"That is sick!": Newt Gingrich loses it over ad informing women they can secretly vote for Harris
Just in case you need any more evidence that there is a full on open war against women and their opinions on anything.
I don't think anyone would have *dared* to say anything like this 10 years ago. That's how bad it's gotten.
Can you imagine speaking against a woman's right to participate in democracy?
#vote harris#Republicans want total subjugation of women#thanks for motivating more women to vote newt#women are 2nd class citizens to Republicans

Is Trump A Fascist
Is Trump a fascist? Many people of the American Left like to call Trump a fascist. But is this true? I will be exploring this question by using the essay "Ur Fascism" by Umberto Eco. In this essay Eco lays out the 14 characteristics that fascism has. You might wonder what qualifies him to outline the features of fascism. Eco is a social and political commentator as well as philosopher who grew up in Mussolini's Italy so he seems like he would be quite good.
1. Cult of Tradition - the first characteristic of fascism is traditionalism. Traditionalism tends to want to uphold traditional status quos which means it is opposed to progressive ideas. This is evident in the United States and with Republicans with opposition to gay marriage due to marriage being between a man and woman being tradition since the times of Rome as well as views of abortion, American Exceptionalism - this tends to lead to celebration of the subjugation of natives, American imperialism, and Romanticisation of white supremacist ideas such as Manifest Destiny. The fascist Cult of Tradition also laches itself onto religion to try and give their movement validity in the eyes of the religious as well as making them more likely to support the party. In states such as fascist Italy and Germany this traditionalism also showed itself with mythology. Mussolini wanted to restore the glory of Rome and many prominent Nazis were Norse pagans with Hitler himself having an interest in the occult. Make American Great Again could be seen as a return to American tradition and can link to myths about the greatness of America's past. Trump absolutely stirs up traditional ideas (obviously not to the extent of wanting to restore Rome) and beliefs within his followers. He also aims to appeal to the religious of the country due to the Evangelicals being a key and easy group to win with conservative views.
Here we have Trump standing in front of a church after gassing a bunch of peaceful protestors, he seems to be holding the bible upside down because he doesn't really give a shit and is just performative
2. Rejection of Modernism - The second characteristic of fascism is a continuation of the first. An embrace of traditionalism requires aspects of modern society to be rejected. This usually comes as a rejection of post Enlightenment rationalism and progressive ideas. It can also come in the form of dismissing features of modern society such as media and democracy. This is evident with Trump through his dismissal of media criticism by calling it "fake news" despite not being able to prove it's fake which would be easy if true
3. Irrationalism - This feature is also known as "The Cult of Action for Action's Sake." This feature of fascism believes that action should be taken without thought for reflection on actions. This often appears as a rejection of intellectual thought and science and again can show up as attacks on modern culture such as media. This feature is evident in Trump with his dismissal of doctors and sometimes just ignoring them during the Covid-19 pandemic. It can also be seen again in his fake news attacks
4. Can't accept criticism - Fascism sees criticism of the state as a form of treason so is unacceptable. Fascism also fears such speech being allowed will expose the issues with that system. This can link to Trump in two ways. The first is again with fake news. The second is with his utilisation of cold war propaganda to scare people with no understanding of what Marxism and socialism actually are. He does this by just calling all his political rivals such as Biden Marxists and in one of his totally 100% unbiased surveys implies you are either an American or a radical Marxist
5. Fear of diversity - This feature is pretty self explanatory. Fascism seeks to exploit fears of difference. Due to this fascism is inherently racist and xenophobic. This is also evident in Trump with his anti Mexican comments during his election campaign stirring up anti Mexican xenophobia. It's also somewhat evident by him trying to associate Covid with Chinese people
6. Exploits social frustrations - during times of economic struggle fascism strives to appeal to the middle class and increases divisions between them and lower classes. This isn't done by Trump
7. Nationalism - A fascism form of nationalism is routed in xenophobia and tries to sow distrust of marginalised groups. While Trump is absolutely a nationalist leader with America First and American Exceptionalism he doesn't use nationalism like this
8. Humiliation due to enemies power - The enemy is simultaneously too strong and too weak. From what I can think of, this isn't a feature of Trump
9. Opposition to pacifism - Fascism sees pacifism as collusion with the enemy. Pacifist groups were among the groups that got sent to concentration camps under the Nazis. This characteristic doesn't apply to Trump
10. Elitism - Society has a hierarchy with the party and it's society at the top, those beneath should be looked down upon. While Trump may not do this directly, it is absolutely evident within his followers who see themselves as better than others
11. Heroism - it is desirable to die for the country. Trump does not have this feature at all
12. Masculinity - Women are inferior and sexually non conforming people are also inferior. This can also be utilised as using weapons as a way to express masculinity. In this sense, this characteristic is present in Trump with his staunch defence of American gun culture and the 2nd Amendment.
13. Populism - Fascist populism sees the people as one and the leader as the interpreter of their will. Due to this democracy is no longer present. While Trump is a populist leader he doesn't necessarily do populism in a way that is anti democracy. However, this can be argued against due to his stated unwillingness to accept the election results and calling his supporters to commit acts of voter intimidation
14. Newspeak - Newspeak is the Orwellian idea of simplifying language in order to make dissent impossible, stopping dissent is a key part of fascism. Trump does not show this characteristic
In conclusion, Trump shows at least 8 of these 14 characteristics based on my own quick look at him. While this may be low for Trump personally, within his followers there absolutely is greater amounts of fascist characteristics. It is also possible that he could be slowly building up if he truly is a fascist. also you can probably tell I put a lot more effort into the first section of this than later bits, oh well maybe it'll actually be interesting next time

سفید گھر [press secretary said.
The international community, she reiterated, is watching. “The United States is watching. It’s whether they let people depart the country who want to depart, whether they treat women across the country as they have committed to treat them and how they behave and operate. And, therefore, we’re not moving toward recognition,” she insisted.
“At the same time, we’re dealing with a reality world here where we have to engage in order to get American citizens and others out of the country,” she said.
Meanwhile, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul led committee Republicans in a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to continue US sanctions against the Taliban. “With the withdrawal of all US military forces and diplomatic personnel having been completed while Americans and thousands of our Afghan allies remain trapped on the ground, the Taliban holds all the cards. Despite the public statements that have been made, we urge you and the rest of the Biden Administration to maintain a very healthy dose of skepticism about what the Taliban’s intentions and abilities are, they said. “With the Taliban’s capture of Kabul, their continued ties to Al-Qaeda and track record of horrific governance have become even more concerning. We must maintain what leverage this administration has left to not only secure the evacuation of our citizens, allies, and Afghan partners from the clutches of a terrorist group, but to prevent another atrocity on American shores like the tragic attacks on 9/11,” the Republican lawmakers said.
“We believe it necessary for the Treasury Department to maintain and potentially expand its current sanctions efforts targeting Taliban forces, leaders, and the third-party entities that fund them. It is imperative that no sanctions against the Taliban are lifted to ensure our national security and the security of our citizens and partners is protected,” they said.
Congressmen Carlos Gimenez and Ted Budd have introduced Prohibiting Assistance to the Taliban Act to prohibit American taxpayer dollars from being sent to the Taliban in the form of foreign aid or economic assistance. “The same Taliban government that gives aid and comfort to Al-Qaeda terrorists should not receive a single cent from hardworking American taxpayers. I’d like to thank Rep. Gimenez for leading this important legislation,” Budd said. Congressman Joe Wilson said that composition of the proposed “Taliban terrorist government confirms a return to total subjugation of women and an invigorated conspiracy to attack Americans abandoned by US President Joe Biden in Afghanistan while coordinating suicide bombers across America”. “It is gruesome that Biden is not capable of responding when attacks occur and he and (Vice President) Kamala Harris must resign to protect American families,” he said.

US not in a rush to recognize Taliban govt: White House
WASHINGTON: The United States is not in a rush to recognize the new interim government in Afghanistan, the White House said on Wednesday, asserting that it is in talks with the Taliban to get American citizens out of the strife-torn country. "No one in this administration, not the President nor anyone on the national security team, would suggest that the Taliban are respected and valued members of the global community. They have not earned that in any way, and we have never assessed that. This is a caretaker cabinet that does include four former imprisoned Taliban fighters," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at her daily news conference. The administration has not validated that, she said. "We have not conveyed we're going to recognize it and nor are we rushing to recognition. There's a lot they have to do before that. What we are working to do is to engage with them because they oversee and control Afghanistan right now to get American citizens, legal permanent residents, SIV applicants out of Afghanistan," Psaki said. "We have to engage with them," she said. "But to engage with them -- their new acting interior minister is a Haqqani network terrorist. He's wanted for a bombing that killed six people, including an American. He's believed to have participated in cross-border attacks against US troops. There's a USD 10-million bounty on his head. Why are we engaging?" she asked. Taliban's hardline interim government includes specially designated global terrorist Sirajuddin Haqqani as the acting interior minister. "Should we not talk to the people who are overseeing Afghanistan and just leave it and not get the rest of the American citizens out?" the White House [press secretary said. The international community, she reiterated, is watching. "The United States is watching. It's whether they let people depart the country who want to depart, whether they treat women across the country as they have committed to treat them and how they behave and operate. The point isn't equal man/woman work load anymore.
When women are shouldering a much bigger workload than men in every country from the richest ones to the poorest ones, it absolutely is the point. If y’all refuse to look at who is doing the most work - and this also includes how much of our economy is held up by horrifically underpaid and abused workers in the third world - then your “work should be optional” will functionally just mean “work should be optional for privileged people”.
As for the draft, poor people in the USA are being de facto drafted every day because right wing politicians have made university education and healthcare extortionately expensive and kept wages among the lowest in the first world, and then they sleaze up to poor neighborhoods and tell young people there that they can have their university degree paid for if they go and risk their life in a warzone. If MRAs actually gave a shit about military exploitation, they’d be at minimum voting Democrat in droves (not that the Democrats are by any means spotless but they’re a damn site better than the Republicans, and statistics show again and again that men are more likely to vote Republican than women) if not outright marching in the street. But all they do is needle feminists over something that at this point is totally hypothetical because all they actually want is to be able to subjugate women the way past generations did.
"If women and men are equal, why don't they get drafted/get sent to the military/forced to do hard labor jobs?" is a good point, but not for the reason misogynists may think. The point isn't to A) say women are lesser than men OR B) say we need to force women to do the same things as men.
The point is nobody should be drafted. The point is nobody should be forced to work hard labor or time-extensive, underpaid jobs to survive. The point isn't equal man/woman work load anymore. It's a matter of free will in late stage capitalism. Work should be optional.

Identity Politics
One of the big issues in our political discourse is around what are called “identity politics”. To be short and blunt, the way we collectively discuss it is a total fucking trainwreck.
I’ve talked about this issue before in the recent past, but just to quickly recap it, a big point of friction in the Democratic Party primaries between opponents Fmr. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign and Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign was of the latter’s focus on economic issues and the former’s focus on issues related to race and gender. After Clinton’s loss in the general election, there were several pundits, whose political views range as widely as conservative, liberal, and Marxist, who criticized her campaign’s failure to understand how much of an issue economic disenfranchisement really was for such a large part of the populace, vociferously criticizing its focus around so-called identity politics.
I’ve discussed at length my own major issues in how Hillary Clinton’s campaign discussed issues related to identity, and how it was the most major manifestation in how superficial our broader discourse around it really is. However, the critics suggesting to abandon identity politics in general and focus on economics are just as hopelessly tone-deaf as the Clinton campaign/Democratic Party.
One of the biggest recurring questions in the wake of Clinton’s electoral defeat was “how did the Democrats lose so much of the white working class, especially when so many more of them voted for Barack Obama in past elections?”. That’s a good question to ask, but what absolutely drove me crazy is that nobody seems to inquire at all about working class people of color. True, voters of color went for Clinton over Trump in massive numbers, but those numbers are only among the pitifully small percentage of those populations that actually voted. It’s a problem that nobody ever bothered to ask why so many working class people of color didn’t vote. The only response Democrats seem to have towards non-voters, especially after 2000, is to disparage them as lazy, stupid, and in this past election, sexist, racist, or exhibiting their white privilege (how do all these political experts fail to understand that insulting people you want something from is a shit strategy?).
For critics on the left that criticize identity politics, their whole framing of it is all wrong. Thea Riofrancos and Daniel Denvir have discussed how this divisive debate on the left is oversimplified to the detriment of all sides. Leftist economic wonks, particularly Marxists and socialists, would do themselves some good to get a better understanding of how racial issues intertwine with economic issues if they hope to gain more support from people of color. Another example of this disconnect was highlighted by Johns Hopkins University professor Lester Spence, whose book Knocking the Hustle: Against the Neoliberal Turn in Black Politics criticized David Harvey’s seminal work A Brief History of Neoliberalism for its lack of analysis in regards to race in its critique of neoliberal economics. Spence argues that the people subjugated in a society structured in white supremacy (he focuses on black people) are impacted even more by the effects of neoliberalism than white people. Yet another example, historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz discusses economics as they relate to Native Americans currently and historically in her books. Any other critiques of identity politics on the left that aren’t grounded in an understanding of Marxist or socialist theory would do better to start reading up on Marxism and socialism.
Conservative critics of identity politics dismiss the concept of it off-hand as completely frivolous. A distressing number of liberals adopt this critique in this exact same way too. They’re all full of shit, especially the conservative critics. Right-wing politics are just as wedded to identity as much as left-wing politics. The only difference is that right-wing politics focuses on the identities of the dominant class; white, male, heterosexual, economically elite, and Christian.
In her seminal work The Second Sex, the thesis of Simone de Beauvoir’s argument of how women are oppressed is that our society has been structured with men as the norm and women as the deviation to the norm. This analysis can be extended to other identities as well; whiteness is structured as the norm and all other races are a deviation, heterosexuality is structured as the norm and LGBT+ is a deviation (see the term “gay agenda”), Christianity is the norm and other religions are the deviation. These identities as the norm have been so entrenched in our collective consciousness that we don’t even recognize or discuss them as identities.
The point of this blog has been to analyze portrayals related to identity in cartoons, which is only a small manifestation of how it plays out in society. The two Disney films Tangled and Frozen were named that instead of Rapunzel and The Ice Queen because they thought the less gender-neutral names would not appeal to boys. Disney films with more masculine titles like Aladdin, The Lion King, Tarzan, or Hercules are never assumed to be a turn off to girls in their audience. There’s a long history of female characters having more passive roles in comparison to active male characters and existing in relation to those male characters. Media starring white protagonists are viewed as universal while media with protagonists of color are viewed as “niche” or “political”. Media where the main character is supposed to serve as the audience surrogate are almost always white men or white boys.
Gong back to how conservatives adhere to identity politics, another reason that their identity politics aren’t recognized as identity politics is because they have a long history of discussing it using euphemisms. As Republican strategist Lee Atwater explained in a 1981 interview:
You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968, you can’t say “nigger” — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I’m not saying that. But I’m saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”
As a result, policies that target black people for incarceration are called “tough on crime” or “law and order”. Those black people being targeted are called “thugs” or “criminals” instead of “niggers”. Latino immigrants are dehumanized through terms like “illegal aliens” instead of more direct slurs like “spic” or “wetback”. Arabs and Muslims are dehumanized by the terms like “terrorist”. Meddling and violent regime change in other countries is re-framed as “spreading democracy”. Persecution of LGBT+ in society is re-framed as “religious liberty”. This terminology is the legacy of the “Southern strategy” first adopted by Richard Nixon in order to win over white voters anxious about the demands for racial equality from activist groups, particularly Democratic voters disillusioned by Lyndon Johnson’s passage of the the Civil Rights Act. This was decades before the term “political correctness” entered our political lexicon.
Long before the 1950s and 1960s, presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson spoke out against what they called “hyphenated Americans” as a way of pandering to xenophobic attitudes towards European immigrants (who were not considered “white” in the late 19th/early 20th century). That same Woodrow Wilson screened Birth of a Nation at the White House when it premiered. The characterization of the inhabitants of foreign countries as “backwards” and “savage” in 19th and 20th century literature from the likes of Rudyard Kipling or Ian Fleming were used to justify Western imperialism throughout Africa, Asia, and South America.
Hell, dominant identity politics goes all the way back to Christopher Columbus and Hernan Cortes. Those damn sure weren’t other European Catholics they were conquering, raping, and pillaging in the Americas.
Folks on the left better get a better grasp of what identity politics actually is and how to discuss and advocate for it in a much more productive way because the right sure knows their way around it (no matter how much they deny it). Dismissing it outright or perverting it to take marginalized groups for granted are not the ways to go if you are truly invested in dismantling structural oppression.

X != Y but they both suck, honestly
A popular fallacy I’ve been seeing a lot of lately on Tumblr, and frankly, I’ve been seeing it for a long time anywhere political discussions happen, goes like this:
X is bad.
Y is not X, and Y is not as bad as X.
Therefore Y is not bad.
So, by this logic:
Brutally beating your kids with wire hangers and wooden boards until they’re black and blue is bad. Spanking is not brutally beating your kids. Therefore, spanking is not bad!
But also by this logic:
Being set on fire is bad. Being kicked in the balls is not being set on fire. Therefore, dudes have no right to complain when they’re kicked in the balls, because it’s not as bad as being set on fire!
Or here’s another one:
Being denied your rights and completely subjugated by the opposite gender is bad. Being slut-shamed and made unable to get justice for your rape is not a total denial of your human rights. Therefore, being slut-shamed and made unable to get justice for rape is not bad! Stop whining, feminists, and go help the real victims of patriarchy over in Saudi Arabia!
Also by this logic:
Nuclear holocaust that wipes out all life on earth is bad. A terrorist attack that kills hundreds of people is not a nuclear holocaust that wipes out all life on earth. So stop whining, Islamophobes! Even if there’s a terrorist attack, you have no right to complain, because at least it wasn’t nuclear holocaust that wipes out all life on earth!
Or try this:
Nazis are bad. Guys who hire people to dance around with signs that say “Death to Jews” because they think it would be funny to see if the people would do it are not Nazis. Therefore they are not bad, and people should get a sense of humor and not take away the guy’s YouTube show!
But consider, by the same logic:
Being brutally beaten by baseball bats is bad. Having your YouTube show taken away is not being brutally beaten by baseball bats. So what are PewDiePie and his supporters complaining about?
Or here’s this:
Dying is bad. Being forced to carry a baby that you don’t want to term is not dying, generally speaking, so it’s not bad! Therefore we should try to force women to carry babies to term and not be able to get abortions.
But on the other hand:
Dying is bad. Being unable to get a job isn’t dying. Therefore why are Republicans so worried about jobs and illegal immigrants? Being unable to get a job isn’t bad at all, because it’s not as bad as dying!
Basically any argument that defends Y by saying “But it’s not as bad as X, which is a very bad thing, and therefore Y is perfectly fine” is by definition wrong. You have to be able to make the argument that Y is perfectly fine without bringing X into it, because at the end of the day, nuclear holocaust that wipes out all life on earth is worse than everything else that you can think of, so all of your problems are worthless and you’re a whiner for complaining about anything, if you consider “X is worse than Y and therefore Y is okay” to be valid. Your argument is invalid if you can’t objectively prove that Y is not bad, or that the direct causal alternative to Y is worse (not a random X that isn’t actually caused by not doing Y, but the actual opposite of Y -- for example, if the argument is made “vaccines cause autism!”, it is valid to say “lack of vaccines causes death, death is worse than autism, therefore vaccines are better than no vaccines.” Of course, it’s also valid to say “No, they don’t”, because they don’t and it’s been proven repeatedly, but when people won’t respond to science, sometimes you need to just school them with plain old logic.)

He’ll be back: why old age can’t keep Arnold Schwarzenegger down
The man they call the Austrian Oak has swung a sword, a shotgun and a heads pencil. But as he grows 70, is time eventually catching up with Arnie?
All his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger has embodied dominance. Mr Olympia, Conan the Barbarian, the Terminator, the Governator on screen or on a pulpit he was the biggest, the most prominent, the mightiest. Whether holding a sword, a shotgun or a ministers pen, as a movie attribute or himself, he exulted in success in victory.
Crush your adversaries, assure them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the women. Ill be back. If they dont have the intestines, I call them girlie husbands. He was, and seemingly always would be, the Austrian Oak.
A preternatural grade of trust, focus and desire propelled him from the forest village of Thal to triumph in bodybuilding, Hollywood and US politics. The accent and a identify once regarded unpronounceable did nothing to slow him. Even the jokes, such as Clive James equating him to a brown condom full of walnuts, exclusively bolstered the mystique.
But as Schwarzenegger approaches his 70 th birthday on Sunday he meets a relentless, insidious foe not even he was able to overcome: age. Schwarzenegger, after all, is human. And the clock, unlike alien piranhas and competitive cyborgs from the future, cannot be stopped. As it ticks, his domination ebbs.
He exactly wants to be number 1, in whatever context. He would do anything to sustain it. But the ageing process … its never acceptance, said Barbara Outland Baker, a former lover. I visualize deep inside him there is some discomfort: What am I supposed to do with this tour? I only want to be number 1. If not number one, what am I supposed to do?
Schwarzenegger persists far-famed, favourite and busy manically busy. Early mornings you can blot him in Santa Monica, belting up Ocean Avenue on his bicycle, moving through red lights for his cardio. He still shoots cast-iron, plays, travels and endorses political candidates and causes.
He is like a Terminator machine in terms of ceaseless croaking, leading, disappearing, endeavor, straining, endeavor, said Bonnie Reiss, world director of an institute that bears his call at the University of Southern California.
Striving, but no longer subjugating. Schwarzeneggers recent films have fizzled at the box office. He stumped in vain for John Kasich in last years Republican primaries. Chatter of him guiding for Senate or mounting some type of political comeback has faded. The former act hero who led California is greater number one.
He has invested his remaining political uppercase in the worthwhile if arcane issue of redistricing reconstruct – restraining the gerrymandering which bedevils local and regime polls and fuels partisanship. He is ginning up money and notice for a action which will reach the Supreme court of the united states in October.
Hes a gadfly. He doesnt truly have much of a constituency in the Republican party, said Jack Pitney, a politic prof at Claremont McKenna College. California Republican dont talk about him any more. Hes basically a non-person.
Schwarzenegger used to be political royalty. He married Maria Shriver, John F Kennedys niece, and as an outsized GOP outsider brushed off sexual harassment accusations dubbed gropegate and prevailed Californias governorship in 2003.
It was a rocky term. He mocked Democratic antagonists as girlie mortals, clashed with unions and other strong interest groups and watched the recession erupt a monetary crisis. He precluded meltdown and triumphed re-election by rebooting his administration, moving to the political centre and grinding out legislative increases. Upon leaving place in 2011 he adulterated his bequest by travelling the penitentiary sentence of the son of a political friend. His divorce from Shriver amid revelations of an thing and secret son with their housekeeper further dented his reputation.
For all his political attainments he mobilised California in the fight against climate change the loss of manager clout must suffer, said Outland Baker. He really likes renown and supremacy and the movie industry cant provide the same level of real fulfillment, she said. Their relationship ended in 1974 but they remained in touch and he established an interrogation for her 2006 memoir, Arnold and Me: In the Shadow of the Austrian Oak .
Schwarzenegger, who became a US citizen in 1983, dreamed of the White House. Back in early January, during the confirmation hearings for now-embattled Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Senator Orrin Hatch posed a question about obscenity, an issue that has always obsessed him. If appointed, would Sessions consider bringing back obscenity prosecutions and cracking down on the porn industry? "Would you consider reestablishing a specific unit dedicated to prosecuting this category of crime?" asked Hatch.
Sessions — who said he wasn’t fully aware that the Obama administration had shut down the Obscenity Prosecution Task Force in the first place — noted that obscenity prosecutions have long been a part of the work of the Department of Justice, and that he’d happily consider bringing the task force back, were he to head up the department.
In many ways, this was an expected answer, typical of the Republican Party’s long-standing claim to be the nation’s protectors of morality and decency. When Sessions’ Republican predecessor, John Ashcroft, took office, he notoriously covered up the exposed nipples of statues like Spirit of Justice. Even in these more permissive times, the Republican Party has repeatedly declared porn a “public health crisis.” Attacks on “obscenity” — a vaguely defined category of speech that, due to being prurient, explicit, and lacking redeeming social value, isn’t considered protected by the First Amendment — are of a piece with this mindset.
But the man who nominated Sessions for attorney general is hardly a typical Republican. As many outlets have noted, President Trump once appeared on the cover of Playboy, and has had cameos in a few softcore porn flicks. Add to that the fact that Trump’s most ardent and vocal supporters — the shitposters of 4chan and Reddit’s /r/The_Donald, “free speech” warriors like Vice co-founder Gavin McInnes — are themselves obsessed with pushing the boundaries of community standards of decency, and the situation becomes very odd indeed. Racist memes; violent, aggressive trolling; and repeated rape threats hardly seem in line with the goals of a party that claims to stand for family values and decency. (In an extreme example of cognitive dissonance, former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos even once hired a porn performer as a bodyguard.)

How did we get to a place where champions of the obscene and offensive are in league with someone who claims to want to crack down on those things?
Potentially prurient content presents a tricky political situation that often results in strange bedfellows. Viewed from one angle, pornography and obscenity put creators on the front lines of the progressive fight for free speech, because they’re challenging social norms and fighting for the right to express themselves however they wish. Viewed from another angle, though, the same content may be upholding those social norms, by oppressing and dehumanizing women, people of color, and other marginalized communities. Feminism’s “porn wars” of the 1970s and ‘80s saw anti-porn feminists like Andrea Dworkin allying with the right wing because their goals aligned, even though their reasons didn’t. In some ways, the Trump administration, which has brought the racist, white-nationalist fringe with traditional Republicans, inverts that decades-old alliance.
The champions of obscenity are in league with its enemies
But to what end? What would drive someone like provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos to align with a traditional conservative like Sessions? As the Trump coalition has settled into power, some hints have begun to appear.
The answer certainly isn’t a genuine advocacy for free speech. For all the talk of “free speech” many Trump supporters use to defend their most vicious trolling — including the president’s habit of insulting anyone who dares to disagree with him — few people in this shaky alliance seem to have the stomach for freedom of speech when it’s coming from the other side. White House chief strategist Steve Bannon habitually refers to the media as “the opposition party.” Trump has declared that a slew of media outlets that have questioned his version of reality are “the enemy of the American people.” And even supposed free-speech warrior Yiannopoulos, who’s known for hurling quips like “Fuck your feelings” at anyone who protests him, demanded an apology after the mayor of Berkeley referred to him as a white supremacist. The most dedicated shitposters aren’t even guaranteed defenders of the porn industry: there’s plenty of overlap between the alt-right and the “no fap” movement, and posts within /r/The_Donald offer a wide range of views over how protected the work of pornographers really needs to be.
The real unifying factor behind this spin on free speech, as is often a case in oddball team-ups, is a mutual enemy. For many in the Trump camp, the fight to push the boundaries of decency only seems to be worthwhile when it ultimately upholds their conservative goals. It’s notable that the “controversial” ideas the conservative fringe’s shitposters want to be free to express aren’t new or novel. They’re advocating for a consequence-free opportunity to continue the oppressive orders of the past, remixed with more Pepes, explicitly racist imagery, and rape threats. For the anti-obscenity wing of the Republican Party, calls to Trump That Bitch, Grab America By the Pussy, and bombard any woman who advocates for her personhood with violent, explicit rape threats are ultimately tolerable, no matter how crass or obscene they are. And that’s because they’re essentially upholding the same power structure the Republicans have been protecting for decades.
The mutual enemy? The left, of course
Yiannopoulos, one of the alt-right’s most visible forces of obscenity, has been the clearest sign that this alliance has limits. His declaration of his status as a “dangerous faggot” was upheld and embraced, so long as he used his platform to mock women, people of color, immigrants, and trans people. When he actually ventured into truly controversial territory — noting that isolated queer teenagers might find affirmation of their identity in relationships with more experienced queer adults — the community swiftly cut him loose. The neo-Nazi right values its ability to be offensive when the end goal is to subjugate marginalized groups like immigrants, people of color, and the LGBTQ community. When those views are challenged, resisting the status quo becomes a form of obscenity that must be shut down.
Which is why when conservative ideology is out of favor, free speech, and the ability to advocate for the oppression of anyone who isn’t a straight, white man, feels important. But when conservatives are at the helm, there’s a renewed interest in authoritarianism, a damn-all-conventions attitude toward getting their way. Michael Malice, an Observer columnist who frequently covers the alt-right, tells me this: “A lot of [Trump fans] are very big on authoritarianism” when it means silencing the liberals they see as threatening their way of life. Even a Sessions-led crackdown on obscenity might be welcomed if it was “part and parcel of a broader crackdown on social liberalism,” one that would harken a return to a time when men had total control over women’s bodies.
The infighting seems inevitable
And in spite of some obvious ideological differences, it seems Sessions already has the support of many of those obscenity-loving shitposters. A Reddit post celebrating his confirmation met with a great deal of approval from Trump fans convinced the Alabaman will help return law and order to America. (The one recurring reservation there, of course, being Sessions’ on-the-record opposition to marijuana.)
Time will tell whether the alliance will hold. Feminists and conservatives united in their hatred of pornography didn’t manage to get it banned. The infighting that’s already emerged within the Trump administration (as well as the alt-right itself) suggests that the Trump coalition may be equally doomed. The appeal of authoritarianism, and the reassertion of white male privilege, may be seductive enough to unite the agents of obscenity with those who’ve dedicated themselves to fighting it. But it seems unlikely that it’ll be able to keep them together for the long haul.

'Dividable' Americans, Not Trump, Are America's Greater Weakness
Donald and Melania Trump take their first walk as President and First Lady.
It has been quite the new beginning for 2017. Now let us get accustomed to what seemed like the most unlikely of outcomes; i.e., the election of Donald J. Trump as president of United States of America Corporation, who managed to make it through the inauguration. Perhaps it was never in doubt, but it sure seemed that way.
I am not writing this as a Trump supporter, nor as a critic. To be either would be a giant waste of time and energy. As I have written on numerous occasions, the individual who plays the role of “Commander in Chief” is a focal point of public attention, with all the indicators and trappings of power, but he takes orders and implement policies and directives that originate from sources other than the American People.
You may find it hard to believe, but the President does not serve The People. If anything, he oversees their “management,” on behalf of those “behind the scenes” functionaries. The last president that dared attempt to take actions that would benefit the American People, was John Fitzgerald Kennedy. His killing, November 22, 1963, which seemed so senseless and cruel to me just 3 days into my 12th year on this planet, was a sad day indeed.
November 22, 1963 ~ one sad day for a 12-year old boy… and for the world.
I am not saying that the president does not serve The People to suggest that we have no power. Quite the contrary. Not only do we have power, we are the Power that makes things happen in this world… not just Americans, but The People of Earth. We use language, cultural, ethnic, and other factors, like religion, to emphasize our differences and even justify hostilities. They make it easy to dismiss or overlook so much that we have in common.
How does this behavior qualify as *being* the change that you seek?
Yes, there are people who simply want to take from the “rich”, but what we don’t realize, is that we are “the rich”. What is being taken from us ~ to the extent that we allow it ~ is hope, imagination, health, and our opportunity to grow and evolve in conscious awareness of the Amazing Power that is Within each of us.
I just finished reading The Secret Science Beyond Miracles (1948), by Max Freedom Long. It is an amazing treatise on the work, philosophy, and science of early 20th Century Kahuna culture in Hawaii. These people were the healers, sages, and wise men and women of their communities. They had a working knowledge of who they are, and their connection with both ancestral spirits (consciousness), and the Aumakua or “High Self”.
When you read what the Kahunas did routinely, day in, and day out, before the “Christianization” of Hawaii, you have a clue of powers that are vested in all Human Beings. Fire walking was just one of many amazing practices that were commonplace in Hawaii. But just as Hawaiians were induced to turn away from their working traditions to adopt new religious customs that did not work (Kahunas facilitated healings that modern medicine still can’t begin to fathom), so have we been taught to turn to the human “authority”, whose motivations are generally more for his or her institution’s gain, than for yours or mine.
A Constant Vying for Your Attention
Why do you think there’s such a constant and incessant push by corporations to get your attention or gather information about you? It’s because bringing ideas to your attention, acceptance, and adoption makes them real, makes them spread and grow.
We’ve been groomed and conditioned to be great workers and consumers… followers who need “heroes” and “leaders” to “look up” to. We’ve been taught to believe in a false inequity, created by force. Then, taught by abusers, we equate “force,” coercion (another form of force), and the use thereof, with authority, “civilization,” “freedom”, “truth”…. even love.
So it’s no wonder that certain “clans” of people, who have maintained cooperative relationships for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and who are well prepared and experienced to exploit the minds of multitudes, have shaped our worldview, relying on our proclivity to trust, as the indigenous people of the Caribbean did when Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492, looking for new sources of gold so that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella could fund their wars, and decided that he could use force to subjugate these people.
I have mentioned this title from time to time, but it stands mentioning here, A People’s History of the Unit ed States (PDF download), by Howard Zinn (1980 Longman), brilliantly documents instance after instance of deliberate, willful actions that, like a plague, infected, and then devastated the lives, cultures, traditions, and histories of millions of people. It will soon become evident that Columbus was the instrument, not the instigator, of these actions, just as POTUS has also had to jump through hoops set by current-day counterparts.
Obama Campaigned Against GMO But Signed Law to Protect Monsanto
Last year (2016), Barack Obama signed the DARK Act into law, which in essence, directly dishonored the People’s mandate that food products that involved genetically modified components be labeled. It struck down a law that passed in Vermont, and preempted labeling laws in Connecticut, Main, and Alaska, seed labeling laws in Vermont and Virginia, and prevented other states from adopting such legislation in the future.
And we just accepted this???
Mr. Obama’s action is actually easier to understand than the public’s non-reaction. He protected Monsanto from the consequences of The People’s inevitable awakening to how they have been systematically fucked over by institutions that they trusted were operating in their interest. Monsanto hasn’t operated in the public interest, but it was reasonable believe that the U.S. government agencies, like the USDA, EPA, CDC, etc., were. (I won’t include the FDA… I doubt anyone still believes they operate in the public interest… well, “Flat Earth” theory is making a comeback.)
Where were those people who were in the streets of Washington D.C. the other day breaking windows and burning cars, when Mr. Obama’s action was an affront to all to them, and Hillary Clinton would have continued the policies?
New problems created, none solved by calculated, organized, destructive acts.
This is not to say that Mr. Trump is inclined to repeal the DARK Act, since he hasn’t been required to offer an opinion about it.
Source: The Organic & Non-GMO Report.
Protests and acts of violence maintain tension and divisiveness, which tend to elevate the perceived need for security and harsh or “tough” responses instead of discussions about issues that need new approaches. The GMO debacle is just one of many.
International Old Boy’s Club
Mr. Trump is an “outsider,” but he’s an outsider who is on the inside. He would have had to be in order to be acceptable by the people/organizations that Washington actually works for. Notice how Israel was just fine with his election. President-elect Trump even insinuated himself into the U.N. Security Council condemnation of Israeli settlements on the West Bank (See Dec. 2016 Story), giving an indication that he would be more “pro” Israel. Never mind that Mr. Obama was directed (also in 2016) to send an $3.8 billion donation to Israel for 10 years, to do what they please, which generally means spending money on weapons that, among other things, they use against Palestinians on the Gaza Strip.
Donald Trump and Israel P.M. Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mr. Trump has already invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Washington in early February.
To his credit, Mr. Trump was the only candidate, among the Republican contenders and in the runoff with Hillary Clinton, who offered anything approaching sentiment that could be construed as desiring to establish peaceful relations between Israeli and Palestinians in the region. Everyone else babbled “tough talk” about “enemies” and vigilance, totally deaf, dumb, and blind to atrocities that Israel has been party to, like the false flag attack of the U.S.S. Liberty June 8, 1967, that left over 200 people either dead or wounded.
But then, that’s the larger web at work, because evidence is that factions in Washington, including President Lyndon B. Johnson, were complicit in the operation.
When you look at what has been done, and is being done, some of the policies that the government agencies are behind, such as:
insane vaccination schedules,
no inclination to cut back or remove mercury preservatives in vaccines,
fluoridation in water supplies,
more shots required as condition of entering public school
GMO and pesticide use on crops,
standard cancer treatment regimens (chemotherapy, radiation, etc.)
chemtrails in the atmosphere, and
many other initiatives, too many to list here,
May actually be how they “manage” the larger population.
As such, Monsanto may actually be providing a service of population management for United States of America Corporation. Mr. Obama’s signing the DARK Act into law, after it was passed by both the Senate and House of Representatives, would simply allow the company to know it won’t be subject to any indemnification efforts when the wheels of this great travesty finally fall off the bus.
We are so ready to point fingers at each other, demanding change in the other, without looking in the mirror.
The problem with this is that it cuts both ways.
What we seek, expect, or demand from others, we must also be willing to give. More specifically, we must be able to embody. If you know that your life matters, then it is your responsibility and opportunity to demonstrate that this knowledge is active, by showing others that you value their life too. If you know that all life is sacred, and every human is a Gift, then look for that Gift within yourself. As you exercise it and share it, you’ll start noticing it in others. Strength will come, because it will be much harder to divide, when “enemies” become friends.

Here’s a short glimpse of Howard Zinn. If you don’t read his book in its entirety, just familiarize yourself with some of the scenarios that he chronicles. It’s not the history that you learned in public school (after getting up-to-date on your shots).

He’ll be back: why old age can’t impede Arnold Schwarzenegger down
The man they call the Austrian Oak has swung a sword, a shotgun and a governors pen. But as he revolves 70, is time eventually catching up with Arnie?
All his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger has incarnated preeminence. Mr Olympia, Conan the Barbarian, the Terminator, the Governator on screen or on a rostrum he was the most difficult, the most prominent, the mightiest. Whether swinging a sword, a shotgun or a governors pen, as a film attribute or himself, he gloated in success in victory.
Crush your opponents, construe them driven before you and discover the lamentation of the women. Ill be back. If they dont have the intestines, I call them girlie mortals. He was, and seemingly ever would be, the Austrian Oak.
A preternatural stage of trust, focus and ambition propelled him from the forest village of Thal to prevail in bodybuilding, Hollywood and US politics. The accent and a call once deemed unpronounceable did nothing to slow him. Even the puns, such as Clive James equating him to a brown condom full of walnuts, merely bolstered the mystique.
But as Schwarzenegger approaches his 70 th birthday on Sunday he meets a relentless, insidious rival not even he can subjugate: time. Schwarzenegger, after all, is human. And the clock, unlike alien predators and competitive cyborg from the future, cannot be stopped. As it ticks, his ascendancy ebbs.
He precisely wants to be number 1, in whatever context. He would do anything to sustain it. But the ageing process … its never hospitality, said Barbara Outland Baker, a former lover. I repute deep inside him there is some annoyance: What am I supposed to do with this excursion? I only want to be number 1. If not number one, what am I supposed to do?
Schwarzenegger persists famed, favourite and busy manically busy. Early mornings they are able to spot him in Santa Monica, belting up Ocean Avenue on his bicycle, operating through red lights for his cardio. He still pumps cast-iron, behaves, travels and champions political nominees and causes.
He is like a Terminator machine in terms of ceaseless extending, disappearing, starting, striving, endeavor, endeavor, said Bonnie Reiss, world-wide director of an institute that countenances his figure at the University of Southern California.
Striving, but no longer quelling. Schwarzeneggers recent movies have fizzled at the box office. He stumped in vain for John Kasich in last years Republican primaries. Chatter of him moving for Senate or mounting some type of political comeback has faded. The former war hero who passed California is greater number one.
He has invested his remaining political capital in the worthy if arcane issue of redistricing reconstruct – restraining the gerrymandering which bedevils local and country polls and fuels partisanship. He is ginning up fund and scrutiny for a subject which will reach the Supreme court of the united states in October.
Hes a gadfly. He doesnt genuinely have much of a constituency in the Republican party, said Jack Pitney, a politic prof at Claremont McKenna College. California Republican dont talk about him any more. Hes virtually a non-person.
Schwarzenegger used to be political royalty. He married Maria Shriver, John F Kennedys niece, and as an outsized GOP outsider brushed off sexual abuse accusations dubbed gropegate and acquired Californias governorship in 2003.
It was a rocky term. He lampooned Democratic adversaries as girlie husbands, clashed with unions and other potent interest groups and watched the recession erupt a monetary crisis. He deflected meltdown and triumphed re-election by rebooting his government, moving to the political core and grinding out legislative gains. He’ll be back: why old age can’t preserve Arnold Schwarzenegger down
The man they call the Austrian Oak has maintained a sword, a shotgun and a ministers write. But as he revolves 70, is time eventually catching up with Arnie?
All his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger has exemplified dominance. Mr Olympia, Conan the Barbarian, the Terminator, the Governator on screen or on a rostrum he was the biggest, the strongest, the mightiest. Whether swinging a sword, a shotgun or a superintendents pen, as a movie persona or himself, he gloated in success in victory.
Crush your foes, investigate them driven before you and discover the lamentation of the women. Ill be back. If they dont have the guts, I call them girlie males. He was, and apparently ever would be, the Austrian Oak.
A preternatural degree of confidence, focus and aspiration propelled him from the forest hamlet of Thal to prevail in bodybuilding, Hollywood and US politics. The accent and a epithet formerly saw unpronounceable did nothing to slow him. Even the jokes, such as Clive James equating him to a brown condom full of walnuts, only bolstered the mystique.
But as Schwarzenegger approaches his 70 th birthday on Sunday he confronts a relentless, insidious rival not even he can conquer: duration. Schwarzenegger, after all, is human. And the clock, unlike alien predators and rival cyborg from the future, cannot be stopped. As it ticks, his preeminence ebbs.
He exactly wants to be number one, in whatever context. He would do anything to sustain it. But the ageing process … its never hospitality, replied Barbara Outland Baker, a former lover. I envisage deep inside him there is some annoyance: What am I supposed to do with this outing? I only want to be number 1. If not number one, what am I supposed to do now?
Schwarzenegger continues famous, popular and busy manically busy. Early mornings you can recognise him in Santa Monica, belting up Ocean Avenue on his bicycle, winging through red lights for his cardio. He still pumps iron, numbers, movements and champions political nominees and causes.
He is like a Terminator machine in terms of ceaseless leading, disappearing, going, straining, striving, strive, remarked Bonnie Reiss, world administrator of an institute that permits his appoint at the University of Southern California.
Striving, but no longer subjugating. Schwarzeneggers recent cinemas have fizzled at the box office. He stumped in vain for John Kasich in last years Republican primaries. Chatter of him flowing for Senate or mounting some type of political comeback has faded. The former act hero who flowed California is greater number one.
He has invested his remaining political uppercase in the deserving if arcane issue of redistricing reconstruct – curtailing the gerrymandering which bedevils local and country elections and gasolines partisanship. He is ginning up fund and courtesy for a case which will reach the Supreme Court in October.
Hes a gadfly. He doesnt truly have much of a constituency in the Republican party, suggested Jack Pitney, a politic prof at Claremont McKenna College. California Republican dont talk about him any more. Hes virtually a non-person.
Schwarzenegger used to be political royalty. He wedded Maria Shriver, John F Kennedys niece, and as an outsized GOP outsider touched off sexual abuse charges dubbed gropegate and prevailed Californias governorship in 2003.
It was a rocky tenure. He taunted Democratic resists as girlie soldiers, clashed with unions and other potent interest groups and watched the recession ignite a fiscal crisis. He deflected meltdown and acquired re-election by rebooting his government, moving to the political centre and grinding out judicial incomes. Upon leaving role in 2011 he adulterated his gift by commuting the prison convict of the son of a political ally. His divorce from Shriver amid discoveries of an thing and secret son with their housekeeper further dented his reputation.
For all his political accomplishments he mobilised California in the fight against climate change the loss of administration clout must hurt, replied Outland Baker. He really likes popularity and strength and the movie industry cant support the same level of real fulfillment, she enunciated. Their rapport ended in 1974 but they remained in suggestion and he held an interrogation for her 2006 memoir, Arnold and Me: In the Shadow of the Austrian Oak .
Schwarzenegger, who became a American citizen in 1983, dreamed of the White House. But an effort to amend the constitution, the so-called Arnold amendment, failed to lift the ban on foreign-born nominees. A vast blow, articulated Outland Baker: You want to be the best, the crown, if youre Arnold. If he had been able to guide, he would try.
The ascent of another celebrity-turned-GOP politician to the Oval Office, however, has made an unpredictable persona, one with a global spotlight and rapt audience: needler of Donald Trump.
The two used to be on good terms but Trumps rise triggered a clash. It appears in bullet and counter-slug every few weeks. The chairwoman labelled Schwarzenegger a total disaster and pathetic as multitude of Celebrity Apprentice, which he used to host himself. He told their own nationals prayer breakfast muster: I want to precisely pray for Arnold … for those ratings.
Schwarzenegger has swung backwith gusto. Hey Donald, I have a great impression, he said in a video posted on social media. Why dont we swap tasks? You take over TV because youre such technical experts on ratings and I take over your work and then people can finally sleep comfortably again.
