Leeli has FINALLY had her kittens!

There are at least* six. All are TINY wiggly charcoal kittens. Yep, all of them, six tiny black kittens with their white mama, they're an interracial family. xD

All of them seem to be healthy and Leeli is doing well! She started having them at about 7am and kept on until about 10:45ish. Never in my WILDEST dreams did I think she would have more than two live kittens after what she'd been through, and now she has six adorable little fluffy jellybeans curled up next to her, all alive and nursing and squeaky.

*she might still have one more to go, I feel another kittenish lump in her. Maraly waited two hours between her 4th and 5th kittens though, and this happens sometimes, so I'm not worried.

Maraly helped me midwife! I had her locked up at first, because she was upsetting Leeli, but I finally let her out while Leeli was distracted with kitten 3 and Maraly EAGERLY helped with the last three babies. She jumped right in and helped clean them!

The kittens are already purring and I- 😭💜💜

There are two extra small ones, but I think those are 5 and 6 so they should start to bulk up soon.

Leeli chose a nice box with a blanket in it for her nest (we specifically made it for the girls so I'm glad one of them used it) and it's right in our living room. She let me be right there and help her just like Maraly did, and she was also grateful I was there. I had to take off work today to be here, but it was very, very worth it.

Once again, kittens won't have names until they're at least a month old and we know they'll all make it! I'll try and keep you updated on both litters (11 kittens!! it's like in ye olden days of my childhood! xD)

In Baltimore City, MD: (4) chunky, vocal 3-week-old kittens are looking for rescue ASAP! - BARCS, Baltimore MD

Tofu 1-4- 3 weeks, unaltered, 1M/3F

The four adorable, chunky, wiggly 'Tofu' kittens were found without a mom in someone's backyard. We're glad they were found when they were, as temperatures were dropping and they also desperately needed medical attention.

Upon examination, our vets noted that all of the kittens had conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infections, so have been started on antibiotics. At this time, all of the kittens are mobile, vocal, and actively trying to suckle/eat.

The shelter is no place for such young and sick kittens to stay, so we are seeking immediate rescue placement for them.

To keep everyone updated about why I've been gone.

One month ago today, I found a sweet little 4 week old kitten alone in my backyard. He was sick, starving, had a wound on his neck, and was covered in fleas.

When we rescued this tiny, sweet little dirty kitten (who we named Balkie), we knew he was sick, but we had no idea just HOW sick.

By week two of having him, we rushed him as an emergency patient to the vet because he was limp and unresponsive. He had a fever of 106 and he was having seizures. The vet said she'd speak with an internal specialist. Then, a few minutes later, we were told by this vet he had a bacterial infection, he was put on antibiotics, and sent home. He got a little better, but then, he tanked again. He still had a fever when he returned to his follow up appointment.

We said the antibiotics were not working, they just weren't the right kind for whatever he had, he was still hot as ever and sick and couldn't do anything. He needed a different medication. The same vet said no.

We had him back to the vet a week later, and he was seen by a different vet. She tried to help by giving him new antibiotics and medications, but she wasn't sure what it was, either, but she did try.

He only got worse on that medication. Scared of everything, anxious, couldn't remember things, couldn't remember faces, couldn't remember the cats he'd been living with. We were at a loss, we had no idea what to do.

Then, this past Saturday came.

Balkie was suddenly completely paralyzed. He could no longer move. He could no longer swallow on his own. He couldn't hold his head upright on his own anymore. He had a fever for the third time, and he was dying. Legitimately dying.

Mom took him to the vet that morning at 11 AM, fully believing they were going to put him down.

But, we got a new vet on Saturday. She went through his records from the previous visits, and realized, an internal specialist had written in his file that they believed he had Toxoplasmosis. And the first vet, WHO HAD SPOKEN TO THE SPECIALIST, simply would not tell us that and refused to treat him for that.

So this sweet little baby had a parasite from raccoons and rats that was attacking his brain and paralyzing him, and had been suffering with it for a month.

The new vet put him on Clindamycin, the only thing that treats Toxoplasmosis. Gave him a fever reducer and a steroid.

By the next morning, he could swallow on his own again and wanted to try walking. In 48 hours, he was no longer paralyzed, and could stand up in the litter box on his own without our help.

This morning, he is running around, he hasn't fallen over, he tried climbing the cat tree all by himself. He's happy, he's playing, he's the kitten I thought we lost when his fever came back the second time.

I can't believe how much he's improved. He's recognizing our faces, he's happy to be here, he wants to be held and is no longer terrified of everything coming and going. He's just my little man again.

I have spent $1,000 saving this sweet baby boy, and he will be special needs for the rest of his life because the Toxo damaged his brain. His head wobbles when he gets excited, he gets weak after a while of running, and his balance is not the best anymore, so he needs around the clock care for right now.

All of Pickle’s rescued life it has been winter and I have been wearing chunky wool socks. I don’t think she’s prepared for the light cotton socks of spring.

Happy Birthday Leeli's Littles! 💜

On this day one year ago Leeli FINALLY had her kittens and I was overjoyed to find that not only did SHE make it through labor, but so did SIX of her kittens. We had no idea if ANY of them would be born alive and all but one was- I had expected the reverse ratio.

Happy Birthday to Madia, Farid, Meggie, Violet and Dustfinger, and an honorary happy birthday to Tulip and their 7th sibling who didn't make it. (that one should probably be named Pine, or Pine Cone, since it's buried underneath our teeny pine tree)

So, fun fact, this^ is Madia as a literal newborn. Apparently a perk of having raised all the kittens is that I can now almost always tell them apart when looking back at their baby pictures. Little peanut does NOT fit in my hand anymore, but being able to see when she could is so special. 💜

Proof of purchase: yes, our white Bengal kitten DID have six tiny black kittens, what's your point? (it's genetics, apparently, you need two cats with a snow Bengal gene to make a snow Bengal, and, well, the babies' father was a street kitty and obviously didn't have a snow gene. So, the charcoal genes took over and we got six tiny black precious babies- though two ended up being silvers, so there's that too)

Madia, right now, literally as I type this. I think when she fell asleep on my chest as an infant she imprinted on me. Something about being right next to my heart. 💜
