#he becomes the archon not for the glory of house pavus but to change tevinter for the better#do you think he has days where he’s scared he’s become what his father wanted all along even if he took his own path to get there#do you think he wonders if his father would’ve been proud of him? does that thought make him feel better or worse?#i fucking love archon!dorian. it’s an incredible arc for his character#he ran away from tevinter to protect himself. he returned to tevinter to protect others#after years of trying to fight for good in the magisterium with almost no success. after his closest ally wrongfully lost her seat#after seeing minrathous getting wrecked THREE TIMES over the course of veilguard. even if rook saves minrathous the dragon does damage#after thinking all hope is lost. all his magister allies dead. elgar’nan in control of minrathous. 9(?) years of work completely for naught#still deep in his heart he loves tevinter. he loves mae. he loves the shadows. he loved felix and alexius. he loved his father#for so long he ran away from his problems. avoided thinking about the wrongs he witnessed. made wry jokes about blood magic#but no more. he will rebuild tevinter from the ruin elgar’nan left in his wake with his own two goddamn hands#Anyway. I unironically think that people are so invested in Barbara as Batgirl vs. Oracle because they haven't bothered to read any of Babs' stories as Oracle nor have they actually read Cass or Steph's Batgirl runs. They're basing their opinions purely off of adaptations and vibes

#poetry.#kimon friar.#odysseus elytis.#ancient greek poetry.#rereading the sovereign sun as summer sweeps to a close and this stuck out so lovingly.#i remember finding this book tucked away in a small and unfrequented section of my library a handful of years ago.#it swept something in me / something ancient and full of light.#i had to find my own used copy as soon as i realized i couldn't keep it / mark it as my own. there is such love taken into it?#the translation of so much intimate glory and understanding of the universe / of life? the attempt of it.#it feels crafted so carefully. the importance something that could not be understated? i return to it every couple of years -#to reignite that spark. the language in it is just. spellbinding. it reminds me of a warm breeze at twilight / where the light is dim /#and everything feels possible in a way it was not before.#might post more of my favourites !!! just had to share this ending piece of the introduction 💕

Hm... I do not have a good perspective on this, because I've only read an itty bitty bit of The Iliad and I am now about halfway through The Odyssey, but I think that Odysseus is a much more sympathetic character than Achilles.
#it's really interesting to me though because... like i imagine both were about equally sympathetic to the greeks? i'd imagine?#like it's interesting to me that it's probably just the cultural difference of. like. not a very “honor/glory in war” culture. i guess.#also it's interesting to me because i've read the aeneid... three times but always with a focus on the first half#so maybe odysseus is just more sympathetic to me because the first half of the aeneid is basically the odyssey#i still think of aeneas-at-the-end as somewhat sympathetic but it's because you see him devolve i guess? you see why he is like that#whereas. and again it may be because i haven't actually read very much of the iliad. i feel like achilles just starts off Like That#when i'm done with the odyssey i'll go back to the iliad and update my Takes on it.#i was supposed to read the whole iliad for class like for last week but i was so busy that i just. did not get to it.#i have to read the odyssey this weekend for class next week so. i figured it made more sense to read the Relevant Stuff rather than try to#catch up on both in one go. but i do hope to return to the iliad.#also god bless the emily wilson translations of these things. i don't know greek so ig i can't have an opinion but#the vibe i'm getting is that emily wilson translations are to greek epics what shadi bartsch translations are to roman ones#dante dicit#classics#aeneid#odyssey#iliad#oh also it's just SUPER interesting to see all the commonalities between the odyssey and aeneid. like “ohh so that's why there's a stag” et

idk how controversial this is but I’m actually such a big fan of s3a. it’s the exact kind of phantasmagorical bullshit that makes me kick my feet and grin like a fool. the whole show goes haywire and completely abandons the generic structure of the police procedural, and it totally gets away with it because at this point the narrative has unravelled so much that the show can safely let go of whatever conformity it was barely hanging onto in s2b. and on a metafictional level the shift in external genre strangely parallels the progression of the two main characters: just as will and hannibal have changed each other, the show too has revealed its true nature
#this is even further emphasised by s3a exploring hannibal’s backstory#like he’s been ripped open and the show has too#and now will’s peering in and trying to find the core of hannibal#so he can understand him#and in doing so finds the heart of the show#in all its gothic glory#but by the end will still doesn’t accept himself#and when he rejects hannibal and attempts to return to normalcy the show also returns to its old police procedural structure#except now it’s fragmented and unlike itself#much like will’s s3b persona#because he simply cannot return to how he was in s1#it doesn’t matter if he marries molly or tries to make a nuclear family for himself it’ll never be as it was#and he ultimately can’t deny himself#which is literally reflected in the show’s style because it’s so unlike s1#even if it tries to return to its original genre tropes and conventions#it ultimately reverts back to the gothic wonderland of s3a (the dragon fight + fall)#I didn’t mean to continue the analysis in the tags LMAO but I guess that’s how it is#I was too sleepy to articulate my thoughts two hours ago but now it’s 1:30am and I am so Awake#nbc hannibal#hannibal#hannibal meta#will graham#hannigram#ghost speaks
