I was getting references for a friend of Micah's lightsabers for some artwork and I realized the crops of the sabers themselves are uh... environmental storytelling of sorts. 🥲

The Prime Override - Chapter 56 is up!
Jango - Riflor, Part IV | Return
Aaaand it's late again, and it's been a few weeks, but Riflor's finally a wrap, and this is the last major event in the early war arc!
This chapter: Obi-Wan continues staring at Seventeen's ass. Seventeen gets a lightsaber. And some long-awaited reunions.
“Yo, Rigo! Bounty is for dead alive,” one of the grunt scum shouts at the lead hunter, Rigo apparently. “More creds if alive. Safer if dead. Which way we go?” Just a bit farther. Seventeen walks past one corpse as he spots another with a nicer blasters. “Safer,” Rigo says, and Seventeen leaps the rest of the way. “Move, General!” Seventeen snarls as he mows down the first line of hunters. Dual wielding is more Fordo’s speciality, but he manages. “I started to wonder if you were abandoning me after all this, Captain,” Kenobi says as he catches up, but he sounds more amused than anything. Like he was worried, he was more interested in staring at your ass, the Prime mutters. What? Nothing.
> > Read Ch 56 on AO3
Also, this is more for my endnotes the previous chapter, but:
I am dead serious about Seventeen's vest busting open, or at least that's how I'm choosing to interpret it.
From Republic 60: Hate and Fear, the escape from Rattatak comic: vest closed.
Tumblr media
From Republic 62: No Man's Land, on Riflor: Seventeen's still wearing the same vest, but it's now open.
Tumblr media
(images are photos from my own physical copies of the comics)
Seventeen is a man used to being encased in armor + a body suit, I'm not sure he'd just unzip it because it's hot. Therefore, I conclude that he must have busted it open, and it no longer can close.
(I mean, just look at him. Seems plausible to me)
(Also, do you see where the Alphas are Giant headcanon comes from? Again, look at him next to Obi-Wan, just look at him...)

Others have given a lot of great recommendations for prequel era Legends books (including my favorites of Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, Shatterpoint, and the RotS novelization), so I wanted to give a shout out to the comics!
It may be hard to find some of these, and I recommend using your interlibrary loan program if your library doesn't have them, or bookfinder.com* to hunt them down if that doesn't work. I also highly recommend the Star Wars Book Smugglers group on Facebook. It is well moderated and I've gotten a lot of good deals there without having ever been scammed / having issues.
Overall, what Dark Horse Comics did for the prequels is undeniably amazing. It was the fleshing out that the prequel trilogy needed before TCW came about (and definitely influenced TCW). Aayla Secura was plucked from the pages of these comics, and there was a lot of fantastic Jedi worldbuilding and development of the leaser characters we see in the movies. I also really love how much the Jedi characters deeply care about each other in these comics, it does not fall into the fanon trap of no attachment = no love that can be found in certain other works (of both Legends and the Disney era).
Tumblr media
The comics were printed "Omnibus" as well as the standard single issues and TPBs. They're now being reprinted as Marvel's Epic Collections.
I mentioned Aayla before, and one of my favorite things to come out of the Dark Horse Comics is the Tholme>Quinlan>Aayla lineage, which is mostly collected into the Quinlan Vos: Jedi in Darkness omnibus. In my opinion, Quinlan in Legends is so much more interesting (and capable) than he is in the Disney era. The dynamics between the three of them (and between Quinlan and Obi-Wan) are just so fantastic.
Tholme and Quinlan are a great Master & Padawan duo, and a great example of no, Jedi don't steal children if their parents don't want to give them up, and sometimes the galaxy is a very unsafe place for Force Sensitive children. Quinlan's parents did not want to give him up, but he was struggling with his psychometric abilities, so Tholme trained him on his homeworld until Quinlan's parents were murdered by his Aunt while Tholme was offworld. His Aunt then had Quinlan touch something his mother was wearing when she was brutally murdered, leading to him experiencing her death first person POV, and screaming for days until Tholme is able to return and help him. Tholme then asks another family member to please allow Quinlan to enter the Jedi Order and leave for Coruscant because by then he needed help beyond what Tholme alone could provide, and he was allowed to take him.
Acquiring Aayla is similarly equal parts adorable (toddler Aayla and teenage Quinlan narrowly escape becoming a Wampa's lunch and are very cute while doing it, this is where the infamous panel of Quinlan holding her by the ankle comes from) and horrifying (she was in the process of being sold into slavery by her uncle). Their lineage goes through a lot, and the stories are almost all really fantastic.
Tumblr media
In particular I recommend these arcs of the Dark Horse Republic/Star Wars (1998)** series:
Twilight (#19-22) - Quinlan Vos wakes up in a burning building without his memories and has to fight to survive with the help of a scoundrel Devaronian. His psychometry allows him to gather some pieces of his life back together, and find Aayla, who has also lost her memories. (Bookfinder TPB link for US shipping, ~$10+)
Darkness (#32-35) - Without the benefit of psychometry to restore at least pieces of her memory, Aayla has gone rogue and is out to kill Quinlan for revenge. Meanwhile, trouble on his homeworld draws Quinlan back together with his Jedi master, Tholme, as they investigate a crisis of brain vampires. (Bookfinder TPB link for US shipping, ~$13+)
Stark Hyperspace War (#36-39) - During a crisis of an artificial shortage of Bacta, Obi-Wan and Quinlan meet for the first time as teenagers and there is a lot of chaos! Plus we get a look at Plo's master, a Wookiee named Tyvokka! (Bookfinder TPB link for US shipping, ~$12+)
Rite of Passage (#42-45) - This arc includes the flashbacks to rescuing Aayla as a toddler while the 'current' plot involves Aayla and Quinlan returning to Ryloth to investigate Tholme's disappearance. (Bookfinder TPB link for US shipping, ~$10+)
The above arcs (and more!) are all included in the Quinlan Vos: Jedi in Darkness Omnibus (~$77+ on Book finder for US shipping). Alternatively it is available digitally on Kindle or Nook for $15.
In Marvel's Epic Collections it is split into The Menace Revealed Vol. 2 (#19-35)
(There are copies available of Vol. 2 for $40 on sites I havent used before, so proceed with caution. Everywhere else they're around $120. Amazon has a Kindle edition for $15.)
and The Menace Revealed Vol. 3 (#36-45) (Bookfinder link for US shipping, ~$20+)
** Star Wars (1998) and Republic are the same series. The series was renamed in 2002.
Tumblr media
Other worthwhile Dark Horse prequel comics are:
Jedi Council: Acts of War - dear Dark Horse, what does "life friend" mean, please tell me more. This is a pre-Episode I comic detailing a mission involving most of the Jedi High Council + Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, and I'm obsessed with the dynamic between Plo Koon and Micah Giiett. It is also really fun to see the council working together on a mission.
Tumblr media
Micah is the guy in the center dual wielding yellow sabers
The Clone Wars comics run together in my head a bit so I don't have specific arcs to recommend, but overall the entire run is great. Lots of fantastic Jedi worldbuilding and interactions between characters. There is a great mix of time spent with the major characters (like Obi-Wan, Anakin and Mace) to the characters we see in the movies but we don't see much of (like Luminara and Kit), OCs developed just for these comics (like the hilariously Hot Topic looking Glaive and Zule), and of course plenty of Quinlan, Aayla and Tholme. The clones are very different in this as it was developed before TCW, but the main ones like Alpha 17 are fantastic and full of snark.
Tumblr media
Aforementioned Hot Topic Master & Padawan, Glaive and Zule
Tumblr media
Alpha 17 being a snark master
And finally, the Dark Times comics, which tell the story of several Jedi (knights, masters, padawans and younglings) trying to survive and make sense of their place in the galaxy after the fall of the Republic. There are several parallel stories of Jedi survival happening that eventually all tie together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the storylines is of a youngling clan that was at a Temple off of Coruscant when Order 66 happened. A handful of them escaped along with a Jedi Knight and Jedi Master.
There are a lot of other good ones too, (the Jedi oneshots series, individual "Tales" oneshots, Emissaries to Malastare, etc.) but this is already too long of a post. Anyone please feel free to inbox me for more or specific recommendations!
* I cannot overstate how much I love bookfinder.com for finding older books and comics and finding books that were not published in your country. You can search by ISBN, or title/author, as well as refining your results by what country you're shipping to, hardcover/paperback, first edition, etc. It searches the big online used book retailers as well as some small businesses and spits out the results ordered by price including shipping! It is a fantastic resource for getting your hands on hard to find books at the best prices.
I would love your Legends recs!!! I've tried getting into Legends before but the books I'd randomly pick up would just seem off somehow & I couldn't really get into them (which might be my fault for buying whatever star wars thing I saw because it had clones on the cover)
But that was before I knew the difference between Canon and Legends and what not so I think I might be less confused by all the continuity stuff now (hopefully) & I would love to give them another go. I've been recommended the Kenobi book before, have you read it? Which ones are your favorites?
Hi! I'm not as well-versed in the Legends books, as I've prioritized the Disney continuity ones, because I only have so much time to also get through all the documentaries and reference books and watching the shows and reading the comics and reading fic and having fun in fandom, etc. And with decreasing amounts of free time, it just hasn't been a priority! That said, generally I like Karen Miller's books, which do fall into the attachment = love thing sometimes, but other than that her id aligns with my id like 90% of the way, because her Obi-Wan & Anakin (&Ahsoka) writing is fantastically fun. The Kenobi book is solidly fun from what I remember of it (I think I got halfway through and thought it was fine!), anything by Matthew Stover is worth picking up (the ROTS novelization and Shatterpoint as a Mace novel), and James Luceno's books are generally a solid start. (Dark Lord is probably the one to start with or else Labyrinth of Evil.) The other film novelizations are a mixed bag (and often leave that feeling of something being kind of "off"), the Jedi Apprentice/Jedi Quest books are worth reading just to understand where a lot of plot elements came from, but they're very much aimed at a young audience, so the drama and artistic license is dialed up to eleven (because kids want to read about other kids having exciting adventures, not adults taking care of things before they happen XD), etc. AVOID Karen Traviss' books, like set aside the anti-Jedi stuff (which is still pretty awful), I've seen soooo many people tear those books apart for just how badly written they are because she can't get out of her own bias. If anyone else has some prequels-era Legends books to recommend, please feel free!

HELLO HI YES I AM CURRENTLY GOING INSANE OVER THE NYCC SW BOOKS PANEL BECAUSE LOOK AT PRETTY JEDI ARMOR
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE IMPLICATIONS THAT THE JEDI TEMPLE GUARD ARMOR ARE SOME OF THE LAST LIVING STYLISTIC REMNANTS OF THE HIGH REPUBLIC. THE (fully my assumptions ahead) POSSIBILITY THAT THE ARMOR IS PASSED DOWN FROM THE ERA OF FIGHTING AGAINST THE SITH. I WILL BE CHEWING ON THE WALLS UNTIL WE GET CONTEXT AND BACKSTORY FOR THIS.

Finished the 83 issues of Star Wars/Republic👍 Not a lot to say but they do manage to make Order 66 so fucking devastating every single time
Tumblr media
It's just- really fucking sad and god I hate it but it's so well written and the betrayal of it all gets me every single time
Tumblr media
Anyway, obsessed with how Quinlan looks in this panel specifically. The art on the final issues is soooo nice and clean and aesthetically pleasing they just look really good
Tumblr media
I love the little "?" then she gets fucking shot. something so emotionless about the way the scouts look here as they shoot her. What the fuck. I'm gonna cry
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So that's how they explained him blowing tf up. Oh. Ok. Absolutely nothing to cry about here. Not even him thinking about Aayla first. And Tholme and T'ra Saa (and Khaleen) and Obi-Wan and oh god he needs a fucking hug
Tumblr media
The flashbacks parts were specifically targeted at me they,,,, "As I will keep you in mine" BECAUSE SHE'S DEAD. I'm gonna get violent about them
Tumblr media
And like Tholme is not my fav but I always like seeing young Quinlan and their father-son relationship is so,,, too And him apologising to Tholme here? ruined lives
Tumblr media
Skipping a bunch bc it's interesting but I have nothing to say about it right to the end and I think I'm gonna have to kill this baby. Korto Vos sleep with one eye open. No particular reason but he pisses me off. Why did he as a baby not stop Order 66 from happening. What is wrong with him. Not to wish death on a baby but he needs to be afraid.

Ah yes, my favourite genre of Anidala has always and will forever remain the two of them flirting with one another in front of literally everyone.
Tumblr media
Whether it be Yoda and OWK.
Tumblr media
Or Padmé’s handmaiden.
Tumblr media
Even in broad daylight. (Specifically in front of Rex and Ahsoka.)
Tumblr media
Dire situations where they’re being held captive alongside other prisoners…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For God’s sake, at least show some restraint in front of Sith Lord Palpatine, Mace, and the Queen of Naboo, you guys 😭 c’mon!
Bonus:
Tumblr media
OW not being above noticing how well Padmé knows her way around ANAKIN’S Twilight…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ain’t even need to say anything for this one 😂
I’ll just end it by saying “poor 3PO and Jar Jar.”
