubts Athena a little because of her repressed memories of when her mom was attacked seven years ago… But with Diego and Mia's help he tempers those doubts. Even they can see Athena is holding something back, it just becomes clear Athena is connected to the space center through her comatose mother. Through talking with Aura and Juniper, they learn about Athena's past and her desire to save Blackquill.
In the final day of the trial they connect the current incident with seven years ago, and mid-trial Metis wakes up in the hospital, which gets the Chief Prosecutor to arrange for Blackquill's release as she clears him of wrongdoing with her testimony. From here, it's a matter of cornering the Phantom, who posed as Fulbright at various points during the investigation and particularly on the day of the launch. He's a tough cookie, someone that just won't give up until the bitter end… But eventually Diego nails him, with Blackquill, the real Fulbright, Apollo, and Athena all helping out. It's a team effort, and Clay is declared Not Guilty. (人◕ω◕)
Athena, Blackquill, and Aura get to reunite with Metis once it's all over. For her it was just yesterday that her life was nearly taken, but for them it was seven long years… And they're glad it's over. (人◕ω◕) Athena will continue to work with Mia, Diego, and Apollo. Blackquill will rejoin the prosecutor's office properly, and will finish his mentorship with Metis in due time~ … Even if she feels that Simon has little more to learn from her. (人◕ω◕) Apollo never loses his friend, and continues to grow as a lawyer~ Clay and Solomon will go up with the next rocket in a few months. Juniper, Hugh, Robin, and Myriam graduate around this time, and set about their respective paths. Fulbright stays on as Blackquill's assigned partner. The future looks bright. (人◕ω◕)

Random list because ADHD. Counting up the myriad ways people are murdered in the core six Ace Attorney games. Since this is a list of murder methods, deaths that are self-inflicted or accidental are not included.
Let's give it up for stabbings; By far the most popular method of killing someone, followed shortly by bludgeonings.
Interesting to note: Murders became a lot less diversified in Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. Where other games have their killing methods spread around more, nearly every death in DD and SOJ is either a stabbing or a bludgeoning.
Also, let's give it up for Doug Swallow! To date the only murder victim in the core series to be killed by electrocution. What a unique way to go.
Stabbings: 11 - Neil Marshall, Metis Cykes, Bruce Goodman, Valerie Hawthorne, Elise Deauxnim, Rex Kyubi, Constance Courte, Clay Terran, Manov Mistree, Puhray Zeh'lot, Inga Khura'in
Bludgeonings: 9 - Cindy Stone, Mia Fey, Russell Berry, Kane Bullard, Shadi Smith, Candace Arme, Paht Rohl, Archie Buff, Dumas Gloomsbury
Gunshot: 5 - Gregory Edgeworth, Robert Hammond, Turner Grey, Pal Meraktis, Romein LeTouse
Lethal Fall: 2 - Jack Hammer, Dustin Prince
Asphyxiations: 2 - Juan Corrida, Taifu Toneido

I finished The Monstruous Turnabout (5-2) yesterday and, well, it's pretty obvious Damian Tenma became one of my favourite characters. I'm just confused that people don't seem to see the potential Rex Kyubi × Damian Tenma has?
I mean, they were close friends. they clearly understood each other when nobody did. They probably had a past together. They are parallels (Nine-Tailed Fox and Tenma Taro). And they also have a great extrovert × introvert dynamic.
Anyway here's my contribution
#ace attorney#aa#dual destinies#aa5 spoilers#aa5#Damian Tenma#Rex Kyubi#I shall name this ship#Tenyubi#I think it sounds cool#I actually have much more I can talk about them but didn't want to make this post too big#Well I really liked the whole case though. Except the culprit. I'm not gonna talk about him

OTHER NOTES:
I honestly thought blunt force trauma would be the highest when I first listed these. I was wrong!
I know (MAJOR PLVPW SPOILERS) that no one in PLVPW actually died except Newton Belduke, but I still felt as though it was prudent to list them here as victims.
Tasing is a form of electrocution.
Technically, falling and getting crushed could both be forms of blunt force trauma, but “blunt force trauma” is more “something hits you” than “you hit something” imo? I think it’s a distinction worth making.
There are a lot fewer poisonings than I thought. I didn’t know whether to put Diego’s poisoning under Memories or Beginnings, so I put both.
Simon Keyes was pretty inventive tbh
English Turnabout is the only case in PLVPW with a proper name. I generally ID the chapters with court segments as the ones that are the “case names”, which works for every case but the last.
I might have missed some? I know for sure I missed the original Di-Jun Huang, but I couldn’t find his cause of death poking around the wiki. Let me know if I missed any more!

Ace Attorney Ethnicity/Race Headcanons
With AA being originally set in Japan, then haphazardly localized to Los Angeles, the vast majority of the characters seem stuck in a vague limbo. Are they Japanese-American? Are they white? (And if this is supposed to be LA, where the heck are all the other ethnicities??) Well, a whole lot of the cast falls into either of those categories, I think, but certainly not everyone - and I think it’s fun to try and imagine the specifics. Hopefully I’m not being insensitive, and let’s have some fun speculating! (Warning: These are very long.)
Let’s start with the characters that have probable canon ethnicities. It’s pretty clear that the Feys, the Kitakis, the Tenmas, the Toneidos + Bucky Whet, Victor Kudo, Rex Kyubi, and Paul Atishon-Whimperson are all Japanese-American to some degree, with the Feys having some very distant South Asian in their background (owed to Ami originally being Khura’inese). Bikini is the only exception to the Fey rule, and that’s mostly because I think it would be funny for her to be the one white lady who decided to help out at the Japanese spirit channeling village and be inducted as a nun. I think all of them (save Bikini) speak Japanese either fluently or at least a fair amount, except for Paul. Paul touts his and his father’s supposed connection to the “old country” while caring little about the language or traditions or anything else beyond advancing his already pretty pitiful political career.
Thanks to TGAA, we also know for a fact that Ryunosuke is Phoenix’s ancestor in the localized canon, which means that Phoenix is also to some degree Japanese-American. My personal headcanon is that his mom (named Tori Naruhodo) is from Japan, got married there, had Phoenix, then had a messy divorce with her husband, moved with her very young son to America, and raised him there (eventually meeting her future partner, Rita Wright, because I would like to push my agenda of Phoenix having two moms). Phoenix’s last name is actually Naruhodo-Wright, but he usually tells people it’s Wright so it’s shorter on paperwork. Nick knows a little Japanese, but not much - he’s forgotten most of it. (Taketsuchi’s existence proves that the Paynes are at least partially Japanese-American, too.)
Unlike the majority of the English names in the series, which were largely new and pun-based creations, “Edgeworth” is more of a translation of “Mitsurugi” than anything else. As a result, I imagine that Edgeworth’s great-grandparents immigrated to America from Japan, and made an attempt to translate their surname because they feared discrimination and tried to assimilate. Gregory grew up the only Asian kid in a small, heavily white town in Louisiana (because I saw the hc of him having a very slight occasional Southern accent due to his general Atticus Finch vibes and I LOVED that), and moved to Los Angeles to study law, where he would meet his wife, June Waters (who would unfortunately die of complications from cystic fibrosis when Miles was two). While Gregory is fully Japanese (though very disconnected from his culture because of his family’s attempts to assimilate - he’s trying to relearn it), June is white, and thus Miles is half-white, half-Asian.
Metis has heavy Japanese aesthetics, so I imagine she was Japanese-American, too. (Not really relevant, but given the naming theme with her and Athena, I also assumed that A. her husband was named Zeus and B. he was just the WORST, explaining why he’s not around.) And I know this is the world of anime and real-life phenotypic rules are out the window, but given how different Athena looks from her mom, especially the bright orange hair, I also assumed that her father was white, making her half-white, half-Asian as well. However, despite Simon’s similar Japanese aesthetics, much like Bikini, I think it’s funnier to imagine that he (and by extension, Aura) is white, but is just a massive weeb. Enough people seem to hc him, and by extension, Aura, as British that I honestly just roll with it at this point.
The von Karmas are German, obviously (though considering the revelation that they're descended from Karuma, Genshin's former apprentice, they are also part-Japanese and their name was Germanified somewhere along the way - my hc for how that happened is very specific and complicated however so I won't go into it lmao), and save for their overseas lawyering in America, they likely grew up there - but the Gavins have the vibe of “American parents found out they were 3% German on 23 & Me and decided the obvious course of action was to name their children Kristoph and Piano.” The two don’t speak any German, and Klavier hadn’t even been to Germany until he studied abroad there in his late teens - he’s just a weeb for Germany. Thus why he cannot seem to use Achtung correctly, ever, at any time.
The Khura’inese characters (Dhurke, Nahyuta, Rayfa, Ahlbi, etc.) are, naturally, pretty much all South Asian (with Peeslub’n being a white exception since he supposedly joined the religion from outside - though it was entirely for personal gain - situationally he’s just Bikini, But Evil), with all the major characters originating from Khura’in save for Datz, who, since he’s canonically an immigrant, I arbitrarily decided was originally Nepalese, but snuck over the Khura’inese border (and brought all of his Nepalese hip-hop music with him). I also think both Zak and Magnifi are South Asian - and if Magnifi is, that means Thalassa is as well (though she is so light-skinned that I’m gonna argue she had a white mom). This means that Trucy is almost entirely South Asian (and this is why I love fanart of dark-skinned Trucy so much, hell yeah), and Apollo is at least partially so - which is where Jove comes into the picture. One of my other posts talks about how I think his real name is José Justicia, and Jove Justice is just the stage name he adopted while on the road, meaning that Apollo is just the lightest-skinned mixed Latino/South Asian dude ever. (Since he still doesn’t know hardly anything about his parents, I like to think that Apollo wound up spending the entirety of his life thinking he was white, then gets a DNA test and is like “whoa.” Also, all the main characters of AA are now legally non-white, so racists are now banned from playing Ace Attorney. Boom.)
Diego, Dee, and Juan (and I guess Manuel even though he’s barely a character) are all likely supposed to be canonically Latine - the Rivales family is as well, and I like to think they are the mafia that Dee is associated with, and calls upon to threaten Nick in Turnabout Samurai. But I also like to think the Marshall brothers are Latino, too - though, while I think the first three folks speak some degree of Spanish (Diego is fluent in my mind), the Marshall family has lived in California for so long that they no longer really speak any at all - save for the bits of “cowboy Spanish” that Jake likes to throw in his speech in order to seem more authentic (even though he is 100% not an authentic cowboy).
Unfortunately for everyone, the only canon black character is... Marlon Rimes. God help us all. I get that this is a Japanese game, and Japan is not known for their massive thriving black population, but, c’mon, seriously?? So, rather than having the franchise’s only black character be a rapper that tried to murder a dolphin, I like to imagine that two lovable characters - our friends Raymond and Master Jeff - are both half-black, with Raymond being mixed black-and-white (no, I’m totally not projecting), and Jeff being Afro-Latino (inspired by Chad from Bleach lol). I mean, look at their dark skin, and their lovely poofy hair! They don’t look white to me! (Also, I am deeply in love with the concept of these two sharing hair care tips. Ray sometimes running out of time and just sticking his pick under his hat. Adorable.)
Kate’s birth family was French, and I suspect she went to visit them once, only for them to, predictably, be terrible. However, she fell in love with the country, and is trying to reconnect in her own way, even as she greatly enjoys her life with Jeff. (Thus explaining why she uses so many French words, despite having been raised by Jeff since she was a baby.)
Kay’s family is Irish on Byrne’s side (his parents were Irish immigrants who came here and opened a very successful restaurant, meaning that Byrne was pretty rich, but in the good, giving sort of way) and Uyghurs on her mother’s side (her mom, Nur Qasim, came to America after escaping China as a refugee, and became an outspoken environmental lawyer - she and Byrne met in law school, but she ended up dying in childbirth). After Byrne’s death, Kay would have moved in with her grandparents, but her paternal grandmother was suffering from dementia as her grandpa struggled to take care of her, so she ended up living with her uncle Adil, a kind but awkward businessman living in Europe who doesn’t really know what to do with a child, but is trying his best.
I like to think Justine Courtney is British, only because I thought her VA did a good job in AAI2′s fan translation, and her VA either did a British accent or was British (I’m unclear). By a somewhat similar token, my friend watched a playthrough where Gant had an Australian accent, and for some reason I’m absolutely here for it, so I imagine that to be true now. Finally, I can’t explain it, but Blaise Debeste gives me Canadian vibes. (To all Canadians reading this, I am incredibly sorry.) That, combined with the vaguely French-adjacent last name, leads me to believe that both he and Sebastian are of French-Canadian descent. (I like to think that when he was a child, Sebastian spoke French with his mother, Dinah, who was an absolute sweetheart - but after Blaise made her “disappear,” he didn’t let Sebastian speak it anymore.)
My friend and I decided it would be rad if Detective Badd was ethnically Jewish. He’s very cynical, so I don’t imagine he’s particularly religious anymore, but grew up with the traditions and still celebrates some of the holidays (and that time-honored tradition of getting Chinese food on Christmas).
Lang is East Asian, of course - he’s from Zheng Fa, after all, which is just fake China. However, I don’t think Shih-na/Yew is from Zheng Fa, and instead have a rather complicated backstory for her where she was actually a war orphan of Romani descent, her parents killed in an internal conflict in Borginia, and she was taken in by Alba’s smuggling ring to be raised as a spy and trained killer.
Oh, and Larry is white. He just is. Also, I think Bikini is secretly his mom. Don’t question it.
Aside from these folks, I’ve probably either forgotten, or I just haven’t thought about them much. If you have any ethnicity headcanons of your own, I’d love to hear them! (And once again, if I have been in any way insensitive, please, please let me know. I’m always trying to learn and improve.)
